00:00:00That's your latest travel update from us here at the station.
00:00:02It's the 1st of December, so Christmas has officially started.
00:00:06And this is a classic.
00:00:09Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
00:00:12Jingle bell swing and jingle bell ring
00:00:16Snow and hand go and a push of a fight
00:00:20Morning, Helen. Christmas begins.
00:00:25Indeed.
00:00:27There you go.
00:00:28Jingle bell time and jingle bell time
00:00:32Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
00:00:36In the frosty air
00:00:39Well, I could do with a nice cup of tea after that.
00:00:45I've never seen the town centre so busy.
00:00:51Oh, I'm sorry, Helen. I didn't know there was a team meeting.
00:00:54Oh, you're fine, Marjorie. I was just making a small announcement.
00:00:58You'll never believe it.
00:00:59She's only taking us away for the office Christmas party.
00:01:01It's been a tough old year.
00:01:03And I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me get through it.
00:01:07Guess what? We're only going to the ruddy Caribbean.
00:01:10Oh, my goodness gracious me.
00:01:13Oh, although it does mean missing the away game of Colchester.
00:01:16What's that matter?
00:01:17It's the Caribbean!
00:01:20And you've properly budgeted for it, Mum?
00:01:22Yes, Neil. It's all accounted for.
00:01:24Quite sure?
00:01:26You know, I've always wanted to visit that part of the world.
00:01:29Oh, um, not you, Marjorie, love. It's senior staff only. I am so sorry. I should have said.
00:01:39Oh, of course. I'm sorry, Helen. Silly old me.
00:01:44Duh.
00:01:44Oh, I probably should get that.
00:01:52We are so going bikini shopping after work tonight.
00:01:57Oh, I might treat yourself to some speed.

00:03:05Happy Christmas.
00:03:26Happy Christmas.
00:03:35Hi, Marjorie. I just want to let you know that there's a Commissioner Patterson arriving.
00:03:47It's a serious situation over here. Give him access to anything he needs. I've told the police here that we're going to cooperate fully.
00:03:56Will do, Helen. Oh, I hear him now. We'll speak later.
00:04:00Okay.
00:04:00Ah! You must be the policeman from the Caribbean. Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:04:08Selwyn Patterson.
00:04:10So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:04:14The police were called to your colleague's Holiday Villa, where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found, shot dead, murdered.
00:04:22The police were called to your father.
00:04:52Morning, Miss Baudet.
00:05:09Morning, Seb. It's a final rehearsal for the Nativity this evening.
00:05:13I wish you all the best, Anne. Good luck to you, little king people.
00:05:17Yes, I. Yes. Yes.
00:05:20Allez, let's go.
00:05:21Good morning, Saad.
00:05:32Morning, Seb. Got a card from Darlene.
00:05:34Oh.
00:05:35Looks like she won't make it back for Christmas.
00:05:38Her auntie's still sick, so she's staying on Montserrat.
00:05:41Nothing in the post for the inspector, you know, from Antica.
00:05:46His brother, you mean?
00:05:48It's been three months.
00:05:50I guess it's like a lot, you know?
00:05:52I mean, in getting a letter from a breadie you never knew you had.
00:05:57It might take some time.
00:05:58I just feel sorry for him.
00:06:00He keeps saying he's fine about it, but I don't think he is.
00:06:06Where is D.I. Wilson?
00:06:08Rehearsing.
00:06:08Oh, yes. Oh, I am so jealous.
00:06:12He must be hyped up to wear that costume, huh?
00:06:15I bet he is.
00:06:17I'm really not happy about this.
00:06:19Why not, Mervyn?
00:06:21Because I look like a ninny.
00:06:22No, you don't.
00:06:24You look very...
00:06:27authentic.
00:06:28I just don't think the boots are helping.
00:06:31Look, with all due respect, Miss Bourdais,
00:06:36I just think it'd be better off finding somebody else for this.
00:06:40You know, somebody less me.
00:06:43Mervyn, it has always been the commissioner
00:06:45who carries up this task for me.
00:06:48With him gone.
00:06:49Inspector.
00:06:51Great.
00:06:52Yes, sir.
00:06:53You look cool, man.
00:06:54Not another word.
00:06:55That's welcome.
00:06:57Could we have a chat, sir?
00:07:01We have a murder to attend.
00:07:07For real?
00:07:10Well, that's up, then.
00:07:11I've got work to do.
00:07:13Conversation over.
00:07:14Conversation paused.
00:07:15Sorry, Catherine.
00:07:16Come on, let's go.
00:07:20Inspector.
00:07:22You think maybe you should change first?
00:07:31Big Tim's name is Darian St. Jules.
00:07:54He's a local fisherman, lives half a mile up the coast.
00:07:57Right.
00:07:57The guests staying here are from the UK.
00:08:00They all say they haven't a clue who he is or what he was doing here.
00:08:05But clearly, someone must have shot him and left him there.
00:08:09Right.
00:08:11No sign of the gun, but paramedics are saying with the bullet still lodged in the victim's shoulder,
00:08:16cause of death was possibly from internal bleeding.
00:08:19Right.
00:08:21And what about you, Inspector?
00:08:23Anything of interest?
00:08:26Well, he certainly liked his aftershave.
00:08:29Have a sniff.
00:08:34I guess that's pretty strong.
00:08:37I don't know if it was because of his work.
00:08:39You know, slapped on the old cologne to cover the smell of fish.
00:08:41I know a bit of a man in Tootin did the same thing.
00:08:44And that's what bothers you the most.
00:08:46The fact that the victim used a bit too much aftershave.
00:08:50Actually, what's bothering me the most is what's written on the palm of his left hand.
00:08:57Blitzen.
00:08:58Like the reindeer.
00:09:00It's the only one I can think of.
00:09:03Dasha, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donna, Blitzen.
00:09:09And Rudolf.
00:09:09Thank you, Officer Rose.
00:09:14The ink seems fresh.
00:09:16Which means he wrote it in the last 12 hours or so.
00:09:20And then not long after, he was shot.
00:09:23When it is Christmas, sir, could just be a coincidence.
00:09:32We have no idea who this guy is or what he's doing in our villa.
00:09:35So how can we know why he wrote the name of one of Santa's reindeer on his hand?
00:09:37I don't know. I'm just asking the question.
00:09:40Not a problem, is it?
00:09:43No.
00:09:44No, of course not.
00:09:46Let's start with you telling me what you're doing here on St. Marie.
00:09:49Well, we flew here for our office Christmas party.
00:09:52It wasn't cheap.
00:09:53We were having the time of our lives.
00:09:55Life to be.
00:09:59Life to be.
00:10:02Life to be.
00:10:03No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:10:05No!
00:10:06Oh, my God.
00:10:07Everyone get in.
