00:00The midpoint of the Celtics' longest road trip of the season has them in the crossroads of the West.
00:06And Jalen Brown is on a mission.
00:09One more 30-point game here in December. He sets multiple Celtics records.
00:13But the Jazz have a major score of their own.
00:16Lowry Markkinen has them playing their best ball of the season.
00:19Celtics Jazz coming at you.
00:30And welcome to the Delta Center here in Salt Lake City.
00:41It's the Celtics' final game of the year 2025, and it comes against the red-hot Utah Jazz.
00:47We can't wait to watch it with you alongside Brian Scalabrini and Abby Chin.
00:50I'm Drew Carter, and Scal, the Jazz have beaten Detroit and San Antonio in their last two games,
00:54and they've already beaten the Celtics this year.
00:56Yeah, and you've got to go back to the beginning of the year, and they did it.
01:00With Keontae George dominating, the guy had 31 in a hard-fought game.
01:04But what really was a separator was the offensive rebounds.
01:08The offensive rebounds hurt the Celtics against Portland.
01:10I feel like they're a better rebounding team right now.
01:12The big nertz on the glass for the game winner.
01:15That was a bad loss for the Seeds.
01:16And the Jazz are playing some really good basketball right now.
01:19And speaking of good basketball, Jalen Brown on a tear.
01:22There's no shot that he doesn't like.
01:24He's got the midi, the pull-up, in the paint, the fadeaway.
01:27He's good in the paint. He plays off one. He plays off two.
01:29He can shoot the three off the bounce. He gets to the corner, and he fades.
01:32Jalen Brown is on a mission.
01:34Will he beat Larry Bird's record of 30 points for nine straight games?
01:38Find out tonight.

02:12All right, Coach, man, I went back and looked at the last time you guys played them.
02:16Very strange game.
02:17Did you take anything from that game, all the mysteries, you know, with how they played, and take it into this game?
02:23Yeah, I mean, it was a tale of kind of two games.
02:25You know, I think we played with the lead.
02:27We were playing some really good basketball.
02:28And then, you know, it's the things that go into the process of winning, closing out quarters.
02:31We didn't close out the third quarter very well.
02:34But then we did a great job battling back and getting into a, you know, into, I think even took the lead or a one-possession game.
02:39And, you know, it came down to some execution and some rebounding stuff.
02:42So, it just, regardless of how, you know, separate the last time you played a team, it was just always a process that you have to have.
02:47We've got to do a great job closing quarters.
02:48We've got to do a better job on Keontae George.
02:50He does a great job getting to the free throw line and drawing fouls.
02:53Jalen Brown's on a crazy tear.
02:55He scored 30 in every game in December.
02:57The other day in the first half, he had it going.
02:59And do you just, like, kind of back up and just let them and the players decide how that's going to unfold?
03:04Yeah, I mean, I think the one thing I trust is JB wants to win more than anything else.
03:09And so, I think you just trust that.
03:11And, you know, the process that he goes into putting us in position to win every night may look a little bit different.
03:16Lately, it's looked like the scoring, and that's great.
03:18That's what the team needs.
03:19You know, he's done it defensively.
03:20He's done it rebounding.
03:21So, really, you just trust the guys.
03:22You trust Jalen's mindset where winning is the most important thing.
03:26And then we just kind of take it from there.
03:27Appreciate the time.
03:28Thanks.
03:28The Celtics looking to close out the year in style with a win against the feisty Jazz.
03:40Brown mixing him up the step back.
03:43Oh, yeah!
03:45A 30-piece again!
03:47Great to him.
03:47He's so special, and he can kind of just score on anybody in this league at will.
03:52So, great having him as a teammate for sure.
03:54Brown, the high gather.
03:55That is sick.
03:56Obviously, you know, we depend on him a lot.
03:59You know, playmaking, scoring.
04:00You can shoot it from all three levels.
04:02Athletic, strong, and got a good handle on the pull-up game.
04:06Should be in the MVP conversation for sure.
04:08Brown still has the rock.
04:09The step back.
04:11Oh, yeah!
04:11Jalen Brown, you are that guy.
04:15Oh, just take it from the guys who play with him.
04:20Jalen Brown having a special stretch.
04:22The starting lineups are brought to you by Jordan's Furniture.
04:25Update your home with 15% off all furniture and mattresses going on for a limited time.
04:30That's Celtics starting five.
04:32Second-best defensive rating among any starting lineup that's played at least as many minutes as them.
04:36For the Jazz, Bryce Sensabaugh is a great three-point shooter.
04:39Of course, the same for Lowry Markkinen.
04:41And Keontae George is playing out of his mind lately.
04:44Key matchup is presented by Subaru of New England.
04:47Fall in love with a brand-new all-wheel drive Subaru.
04:49So, two guys that score big, but they do them differently.
04:53Jalen Brown will be in his bag.
04:55Lowry Markkinen, one of the best catch-and-shoot guys or attack off of a pin-down.
05:00Really looking forward to this matchup.
05:02And Markkinen second in the league in catch-and-shoot points this year.
05:05Who's first?
05:06Take some time and think about it.
05:08It would be like a little trivia question for the folks at home.
05:11Not Steph Curry.
05:13We'll answer it later on in the show.
05:14Remind me to come back to that.
05:15For now, though, let's look at the health report by South Coast Health.
05:19Providing exceptional care from people who care.
