00:00Welcome Strongman fans and those with no other particular plans.
00:24Here's something you may find entertaining.
00:25It's day three of the SPD World's Strongest Man.
00:29We're in Sacramento, California, where already days one and two have been raw and they've
00:33been primal as four men muscled their way into the final.
00:38...time and reigning SPD World's Strongest Man representing Great Britain, Tom Stoltman!
00:50Yes!
00:51We have played games!
00:53Whoa!
00:53Through to his first SPD World's Strongest Man final, it's the singing Strongman, Eddie
01:01Williams!
01:04Through to the World's Strongest Man final, let's hear it from Mitchell Hooper!
01:12Through to his very first SPD World's Strongest Man final, Paddy Hayes!
01:19Thank you for joining us today!
01:29So, Eddie Hall, the first two groups here in Sacramento have been absolutely stacked with
01:33former finalists, but today's set features some very interesting, fresh faces.
01:37Yeah, we've got two new guys, Lucas Hatton and Rayne O'Neill.
01:41Now, Lucas Hatton has been competing at some very high-level competition in Strongman.
01:45Came second at the Arnold Classic, which is where the top ten guys in the world go to compete,
01:49so that's a very good steed.
01:51And then Rayne O'Neill won the SCL, which is the Strongman Champions League.
01:55It's like the League One in Strongman, but usually guys that win that tend to do very good at this stage.
02:03And he did that despite only taking part in three of the 12 competitions, so must have something about him.
02:09Well, aside from Nell and that Manhattan, what about the chances of Britain's Shane Flowers becoming the third Brit in the final?
02:15Last time he was here, three years ago, he dropped an anvil on his foot in the first event and broke it.
02:21Can we expect better this time?
02:23Yeah, Shane Flowers has had a bit of a whirlwind the last few years.
02:26He missed one year at Will's Strongest Man because of the birth of his son.
02:30He missed the second year because ten days before the final, he ripped his bicep off the bone and had to get reattached.
02:36So, he's taken about six months to recover from that and about six months good training.
02:41He came second at Britain's Strongest Man.
02:43If you're coming to the top two in Britain, in my opinion, that puts you at the top ten in the world, no problem.
02:47Okay. Wow. Add a two-time runner-up in Mateusz Kieloszkowski into that mix,
02:51and you've got yourself a very interesting Heat three.
02:53Let's hear more about them now with our commentators Danny Wallace and Colin Bryce.
02:57Well, thanks, James. Thanks, Eddie.
02:59And yes, what a groove this is.
03:02First time traveling to North America for Rayne O'Neill,
03:05two-time Africa's Strongest Man and a former rugby player.
03:09From the US, it's Lucas, the hit Manhattan, making his debut two times America's Strongest Man.
03:16The Ghanaian gladiator, second time at World's Strongest, Evans Nanna.
03:21Mateusz Kieloszkowski, the mighty pole, twice second at World's Strongest Man.
03:26And completing the line-up from Britain's Shane Flowers.
03:30Flower Power, he calls himself.
03:32Might need a stronger nickname.
03:34So first event is the loading medley, Colin.
03:38Sacks, a sack fest.
03:40Four of them have to be loaded onto the back of a Cybertruck.
03:44The United States of America.
03:45Well, they call this guy the hitman.
03:47On account of his side hustle in assassinations.
03:52And Flowers is back, Colin.
03:55Yes, it's great to see him back.
03:57It's been a while now.
03:58He's been out with different injuries.
04:00He's got a great opportunity and he's in great shape.
04:04On the whistle.
04:06And all of these weigh around about 130 kilograms, just under 300 pounds.
04:12Or about maybe 22 stone.
04:16So pretty heavy.
04:17Not the easiest things to carry either.
04:19They can slip out your hands.
04:21Neck and neck at the moment.
04:22I'm impressed with Hatton seeing as he's got such enormous legs.
04:26This is fast for both guys, especially in this heat.
04:29Different techniques though, moving up to the shoulder for Hatton.
04:32It's definitely quicker just to carry it in your arms.
04:35But it can be tiring, especially on this last one.
04:38If you try and do that.
04:39Kicks and turns.
04:40That's really quick from Flowers.
04:42Well, it was.
04:43It's a risk to pick it up and turn.
04:45Both men doing it.
04:46Flowers faster.
04:47Nice.
04:48It's a very awkwardly shaped sack.
04:51And the Husserfeld stone.
04:53And about 47, 48 seconds there for Hatton.
04:56And we saw from the previous heats with the likes of Mitchell Hooper,
04:59Tom Stoltman, 38 seconds.
