03:01First time welcome to Glenn!
03:02Thank you!
03:03And you are friends with Jack Whitehall?
03:05Oh yeah!
03:06Oh yeah!
03:07We got a little bit while I was shooting The Running Man!
03:08Yeah!
03:09The last time we met was at Glastonbury Festival right?
03:11That was yeah!
03:12We bumped into each other at Glastonbury and we'd met like a couple of times before that
03:17and I bumped into Glenn there and I was with my fiance and then two of my fiance's girlfriends
03:22who are both single ladies from Essex who the minute they saw that I was friendly with Glenn
03:27just like locked in for the rest of the weekend that's all they talked about
03:32so like every day I'd wake up and I was like oh so what do you want to see today
03:35they were like Glenn pal
03:37or maybe bands and then they encouraged me to like message you loads
03:41so then I sent all these messages to you going hey Glenn what you're doing today
03:44like what acts are you going to go and see
03:46I'm like booty calling you at like 11 o'clock at night
03:50I did think you were a little thirsty
03:52A little thirsty?
03:53Because you didn't realise that I was with these two girls
03:56and then on the Monday morning I was like oh my god he's going to think that I'm like his baby reindeer
04:00I'm reading through all these messages
04:03one of them that you did not respond to and I'm quite within your rights not to
04:0611 o'clock at night on the Sunday I'd sent him a message saying
04:09Scissor Sisters question mark
04:12I thought that was some like British slang I didn't know what that
04:17Yeah they weren't even playing at the festival to be fair
04:19Good, good, I was like never accept the Scissor Sisters emoji
04:24And here you are the new action hero on the block sat next to one of the greatest action heroes of all time
04:36But of course you're not here kicking ass tonight you're back with wicked
04:40And so last time the wicked presser was insane
04:43So where are you off to this time you're off to Paris after this
04:46Tonight
04:47Oh wow okay
04:48We have our screening in Paris tomorrow
04:50Then we come back here to London
04:52And then we go to Singapore
04:54And then we go to New York
04:55And then the movie comes out
04:57Wow
04:58A little trip around the world
04:59A little trip around the world
05:00I guess I mean because it's been so many years
05:01You're going to miss it when it's gone aren't you?
05:03We are missing it already
05:04Oh
05:05It's been such an amazing family
05:07And also great that you put all that work in and then it was a success
05:11Phew
05:12Can you imagine if wicked
05:14It didn't turn out the way it did
05:16No
05:17Can't do that
05:18Just limping around the world
05:19Here's more of it
05:20Here's more of it
05:22There's two and a half hours more
05:24Thank God
05:25No
05:26Thank God
05:27Thank God
05:28And now it's a warm welcome back to Rosamund Pike
05:30The last time we were here it was a zoomy thing
05:32And you were zooming us from a cabin
05:35Was it in Eastern Europe somewhere?
05:37It was my home, Graham
05:39Wow
05:40My home in God
05:41Shade
05:42A cabin in Eastern Europe
05:44My home in God
05:45It didn't
05:46Do you have any lights?
05:47It looked very dark
05:49Well it was locked down
05:51It was
05:52We were, you know
05:53Honkering down like the rest of the world
05:59Here's the thing though
06:00The last time you were on broadcasting for your beautiful home in Prague
06:05We all at Envik
06:08You went a bit
06:10You kind of found new fame
06:12But in a very niche way
06:13Oh my gosh, yeah
06:14You asked me about my family
06:15My children speaking Chinese
06:17Oh
06:19And you asked me if any
06:20If they'd taught me anything
06:21And I came out with one thing they'd taught me
06:23Which is a Chinese proverb I suppose you'd call it
06:26And apparently that clip went viral around China
06:30And now I am recognised as the girl who tells fart jokes
06:35And speaks proverbs about farting
06:38So when I was doing the play
06:40In the summer
06:41At the National Theatre
06:42People would come
06:43And bring me pillows
06:44And teddy bears
06:45Which when I pressed the button
06:46Would come out with this Chinese phrase
06:48To cause a funky
06:50And I was like
06:51LAUGHTER
06:53Loving it
06:54Loving it
06:55Wow
06:56It hit hard
06:57It hit hard
06:58She really did say
06:59Fung Pea
07:00OK
07:01It was so funny
07:02Michele let out a little fart
07:03It didn't let out a little fart
07:05It just let out a little fart
07:06Right now Jackie
07:08You've also found international fame
07:10From a story on the show
07:12I mean it's very different to Chinese proverbs
07:15Proverbs, but yes, I do sometimes get recognized for my appearances on the Graham Norton show the last time it happened
07:21I was on tour in Australia and I was in an airport
07:24With my family and a guy recognized me was like, oh, yeah, we love you Jack Whitehall
07:29Yeah, that story you're told on Graham Norton about not being able to flush your shit down the dunny
07:39People remember that story and then they just come up to you and say it with like no context
07:43Okay, so Glenn, the challenge is on
07:48Do you remember when we had dinner at that place? What was the with Pete?
