00:34ein Land,

00:36Historic Forts
00:37und rich Kultur.
00:41In dieser Episode,
00:42ich werde über Oman's
00:43Iconic landmarks,
00:45ihre drastischen Landschaften
00:47und die historien,
00:48die es ihre Identität gibt.
00:51Erst auf auf meine Reise ist
00:53der Land capital, Muscat.
00:55Es ist zu einem
00:56von Oman's
00:57bekanntlich,
00:58die Sultan Qaboos
01:00Grand Mosque.
01:01Hier,
01:02ich besuche Sepidei,
01:03ein local tour guide.
01:05So Sepidei,
01:06das ist die Grand Mosque.
01:08Was ist die
01:09Signifikanz in Oman?
01:10In Oman.
01:11Actually,
01:12it was a gift
01:13from Sultan Qaboos
01:14to the nation
01:15and it was opened
01:16in 2001.
01:17So,
01:18the entire mosque
01:19can accommodate
01:20up to 20,000
01:21of worshipers.
01:23As we wander around,
01:24Sepidei explains
01:25how the mosque
01:26blends Islamic
01:27and Omani design.
01:28Featuring
01:29a 50-meter
01:30tall dome,
01:3190-meter
01:32minaret
01:33and an array
01:34of arches
01:35and courtyards.
01:36So here we are
01:37inside the Grand Mosque.
01:38It is overwhelming
01:39how huge it is.
01:40And this carpet
01:41is what you notice first.
01:42Exactly.
01:43This is the main highlight
01:45of the mosque.
01:46It was the biggest
01:47hand-woven
01:48one-piece carpet
01:49in the world.
01:50600 people,
01:51they've woven it
01:52in four years.
01:534,200 square meter
01:55and it's 21 town.
01:57The mosque is known
01:58for its open-door policy,
02:00allowing visitors
02:01to explore
02:02during set hours.
02:03It's one of Muscat's
02:04must-see landmarks
02:06and a highlight
02:07for anyone visiting
02:08the capital.
02:10Next up on my tour,
02:11it's time for a spot
02:12of shopping.
02:13We are heading
02:14to Mutra Souk,
02:15one of the oldest
02:16marketplaces
02:17in the world.
02:19The main thing
02:20I would recommend
02:21is the frankincense.
02:22Frankincense.
02:23Frankincense.
02:24They call it Loban,
02:25which is a souvenir
02:26of Oman.
02:27Frankincense comes
02:28from the sap
02:29of local Boswellia trees,
02:30which is steam-distilled
02:31to produce
02:32essential oil.
02:33It traditionally
02:34is burned as incense,
02:36but is also eaten
02:37for its medicinal benefits.
02:43As we travel further
02:44into the soup,
02:45we discover
02:46a whole range of goods
02:47on display,
02:48from cashmere scarves
02:49to traditional clothing
02:50and silver jewelry
02:51priced by weight.
02:55No trip to Oman is complete
02:57without sampling
02:58the local cuisine.
02:59And after a day
03:01spent exploring
03:02the city's most beautiful
03:03corners,
03:04we stop at Ramse restaurant,
03:06where a feast
03:07of delicious dishes awaits.
03:09Camel meat,
03:10which you should have
03:11with Omani bread
03:12and honey.
03:13You're going to try it.
03:14You will love it.
03:15And this is mishkaq,
03:16and that's the mandi chicken.
03:18So which one
03:19are you going to try first?
03:20Which one am I going to try?
03:22I would like to try...
03:24Let's try the shuwa.
03:25The shuwa.
03:26I sample each dish,
03:29savoring the unique flavors
03:30of Omani cuisine
03:31and finish with some sweet treats
03:33before the final stop
03:35on our tour.
03:37Welcome to the Royal Opera House.
03:39Here is the biggest opera house
03:41in GCC
03:42and the third one
03:44in Arab region
03:45after Egypt
03:46and Syria.
03:48I mean, it is very grand.
03:50Look at the space.
03:51Yeah, it's really...
03:52Look at the design,
03:53which is very impressive.
03:55Sepi Day guides me through the Opera House,
03:58highlighting its key features.
04:00The grand entrance,
04:02a remarkable collection
04:03of musical instruments
04:04gifted to the Sultan
04:06and the stunning Theatre Hall.
04:08I can only imagine
04:09how a performance is here
04:10with such a huge venue
04:12and a beautiful stage.
04:14Oman is a country full of history
04:17and so I am heading
04:19to the Oman Across Ages Museum
04:21where I am meeting with Haitham Al-Hina'i,
04:24Cultural Relations Administrator
04:26at the museum.
04:30Oman's history can be divided
04:32into four eras
04:34with the first dating back
04:35over 800 million years ago.
04:37Can you imagine that we have dinosaurs
04:40here in Oman
04:41and also we have elephants.
04:43So many and many animals
04:44do not exist anymore
04:46but in the old days
04:47we have it here in Oman.
04:48So here you are going to see
04:49many evidence.
04:50Can I walk on it?
04:51Yes, you can walk.
04:52It's OK.
04:53I can walk across the ages.
04:55Moving forward to human settlements
04:57in Oman, Haitham explains
04:59how remains found in ancient graves
05:01reveal the daily lives of early settlers,
05:04along with the animal species
05:06that once shared their environments.
05:08So really we are done
05:10from the stone era
05:12and we move to the bronze era.
05:14In bronze era we have
05:16a new civilization
05:18they call it Majan.