05:23Chris Boucher still out with a personal reason.
05:25So, if everything's okay with him.
05:27For the Jazz, Walker Kessler's out for the season.
05:29Ace Bailey still day-to-day their top-five pick.
05:33And then Kevin Love is resting.
05:36All right, here's what I got today.
05:39Peyton Pritchard is going to be huge.
05:42First of all, Jazz don't guard.
05:44Second, Pritchard played terrible in his homecoming in Portland.
05:48That guy has more bounce back than a racquetball.
05:51That's pretty good, Scott.
05:54You come up with it.
05:55On the fly, I just came up with it.
05:57Not bad.
05:58I might steal that one.
05:59Jazz control the opening tip.
06:01Utah winners of two in a row against Detroit and San Antonio.
06:05Two of the best teams in the league.
06:06Oh, Walsh can't secure the rebound.
06:09It'll stay here.
06:10James Williams is the crew chief with Scott Twardoski.
06:12Twardoski, Michael Smith.
06:17Experienced, officiated crew.
06:19Jazz haven't played since Saturday.
06:20That's when they went to San Antonio and ended the Spurs' eight-game win streak.
06:24White with an early block on the seven-footer mark.
06:27And George got it back and scored the first two.
06:29Man, we're like scrambling around.
06:31We're not getting these loose balls.
06:32Start the game.
06:32I hate when you start a game like that.
06:35It gives the other team a lot of confidence.
06:39For the Celtics, they had won four in a row until they lost at Portland on Sunday.
06:46Pritchard finds an open white in the corner.
06:48Off the back of the rim, and Taylor Hendricks snares the rebound.
06:52Hendricks, a top-ten pick a couple of years ago out of UCF.
06:57Here's Markkanen.
06:59Almost 28 a night for him.
07:01Kata attacks Namiya Shkata and earns himself a trip to the line.
07:05I don't know why this is a foul.
07:08It felt like he went straight up.
07:10Did he hit him on the arm?
07:12We were about 100 feet away.
07:13So he goes straight up right there.
07:17Maybe he got him on the arm.
07:21Markkanen better than 90% from the line this season.
07:25He's top ten in the league in minutes, points, field goals,
07:28free throws made, and free throw percentage.
07:30He's tough.
07:31And you see, when he's on the court, the Jazz are a little worse than league average.
07:36When he's off the court, they're abysmal.
07:37I always will like him because when he was drafted by the Bulls, he called me up and said,
07:45Cal, can I wear your number 24?
07:48Come on, man.
07:49Showing respect.
07:50Of course.
07:51He's going to pay homage to the legends.
07:53And what did you say?
07:55Hell yeah.
07:57Surprised you even responded.
07:59There's Kata.
08:00Drops it in.
08:01Well played, Drew.
08:02Well played.
08:03If he had texted you, then he never would have had the number.
08:05No, it wasn't text.
08:05It wasn't text.
08:06It wasn't.
08:07I responded.
08:07Wow.
08:08I almost hit him with an L-O-L.
08:12That's a tough shot.
08:13A short roll into a floater, it's a tough shot.
08:17Very Isaiah Hartenstein-ish.
08:19Good call.
08:20Jordan Walsh missed the three.
08:22Hartenstein, by the way, just got hurt for the Thunder.
08:26Some interesting happenings in the West lately, including these Jazz with the two big wins.
08:31Jeez.
08:32A really tough shot.
08:34I didn't even think he would ever step through from like 20 feet.
08:39Brown looking to assert himself.
08:40Gets inside and scores.
08:42How strong is he?
08:44See him gather, his body's flying off of him.
08:51Now George again in attack mode.
08:55Can I think George was questionable with an illness?
08:58Definitely not questionable right now.
09:00I don't know what they gave him.
09:02Maybe they went over to Swig and got him some soda.
09:04Here's Kata.
09:05Wanted a foul.
09:06Finishes from the left side with the right hand.
09:08Well, if he did get that swig soda, he'll be falling off in the second quarter.
09:13A little sugar rush here.
09:19George with six to lead the way.
09:21He's showing you every tool in his repertoire early.
09:24Two and a half minutes in the Jazz with a four-point lead.
09:28Brown trying to get to his spot against Hendricks.
09:31That was impressive defense.
09:35That's one of those things where I didn't know he's a good defender, but watching that possession, he's probably a good defender.
09:406'9", 215, Taylor Hendricks.
09:48Pritchard chasing around George.
09:51Back to the big man.
09:52Nurkic just kind of flings it up there.
09:54See if Joe lets these guys figure it out on the fly.
09:57Right now we're not playing.
09:58I mean, I guess the defense isn't that bad.
10:00They're just making tough shots.
10:01Walsh from the corner.
10:07Good pass from Brown, but shot wouldn't go.
10:13Mark it in.
10:14Keita says don't come in here.
10:16Offensive rebound ends up with Nurkic.
10:19And he cashes out for three.
10:20And there's a timeout for Joe Mazzula.
10:23The Jazz with a hot start.
10:24Yeah, the Jazz have been hot offensively with the last two games with big wins.
10:29They start the game the exact...
10:30Celtics All-Star voting is presented by Vestaprint.
10:33Head to celtics.com slash vote to cast your ballot.
10:36Here's to the doers presented by Honeydew.
10:38Level up your coffee game with crazy caramel.
10:42Celtics Nation needs to level up.
