00:00Camp and they need our help again later on we're gonna stop to the Chadwick camp
00:05Which was part of the same storm got damaged. How are we doing?
00:08How are ya? It's bigger design job. Wow guys, you're missing something. Yeah, the porch
00:13Yes, look at the mold. Camp cheese. Camp cheese. Where would you rather be than with me and your dog?
00:21No way. Oh, Moss is here. What are you doing?
00:24Hey guys. Hello.
00:26Hi. Hey guys.
00:28This looks awesome.
00:42Um, we're plowing now?
00:44Is this our new gig? Plowing?
00:47Yeah, you know winters get slow.
00:49Mother Nature is still winning.
00:51Yeah, winter won't let go and Mother Nature is making sure we all know it.
00:55This feels kind of familiar. Are you uh, bringing me, dropping me off at camp for all the weight I put on this winter?
01:01Checking on the chickens? What's happening here?
01:03Yeah, we're back at the Y camp and they need our help again. So we are back in Winthrop, back on Cobb Sea and back at camp so we already did it.
01:11Well, you guys know we had that storm earlier in the season.
01:15Whoa, look at that! Wow! Look, Triggs, we gotta get out of here.
01:20And it was a bad one.
01:22It was a bad one.
01:23It was a bad one.
01:24It was a bad one.
01:25And unfortunately this side of the lake got hit really hard and a lot of these old pines that were in here came down.
01:32Oh, they had some big pines back here too.
01:34Luckily it's not the buildings we worked on.
01:36There's the new bungalow.
01:38Wow.
01:39It's beautiful.
01:40Later on we're gonna stop down a little further to the Chadwick camp.
01:43Wow, look at the color.
01:45I love the color.
01:46Wow!
01:47Oh my gosh!
01:48I love the color.
01:49It was part of the same storm, got damaged, but we're headed to the Y camp first.
01:52It's a lot of work, but the bigger design job will be at the Chadwick camp.
01:55We're chasing storms.
01:57Chase and Storm.
01:59Introduce yourselves.
02:00I'm Chase.
02:01And I'm Storm.
02:02And we are...
02:03Chase and Storms.
02:04Is Jeff out here today?
02:06Jeff and his family are on vacation.
02:09We are meeting Dawn.
02:10Oh, look at that!
02:11Wow.
02:12That's a major damage, guys.
02:14Oh, there's Dawn.
02:15Hi, my name's Dawn Taylor.
02:17I'm the Chief Volunteer Officer on the Board of Directors.
02:20How we doing?
02:21Welcome back here at the YMCA Camp of Maine.
02:25I wish we didn't have to meet under the circumstances, but after the storm, we had significant damage
02:29to a number of buildings.
02:31Five took significant damage, two of which were completely destroyed.
02:35Oh, really?
02:36Yeah.
02:37So what are we working on?
02:38So we're hoping you guys can come and work on our Somerset and Kennebec Lodges.
02:43These houses are girls.
02:44This is our girls' campus on this side.
02:46Both took direct hits by pine trees.
02:49Oh.
02:50We're looking for roofs.
02:52Assess the structural support.
02:53Mm-hmm.
02:54All the porches we'll need a little bit of tending to.
02:57Yeah.
02:58All the things to get it back so that we can have a successful camp season.
03:03When does your season begin?
03:04Camp season will begin late June, but we do host a number of community events, so we
03:09expect to have campers on campus late May.
03:12Late May.
03:13Okay.
03:14Late May.
03:15Yep.
03:16And are you trying to replicate what's here, maintain the aesthetic that's here, or...?
03:21Absolutely.
03:22We're not looking to upgrade.
03:23We're just looking to maintain the camp aesthetic.
03:26You know, this is a place where hundreds of kids are going to come, have the time of their
03:30lives on the lake, and we're just looking to bring it back to what it was.
03:35Yeah.
03:36So is there any budget for the repair work on this project?
03:40We do have a budget.
03:41Okay.
03:42We have a total of $80,000, $40,000 for each of the lodges.
03:47Okay.
03:48So we've got six weeks to get the Kennebec and Somerset Lodge repaired, watertight, and
03:55ready for campers.
03:56You've got $80,000 for the renovations.
03:59No keys.
04:00The camp is open.
04:01All right.
04:02Fantastic.
04:03Cool.
04:04Appreciate it.
