00:00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:00:25Hey! Special shooting and phone roll, please.
00:00:28And is anybody injured?
00:00:31No, but a bullet almost shot my mom.
00:00:33It went through our window, and also in my room,
00:00:36where my one-year-old baby is with me.
00:00:38They're just gonna be up to the shooting people in our neighborhood.
00:00:42Alright, do you see or hear anything else?
00:00:45No, just a bullet.
00:00:47Okay. Alright, my partner's getting help on the way.
00:00:50Okay, thank you.
00:00:52Let's sit outside.
00:01:01Okay.
00:01:02Okay.
00:01:03Okay.
00:01:04It's gonna be a robbery.
00:01:07They just fled, so they're probably nearby.
00:01:10Approximately five black males.
00:01:12They fled towards Bassett.
00:01:14All right, buddy. Let's see what we can do.
00:01:16Oh, buddy.
00:01:17It's your time to shine there, Turbo.
00:01:18Come on.
00:01:20There's money.
00:01:21They jumped in.
00:01:22I bet money.
00:01:23Yep, look.
00:01:24Yeah, look.
00:01:25Alright, let's see what we can do.
00:01:26Alright, buddy. Let's see what we can do.
00:01:28Oh, buddy.
00:01:30Get your time to shine there, Turbo.
00:01:33Come on.
00:01:36I bet money.
00:01:37They jumped in.
00:01:38Yeah.
00:01:39I bet money.
00:01:41Yep, look.
00:01:46They jump this I bet money yeah look yeah that's right
00:01:55Hey strata there is brand new broken wood off this fence behind the apartment
00:02:05They said looking a freshly broken fence
00:02:16Okay
00:02:19So it was four to five black males wearing all black as they were running they shot about five six rounds
00:02:26Towards the victims no one got hit though, right?
00:02:30Did the both go into any residence?
00:02:32four shots went through my house
00:02:34Jumping
00:02:37Oh, I see it. Yeah, where else?
00:02:43Where okay
00:02:46I'm gonna go check that apartment to make sure that their apartment was not shot
00:02:55I've seen a bullet hole in lot number 12. I'm trying to make contact with the residents now
00:03:03Or charleston, please
00:03:08There's a pipe back here
00:03:10The bullet hit the wall
00:03:11My friend live in the room, they live in the one room
00:03:15Is he in there?
00:03:16My friend took the shower maybe
00:03:18We just need to make sure he's okay
00:03:20The bullet hit the wall
00:03:20The bullet hit me
00:03:33Can you hear it?
00:03:33Like, all I hear is the shower.
00:03:35All right, Sean.
00:03:36Yeah, but I don't know.
00:03:43You see anything?
00:03:44Yeah, we're right here.
00:03:46You good?
00:03:50You shot?
00:03:51Yeah, right in the machine.
00:03:53Go run and get EMS.
00:03:55203, this bed ship might be 10-7.
00:03:59He's gone.
00:04:03For homicide detectives,
00:04:12their chance of solving a murder
00:04:13is cut in half
00:04:14if they don't get a lead
00:04:16within the first 48 hours.
00:04:33So about approximately an hour ago,
00:04:40we had an armed robbery
00:04:42in which the victims were shot at
00:04:43following the robbery.
00:04:45And then while working that armed robbery,
00:04:48they observe a bullet hole
00:04:49to an unrelated trailer,
00:04:51make contact,
00:04:52and they discover the deceased
00:04:53in the back bedroom.
00:04:54It happened here
00:04:58in front of 12.
00:05:02So here,
00:05:03you can see,
00:05:04is where we have the entry
00:05:05of the bullet.
00:05:07And then on the other side
00:05:08of this wall
00:05:09is our decedent.
00:05:09His name is
00:05:14Herberto Martinez Martinez.
00:05:1937-year-old
00:05:20Herberto Martinez Martinez
00:05:22came to the U.S.
00:05:2320 years ago
00:05:24from Oaxaca, Mexico
00:05:25in search of better job opportunities.
00:05:28He worked construction
00:05:29and was packed to move
00:05:30to a new job site
00:05:31in North Carolina
00:05:32in the morning.
00:05:33He leaves behind
00:05:34a large family,
00:05:36including his brother
00:05:37and brother's family
00:05:38in North Charleston
00:05:39and his parents
00:05:41and three other siblings
00:05:42back home in Mexico.
00:05:46The bullet struck him
00:05:48in his facial area
00:05:49while he was sleeping.
00:05:51The shot killed Herberto
00:05:52instantly.
00:05:54Where you see
00:05:55the crowd of people
00:05:55is the general area
00:05:56in which the armed robbery
00:05:57victims were
00:05:58when the shooting took place.
00:06:00They were at the back corner
00:06:02of their trailer
00:06:03when approximately four
00:06:05what they described
00:06:06as black males
00:06:06approached them
00:06:07demanded their items
00:06:09and as they were fleeing
00:06:10the suspect shot
00:06:12there were several
00:06:13shell casings out here
00:06:14that was collected
00:06:16by patrol.
00:06:17The four casings
00:06:18were covered
00:06:18or all 9mm.
00:06:23Where the armed robbery
00:06:24happened
00:06:25a trailer has
00:06:27video cameras.
00:06:28Bravo is helping
00:06:29download the video.
00:06:31We need to do interviews
00:06:32with the victims.
00:06:34Once the video is downloaded
00:06:35I'm going to have him
00:06:35take my victims
00:06:36to City Hall
00:06:37and Bravo is going
00:06:39to sit down
00:06:40with each one
00:06:40and we're going to have
00:06:41one translation
00:06:42of what happened.
00:06:46Bush and Malone are there
00:06:47and I let them know
00:06:48you're coming with three.
00:06:49Thank you, Bravo.
00:06:50Stray bullets are always rough.
00:07:00Hopefully they got
00:07:00a good description
00:07:01in clothing
00:07:02or there's something
00:07:03distinct on one
00:07:04of the individuals
00:07:05that committed the robbery
00:07:06that we can identify
00:07:07and hopefully with that
00:07:09we'll be able
00:07:09to develop a suspect.
00:07:10So run me through
00:07:22what happened.
00:07:22Well,
00:07:23we're
00:07:23taking a beer.
00:07:29So they were
00:07:30hanging out
00:07:31drinking beer
00:07:32and there were four
00:07:32that came somewhere
00:07:33from behind the trailer.
00:07:35They're asking
00:07:37like where
00:07:37that wears the
00:07:38which means marijuana.
00:07:41Yep.
00:07:46Can you describe
00:07:48like what they were wearing
00:07:50what they look like?
00:07:54He says the man
00:07:54who pointed the gun
00:07:55at him
00:07:56wore a black mask
00:07:57and two others
00:07:58also wore masks.
00:08:00Two black black masks
00:08:01one had what?
00:08:02And then one
00:08:03didn't have one at all.
00:08:05He said the one
00:08:05that came off
00:08:06to him with the gun
00:08:07he was only able
00:08:08to see kind of like
00:08:09eyes and he had
00:08:10the mask
00:08:11with the hoodie on.
00:08:12Oh, hi.
00:08:13So I saw
00:08:14that there was
00:08:15three weapons
00:08:16and I found
00:08:17and when he
00:08:18hit the gun
00:08:19he didn't
00:08:19hit it.
00:08:21He pulled the trigger
00:08:38and did you hear
00:08:39go
00:08:39and then he starts
00:08:43going through your
00:08:43pockets.
00:08:46He says the suspect
00:08:47stole his keys,
00:08:48phone and wallet
00:08:49and then moved on
00:08:51to his friend.
00:08:52So the guy
00:08:52with the black mask
00:08:53after he took
00:08:54his phone and
00:08:54everything,
00:08:55the black mask
00:08:56went to start
00:08:58searching the other
00:08:59victim,
00:08:59victim number two.
00:09:01So, but was it
00:09:01the same one
00:09:02that was kind of
00:09:04doing all the robbing?
00:09:17Were they like
00:09:18trying to aim at you
00:09:19or were they like
00:09:19aiming at the house?
00:09:21Yeah, did you see
00:09:24which direction
00:09:25they ran to
00:09:26after they fired?
00:09:29He says he and
00:09:32his friends ran
00:09:33after the men
00:09:34but lost them
00:09:35behind some
00:09:35apartments.
00:09:37So when they
00:09:38turned left
00:09:39onto Facet
00:09:40that's when
00:09:41you lost sight
00:09:41of them?
00:09:44Okay.
00:09:45All right.
00:09:47Okay.
00:09:47Detectives speak
00:10:00with the two
00:10:00other robbery
00:10:01victims.
00:10:01Can you describe
00:10:02them?
00:10:03Can you describe
00:10:03them?
00:10:04any good descriptions
00:10:19on any of the suspects?
00:10:20No.
00:10:21This is going to be
00:10:25a really tough case.
00:10:27Hopefully we'll get
00:10:28some good video
00:10:29and it'd be great
00:10:29to get a car coming
00:10:30or going in the area.
00:10:37All right, watch this.
00:10:38Detective Anthony Russ
00:10:39pulls up the surveillance
00:10:40video gathered
00:10:41from the trailer park.
00:10:43So you're going to see
00:10:44the suspects
00:10:44walking up
00:10:46Stahl Road
00:10:46on crosses
00:10:47and the four of them
00:10:49now are linked up.
00:10:51So then we cut to
00:10:52this video
00:10:55where they're now
00:10:58walking into
00:11:00the mobile home park.
00:11:08Approach the victims
00:11:09from the rear
00:11:10of the trailers.
00:11:13You don't really
00:11:14get to see a whole lot.
00:11:15It's dark
00:11:16and from a distance.
00:11:18You can see
00:11:19they're robbing them
00:11:20that gun.
00:11:21Mm-hmm.
00:11:25And they run
00:11:27beside this mobile home
00:11:28that actually
00:11:28has the cameras.
00:11:32And this is the good one.
00:11:35They're running
00:11:36and then shooting back.
00:11:54Unfortunately for us
00:11:55the video surveillance
00:11:55is at night
00:11:56and they are wearing masks,
00:11:58three of them.
00:11:59So that makes it challenging.
00:12:06But anything distinctive
00:12:07helps us.
00:12:09You can see
00:12:09a camo jacket
00:12:10and some Nikes
00:12:12and you can form
00:12:15a suspect from that.
00:12:16It ends with
00:12:18this
00:12:20where they're running
00:12:22away in the same direction
00:12:23that they came from.
00:12:25They fled through
00:12:26this area
00:12:27and then back out
00:12:29this way
00:12:29likely to
00:12:31this road
00:12:32here.
00:12:34We have some areas
00:12:35of interest
00:12:35we can look for.
00:12:36Video surveillance
00:12:37might help us
00:12:38ID them a little better.
00:12:39There's some apartments
00:12:40here that look good.
00:12:42So we have some
00:12:43things to do
00:12:45but at least
00:12:46we have a starting point.