00:10:08maybe talk us through the events of last night yeah what happened exactly we said we take it
00:10:20easy for our last night then we got back here and carried on drinking yeah looks like quite a part
00:10:36you had done right it was sorry that's not very good the rum out here it's it's stronger than we
00:10:46used to and what time did the party end I haven't got a clue me to be honest it's all a little bit
00:11:01hazy I really don't remember very much you know lightweight man I remember everything
00:11:08Helen you and me put Neil to bed about midnight I'm sure I wasn't that bad are you so uh
00:11:16oh he's always had a low tolerance mom sorry love can we just yeah Helen you went to bed as well
00:11:26me and you kept on it till about half three yeah you were so cute you were dead to the world by then
00:11:36so uh I left you asleep in a hammock and then what
00:11:41oh and then um the taxi for the airport woke me up everyone wake up wake up
00:11:53that's when I saw him I thought he was asleep at first but when I got closer I saw the blood
00:12:00someone call an ambulance now
00:12:03you were in the hammock when whatever happened happened you didn't hear the gunshot well yeah
00:12:10yeah you thought but well it's like Helen said you know the room out here it's uh stronger than you
00:12:15used to inspector that's something you should see this is the only security camera footage from the
00:12:26villa footage is from this morning outside the front door the victim arrives at 5 32 a.m heads inside
00:12:32the door was unlocked so he let himself in after that nobody is seen leaving or arriving so the
00:12:39only way in or out is from the front and the drop of the back is too steep for access so it's got to
00:12:46be one of these four who shot down in St Jules which means the gun that they use must still be here but
00:12:52they're all saying they've never met him before so why would one of them kill a total stranger
00:13:02how you come to check-in the names Helen dogdale of course one moment please I can't believe they're
00:13:20not letting us fly home it's police overreach is what it is so much for doing something different
00:13:27should have just gone under the red lion like last year none of this would have happened
00:13:32girl do you think there's something Helen's not telling us she's been on edge ever since the
00:13:40police arrived
00:13:41so why did darian go to that villa at 5 30 in the morning
00:13:53hmm let's see what we find at his house
00:13:55how are you getting on sir well I haven't found anything that connects our victim to the suspects
00:14:06but I have found this the victims aftershave really this again he's different to the one he was wearing
00:14:12at the crime scene yeah have a sniff I haven't found any others here and there certainly wasn't one
00:14:21on his person so why did he smell different to the brand of aftershave that he owns
00:14:25so I searched the suspects the villa and surrounding areas and there was no gun no it has to be there no one left the villa after the victim was shot so the weapon has to be there somewhere yeah no I totally get the logic inspector
00:14:55but it ain't there for definite there's no gun at the villa but that doesn't make any sense
00:15:00so sorry excuse me hello yes well this is a strange one we've got four people suspected of shooting a man
00:15:08they don't know with a gun they don't have let's start working through the victim's laptop see what's on
00:15:13there we need to find that gun
00:15:14what actually sir it's the nativity service if you'd forgotten
00:15:21are you serious
00:15:23and we promised Catherine we'd make sure you get there
00:15:26look we've got a murder case to solve in case you hadn't noticed
00:15:30and I haven't got time for play acting with a bunch of kids at some school nativity
00:15:35then you better find the time inspector
00:15:36why is she
00:15:41good evening to you inspector
00:15:44officer Curtis was a pleasant surprise
00:15:47my niece is performing in the nativity tonight
00:15:50and word has got back to me that they might not have a narrator
00:15:54because the man who is supposed to be doing it
00:15:57is being a grumpy goose about the whole thing
00:16:00a grumpy
00:16:00now listen
00:16:01you listen to me you are doing it end of
00:16:05so get your backside down to that church

00:20:31Hey sir, you didn't come back
00:20:49Just wanted to check how you're doing
00:20:52Yeah, it wasn't Solomon on the phone
00:20:55Anyway, I've been thinking
00:20:58We really don't know anything about these people
00:21:00You know, their lives in the UK
00:21:04I was thinking we could use someone to do a bit of digging
00:21:07Into our suspects back in their hometown
00:21:09Right, you want me to get in touch with the Swindon police?
00:21:11No, no, no, I've already done that
00:21:13They fly out till New Year
00:21:14But then I remembered we do have someone in the UK
00:21:17Who maybe could give us a hand
00:21:19You must be the policeman from the Caribbean
00:21:30Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:21:32Selwyn Patterson
00:21:34I'm no longer a commissioner
00:21:36I'm retired now
00:21:37Right, okay
00:21:39So now you're just...
00:21:41Helping out
00:21:42Somewhat reluctantly
00:21:43If I'm honest with you
00:21:45So what has actually happened out there?
00:21:49The police were called to your colleague's holiday villa
00:21:52Where I'm sorry to see
00:21:54A man was found
00:21:55Shot dead
00:21:56Murdered
00:21:57I'm keen to get on with things
00:22:00And get out of here as quickly as I can
00:22:02Rightio
00:22:04Well, I'll give you the guided tour
00:22:06Welcome to Dugdale's branded merchandise
00:22:09So, that desk over there is Helen
00:22:14She's the managing director
00:22:16This desk belongs to our graphic designer, Gavin
00:22:20Accounts manager, Neil
00:22:22And Karen, head of sales
00:22:24And this one?
00:22:26Oh, oh, she's not here anymore
00:22:28She left a couple of months ago
00:22:31Who?
00:22:32Ashley
00:22:33Ashley Sims, her name was
00:22:35It was all somewhat clandestine
00:22:37If you ask me, Mr. Patterson
00:22:42She did what they call a midnight flit
00:22:45Never came back
00:22:48Are you sure you don't want a cup of tea?
00:22:50I'm gonna make myself one
00:22:52This drawer is locked
00:22:54Oh, yes
00:22:55It's been like that since Ashley left
00:22:57She has the only key
00:22:58I've been meaning to sort it
00:23:00Commissioner, you do know what time it is over here, right?
00:23:10Half past three in the morning
00:23:12But as I have abandoned Woodfriend's wedding to travel to Swindon
00:23:17And help you out
00:23:18Okay, fair dues
00:23:19How can I help?
00:23:20The bullet you recovered from your victim
00:23:22Have you had the ballistics report back on it yet?
00:23:23Yeah, it was a .45 caliber
00:23:24Most likely fired from a pistol
00:23:25And did you find the weapon?
00:23:26No
00:23:27Why?
00:23:28Because I'm currently looking at a .45 caliber pistol in a desk drawer in Swindon
00:23:41It can't be the same one
00:23:43Can it?
00:23:59Can it?
00:24:01Morning, sir
00:24:17Morning, Inspector
00:24:18This can't be right
00:24:20It just can't be
00:24:21What's going on?
00:24:22Commissioner found a gun
00:24:24Locked in the desk drawer
00:24:25Of an ex-employee called Ashley Simms
00:24:27In the Dugdale's offices back in the UK
00:24:29What?
00:24:30Local forensic lab fast-tracked it
00:24:32And they say that is the gun that fired the bullet that killed Darren St. Jules
00:24:36Look, security footage shows that no one touched that drawer since the shooting
00:24:42Wait, so how was that gun used to shoot Darren St. Jules on this island
00:24:45If the same gun was locked in a drawer 5,000 miles away?
00:24:49I know, right?
00:24:50It makes no sense
00:24:54We need to speak to Helen Dugdale
00:24:59Helen?
00:25:00If you're in there, can you open the door, please?
00:25:01We need to speak with you about Ashley Simms
00:25:14There's something you need to see
00:25:20I guess
00:25:23I want to say sorry
00:25:25I know it's not enough
00:25:28And it won't change how you feel about me
00:25:32But I do mean it
00:25:35I don't know why I keep doing this
00:25:39I blow everything up
00:25:43But, erm, it's why I've come here
00:25:49To get away
00:25:52Try and understand
00:25:57Why I hurt people
00:26:01That's Ashley
00:26:02The way that I do
00:26:03That's Ashley
00:26:04She stole from me
00:26:08From the company
00:26:09How much?
00:26:10500,000 pounds
00:26:11Ouch
00:26:13My husband, Keith
00:26:15Dugdale's was his company
00:26:17Until he
00:26:18Passed away at the start of the year from a heart attack
00:26:20I'm sorry to hear that
00:26:23That's when I took over the reins
00:26:26I really wanted to make it work
00:26:28And it was around that time that we had a position to fill
00:26:30When you gave the job to Miss Simms
00:26:33I knew she had a past
00:26:34That she'd been to prison
00:26:35But Keith always believed in giving people a second chance
00:26:38And I wanted to honour that
00:26:39What Miss Simms let you down?
00:26:42Not even a year has passed
00:26:43And I've already lost half a million pounds
00:26:45Did you report Ashley to the police?
00:26:47I was too embarrassed
00:26:50So I hired someone to find out where she sent the email from
00:26:54In that video she recorded
00:26:56That was sent from this island?
00:26:58Yes
00:26:59Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Darian St. George?
