‘Mahishasur Mardini’ means the slayer of Mahishasur. In this song, Mahishasur is shown not only as a physical demon but also as an idea and nature that comes back in a new form in every era. On one side is Mahishasur who is the symbol of Adharma (unrighteousness) and on the other side is Maa Durga who is the protector of Dharma (righteousness). The way Maa Durga is standing with her trident on Mahishasur's chest shows that no matter how strong Adharma is, it will always be trampled under the feet of Dharma. Mahishasura is not just a body but an idea, thought and nature that we have to fight and defeat.
महिषासुर मर्दिनी का अर्थ है महिषासुर का वध करने वाली। इस गीत में महिषासुर को न केवल एक भौतिक राक्षस के रूप में दिखाया गया है बल्कि एक विचार और प्रकृति के रूप में भी दिखाया गया है जो हर युग में एक नए रूप में वापस आता है। एक तरफ महिषासुर है जो अधर्म का प्रतीक है और दूसरी तरफ माँ दुर्गा हैं जो धर्म की रक्षक हैं। जिस तरह से माँ दुर्गा महिषासुर की छाती पर अपना त्रिशूल गड़ाए खड़ी हैं, उससे पता चलता है कि अधर्म चाहे कितना भी मजबूत क्यों न हो, वह हमेशा धर्म के पैरों तले रौंदा जाएगा। महिषासुर सिर्फ एक शरीर नहीं बल्कि एक विचार, सोच और प्रकृति है जिससे हमें लड़ना है और उसे हराना है।