00:12:47video is going to be
00:12:50the key in this case
00:12:51I think
00:12:51because we don't have
00:12:52any suspects
00:12:53at this time.
00:12:54We will probably secure
00:12:55for the night
00:12:55here shortly.
00:12:57I'm just like
00:12:57prepping this
00:12:58for the next shift
00:13:00and making sure
00:13:01like the list
00:13:02of cameras is there
00:13:03so when they do
00:13:04their brief
00:13:04they can divvy up
00:13:06and hit the ground
00:13:06running in the morning.
00:13:07This is a completely
00:13:10innocent victim.
00:13:11He was literally
00:13:12sleeping in his bed
00:13:13after a long day's work.
00:13:15I mean it's horrible.
00:13:16And it also sucks
00:13:18because right now
00:13:18we don't have any answers.
00:13:19But our goal
00:13:21is to bring justice
00:13:22to the victim
00:13:23and for his family.
00:13:34Let's wake it up.
00:13:35It's Friday.
00:13:3610 hours in.
00:13:40Alright everybody's here
00:13:41ready?
00:13:41We are so ready.
00:13:43We're ready.
00:13:43The case is assigned
00:13:44to Corporal Rob Van Tine
00:13:46a 20 year veteran
00:13:47with the North Charleston
00:13:48Police Department.
00:13:50Alright so this
00:13:50happened last night
00:13:51I know the patrol
00:13:53responded at 2150 hours
00:13:54and there was
00:13:55three victims
00:13:56that were robbed.
00:13:57They said that
00:13:58four males
00:13:59robbed them
00:14:00and then they
00:14:01fired shots backwards.
00:14:02As they're running off
00:14:03the victim was
00:14:04sleeping in his trailer
00:14:05and got hit by gunfire.
00:14:07They run towards
00:14:08this pond
00:14:09and that's where
00:14:09you lose them
00:14:10from the camera.
00:14:11I imagine if you're
00:14:12going to take a car
00:14:13you've got to go out
00:14:14facet road on up
00:14:15you've got to go
00:14:15left on stall
00:14:16or right on stall.
00:14:17We need to see
00:14:17if there's any video
00:14:18that we can obtain.
00:14:19They actually have
00:14:21good video on the second
00:14:22building
00:14:23in that apartment complex.
00:14:25Also
00:14:25Sergeant Bailey
00:14:26was saying
00:14:27somebody ran
00:14:28they found
00:14:28a broken fence.
00:14:32So it could have been
00:14:33him jumping the fence
00:14:34into the apartment complex.
00:14:36There's a good chance
00:14:37to really just live
00:14:37in the apartment.
00:14:39I agree.
00:14:39I think the main thing
00:14:40right now is just
00:14:41getting as much footage
00:14:42from the surrounding area
00:14:42as possible
00:14:43and see what we got
00:14:44whether it's vehicle
00:14:45leaving or they're
00:14:46staying on foot
00:14:46running.
00:14:48If I can do that
00:14:48apartment complex
00:14:49y'all said they have
00:14:50cameras there?
00:14:50Yeah.
00:14:51Get all the cameras there
00:14:51from the external
00:14:52if we can.
00:14:53We got you Bantai.
00:14:57So I came in this morning
00:14:58and noticed the night shift
00:15:00call out team
00:15:01responded to this
00:15:02where it gets passed on
00:15:03to the next person
00:15:04in the rotation.
00:15:05I like being on scene
00:15:06being the one
00:15:06who responds to it.
00:15:08Unfortunately
00:15:08this one I'm not
00:15:09so I have to review
00:15:10the notes that they did
00:15:11and then go from there.
00:15:12I just wish we had
00:15:13more information
00:15:13to go off of right now.
00:15:14There's nothing to
00:15:15connect the victims
00:15:16to the suspect.
00:15:16We don't have a car
00:15:18we don't have anything
00:15:19yet.
00:15:19So it's really
00:15:20a whodunit.
00:15:21So we'll see
00:15:21if the cameras
00:15:22and the footage
00:15:23we can develop
00:15:24some more leads.
00:15:33Back here in this corner
00:15:34is where they put
00:15:35a pallet over a fence
00:15:36and you can see
00:15:37footprints
00:15:37where they've been
00:15:38climbing over a fence.
00:15:39There's no video.
00:15:49The security cameras
00:15:51at the apartment complex
00:15:52aren't working.
00:15:57But the team
00:15:58will canvas
00:15:59each apartment
00:15:59for doorbell cameras.
00:16:01So
00:16:02gives them a lot
00:16:05of problems.
00:16:06According to someone
00:16:07in the building
00:16:08there have been
00:16:09complaints about
00:16:09two young men
00:16:10on the second floor.
00:16:12One of the males
00:16:13was sitting on this
00:16:14Kia yesterday
00:16:15stolen out of city.
00:16:17The ignitions popped.
00:16:20You think they could
00:16:20be our bad guys?
00:16:22They're all tracked
00:16:22back here.
00:16:24There's a possibility
00:16:25I had a still shot
00:16:29of the suspects
00:16:30from our surveillance
00:16:31camera for the shooting.
00:16:33He picked up two
00:16:34from the four individuals.
00:16:36Detective David Pritchard
00:16:37showed the video image
00:16:39to the tipster.
00:16:40He said that he thinks
00:16:41the two in the middle
00:16:42are the two sons
00:16:43that live at this apartment.
00:16:45They may be our guys.
00:16:47We're going to do
00:16:48a knock and talk
00:16:49reference to that
00:16:49stolen car
00:16:50see if it has anything
00:16:52to do with our homicide.
00:16:55Detectives bring out
00:17:10a woman
00:17:11and her two teenage sons.
00:17:12We're going to pray for you.
00:17:15Calm down.
00:17:17Came up here
00:17:18and knocked on the door.
00:17:20They opened the door
00:17:20and breached the marijuana.
00:17:22So we pulled everybody
00:17:23for investigative detention.
00:17:25Now we're going to get
00:17:26a search warrant
00:17:27type for the residence
00:17:28for anything related
00:17:29to the incident.
00:17:30What did we do?
00:17:31I was a person
00:17:31and I was like
00:17:32what's funny in this
00:17:33Hey, listen to what you see
00:17:36and calm down.
00:17:38I'm their mom.
00:17:39Maybe these kids
00:17:39were involved in the incident.
00:17:41We'll see.
00:17:41I wonder if there's a way
00:17:53we can downplay it
00:17:55and say
00:17:55some items were stolen
00:17:57let's get those items back.
00:17:59Maybe they'd be
00:17:59more forthcoming.
00:18:03How you doing man?
00:18:04Could be better.
00:18:05Vantine starts
00:18:06with the older brother.
00:18:08Is that your apartment
00:18:08over there?
00:18:09A faucet?
00:18:10Yeah, my sister.
00:18:11Your sister's?
00:18:13How long have you been there?
00:18:15We just recently moved there.
00:18:18So they came
00:18:18they smelled marijuana
00:18:19whatever.
00:18:20Is there anything else in there?
00:18:21Is there any
00:18:21because I know
00:18:21they're going to go in there
00:18:22and look.
00:18:23Is there any weapons
00:18:24or anything like that?
00:18:25Like is there like
00:18:25a gun or something
00:18:26where they're behind?
00:18:27Mm-hmm.
00:18:28We might find
00:18:28over the weed.
00:18:30Weed?
00:18:30Any other substances
00:18:31or anything?
00:18:32Mm-hmm.
00:18:32I got you.
00:18:34Okay.
00:18:34No, basically
00:18:35be honest with me.
00:18:36Did you take any items
00:18:37from some people
00:18:38in Trilbar
00:18:38that we could
00:18:39somehow get back to them?
00:18:54No, I think I'm...
00:18:56Did someone else
00:18:58take some items
00:18:59that you were with?
00:19:00No.
00:19:06Because you know
00:19:07what happens
00:19:08is when we go through
00:19:08we pull
00:19:09surveillance video
00:19:10everywhere, right?
00:19:12The trailer park
00:19:12and all that.
00:19:13So there's cameras
00:19:14on facet
00:19:14there's cameras
00:19:15further down
00:19:16so I just don't want
00:19:17you caught in a line
00:19:18with that, okay?
00:19:20So I'm asking you
00:19:22to honestly
00:19:23be honest
00:19:23if you were
00:19:24at that trailer park
00:19:25No.
00:19:27You were at home
00:19:31the whole time?
00:19:32Yeah.
00:19:34And if it shows
00:19:35that you weren't
00:19:35in the house
00:19:36and you actually
00:19:36left
00:19:37what then?
00:19:39Yeah, you could
00:19:39show me later.
00:19:40Okay.
00:19:41Hey, how's y'all, man?
00:19:52Vantine turns
00:19:52to the younger brother.
00:19:55And I'm gonna be honest
00:19:55with you
00:19:56some items were taken
00:19:56from some people
00:19:58on a trailer park
00:20:00further down the road.
00:20:02Did you go over
00:20:03to that trailer park?
00:20:03So you stayed there
00:20:10the entire time?
00:20:11I was home
00:20:11all day yesterday.
00:20:12As a man
00:20:13that's your word?
00:20:14Yeah, I was home
00:20:15all day yesterday.
00:20:16Okay.
00:20:17Be right back.
00:20:25So I can't say
00:20:26100%
00:20:27that they're involved.
00:20:28I just know that
00:20:28right now
00:20:31you have the path
00:20:32leading to
00:20:33their apartment.
00:20:34You have a man
00:20:35that's saying
00:20:35from the still images
00:20:37that two of them
00:20:38look like kids
00:20:38that belong
00:20:39to that apartment.
00:20:40And the fact that
00:20:41I feel
00:20:43just from interviewing
00:20:44that they're lying
00:20:45about last night
00:20:46kind of leads me
00:20:47to believe
00:20:48they're involved
00:20:48but we'll see.
00:20:50Search warrant's
00:20:50gonna be completed.
00:20:52Maybe there's
00:20:52a weapon in there.
00:20:53You never know.
00:20:54Cam is still
00:20:54talking to the mother
00:20:56and they will get
00:20:56more information
00:20:57from her.
00:21:01So I'm gonna
00:21:03be honest with you.
00:21:04So there was an incident
00:21:05that happened
00:21:05across the street
00:21:07at the trailer
00:21:08parts on Stahl.
00:21:10Some Hispanics
00:21:10were robbed
00:21:11and in the process
00:21:12there were
00:21:13some individuals
00:21:14that shot at
00:21:15a trailer
00:21:15and we arrived
00:21:18on CN
00:21:18on a male deceased
00:21:20who was sleeping
00:21:20in this trailer.
00:21:22Those subjects
00:21:23then ran towards
00:21:24the apartments
00:21:25of where y'all
00:21:26are staying
00:21:26and one of your sons
00:21:29were in Nakia
00:21:30just sitting there
00:21:31and there have
00:21:32been a number
00:21:32of Kia's stolen
00:21:34from the area.