05:19And Majan it means
05:21the land of bronze
05:23and it was located
05:24in different era in Oman.
05:27Oman was famous
05:28for its rich copper resources
05:30and advanced shipbuilding skills.
05:32The region played a vital role in trade
05:38exporting copper and stone
05:40to Mesopotamia
05:41and the Indus Valley.
05:44Haitham tells me more
05:46about the country's
05:47ancient dynasties
05:48which were dependent
05:49on Oman's maritime power
05:51building forts
05:53to protect its towns
05:54and trade routes.
05:56Guided by one of the world's
05:58oldest dynasties
05:59the nation later modernized
06:01rapidly under Sultan Caboose.
06:11To experience Oman's history firsthand
06:13I'm visiting Nizwa Fort
06:15one of the country's most iconic landmarks
06:17built in the 17th century
06:19as a home for the ruler of the country
06:21known as the Imam.
06:23I'm meeting with engineer Hatim Ambasiadi
06:27executive director of the fort.
06:29Hatim leads me through the fort's entrance
06:33and while the walk feels effortless
06:35it quickly becomes clear
06:37just how carefully fortified
06:39and strategically designed
06:41this historic stronghold really is.
06:43This is the original
06:46and it's built with the material
06:48we call it here in Oman
06:49Saaruj.
06:50Saaruj.
06:51Yes, it's burned mud
06:52mixed with rocks.
06:53Very strong.
06:55Very strong, yes.
06:56And you have to burn it under
06:58850 degrees
07:00and it takes from 14 to 21 days
07:02to work as strong as a cement.
07:04That's why this fort here
07:06took 12 years to be built.
07:08The fort is a huge circular tower
07:13built on solid rock
07:14could withstand cannon fire
07:16and offered views in every direction.
07:18Inside, narrow corridors, hidden doors
07:21and false staircases
07:23created a clever defence system
07:25to stop intruders.
07:30It's remarkable to imagine the skill
07:32and complexity involved in constructing
07:34such a formidable stronghold.
07:37At the top, sweeping views over Niswa,
07:44date palms and distant mountains
07:46show why this vantage point
07:48was so important for defending the city.
07:58And here you're surrounded by the mountains.
08:00By the mountains, yes.
08:01It's 360 degree views of mountains.
08:03Exactly.
08:04So you have one way in, one way out
08:06so easy to spot the intruders when they come.
08:09Next, we head into the castle.
08:12Once home to rulers and officials
08:14where open living quarters,
08:16meeting rooms and courtyards
08:18reveal how governance and daily life
08:21balance defence and administration.
08:24We also visit the Imam's residence,
08:38whose simple furnishings reflect both leadership and modesty.
08:41Niswa Fort and Castle provide a window into Oman's past,
08:48leaving a lasting impression of the city's history,
08:52culture and enduring spirit.
08:54Oman's natural landscapes are as dramatic as its history.
09:00Tucked between Oman's dramatic cliffs,
09:04Wadi Shab is a hidden oasis,
09:06brimming with turquoise pools and cascading waterfalls.
09:09Today, I'm exploring this natural wonder with Abdullah,
09:13the Oman Raw explorer.
09:15Hey.
09:16Abdullah, hello.
09:17Nice to see you.
09:18Welcome.
09:19Thank you very much.
09:20What incredible scenery behind us.
09:22This is, we are now in Wadi Shab.
09:24So where we will go to see the Wadi.
09:27First, we need to take a boat from here to the other side
09:30and then we will do the hike to the nice pool up there.
09:34To get across the water, we board a boat for a very short ride
09:40before joining a hike that leads through a lush canyon
09:43with shaded paths and natural limestone pools along the way.
09:53Here is the donkey.
09:55The locals use the donkey here for the transportation, you know,
09:59from here up to the old village.
10:01They used to live there, but not anymore.
10:03Though the village is now abandoned,
10:06Wadi Shab remains a magnet for travelers
10:08in search of a hidden mountain oasis.
10:12Strolling past its crystal clear pools,
10:15it's easy to understand why adventurers from around the world
10:18are drawn here.
10:21Some pools are famous for adventure,
10:24like this one which hosted a Red Bull cliff diving competition.
10:28So they come here in 2012, they organized cliff diving,
10:31they jump from this cliff.
10:32Oh, not from here, but from up there.
10:35From up there, yes.
10:36How maybe around 27 meters high, yeah.
10:39Hidden waterfalls, emerald pools and towering cliffs
10:43create a paradise in the heart of Oman.
10:46Along this hike, countless hidden gems await,
10:49with even more stunning Wadi's to explore in the surrounding area.
10:53Something you really can't miss out on when you're in Oman is getting out on their crystal clear waters.
11:01So that's exactly what I'm doing.
11:04I am boarding a small boat operated by GCC Tours, which offers boat trips from Muscat Port.
11:11The sea was beautifully calm and turquoise in color.
11:15As we made our way into the open waters, the captain quickly spotted the dolphins.
11:21Soon we were surrounded by them, their sleek bodies cutting through the water with ease.
11:27The dolphins swam alongside the boat, leaping and diving in smooth, controlled motions.
11:34It was incredible to watch them up close, moving effortlessly through the sea.
11:39Oman is full of surprises.
11:43It's beauty, it's peace and it's people.
11:46And of course, it's dolphins.
11:49There's so much to explore here and I really haven't touched the surface,
11:53but it's time for my next adventure.