05:0148 seconds was the very best for those two.
05:04So, remember, this is compared to the other heats
05:07if you qualify through to the final.
05:09Well, four in 48.09 for Lucas Hatton.
05:13With four sandbags in a time of 40.13.
05:16But a good time.
05:18Shane Flowers.
05:19He seems satisfied.
05:2040 seconds.
05:24Yes, indeed.
05:2540 seconds is excellent.
05:26Very close to Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper from the other heats.
05:29Not sure there was much more there, though.
05:31Good job.
05:3241.
05:33Representing South Africa, Reino Nell.
05:36So, Reino Nell.
05:38That mighty chest.
05:40In lane two.
05:41Representing.
05:42Against an old hand.
05:43He's been appearing at World's Strongest since 2016.
05:47Kieliszkowski.
05:48This should be fascinating.
05:49Kieliszkowski is incredibly quick.
05:50But Reino Nell.
05:51He's almost an unknown quantity.
05:52We've heard so many things about him.
05:53Two times Africa's strongest man.
05:54And he's only been in the sport two years.
05:55Oh, absolutely.
05:56He's doing very well here.
05:57Very fast turn against Kieliszkowski.
05:58Who's just about never lost a loading event in his life.
06:00This is really impressive from the South African.
06:02Well, Nell's off.
06:03Kieliszkowski just behind him.
06:04You can tell.
06:05Nell used to play rugby.
06:06And Kieliszkowski is a...
06:07Oh, that's a fumble there.
06:08That's a fumble there.
06:09That will cost him greatly.
06:10What an error.
06:11Now that Flowers did.
06:1240 seconds just over.
06:13This is going to be tight.
06:14Nell needs to get ahead of that.
06:1540 seconds.
06:16He's not going to do that.
06:17But he's nipping away from the South African.
06:18And it's a big turn.
06:19And Kieliszkowski, who has just about never lost a loading event in his life.
06:21This is really impressive from the South African.
06:22Nell's off.
06:23Kieliszkowski just behind him.
06:24You can tell.
06:25Nell used to play rugby.
06:26And Kieliszkowski is a...
06:27Oh, there's a fumble there.
06:28That will cost him greatly.
06:29What an error.
06:30Now then, Flowers did 40 seconds just over.
06:32This is going to be tight.
06:33Nell needs to get ahead of that.
06:3540 seconds.
06:36He's not going to do that.
06:38But he's nipping at Flowers' heels.
06:41As Kieliszkowski finishes.
06:43That will be disappointing for him.
06:48Yeah, massively disappointing for Kieliszkowski.
06:50That was just a total...
06:52It's just switched off for a second.
06:54I don't know what he was thinking.
06:55He's furious at himself.
06:56And actually a bit of speed up on the last one.
07:00Well, an unhappy Kieliszkowski.
07:02Four in 46.28.
07:04And with four sandbags at a time of 42.36.
07:07And a couple of seconds behind Flowers.
07:09For Rayno Nell.
07:10Rayno Nell.
07:12You know he grew that massage this morning.
07:15Rayno shines, but Flowers blooming good
07:17and in the lead in event one.
07:19Up next, though, hey, nah, nah.
07:21It's the self-proclaimed Usain Bolt of strength.
07:24Can he go fastest?
07:25We'll find out when we return.
07:34Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man,
07:39where Brit Shane Flowers is in the lead in Group 3.
07:43Just one man left to run in the opening event,
07:45the loading medley, Evans Nana from Ghana.
07:47Back to Colin and Danny.
07:49Evans Nana!
07:50Well, thank you, James.
07:51And yes, cutting a lonely figure.
07:55Having to compete against no one.
07:58Being the solo, Evans Nana from Ghana.
08:00Calls himself, as James mentioned earlier,
08:03the Usain Bolt of strong men.
08:05It can be a little hit and miss, Evans.
08:09Certainly very fast at moving events like this.
08:13Competed at World's Strongest Man last year.
08:15That was his debut.
08:16Didn't make it to the final, but
08:18this is certainly an event that suits him.
08:20He's very quick through the first two sacks.
08:25He's only been competing in strong men since 2021.
08:30Already made a real impact with the other athletes.
08:32And now, now we see the Usain Bolt of it.
08:36The speed back to the final sack.
08:40Marginally slower than Usain Bolt.
08:42I was going to say marginally slower,
08:44but if you can let him off.
08:46Well, the 40 seconds of Shane Flowers has come and gone.
08:49He's not going to win this heat, but it's solid.
08:52Yeah.
08:53Good time for Evans Nana.
08:57Around about 44 seconds.
08:5944.9 for Evans Nana.