04:05We're fortunate that nobody was injured.
04:06Wow.
04:07Look at that.
04:08And that the only loss was structural.
04:10Tree limb.
04:11A couple of the branches are still.
04:13Oh, yeah.
04:14And we're looking forward to the cabin masters helping us get there.
04:17So this is the hit on this one.
04:18This is the hit on this one.
04:20And you can see inside.
04:21Whoa.
04:22Wow.
04:23You know, we'll have to peel some of this back.
04:26I think pull out, obviously, the branches and whatever we have to.
04:30I think we can sister onto some of the old stuff and get the roof solid enough and then
04:38just, you know, run some new rafters, roof right on top of that.
04:42The Kennebec and Somerset buildings are two of the oldest structures there.
04:46Wow.
04:47On this one, it's really just the porch right here.
04:53We're not going in and renovating, rehabbing the entire structure.
04:57You know, we're not going to try and level everything out.
04:59We're not going to worry about painting the entire thing.
05:01We've just got to get them back into working order.
05:04They're nothing fancy.
05:05They're just places for the kids to go crash.
05:08As long as they're safe and they're not getting wet, they're fine.
05:11That's what camp is here in Maine.
05:13On the interior of the Kennebec cabin, we'll clean out all the debris from the damage,
05:17add structural support where needed, and repair and repine.
05:20On the exterior, we'll patch up the floors, reinforce the porch railings,
05:24new metal roof across all three buildings, and a new set of stairs for the bathhouse.
05:28Well, that was crazy.
05:30Yeah.
05:31If that was a small job, I can't imagine what happened at the Chadwick camp.
05:33All right.
05:34So we got back in the truck and headed down the road up the lake to the Chadwick camp.
05:39It's on the same side of the lake.
05:40We had it up the road down the lake.
05:43Wasn't even a hop, skip, and a jump.
05:46How we doing?
05:47Looks like you've been out deer hunting, Ryan.
05:50Camp hunting.
05:51Camp hunting.
05:52Camp hunting.
05:53Wow, guys.
05:55You're missing something.
05:56Yeah, the porch.
05:57They did our camp originally.
05:59The steps came.
06:00There was a grand staircase that came down.
06:02Oh, yeah.
06:03I remember.
06:04And we thoroughly enjoyed camp because of what you had done with the porch and sprucing
06:08it up on the inside.
06:10Unbelievable.
06:11Oh, my word.
06:14This is incredible.
06:17This looks so...
06:18This is just gorgeous.
06:20It looks so great.
06:21So perfect.
06:22It's beautiful.
06:23Wow.
06:24We had a storm in December that had heavy rains and a lot of wind, and it dumped about
06:30an 80-foot large pine tree on the camp.
06:33So that came through, clipped that branch up there, and this way?
06:37Yeah.
06:38Right straight across.
06:39Just missed the roof.
06:40Just missed it.
06:41By a lot of foot.
06:42That's lucky.
06:43Yeah.
06:44So are we building you a new covered porch?
06:46Yes, please.
06:47But we have a different phase.
06:49Oh.
06:50Maybe take the wall down and make it all one room on the inside.
06:54Oh, wow.
06:55Yeah.
06:56We like to move the door to the side and put some windows all across the front so we have
07:01a grand view of the lake.
07:02Same style.
07:03Gray shakes, black windows.
07:05I would like to, yes.
07:06Yes.
07:07I like the cottage style, camp look, definitely.
07:11So yeah, we came from the YMCA camp, and we have six weeks to get in there.
07:15I think it all depends on how many more snowstorms we get.
07:18Sure.
07:19No more.
07:20Hopefully this is it.
07:21But no, I think if we're just focusing on this front part, you're happy with everything
07:25inside the camp.
07:26Absolutely.
07:27Static.
07:28Great.
07:29Great.
07:30Then I think, you know, again, if spring cooperates and it's things do dry out, we could have,
07:35you know, be working on the front simultaneously.
07:38What do you have for a budget for your new front area?
07:42We'd like to keep it close to 50.
07:44Yeah.
07:45So $50,000 for the renovation and six weeks to get it done.
07:49Do we need a set of keys?
07:51Door's kind of missing, but.
07:53I do have keys.
07:55The door is missing.
07:56All right.
07:57Excellent.
07:58All right.
07:59Well, thank you very much.
08:00We'll see you.