10:44The first round of returns for fan voting are in.
10:47And Jalen Brown is currently on the outside looking in at the top five.
10:52He's got the sixth most votes not too far back from Donovan Mitchell.
10:55But there's a lot of ground to make up when it comes to Giannis and Tyrese Max.
11:00See, Jalen Brown himself called it a PR contest on Twitter.
11:05And it is one that he is losing at the moment.
11:08And it's just not right.
11:09How is this possible?
11:10JB, nine straight games, 30-plus points.
11:13Reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
11:15Leading a top three team in the East.
11:18Doing it efficiently.
11:20Making his teammates better.
11:21I could go on.
11:22And you cannot tell me JB is not one of the top five guys in the Eastern Conference.
11:28True.
11:28I don't believe it.
11:30Sounds good to me, Abby.
11:32Hey, I voted for him.
11:34I used that three for one.
11:35Did you?
11:36Of course I did.
11:37Brown off the mark on a three.
11:38He was 0 for 9 from downtown against the Jazz at the Garden in early November.
11:43A game Utah won, 105-103.
11:46George on a triple.
11:48Smart play by Markkyn.
11:50Push the ball, kick it back out.
11:52That's going to be a walk-in three for Keontae George.
11:54I told you, JB 0 for 9 from downtown.
11:56He's still at 36 points in that game.
11:58Pritchard from downtown.
12:01It's the Celtics' first long ball.
12:02There we go, Pritch.
12:04You're my step-up guy.
12:05Yeah, you're trying to sneak in a step-up guy.
12:06I am really trying to step up.
12:08Somebody's got to step up.
12:09Jazz are on fire right now.
12:12They might be too on fire for Danny and Austin Ainge's liking as Sensabaugh too strong.
12:20The Jazz first-round pick this year is top eight protected as a result of a Derek Favors salary dump with Oklahoma City a few years ago.
12:28So, yes, if the Jazz are too good, the Thunder will get another first-round pick.
12:31Come on, guys.
12:34Brown off the heel.
12:35We can't have that.
12:36Yeah.
12:36The whole league's got to chip in and make sure that doesn't happen.
12:39Do everyone a favor.
12:40The whole league's got to step up and make sure OKC doesn't get another first-round pick.
12:45Oh, my gosh.
12:47And in case you're wondering, that was about five months before Danny Ainge got here because he never would have made that trade.
12:53Come on.
12:54Pritchard thought about it.
12:57So, puts the ball on the deck, gives it up to Brown.
12:59He's got the matchup he likes against the big man, Nurkic.
13:02Making a move, his feet.
13:04Brown muscles it up against the seven-footer.
13:06And his balance, strength, ability to get hit by a guy but keep your composure.
13:11Especially Nurkic, who checks in.
13:16290 listed.
13:18That feels conservative.
13:20Here's Markkinen.
13:22Midranger, no.
13:23Nurkic offensive board.
13:25Here's a three.
13:26And Markkinen drills it.
13:28If Nurkic get an assist for that, he can never go in there, Markkinen's catching shoe points.
13:33He does get an assist for that.
13:34And his third.
13:35Brown, straight on.
13:37It's good.
13:38His first made three against the Jazz this year.
13:44Seven points for number seven.
13:46Of course, we're keeping an eye on that.
13:49He gets to 30.
13:50His tenth in a row, Celtics record.
13:53Deontay George is on his way to 30.
13:54He's got 12 already.
13:56Midway point of the first quarter.
13:59We have to just pick up our defensive intensity just a bit.
14:03Just make it a little uncomfortable for them.
14:06Pritchard sneaks inside.
14:07Lock it up.
14:08Kato throw it down.
14:09That's what you want to do with Nurkic.
14:11You want to get him into drop coverage.
14:12Because he's not athletic enough when you throw it up to make that play.
14:16There are some bigs that can back up and tip that ball away.
14:19Nurkic's not one of them.
14:21Sensabaugh turns the corner.
14:23Does not get the roll.
14:24Kato bats it over to Pritchard.
14:28Jazz are 29th in the league on defense this year.
14:31Defensive rating better than only the Wizards.
14:33But they're 12th in offense, and that's been on the way up as Kato shows you the good touch.
14:37Yeah, they've had some miserable losses early.
14:44But, like, this Jazz team right now is really good.
14:48This guy has the head of the snake.
14:50Deontay George might have gotten hit in the face.
14:52He's down on the baseline on the other side.
14:54Celtics have numbers.
14:56Pritchard looking to take advantage.
14:58Got himself in some traffic.
15:00Missoula wanted a foul.
15:01George is still down.
15:03Markin and coming that way.
15:04Banks it home.
15:05Real hard is cool just playing.
15:09Oh, my God.
15:10What are we doing?
15:12Five on four, and Markin scored twice.
15:15Yeah, Joe Missoula's going to take a timeout.
15:18Deontay George was sitting on the other baseline for both of those buckets.
15:22I don't know what's up right now, man.
15:24We're looking really shaky.
15:26Ten-point lead for Utah.
15:28Joe's taking two timeouts already.
15:31Brian Hoyer and David Andrews give their takes on the AFC East champion Patriots.
15:35as they prepare for their final regular season game.
15:38It's presented by FW Webb.
15:39Dependable solutions for pros since 1866.
15:44Man, want to start by the Utah Jazz.
15:46Starting with that guy right there, Deontay George.