09:02Puts him behind Rayne O'Neill,
09:04but ahead of Kieliszkowski.
09:07Yeah, I would have said Kieliszkowski
09:09and Han were the two favorites for this heat,
09:11but right now, they're fourth and fifth.
09:13This man in third.
09:15Yes, while the favorites flounder,
09:17it's Flowers who's off to a flyer,
09:19picking up his maiden event win at World's Strongest Man.
09:22He's with Michelle.
09:23Now, Shane, the last time I saw you was back in 2022.
09:31You were in an ice bath with a broken foot.
09:33Is it good to be back?
09:35I knew he was going to bring that up.
09:37It's really good to be back.
09:38You know, three years later, in the same city,
09:41to win an event that cost me so much three years ago.
09:44Really happy, and I just need to keep building on this now.
09:47I know that my finalists have got it in me,
09:50so I just need to show the world that I can do it.
09:53This is the thing, isn't it?
09:54But it's been a long road.
09:55It's been quite the journey for you to get to this point.
09:57Yeah, it has.
09:58Obviously, 2022 went completely wrong.
10:0123, I missed due to the birth of my son.
10:0424, 10 days out from the show,
10:07managed to rupture my bicep off the bone.
10:09So I've not had much luck, but I'm here now.
10:13I'm in great shape, so let's do it.
10:15I'll tell you what, you seem incredibly focused,
10:17and as it currently stands, you're third overall.
10:20What's that doing to the confidence levels?
10:22Just building and building, you know?
10:23Like I said, I've not had much luck,
10:25so when your back's against the wall, it's hard sometimes.
10:27And there's been times over the last three years
10:29where I've thought about just jacking it in,
10:31but I just took one day at a time and now I'm back.
10:34So, yeah, buzzing.
10:35It's fantastic to see you here.
10:37Well done, Shane.
10:38Thank you. Thank you very much.
10:40Shane Flowers off to a great start
10:41in his quest to join fellow Brits Tom Stoltman
10:44and Paddy Haynes, who are already through to the final.
10:47Next up, though, for Shane and Group 3,
10:49it's a very different kind of test, the deadlift for reps.
10:52And if event one was all about speed,
10:54this requires raw power.
10:56350 kilos on the bar, 60 seconds on the clock.
11:00Our first was a man with static strength of plenty,
11:04Lucas Hatton!
11:08Hatton managed seven reps,
11:10matching the mark set in previous heats
11:12by former champions Tom Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper.
11:14With seven reps, come on!
11:15That's the number for the rest of Group 3 to aim for then,
11:18as we rejoin Conan and Danny.
11:24Representing Ghana.
11:25Evans-Nana then.
11:27Evans-Nana!
11:30Hopping to...
11:31Hopping to...
11:33Best.
11:34Hatton's seven reps,
11:35so too Kieliszkowski.
11:36Mateusz-Kieliszkowski!
11:38One of the greats, Kieliszkowski.
11:42Certainly one of the greats to never have won World's Strongest Man,
11:45that's for sure,
11:46he's right up there on that list.
11:47It's good to have him back,
11:48but this was always his Achilles heel deadlift.
11:51Nana.
11:52Down!
11:53He knocks the deadlift,
11:54and oh no!
11:55Down!
11:56Down!
11:57Down!
11:58In his hips or what,
11:59but he's...
12:00To be honest,
12:01this is probably the reason why he couldn't win World's Strongest Man.
12:02Down!
12:03Lift!
12:04That's...
12:05Already another very disappointing event for Kieliszkowski,
12:07so we'll focus on Nana.
12:09He wasn't there.
12:10Down!
12:11Down!
12:12Five reps.
12:13We've seen from the other heats that,
12:15uh,
12:16eight is about absolute max you can do in this.
12:18Down!
12:19It's a horrible brutal way that the bar doesn't bend at all.
12:22Very thick bar as well,
12:24and...
12:25Down!
12:26Picked from a very low height,
12:27lower than you would in a gym.
12:28Seven reps,
12:29could he do eight?
12:30He's got time!
12:31He does have time.
12:32Can he give us one more?
12:36This heat, of course, not helping.
12:38Down!
12:39Down!
12:40Down!
12:41Down!
12:42Down!
12:43Oh!
12:44Well, seven for Nana.
12:46Ties in for first so far with Hatton.
12:49You're given!
12:50It's had its effect, hasn't it?
12:51Goodness me, yeah.
12:53That's knocked him for sixth.
12:55Try and get his suit off,
12:56and, uh,
12:57get him breathing a little better,
12:58but,
12:59once someone stops,
13:00they rarely get another rep.