08:02Everything about them is incredible.
08:04They do phenomenal work and we're so excited to have them back.
08:09There's no damage in the main part of the cabin.
08:12Okay, good.
08:13We've got power out here.
08:15So next step will be demo, get everybody over here and we'll pull this off.
08:21We'll pull this off and then we'll get down and, you know, get ready to start reframing up the floor.
08:27The Chadwick's want more indoor space.
08:29So we'll give them that by using the existing footprint of this old deck.
08:32We'll rip it off, take down that front wall and create a new addition with lots of windows looking out onto the water.
08:37We'll move the front door to the side of the camp and we'll get Francis in here to do some landscaping.
08:42Call the guys.
08:43Call them all.
08:44We're chasing the storm with Chasin' Storm.
08:49A little different than last time.
08:55Wow, that snow melted quickly.
08:57Thank goodness.
08:58It looks even worse.
08:59Tree damage.
09:01A lot of it.
09:02Snow hides a lot.
09:03Yeah, doesn't it?
09:04So today we're starting off at the YMCA camp.
09:07Kennebec got squashed, huh?
09:09Yeah, Kennebec got a good sized tree right in the valley of that dormer.
09:13There's some damage inside to the roof structure.
09:16Somerset took a tree hit right on that dormer.
09:22But the storm that came through, really this side of the lake took a beating.
09:26So we've got six weeks to get this ready for campers.
09:28We're also going to be doing some work on the Chadwick camp.
09:31Wow, guys.
09:32You're missing something.
09:34Yeah, the porch needs a full rebuild.
09:36So we've got to be efficient with our time and get both demos done in one day.
09:40Let's do it.
09:42Lead the way, Trigger.
09:44We took on a little bit more, but we'd love Y to give back to that.
09:48Keep the truck just on that road.
09:49We'll grab everything from there.
09:51And the Chadwick's always been good friends.
09:52Take it to pile and leave it.
09:54They're both closed, so.
09:56Whoa.
09:57Oh, what a mess.
10:01That's a wet, heavy snow, Scotty.
10:03All right.
10:04So we got the sketchiest part off.
10:06A wet blue top is like a slip and slide.
10:08Snowshoot.
10:09And so we'll peel this back.
10:12All right, we'll get the top here, buddy.
10:15And then we'll strip the shingles off.
10:17How's it going in there?
10:18Sunlight.
10:19Usually a skylight costs a lot of money.
10:24So we're just stripping back the ceiling in here to see what needs to be repaired.
10:31It looks like you definitely have some broken rafters.
10:34So I think we should be able to piece it back together.
10:39And we're going to just cover the whole thing over with metal and give it one pitch so that hopefully the snow slides right off.
10:45Go right around here.
10:47Well, you want to kind of stay away from things that have a lot of pressure.
10:52You kind of got to take a look at where the weight is.
10:55Come on.
10:56And what would be the safest option to be able to dismantle this without getting anybody hurt.
11:08Nice.
11:09Beautiful.
11:10Yeah, there was a lot of broken rafters.
11:19Lovely.
11:20Some of the supports were knocked out.
11:22Look, it looks like a butterfly.
11:23It was basically a roof line with a dormer sitting on top of it.
11:28Go ahead, do whatever you're going to do.
11:31So we just had to get everything down onto the ground.
11:34Yingle it.
11:35Yes.
11:36And then we could cut it all up safely and disposable.
11:46The main reason for getting rid of those dormers is because we're going to run new rafters.
11:51So we'll go from this peak and then they'll spin all the way to the front of the porch.
11:55Beautiful.
11:56And we're going to create a whole new roof line so it's just one flat straight roof.
12:00Grab one of your rooms and we'll clean this up.
12:03That was a prim joke.
12:04Never get old.
12:05It's going to make it a lot easier for snow removal.
12:08And it's going to be quite easy to put back together.
12:16Crush job.
12:17Yeah, I'd say we got the majority of the Kennebec roof cut back.
12:21We kind of know what we need to do there.
12:23Ah, love it.
12:25On Somerset, there's a little bit of dormer that needs to be ripped off.
12:28Anybody down there?
12:29No.
12:30Go ahead.
12:31But we've got to keep moving.
12:34We left Scotty, Alex, Hunter.
12:36That was perfectly executed, Gus.
12:38To just rip off the rest of the dormer.