00:27:04The man I hired discovered that Darian had rented a holiday let to Ashley
00:27:08That's why I came here to try and get my money back
00:27:10I made sure our villa wasn't far from Darian's house
00:27:13So it would be easy to go and visit him
00:27:15So you were lying when you told us you didn't know Darian?
00:27:17Did you meet with him?
00:27:19Yes
00:27:20A few days ago
00:27:22He confirmed that Ashley had rented this little place he has down on the beach
00:27:26That so?
00:27:27That so?
00:27:28So she was definitely here
00:27:31She'd arrived a few months ago at the start of October
00:27:35He still had all the paperwork
00:27:36But he said that she'd moved on a few days ago and he didn't know where
00:27:41So what was Darian doing turning up at your villa in the early hours yesterday?
00:27:45I don't know
00:27:47I really don't
00:27:48How much do the others know about this?
00:27:50Nothing, they don't know anything
00:27:51They think they're on a works do
00:27:53Not even your son?
00:27:54No, not even Neil
00:27:56So then the only person who knew Darian and therefore wanted him killed was you?
00:28:00No
00:28:01I swear I didn't
00:28:03I can see how this looks
00:28:06But I didn't shoot him
00:28:08I don't
00:28:09I need to take this
00:28:16Commissioner, you got something?
00:28:18Inspector
00:28:19Inspector
00:28:20I've searched Ashley Simms' flat and emailed you over some photographs
00:28:23I'm afraid there is little of use to your investigation
00:28:26I think she cleared out her flat before she flew to the Caribbean
00:28:30Okay
00:28:31Thanks anyway, sir
00:28:32Now, if that is everything
00:28:34I'm going to catch my train and enjoy the rest of my Christmas
00:28:38Yeah, you have a good one, sir
00:28:40And you, Inspector
00:28:41And you
00:28:50Thank you for your help, Miss Woods
00:28:52I didn't do anything really
00:28:55And you're nothing if not efficient
00:28:58So
00:29:01What are your plans for Christmas?
00:29:03I'm spending it with my daughter and her partner
00:29:06They rented a cottage up in the Yorkshire Dales
00:29:10Oh, it's lovely up there
00:29:11So, I'm told
00:29:13I better
00:29:14I'm flying solo this Christmas
00:29:16I mean
00:29:17That's how it's been since Mum passed
00:29:19Just me, myself and I
00:29:21Sorry
00:29:22I really
00:29:23Oh, no, no, no
00:29:24I rather enjoy it, actually
00:29:25You know, there's no family arguments
00:29:27I can eat what I like, watch what I want on the telly
00:29:31Christmas alone is underrated, I say
00:29:34Indeed
00:29:35No, I really don't want to miss my train
00:29:43Goodbye, Mr. Patterson
00:29:45Goodbye
00:29:46And Merry Christmas
00:29:48And a very Merry Christmas to you
00:29:51Bye
00:29:54Four passengers on platform
00:29:56One
00:29:57Awaiting the
00:29:58Three
00:29:59Fifteen
00:30:00Two
00:30:01Please be aware that due to
00:30:02Frost on the line
00:30:04This train is now delayed
00:30:06Please wait for further announcements
00:30:21So, immigration confirmed Ashley Simms arrived on the island two months ago
00:30:31But they have no record of her ever leaving
00:30:33So, in theory, she's still here
00:30:39Okay, Officer Rose
00:30:40I want you to check the harbours
00:30:41I want you to check the harbours
00:30:42See if anyone matching Ashley's description was taken to one of the other islands in the last few days
00:30:45Ashley Harbour last few days, got you
00:30:47Check the hotels, holiday rentals, guest houses on the island
00:30:50Hotels, rentals, guest houses, got you
00:30:52You need to do whatever it takes to find it, you understand?
00:30:55Cool, totally getting you right now, Inspector
00:30:57I guess that means we're working Christmas Day then
00:31:00Obviously
00:31:01It's a murder investigation
00:31:02And we need to find out who did it
00:31:04Right
00:31:05Only
00:31:06That's a lot of work for Seb to do by himself over Christmas
00:31:09Well, my mother has a whole church thing going on
00:31:12And everybody else is busy, so
00:31:14It's cool
00:31:15There you go
00:31:16Sorted
00:31:19Thanks, Seb
00:31:20No worries
00:31:21See you in a bit
00:31:24I'll let my parents know I won't
00:31:26Be flying home this evening
00:31:28Appreciate it
00:31:30Ashley Simms aside
00:31:31We still don't have a scooby
00:31:32How the killer made the gun they shot Darian with
00:31:35Disappeared from that villa
00:31:36Then reappear in a locked desk drawer back in the UK
00:31:42And that?
00:31:43Blitzen?
00:31:44What's that about?
00:31:45Unless it has nothing to do with Darian's murder, sir
00:31:48And it is just a co-
00:31:50You don't believe in coincidences
00:31:53I mean, in what circumstance does someone write the name of one of Santa's reindeer on the palm of their hand?
00:32:02Are you doing all right, sir?
00:32:05After last night
00:32:06Look, if Solomon doesn't want to get in touch, I'm cool with that
00:32:10Well...
00:32:11DS Thomas
00:32:12I'd rather we didn't talk about it anymore
00:32:14All right?

00:32:28I'm sorry?
00:32:29The service replacing the service that got cancelled also got cancelled?
00:32:33Yeah, that's about the sound of it

00:36:05Commissioner, morning. This is a surprise.
00:36:18Inspector, have you seen that video Officer Rose has put on social media?
00:36:24It's deeply inappropriate.
00:36:26Would you like another sherry, Selwyn?
00:36:30No. Thank you.
00:36:33Wow, is that... Is that the receptionist?
00:36:38Marjorie Dolls. I'm spending Christmas Day with her.
00:36:42Well, I'm glad you two hit it off. Good for you, sir.
00:36:44It's not like that, Inspector. I got stock in Swindon. There were no trains to Leeds.
00:36:50OK.
00:36:50Look, just take that video down.
00:36:53No disrespect, sir, but it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:36:57Just sort it, Inspector.
00:37:03Yeah, I've got his bank statement in front of me.
00:37:11That's great. Could you email it over?
00:37:13I'll do that right away.
00:37:14Cheers.
00:37:14Literally every tree.
00:37:26Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:30Actually since have you seen us?
00:37:32Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:37All right! I'm coming!
00:37:39I've got a lead. A possible suspect for Darian St. Julesy's murder.
00:37:47I need to go and talk with him now.
00:37:49Merry Christmas, sir.
00:37:53Oh, um...
00:37:54Merry Christmas.
00:37:58I'll be right with you.
00:37:59Our financial checks show that two days ago, you wired £100,000 from this island to your bank account back in England.
00:38:18No, he didn't.
00:38:24What?
00:38:26You want to tell us where you got that money from?
00:38:28What did you do, Liam?
00:38:30Yes, Neil. What did you do?
00:38:33I followed you.
00:38:35Why?
00:38:36You were acting so weird.
00:38:38A few days ago, when you went off by yourself, I knew that it had to be about the money that Ashley had taken.
00:38:44I'm sorry.
00:38:45I couldn't understand why you didn't tell me.
00:38:47And I know you were just trying to protect me, Mum.
00:38:49I was worried about you.
00:38:51I was just trying to help.
00:38:52So I waited until the guy, Darian, had left.
00:38:59Door was unlocked, so I let myself in.
00:39:01There wasn't anything I could find.
00:39:03Until I found an old biscuit tin.
00:39:06It was full of money.
00:39:07And what did you think?
00:39:09When you opened it and saw £100,000 in cash inside?
00:39:12Well, I still think that it was money that belonged to the company.
00:39:16I mean, why else would this local fisherman have that much money in sterling in his house?
00:39:21And that's why you took it?
00:39:22Because it was money that Ashley had stolen from us.
00:39:24From Mum.
00:39:28And I don't want to see her lose everything.
00:39:32Oh, she'd already lost my dad.
00:39:34Sweet.
00:39:34All right.
00:39:40Okay.