07:52What was the name of the place we grabbed dinner? Dorian. Yes, Dorian. We this place
07:57Has has one bathroom. This is the this is the most awkward fan interaction. I've ever had I
08:03I go to the bathroom and you know sometimes like you go to the bathroom and there's like toilet paper already
08:08Like on in the bottom of the toilet. Yeah, right? So I'm just like lift up the seat P
08:13Do the thing and flush and I realized now why there was toilet paper on there. It just flipped
08:20All this stuff oh underneath it and I was like, oh my god, so I'm like trying to do I'm like this is crazy, so
08:28Wash my hands leave and as I open the door. There's about eight girls
08:32Outside the bathroom door and they go oh my god, sorry. We had to meet you
08:39We wanted to say hi, and they're like and I was like are you guys going in here?
08:44Yeah, they go it wasn't me
08:47What are you talking about like you're gonna see a whole situation? I added to it, but not like in that way
09:02All right, let's get started tonight with the new movie from Glen Powell
09:07It's called the running man. It's in cinemas from the 12th of November and before we talk about it
09:11Here's a taste of what's in store
09:14Am I trying to get myself killed so kiss my ass twice?
09:18Right there is why you can win this game
09:22Rules are simple survive 30 days to the entire nation hunting you down
09:28Get your family out of slumside for good
09:37Stop filming me. Have you ever wondered if this game is rigged? Guess we'll find out
09:59Hey, buddy, you're on freebie
10:02Wow
10:04It is a fantastic kind of action thriller
10:10Huge sequences you play ben richards tell us about ben richards ben richards is a
10:17Guy who's who was kind of put on a blacklist for trying to stand up for some of the guys he worked with so he can't
10:24Provide for his family. He can't get any job and his daughter's really really sick
10:27So he signs up for this game show where no one's ever won it called the running man
10:31uh, where the entire world can hunt someone down for 30 days and and it's life or death
10:37So everybody uh, yeah, and if you win you get a billion dollars
10:40Wow, it's a it's a it's a hell of a it's a hell of a show
10:43And this is based on a stephen king short story. Is that right?
10:46Yeah, it was it was um stephen king wrote a book in
10:49In like the early 70s came out in 82. It's set in 2025. That's what I love
10:53I love that he set it this year which is wild because everything that's happening in
10:58In the story. It's like all about like sort of deepfakes and like
11:02Fake news and all the things that are kind of happening around it and like it's a this is all predated reality tv
11:07Wow, that's pretty wild. Yeah, it is the running man and clearly there is a lot of running. Yes
11:12So who better to advise you than king of running at mr. Tom Cruise?
11:16That's correct. Yeah, because he is
11:22And did he advise you? He did I mean, you know, I sort of thought tom was going to give me like
11:28I mean, you've been doing stunts like your entire career
11:30I mean, this was like on my first you know time being out in front of an action movie and
11:33You know, so I was just like all right. What do I need to know about?
11:36You know kind of being in front of a thing
11:38I thought it's gonna be like a 10 minute phone call it turned into two and a half hours like about him being like
11:41This is how you don't die
11:43Wow doing it, you know doing an action
11:45There's a lot of ways. I mean, I don't think I really realized
11:48You know, you're like, okay like the explosions are are real, but I know kind of when they're coming
11:52He's like no those can kill you and like, you know, you jump off a bridge like things snap
11:56You know people are tired, you know
11:57So it was like really tom kind of giving me a lowdown, but he also kind of gave me running lessons
12:02He kind of said uh
12:04You should film yourself running because you don't look as cool as you think you do
12:09And he was really right like yeah
12:11I don't think I don't know if the last time like you've run on camera
12:14But you start paying attention to other people running you're like humans are weird looking things when they're trying to go fast, you know
12:20And so yeah, I tried to you know meet with a sprinting coach and kind of do it right
12:23And uh tom I mean you I guess credit tom with this amazing career opportunity of of top gun. Oh, absolutely. Yeah
12:31Yeah, I mean top gun was a movie that changed my life and there was a time in which I wasn't going to do it
12:36You know, I I originally auditioned for uh miles teller's role the ball of rooster
12:40Yeah, and so then I get a call from joe kaczynski who's the director and he called me
12:45I remember it was uh, it was on july 4th and uh, I was wearing an american flag tank top
12:52I was on my balcony having like a tequila soda
12:58And and joe kaczynski, uh called me said hey, uh, you know, we're not giving you the role
13:03We're gonna it's gonna go to miles and uh, and my buddy thought I was getting top gun
13:07So it's me sad in an american tank top
13:10He was filming me getting this like super sad phone call on an american flag tank top on july 4th
13:15Which is like that's not great. But then tom and I sat down and um, you know, he he kind of gave me the advice
13:21He's like, you know, I I said I just don't think the
13:24The role is was up to up to snuff and I I was a little bitter
13:28I was kind of like the you know
13:29You don't want to get broken up with and then be like hey, can we still be friends?