15:51Yeah, 12 points for him.
15:52Yeah, anywhere he wants to on the floor.
15:55We've got to pick up our defensive intensity.
15:59Yeah, he's a real contender for most improved player this year.
16:01His efficiency is way up.
16:04He's improved as the season's gone on.
16:06Season numbers at the moment, more than 24 points and almost seven assists a game.
16:10Those numbers even better recently.
16:14Cody Williams is out there for Utah.
16:15Another high draft pick by Danny Ainge.
16:19Luka Garza and Sam Hauser and Anfernee Simons in the game for the Sucks.
16:23Pritchard, that's tough.
16:25Great clock, though.
16:26We've got to get into the teeth of the defense.
16:28This defense is not that good.
16:30So you should be able to get to the paint with no resistance.
16:33Kyle Filipowski and Isaiah Collier also out there.
16:37Sensibov.
16:38Good contest by Hauser who leaks out.
16:41Simons running the break.
16:42Here's Pritchard.
16:44He's feeling it.
16:49Peyton Pritchard did not shoot the ball well Sunday in his homecoming game in Portland.
16:54Sensibov goes to the rack.
16:58We're just on our heels a little bit.
17:01This is a trend lately for the Celtics in the first quarter.
17:06Oh, come on.
17:06Pritchard gives it up for Garza and he makes it.
17:09It worked out.
17:10I can't believe Pritchard passed.
17:12Yes, either can I.
17:15You see the Jazz.
17:17Not good defending the three-point arc.
17:19More than 15 threes a game.
17:21They allow the worst in the league.
17:22George draws the foul.
17:24It's on Pritchard.
17:26All right, look.
17:27Sensibov.
17:28We're just on our heels a bit.
17:29You see that contact?
17:31It's a big-body bends move.
17:33Two shots, Ben.
17:33I've got some skilled offensive guys.
17:38You know, they don't look like the 29th worst defense in the league.
17:44You got some guys who can pick up.
17:46Yeah, it's like, but the way we're playing right now, we're just playing on the perimeter.
17:50You got to get into the teeth of the defense.
17:52Like, that last position, like, I thought Pritchard should have shot it.
17:54He made the extra pass and it worked out.
17:56But when you get to the teeth of the defense, that's when they're not going to rotate out.
18:01Teams that are that bad defensively usually struggle in rotation.
18:05Not necessarily on the ball.
18:07So, if you can get inside, they're going to overreact.
18:10Now you can fly it around and get an open look.
18:13The Jazz played a fast-paced third fastest in the league.
18:17They score a lot of points, but they also give up a lot of points.
18:21Here is Brown.
18:21Hooks it inside.
18:22Nice find for Garza.
18:26And Luka Garza's advanced metrics off the charts since he came back into the rotation.
18:31I mean, he's been dominant on the offensive last.
18:34That play right there, it might be a snapshot of what they're trying to do with Jalen,
18:38which is double-team him on those chicken rolls.
18:43Garza secures the rebound as the Celtics have cut this to six.
18:47Inside a three in the opening frame.
18:49Brown, bailed out by Simons as it falls right to him.
18:54Hmm.
18:54Bullet pass taken away by George.
18:57Celtics caught it up 19 times in Portland as Filipowski doesn't get the roll.
19:06Celtics in the last four first quarters outscored big time.
19:11And all of it's Hauser taps it in.
19:13That's a good sign.
19:14I always love when great shooters get something easy.
19:17Backdoor transition, offensive rebound.
19:20Could open it up for Sam Hauser.
19:26Sends the ball with Garza in the drop coverage.
19:28Missed the shot.
19:30Two minutes left in the first.
19:32There is Brown.
19:36Filipowski defending him, but defending might be generous.
19:41J.B. gets fouled.
19:42It's a block.
19:43J.B.'s down.
19:44Grabbing that.
19:46Shoulder or wrist?
19:47This is unreal body control.
19:57Look at it.
19:57There's the crossover.
19:58Watch him shift over to the right.
20:01And when he falls, it's the deck.
20:03Celtics fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
20:13A lot of green in the house tonight.
20:14Oh, yeah.
20:15Oh, yeah.
20:15It's not jazz green.
20:16It's Celtics green.
20:18All right, let's take a look.
20:20How he hits his hand on the floor.
20:22All right, two shots, guys.
20:22Mm, tough.
20:27All of his body weight came down on that hand-wrist area.
20:31All right, good.
20:33Man, I like those new 7-4-1s he's rocking.
20:38They got a little gold, some teal, some pink.
20:44And the best part is you can see him from all the way up here.
20:47Yeah, look at those.
20:49How many colorways is he having?
20:51You know what?
20:52Abby, you did that all-star voting.
20:54Those are his all-star kicks right there.
20:56They got a little extra sauce.
21:00I like those gold ones he was wearing when the Celtics had the city editions on.
21:03Those were nice.
21:07Kids will like those.
21:09You know, kids in the AAU circuit, they wear the 7-4-1s.
21:13People say they got it, and all the kids kind of like them.
21:16You got to work on a deal for Team White Mamba.
21:20They're, uh, well, I want a deal just for myself.
21:23But they're too small.
21:25I need a bigger size.
21:27Jalen's people.
21:28Give me a 17.
21:3016 is not going to work.
21:32Shameless.
21:32Here is George.
21:36Gets a step.
21:37In the paint again.