00:21:35Do you know
00:21:35any reason why
00:21:37either one of your
00:21:38sons would be
00:21:38inside that Kia?
00:21:39They shouldn't be.
00:21:41Listen,
00:21:42I work from
00:21:43seven in the morning
00:21:44until seven in the night.
00:21:45Just now.
00:21:46I really see
00:21:47my kids sometimes.
00:21:50I work in Brindle
00:21:51that I've got
00:21:51a goal to accomplish.
00:21:52I don't want
00:21:53this for them.
00:21:54I want better.
00:21:56Now I can tell you
00:21:57I'm not gonna lie
00:21:58for my kids
00:21:59but they've been
00:22:00home yesterday.
00:22:01Now if they
00:22:02does broke
00:22:02in that car
00:22:03then they've got
00:22:04to deal with
00:22:05the consequences.
00:22:07There's no reason
00:22:09for them to have
00:22:10to do anything
00:22:11like this
00:22:11because I give
00:22:13them what they want.
00:22:14We're just following
00:22:14our leads
00:22:15and going upon
00:22:16our investigation.
00:22:18Have you ever seen
00:22:19either one of your
00:22:20sons carrying
00:22:20a firearm before?
00:22:21I'm against guns.
00:22:23I don't like guns.
00:22:25You know,
00:22:25that's just,
00:22:26I feel like
00:22:27what you need
00:22:28a gun for.
00:22:29But at no point
00:22:30in time yesterday
00:22:31you recall
00:22:31your sons leaving.
00:22:33No,
00:22:33they didn't leave.
00:22:35All right.
00:22:36Just give me a second,
00:22:36all right?
00:22:37All right.
00:22:40They're saying
00:22:41they're home
00:22:41the entire time.
00:22:42Yeah,
00:22:43that's what she's saying.
00:22:44I feel like
00:22:46she would tell me
00:22:46otherwise.
00:22:48I honestly
00:22:48do believe
00:22:49as much as
00:22:50she was telling
00:22:51them to calm
00:22:52down on scene,
00:22:53like be respectful.
00:22:54I feel like
00:22:55she would tell us
00:22:56if they weren't
00:22:57in the house.
00:22:58Did she ask them
00:22:59anything about the car?
00:23:01The Kia.
00:23:02One of them
00:23:03were in the Kia.
00:23:04I didn't ask him.
00:23:06I'll ask the other one.
00:23:09Hey,
00:23:10quick question too.
00:23:11There's a Kia
00:23:11that's parked out there.
00:23:13Were you inside
00:23:14that vehicle at all?
00:23:15What about your brother?
00:23:17Any of y'all
00:23:17inside that vehicle?
00:23:18Mm-hmm.
00:23:19Do you know
00:23:20who that vehicle
00:23:21belongs to?
00:23:22No.
00:23:23Do you know
00:23:23where it came from?
00:23:24Mm-hmm.
00:23:28All right.
00:23:33They don't know
00:23:34this car.
00:23:36Same answer
00:23:36from the other guy.
00:23:38They don't know
00:23:39anything about the car
00:23:40and they're not in it.
00:23:42Those people
00:23:42put you in it.
00:23:43I think they're
00:23:44lying about that.
00:23:45Whether they're involved
00:23:46in this murder,
00:23:46I do not know.
00:23:47But we'll find out
00:23:49once we get the search warrant
00:23:50and we get more information
00:23:51from pulling the video cameras.
00:23:52At least we've locked
00:23:53them into statements.
00:23:54That's the important thing.
00:23:55We've locked them
00:23:55into statements
00:23:56so we can either
00:23:57validate those statements
00:23:58or we can disprove them
00:23:59at this point.
00:24:00So we'll see what happens.
00:24:06Then
00:24:06Hold on a second.
00:24:07Detective Pritchard
00:24:08calls in from
00:24:09the apartment complex.
00:24:10So we got video
00:24:11from before the shooting
00:24:12that shows those kids
00:24:13leaving this apartment.
00:24:15About what time?
00:24:15The video shows
00:24:20three men
00:24:21leaving the complex
00:24:22ten minutes
00:24:23before the call
00:24:24to 911.
00:24:26Did you check your email
00:24:27or your text?
00:24:28Yeah, I got it coming through.
00:24:34That's their building.
00:24:35Mm-hmm.
00:24:38Oh, f***.
00:24:41It's absolutely f***ing hell.
00:24:42Yeah, let's, uh...
00:24:46100% that's them.
00:25:01The shoes,
00:25:02the camo jacket.
00:25:03Where are they coming
00:25:09from now?
00:25:11You can't see no one's face.
00:25:15Does it have them
00:25:16coming back?
00:25:17Do we have a video
00:25:18of them coming back?
00:25:19I'll have to see more.
00:25:21Put this on the big screen
00:25:22of the computer
00:25:23just to...
00:25:24so we can kind of
00:25:24get a better look at them.
00:25:29Here they are coming down.
00:25:30six to ten minutes
00:25:32before the murder.
00:25:33The doorbell video
00:25:34is from an apartment
00:25:35below the brothers.
00:25:38We don't have them
00:25:39coming out of the
00:25:39actual apartment.
00:25:40We have them
00:25:41coming down the stairs.
00:25:43And the shoes are.
00:25:48Those are the green nightcloth.
00:25:49Uh-huh.
00:25:49Uh-huh.
00:25:49Uh-huh.
00:25:54Let's print out
00:25:54the image of this.
00:25:55I'll go and talk
00:25:58to the mom
00:25:58and then we'll try
00:25:59to get her
00:26:00to identify them.
00:26:02You ready?
00:26:04Hey.
00:26:05How's it going?
00:26:06I'm Detective Banton.
00:26:11Who's who?
00:26:12Detective Cam Miller
00:26:32shows her the surveillance
00:26:33video from the crime scene.
00:26:36Oh, I don't know.
00:26:38Listen to me for a second.
00:26:39And I get it.
00:26:40You're their mom.
00:26:41You're supposed to protect them.
00:26:41And I wouldn't lie
00:26:43for them either
00:26:44because right is right
00:26:45and wrong is wrong.
00:26:46And I'm going to be honest.
00:26:49I don't know who this is.
00:26:51I don't know.
00:26:52I do not know.
00:26:54I'm telling you.
00:26:55These green and white shoes,
00:26:57I never saw before.
00:26:58Okay.
00:26:59She's denying,
00:27:13basically knowing anybody.
00:27:14I would bet money
00:27:15they're involved,
00:27:16but we'll see.
00:27:16you have to get more.
00:27:18You have to get more.
00:27:22Then...
00:27:22Perfect.
00:27:23The team searching
00:27:24the brother's apartment
00:27:25reaches out.
00:27:27So they found
00:27:299mm handguns in there
00:27:30and there are
00:27:309mm blazers.
00:27:31They recovered
00:27:33two stolen guns
00:27:34and ammunition
00:27:35that's the same brand
00:27:36as the casings
00:27:37found at the crime scene.
00:27:39I think we're on
00:27:40the right track here.
00:27:41That's good news.
00:27:42That would tie
00:27:44that apartment
00:27:44definitively.
00:27:46We'll test fire them here
00:27:47and one of those weapons
00:27:49will hopefully match.
00:27:51So I'll confront them on it.
00:27:52Hey, how's it going, man?
00:28:01So, a couple 9mm
00:28:03were found in your house.
00:28:06I've got the cameras.
00:28:08I've got video of you leaving.
00:28:11I want to know,
00:28:13yesterday night,
00:28:14who was with you
00:28:14when you went over
00:28:15to the trailers?
00:28:20Where'd the guns come from
00:28:21that were inside
00:28:22your apartment?
00:28:26Hmm?
00:28:30Your cousins?
00:28:33Was your cousin
00:28:33with you last night?
00:28:38But not last night.
00:28:41So he wasn't involved.
00:28:44So all I've got right now
00:28:45is you and your brother.
00:28:46That's a problem
00:28:47for you and your brother.
00:28:49I need you to come
00:28:50clean with me
00:28:51if there's a third person
00:28:52or if you're the one
00:28:55who f***ed up,
00:28:56then say you f***ed up
00:28:57and don't drag
00:29:00the other two down.
00:29:03Which one's you?
00:29:04He says he recognizes
00:29:29the men in the video
00:29:30from another apartment.
00:29:31Do you know their names?
00:29:42No.
00:29:50Let me check.
00:29:51The original ring camera footage
00:29:59that was sent to me.
00:30:00He's got even more.
00:30:03The owner of the doorbell camera
00:30:05sends additional video clips.
00:30:13He comes and picks up laundry
00:30:15at 10-0-4.
00:30:16Mm-hmm.
00:30:18The video confirms
00:30:19the younger brother
00:30:20was at home
00:30:21at the time of the murder.
00:30:26Hmm.
00:30:28Okay, so he's ruled out completely.
00:30:32They're going to test fire the gun.
00:30:34And right now,
00:30:34eyeballing it,
00:30:35they think it doesn't match.
00:30:36That's what we're getting at.
00:30:37The casings from the crime scene
00:30:40do not appear
00:30:41to have been fired
00:30:42from the recovered weapons.
00:30:48These aren't the guys.
00:30:50It's someone else
00:30:51that just happened to come
00:30:52from the apartments
00:30:53where they are.
00:30:53Which part was he saying?
00:31:03He said the one next door
00:31:05and the one right to the left.
00:31:07I guess the people.
00:31:11Obviously, if you smell anything,
00:31:13let everybody get out
00:31:14and we're seeing everybody
00:31:15like we did the first time.
00:31:16You ready?
00:31:24You can come on here.
00:31:25I'll get you out of here.
00:31:29That's just bad luck.
00:31:31It was looking like
00:31:32these were going to be our guys.
00:31:34Sometimes you get it wrong,
00:31:35but you just don't know
00:31:36until you question them
00:31:37and try to get to the truth
00:31:38of the matter.
00:31:39They did have stolen guns
00:31:40and a stolen vehicle
00:31:41in their possession,
00:31:42so they are involved
00:31:44with criminal activity,
00:31:45just not what we're
00:31:46investigating right now.
00:31:47We let them go.
00:31:48We can always charge them later
00:31:49if we want to.
00:31:50No rush on it right now.
00:31:52I mean, I'm frustrated
00:31:53that it didn't turn out,
00:31:55but the positive side is
00:31:56where that apartment is,
00:31:58the upstairs,
00:31:58these are our guys.
00:32:00So at least we have
00:32:01these three are 100%.
00:32:03So now it's just a matter
00:32:05of if we can identify them.
00:32:07And this one is the one
00:32:08that fired the shots on camera.
00:32:10So nice to figure out
00:32:11who he is.
00:32:13If we identify all four
00:32:14of these subjects,
00:32:15all four will be charged
00:32:16for murder.
00:32:18Hand of one,
00:32:19hand of all.
00:32:31March off to the police!
00:32:33Good work!
00:32:41Nobody's coming to the door.
00:32:43The problem's been
00:32:44long enough to hit it.