13:34I was kind of like, you know
13:35I didn't think the role was really there and he said do you know how i've you know kind of done my career and I said how and he said
13:40Well, I don't you know choose, you know the roles I choose the movies, you know
13:44He goes I choose good movies and then I make the roles great
13:47And so he kind of convinced me right then and there and it was like the best decision I've ever made
13:52That is really good advice because rosman bike you worked with uh great tom cruise and jack reacher
13:57You reached out to him for advice, didn't you tom is amazing you remind me of him actually oh, okay great
14:01You know in a kind of there's a there's a there's a lovely warm quality about you all right rosman
14:06He has
14:10Television
14:13I'm gonna get the scissor sisters
14:18Maybe I I think I might write better text
14:21Um you've had more than enough to drink
14:24Um but but tom no he I mean he is a he does sort of strike one as a mentor because he's been in the business for so long
14:30And he started so young and he's been a lead for his whole career really
14:34I mean, I love his advice about you know not choosing the roles choosing the movies
14:38But he has had the best roles in all the movies
14:41It's great advice, but also you know um
14:47But the night before I started filming gone girl
14:49I was so frightened because I'd never had that sort of pressure of a of a character in that kind of book with that level of director
14:57And those eyes on me and having to be american and all the rest of it
15:00And I I couldn't sleep and at four in the morning. I thought who who can I write to to get something and I wrote to tom
15:07Saying i'm not up to this and i'm terrified and i'm and he wrote me back the kindest
15:13Letter that immediately because he obviously knew the call time was coming in about three hours
15:19Yeah, and he sort of said you know you've you've got this and you are ready and and and other things but
15:25It was a very
15:27It was a very significant gesture
15:29Yeah, yeah, um of someone with that level of
15:32Fame and people writing to him and probably how busy he is. I mean the guy sleeps one hour a night or something
15:38I mean, you know that could have been his hour of sleep
15:40He was very tired the next day
15:46Tell me this because topcon you you know you were in it you saw it you knew that you were good in it
15:51This is going to change your life and then it got delayed and I don't remember this because of covid it kept getting delayed
15:57You must have been going out of your mind. Well, it's also like you're going out of your mind. You're also running out of money
16:05You're also like oh man, I'm sort of waiting for this movie to come out for for my career to start
16:09I'm a very poor movie. I'm a very poor movie. It's like it's not great, you know
16:13and so
16:15You know and every time it got delayed I
16:19Would get a call from tom
16:21To like let me know it was getting delayed which was really sweet of him
16:23But it was also like you start like dodging tom's calls like a loan shark
16:29You're like tom's calling me again. I know what this means. Yeah, please don't call me again, but then it's funny
16:34I'm actually hosting snl next week. Oh cool
16:39and uh
16:41I'm really excited about and uh
16:43But I was supposed to host snl
16:46That fault like I so they had to literally uh warren michaels had to take back the offer
16:51For me to host snl. So I was supposed to host snl like four years ago
16:55Wow when I finally get to host next week after so every time top gun got delayed
16:59Lauren called me up and I'm like is everybody taking everything in my life?
17:05I'm a movie star
17:07Let me be a movie star
17:09Well listen you can see uh glenn in the running band from next wednesday
17:13Very good
17:21Uh meanwhile in another part of the forest michelle yo brings us the epic conclusion to the wicked saga
17:28Wicked for good. It's out on the 21st of november
17:32So this is essentially like the second act. Yes, right?
17:35So if people missed the first act or it doesn't matter. Yeah, uh, you know, the yellow break road
17:41Yeah, so uh, you should watch the first of course of course
17:45Uh, so where do we find uh madame marble now? What's going on as we join act two?