21:39Can make a lot of shots from a lot of difficult angles.
21:42Missed that one.
21:43Celtics can tie it with a deep one.
21:45White's going to try it.
21:47Simon's the offensive board.
21:49Reload for White.
21:50Missed it again.
21:51Collier with a little jelly in transition.
22:01Isaiah Collier, second-year pro from USC.
22:04Teammates with Bronny.
22:06Brown is blocked by Markkinen.
22:08Collier hitting the Jets.
22:10Out to George.
22:16George has cooled off a little bit after his hot start.
22:19Now, 5 for 10 overall.
22:22Garza to catch and finish and one.
22:26Jalen Brown threw that like an alley-oop.
22:28Garza knows exactly how to handle those.
22:32Oh, that is a sweet play.
22:35Garza does a great job of getting out of those screens quick.
22:38Jalen Brown threw him a lob.
22:39Garza said, I don't know what to do with those lobs.
22:45Just put a little more air under that one.
22:47I don't know how you have to handle that with Garza.
22:50You're playing Madden.
22:51Instead of holding the button, you just tap it so it's a lob pass.
22:56All I know is Garza checked in and we're back in this game.
22:59So whether he can dunk or not, he's a winning player.
23:03And J.B. not getting any extra medical attention on the bench.
23:08He takes his seat as Filipowski puts it in the former Duke Blue Devil.
23:13He played his high school ball at Wilbraham and Munson.
23:16Western Mass.
23:17Hauser, catch and release.
23:22Garza, obviously ridiculous on the offensive boards.
23:26White just can't find it right now.
23:28Garza almost had another one.
23:30And here comes George with the shot clock turned off.
23:32And the Jazz already at 36 in this opening quarter.
23:36When they played in Boston, the Jazz had 36 in the entire first half.
23:41And they've got more than that in the first quarter here.
23:46Keontae George with 15 points.
23:48White, it'll count.
23:50Comes up short.
23:52And it's a seven-point lead for Utah.
23:54It could have been a lot worse.
23:56When Garza checked in the game, he walked down that lead.
23:59He did a really good job, but we eventually got to play some defense.
24:03Yeah, the Garzilla has eight points for the Celtics who trail by seven after one.
24:09Game three of a five-game road trip.
24:11No yet this winter, but they can still skate.
24:22That looks fun.
24:23That does look a lot of fun.
24:24Apollo Ono out there.
24:25Scoreboard brought to you by Toyota's official website for deals.
24:29Buyatoyota.com.
24:30That's Drew showing off.
24:32Apollo Ono, baby.
24:33What you know about Apollo Ono?
24:35We worked at Home Depot.
24:36I knew that.
24:37Saw him on the commercial.
24:38There you go.
24:39Stats by Jason Stone Injury Lawyers.
24:41Official Injury Law Firm of the Boston Celtics.
24:43Injured?
24:44Better phone stone.
24:44Right now, all jazz offensively, but we're fortunate.
24:48With that shot right there, come on, we're only down by four.
24:50So I think we're really fortunate to be in this position right now.
24:56And being told that Apollo Ono actually skated here in the Olympics.
25:00Oh, nice.
25:01And then he went to Home Depot.
25:02Called him to the lumber department.
25:03That he did.
25:04Yeah.
25:05That's where I gave my lumber money.
25:07Cody Williams with a miss.
25:09But yeah, you're right.
25:10Scout of Celtics.
25:11Really chipped away.
25:12That's true.
25:13Hauser from the corner.
25:14Shout out to Ugo Gonzalez.
25:17In transition.
25:18Bullet pass.
25:18No dribble.
25:19Up the floor.
25:20Bang.
25:21And just like that, the Celtics within one.
25:25Filipowski.
25:26Oh, Kata.
25:28What a rejection.
25:31Weak side help from Nimi.
25:32He got another one.
25:34Collier might have lost the handle, but incredible.
25:38Simons with a head of steam.
25:39Stripped by Walter Clayton Jr.
25:41Good play by the rookie.
25:43Jazz ball.
25:47Look at Kata lurking in the back.
25:50Rises up.
25:51Get it out.
25:54Well, Nimi had eight points in the first quarter,
25:56which ties a career best for a first quarter.
25:59Same for Keontae Georgiou at 15.
26:02And Luka Garza also.
26:05Highest scoring first quarter.
26:07Of his career with eight points.
26:11Kata back on the floor at the five right now for Joe Mazzula.
26:14Contesting the shot from Sensabaugh.
26:17Good box out from Hauser on Markkinen.
26:19And Filipowski knocked it out of bounds.
26:21Wait a minute.
26:21Did you just say, Keontae Georgiou tied.
26:24Kata tied.
26:25And Garza had the best quarter of his life?
26:27Yes.
26:28That's what happens with these Jazz, man.
26:30Points for everybody.
26:31Wow.
26:31Simon's trying to heat up.
26:37But how about the Celtics centers in the first quarter?
26:40Yeah.
26:40Each with eight points.
26:42Help that the C's eliminate that deficit.
26:44Markkinen.
26:45That was nasty.
26:46Yeah, that was nasty.
26:48Almost made the shot.
26:49Here's Collier.
26:52He'll try it.
26:53George!
26:54At the top of the backboard.
26:56White claims the rebound.
27:00Two boards.
27:01A couple assists for Derek White.
27:03Still hasn't scored.
27:04Hauser a nice feed.
