00:00As the race towards the use of low-emission prototypes in Dakar Rally by the year 2030 gained space under the Dakar Future Programme,
00:08a new initiative, the Mission 1000 Challenge, was introduced in 2024.
00:14The purpose of Mission 1000 is to test cutting-edge technologies under Dakar's varied off-road terrain with a total of 1,000 km of special stage.
00:24Participating projects will be categorized into the following groups.
00:28Fully electric, fully hydrogen-powered or hybrid technology engines.
00:34Although non-competitive, the challenge sets defined criteria to rigorously evaluate vehicles and engage participants
00:41with a focus on exploring future technologies for tomorrow's mobility.
00:46Key aspects of these criteria include
00:49Reliability demonstrated by the ability to complete the entire 1,000 km route
00:54Range and autonomy evaluated by the driving mode and pace
00:57Overall vehicle performance through a test at top speed
01:00And the global awareness generated during the race, particularly in showcasing the technology of the vehicles.
01:06Competitors' main mission will be to complete the entire route to score a grand total of 100 points in the challenge
01:12and will miss out on points for each unfinished stage.
01:15For example, if a competitor only completes 48 km of the 96 km in stage 3, they will only yield 50% of the points at stake.
01:25Some bonus points will be awarded to address key criteria.
01:29Drive Mode
01:31Vehicles will be awarded extra points for driving skills depending on how their actual performances stack up against the established reference time.

01:58Each competitor will be required to cover a distance of 200 meters from a standing start.
02:03The competitors achieving the best time on two-wheel vehicles and in four-plus-wheel vehicles will pick up 10 bonus points.
02:11Fan Boost
02:13The riders and drivers registered for Mission 1000 will get regular opportunities to tell their stories and explain the ins and outs of their tech on the Dakar's social media and digital platforms.
02:24During rest day, at the middle of the rally, fans will get to vote for their favorite project.
02:29The fans' favorite project will be awarded 10 bonus points per vehicle after the vote, the second will receive 5 points and the third will receive 2 points.
02:38Battery Switch
02:40Optional
02:41On each stage, competitors have the option to perform a battery change.
02:45The change can only be made at a specific point announced the day before during the daily briefing.
02:50Teams must handle the swap themselves and the race time keeps running.
02:55If a battery change is made, a small penalty of 2 points is applied to the stage result.
03:00As several projects defy the Dakar off-road routes and move closer to maturity,
03:052030 remains the target date for all categories to be racing in low-emission prototypes.
03:10As forever, the Dakar is an open laboratory to test and promote tomorrow's technologies.
