New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs has a lot more than the playoffs to worry about -- the NFL star is facing strangulation and assault charges in connection to an alleged incident earlier this month ... but he is denying any wrongdoing.

00:24I'm not looking at that, but it turns out there was a possible felony case against Stephon Diggs that came to fruition.
00:33Right. It came to fruition on Christmas Eve, actually,
00:37is when police went to talk to him about the accusation that he had slapped and choked his private chef earlier in December.
00:48So it has to do with a dispute over money, that apparently there was a week where Stephon didn't need her,
00:57and she said, nope, you hired me for the season, and they went back and forth on it for a while,
01:03and then we get to the day in question.
01:06Yes. December 2nd, the day after Monday Night Football where Diggs had three catches in a win over the New York Giants.
01:12The woman claims that Diggs entered her room, which was unlocked, and was addressing the text conversation that they had back and forth.
01:20Said that he got really angry over the dispute, slapped her, and had his arm around her,
01:27and then choked her with the elbow and said that it was to the point where she felt like she could have blacked out.
01:35So she goes to the police December 16th.
01:37Yes, and they say that she was hesitant in the incident report because she knew that he was a high-profile athlete and a member of the Patriots.
01:45She was going back and forth on whether she wanted to move forward with charges,
01:48but she laid all this out and explained it to them.
01:51On December 20th, she said, look, I want to move forward with charges because I've been contacted by someone I believe is Diggs' girlfriend.
01:58It does not say specifically whether that woman was Cardi B,
02:02but she said I got a voicemail from someone saying, hey, you don't want to go through with this.
02:06Diggs said, as she went to go get her stuff out of his home, that he said, handle it with my assistant.
02:12The assistant said, yeah, we'll pay you as long as you sign an NDA, which she did not want to do.
02:17So they offered to save her money.
02:19That's what she's claiming.
02:20That's what she says.
02:21Right.
02:22As long as she kept playing.
02:23He's been pretty tight-lipped about this.
02:25There was a court hearing today.

02:27And he did not appear in court, right?
02:30He did not, but his attorney did remotely and said, look, we got a statement from the attorney saying,
02:35all this is nonsense.
02:37This never happened.
02:37This is just because this woman is trying to get paid, and she made these allegations all up.
02:43Did he enter plea today?
02:44No.
02:45Arraignment is actually January 23rd, which is two days before if the Patriots do make it to the AFC Championship,
02:53they would be playing in that game.
02:55That game would be on December 23rd.
02:56So what does the NFL do in a situation like this, where he's squarely saying, didn't happen,
03:01she makes an allegation, it did, he's charged with felonies, and do they do an independent investigation?
03:10Do they just wait it out for the courts, or what?
03:12They'll do their own homework, and they did release a statement on this saying that they're in contact with the team.
03:17The Patriots did say, we fully support Stephon Diggs.
03:21We believe his side of the story, that this is all made up.
03:24So he's probably going to continue to play throughout this, and then they'll figure out as things move forward.
03:30I am not questioning Stephon Diggs, because I have no idea what happened here.
03:34But why are they reaching that conclusion now?
03:38Did they interview the woman and find her not credible?
03:40Why are they saying, we believe Stephon?
03:43The Patriots said that, because I don't know what they did with their investigation.
03:46They didn't say how thorough it was, but they seemed confident enough.
03:49The Patriots would do a separate investigation from the NFL.
03:51Right, but what I'm wondering is, did they talk to whether they spoke or not?
03:54They did not state how intensive or detailed their investigation was, or if they even did one.
03:59But they said, Stephon came to us and said, this is not true, this is all BS, and we stand by him.
04:05So the Patriots aren't going to suspend him.
04:07The NFL is saying, we're working with the team on this.
04:10But wait a minute, but wait a minute, but wait a minute.
04:13What about the text, which would be something concrete, from Cardi to the personal chef?
04:19If it exists.
04:20It was a voice note from a girlfriend, is how she described it.
04:23But is that still available?
04:25I would imagine she has the voice note.
04:27According to the incident report, it doesn't say anything along the lines of, hey, he didn't mean to put his hands on you or anything like that.
04:33It's just saying, don't make a big deal out of this.
04:35There's not really much to that.
04:37I guess the question is, when you say this, what?
04:39Is someone acknowledging her allegations?
04:42And again, I'm not.
04:44Yeah, we don't know.
04:45I have no idea.
04:46It's just, if Cardi did leave that voice message, then again, we should not say Cardi because it is also true that he has other women who are, that he's had kids with.
04:57So maybe it's one of them.
04:58But was it listed as a girlfriend?

05:05This is some really unfortunate news.
05:09I hope it's not true, but I guess we'll just have to wait for the courts to do their investigation.

05:22And I sincerely hope that Cardi B did not contact that woman because, Cardi, you're like, let's not add unnecessary fuel to this fire.