27:05Oh, no!
27:05Just a little bit out of sync there.
27:10And then White contesting the shot.
27:12Ugo was on the baseline.
27:13No!
27:13He got rid of it.
27:15He had the ball.
27:16Oh, I'd like to see that.
27:17According to Scott Twardoski.
27:19I'd like to see that.
27:23And Will Hardy.
27:24I felt like he got rid of it.
27:26Ugo has sick instincts.
27:29That kick ahead to Hauser in that play right there.
27:32That guy's awesome.
27:32Austin, you spent 17 years in Boston.
27:37Did a little bit of everything from the head coach in Maine
27:39to player development in the front office.
27:42How did that experience prepare you
27:44to be the president of basketball operations here?
27:47I owe everything to the Celtics.
27:49And the people there learned so much from everybody.
27:51They're still some of my best friends.
27:53And I'm very grateful for everything they taught me.
27:56How's it going here?
27:58It's going great.
27:58We've had some guys make some real steps.
28:00See Keontae George is having an all-star level season.
28:03Lowry Marketing continues to play at that level.
28:06It's been fun.
28:07You took over this summer.
28:09Where was this team at?
28:10And what does the future hold?
28:12Yeah, we're really young.
28:14We've got a long way to go to catch up with the Celtics.
28:16But we've got some young, exciting pieces to do it.
28:19No question.
28:20To the Celtics detriment so far tonight.
28:22This was a special team and a special year.
28:25And you had both Joe Mazzula and Will Hardy on the bench for the green.
28:30What did you see in those young coaches?
28:32Oh, they're both such great coaches.
28:34And they're very different personalities.
28:37But they're very smart.
28:38And they work really hard.
28:40And, you know, we have Justin Mazzula, Joe's brother, on our coaching staff.
28:44And Justin's the better basketball player and could beat him in MMA.
28:47So I just had to get that on the air.
28:49Absolutely.
28:50Because we're not allowed to ask Joe about his brother.
28:52He does not want to talk about that.
28:55Austin, thank you so much.
28:56We're so glad to see you and happy for you and your success.
28:59Great to see you.
29:00Hi, Drew.
29:01Hi, Scal.
29:01What's up, Austin?
29:02What's up, Austin?
29:03Hey, Abby, ask him where he got the jacket.
29:06Number one, Drew likes your jacket.
29:07I want to know, skiing or golf?
29:10What's better?
29:11Oh, well, I've got a lot of learning to do on the skiing.
29:15I'm still a golfer.
29:15But I'm going to have to give it a try.
29:17My 10-year-old wants to get out there.
29:18So I'm going to do it.
29:20All right.
29:20We're looking forward to it, Austin.
29:21Thank you.
29:22It's amazing.
29:22Drew's up here.
29:24He gassed up Austin's jacket even before he brought it up.
29:27Yeah.
29:27I totally, you're going to order that thing.
29:29We're going to see it on air.
29:30That's why I need Abby to ask him where he got it.
29:32I'm trying to let Austin Ainge be an influencer here.
29:35It's the jacket.
29:36It's the jacket.
29:39He's great.
29:40We miss him in Boston, of course.
29:42Always great with us.
29:44Oh, my gosh.
29:45It's your day.
29:46Good solid.
29:47Ugo living right.
29:49Who makes a shot like that?
29:52I think the angels are watching Ugo and saying, man, we should have got him.
29:56Exactly.
29:57Which one of you guys passed up on this guy?
30:00Yeah.
30:02Abby should have asked him about that eighth pick.
30:05Top eight protective.
30:06How you like sweating out these wings?
30:08Yeah, what would the question be?
30:09When are you going to open up the garage?
30:11Yeah, yeah.
30:12How, how, uh, when he starts sweating about this eighth protective, or top eight protective
30:15pick?
30:16Yeah.
30:17They're right on that border right now.
30:20Sensabaugh missed to three.
30:22Celtics have their first lead of the game.
30:23Anfernee Simons, a big contributor to that.
30:27He's got four rebounds already, and he's getting himself to the line here.
30:34All right, you can, you know Ugo's living right.
30:37He's getting his rest at night because you make this shot.
30:39Watch it clip the backboard right there.
30:42Oh, life is good.
30:43It was a good look from the dunking cam.
30:45It's all about the dunk.
30:52You know, I said this in the pregame show, but do you agree that in order to address tanking
30:58in the NBA, a good way to do it would be no more protections on picks in trades?
31:03Yeah, I always feel like when I talk to somebody that's really smart, they always have a reason
31:10why it can't be fixed.
31:12You know what I mean?
31:13So, I, I just say, yeah, you're right.
31:16That would be a good way of not tanking.
31:17I'm that way, too.
31:18But I think other people, people feel like there's, it's just a, such a hard thing to
31:24fix.
31:25The system is what the system is.
31:27If you get rid of pick protections, it might get rid of some trades, which people like.
31:31But, I don't know, I feel like it'd be worth it.
31:34You see, see it every year, I feel like, where there's a team that's trying to protect their
31:37pick.
31:38I just don't like it when, like, fans come to, if Derek White knocks down a shot, something's
31:43doing well now.
31:44Fans come to see a team play, and, like, watching teams lose is so good for anybody.
31:49But, that's the NBA in late March and April for some teams, and it's unfortunate, but I
31:56think the playoffs make everyone forget that.