00:32:47I have a male wearing
00:32:49a camouflage hoodie.
00:32:50Who's in and out
00:32:51that apartment?
00:32:52Miller recovers
00:32:52more doorbell video
00:32:54from an apartment
00:32:55across from the potential
00:32:56suspects.
00:32:57Oh, oh, hold on.
00:32:58That might be our guy.
00:33:01One of the suspects
00:33:02had a camo jacket on.
00:33:03He's got a camo jacket.
00:33:04He's got a camo jacket on.
00:33:06She's here.
00:33:07He wears an old, uh,
00:33:08I feel like we're going to go.
00:33:13I think we have enough video
00:33:14to maybe do a facial rec.
00:33:16We're on the right track.
00:33:18We got some stuff to go off of.
00:33:19We just gotta follow up on it.
00:33:28Later that night...
00:33:29So I have these pictures
00:33:31that we got from this ring camera
00:33:33that's across the hall.
00:33:35So what I'm going to do
00:33:35is I'm going to take that picture
00:33:36and put it into Verkata
00:33:37and see what pops up.
00:33:41Our Verkata cameras
00:33:42are a city asset camera
00:33:43that we pay for to install.
00:33:46Two years ago,
00:33:47the city of North Charleston
00:33:48added over 700 surveillance cameras
00:33:50across the city
00:33:51to help reduce crime
00:33:52and improve police response time.
00:33:54They record things
00:33:55at major intersections.
00:33:57We can see everything
00:33:57from shootings to robberies
00:33:59to collisions
00:34:00to petty larcenies.
00:34:02They're extremely used
00:34:03for one of the best tools we have.
00:34:04The facial recognition software
00:34:06for Verkata,
00:34:06it's a very new feature
00:34:07they just added.
00:34:09It'll show up
00:34:10a bunch of different pictures
00:34:11who could possibly look like
00:34:12who I'm looking for.
00:34:15Okay, so I just put these
00:34:16into Verkata.
00:34:18What do you think, Malone?
00:34:19Come take a look at this real quick.
00:34:21This guy pops up right here
00:34:23with that exact same camo jacket.
00:34:27This was earlier that day,
00:34:29Thursday, April 25th.
00:34:32That's possibly
00:34:33one of the suspects right there.
00:34:35that looks like the guy
00:34:51from the ring camera video
00:34:53of his camo jacket right here.
00:34:56So we're seeing
00:34:57a potential suspect
00:34:58wearing similar clothes
00:34:59the same day as the shooting.
00:35:00He's walking alongside
00:35:06another male
00:35:07who's wearing similar clothes
00:35:09to what one of the other shooters
00:35:11is wearing.
00:35:12This dude looks like
00:35:13this dude right here.
00:35:15And then
00:35:16this guy right here
00:35:17with the long black shirt,
00:35:18dark pants,
00:35:19and the black shoes
00:35:20looks like this guy right here.
00:35:23I think that could be
00:35:24two of our guys right there.
00:35:25This Verkata camera
00:35:29is located
00:35:30in our East Montague area.
00:35:32There is a school
00:35:33just down the street.
00:35:34Maybe somebody at the school
00:35:35would recognize those two.
00:35:37And then we're going
00:35:37to send these images
00:35:38up to SLED.
00:35:39That's our South Carolina
00:35:40Law Enforcement Division.
00:35:42They have a lot of resources
00:35:43that we don't have.
00:35:44Hopefully,
00:35:45we can at least get the ID
00:35:46of two of the suspects
00:35:47out of the four.
00:35:48The next afternoon.
00:36:02This is apartment 13.
00:36:05And this
00:36:06is a guy
00:36:07that associates there.
00:36:12I heard back from Reeves.
00:36:13He talked to the school
00:36:14resource officer.
00:36:15We have identified him
00:36:16as Tristan Robertson.
00:36:19He's the one
00:36:19in the camel jacket.
00:36:23In his DMV photo,
00:36:25he's also wearing
00:36:25a camel jacket.
00:36:2819-year-old Tristan Robertson,
00:36:31a former student
00:36:32at North Charleston High School,
00:36:33has no prior convictions.
00:36:36Now, look who he's walking with.
00:36:37The body build
00:36:38of this guy.
00:36:40Doesn't that look
00:36:40very similar to this person?
00:36:43The South Carolina
00:36:44Law Enforcement Division
00:36:45ran the photo
00:36:46in their database.
00:36:48And got a hit.
00:36:50Facial rag,
00:36:51we identified him
00:36:52as Kobe Bryant.
00:36:54He was convicted
00:36:55of strong-arm robbery.
00:36:57He also got convicted
00:36:58for failure to stop
00:36:58for blue lights,
00:36:59so he's known to run.
00:37:00After serving 10 months
00:37:02in jail for larceny
00:37:03and receiving stolen goods,
00:37:0522-year-old Kobe Bryant
00:37:07was released
00:37:08six months ago.
00:37:09I think this is Tristan.
00:37:12I don't know who this is.
00:37:14I think this is Kobe.
00:37:16So we're going to do
00:37:17like a workup on them,
00:37:19see if they're on probation,
00:37:21what their phone number is,
00:37:23all that.
00:37:24I hope we can get
00:37:25these guys in custody,
00:37:26because once we catch
00:37:27at least one of them,
00:37:28they'll hopefully snitch
00:37:29on the others.
00:37:29as the clock winds down.
00:37:37I'm Detective Vantine.
00:37:39I'm assigned to the case
00:37:40for both the robbery
00:37:41and the homicide.
00:37:43Vantine meets
00:37:44with Eriberto's family
00:37:45and the three robbery victims.
00:37:47When we came in on Thursday,
00:37:49we had no idea
00:37:50who did this.
00:37:51Friday,
00:37:52we ended up pulling video
00:37:53from the area
00:37:54and got a description
00:37:55of possible suspects.
00:37:57Now, today,
00:37:58we've got possible names,
00:38:00and we're trying
00:38:00to piece that together.
00:38:02So we're actually
00:38:03a lot closer
00:38:04than we were.
00:38:06Sometimes these investigations
00:38:07take time.
00:38:08Let them know
00:38:09the second we make an arrest,
00:38:10the second we make an arrest,
00:38:11they are the first people
00:38:13we will call
00:38:13and let them know.
00:38:15Please,
00:38:16we would really appreciate that.
00:38:17Oh, definitely.
00:38:18We're working hard.
00:38:18Trust me.
00:38:19We are doing our best we can.
00:38:20So,
00:38:21if this is important,
00:38:22Detective,
00:38:22that they understand
00:38:23the best police department
00:38:38there is,
00:38:38no Charleston,
00:38:39period.
00:38:40They're the best.
00:38:41You don't worry about that.
00:38:42Solo let them work,
00:38:44right?
00:38:44And work with the situation,
00:38:45but they need time.
00:38:47It's going to be okay.
00:38:48Okay.
00:38:53In the first 48,
00:39:06North Charleston detectives
00:39:08responded to the murder
00:39:09of Heriberto Martinez Martinez,
00:39:11killed in his sleep
00:39:12by a stray bullet
00:39:13during a robbery,
00:39:14spoke to the robbery victims
00:39:16who said four men
00:39:17fled the scene,
00:39:18firing as they ran,
00:39:20discovered video surveillance
00:39:21that tracked three of the men
00:39:22to an apartment complex
00:39:24near the crime scene,
00:39:25identified two of the possible suspects
00:39:27as Tristan Robertson
00:39:28and Kobe Bryant,
00:39:30but all four suspects
00:39:31are still at large.
00:39:42Two days later...
00:39:44One of our guys
00:39:45that I think we've identified
00:39:46in the photo,
00:39:48Kobe Bryant
00:39:48is going to meet
00:39:50with his P.O.
00:39:51Detectives,
00:39:52head out to meet
00:39:52with Kobe's parole officers,
00:39:54hoping to question Kobe.
00:39:56We just want to talk to him,
00:39:57see about if he will
00:39:58identify himself,
00:39:59and also see if his P.O.
00:40:00will identify him
00:40:01from that photo
00:40:02that we have.
00:40:06Is that her?
00:40:06Hey, how you doing?
00:40:12Thank you so much
00:40:13for meeting with us.
00:40:14I'm Detective Vanton.
00:40:15Nice to meet you.
00:40:16Same here.
00:40:17I'll show you a photo.
00:40:19Yep, that looks like him.
00:40:22That definitely
00:40:23had to tell us, Kobe.
00:40:24That's Kobe?
00:40:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:40:27Is he pretty cooperative?
00:40:28Would he talk with us?
00:40:29I think so,
00:40:30because believe it or not,
00:40:30he doesn't want to go back to jail.
00:40:32He helps us,
00:40:33like we'll try our best
00:40:34to help him.
00:40:35He's texting.
00:40:36He said 10 minutes.
00:40:37Okay.
00:40:40Yeah.
00:40:42Well, that's a good sign.
00:40:43She's pretty much
00:40:44thinking that's him.
00:40:45And it's just a matter
00:40:46of getting him
00:40:47to just say,
00:40:48that's me.
00:40:49And once he admits that,
00:40:51we have him.
00:40:52And all we have to do
00:40:54is at that point
00:40:54is see if he'll give up
00:40:57the other names.
00:41:03Hey, how you doing?
00:41:04He's pulling around.
00:41:07He's in a baby.
00:41:08There should be.
00:41:09Yeah, I see him.
00:41:10I see him.
00:41:11You see him?
00:41:11Yes, ma'am.
00:41:12All right, thank you.
00:41:16I'm going to go hot.
00:41:17Come on.
00:41:22Kobe spots the detectives
00:41:24and takes off.
00:41:26Can I have an EMS
00:41:35to the Lonnie Hamilton building?
00:41:51Myself and the suspects.
00:41:53We fell after a brief foot chase.
00:41:56What kind of idiot's
00:41:57going to poke me
00:41:58or stick me or anything
00:41:59about, man?
00:42:00He just took off running.
00:42:02I caught him
00:42:02on the other side
00:42:03of the parking lot.
00:42:07We just wanted to talk to him,
00:42:08so it makes it look
00:42:09a little weird
00:42:10that he just takes off running
00:42:11as soon as we get out of the car.
00:42:12Kobe Bryant's parole officer
00:42:19approaches Miller.
00:42:30Inside the car
00:42:33is the other person
00:42:34of interest,
00:42:35Tristan Robertson.
00:42:37Fenton.
00:42:38It's Tristan in the backseat.
00:42:39Okay.
00:42:40Hey, close to that backseat
00:42:41and detain that.
00:42:48Tristan.
00:42:49Tristan.
00:42:49Right back.
00:42:50All right.
00:42:50The chain's right back.
00:42:51We got anything in here.
00:42:52What the f***?
00:42:54Excuse me.
00:42:55Butler's going to go
00:42:56sit at the hospital.
00:42:57We'll take him
00:42:58to the detective day
00:42:59right now.