12:40Get it weather tight.
12:41Here, you're going to need this.
12:43Ashley, how are you going to get home?
12:46Now we're off to Chadwick to rip off the front deck.
12:49How do I get so lucky to hang out with a bunch of guys all day?
12:52You wouldn't even know anything happened from the back side.
12:55Wow.
12:56Wow.
12:57Much different.
12:58Look how buckled.
12:59Buckled.
13:00Goal at Chadwick's pretty straightforward.
13:01Get the front stairs and porch off.
13:03Check out this board coming right off.
13:05Come on off board.
13:07And get that platform ripped down.
13:11What am I stuck on?
13:14It's screwed together.
13:15Don't tell TV.
13:18So we can come up with a game plan from there.
13:20You want this?
13:21Just for a second.
13:22I'm right here.
13:25Look at the boat, you guys.
13:26The first boat of the season.
13:28That's not the first boat of the season.
13:29It's the first one she's seen this season.
13:31Heidi.
13:32Hey.
13:33How's it going?
13:34Demo day.
13:35Sweet.
13:36Fun times.
13:37Taking down some porches.
13:38Fashion stuff.
13:39So Heidi stopped by today so we could talk a little design.
13:42So we've already been here before.
13:44Mm-hmm.
13:45So we need to come up with new projects for this place.
13:48Yeah, baby.
13:49Do it.
13:50So for the YMCA camp.
13:51I was going to reach out to Kim, dresswife in Florida,
13:53and see if there's anything they can do.
13:54I'm going to go to the YMCA camp.
13:55I'm going to go to the YMCA camp.
13:56I was going to reach out to Kim, dresswife in Florida,
13:58and see if there's anything they can do.
14:00And see if there's anything they need outside,
14:02since we're focusing mostly on the exterior.
14:04I thought you were a baseball player.
14:06Not with an eight-inch hammer.
14:09But for here.
14:11One hand.
14:12Perfect.
14:13Just like that.
14:14Can you reach out to Susie and see if there's something
14:16that they would like, since they are getting that new room in there?
14:19One way to do it.
14:22Maybe something for the new room.
14:24I like it.
14:25Yeah.
14:26I'm going to head back and help these guys, unfortunately.
14:28Okay.
14:29Can I go with you?
14:30Come on.
14:31Oh, you're smart.
14:32You're smart.
14:33That's a good boy.
14:34That's a smart boy.
14:35Good luck.
14:36Bye.
14:37Thanks.
14:38I'll see you soon.
14:39Bye.
14:40Done.
14:41Trigger!
14:42Oh, there we go.
14:44Get that thing off.
14:45Look at the mold.
14:46That is fresh.
14:47That is fresh mold.
14:48Camp cheese?
14:50Camp cheese?
14:51Want a bite?
14:52No!
14:53No!
14:54No!
14:55No!
14:56Camp cheese.
14:57Never heard of it.
14:58I've got to tell you, I don't think I want to.
15:00This place can use a couple days to dry out, huh?
15:03Clean off the cheese.
15:04Enough of the cheese already.
15:06The only cheese I want at camp is on my hamburger.
15:08Let's go, dogs.
15:09Watch your toes.
15:11Give me those, um, two-by-sixes.
15:23It's week two over at Chadwick and Y Camps, and we're ready to rebuild.
15:29Up at the Y Camps.
15:30What was it broken at?
15:31Right there.
15:32All right.
15:33Texas J is re-supporting the existing roof, replacing broken rafters, and reframing the
15:42porch on the Kennebec side, while Sarah and Scotty reframe the porch on the Somerset
15:47side.
15:48That's good.
15:52Over at the Chadwick Camp, the team has got the new platform built.
16:02They've got it all sheathed over.
16:05So, aren't that area?
16:08And they've demoed out the wall leading to the living space.
16:11Not a bad thing to be LA.
16:14Today, we're framing up the walls.
16:20Are we ready?
16:24Are we ready?
16:25So we can start setting the rafters.
16:29Yo, all you.
16:34So, we have hemlock beams to go into a vaulted ceiling with this addition.
16:49They are beautiful.
16:50It takes a lot of muscle and manpower to keep this team moving.
17:10And then we're going to sheathe our roof system in.
17:13So we are into our third week at the Y camp.
17:14Get our steps in today.
17:15Yeah.
17:16Yeah.
