Venezuelan diaspora in Mexico divided over US action, police intervene to separate groups

Dozens of Venezuelan and Mexican demonstrators gathered outside the US and Venezuelan embassies in Mexico City on Saturday with opposing groups clashing verbally over the political situation in Venezuela following recent US military action. Pro-Maduro supporters waved Venezuelan flags and chanted slogans rejecting what they called US interventionism, with California resident Margarett stating that Trump was trying to distract from domestic problems by killing innocent people. Anti-Maduro demonstrators celebrated what they described as the end of Venezuela's narco government, with Gloria Sosa, a Venezuelan living in Mexico for 18 years, expressing happiness and peace over the developments. Police intervened to maintain order as tensions escalated between the groups, while some protesters painted slogans on the walls of the US embassy. US President Donald Trump announced during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago that the United States would run Venezuela until a proper transition could occur and would be reimbursed from the country's oil reserves.