00:43:00While Kobe is taken
00:43:01to the hospital
00:43:01for evaluation,
00:43:03Tristan is detained
00:43:04for questioning.
00:43:05We've got Tristan
00:43:06and Kobe.
00:43:07Tristan was in the backseat
00:43:08to Florida.
00:43:10Hopefully he'll talk
00:43:10to us, though,
00:43:11because they're not
00:43:11happy right now.
00:43:20That's Tristan Robertson.
00:43:22Going to go in
00:43:22and try to interview him,
00:43:23see if he'll admit
00:43:24that he's in the photos.
00:43:26What do y'all need?
00:43:28A few kind words,
00:43:29some support.
00:43:30You got this.
00:43:31You want a chest bump?
00:43:32You want me to punch you
00:43:33in the chest?
00:43:34Oh, okay.
00:43:35Come on.
00:43:36Going in to hurt him.
00:43:39Hey, man,
00:43:40you need any water
00:43:40or anything?
00:43:41You sure?
00:43:45Okay, I'll try
00:43:46to get you home
00:43:46as quick as I can.
00:43:48Obviously, you saw
00:43:49what happened out there,
00:43:49right?
00:43:50Running and all that.
00:43:52You see me stay right here?
00:43:54I know.
00:43:55That's awesome, dude.
00:43:56How old are you, man?
00:43:5719.
00:43:5819?
00:43:59What grade
00:43:59did you complete
00:44:00in school?
00:44:0011.
00:44:02You got your GED
00:44:02or anything?
00:44:03No.
00:44:03You go and work on that?
00:44:04Yeah.
00:44:05That's what I'm trying
00:44:05to work on now.
00:44:06Sweet.
00:44:07What do you do
00:44:07for a living, though?
00:44:08I work at Emily Oil.
00:44:09Oh, okay.
00:44:10I got you.
00:44:12No, basically,
00:44:13I just want to talk
00:44:13to you about some things.
00:44:14I want to show you
00:44:15some pictures.
00:44:16That's it.
00:44:17I don't know why
00:44:18he did what he did,
00:44:19but we'll talk
00:44:20to him as well.
00:44:21I want to show
00:44:22a picture.
00:44:25This is off of,
00:44:26like, Jenkins Avenue.
00:44:27This is April 25th,
00:44:28which is a Thursday.
00:44:29Van Tine shows Tristan
00:44:32the photo from city cameras
00:44:33taken six hours
00:44:35before the homicide.
00:44:37I mean...
00:44:38Do you have a
00:44:40camouflage jacket
00:44:40like that?
00:44:41No.
00:44:42I used to when I was...
00:44:44That was back in 2021.
00:44:47That how I mean?
00:44:48I don't know.
00:44:49That's not me.
00:44:52I was with my granny
00:44:53Thursday and Friday.
00:44:55Where's your granny house?
00:44:57West Ashby.
00:44:58The reason is,
00:44:58because...
00:44:59So, there was an incident
00:45:00that happened
00:45:01on Thursday night.
00:45:03Where?
00:45:04Around Midland Park and Stahl.
00:45:07I think you were
00:45:07with some people
00:45:08that messed up.
00:45:09Yes.
00:45:10I'm asking you,
00:45:11trying to treat you
00:45:12as a witness here.
00:45:14That's not me, though.
00:45:16I'm telling you,
00:45:17that's not me.
00:45:17Where I was at,
00:45:18you can call my dad
00:45:19and my grandma.
00:45:20So you stayed
00:45:21in West Ashby
00:45:21the entire time on Friday?
00:45:23I got you.
00:45:25Van Tine shows him
00:45:26another photo
00:45:26taken by a city camera
00:45:27the day after the shooting.
00:45:33So you're saying
00:45:34that ain't you?
00:45:35That looked like
00:45:36North Charleston.
00:45:37Yeah, it's North Charleston.
00:45:38But you're saying
00:45:38you and West Ashby
00:45:39on this date?
00:45:43All right.
00:45:44I don't look like
00:45:45North Charleston.
00:45:48You're saying, like,
00:45:48the pictures are
00:45:49completely wrong?
00:45:50Like, we could...
00:45:50I don't know.
00:45:51That's...
00:45:51I don't know.
00:45:51Like, how is there
00:45:52a picture of you
00:45:53in an area
00:45:54that you're claiming
00:45:55that you're not?
00:45:55We have cameras
00:45:56all over the city.
00:45:57We have cameras
00:45:57all over Stahl Road.
00:45:58We have cameras
00:45:59all over Facet.
00:46:00You see what I'm saying?
00:46:01I was not on Stahl Road.
00:46:04I don't know
00:46:05what you're talking
00:46:06about,
00:46:06what happened on Stahl Road.
00:46:07I was not on Stahl Road.
00:46:09You can just give me
00:46:10a look.
00:46:10I don't know
00:46:11what it's going at.
00:46:13Okay.
00:46:16I'll be back.
00:46:17I told you
00:46:17where I was at,
00:46:18so...
00:46:18You sit tight.
00:46:19He's just denying everything.
00:46:31He didn't know
00:46:32what to say
00:46:32if he showed him
00:46:33that left.
00:46:33No.
00:46:34He said,
00:46:35that's not me
00:46:35and then lured up.
00:46:37Like, he literally said
00:46:39he's in West Ashley.
00:46:39He never left West Ashley.
00:46:40A few minutes later,
00:46:48Kobe arrives
00:46:49at headquarters.
00:46:52We'll get Detective Butler
00:46:53to try to talk to him.
00:46:55Maybe it'd be better
00:46:55that someone
00:46:56who wasn't on scene
00:46:57when he ran
00:46:57and ran after him
00:46:58would be probably better.
00:47:00He's requested
00:47:01to speak to
00:47:02Sergeant Mike Brown,
00:47:03who used to mentor him
00:47:04when he was a younger kid.
00:47:06The detective
00:47:07Kobe requested
00:47:08is currently working
00:47:09for the chief of police.
00:47:10So I'm going to get
00:47:11in contact with him
00:47:12to see if he'd be willing
00:47:13to come down
00:47:13and speak to Kobe.
00:47:15The murder's at 9.50 p.m.?
00:47:17Yeah.
00:47:17This is at 3.50
00:47:19on the day of the murder.
00:47:20Get him to identify himself.
00:47:21That's going to be Kobe
00:47:22and that's going to be Tristan.
00:47:25Just found this picture
00:47:26on Kobe's Facebook
00:47:28and those shoes
00:47:29are the green Nike.
00:47:33The Facebook photo
00:47:34of Kobe
00:47:35was posted four months ago.
00:47:38His shoes match.
00:47:39If you watch
00:47:39the actual video,
00:47:40the shoes match
00:47:41from his picture
00:47:42there.
00:47:45All right,
00:47:45I'll go talk to him.
00:47:47All right.
00:47:50I've been brought up
00:47:51to speed on
00:47:51what's going on here.
00:47:56Who is that?
00:47:57Butler shows him
00:47:57a photo from a city camera
00:47:59on the day
00:48:00of the shooting.
00:48:01I don't know who that is.
00:48:02No idea who that is?
00:48:05No.
00:48:09But you know
00:48:10what happened Thursday?
00:48:10No.
00:48:11I don't know
00:48:11what happened Thursday.
00:48:14Let me ask you a question.
00:48:15You have some
00:48:16white and
00:48:17teal or bluish
00:48:18like high top
00:48:19Nike
00:48:20or whatever?
00:48:21Did you let...
00:48:22You know what I'm talking about?
00:48:22It's on your...
00:48:23You're waiting on
00:48:23on your Facebook page.
00:48:28Hey, man.
00:48:29That's what you...
00:48:29That's what you're asking for, right?
00:48:30Yeah.
00:48:31I go and see
00:48:31the base law
00:48:32for the day.
00:48:33Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:48:35Hold on, hold on.
00:48:36You know how we roll, right?
00:48:38Sure.
00:48:38You have those shoes, right?
00:48:40No.
00:48:41I'm not coming up.
00:48:42Did you give those shoes
00:48:43to somebody?
00:48:44No, I was supposed to give them to me.
00:48:45But I didn't give them.
00:48:47I left them at a friend's house.
00:48:48When?
00:48:49Long time.
00:48:51Okay.
00:48:52All right.
00:48:52We'll talk to you for a minute.
00:48:57Listen, man.
00:48:58How long have we known each other?
00:49:00A long time.
00:49:00A long time.
00:49:02I know your family.
00:49:04Right?
00:49:05I know you.
00:49:0710,000 billion.
00:49:08And that may be the case.
00:49:10But they don't have you up here
00:49:11for no reason.
00:49:13I've been doing this
00:49:13for a long time.
00:49:14I'm telling you 100%
00:49:16that everything that they're asking you,
00:49:18they know the answers to
00:49:19for the most part.
00:49:21They're not just asking you
00:49:22for no reason.
00:49:23This is your opportunity
00:49:24to help yourself out
00:49:26as best you can.
00:49:28There's only one thing
00:49:28I need from you.
00:49:30What's that?
00:49:31I need for you
00:49:32to at least tell me the truth.
00:49:38Kobe, listen to me.
00:49:51I don't want to see you
00:49:52throw your life away, dude.
00:49:54Me neither.
00:49:55I just come home.
00:49:56It's time to get my life back together.
00:49:59Right.
00:49:59And I don't want to see
00:50:00anything happen to you.
00:50:01But if you're not
00:50:03telling the truth,
00:50:04you know what's going to happen.
00:50:06But I had nothing to do
00:50:07with this situation.
00:50:08I had nothing to do
00:50:08with it.
00:50:08I don't even know
00:50:09what's going on.
00:50:12I'm not saying that
00:50:13you did anything
00:50:14that you shot somebody.
00:50:15But I know you might
00:50:18be a witness to it.
00:50:19Witness to a murder?
00:50:22I didn't know
00:50:22nothing about no murder,
00:50:24no nothing.
00:50:25I didn't know
00:50:26if it was something
00:50:26that happened
00:50:27on Star Wars last week.
00:50:28I saw it on Facebook.
00:50:31So what happened?
00:50:32I don't know.
00:50:32They said somebody
00:50:33being robbed or some shit
00:50:34investigating an armed robbery
00:50:35with you.
00:50:36I guess one person
00:50:37died of some shit.
00:50:38I don't know
00:50:38nothing about the shit.
00:50:39I'd be in my cowhouse,
00:50:41I'd be at her,
00:50:41and I'd be home.
00:50:43I don't know
00:50:43I don't be in nobody else.
00:50:45You know there's a difference
00:50:48between being a suspect
00:50:50and a witness, right?
00:50:53What's the difference?
00:50:54I ain't a suspect.
00:50:55I'm an innocent person.
00:50:56Right.
00:50:57And what's a witness?
00:50:58Someone has knowledge of me.
00:51:00I don't got knowledge of shit.
00:51:02Right.
00:51:02So there's two different things.
00:51:04Yeah.
00:51:04I guess I don't have to be real.