17:17Yeah.
17:18Yeah.
17:19Okay.
17:20All right.
17:21So we are into our third week at the Y camp.
17:28Get our steps in today.
17:30It's still cold.
17:32A little rain and snow.
17:34We love cold rain and snow.
17:35But all the damage has been torn out.
17:41Spring training, baby.
17:42How's that end look?
17:43Good?
17:44Sure.
17:45So things are looking good.
17:46JJ is working on patching in some weak spots on the floor.
17:53He's got the railing going mostly finished in.
17:59And this roof needs a new roof as well.
18:00A staircase here will need to be fully replaced.
18:06Over here, same thing.
18:08New roof line and roof down this entire thing.
18:12Beautiful.
18:13Today we're going to focus on getting porches that have been reframed, sheathed over.
18:34Is that something 62?
18:35I sure do.
18:38Is that something 62?
18:40I sure do.
18:4162.
18:42Yep.
18:43So today I had the opportunity to be a cut guy.
18:4562.
18:46Those guys were just yelling measurements down to me.
18:51And I was just handing boards up.
19:03Um, something's going on here.
19:07She's dipping down pretty well.
19:09Once Jason got the Kennebec porch sheathed over,
19:15you could kind of see a dip, which, you know,
19:17obviously without having any frame in there,
19:19you couldn't see before.
19:20Oy, oy, oy.
19:22And so I crawled under the camp to see what was going on.
19:25Ah, the carrion beam cracked.
19:27And one of the carrion beams on the front of the porch
19:32where the direct impact from the tree had hit,
19:35drove the beam down, and cracked it.
19:39So we had some two-by-sixes.
19:41It was two-by-six framing.
19:42So I slid four of them in.
19:44That's fine.
19:46And was able to re-support the porch in that area.
19:48OK.
19:53Hey!
19:57What are you doing?
19:58Fixing rot.
20:00I don't know.
20:01What are you doing?
20:02Come to check on you guys.
20:18It's raining.
20:19Hey, Ash.
20:21What?
20:22Well, you close up my truck and my tools are getting whacked.
20:27Yeah, you can work in the rain if you want,
20:29but it's not ideal.
20:30Last board.
20:33Well, it's not safe to be up on the roof in the rain.
20:36Beautiful.
20:37And it just ruins the tools.
20:39Yeah, we just got our last couple of sheathing boards on.
20:42Rain's picking up on us, so we're going to grab our tools.
20:46Money, honey.
20:52And we're going to get out of here.
20:54The rain is coming.
20:57All right.
20:59Don't rain on the...
21:01Hurry.
21:03Here it comes.
21:12Woo-hoo!
21:13It's week five on the Chadwick YMCA build,
21:15and things are moving along.
21:18Sarah, Scott, and Andy have been doing a heck of a job.
21:21It's coming along nicely.
21:25They've got the roof on the new addition all shingles.
21:32They got the windows in the other day.
21:34Yeah.
21:38Today they're putting the new door in.
21:40The Chadwick's requested we change the entrance from the front of the camp to the side of the camp.
21:47So we're changing the doorway, which is going to be better access for them.
21:50They're almost seater-shaked on the outside.
21:58And the Chadwick's also asked for black trim to match the black windows.
22:03Looks so good.
22:04On the inside, we're putting up some beautiful eastern white pine.
22:09Francis is going to come in.
22:10We're going to have this beautiful green sod patio all covered with the rotors and control
22:16on the outside.
22:17I think it's going to be good.
22:19Over at the Y camp, we're repairing the interior of the Kennebec cabin.
22:26The railings are getting a nice new paint job, and we're setting up for stairs in between
22:33the two buildings.
22:42So the new roof line is being framed, and we're using two two-by-sixes from the peak
22:51to the front of the porch.
22:53One straight line, so there is no longer the dip, so hopefully any snow, anything builds
22:57up, sheds in the wintertime.
23:01As soon as the roofing shows up,
23:09we can keep working right across with the roofing.
23:11You know, hopefully get it watertight as quickly as possible.
23:28OK.
23:29Rye!
23:30Trigger!
23:31Trigger will come.
23:32Hi, Triggs.
23:33What's up?
23:34He knew you were here.
23:35Yeah.
23:35Hi.
23:36So today, I'm at the wood shop.
23:39Jepto.
23:40Bird house?