00:39:42So, fast forward to the morning you're due to leave the island, yeah?
00:39:46And our victim turns up at 5.30.
00:39:50We've been trying to work out why he went there that morning.
00:39:53But what if he realised that you stole from him and came to confront you about it?
00:39:58No.
00:40:00On my life, I didn't even see him that morning.
00:40:03It's aftershave.
00:40:04It's yours, right?
00:40:05Ravage Mystique.
00:40:06Yeah?
00:40:07Why?
00:40:08This is the exact same aftershave Darian was wearing.
00:40:11The morning of the murder.
00:40:13Right?
00:40:16You're not suggesting that this is evidence I shot him.
00:40:18Why would I kill someone and then spray him with my own aftershave?
00:40:22Achoo!
00:40:26Darian definitely smelt of this when we found him.
00:40:29But why?
00:40:32What if...
00:40:34There was another smell the killer was trying to hide.
00:40:37You know?
00:40:37A bit like a bin man.
00:40:40Yeah, but...
00:40:40What?
00:40:43Neil's right.
00:40:44It's not enough.
00:40:46Some Christmas this is.
00:40:47Oh, come here.
00:40:49Give your mum a hug.
00:40:53Oh, hey, I'm sorry.
00:40:57Oh, no.
00:40:59Not now, Marjorie.
00:41:00Hi, this is Helen Dugdale's phone.
00:41:03Please leave a message after the tone.
00:41:04I'll call you back.
00:41:06Hello, Helen.
00:41:07It's Marjorie.
00:41:08I'm burning to wish you a Merry Christmas.
00:41:11We're about to have our lunch,
00:41:12and I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you.
00:41:16Hope everything sorts itself out soon.
00:41:18What?
00:41:18Oh, come here.
00:41:20Hmm?
00:41:26Dinner is served.
00:41:33This looks wonderful.
00:41:38Here's to a Merry Christmas.
00:41:43Merry Christmas.
00:41:49Right then. Tuck in.
00:41:54I would like to offer you an apology, Miss Dodds.
00:41:59Oh, Marjorie, please. There's really no need for an apology.
00:42:03Oh, there is.
00:42:05You've been nothing but gracious and welcoming for the last couple of days.
00:42:09While I, I've been nothing but, um, rowdy.
00:42:15No, no, I wouldn't go that far.
00:42:19Though, I did sense you weren't very happy.
00:42:25Is it to do with your old job?
00:42:27What makes you ask that?
00:42:29I don't know. It's just, when we first met,
00:42:32the way you said you were retired,
00:42:34it was like you weren't entirely comfortable with it.
00:42:38My superiors back on St. Marie,
00:42:41they tried to get rid of me
00:42:43after 50 years of doing a job I loved.
00:42:47In the end, I... I just walked away.
00:42:55Oh, I know what it's like.
00:42:57I'm just silly old Marjorie on reception.
00:43:01Don't even get invited to the Christmas party they're having out there.
00:43:04I'm sorry.
00:43:07And I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
00:43:16Look at us.
00:43:18Moving like this on Christmas Day.
00:43:21When you cook this feast for us,
00:43:24we should be enjoying ourselves.
00:43:26Here.
00:43:28Will you do me the pleasure?
00:43:30Oh, well, if you insist.
00:43:33Oh!
00:43:34I won!
00:43:35I won!
00:43:37Oh!
00:43:38Where's it gone?
00:43:39Where's it gone?
00:43:40No!
00:43:44Oh, there it is.
00:43:45It's a tiny little sewing kit.
00:43:47All right.
00:43:52All right.
00:43:53Let me check with the inspector.
00:43:55Okay.
00:43:56Speak to you soon.
00:43:57All right.
00:43:59Hey!
00:44:01Merry Christmas, guys.
00:44:02Merry Christmas, Seth.
00:44:04Now, where are we at with the search for Ashley Sims?
00:44:08So, B&Bs, hotels, guest horses, nobody's heard from her.
00:44:13And no one's called in with a sighting either.
00:44:15It's like she's vanished into thin air.
00:44:16Oh, and Katherine just called.
00:44:18She said she can still squeeze us in for her Christmas Day lunch,
00:44:21but it's her last sitting, so we have to go now.
00:44:24Are we still asking ourselves,
00:44:25how was Darian shot with a bullet, fired from a gun,
00:44:29locked in a drawer in Swindon at the time that it happened?
00:44:33And what has Blitzen got to do with all of this?
00:44:37Are you coming, sir?
00:44:40Well, yeah, you guys go.
00:44:41I'll just keep working.
00:44:43Are you sure, sir?
00:44:45Wait a minute.
00:44:47What are these?
00:44:49Oh, those are the invices, sir, you know?
00:44:51Put a stuff for organized to help find Ashley Sims.
00:44:54You have posters, adverts for TV and radio, and...
00:44:58There's over $1,000 that we owe.
00:44:59We can't afford this.
00:45:00Well...
00:45:01Well, how big do you think our budget was?
00:45:03It's only because you said whatever it takes.
00:45:05Yeah, but not this much.
00:45:07I mean, what were you thinking?
00:45:08All right, let's...
00:45:10Let's calm it.
00:45:14Seb, why don't you head over to Catherine's,
00:45:16and I'll catch up with you.
00:45:17With respect, he's just doing his best to help.
00:45:28And he's given up his Christmas to do it, sir.
00:45:34Look, I know the case is frustrating, and you've got other things on your mind.
00:45:37What other things?
00:45:39Well...
00:45:40Your brother not calling.
00:45:42What?
00:45:43That's not bothering me.
00:45:45It isn't.
00:45:46It isn't?
00:45:47No, it isn't!
00:45:48Yes, it is!
00:45:49Of course it is!
00:45:51And I really wish you'd just admit that, rather than pretending like you don't care when you so clearly care!
00:46:07Just don't take it out on the rest of us.
00:46:37Well...
00:46:40Joyeux Noël, Camille.
00:46:45And to little Chloe.
00:46:47Her grandmother is missing her today.
00:46:50Has she opened a present yet?
00:46:51No, not yet.
00:46:53One moment, Camille.
00:46:55Yes, okay.
00:47:03No Mervyn?
00:47:07No, not yet.
00:47:37We can stay here.
00:48:04Oh!
00:48:07Inspector, everything all right?
00:48:10I'm feeling bad, sir, about messing up your Christmas.
00:48:13I'm sorry you couldn't get to spend it with your daughter.
00:48:15It's not your fault.
00:48:16If anyone's to blame, it's the British transport system,
00:48:20which I am told is not uncommon.
00:48:22I mean, I'd like to say you get used to it by be lying.
00:48:26Just a minute.
00:48:37Is that the sea?
00:48:43I can't hear.
00:48:44Yeah.
00:48:45I'm at the shack.
00:48:47It's beautiful out here.
00:48:49It's a really clear night,
00:48:51but then all nights are like that here, aren't they?
00:48:53The moon here is a little more grey
00:48:56than I remember it in Saint Marie.
00:49:07I'm just wondering if I made a mistake staying on in Saint Marie.
00:49:11Why?
00:49:12Because I know I'm not good when I put myself on the line.
00:49:16I feel like I'm just hanging around, waiting.
00:49:20Your brother?
00:49:23Yeah.
00:49:27I don't think he wants to get in touch.
00:49:33I'm sorry, it's not really your problem anymore, is it, whether I stay or go?
00:49:36It still feels like it is.
00:49:43Inspector.
00:49:44If you are not sure what to do,
00:49:46the only advice I can offer is that
00:49:49you put your trust in that island.
00:49:53I did for most of my life.
00:49:57And in return,
00:49:59it delivered me true happiness.
00:50:02If Saint Marie won't bring your brother to you,
00:50:10then perhaps it will bring you someone or something else.
00:50:19Be patient.
00:50:23Yeah, well, you know patience isn't my forte, right?
00:50:27I know.
00:50:29But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
00:50:31Might I suggest
00:50:33you focus on solving that case you have.