31:57You see, the second quarter has been all Celtics after the Jazz put up 38 in the opening 12
32:04minutes.
32:06Hendricks gets the pass.
32:07Clayton.
32:09Shot clock gets late.
32:10Good contest from Shireman.
32:12Great defense from the scenes.
32:13Yeah, all across the board.
32:14Everyone rotating.
32:16Good job by Garza on the glass.
32:19Garza and Shireman last four games have huge net rating pluses.
32:23Here's Luka from the corner.
32:24It's Cash.
32:26Man's playing out of his mind right now.
32:28Making shots, setting great screens, rebounding the ball, defending.
32:33Winning player.
32:34Look how much things have changed since he checked in.
32:36He is a plus 13 tonight.
32:39Last four games, plus 28 per 100 possessions.
32:42Clayton is a really good player.
32:44Most outstanding player for Florida in the National Championship this year.
32:48Still just four points for Utah in the quarter, though, as White gets it to fall.
32:57And he's fouled.
33:01Man, if I'm a guard, I just love Garza.
33:03Just the way he sets screens.
33:05This time a guy goes underneath.
33:07But you have, because he knocked down two shots, Nurkic can't be in the coverage.
33:14That's awesome.
33:15Derek White with a tough shot.
33:18So, the NBA has changed a lot.
33:24And teams are going away from pick and roll.
33:27But if you watch the way that Garza does it, and the way that he flies into screens, goes screens, taps screens, gets out of screens, short roll.
33:35Him doing all that, I'm just saying it from my perspective, I would hate to have to guard that.
33:40I like it when guys dribble, and the guy comes up and touch the screen, and everyone's stationary.
33:45Garza makes it impossible to, like, get any type of body on the ball.
33:51There is Hendricks for three as the Jazz tried to dig out of this hole.
33:57The Celtics have put him in in the second quarter.
33:59But Garza, in terms of quantity and quality of screens, is remarkable.
34:04I mean, it feels like he sets three or four on one possession.
34:07Gonzalez with the step back, marking in the rebound.
34:11I mean, he just has an unreal feel for it.
34:17Here's Clayton on a three.
34:19Again, Shireman with the contest, and Ugo with the rebound.
34:24White's stopping by.
34:27Shireman hits it out.
34:28Hendricks secures it.
34:30Three on two for Utah.
34:32What the hell?
34:33What was that?
34:38What was that?
34:40Out of nowhere, even the Jazz bench is surprised.
34:44Kevin Love's like, he got that?
34:46What was that?
34:48He's got it like that?
34:49Not even his teammates knew he had it like that.
34:53What was that?
34:55I mean, we're thinking he's going to lay it up.
34:57He goes to the leader against Derek White.
35:00Oh, man.
35:03Listen, I'm not the only one surprised.
35:04Look at Kevin Love.
35:07Mr. TQ model.
35:08Is that Kevin Love, or is that a model for Blue De Chanel?
35:12What's going on here?
35:15That was a shocker.
35:19Is it like the elevation here in Salt Lake that's giving him extra bounce?
35:24I mean, you watch him in college.
35:26Yeah, I never saw that.
35:28That's crazy, man.
35:30They're 4,500 feet here.
35:35He just went to the summits.
35:37Jeez.
35:38He just shouted out, they're Australians.
35:41Yeah.
35:43Doing some good work with you.
35:45Markkanen is such a good catch-and-shoot player.
35:48That might be a two-point field goal.
35:49I'm just showing off because I'm 100 feet away, and I think it's going on the line.
35:52Oh, man.
35:55A steal for a moment.
35:56Shireman got it back, but threw it to Markkanen.
36:00Here is Lowry Markkanen.
36:01Jazz can tie or take the lead.
36:03George back in there.
36:05Clayton, what's he going to do this time?
36:06Oh, Markkanen.
36:14Thought he was fouled.
36:17Pritchard ends up with a rebound, and Joe Mazzula.
36:20Yeah, I'm with Joe.
36:21This group checked back in, and the energy just went down.
36:25I'm with Joe on this one.
36:26We've got to pick up our energy.
36:28Two-point game here in Utah.
36:30Joe Mazzula.
36:30This is the last game of 2025, and I think we can all agree.
36:34One of the brightest spots of the last year for the green,
36:38selecting Ugo Gonzalez with the 28th pick in the NBA draft.
36:42I'm not sure many of us knew what to expect from the 19-year-old,
36:45but all he does is provide electric moments.
36:48Presented by Audi.
36:49Visit your New England Audi dealer today.
36:51Still locks the relentless motor, defensive instincts,
36:55with that maturity.
36:56Ugo putting it all on display.
36:58He leads all rookies in plus-minus with an unthinkable plus-122.
37:04The adjustment from the Spanish Pro League has been seamless.
37:07Ugo telling us this morning he feels comfortable and confident
37:10on and off the floor.
37:12I expect much more Ugo in the new year.
37:16He's been awesome.
37:17I don't know what they got going on in the Spanish League
37:19for him to play three minutes a game.
37:22They messed that one up.
37:23Well, they still won the championship.
37:24I guess you can't question the coach, right?
37:28Yeah, it's good when you rail Madrid.
37:30Yeah, it's like Steve Kerbich and Tatum, but they win the gold.
37:32Yeah, exactly.
37:33It's exactly like that.
37:35You know, Ugo's fellow rail Madrid youth program teammate,
37:41Yegor Gioman, played his college ball here in Utah.