00:51:05I don't have knowledge
00:51:06of what happened Thursday night,
00:51:07and I was not a suspect
00:51:08of shit that happened Thursday night.
00:51:11I got you.
00:51:11I understand what you're saying.
00:51:14Don't you try to say?
00:51:15I'm trying to understand
00:51:16what's going on.
00:51:18I wasn't there.
00:51:20And if I was there,
00:51:21I would have told you
00:51:21I was there,
00:51:22but I wasn't there.
00:51:25What if there's something
00:51:26that shows different?
00:51:27There's something
00:51:28that shows different
00:51:28than I and me.
00:51:30I and me.
00:51:32I don't want to be anywhere.
00:51:34All right.
00:51:36It's Sergeant Bailey.
00:51:38What's up, man?
00:51:38Yes, sir.
00:51:39So, I know you've been in here
00:51:41talking to Sergeant Brown
00:51:43because I've been listening.
00:51:44He's not lying to you
00:51:45when he tells you
00:51:46that we have a lot more
00:51:47than what you think we have.
00:51:49I want to lay some stuff
00:51:50down on the table for you,
00:51:51all right?
00:51:53Because we've been investigating
00:51:54this thing since it happened
00:51:56last Thursday night.
00:51:57All right.
00:51:58So, you know that the city
00:52:00has thousands of cameras
00:52:02around it.
00:52:03I'm pretty sure it is.
00:52:04Bailey shows him
00:52:31a photo of Tristan.
00:52:34You met him today?
00:52:54Yes.
00:52:55Kobe, you don't lie
00:52:57to the man, don't you?
00:52:58You met him today
00:52:59when you with this man
00:53:00on Thursday.
00:53:01It's not a trick question.
00:53:03All right, Thursday.
00:53:04Like I said,
00:53:05I was trying to see my PO.
00:53:07Somehow, somehow,
00:53:07he was there.
00:53:12Okay.
00:53:13You have to understand
00:53:14what I'm trying to tell you.
00:53:15You're in a situation.
00:53:17I know I'm in this situation.
00:53:18Yeah, I want you to understand
00:53:19how bad this situation is.
00:53:21Ain't got nothing to do with me.
00:53:22And I've got your PO
00:53:23telling me
00:53:24when they watch your video,
00:53:25this person right here?
00:53:30That dude, right there.
00:53:32Supposed to be me, huh?
00:53:33She's saying that, isn't she?
00:53:37Is you a witness?
00:53:39All these bitches,
00:53:40I tell y'all got me in this
00:53:40finally, not in real
00:53:42in this
00:53:42So you're admitting that's you?
00:53:47No.
00:53:48That's me, all right?
00:53:49That's me, that's me,
00:53:50and that's me.
00:53:51That's me, me, me.
00:53:52But I got black hat on
00:53:54in these bitches.
00:53:55Where the heck comes from?
00:53:56I don't know.
00:53:56Exactly.
00:53:56The thing I'm trying
00:53:58to let you know
00:53:58is all these guys
00:54:00right here
00:54:01people away
00:54:01from this apartment complex
00:54:03which is less than
00:54:04300 yards away
00:54:05from where the incident
00:54:06location happened
00:54:06wearing the same blue
00:54:08I don't have no green hat.
00:54:10I don't have no green hat.
00:54:13Listen to me, let's say, Kobe.
00:54:14I have not seen
00:54:15any of those bitches.
00:54:16You share with Sergeant Bailey
00:54:18more than you share with me
00:54:19and I know you.
00:54:20All right, because...
00:54:21Kobe, I know you.
00:54:22How you think that makes me feel?
00:54:24But you didn't tell me
00:54:25about any of this shit.
00:54:25I didn't know
00:54:26they had none of this shit.
00:54:27I'm not, I, I, I,
00:54:28I'm not asking you.
00:54:29I'm asking you.
00:54:30I'm gonna speak to my lawyer.
00:54:32All right, I'm gonna speak
00:54:33to my lawyer, bro.
00:54:34I don't know the shit.
00:54:35I'm gonna speak to my lawyer.
00:54:35I'm leaving.
00:54:36He's staying as your friend.
00:54:37I'm leaving.
00:54:38I don't got no friends, bro.
00:54:39I don't got no friends.
00:54:40I don't speak to my lawyer.
00:54:41I understand.
00:54:43But, Kobe,
00:54:43listen to what I'm telling you.
00:54:45Turn around, man.
00:54:46Let's talk.
00:54:47Turn around.
00:54:47Let's talk.
00:54:49That's disrespectful
00:54:49to turn your back on me.
00:54:51You know what, man?
00:54:51Y'all ain't getting me
00:54:52down saying I was
00:54:53in a mom and an arm robbery
00:54:54or some shit.
00:54:54I'm not talking about that
00:54:55no more.
00:54:58I think this is the best
00:55:00detective unit in the state,
00:55:02probably in the world.
00:55:04They're great at what they do.
00:55:06They'll find the truth.
00:55:07I guarantee you that.
00:55:08They'll find it,
00:55:09but I wouldn't do it.
00:55:09They'll find the truth.
00:55:10Well, I'm always around,
00:55:13so call me if you need
00:55:14to talk to me about this.
00:55:16All right?
00:55:22He loaded up,
00:55:23so it's not what
00:55:23I can't do with that.
00:55:24He loaded up.
00:55:25He was being faced
00:55:26with too much music.
00:55:27But I did leave him
00:55:28with,
00:55:29I'll be here.
00:55:31I can just have
00:55:31somebody call me.
00:55:32We'll talk it out.
00:55:34When I got the call
00:55:35that he was down here,
00:55:36I had to get prepared
00:55:37to put the Big Brother
00:55:39coat on.
00:55:40Sergeant Mike Brown
00:55:41first met Kobe
00:55:42several years ago
00:55:43as a school resource
00:55:44officer.
00:55:44I played football
00:55:45with his uncle
00:55:47in high school,
00:55:48and he walked up to me
00:55:49and was like,
00:55:50hey, you know my family.
00:55:51And so we formed a pretty
00:55:52good rapport,
00:55:53good relationship,
00:55:54and I always kept
00:55:55that door open with him
00:55:57like, hey, man,
00:55:57if you need something,
00:55:58I'm there for you.
00:56:00But in this case,
00:56:01it's different.
00:56:02I mean, it's a murder,
00:56:03so it's kind of hard
00:56:05to break that barrier
00:56:05right now.
00:56:07Probation officer called
00:56:09just now.
00:56:10Yeah.
00:56:12Kobe's mom called her.
00:56:13She found credit cards
00:56:15and debit cards
00:56:15with Hispanic names
00:56:16in Christian's room.
00:56:19According to the parole
00:56:20officer,
00:56:21the cards were found
00:56:22in a bedroom
00:56:23shared by Kobe's
00:56:24two younger brothers.
00:56:26Kobe's got a brother
00:56:27named Christian
00:56:28and a brother
00:56:28named Jameson.
00:56:34Christian Bryant?
00:56:3520-year-old Christian Bryant
00:56:37has no prior convictions.
00:56:42This is Jameson Bryant.
00:56:4418-year-old Jameson Bryant
00:56:45also has no prior convictions.
00:56:48The thing is,
00:56:49is we have four suspects,
00:56:51so it could be all them
00:56:52and Tristan.
00:56:54I'm ready to go home.
00:56:56Y'all not in the room,
00:56:57you man, come on.
00:56:58That's what I'm thinking.
00:56:59It's going to be him,
00:57:00his two brothers,
00:57:01probably, and Tristan.
00:57:03That witness approach
00:57:04may be failing with him
00:57:05because he knows
00:57:06it's his brother
00:57:07going to be the shooter.
00:57:08F*** now.
00:57:11Let's go.
00:57:12We got to get
00:57:12a search warrant going.
00:57:13We need to get someone
00:57:14over there
00:57:14to get those.
00:57:16You have Tiffany
00:57:17the phone number
00:57:17because Tiffany's
00:57:19going to go with
00:57:19Gina and Cockrell.
00:57:24That's her apartment.
00:57:25That's her contact number.
00:57:27Okay.
00:57:28Really,
00:57:29if we can get
00:57:29the names on the cards
00:57:31and then Wilson
00:57:31do a search warrant,
00:57:33I hope they come back
00:57:33to our victims.
00:57:36I think these are our guys.
00:57:37If the credit card
00:57:44comes back
00:57:45to one of the victims
00:57:46that was robbed,
00:57:47that would seal the deal.
00:57:56Hello?
00:57:57Yeah.
00:58:04I'll put you on speaker.
00:58:05We'll repeat that.
00:58:05Caitlin just got a call back
00:58:08from the armed robbery victim.
00:58:10He confirmed
00:58:11that that bank card
00:58:12is his.
00:58:16Thank you so much.
00:58:17That's awesome.
00:58:18That's great news.
00:58:20Bye.
00:58:21Kofor's son fled
00:58:22the residence
00:58:23and she doesn't know
00:58:24where they are.
00:58:26According to their mother,
00:58:27Christian and Jameson
00:58:28left home
00:58:29after hearing Kobe
00:58:30was detained
00:58:31and won't return her calls.
00:58:33Kobe was staying
00:58:34with his girlfriend,
00:58:35which is in Goose Creek.
00:58:37That means the clothing's
00:58:38probably in her house
00:58:40in Goose Creek.
00:58:41The team will get warrants
00:58:42to search Kobe's
00:58:42girlfriend's house
00:58:43and his mother's house
00:58:45for additional evidence.
00:58:47It's his two brothers.
00:58:48That's why he can't.
00:58:49That's why he won't play
00:58:51because he can't
00:58:51ride on his brothers.
00:58:53I think with the credit card
00:58:55being found now
00:58:56that belonging to the victim,
00:58:57I think obviously
00:58:58murder charge on him
00:58:59and there it's a game.
00:59:00I think he can go
00:59:01murder on him.
00:59:01I'm going to go murder on him
00:59:02because he's with him
00:59:03before and after.
00:59:05What the
00:59:05he's going on?
00:59:08What the
00:59:09is going on?
00:59:16I don't like
00:59:16the way this thing's going.
00:59:19What are you trying to say?
00:59:19I'm going to jail?
00:59:22All right.
00:59:22Where are you going to jail from?
00:59:23He just told me
00:59:24they found some stuff.
00:59:26At your mama's house,
00:59:27Kobe,
00:59:27and that's not cool.
00:59:28Like, that ain't cool
00:59:29because I'm sure
00:59:30your mama
00:59:30ain't have nothing to do.
00:59:32She don't
00:59:33and I don't either.
00:59:35So who has access
00:59:36to your mom's house
00:59:36besides you and your brothers?
00:59:38They don't.
00:59:39And my mama.
00:59:42So which one of them
00:59:44might be involved in this?
00:59:57Well, I don't know
00:59:59which one of them
01:00:00is going to be involved today.
01:00:01I don't know.
01:00:01I get it.
01:00:02I understand.