00:50:39You're missed here, you know?
00:50:41Good night, Inspector.
00:50:42Good night, Inspector.
00:50:43Good night, Inspector.
00:50:47Good night, Inspector.
00:50:49Good night, Inspector.
00:50:52Good night, Inspector.
00:50:54Blitzen, why Blitzen?
00:51:24Officer Rose. Inspector. What's up?
00:51:29I wanted to come and say I'm sorry for spending all that money you don't have in your budget.
00:51:34So, I wanted to pay it back.
00:51:41There's $322.86 in there, which I took from my savings.
00:51:46I mean, it's all my savings, but that's cool.
00:51:50And if you deduct $20 from my wages each month, you should be paid back in about two years, I reckon.
00:51:59Officer Rose. You've got a good heart. Anyone ever tell you that?
00:52:06Well, my auntie. Like, all the time. You know?
00:52:13Take this. You don't have to pay anything back.
00:52:17We'll find it in the budget.
00:52:19And there's no need to apologise, alright?
00:52:22In fact, I should apologise for blazing at you like that.
00:52:25What you did was, erm, was really good work.
00:52:32Anyway, come on. I've got a new lead. Let's go and wait DS Thomas up.
00:52:42He can't keep doing this.
00:52:43Happy Boxing Day DS Thomas.
00:52:48Listen, erm...
00:52:50I want to apologise.
00:52:53For losing it and ruining Christmas.
00:52:57I'll make it up to you.
00:52:59I promise.
00:53:02And you were right about me taking it out on you because of Solomon.
00:53:07I just really wanted it. You know?
00:53:14I'm sorry too.
00:53:17Good morning, Sarge!
00:53:20The inspector tell you the good news yet?
00:53:22He's only going to make a big breakthrough in the case.
00:53:26Which is a big relief.
00:53:27Because I was drawing a blank.
00:53:29You have tea?
00:53:31So I've been going through Darien St. George's phone records.
00:53:34And he phoned someone the day before he was murdered.
00:53:38A friend of his called Trishawn King.
00:53:40Now he was over on Montserrat for Christmas.
00:53:43So I asked Darlene to speak with him.
00:53:46Darlene?
00:53:47Last night?
00:53:48Yeah.
00:53:49And how was she with that?
00:53:51Er, you know, she was... she was cool with it.
00:53:54Inspector, it's Christmas Day.
00:53:57What in God's name do you think you're doing?
00:53:59Anyway, it turned out Darien feared for his life and was asking Trishawn where he can get hold of a gun for protection.
00:54:11He thought someone was going to kill him.
00:54:14Did he say who?
00:54:15Hmm.
00:54:16But he did say he was caught up in something he shouldn't have.
00:54:18And get this, he thought the woman he was trying to help had been murdered.
00:54:22Now I'm caught up in it all.
00:54:24And now he was worried that he was going to suffer the same fate.
00:54:27Whoa, wait.
00:54:29Darien told Trishawn he thought Ashley Simms was murdered?
00:54:33But it would explain why no one's seen her the last few days.
00:54:35So then, if this is true, that means that whoever killed Ashley Simms probably also murdered Darien St. George.
00:54:42To silence him.
00:54:44So what we need to start looking for now is anyone who had a reason to kill Ashley Simms.
00:54:49But both Helen and Neil Dogdale to start with.
00:54:52Ashley stole half a million pounds from their company.
00:54:55And...
00:54:57There's someone else as well.
00:55:04We've been looking at your phone records.
00:55:06And these, Miss Hickson, are text messages from you to Ashley Simms just before she came out here.
00:55:12You'll regret ever meeting me.
00:55:14Stay away from my boyfriend or else I'm not afraid to hurt you.
00:55:19The list goes on.
00:55:22Care to explain?
00:55:24They had a thing, right?
00:55:27Gavin and Ashley.
00:55:28They had a thing behind my back.
00:55:30Sort of.
00:55:32Sort of?
00:55:35Yeah, like it wasn't like a real thing.
00:55:36Like they never really got together.
00:55:38But he liked her.
00:55:41Yeah.
00:55:43God knows why.
00:55:45She was weird.
00:55:46But I think Gav liked that about her.
00:55:48And he called things off between us.
00:55:50And that's when I started warning her off.
00:55:55Guess I just got a bit carried away.
00:55:57I just...
00:55:59I just didn't want to lose him.
00:56:01And you didn't.
00:56:03Now that Ashley's conveniently disappeared,
00:56:06you've got Gavin to yourself now, haven't you?
00:56:08What?
00:56:10Is that what you think? That I killed her?
00:56:15No, I wouldn't.
00:56:17I didn't.
00:56:19It'll be about Gavin.
00:56:21We need to tell him what we know.
00:56:23But Ashley called things off with Gav.
00:56:26Why would I kill her?
00:56:27Inspector.
00:56:29You need to hear the truth.
00:56:31What?
00:56:32And I'm afraid you're not going to get that from her.
00:56:34No disrespect, Karen.
00:56:36Yo, come on, man.
00:56:38What are you saying?
00:56:39Whatever she's told you, it's ten times worse.
00:56:41Neil, what are you saying?
00:56:42Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:56:43You've had your chance.
00:56:44Go on.
00:56:46He had a thing for Ashley.
00:56:48Is that it?
00:56:49We already know.
00:56:50No, it was more than that.
00:56:51Gavin was obsessed.
00:56:53When Ashley said they couldn't see each other anymore,
00:56:55he had to take time off work.
00:56:57And I've seen the posters you've been putting up.
00:56:58If Ashley's gone missing, then I'm telling you,
00:57:01it'll have something to do with Gavin.
00:57:03Inspector!
00:57:04Someone's just broken into the villa where Darion was shut.
00:57:16I've had a lot of stuff that night.
00:57:17I've gone down for a while, and I'm sure I had to go back to the villa.
00:57:18He didn't go back and see which she knows.
00:57:19I'm sorry.
00:57:20I missed a ihm.
00:57:21I have no idea.
00:57:22I have no idea.
00:57:23But look on the villa.
00:57:24I think there was a man's just going to be there.
00:57:25I'm gonna look in the villa.
00:57:26That's what you're getting there.
00:57:27You're getting there.
00:57:29Okay, man.
00:57:31This morning, I'll be a little bit dry.
00:57:32Mr. Bradbury, this doesn't look good at all.
00:57:58But then I don't think you need me to tell you that.
00:58:06You want to start by telling us what we're going to find in that pool you've just emptied?
00:58:10And we know it's not the gun used to kill Darien St. Jules because that's currently sitting
00:58:14in a police station somewhere in Swindon.
00:58:16So what's down there?
00:58:17Why have you come back to the crime scene, Gavin?
00:58:19What's so important?
00:58:20Inspector!
00:58:21Found something.
00:58:24What is it?
00:58:25A bullet.
00:58:26One that's been fired.
00:58:33Why is there a bullet in the pool, Gav?
00:58:36It's like a keepsake and something to remember Ashley by.
00:58:46A bullet?
00:58:47There are other things that I've got of hers as well, like...
00:58:52More like normal things.
00:58:53I'm really not interested in those, funny enough.
00:58:57Ashley, she's...
00:58:59She's not like anyone I've ever met before.
00:59:01Like, it was exciting being around her.
00:59:03And her life was so different to mine.
00:59:06Yeah, I hear that.
00:59:07The bullet?
00:59:08The bullet?
00:59:09Yeah.
00:59:10She has a gun.
00:59:13She was looking after it as a favour for someone that she knew from prison.
00:59:17And she...
00:59:18Well...
00:59:19We went out to the woods one day and she let me fire it.
00:59:23It was amazing, right?
00:59:24It was...
00:59:25You know, like exhilarating.
00:59:27And I went and got one of the bullets.
00:59:29You know, like I said, that I would keep it with me.
00:59:31To remind me of her.
00:59:32And they say romance is dead.
00:59:36So, why did it end up in the pool?