17:50So act two is much more emotional because as in act one you've met all the different characters and they've made choices
17:58And with choices there are consequences
18:01The yellow break road is being built and then
18:05Alphaba has been ostracized
18:07She's now living by herself in the in the forest
18:10And she's got the book of spells which is something that madame marble wants back most desperately
18:17So she's made alphaba the wicked witch when in all honesty madame maribel
18:24M. M flip it around
18:26Wicked witch
18:30She's a real manipulator
18:33Yeah, wizard of ours
18:37I'm still trying to work it out
18:40Yeah
18:42World wide web
18:48It's it's stunning. I mean john chu as usual with alice brooks, um, is such a cinematic experience like one
18:58But this one leads you down paths
19:01You meet who's the tin man who is the scarecrow who is the the cowardly lion. Yeah, um and most important
19:09What happens to alphaba and glinda?
19:14And part of madame marble's uh job is kind of promoting glinda as the good witch
19:18We've got a clip and this is you helping glinda on her way
19:23The public is on edge
19:25So it's more important than ever that you lived everyone's spirits
19:30As only you can
19:34Accordingly oh
19:37Oh madam, I love it. What is it?
19:41Your new mode of transport your very own vehicular spherical globule
19:47So like a bubble
19:53Sure
19:55You've never been in a musical before never this was my first time I when john chu bless him because we work together in crazy rich agents
20:12Yeah
20:12And so he wrote to me and he said michelle. Can you read the script?
20:16I would love you to play madame marble and I was like madame who and
20:21Wicked I knew I heard of wicked, but I hadn't gone to see it in west end or in new york. There's a gasp of horror
20:27I know
20:29Could you?
20:30So anyway, I read and I go I called him back and go like uh, excuse me. It's a musical. She sings
20:37You know, I don't sing right
20:40You'll be fine and
20:42Typical of john he can convince you to do the impossible
20:46And so he convinced me and i'm so glad he did because the first time when I walked onto the stage and it was a forest scene
20:53And I suddenly you know, it's like you walk in it's silence like this and suddenly you hear a voice
21:02And it was just cynthia warming up. She wasn't even singing a song yet
21:07Her voice is just so incredible. Yeah, so when I had my singing and thanks to her i'm in billboard 100
21:15In that song because of her
21:19That was amazing
21:23They sing life both her cynthia and ariana even when she's in the harness doing all those somersaults she's singing life
21:32It's amazing these two girls are just like little angels
21:36And when it came to my turn to sing with her typical, you know, we have the tick tick tick and then it's your turn to sing i'm like
21:43I
21:46I literally was just doing like miming the words and cynthia just took my hand she goes like i know you can do this
21:53I've heard you before and having that kind of you know when someone takes you out and giving you that confidence
22:01Was one of the most beautiful things I had and so I sang with her and we were on billboard 100
22:06I did
22:11This is rare uh very rare. We have not one but two uh bond girls on our sofa
22:17Oh
22:23Was in die another day and then michelle you were in tomorrow never dies both your bonds were pierce
22:31Is it true you said no to this you didn't want to do it or is that not true that's not true
22:36I thought I was offered to play 007
22:41You know yeah good idea yeah i'll do that yeah because I didn't fit in the traditional
22:47bond girl
22:49I thought
22:49But pierce was keen that you did be fighting yes he's amazing he's uh you know when you are
23:03confident as a man right when you see a woman fighting you go
23:07Good for you you know how to take care of yourself. I don't have to lift you up
23:12all the time
23:14So when we did the action sequences barbara broccoli and michael wilson were fantastic i'm sure you knew them
23:19and she they i brought my own team from hong kong i would love for you to do stuns in hong kong
23:27if you love to do your own stuns i would love to do that yeah that's the place i will not be a bond
23:31girl no
23:33okay i'll we'll do the bond girl thing okay and we did this whole action sequence in the bicycle shop you know
23:40and the because in hong kong
23:43we don't have rehearsal times we walk onto the set fully dressed ready to go and
23:50we are told exactly what we have to do so right there and then they'll say okay these two guys
23:55are coming at you and we shoot it right away that's how oh my god i know super dangerous
24:03super dangerous but i think that's this way we've always made movies in hong kong in the 80s
24:09because that was how it was um and peers would just come onto the set fold his arms watch and go like
24:15yeah i like this so yeah he was really really cool he didn't have any uh feeling that and i and it's
24:22true you're james bond who's going to take that away from you right totally yeah so we had a great time
24:29because rosman am i right that you you didn't know a lot about bond no i mean this story makes me sound
24:34like an idiot i was so young but that's very sweet of you it's not really an excuse
24:42yes i hadn't no yes i hadn't i hadn't seen a bond film when i got cast is that but your parents
24:46were very protective they thought they were we didn't have a television okay weirdo
24:51she grew up in a cabin
24:58it's lovely it's really nice it's not committed at all she lives off grid in prague
25:07but you but then you got invited to audition yeah yeah and they said you know just wear you
25:12know some of your own clothes you know some some business attire and an evening dress and i didn't