13:01Seven, though,
13:02is very solid.
13:03Equals Hatton.
13:06With seven repetitions,
13:08give it up for...
13:09Some oxygen will help him
13:10get back on it all.
13:11That was fast.
13:13Goodness me,
13:14he's the Usain Bolt,
13:15the strong man.
13:16What was in that?
13:17He's a great showman.
13:19He loves the crowd,
13:20that's for sure.
13:25Representing South Africa,
13:26Reynaud Nell.
13:28To Reynaud Nell.
13:31He's very fast
13:32in the loading medley.
13:33Representing Great Britain,
13:35Shane Flowers.
13:36And back, Shane Flowers.
13:40After some recent misfortunes.
13:46Shane is a former Commonwealth champion
13:48in powerlifting.
13:49He's been one of the three disciplines
13:51of powerlifting.
13:52I expect him to do very well here,
13:54but it's Reynaud Nell
13:55who's making the running.
13:56Down, down.
13:57The unknown quantity.
13:59Banging them out here.
14:00This is impressive from Nell.
14:04He doesn't really know
14:05what his maximum is.
14:06He's never really been tested yet.
14:08He is fairly new to strong man.
14:11This is his debut at World's Strongest Man.
14:13He looks great.
14:14It has to be said.
14:16Often we see that when someone
14:17doesn't know what they're not
14:19supposed to be able to do,
14:20they go a lot further than we think they can.
14:24And he's doing that now.
14:26Yes, he shouldn't do it.
14:28But he can.
14:29And he's done it.
14:30Wow.
14:31My goodness me.
14:32That's a massive total.
14:33Flowers trying to get the seventh up here.
14:35Can he get it up his quads?
14:36No, he can't.
14:37So close there.
14:39Shane Flowers.
14:41Well, in powerlifting,
14:43you'd have been told to put that down,
14:45but in strong man,
14:46that's fine.
14:47You could jack it up,
14:48but he didn't have the energy in the end.
14:51So six reps for Shane Flowers.
14:54The winner of the deadlift.
14:56Let's hear it.
14:57But just incredible, really,
14:58from Rayne O'Neill.
14:59Surprised everybody.
15:00Eight reps.
15:03Well, we've seen he's very fast
15:04and now we've seen he's statically
15:06very, very strong too.
15:07This guy's looking like an all-round package.
15:11The South African,
15:12an all-round surprise package.
15:14He's eight reps,
15:15equaling the best score
15:16we've seen all week.
15:18They call him the Rayne O'Neill.
15:20And right now,
15:21he's with Michel.
15:23Rayne O'Neill,
15:24first time on the World's Strongest Man circuit
15:27and you've just won an event.
15:29How does it feel?
15:30No, it's amazing.
15:31I had a bit more hope for a loading medley,
15:33so this is good redemption for me, for myself.
15:36And I know for you,
15:37you grew up watching strong man.
15:39To actually be here with some of the greatest strong men
15:42of all time,
15:43what's that like for you?
15:44Yeah, it's awesome.
15:45I mean, I don't get bigger than this.
15:46I'm so,
15:47so humble and so glad to be taking in every moment.
15:50It's amazing.
15:51What's the plan for the next event?
15:53I take it one event at a time.
15:55So, next is the pressing medley.
15:58I have a game plan.
15:59I'm not going to share it yet.
16:00Fair enough.
16:01But yeah, no, I'll just go out and give my best.
16:04And do you have an overall goal for this year's World's Strongest Man?
16:08Have you got your eyes on the final?
16:09Yeah, being my first World's Strongest Man,
16:11I think getting into a final will be a big achievement.
16:14So, yeah, that's the first box that I need to tick.
16:17It feels like there's a lot of eyes on you coming into this competition.
16:21Does that add a bit of pressure?
16:22Do you feel like you've got a point to prove?
16:24Yeah, look, I come from a whole different organization.
16:27There's only one other guy here that I competed against.
16:29So, I think I'm an unknown.
16:31But for me, take it one event at a time,
16:33and then maybe show the guys I deserve to be here.
16:36Well, the best of luck, Reyna.
16:37Thank you so much.
16:40Reyna the Rhino currently on top of the standings.
16:43Two points clear of Shane Flowers
16:44in what continues to be a very surprising group.
16:47The highly rated Lucas Hatton and Mateusz Kieloskowski
16:50are currently a long way off the qualifying positions.
16:54Up next, it's the overhead medley.
16:56Can Lucas and Mateusz keep up with the pairs?
16:59Can Shane Flowers keep his spot in the top two?
17:01We'll find out when we return.