01:00:03It's tough.
01:00:07I can't point fingers.
01:00:08I can't.
01:00:09I can't take nothing
01:00:10but nothing.
01:00:13Put the charges on.
01:00:15They're probably going to
01:00:16charge you with murder.
01:00:17I'm going to charge you
01:00:17and murder for?
01:00:19I don't want to
01:00:20I don't want to
01:00:21do it, man.
01:00:22Don't put your mom
01:00:23through this, bro.
01:00:24Don't do it.
01:00:25You've got to be
01:00:26responsible for anything
01:00:28that you've done
01:00:28or anything that you
01:00:29have knowledge of.
01:00:32Really didn't find out
01:00:33my mama's house?
01:00:34I don't know
01:00:34what you're talking about.
01:00:35I don't know what you're talking about.
01:00:39All right.
01:00:42If you know I'm talking to me,
01:00:44you know where I'm at.
01:00:44You know the game's contacting me.
01:00:46See anything I've searched before.
01:00:50He's not coming off.
01:00:51I was going to tell
01:00:52on a brother, you know,
01:00:53so I understand.
01:00:55But it's what it is.
01:01:00Sounds like
01:01:00his brothers are involved.
01:01:03Some of the things
01:01:04may be at his mother's house.
01:01:06It's a sad situation,
01:01:08but it never has to happen this way.
01:01:09We all have choices.
01:01:10I told him if he wants to
01:01:11talk to us,
01:01:12he knows how to get in touch with me.
01:01:16All right.
01:01:17We're going to transport you to jail.
01:01:19What am I doing?
01:01:20Murder.
01:01:20Murder?
01:01:21Yeah, murder.
01:01:22Me?
01:01:22Yeah, you.
01:01:23How the f***?
01:01:23I ain't getting murdered.
01:01:26That's stupid.
01:01:27That's not me, bro.
01:01:28Wrong person.
01:01:29Ain't no f***ing murder.
01:01:30Well, you're being charged with murder.
01:01:32That's a f***ing down, bro.
01:01:33That's a f***ing down.
01:01:34I'm going to transport you to the jail, so.
01:01:36That's a f***.
01:01:37I'm going to transport you.
01:01:38Dumb-ass people.
01:01:39Dumb-ass people.
01:01:40I'm taking that s*** all the way to trial,
01:01:43I'm calling.
01:01:45It's been a good day.
01:01:47We actually got two suspects in custody for murder.
01:01:50So out of the three suspects,
01:01:52that's Tristan Robertson,
01:01:54and that's Kobe Bryant.
01:01:56This person we do not know,
01:01:58and he's the shooter.
01:02:00There's actually a fourth suspect
01:02:01that's not pictured here
01:02:02that shows up with them.
01:02:03I believe it's going to be his brother's.
01:02:06It's just not proving it.
01:02:17The next day.
01:02:20You want some water or something?
01:02:23No, I'm okay.
01:02:25This is Kobe's mom.
01:02:28Kobe's probation officer
01:02:29wrote me an email this morning
01:02:30saying that Kobe's mom wanted to talk to us.
01:02:33She wants to provide additional information
01:02:36because she thinks that her other son
01:02:37is involved with the homicide.
01:02:41Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.
01:02:46Hello, man.
01:02:46Detective Bantime.
01:02:48Nice to meet you.
01:02:50I got here.
01:02:51Two sons that live with you are
01:02:53Christian with a K?
01:02:55Yes.
01:02:56And the other one is Jameson?
01:02:58Yes.
01:02:59Where are they now?
01:03:00I have no clue.
01:03:04When did Kobe move out?
01:03:05Kobe was gone for about a month,
01:03:07and I found out what I found out yesterday.
01:03:10What did you find out?
01:03:11Well, what I heard from Kobe's PO
01:03:13is that first he was being detained,
01:03:15and he was supposed to be a person of interest
01:03:17to the robbery.
01:03:20And I was like, what?
01:03:22Like that?
01:03:22You know, I'm shocked.
01:03:24So she was just filling me in what's going on,
01:03:25and she said it was a Mexican person that died.
01:03:32I was like, what?
01:03:33I was like, it's funny when she said that.
01:03:34I was like, well, I found a Mexican check in my house.
01:03:38Friday.
01:03:39Yes.
01:03:39When I went inside that room,
01:03:41it was sitting on the floor.
01:03:42So I picked it up, and I looked at it.
01:03:44I'm like, I know for sure there's nobody in my house.
01:03:46So when Christian got back, I was like,
01:03:48well, whose check is this?
01:03:50Oh, I found it on the ground.
01:03:52I said, well, why would you be stupid
01:03:53to pick it up and bring it home?
01:03:55Just get rid of it.
01:03:56He said he tore it out, and he threw it away.
01:04:00Sunday passed.
01:04:01I found another check.
01:04:03And there's a credit card, too.
01:04:05So now that everything is added,
01:04:06I said, well, let me just let her know
01:04:08what's going on.
01:04:09You know what I'm saying?
01:04:10Yeah, yeah.
01:04:11I really appreciate that.
01:04:14I know it's hard.
01:04:15Pull forward.
01:04:16I took it to find my kids.
01:04:19Tristan?
01:04:19I don't know who Tristan was.
01:04:21We got him.
01:04:23This definitely looks like him.
01:04:25Dad looks like Cole.
01:04:27And look at that one, too.
01:04:30Oh, yeah, that's definitely James.
01:04:33Which one is?
01:04:34That's definitely James.
01:04:36He's the only one that wears this third great jacket.
01:04:39G.I.D.'s the suspected shooter
01:04:41as her 18-year-old son, James.
01:04:45Do you think Christian would be with him?
01:04:47Do you think he'd be one of the guys
01:04:49running in the video?
01:04:51I'm not sure.
01:04:57All right, I can call if you need me, too.
01:04:59Yeah, you can ask me.
01:05:01No, I'm going to just be scared
01:05:02at one time because, I mean,
01:05:03I don't want to sound
01:05:04a little shaggy or something.
01:05:05It ain't.
01:05:06I don't want to ask you, honestly,
01:05:11you got something to do with this Robert Rutherford?
01:05:14Yeah, I've been able to fight them.
01:05:16I wasn't involved.
01:05:17How do you mean you've been with them?
01:05:19I ain't got to be with them all.
01:05:21So, you've been there when the Robert Rutherford plays, too,
01:05:24because the surveillance touches I'm looking at?
01:05:26I expect all three of them look like y'all.
01:05:28Jameson been there, too?
01:05:31I need you to answer my question.
01:05:32Was Jameson with y'all?
01:05:35Y'all knew what y'all did.
01:05:36When I found them checks
01:05:37and I asked you about them checks,
01:05:39why y'all did what y'all did?
01:05:40Y'all, you know what somebody did?
01:05:41Jameson is not involved with it.
01:05:44You're not involved in it,
01:05:46but you've been there
01:05:47when the robbery was going on?
01:05:49You don't want to speak on the phone,
01:05:50so would you like to come in
01:05:51and talk a question right now
01:05:52because it's a serious matter to y'all.
01:05:57If you ain't did nothing,
01:05:59then why are you running?
01:06:03I ain't the person that you...
01:06:05You know, he said Jameson was with them?
01:06:08Yes.
01:06:09He said, of course.
01:06:10Oh, is that what he said?
01:06:11I couldn't hear.
01:06:11Yeah.
01:06:12So, that's all three of my kids
01:06:13and then...
01:06:14And the other one.
01:06:15Yeah.
01:06:16So, I don't know what else to do.
01:06:17No, you've done a lot.
01:06:18I appreciate you calling him
01:06:20and all that.
01:06:20And if you can convince him
01:06:22to come and meet with us
01:06:23at some point, not now,
01:06:24I mean, just, you know...
01:06:25No, he needs to come now.
01:06:27He knows that's why he hung up.
01:06:31I really appreciate it.
01:06:33No problem.
01:06:33I think that's about it.
01:06:35I know we have your number.
01:06:37As far as a victim,
01:06:38I know I'm probably not allowed
01:06:40to reach out to them
01:06:41because they are my kids,
01:06:42you know what I'm saying?
01:06:42But can I express my sympathy?
01:06:45You know, I do just apologize for it.
01:06:47I can't take it back.
01:06:48But, you know,
01:06:48it's just not right
01:06:49at the end of the day.
01:06:51Oh, gosh.
01:06:51They make their own choices.
01:06:55Okay?
01:06:55Don't put that on you.
01:06:59Yeah, of course he can't come back.
01:07:02Then it wasn't because
01:07:03of choices you made.
01:07:04She is so cooperative.
01:07:22An amazingly wonderful, cooperative mother.
01:07:25And all three of her kids are involved.
01:07:27I feel horrible for her.
01:07:29She identified one in the middle,
01:07:31saying that looks like Jameson,
01:07:32and then she called Christian on the phone,
01:07:34and he said he was there,
01:07:36and Jameson was there for the robbery.
01:07:39And on speaker?
01:07:40Yeah.
01:07:41They're in the wind.
01:07:44And she's going to try to call them
01:07:46and try to get them to come in.
01:07:48That made the case right there,
01:07:49helping us to bring justice to this family
01:07:53quicker than it would have been done
01:07:54if she hadn't come in
01:07:55and gave us that information.
01:07:57She was upset,
01:07:58but she said that she wanted to appear in court
01:08:00just so she can see the victims
01:08:03and tell them how sorry she is
01:08:05that her sons did this.
01:08:08Our two outstanding defendants,
01:08:11I will send the warrants over
01:08:12to our marshal's task force,
01:08:14and they will start tracking them
01:08:15so we can locate them
01:08:16and safely effect an arrest on them.
01:08:28Eight days later.
01:08:31So it's going to be this brick house right here.
01:08:33The marshals track Christian and Jameson
01:08:37to a relative's house in Glen Terrace.
01:08:40We're surrounding the house,
01:08:42and we're going to try to get them out peacefully.
01:08:44But SWAT on standby just in case.
01:08:51I know you're in the sky.
01:08:53Don't wait for the others.
01:08:55You need to knock the door to your hands out
01:08:57or walk out the door to the door now.
01:09:03I know you're in the sky.
01:09:12Negotiations are in progress right now,
01:09:13and we're standing by.
01:09:16We know they're armed.
01:09:17We know they're dangerous.
01:09:18So we just want to take all precautions
01:09:19to make sure the citizens nearby don't get hurt,
01:09:21nor any officers, nor them.
01:09:27Ready?
01:09:29As the team approaches the house...
01:09:31The brothers flee out the back.
01:09:46He's gone.
01:10:0220-year-old Christian Bryant is taken into custody.
01:10:10But the suspected shooter, Jameson Bryant, is nowhere to be found.
01:10:15The spot did not locate him in the house. He slipped out.
01:10:18It's still a win. Still a win in the book.
01:10:21Three down, one to go.
01:10:23Christian, Bryant, I know you know what you're out here in reference to.