23:41No, this is the lending library.
23:43Is this for the YMCA camp?
23:45Yeah.
23:46So Kim from the YMCA had requested a lending library.
23:49What is a lending library?
23:50Yeah, you know, the lending library really is just a little house where you put books in
23:54and take them out.
23:55How many do you need?
23:56Ultimately, they would like four.
23:57You and I are going to build one today so that then I can show it to my team and then we
24:01can finish it off from there.
24:02But I just need a little bit of help from you today.
24:04So are you yelling for Trigger?
24:05Yeah.
24:07OK, so they want them placed all around the camp.
24:10Not necessarily.
24:11Undercover.
24:12Yeah.
24:13So, do we have any roofing here?
24:15Yes.
24:16Yeah, so I have pre-cut all the pieces.
24:19Right, so that.
24:20I have everything I need.
24:21Want me to get the drill too?
24:22We could both be drilling.
24:23Where would you rather be than with me and your dog?
24:25No way.
24:26No way.
24:27So I definitely need to put some sort of roofing on the lending library.
24:31That would be perfect.
24:34And that's the solution to our problem.
24:39I like it.
24:40Yeah, so, you know, this is a little lending library.
24:42It was a nice prototype.
24:43Can you just twist it up under here like that?
24:45No, no, no.
24:47I'll go outside and cut it.
24:48It still needs some work on it.
24:50You know, you need to file down the edges because they're kind of sharp.
24:53Paint it.
24:56Then I have the material to make three more.
25:00Oh, yeah.
25:01Look at that nice overhang.
25:02That's good.
25:03Each one's probably going to be a little different, but that's the fun of it.
25:05Will you put it in the back of my car for me?
25:06Sure.
25:07Awesome.
25:09Come on, Chase.
25:10You see him?
25:11No, that's not him.
25:12Today we are back at the Chadwick's.
25:13It's a very busy day.
25:14We don't have a ton of space for parking.
25:15So Ryan and Ash are coming in by boat.
25:18Just go out.
25:19Let's go.
25:20Let's go.
25:21Let's go.
25:22Let's go.
25:23Let's go.
25:24Let's go.
25:25Let's go.
25:26Let's go.
25:27Let's go.
25:28Let's go.
25:29Let's go.
25:30Let's go.
25:31Let's go.
25:32You see him?
25:33No, that's not him.
25:34Today we are back at the Chadwick's.
25:36It's a very busy day.
25:38We don't have a ton of space for parking.
25:40So Ryan and Ash are coming in by boat.
25:44Just go right on that two-by.
25:47On the outside, Sarah is putting up the last of the cedar shakes,
25:50and Chase is going around and staining them to match the main camp.
25:55On the inside, Jedi and Andy are working on window trim.
26:02And once Ryan gets here, he'll help me and Scotty work on the lattice.
26:10All right, we got to get there.
26:11We got a lot to do.
26:12Yeah, I know.
26:13I've been waiting for you for an hour.
26:15Oh, my morning started with a hectic Ryan.
26:18I just said, hold on.
26:19No, you said it too late.
26:20He calls, yelling about all these things that we have to get done to the Chadwick's.
26:29We're going to take the boat.
26:30He's going to do the lattice.
26:32Got it.
26:35Francis is bringing sod.
26:36Things that I don't even understand.
26:39Yeah, there's a lot.
26:40And it's coming quick.
26:42And then I end up waiting forever for him to pick me up.
26:45What am I going to do with you?
26:47So I was a little late.
26:53Look at the bald eagle.
26:54Oh, he's got a fish.
26:55Cool.
26:56America!
26:57Yeah, buddy.
26:58Is that good luck seeing a bald eagle on the way to work?
27:01Yeah.
27:14Yo.
27:15Looks good.
27:16Here comes design.
27:18This is amazing.
27:19All covered in pine.
27:21All covered in pine.
27:24You did not have this view before at all.
27:27They couldn't even see the light.
27:28They're not going to believe this.
27:29It's week six on Cobsy at the Chadwick camp.
27:33And we are ready to do the finishing touches.
27:35So I heard through the grapevine.
27:38They wanted some shelves.
27:40What kind of shelves are they?
27:41Just some two live edge shelves.
27:43I'm going to sand them down.
27:44Polyarthane and put them up.
27:45I'll have some nice main brackets that Tom made.
27:48And all this is done.