00:59:39I panicked.
00:59:40When there was that dead guy and Neil called the police.
00:59:44I was worried that if you found it, you'd think it was me that shot him.
00:59:48So, I took it out and I was wondering what to do and...
00:59:53I dropped it.
00:59:55It fell in the pool.
00:59:57And the more you were sniffing around, the more I started to worry that you'd find it.
01:00:00So, I came back and I...
01:00:05So, you loved Ashley then?
01:00:08Yeah, I guess, yeah.
01:00:11Must have really hurt when she ended things.
01:00:15Gavin.
01:00:16We believe Ashley Simms was murdered on this island in the last few days.
01:00:21What? No.
01:00:22What? If she can't be?
01:00:23I'm kind of wondering if maybe you did it.
01:00:25Me?
01:00:27Why would I kill Ashley?
01:00:29Because you couldn't have her.
01:00:30And it hurt like hell.
01:00:31No, no, no, no.
01:00:32You've got this wrong.
01:00:33I didn't kill her.
01:00:35Like all that man.
01:00:37You seem a bit edgy, Gavin.
01:00:40Is there something you aren't telling us?
01:00:42There's nothing.
01:00:45Really, there is nothing.
01:00:53Paradise Corp Hotel, please.
01:01:01What is it that he's not saying?
01:01:02No.
01:01:09Hey, this is Ashley's phone. You know what to do.
01:01:11Ashley, it's me.
01:01:13We need to talk. I'm worried about you.
01:01:16The police have been asking questions and I think they know about us, so...
01:01:20Just let me know what you want me to do, yeah?
01:01:23Please call me back.
01:01:25I love you.
01:01:26You all right, sir?
01:01:27You seem I've been tense.
01:01:30I just can't work this one out.
01:01:31I mean, we've got one potential murder victim whose body we haven't found, another murder victim whose body we have found, but that murder weapon was locked in a death drawer on the other side of the world when that murder took place.
01:01:41I mean, where do we even start?
01:01:42I mean, where do we even start?
01:01:43Well, sounds like you need to go get a little shoulder up, you know? Release some of that tension.
01:01:47No, you all right, Officer Rose?
01:01:48No. You all right, Officer Rose?
01:01:49This guy again.
01:01:51Listen, mate, I told you before, I'm not interested in upgrading to another phone, so stop calling me, eh?
01:01:57I don't know.
01:01:58You're right, Officer Rose.
01:01:59You're right.
01:02:00And I'll get a little shoulder up, and get a little shoulder up.
01:02:02No, you're all right, Officer Rose.
01:02:05Oh, no.
01:02:06No, no, no, no.
01:02:07No, no, no.
01:02:08No, no, no, no, no, no.
01:02:10No, no, no.
01:02:11No, no, no, no.
01:02:12No, no, no, no.
01:02:13No, no.
01:02:14No, no, no, no, no.
01:02:15No, no, no, no.
01:02:16Is that Mervyn Wilson?
01:02:18Yeah, it's still Mervyn Wilson, and I'm still not interested.
01:02:21It's me, Solomon. Your brother.
01:02:30Are you there, Mervyn?
01:02:34Mervyn?
01:02:36Yes. Yes, he's here. Don't hang up.
01:02:46Uh, Solomon?
01:02:54It's Mervyn.
01:02:56Yeah, you should always know that.
01:03:00Look, mate, I'm sorry. I just wasn't expecting your call.
01:03:04Yeah, I know.
01:03:06I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but it was, you know.
01:03:11No, no, no, mate, I totally understand, yeah?
01:03:14I mean, so it's a process, right?
01:03:17But, um, hey, you're calling now, aren't you?
01:03:20Yeah, man, it's a process.
01:03:22But I'm glad to be calling now.
01:03:28Are you still there?
01:03:30Mervyn?
01:03:32Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
01:03:34Um...
01:03:37Look, um, Solomon, I'm really, really sorry to do this to you,
01:03:42I'm so glad you called and that we're finally speaking.
01:03:45And I really, really want us to talk again, but...
01:03:50Right now, there's something I need to do, yeah?
01:03:54Yeah, man, no problem. Go to our tune.
01:03:58That was quick.
01:03:59Officer Rose, that billboard, you did that, right?
01:04:02Yes, sir, I did.
01:04:04But you should already have the invoice for that.
01:04:07It's not going to cost any extra.
01:04:08No, no, no, I don't care about the cost.
01:04:09It was worth every penny.
01:04:10C-c-come, come look.
01:04:11You see, all along we've been looking at Ashley's footage on phone screens and laptops, yeah?
01:04:23Well, they were too small.
01:04:25I don't understand.
01:04:28You see where Ashley is?
01:04:30This is a still from the video she made.
01:04:32And in the background, there's a ship passing by.
01:04:35Now, before that was just a speck, but now you've blown it up.
01:04:39Look at it.
01:04:40What about the ship?
01:04:42Look at what it's called.
01:04:44Blitzen.
01:04:46Blitzen.
01:04:47Blitzen.
01:04:48Blitzen!
01:04:49Yeah?
01:04:50Now we know.
01:04:52Oh, Officer Rose, if you were so tall, I'd kiss you.
01:04:57Why would Darian write the name of that ship on his hands?
01:05:00Well, he obviously saw the footage himself and then, um, he saw something in it.
01:05:06But what?
01:05:13Blitzen?
01:05:14It's like she's vanished into thin airs.
01:05:15It's why I've come here.
01:05:16I thought I was helping someone.
01:05:19You know what?
01:05:20I think I'm starting to work out what went down here.
01:05:24But I need to make a phone call.
01:05:26And you need to get onto airport security.
01:05:28Come on.
01:05:32All right, mate.
01:05:33Much appreciated.
01:05:34Cheers.
01:05:36Wow.
01:05:37What's wow?
01:05:41So, that ship behind Ashley Sims,
01:05:44it's owned by a Scandinavian container shipping company.
01:05:47Now, we know from the information on that footage, Ashley recorded it on the 4th of October, right?
01:05:52Right.
01:05:53Well, check this.
01:05:55The Blitzen was passing by the south coast of England on the 4th of October.
01:05:59Thousands of miles from the Caribbean.
01:06:01So, Ashley recorded that video on a beach back in the UK.
01:06:05Which means she was never even here.
01:06:08Inspector, the airport just emailed over security camera footage the day Ashley Sims arrived on the island.
01:06:14Wait.
01:06:15She was here?
01:06:16Thank you for a wonderful Christmas, Marjorie.
01:06:17Oh, it's been lovely.
01:06:18Let me give you a hand with that.
01:06:19Oh, don't be daft.
01:06:20You don't know where anything goes.
01:06:21Then you can tell me.
01:06:22It's the least I can do.
01:06:23Living room.
01:06:24Sideboard drawer.
01:06:25Living room.
01:06:26Sideboard drawer.
01:06:27Living room.
01:06:28Sideboard drawer.
01:06:30But if Ashley Sims has never been here before, why do immigration records show that she has?
01:06:45Because someone else came pretending to be Ashley. Presumably on a fake passport.
01:06:49And that someone paid Darian 100k to lie and say Ashley rented his property for the past few months.
01:06:54But why would they do that?
01:06:56To misdirect and confuse anyone looking for her.
01:06:59Because they'd already killed Ashley and taken the money.
01:07:03So one of our four suspects has been here three months previously.
01:07:06Which is why we're going through this footage because it will show who was pretending to be Ashley Sims.
01:07:13There.
01:07:14Why didn't I see that before?
01:07:16Why I've come here to try and understand why I hurt people.
01:07:20No, it was more than that. Gavin was obsessed.
01:07:23Of course.
01:07:24After that nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
01:07:27So it's got to be one of these four who shot Darren St. Jules.
01:07:31You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
01:07:34You didn't hear the gunshot?
01:07:35It's like Helen said, you know, the room out here is stronger than you used to.
01:07:38What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
01:07:42It makes perfect sense now.