17:10Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man.
17:13Next up for the strongmen of group three,
17:15it's the overhead medley.
17:17This test of overhead metal, literally,
17:20with four different implements
17:22for a combined seven reps and 75 seconds on the clock.
17:26First out, and in desperate need to point,
17:28is Poland's Mateusz Kieloskowski.
17:30Over to Colin and Danny.
17:32Well, Kieloskowski could redeem himself here.
17:41One of the most explosive overhead pressers in the world.
17:45Yes, he has to go on his own.
17:48He was at last in the deadlift,
17:50so he has to come out first in this event.
17:52Ninety kilograms overhead.
17:53This should be no problem whatsoever for him.
17:56And he is one of the greatest
17:58dumbbell pressers there's ever been, that's for sure.
18:02Now then, let's see if he does Viper.
18:04Yes, he does.
18:05Just chucks it right from his hip up overhead.
18:08No pausing necessary.
18:10Just straight up.
18:11Viper press, as they called it.
18:14Very impressive.
18:15Now then, onto the clean and jerk of this circus barbell.
18:23Seems to be struggling slightly here.
18:27Lacking the power belly.
18:28Needs the power belly, doesn't he?
18:30Oh, that's it for Kieloskowski.
18:33Well, something's not right here, obviously.
18:35He's not feeling himself.
18:37Yeah, I'm very surprised.
18:38You saw how easy it was for him to chuck that log up.
18:40It's as if he just ran out of gas.
18:43Let's hear it from Matthias Kielos-Kielos-Kielos-Kielos-Kielos-Kielos-Kielos.
18:45Well, four in 26.25.
18:47I don't know what's going through his head.
18:54Representing the United States of America.
18:56So, Lucas Hitman Hatton.
19:02One of the world's greatest pressers.
19:05And Shane Flowers.
19:07Shane Flowers.
19:09He's having a good day.
19:12He's feeling good.
19:19Looking forward to seeing Hatton press the log.
19:23One of the best log pressers right now out there.
19:26If not the best, just about.
19:28And, uh, very quick with that dumbbell.
19:31Wow.
19:32That was lightning.
19:34Come on, Shane.
19:36Let's go.
19:38Have something at Kielos-Kofsky.
19:39Anything Kielos-Kofsky can do.
19:44Slower, steadier.
19:46slower steadier now then let's see how hatton deals with this circus barbell
19:57look at that 350 pounds gleaned and jerked overhead with ease
20:03if he gets through this next one hatton he'll go on to the axle the end game monster if you like
20:08weighing 168 kilograms it's more like uh 365 pounds very heavy indeed
20:2075 seconds of which to do it he's still got time
20:30oh no that was beaten flowers oh
20:34oh he didn't lock it out but he did look it out but it was in front of him goodness me
20:42well five in 52.74 for shane flowers
20:51but one ahead lucas hatton six in 47.41
20:58i really thought hatton was going to do the final implement there such a great presser but all of
21:03the cleaning getting it to the shoulders is what tied him
21:09evans nana next
21:15getting the crowd on side always a good idea
21:19and rey no nail
21:22slightly more modest in his behavior he's a very humble fella but exceptionally talented
21:29so uh ghana against south africa right here
21:37it's fast from now i mean this is quite a technical event for a man who's not been in the sport
21:43particularly long he's just so talented at everything highly coordinated as well as ridiculously strong
21:49goodness me and straight back to the second
21:55well what's happening here almost doesn't make sense we're talking 150 kilos in the hand there
21:59that's a serious weight
22:00already moving on you see how long armed he is as well that's a long old press down him he's pushing
22:13it a great deal above his head there he's not built to be oppressive but he's good oh what a jerk now
22:20that's how to lift weights oh it bounced into him that's got a perk for the uninitiated what a jerk is
22:26actually a compliment
22:30basically using your legs twice driving and dipping in case he just tuned in and thought
22:35colin bryce would luster's mind so nana oh it's unsteady that's a shame
22:42yeah he never had full control did he oh that's really bouncing around into them
22:49a little uncomfortable finish for nell but uh another consistent good performance
23:00puts him in second after hatton five in 36.81
23:05and we found third place as well in evans nana five in 48.91
23:12and that's hard lines there for nana i mean if you look at it in slow motion it does look like
23:20he's locked out because he is but he was always drifting away he wasn't in control it was the
23:25right call for magnus i disagree
23:30the results for the overhead medley hatton hits back to claim a much needed event win
23:35nell nana and flowers will put up five but not matthias kilaskowski whose return to worlds
23:40is not going to plan he's with michelle matthias everyone's been so excited to see you back here
23:47at worlds but we know you've had a difficult time of it with the last three events haven't you yeah
23:52i was very excited to come here but i don't feel don't feel well because i feel uh something like
23:58high temperature some fever uh here is very hot but i use long long sleeves uh i don't feel good
24:05right now it's bad luck for me but events events was fine i should be go final easy but it's not my
24:12time maybe next year will be better so tricky especially if you're battling illness and injury