25:17have well i didn't have business attire so i had to go to my neighbor and borrow that but i did have
25:22evening dress because my mother was a was a was a singer so she had a great sort of 80s evening
25:28dress made by my grandmother which was beautiful kind of big silk taffeta you know like a peacock
25:34had huge roses on it i thought the roses were a bit much so i took them off anyway i arrived with this
25:39dress in its huge bag you know at the at the audition and the costume designers and barbara broccoli
25:45looked at this dress and they said well that that is that is a very very beautiful dress but
25:50but bond girls don't wear things more like this and they held up what looked like to me like five
25:56pieces of string and um i realized then that i had a whole education yet to happen but you got the
26:05part i did well they thought we've got to teach this poor girl something listen you can see michelle
26:11in wicked for good from the 21st of november yeah meanwhile uh rosamund pike's latest movie offering
26:20is now you see me now you don't it's in cinemas from the 14th of november that's next friday so uh yeah
26:27so this is the the third item in in this series of kind of magicians kind of robin hood magicians who
26:35do these big heists so uh how do you fit into the the world have any has anyone seen the now you see
26:40me movies they're gorgeous they're gorgeous movies which is why i wanted to be part of it it's it's it's
26:46it's a group of magicians who are a motley crew a kind of motley family a dysfunctional family if you
26:51were and um there's they set out to tear down some of the nastiest people on the planet and and
26:59redistribute their wealth people who earned wealth through very you know nefarious methods and i play
27:07one of those people it's my villain era and um i play a diamond uh a diamond heiress who's heiress
27:14to a diamond mine she's south african and she's definitely trading with people she shouldn't it's
27:20her diamonds are covered in blood her money's covered in blood it's it's all the nasty stuff and i love her
27:25relish tell us her name her name is veronica vanderburg or veronica vanderburg in if we're
27:34south african here but as we have a clip this is you as veronica vanderburg uh showing off your
27:41diamond to one of the four horsemen played by jesse is wonderful jesse is now a wise man once told me
27:47in the mirror in fact uh never assume you're the smartest person in the room prove it be my guest
27:54all right well let's see if we can get that case open uh abracadabra huh nope uh alakazam wait open sesame
28:11still safe with me relax relax veronica now as your ads like to remind us diamonds are forever
28:23you are known for doing research for roles so how do you get into this did you did you kind of meet
28:33people who own incredibly uh big diamonds and things well i tried i mean i tried to meet all the people
28:39who deal with you know in the arms trade and who sort of fund small wars and i i mean i really tried
28:45i tried i'm playing a horrible person would you like to me would you like to be my news
28:51can i take you out for lunch and ask you all about the nefarious dealings you do and and of course they
28:56were all everyone i managed to find was were utterly reasonable very kind of ethical and that was just not
29:03what i wanted so i knew that within about five minutes of meeting them and thought now what do
29:07i talk about for the rest of the lunch because you know all i'm interested in is how you do this job
29:12how you do ill in this business which of course you know for all i know they were my character and
29:18they were just hiding it but you know maybe well weirdly someone who does know about the whole
29:23jewellery industry is jack whitehall this is so weird what what didn't you do to you oh no no didn't
29:30you you did the no i did an event recently yes the louvre no it wasn't the louvre
29:40it was so bad i was doing this thing i was booked to do the jewelry awards the grand prix de la
29:46haute jewellery in monaco and it was full of french speakers it was like the sort of oscars of
29:52jewelry they put me as hoes for some reason and uh i was like what the hell am i going to talk about
29:57jewelry awards and then it was the same week as the louvre heist so i was like oh my god thank you
30:02comedy gods like there's my monologue i turn up to this event it was all french speakers i was the only
30:08person speaking english on the stage uh the woman that came out before me was like the anna winter of
30:14jewelry and she gave a speech in french that obviously i did not understand but i was subsequently
30:19told that in the speech she had said quite earnestly that the louvre heist was one of the most tragic
30:25things ever to happen to the french people and that the nation would rally together and get through
30:30this difficult time ladies and gentlemen jack whitehall i walked out in a high-vis vest
30:35with a load of prop jewelry that i bought on sheen
30:40i was like right who wants napoleon's tiara
30:43fucking tumbleweed
30:45i think i said the word heist five times in my monologue which it turns out a jewelry
31:00award saying heist is like shouting bomb at an airport it was horrendous i love that thing that
31:06came out a couple of days ago that their their security password uh is louvre
31:13really probably with an uh with a zero instead of no no no just not even an exclamation mark at the end
31:21yeah got it uh reminder that now you see me now you don't that opens next friday
31:25uh but if psychological thrillers are your thing jack whitehall brings us a new series it's called
31:34malice and it's out on the 14th of november on prime video and uh here is a bit of the trailer