01:07:44For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
01:07:46The commissioner found a gun locked in the desk drawer at Dougdale's offices back in the UK.
01:07:50We need to call the commissioner.
01:07:52The commissioner?
01:07:53The commissioner?
01:07:54Why?
01:07:55Because he's with the killer as we speak.
01:07:57Come on, sir.
01:07:58Pick up.
01:07:59And what about these ones?
01:08:00Same drawer.
01:08:01Ah.
01:08:02I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:04I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:09The commissioner?
01:08:09Oh, come on, sir?
01:08:10Pick up.
01:08:11I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:15Oh, come on.
01:08:17Come on, sir.
01:08:18Pick up.
01:08:19And what about these ones?
01:08:23Same drawer.
01:08:24Ah.
01:08:25I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:28Oh, come on.
01:08:37I said the same draw.
01:08:48No.
01:08:54That necklace, the stone is lithmer, unique to St. Marie.
01:09:00You told me you always wanted to go to the Caribbean like you've never been.
01:09:07You were lying.
01:09:11No, no, Selwyn.
01:09:13It was you that went to St. Marie three months ago.
01:09:18If Ashley never went then, is she dead?
01:09:22Oh, I'm sorry.
01:09:24I didn't mean to.
01:09:26It just happened.
01:09:29Miss Dawes.
01:09:30Miss, I think you should put the knife down, no.
01:09:42Please.
01:09:43Miss, that video she made, it wasn't in the Caribbean, was it?
01:09:57Bournemouth.
01:09:58Miss, on a Sunday she'd, she'd gone to the seaside.
01:10:04She realised she'd made a mistake stealing that money, didn't she?
01:10:09Then she wanted to give the money back and send the video as an apology.
01:10:15I want to say sorry.
01:10:17I don't know why I keep doing this.
01:10:18Miss Simms didn't leave the country.
01:10:23I'd gone in to the office that day to deal with an order that had gone wrong.
01:10:28It wasn't my fault.
01:10:30But I was the one who had to go in and fix it.
01:10:33And then when I let myself in, I found Ashley there and I knew, I knew straight away what the money was.
01:10:41You overhear a lot when you sit at reception all day.
01:10:45I knew it was you.
01:10:47And I went to call the police.
01:10:49Wait, I'm giving the money back, Marjorie.
01:10:52Don't.
01:10:53Please.
01:10:55I'm calling the police now.
01:10:57Don't do this to me.
01:10:58You're not.
01:10:59And Ashley tried to stop me.
01:11:01I won't let you, Marjorie.
01:11:03Get off me.
01:11:04Pushed her off me and...
01:11:11And I wasn't even supposed to be in that day.
01:11:24Miss, like I told you, nobody, nobody cares for me there.
01:11:29They just take me for granted and...
01:11:32You sold the money and thought, finally, you could take something back for yourself.
01:11:41All you had to do was dispose of the body.
01:11:48Where?
01:11:55In my back garden.
01:12:01And then you made a fake passport in Ashley's name.
01:12:05Oh, that wasn't hard, you know, with all the kit we've got in the office.
01:12:09You flew on that passport to St. Marie to make it look as if Miss Sims had run away to the other side of the world and rented her property there for the last few months.
01:12:22You know, I really did want to go to the Caribbean.
01:12:28It's just that I never had the chance or the money until...
01:12:33And if you were going to misdirect from what really happened here, in Swindon, where the dead body was, then the farther away, the better.
01:12:45And no-one would realise...
01:12:47..until things started to go wrong and you received a phone call.
01:12:58You're saying Marjorie killed Ashley Sims?
01:13:09Our receptionist, that Marjorie?
01:13:11That Marjorie.
01:13:12Yes, Marjorie Dodds, the receptionist, killed Ashley Sims in England and made it look as if she ran away to the Caribbean with your 500k.
01:13:20Oh, my. I did not see that coming.
01:13:23So, which one of us shot the man found in our swimming pool?
01:13:27It wasn't any of you.
01:13:29But it had to be. You said so. No-one else was here.
01:13:32Yeah, you're right. I did say that.
01:13:34But what I didn't know then was that Darian St. Jules wasn't shot at your villa.
01:13:39It just looked like he was.
01:13:41That's why no gunshot was heard, because there wasn't one.
01:13:45He'd already been shot.
01:13:51We know now from our colleague in the UK that Marjorie had paid Darian money.
01:13:56She came to the island three months ago on a forged passport and she gave him £100,000 to lie and cover if anyone ever came to the island asking after Ashley.
01:14:07She'd convinced him he was doing a favour for a very vulnerable friend of hers.
01:14:12But when you visited him a few days ago, Mrs. Dogdale, asking questions, mentioning the missing £500,000,
01:14:18Darian started to wonder what he'd gotten himself involved in.
01:14:22And when he re-watched that footage more closely, the footage of Ashley you'd shown him as an experienced fisherman who knew the waters off St. Marie very well, something about it bothered him.
01:14:33Zooming in, he was able to read the name of the boat Blitzen. He knew this was not a St. Marie vessel.
01:14:39He worked out that the video of Ashley was actually shot in the UK.
01:14:47And having heard from you, Mrs. Dogdale, that Ashley went missing with £500,000 of your money,
01:14:53Darian started to realise that Ashley had never been to the island. He'd only ever met Marjorie.
01:14:58So, he phoned Ms. Dodds, asking what was going on.
01:15:08We need to talk.
01:15:09Listen, Darian, you've got this all wrong.
01:15:13All throughout this case, we thought Darian's killer had to be one of you four.
01:15:19The one person we never suspected was Marjorie Dodds.
01:15:23It was all the way back in Swindon. Or so we thought.
01:15:26With Darian threatening to go to the police, Marjorie asked him to hang fire.
01:15:31And she would fly out here and speak to him in person.
01:15:34Marjorie was here? On this island? At the exact same time we were?
01:15:37Yeah. She arrived the night before Darian was shot and flew back to the UK the next morning.
01:15:42Unable to convince Darian to keep quiet and carry on with the lie, Marjorie started to grow desperate.
01:15:49Worried he'd tell the police.
01:15:51I can give you more money. How much? Just tell me and I'll give it to you.
01:15:55We know Darian was searching around for a gun, for self-protection.
01:16:00I just want you to leave. Now!
01:16:05He never expected Marjorie would use it against him.
01:16:09After shooting Darian, Marjorie left and headed for the airport.
01:16:24Before getting back on the plane, arriving at Dugdale's offices just in time to meet with our very own Commissioner Patterson.
01:16:30If Marjorie shot Darian at his house, how did he end up at our villa?
01:16:36Marjorie thought she'd killed him. But what she didn't know when she left Darian's place was that he was still alive.
01:16:43It was the fact that he smelled so strongly of someone else's aftershave that helped us work it out.
01:16:51Neil's aftershave, in fact. We thought it was there to cover up another smell that we now know was antiseptic.
01:16:59The stuff used to clean up a wound. Because as soon as Marjorie quit the scene, Darian regained consciousness and patched himself up.
01:17:07As far as he was concerned, the bullet was just lodged in his shoulder. It wasn't life-threatening.
01:17:12So he put on a fresh T-shirt and headed off to the hospital to get it properly seen to.
01:17:18But on the way, it passed your villa, which was just half a mile down the road.
01:17:23And I think Darian intended to alert you to what had gone down.
01:17:27He stopped here to tell you the truth about Ashley and to warn you about what Marjorie had done.
01:17:32That's why he came here that morning. To tell you what your colleague had done to Ashley and in turn to him.
01:17:39To make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
01:17:42But what Darian didn't know was that his wound was worse than he thought.
01:17:47And he was bleeding internally.
01:17:49And so despite his brave effort to alert you all to the truth, he died here in your villa.
01:17:58But then someone proceeded to stage the scene as if he was shot in this villa.
01:18:06Didn't you, Mr. Bradbury?