27:49So we could probably put them up today, huh?
27:51Yep.
27:52Where are you going to put them?
27:53Maybe that wall.
27:54That wall needs something.
27:55Yeah.
27:56Cool.
27:57I'm going to head on out and see if my materials are here.
28:00But I'll be back, guys.
28:01Awesome.
28:02There goes design.
28:04Here goes design.
28:06So I'm setting up.
28:15I have a couple pieces of live edge.
28:18Just needs a quick sanding.
28:22Put some poly on it.
28:23And I'm going to make some shelves.
28:25And Andy and I are going to install them.
28:27Here we go.
28:29Yeah.
28:30And our friend Tom makes these really cool brackets
28:32with the state of main in it.
28:36Sweet.
28:37In the original kitchen, we put a live edge counter in.
28:39Put it up there.
28:41That's their kind of look, their aesthetic.
28:46My.
28:47Unbelievable.
28:48My word.
28:49Look at the counter.
28:50Wow.
28:51Oh, yeah.
28:52That one's really nice.
28:54So I just thought it would be something that would fit in really well in the cabin.
28:59There you go.
29:00There you go.
29:01Look at that.
29:02I like it.
29:03Okay.
29:04One of the other big things at the Chadwick camp is the new lattice.
29:18Perfect.
29:19Yeah.
29:20So before Susie, they'd sit out there.
29:21They'd be entertaining.
29:22They'd sit on the lawn.
29:23They just had to look at all the junk under the cabin.
29:24Each item when used individually is great.
29:26But when put together, it's junk.
29:27Okay.
29:28Do you have it ready, buddy?
29:29So we are changing the lattice a little bit.
29:31And all we're doing is, when there's a space on the front side of the lattice,
29:35we're going to put a piece of lattice on the back.
29:37So air can get through it.
29:38But if you're looking straight on, you won't really see what's behind there.
29:40Then they had trouble getting stuff underneath.
29:42Nice.
29:43So we designed a system that has a barn door rail coming up under the beam.
29:47That's going to work nice though, isn't it?
29:48Two of these are going to sit up there and they'll pull right out nice and easy and slide
29:52back in.
29:53What do you think, Francis?
29:54We're going to make your landscaping look sharp.
29:57And then that front air is just going to come together.
30:00You got an intern today, Francis?
30:02I got something.
30:04This really is a whole new camp.
30:06I'm a gardener today.
30:08What do you think, Jedi?
30:10Oh, I think it's a great spot to tan.
30:13We never had a company nap, guys.
30:15Little siesta.
30:17Oh, Moss is here.
30:19What are you doing?
30:20We're just checking out the gate.
30:21What's the plan?
30:22You guys keep going.
30:23I'm going to go check in on the Y and see how they're doing.
30:26All right.
30:27Let's do it.
30:28Nice!
30:29Get on it!
30:30Man, that's nice.
30:31You're right, Francis.
30:32Nice job.
30:33Ashley, nice job.
30:34This is going to be an incredible transformation for the Chadwick's.
30:51So things are looking good at the Y Camp.
30:55Most, pretty much all the roof is on.
30:58These guys are working on finishing the roof on the bathhouse
31:01and then touch up painting.
31:05While Ashley and her team are getting ready for the Chadwick's.
31:11We'll do a little bit of cleanup here at the Y Camp
31:13and then hand it back over to Jeff and his family in a couple of days.
31:21Oh, look, a joke book.
31:23Ready for some jokes?
31:24Ready.
31:26All right.
31:27Save the jokes for later.
31:29We've got a big day today.
31:30I know.
31:31Chasing away the storms for good.
31:33For good.
31:34It's the end of week six and we are done.
31:37Yeah, the lending libraries came out really cute.
31:39Don't you think?
31:40Yeah, for sure.
31:41We completed the lending libraries for the Y Camp.
31:43All the campers come tomorrow, right?
31:45Yeah.
31:46We're not doing staging on the inside.
31:47The campers bring their own bedding and all that,
31:49but we were able to bring in plants, chairs, picnic tables.
31:53And it's looking great.
31:56Wow.
31:57Wow.
31:58Wow.
31:59Wow.
32:00Wow.
32:05Here they are.
32:06Hey, guys.
32:07Hello.
32:08How are you?
32:09Good, how are you?
32:10Welcome back.