31:42hi you must be jamie yeah adam so nice to meet you oh man he showed up imagine
31:51you're here for the kids yeah i'm pre-leading really but let's see how the other half live
31:55well welcome to our vacation i believe that's our song
32:05sorry i see what you mean about him he cooks he actually plays with the kids
32:16that's something something what i don't know go on then what is the worst thing you've ever done
32:25i was saying to you backstage like this is so impressive it's a really different sort of role
32:32for you so tell us who you play what's going on yeah so i play adam who is this very charming uh manny
32:40tutor that's invited into this wealthy family's home to look after their kids but he's uh got an ulterior
32:47motive and is sort of hell-bent on getting vengeance on david dacovny's character who plays
32:53the sort of patriarch of the family and it is properly it goes to really dark places yeah i mean
32:59it's kind of got a white lotus-y vibe there's a little bit of as rosman was saying backstage wealth
33:03porn there's definitely a bit of that sort of you know glamorous uh you know picturesque uh greek
33:11island yeah and all of that but then yeah it's got a kind of talented mr ripley vibe as well this
33:16cuckoo in the nest thriller but yeah for me it's just a completely different part to anything i've
33:20ever played before because i'm playing a proper villain in it and uh yeah it's uh it was really fun
33:26and now there's quite a lot of sexy time in malice there's a little yes my character is also um
33:32um sexually quite adventurous oh yes and episode two everybody episode two the second episode he
33:42attends uh a sex club and participates in an orgy um of the of the homosexual variety well i think of
33:49this all welcome everyone's welcome yes um your phrase just came into my head there that's definitely
33:56not appropriate for a television show we can cut it out afterwards yeah any holes of gold i uh please do
34:02and please do um anyway oh god my mum and dad are in tonight i uh right so yes he goes to an orgy and
34:11i read that on the page and i was like oh you know my head it's like sort of eyes wide shot it'll be
34:15quite erotic far from erotic we filmed it at eight o'clock in the morning on a tuesday in a strip club in
34:22watford called beavers and i was there with a lot of other people and there was one gentleman in
34:29particular who i had to have quite a lot of intimacy with and he was uh not a bond girl he was a
34:36middle-aged man from hemel hemstead called jeff he was stood there with like a cushion strapped
34:42round his midriff and the actual intimacy with him was quite awkward but the most awkward bit was like
34:49the breaks in filming when there was like a little pause and then we had to yeah yeah during one of
34:55the breaks of this very intense scene he genuinely turned to me and went jack i hope you wouldn't mind
35:00but could i get a selfie i was like uh yeah maybe we could wait till after the orgy it's not orgy etiquette
35:09to have a selfie he was like it's just that my son's a really big fan of yours i thought he
35:14won't be when he sees this
35:18and that starts next friday and jack whitehall everybody
35:25okay it is time to meet our music guest tonight this man has won four grammys and seven brit awards
35:32and is one of the biggest names in pop music please welcome mr ed sheeran here we go
35:46i'm good excellent now do you know glendo no no oh well now you do i know who he is oh
36:05not as close as me and jack but we'll get there were you in the orgy as well i was
36:10i was it's a busy time yeah i'm still left out it'll be season two don't worry michelle yo a big
36:20ed sheeran fan big fan we've met we've met before yeah yeah at the med gala you were so sweet that was
36:26a mad night it was the first time i'd ever been to anything like that and it was like uh you know
36:30you go in on your own and suddenly there's just everyone you've ever seen ever wow is that the
36:35first met gala you've been to yeah i don't know i'm kind of like i feel like i've done it now you
36:41know it was like there was a curiosity yes and um it was fun you could walk up to anyone they did
36:46no one had any entourage so you could just walk up to anyone be like my orgy but he had a beautiful
36:52suit on okay yeah nice it's not just a cushion is that what it was for
37:06have you been back to beavers since
37:09do you know it i think it's amazing there's a strip club called beavers
37:16i love that now we're very excited ed because you are performing for us tonight
37:20i hope so yeah no you are i hope so we all hope so there's a lot of lights over there
37:27something better happen uh what are you performing for us uh playing a song called camera
37:32that is off uh the album play but now play is out in the deluxe yes this is the deluxe one
37:39it's out on the 28th of november and it's sort of like it's almost like a coffee table book it's gorgeous
37:43yeah do you know what there was a few like iterations of uh this record i did a lot of like uh exploring
37:50musically and different different things and then i ended up just moving to india for a bit and
37:55making uh the record there and finishing it with like amazing indian musicians and producers and uh
38:01translators and blah blah blah but there was like a good two months where i made a load of songs with
38:06dave as a producer that they're on on this but they sort of live in their own world but they didn't
38:10necessarily live so they're the iterations of the record are essentially the extended version of this
38:16now this one's called play and we know you know a lot of your album titles were kind of the
38:21mathematical symbols multiplied so play is this so this is a new era yeah so this i kind of see this