01:18:09Me? What? We don't know. Of course not. No.
01:18:13And you did it because Ashley told you to.
01:18:17You're crazy. Ashley, I don't know what you're talking about.
01:18:22Let me have your phone.
01:18:27Gavin, please.
01:18:31It's okay.
01:18:33Unlock it.
01:18:47Bingo.
01:18:48Text messages seemingly from Ashley Simms from the moment she disappeared right up to today.
01:18:54But all of these were sent by Marjorie Dodds.
01:19:00Who kept Ashley's phone after she killed her.
01:19:02What? No. You know, you're wrong. She can't be...
01:19:04You've been texting her?
01:19:05No.
01:19:06This whole time?
01:19:07Karen, I'm sorry. Look, look.
01:19:08No, no.
01:19:09Karen!
01:19:11And here, proof of what happened.
01:19:13Messages exchanged on the morning of Darian's death.
01:19:16Because despite what you told us, Gavin, you were actually the first to discover Darian's body.
01:19:21You knew who Darian was because Ashley had told you all about him.
01:19:28And so you contacted Ashley.
01:19:30Left a message telling her that Darian had turned up to the villa and died.
01:19:34And asking her what was going on.
01:19:37A few minutes later, she, or rather, Marjorie, texted back.
01:19:43See, Marjorie realized that if the police were called and found Darian with his wound patched up,
01:19:49they'd know he was shot somewhere else.
01:19:51And the trail would lead right back to her.
01:19:55So, she had to do two things.
01:19:57First, she texted you with instructions.
01:20:00Second, she had to clear up the real scene of the crime.
01:20:03Marjorie's confessed to her colleague in the UK that she quickly doubled back from the airport
01:20:07and returned to Darian's house before disposing of the gun and the t-shirt he was wearing when she shot him.
01:20:12Meanwhile, you moved the body outside to the swimming pool.
01:20:14There's also a mention here of that bullet you kept as a memento in the text messages you sent to Ashley.
01:20:20Well, that's how Marjorie knew.
01:20:22So, as Ashley, she asked you to remove the bullet she killed Darian with and replace it with the one she knew you had.
01:20:30However, in your haste, you must have dropped the bullet you extracted into the swimming pool.
01:20:39But you knew you could come back and retrieve it later.
01:20:42Once you switched the bullets, the heartbeat was over.
01:20:46You disposed of the dressing, then made a hole in his t-shirt and let the blood around the wound soak in.
01:20:55So now, it looked like Darian had been shot after he entered the villa, not before.
01:21:01The last problem you had was getting rid of that antiseptic smell.
01:21:05Because that stuff lingers, right?
01:21:07And if the police noticed it, we'd certainly be asking who cleaned up the wound and why.
01:21:11So you ran into the bathroom and got hold of some aftershave, kneeled and doused him in it.
01:21:16So now all you had to do was pretend to be asleep when Mrs. Dogdale discovered the body.
01:21:22Gavin, we need to get to the airport. You've got to pack.
01:21:27Leaving us without a Scooby, as to how a man was shot with a gun that was locked in a desk drawer 5,000 miles away in a Swindon warehouse.
01:21:35In the end, it wasn't just the police that Marjorie Dodds had duped. It was you as well, Gavin.
01:21:40You see, you thought you were helping the woman you loved.
01:21:43A woman you'd do anything for when you were actually helping her killer.
01:21:56Officer Rose.
01:22:06Mr. Bradbury, I'm arresting on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
01:22:09You don't need to say anything.
01:22:11But it may harm your defense if you do not mention one question something you later rely on in court.
01:22:16Anything you do say may be used as evidence.
01:22:18I need to know.
01:22:20Why did you come to the train station that night and invite me into your home?
01:22:26Why take that risk?
01:22:29Because I didn't want to spend Christmas on my own again.
01:22:38I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:22:41Inspector?
01:22:43Commissioner?
01:22:44The arrest has been made. I'm pleased to see.
01:22:46Same here. We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:22:48Oh, and are you doing alright?
01:22:50Me?
01:22:51Yes, of course. I'm fine.
01:22:52Merry Christmas, sir.
01:22:53I'm doing fine.
01:22:55We regret to announce that the 1015
01:22:59Same here. We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:23:03Oh, and are you doing all right?
01:23:05Me?
01:23:06Yes, of course. I'm fine.
01:23:09Merry Christmas, sir.
01:23:16I'm doing fine.
01:23:20We regret to announce that the 10-15 to Leeds will be delayed
01:23:26due to a shortage of train staff.
01:23:36Chief Commissioner, it's Selwyn Patterson.
01:23:40And to you, and apologies for calling you during the holidays,
01:23:46but I wanted to know if you'd found my replacement as yet.
01:23:53I see. I've been doing some thinking,
01:24:00and I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the road
01:24:08if it's still vacant.
01:24:12I know it's been a long time since I've been searching
01:24:18since I've been searching
01:24:20since I've been searching
01:24:22to find you
01:24:24The thing is, Harry,
01:24:25the classic Christmas Day Sunday roast lunch
01:24:29is all well and good.
01:24:30But when push comes to shove,
01:24:32the real culinary high point
01:24:34is the turkey and stuffing and sarnie.
01:24:37Because my friend, in my humble opinion,
01:24:40it is one of the greatest delicacies known to mankind.
01:24:45Like bacon and eggs?
01:24:48Oh, yes, Thomas.
01:24:50You're just in time.
01:24:51Come in. Come in.
01:24:54Grab those for me, would you?
01:24:59So, what is this about, sir?
01:25:03I promised I'd make up for spoiling Christmas Day,
01:25:05and that is exactly what I'm doing.
01:25:08Come on.
01:25:13I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
01:25:15What?
01:25:15My front room on the beach.
01:25:17Is that a good idea, do you think?
01:25:19Yeah, why not?
01:25:21So we're watching something.
01:25:22We certainly are, DS Thomas.
01:25:24And not the...
01:25:25The great escape. Yeah.
01:25:30Beers and butties, everyone.
01:25:31And thank you to our local mayor
01:25:34for letting me have the leftovers from the bar.
01:25:37And you've put it all between two slices of bread?
01:25:41Yeah.
01:25:42How English.
01:25:44Excited for this film, Inspector.
01:25:46Sounds dope.
01:25:48Um, sir.
01:25:52Is this really your favourite thing about Christmas?
01:25:56Well, yeah.
01:25:58When I was a little boy, growing up,
01:26:00most times,
01:26:02I didn't know where I was going to end up
01:26:03spending Christmas, right?
01:26:05With a foster family or in a care home.
01:26:10But wherever I ended up,
01:26:12the one constant every Christmas
01:26:14was this film.
01:26:17And it was a...
01:26:18It was a comfort to me.
01:26:20I bet that little boy
01:26:21never thought he'd be here
01:26:23in the Caribbean.
01:26:25all these years later,
01:26:28watching that same film
01:26:30surrounded by his friends.
01:26:37He certainly didn't care for him.
01:26:41So, um...
01:26:42To him.
01:26:46To him.
01:26:47Hmm.
01:26:48Okay, then.
01:26:51Showtime.
01:26:51Yeah.
01:27:02Um...
01:27:02Look, uh...
01:27:03Just give me a few minutes, yeah?
01:27:06Yeah?
01:27:06Solomon, how you doing, man?
01:27:16You got my message, yeah?
01:27:18Um, look...
01:27:20I'm sorry I had to cut you off
01:27:22like that before, yeah?
01:27:24It was just an emergency at work
01:27:26I had to deal with.
01:27:27So,
01:27:28how's your Christmas been?
01:27:31Yeah?
01:27:32Good.
01:27:33Mine, um...
01:27:36Yeah, yeah, it's been really good.
01:27:43Look, um...
01:27:44I don't know how you feel about this,
01:27:47but...
01:27:48I was wondering if you wanted
01:27:50to meet up sometime.
01:27:54Yeah?
01:27:58Yeah, I definitely would like to.