37:44Yeah.
37:44Provo.
37:46Got that bag to go here.
37:47Yeah, it sounds like they also wanted Ugo, potentially.
37:50You do hear, like, today the NCAA said no NBA players can come back to college.
37:55Yeah, but I'm confused about that.
37:56But dudes that are overseas, that are pros, can come to college.
38:00It's a mess.
38:02The NCAA said they can't figure it out.
38:04Well, I don't know if that guy James Dodger won.
38:07You know what we should start?
38:07Celtic University.
38:08That's what we should start.
38:10I'll take those guys against anybody.
38:12Yeah.
38:13Give me some of these guys.
38:16I'll put them against a college team.
38:17We'll play in the A-10.
38:19We'll smoke everybody.
38:20Three-point lead for the Seas coming up on four minutes left in the opening half.
38:26George had 15 in the first quarter, missed it that time.
38:29That's a phenomenal defensive sequence by Jordan Walsh.
38:32That ended with a rebound.
38:34Walsh got a shout-out from Will Hardy in his pre-game press conference.
38:38Here's Hauser, open shot.
38:40Jordan Walsh throws it in on the putback, the energy.
38:44That's what we need, Jordan Walsh, to get going.
38:47The team is better when he's on the floor.
38:49He's got to make some plays.
38:52You know, Walsh's been quiet the last couple of games.
38:54Big-time foul trouble.
38:56Had that illness he was dealing with as well.
38:59Clayton over the top for three.
39:02That, by the way, was his second dunk of the season.
39:06The rookie from Iona, then Florida.
39:10Brown too strong.
39:11Markenden boards it.
39:14You've got to go back to those high-picking rolls.
39:16Like, it feels like we're getting anything we want off those plays.
39:19There's a pocket pass, George, to Nurkic.
39:23Missed that little push shot.
39:26Nurkic's first miss of the day.
39:28Made his first three.
39:30Here is Brown, finds Kada on the roll.
39:31And his pass a little too hot for the cutting Hauser.
39:35Right idea, though.
39:37All right, take a look.
39:39Off the Hauser miss.
39:40Jordan Walsh coming right down the middle.
39:42Oh, excellent play.
40:02Here is Markenden, hounded by Walsh, who picks up his first foul.
40:07He had multiple first-quarter fouls in three of his last five games,
40:11which is why we haven't seen a ton of him lately.
40:13That's his first one tonight.
40:16I don't even think he can get that one.
40:18He's too good of a player.
40:20He didn't have to foul with Markenden on that play.
40:25Jazz throw it away.
40:28That's their fifth turnover.
40:29Celtics have four.
40:41Hauser gets out of the screen.
40:42Brown attacks Sensabaugh.
40:43Slams on the brakes.
40:46Brown's getting a ton of good shots.
40:49Shoot three for nine from the floor.
40:51One for three from downtown.
40:54George penetrates, gets hacked.
40:56That's on Walsh again.
41:00Oh, no.
41:0288.
41:03He'll get on Keita, yeah.
41:05His second foul.
41:09Well, George back to the line where he's made a habit of getting to a lot.
41:14Almost seven and a half free throw attempts per game.
41:18When he had 31 at the Garden in November, he was 11 of 13 at the stripe.
41:2290-plus percent on the season.
41:26Comforts of home is presented by Bernie and Phil.
41:29Saved up to 20 percent during Bernie and Phil's holiday savings event.
41:34And speaking of, the Jazz living at the line.
41:37They lead the league in free throws made per game.
41:40Which was a real problem for the Celtics at the start of the year.
41:43Yeah.
41:44With their new system, they were fouling a lot more.
41:46But that's come back to the norm lately.
41:48Everybody, like, around January starts to settle to who they are.
41:52Which is pretty scary for the Jazz because if this is them settling who they are,
41:56they're going to be a pretty good team.
41:57The problem is, it's West.
41:59It's so hard to unbury yourself out West.
42:02And there are a couple of teams below them in the standings that are starting to play better.
42:05Clippers are one.
42:06Houser, too short.
42:08White skies for the rebound.
42:12Brown inside.
42:14A three for ten.
42:16Kata fighting.
42:18And it's Jazz ball.
42:19Brown's got eight points.
42:21Again, looking for 30 for the tenth game in a row.
42:25And one thing Will Hardy's doing is in all-screen actions,
42:30they're up the floor against Jalen Brown.
42:32We haven't capitalized on that enough for them to take off that coverage.
42:39George.
42:39He's tough.
42:40String music.
42:43He's pointing at people on the front row.
42:47Swag is up.
42:48Zilt is 22 years old.
42:53Inside at two minutes left in the second.
42:55Three-point lead for Utah.
42:57Brown upstairs for Kata.
42:59Man, that's an old-school play.
43:01I remember when I was coaching the Warriors,
43:03we would run that, putting Draymond Green on the baseline.
43:09First time you see Brown in that spot.
43:10Yeah, it is.
43:12And then hitting the roll man like that.
43:14I mean, that's old like Steve Nash.
43:16Phoenix Sunstates.
43:19Houser almost blocked that shot from Sensabaugh.
43:22He's got a pure stroke.
43:23Better than 42% from deep last year.
43:37Richards blew a tire.
43:38Trying to get it back from Kata.
43:39Down to four.
43:41On the 24.
43:42White late shot clock.