38:28as it's called stereo it would be like play pause rewind fast forward stop and i don't want to bring
38:33everyone down but you have already got a plan for a posthumous album what yeah i think that's just sensible
38:39i think i've had i've had friends die without wills and it's fucking chaotic and all i'm saying is
38:45i have a uh i have a plan for when i pass away i know what songs i want at my funeral i know where
38:51i want to be buried i think that's a sensible thing to have and there's so many ed you're very organized
38:57i don't know but i think that uh there's a lot of posthumous albums that have come out of artists
39:01that we know and love that i don't know if they'd have wanted them out in in that sequence or the mixes of
39:07it or blah blah blah so all i'm saying is when i pass away the thing that comes out is the thing that
39:12i wants to come out and has that album got a title eject what the ejector yeah i don't know maybe i'll
39:29just be putting formaldehyde and just sort of taking it and it's very exciting we must mention the uh
39:34documentary film one shot this is going to be on netflix it's directed by uh philip barantini
39:40now he's the man who directed boiling point and adolescence so one shot is the thing so what is
39:46your one shot i think i honestly think that this is the best thing i love it i've done in my life it was
39:54while i was doing it i was kept looking at phil being like you're mad the fact what his mind does like
40:00the fact it it was one camera and we start in a venue and then we go out the venue and bear in
40:05mind it's all live there's no like extras it's just people that we meet on the street and by we did
40:11three takes and by the third take it was like chaotic people knew that we were doing it we
40:14couldn't really like move around but we go from the stage into a taxi we then drive in the taxi to the
40:20high line and then we walk across the high line and then we play a gig all all playing songs as we
40:25walk and then we get on the top of a bus and the bus gets uh there's a traffic jam which we didn't
40:30like uh um take into account and then i get off there and then i go into a hotel we go up to the
40:35top of the hotel they then put the camera on a drone which flies down as i'm performing and then i
40:39run across to an irish bar and then i leave the irish bar and get in a car and then i drive uh from
40:44the car to the subway then i get on the subway uh travel then play another song walking to the venue
40:50and then play a gig it is it's mad like really really mad i love it we've got a clip this is i
40:56just love this this is very near the end yeah so this is you're in a shop you're buying a hat
41:00and then you're walking out towards the venue to start your gig and so this guy didn't know you were
41:06coming into the store well this is the second time we shot it oh i see so he knows he was aware this time
41:11okay but we did we did one that was like a rehearsal that went terribly wrong and then you're singing the
41:16whole time yeah these guys were on the subway with us beforehand and they would just like they followed
41:21you yeah and so this is the you can see the theater you're just approaching the theater now
41:26and then at some point someone says hurry up
41:31hurry up
41:34am i on time am i good on time yeah cheers mate and this is the theater you left an hour before
41:42and then they filled it with 2000 fans within within the hour how are you feeling yeah great great great
41:55i love this here we go
42:13i know it's great it's so good
42:19i genuinely think that's the best thing i've ever been involved in in my career
42:23listen seeing you walking to that theater has got us all in the mood yeah we're hearing you sing
42:28right so if you'd like to head over to that stage
42:34there goes mr ed sheeran he's approaching the stage he has arrived
42:39uh here performing camera it is ed sheeran
42:52you should see the way the stars illuminate your stunning silhouette you're glowing in the dark
43:03i had to count to ten and take a breath you think that you don't have
43:10beauty in abundance but you do and that's the truth
43:17you're frozen in motion
43:23you're frozen in motion a perfect picture in a frame some visions don't never fade
43:29i don't need a camera to capture this moment
43:40i remember how you look tonight
43:42for all my life when everything is black and white your colors exploding
43:51there's something in the way you shine
43:54i don't need a camera when you're in my eyes
44:04you should see the way this night
44:07is unfolding beautifully for us it's getting late but i don't mind
44:12we'll take this in until the sun comes up and i think that what we have
44:20it's like every dream i had came true lying here with you
44:30a photo could not show the way my heart is beating
44:36baby some visions don't never fade
44:41i don't need a camera to capture this moment
44:47i remember how you look tonight
44:52for all my life when everything is black and white your colors exploding
45:01there's something in the way you shine
45:06i don't need a camera when you're in my eyes
45:10and then i flash it's gone
45:13but i'll keep holding on to every little detail in the fabric of the night
45:19never letting go of it inside
45:25i don't need a camera
45:34i don't need a camera to capture this moment
45:38i remember how you're in my eyes
45:44i remember how you look tonight
45:44for all my life
45:47everything is black and white your colors exploding
45:51there's something in the way you shine
45:56i don't need a camera
46:03i don't need a camera to capture this moment
46:07i don't need a camera to capture this moment
46:09but you're in my eyes
46:11Ed Sheeran and the flames collective youth choier
46:15Come on back, Ed!