01:10:36I want to get your side of the story of what happened.
01:10:41Listen, I've known this job for a long time. I get it.
01:10:43Accents happen, bad s*** happens all the f***ing time.
01:10:46It's hard to f***ing talk about because it's f***ing.
01:10:49But you can't get over the facts of the case.
01:10:52Right.
01:10:53We have video of the incident. We have video leave in the apartment.
01:10:56The facts are what they are.
01:10:58This is your chance to tell me what happened.
01:11:03We walked over to the trailer park.
01:11:05It was like, come on, let's go for a walk.
01:11:07I was like, go walk.
01:11:08I'm like, oh, we got the car. We can just drive.
01:11:10It was like, it was right around the corner.
01:11:12So I was like, f*** it, that's cool.
01:11:14So what happened? How'd it go down?
01:11:18I guess.
01:11:19They saw a couple of guys and then went.
01:11:21Everything just happened too fast for me.
01:11:23So I was in the back with no clue just going along with the s***.
01:11:26Once everything happened, I guess, I run with them.
01:11:29Okay.
01:11:30How many people have firearms that have with you?
01:11:32The only one that I know of.
01:11:34Okay.
01:11:35And is that Jameson?
01:11:36Okay.
01:11:37So...
01:11:38So you did not have a firearm?
01:11:39No, I'm not. I promise you, no.
01:11:40Did Kobe have a firearm?
01:11:41Not that I've been aware of, no.
01:11:42Did Tristan have a firearm?
01:11:43Yeah, I'm sure I know.
01:11:44So I'll say this.
01:11:45All evidence is pointing to Jameson as the one that had the gun.
01:11:47I'm not saying that you're saying that, but all evidence is showing me that.
01:11:49Right.
01:11:50And when are those shots fired?
01:11:51Uh, I guess when we had Steven.
01:11:53And I heard someone was chasing us.
01:11:54I never looked back.
01:11:55I didn't know that it was the gunfire on the side of my head.
01:11:56Okay.
01:11:57So you're fleeing and you hear gunshots as y'all are running away?
01:11:58Yeah.
01:11:59You know bullets don't have names, right?
01:12:00Exactly.
01:12:01I don't.
01:12:02I don't.
01:12:03I don't.
01:12:04I don't.
01:12:05I don't.
01:12:06I don't.
01:12:07I don't.
01:12:08I don't.
01:12:09I don't.
01:12:10I don't.
01:12:11I don't.
01:12:12I don't.
01:12:13I don't.
01:12:14I don't.
01:12:15I don't.
01:12:16I don't.
01:12:17I don't.
01:12:18I don't.
01:12:19I don't.
01:12:20I don't.
01:12:21I don't.
01:12:22I don't.
01:12:23I don't.
01:12:24I don't.
01:12:25I don't know exactly.
01:12:26I understand you did not shoot, but yeah, bullets don't have name.
01:12:29Let me ask you something.
01:12:30Why you may come in here prior to?
01:12:32Once they had murder, I was like I don't even think I must trust Mr.
01:12:35I'm going to die now.
01:12:36All right.
01:12:37We may have to go ahead and just get you transported over to County.
01:12:40Okay?
01:12:49He confirmed that his brother Jameson is the one that had the gun.
01:12:51the one that had the gun and basically told us a story of what happened and it matches up exactly
01:12:58with the scene and what the victim said happened. So it really helps. It really turns the case from
01:13:05a circumstantial case to a really strong case. All right. Christian, you can stand it up.
01:13:12You are being charged with murder.
01:13:14No, you're not doing it. Christian, how old are you, bro? 20, right? Look at me. No, you're not.
01:13:32Okay, well, you had a full life ahead of you.
01:13:36He definitely has some remorse. He's said several times like he's going to kill himself when he gets
01:13:49to jail because his life is over. So like with that, we'll let the jail know and he'll be on
01:13:54suicide watch. You can see that he does understand the foolishness, for lack of a better term, of what
01:14:02they did. The next step would be obviously get Jameson in custody and ideally would get a confession
01:14:11from him as well.
01:14:21Six weeks later, the marshals got him. They zeroed in on the location in Greenville and then got him.
01:14:28Jameson Bryant. He is the fourth suspect, I believe, to be the shooter. They caught him in Greenville,
01:14:33South Carolina. It's about a three-hour drive away from here.
01:14:40That's a good song.
01:14:44You need some water?
01:14:46Sweet tea?
01:14:47I love the sweet tea. We have a bunch of fries, though. You know French fries?
01:14:51Yeah, I take some.
01:14:52French fries? All right.
01:14:53That's a good one.
01:14:53Okay, appreciate it.
01:14:58You say anything or anything?
01:15:08I mean, I didn't ask him a whole lot because I didn't want to get going.
01:15:12He knows the marshals told him what his charges were, so he knows his murder.
01:15:15And he come out of the cell in Greenville singing and rapping.
01:15:20I told him we were coming back and that he was talking to me.
01:15:22I was like, okay.
01:15:23All right, let me go in there.
01:15:28He's pretty cold-hearted. Put the gun in his head and hold the trigger and then go off.
01:15:32He's jammed.
01:15:32Yeah.
01:15:34Frickin' racist.
01:15:35Yeah.
01:15:36I want to talk to you about an incident that happened on the 25th of April.
01:15:41Basically, we know what happened. I'm just trying to get your side of the story.
01:15:44And mainly the question is, were you just there or did you actually fire any shots?
01:15:49That's all what I really want to know.
01:15:51You've been there at all.
01:15:52See, that's the problem. I'm telling you, you're there.
01:16:01What I want to know is, were you just there?
01:16:05With these guys and a shot was fired, was it intentional or an accident?
01:16:09What happens when you're in the trailer park? What happens from your point of view?
01:16:23See, we've been walking through them.
01:16:29One boy ain't out splitting off, so I've been by myself.
01:16:32When I walk off, I ain't not meeting back up with them boys.
01:16:37When then the boys just started running.
01:16:39Who started running?
01:16:40Everybody.
01:16:41The three you're with?
01:16:42Yeah.
01:16:43What are you hearing? Tell me what's going on.
01:16:46I hear somebody start screaming.
01:16:48Did someone in your group start screaming?
01:16:50Uh-huh. Somebody else. I don't know who.
01:16:53I haven't really fully aware what the f*** is going on.
01:16:57Everybody just been in one line when we were running.
01:17:00And then all we hear, well, all I heard was gunshots.
01:17:03I don't know where you come from.
01:17:05I know none of us discharging the firearm.
01:17:11None of y'all discharging the firearm, right?
01:17:13Uh-uh.
01:17:14But these are you, you, right?
01:17:16Right.
01:17:17These are you going in the park, and these are your group running out, right?
01:17:22Correct?
01:17:24I gotcha.
01:17:25Look, the next image is your group firing gunshots.
01:17:32I ain't showing you.
01:17:33And the reason being, you've been lying this entire time right now.
01:17:36I'm not going to play this game.
01:17:37This b***h, like I heard a scream, someone else is shooting.
01:17:40The camera don't lie.
01:17:41The shots are being fired from your group.
01:17:43Now, I don't know if you're being chased, if it's justified.
01:17:46I don't know anything like that.
01:17:48You can only tell that story.
01:17:52Straight up.
01:17:54Uh, I will.
01:17:58Give me an opportunity, to be honest.
01:18:00I know that you were there.
01:18:04I know you were there with this group of guys.
01:18:05I know shots were fired from your group.
01:18:08This is your freaking life.
01:18:10So this is your chance, and I want you to be honest.
01:18:14Can you do that?
01:18:19I got you.
01:18:20When you don't, you're going to run straight to the Star Road.
01:18:36Okay.
01:18:37To the f***.
01:18:39What you call them?
01:18:40Trailer Park.
01:18:41Yeah.
01:18:44I'm walking.
01:18:46Dumbboy, just push up on some dudes.
01:18:48What dudes?
01:18:48How many dudes?
01:18:49Three dudes.
01:18:50Three dudes.
01:18:51So you push up on three dudes.
01:18:52Then what happens with those three guys?
01:18:55Dumbboy just started talking this s***.
01:18:57I wouldn't bother taking this s***.
01:18:59I ain't know.
01:19:00Damn, that's when somebody laid off like two shots.
01:19:04Not somebody.
01:19:04Someone from your group.
01:19:05Yeah, one of them boy laid off.
01:19:07Which one from your group let off the two shots?
01:19:09I don't know, you feel me?
01:19:10Because I ain't paying attention.
01:19:12Well, your group is the one that's shooting the shots, correct?
01:19:15Not them.
01:19:16I don't know.
01:19:17So, f*** me.
01:19:18Straight up.
01:19:19Look.
01:19:20I ain't being honest, bro.
01:19:21All right.
01:19:23I'm going to be honest with you.
01:19:25The video, you let off the shots.
01:19:28100% I know that.
01:19:29It's you.
01:19:30That's not a debate.
01:19:31I just want to know, did you intend to hit anybody?
01:19:35No.
01:19:36So, was this an accident?
01:19:40So, what happened?
01:19:41Why did you fire the shots then?
01:19:42It went off?
01:19:49So, it went off one time, two times?
01:19:51How many times?
01:19:52Huh?
01:19:52Two times.
01:19:53Two times.
01:19:55So, it was an accident when you stumbled and you fired twice.
01:20:00Why'd you fire the other two shots?
01:20:03Yeah, there's two more.
01:20:04You know one of your bullets?
01:20:24Do you know where it went?
01:20:25No.
01:20:26It went through a trailer and there was a Mexican guy sleeping in a bed and went through his head.
01:20:36So, your bullet killed somebody.
01:20:38All right, let me step out for a moment.
01:21:05We'll be right back, all right?
01:21:06There you go.
01:21:10Yeah, it went well.
01:21:12I think realizing that it wasn't a debate, that I had a lot of evidence, he knew he had something on him.
01:21:18So, he might as well just tell his story.
01:21:19He's the shooter.
01:21:20All four of them were going to rob these guys.
01:21:23And during the course of the robbery, he fired shots, which ended up killing an innocent person.
01:21:29Those actions led to him being charged with murder and the other three members of the group being charged with murder.
01:21:35Instead of just armed robbery.
01:21:45Who is this?
01:21:50Oh, my God.
01:22:20This was an act that should have never happened, and now one mother has three of her sons in jail for murder, and the other mother has her son gone forever.
01:22:39But I'm thankful that the mother of the suspect stepped forward and did the right thing.
01:22:44That's unique, and I'm thankful, and I know the family must be thankful towards her for stepping up and doing that, even at the cost of her kids.
01:22:53¿Se acuerda de esta foto?
01:23:05¿Se acuerda de esta foto?
01:23:35Ese fue el primer dÃa que conoció a Mindy.
01:23:43He loved being an uncle.
01:23:45My kids were never without a candy or a lollipop or something, because Uncle Bocho bought it.
01:23:53He was a great guy.
01:23:55Anything we needed, he was always willing to help.