24:19too yeah i come back after a very very heart injury last year i turned my achilles i not maybe 100
24:26percent power maybe 80 percent is now uh but still i need to be very very healthy to compete the highest
24:33level here well you know what matthias there's so much love and respect for you here at world's
24:39strongest man and there are two events coming up that we know you're fantastic at does that give
24:44you hope that you can come back and put on a show you know i will do my maximum what i can possible now
24:50uh yesterday also overhead medley i should win easy with total 25 guys because i am the best in the in
24:56the medley overhead but i can breathe i have i don't have power i i feel cold all the time i can't
25:03warm up if i do warm up i still have pain in my joints elbows and my knees so i will do my the best
25:11of course stone is 100 percent my event and i will push my body to to to limit to maybe win only one
25:19event and just satisfy my my mind a little bit matthias we're all rooting for you and we really hope you
25:25feel better soon thank you thank you three events into heat three and we've had three different
25:32winners so far but it's the not so little nell who's leading the way he's winning the deadlift
25:37plus second places in the other events means that he is three and a half points clear right now he's
25:41looking good eddie he's looking phenomenal but deadlift result was insane eight reps beating tom
25:47stoltman and mitchell hooper they only managed seven honestly that is within the best in the world
25:52that deadlift absolutely insane top two go through from this group currently shane flowers in fourth
25:57spot but he's only half a point behind second yeah shane flowers is doing really good titans toss up
26:04next so it's a good event for him he's got the world record at the giants live for the sandbag toss
26:08so it keeps him in contention to make it into the final this year excellent what has been spectacular
26:13to watch in the first two heats let's see how the titans toss goes this time with colin and danny
26:18yes the titans toss colin you're a titan so why don't you talk us through this well you have to
26:25toss 10 sacks over a bar and that you get further and further away with each pair of sacks they all
26:31weigh 14 kilograms around about 30 pounds and uh oh this is how it's done true test of explosive power
26:40matthias kieliszkowski had to come out first on his own having finished last of the previous event just
26:46seven out of the ten in 31.97 seconds i think you'll be a little disappointed with that especially
26:52when there's so many good throwers and athletes in this heat so an achievable benchmark from kieliszkowski
27:00managing seven
27:03it is a game of strength it's a game of physics
27:06it's got to get the angle right the angle of trajectory and it gets flatter and flatter the
27:13further away you get evans nana good thrower very explosive we know that but uh shane flowers as eddie
27:20touched on is exceptional at throwing taking it very seriously as well very focused flowers
27:34well so far so easy for both men it's just gonna get tricky
27:50that's high and long from flowers as he moves on to the last one oh didn't get that one though nor the
27:57fine so eight for flowers that's 12 meters away there for nana
28:05it's just not even close i'm afraid
28:09still six for him eight for flowers yes flowers moving into first
28:13and a time of 23.66 give it up and flowers can't do all ten that shows you quite how hard it is
28:27to eight in 23.38
28:32fast time for flowers and he wanted to be quick didn't he
28:35expect him to be the best in the group unless kieliszkowski was firing on all cylinders which he
28:42wasn't seven for him eight for shane i think he'll be fairly happy with that we still have a pair to go
28:48so he might get beaten that's pretty solid
28:54so hatton the hitman
28:57maybe not his strongest events we think
29:04reyno nell's wife they got married just two months ago
29:09this affected me their honeymoon i wonder how he broke that to her
29:16now that i expect reyno nell to be exceptional at this he's just
29:19turned out to be brilliant at everything hatton he's not exactly built for this at six foot
29:24short levers in terms of arms and legs but he's got some wild power too i saw him in the warm-up
29:29he looked very impressive and now very good indeed so far so good for nell and hatton
29:37well nell is taking no chances is he
29:41absolutely launching it over here but uh he's gonna get unstuck soon as he's getting closer and
29:47closer to the uh upright he needs to recalibrate and that wasn't it no and uh
29:55hatton managed to hit it as well but got it over
29:58no no wrong with hatton goodness me rolls it over the bar two in a row he did that impressive
30:05this might be a meter too far i think i'm not sure what that little dance was but i enjoyed it
30:13and then there's a man who knows what he's beaten goodness me well great work
30:20and hatton big surprise there i'm not sure this needed a replay yeah he's having a little joke with
30:28the referees who uh stopped him throwing them with one arm in the warm-up said no no that's not loud
30:34well that's 18 44.06 for lucas hatton and eight also for right now 29.41
30:43puts him in second time matters now was very quick indeed he could have been quicker he
30:49definitely did a bit of ball watching as they went over each time