46:19Such a lovely job. Thank you so much.
46:22The Flames Waker Youth Choir. How broad is your name?
46:25Thank you so much tonight. I feel really good.
46:28Sit, sit for your land, sit for your land.
46:31That choir, so lovely. Flames Waker Youth Choir.
46:33So good, yeah, so good.
46:34Well, thank you very much, guys. Thank you so much.
46:39And, talking of young performers,
46:43Ed Sheeran, you've had, this sounds unlikely,
46:45you've had a busy week in Parliament.
46:47Yeah. Yeah.
46:49Tell us what happened.
46:51I wrote Keir Starmer a letter,
46:53because I feel like the arts in general,
46:56but in schools, have really been like,
46:59underfunded and cut over the last,
47:01well, ever since I was a kid.
47:04And I feel like, I went to a state school in Suffolk
47:08and my music teacher was fantastic
47:10and I feel like he is one of the reasons
47:13why I am where I am.
47:15And we were just sort of rapidly losing that.
47:18And I feel like, as a country,
47:20like, yes, we have a lot that we offer as a country,
47:22but the thing that we're most proud of,
47:24like, that we're really proud of,
47:25everywhere we go around the world,
47:27is our art, it's our painters,
47:30it's our filmmakers, it's our actors,
47:32it's our musicians, it's our poets and comedians.
47:36LAUGHTER
47:38No, but seriously, but the arts.
47:40And it's the thing, you know...
47:42I wasn't even mentioning television.
47:44LAUGHTER
47:46If, you know, and also not just that,
47:49like, financially it brings 7.6 billion music alone
47:52into the UK economy,
47:54and so to, like, defund all of that
47:57and then wonder where the next generation of, like, art
48:00is going to come from.
48:01And, you know, so I wrote a letter to Keir,
48:04and I said, for one thing,
48:06there's a thing called EBAC that was put on music
48:08that, basically, it made it the DOS subject,
48:11that if people took it wouldn't count as much
48:13for universities and blah, blah, blah.
48:14So I asked for that to be removed.
48:16I asked for funding to be put into
48:17underprivileged schools for music.
48:20I asked for the curriculum to be changed
48:22so it wasn't so classically focused.
48:24It could be, like, pop music or it could be rock music
48:27or it could be things that make kids want to go,
48:29do you know what, I want to learn a Taylor Swift song,
48:31not I have to learn Bach and be able to read,
48:33cos that's not the way that I learnt music.
48:35So I asked for curriculum change
48:37and I asked for instruments to be bought for schools.
48:41And I sent this letter maybe, like, eight months ago
48:44and I just thought he'd just read it and gone,
48:46do you know what, like, I'm in enough shit at the moment.
48:49LAUGHTER
48:51But I got a letter back from him maybe two months ago
48:54just basically saying, thank you for your letter,
48:56I'll have a think about it.
48:57And that was kind of it.
48:58And then about two, three days ago,
49:00they said, oh, they're going to bring it up in Parliament.
49:03And he approved it.
49:04And it's, yeah, it's gone, it's gone, yeah, it's gone through.
49:07CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
49:09That's amazing.
49:12Yeah, I think it's, like, it's the first step in a lot of things.
49:18I think that Keir Starmer has listened to the first step.
49:21My foot's in the door now and then I can continue badgering him.
49:24Ed, thank you for caring.
49:26And I'm sure kids up and down the country, thank you for that.
49:28Always a treat to see you.
49:30Thank you for that amazing performance.
49:31Ed Sheeran, everybody!
49:33CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
49:36That's it for tonight.

49:39so please say thank you to the rest of my guests.