30:52he did what
30:57so third place for lucas hatton which keeps him in the qualifying picture rayne o'nell impressing
31:02again in second but it's shane flowers who takes his second event win he's with michelle
31:08shane another event win for you second overall in the group what's going through your mind i'll be
31:14honest i'm not happy with that i'm happy to take the five points and the event win in my group but i've
31:20done this event nine times now in a competition i've never lost never missed a bag so to break
31:25that streak sucks but i'll take the five points sat in second now going into the last event and i just
31:30want to get in that in that final so i'll take it and um i'll use any kind of aggression or mood that
31:36i've got onto the last event and i'll make sure i send it absolutely we look forward to seeing you in
31:40it thank you thank you everyone well with just one event to go it's rayne o'nell who leads the way on
31:46his debut three points clear of shane with lucas hatton shane's closest challenger one and a half points
31:52further back sad news meanwhile matthias kilaskowski withdrawing from the competition due to illness
32:00four men remain to battle in our final event for those two qualifying places
32:05we'll get rolling with the stones when we return on the spd world's strongest man
32:17welcome back to sacramento it's the conclusion of group three of the 2025 spd world's strongest man
32:25two places in the grand final are at stake with just one more event to go the natural stone medley
32:31this a time trial of ancient origins features four stones of varying shapes sizes and weight to be
32:40pressed shouldered carried and loaded inside 90 seconds lying in fourth overall but still with an
32:47outside chance of qualifying evans nana the Ghanaian gladiator was the first man out
32:53sadly evans could only press the opening 123 kilo stone and that means his chances of progress are all
33:03but done
33:06hatton flowers and now are the three remaining hopefuls two spots in the grand final are up for grabs
33:12who will take them to the finale of group three let's hand you back to colin and danny
33:21representing the united states well big things expected of lucas hatton
33:26extremely depressing yes well said and the first section of this stone medley it's really all about
33:35the press you've got this rectangle of stone up to your chest and then try and get your grip and
33:41that's the tricky bit if you can get that you'll have no problems throwing 125 kilos overhead
33:47well up it goes locks it out drops it shoulder carry
33:57yes you've just got to uh if this 100 and over 150 kilos of stone up to your shoulder
34:05it's a sort of giant sausage shape he's struggling to get his arms around this it's very wide he's
34:10an interesting way to attack it lengthways probably the best way to get it up to your uh thighs
34:23he's very sweaty here it's very hot and he's uh maybe just struggling a little bit with his grip
34:29you see he's got little tacky towels tucked into his socks this helps you stick to these stones a bit
34:34he's really struggling to work this out here we go tacky towels this is pine resin add a little bit
34:46of tack to the stone as he tries to grip it here we go remember he's got 90 seconds so he's starting to
34:52run out of time he's left he's beaten he can't work it out that's that for lucas hatton one in 16.72
35:02ladies and gentlemen and then about a minute and 15 and looking at the stones
35:08yes i mean he just he just couldn't get it i think it's to do with the sheer width of it
35:12and let's not forget the weight of it you know it's nearly 350 pounds of stone it's awkward very wide
35:20well has opportunity opened up for shane flowers yes he also knows the parameters that opportunity
35:28comes in he's really got to do this faster than evans now now this first stone and that was around
35:34about 13 seconds so let's see how he gets on with it doesn't have much fumble time with it that's for
35:40sure he gets this up quickly he's in the final i think he's in he gets the down signal does he yes yes
35:47okay so shane flowers will be in the final of world's strongest man and now it's about doing as much as
35:56he can to get as many points as he can yes i mean the equivalent of the first event of the final is
36:02those who make it into the final exactly what they did in the heat so uh the leading man will start the
36:08final with 10 points and uh did he do well here this is an awfully tricky event wow did he get that
36:17i'm not sure he did i'd rather like tom stoltman in the other heat he uh
36:22still feel a bit fade and went down it's a really hard event it really is that stone shoulder he's
36:28all right smiling and i don't think magnus is going to let him have another go i think that's probably it
36:33ladies and gentlemen through to his first spd well he did it from his bad final shane flower another
36:41brit's in the final shane flowers he did enough and he did it well
36:55it's emotional whether he's still seeing stars because right there he was almost out the game
36:59and uh ditched the stone he knew he's going down a great moment there's his dad graham who's been
37:07to all of his big contests supporting him all along his journey and strongman
37:17big moment well done shane
37:21representing reyno nell then last to go
37:24he's a smart man he's been studying ready yes sir on the whistle the maths computation
37:34of but who's going to make it into the final and he can't miss out now he's absolutely guaranteed to be
37:40in but this about gathering points for that grand final now compared to the likes of tom stoltman and
37:49mitchell hooper who won their heats before him so we head into that a good result here he chucks that
37:56up like a sack of tatties problem at all that's what i meant when he's been studying he's been working
38:01this out and that was very easy for him you know on the hussevelt stone now made in a mold to be similar to the
38:13famous icelandic carrying stone around about 181 82 kilos 400 pounds and he finishes that with ease on to
38:21the big daddy at the end here the tombstone
38:28seen mitchell hooper do this
38:32goodness me see if he can match yes he can almost threw it over yeah
38:38that was almost 200 kilograms of dead stone so impressive well his own family seems stunned there
38:49as if they can't believe it either this guy is very special 62 seconds for all four
38:54is there anything he can't do
38:58he just seems to have all of the abilities needed for a top strong man he's going to be a danger in the final
39:03so it's rain o'neil arguably the story of this year's competition so far who wins group three
39:12charging through those four stones in a little over a minute meanwhile an emotional shane flowers
39:19takes second spot and becomes the third brit to qualify for this year's grand final he's with michelle
39:24shane you did it oh god don't cry don't cry oh it's been my world's strongest man journey's been a
39:37roller coaster promotion um and they're harder by the fact that i'm really homesick at the moment
39:44um my little boy's back home he's not very well you know my missus is holding down the fort
39:49i woke up this morning and thought and i'm going to make the most of my absence and this opportunity
39:55i'm going to make it worthwhile and i've done it so that's for you ronnie love you mate how incredible
40:03is that your family they're at home they're supporting you they are your motivation you've
40:08done it you've reached the final oh i can't believe it i've thought about this for three years
40:13ups and downs thought about quitting but because of my support network my dad
40:22my wife everybody everybody thank you this is for them it's not me it's all for them
40:29you can tell just how special this is the emotion is there are you going to be channeling that now
40:36when you go into these next events within the final yeah my body feels really good i've never felt
40:43this strong um the groups were harder than what i thought but this world's strongest man is
40:49undoubtedly the hardest year it's ever been it's the most competitive and to make my return to make
40:54the final on this year with that group i'm so happy and i'm revved up for the final you deserve
41:00it shane congratulations thank you thank you everybody i can't believe it so what a great day for
41:09a great britain shane flowers taking second place going to the final joined by that south african
41:15surprise the powerhouse reyn o'nell right now congratulations you're through to the final
41:21you're having fun yeah it's amazing i love the sport you're having an incredible year as well you got
41:26married what two months ago today uh yesterday was our two month anniversary amazing what do you make of
41:32this guy eddie he only started competing when two years ago phenomenal yeah you've been in the sport
41:36two years now yeah strongman champions league yeah i still count my marriage in months so let's do
41:40it with strongman so i think it's two two years and three months two years and three months and
41:44you're here at the world's strongest man top ten in the world what aspirations have you got into
41:48strongman yes it's still new so i just take it next competition at a time i mean everyone wants to
41:54win the world's strongest man so that's the ultimate goal but i mean the path today i'll just
41:58keep on improving final events in the in the final good for you yeah fairly good um one event i've
42:04never done um but but yeah i'm positive what have you never done hercules hold hercules one of the
42:10best ones gotta say rey not only are you through but you've done it in real style you kind of match
42:15the performances of two of the really big names have already gone in uh mitchell hooper and tom stolman
42:20are you surprised at just how well you've been able to adapt to this level of strongman yeah we'll see i
42:25mean still five five events to go so i've never done as long of a competition but up to this
42:30point i'm i'm fairly happy with what i did yeah i'm not surprised congratulations we look forward
42:35to seeing you in the final before that of course next time out we've got heat four and it's back to
42:39the future with britain's luke the future richardson he's back after four years away from world's strongest
42:45man can he get past though the likes of maxime boudreau and andre foitu and trey mitchell we'll be
42:51finding out next time on spd world's strongest man all that with james and the team tomorrow at seven
42:59here on five nicholas cage has a problem even bigger than his hair when his flight gets hijacked
43:05con air due to depart at nine after northamptonshire police interceptors getting quite a shock when a
43:11driver finally winds down the window in just a moment