32:11Oh, well, welcome back to you.
32:14This is great.
32:15Walking up and seeing the clean roofs.
32:17It's in the flower pots and the picnic tables.
32:22Thanks for coming.
32:23Of course.
32:24Of course.
32:25Hi, guys.
32:26Hi, Ashley.
32:27How are you?
32:28Good.
32:29Just makes it feel more welcoming and it looks pretty sharp.
32:32So welcome back.
32:33How was Florida?
32:34Great.
32:35Yeah.
32:36It was great.
32:37It's always nice to head south when winters are what they are in Maine.
32:42Yeah.
32:43So, you know, that storm that came through hit a lot of camps on this side of Cobsea.
32:47We're actually finishing up another camp.
32:49Oh, wow.
32:50A few roads down and, you know, getting that ready for the summer season.
32:54Nice.
32:55So, happy and lucky we were able to come in and help do a few improvements.
33:02That will extend the longevity and make a little less work for you in the winter times.
33:07Yeah.
33:08Yeah.
33:10These metal roofs are awesome.
33:11Yeah.
33:12Yeah.
33:13You know, we had the guys come in.
33:14It's like, these buildings weren't perfect before the trees hit them.
33:16But they did a really good job just straightening out the roof line.
33:19The Kennebec definitely sustained the majority of the damage.
33:22It damaged the inside of the structure and the porch.
33:26So, we got everything put back together, closed it all in.
33:30On Somerset, it was the porch that took the hit.
33:33All new framing and new paint jobs.
33:39So, ready to go.
33:41And we wanted some lending libraries.
33:43So, we had some fun making those and putting those up around the property.
33:46Oh, nice.
33:47Cool.
33:48One of the traditions with the cabins is the counselors reading to the kids at night.
33:53Oh, nice.
33:54So, being able to have books at the ready, that will definitely be put to good use.
33:58Want to head on in and check it out?
34:00Yeah.
34:01Cool.
34:02Oh, wow.
34:04Holy mackerel.
34:05There used to be a big hole right there.
34:07The tree is gone.
34:08The tree is gone.
34:09No more skylights.
34:11No.
34:12That's awesome.
34:13No.
34:14Ready for the campers.
34:15Ready?
34:16Yeah.
34:17Knowing that we have people coming from Maine and other states and other countries to connect.
34:24Nice, solid deck.
34:25Yeah.
34:26Nice and solid.
34:27The lights are back up.
34:28Yep.
34:29And the trim is so nice.
34:31Oh.
34:32Having these repairs done.
34:34The railings are fixed.
34:36Nice new stairs.
34:38Oh, here's another library.
34:40It means that we can focus our attention on that.
34:43And the adventures that this summer is going to hold.
34:50Yeah.
34:51So, you know, when we first showed up, you know, met Don.
34:53Didn't have a key to hand off.
34:54Oh, my God.
34:55So we don't have a key to get back to you.
34:56But we had six weeks and $80,000 to get it back, get it ready for campers.
35:01We just squeaked under the wire, so the rest is on you guys now.
35:05Okay.
35:06We'll take it from here.
35:07And now we have to run because we're still chasing the storm.
35:10Okay.
35:11Right down the lake here.
35:12So.
35:13Perfect.
35:14Yeah.
35:15We will hopefully not see you under these conditions soon, but hopefully see you soon.
35:18Hopefully.
35:19We have the great privilege of speaking for over a hundred years of alumni and hopefully
35:25a hundred more years to come of campers.
35:28Oh, this is the...
35:29Oh, hey.
35:30Look, there's one down there, too.
35:31And this one that looks pretty.
35:32Yeah.
35:33Sweet.
35:34Thank you to the Cabin Masters for taking such great care of this very special place.
35:39Thank you, Cabin Masters!
35:49All right.
35:50Yeah, so the build of the Chadwick camp is done.
35:54Looks great, doesn't it?
35:55It does.
35:56My team and I were able to get in there and redecorate it.
36:00The shelves that we made are perfect for the space.
36:03Francis is done with the landscaping.
36:05The whole place was ready for the Chadwick's to come back and enjoy for the summer.
36:08No more storms.
36:09I'm beat.
36:12Still a lot of tall trees.
36:14Chase, knock on all the wood.
36:19Oh, there they are.
36:22Hi!
36:23Hey, guys!
36:24How are you?
36:25Hello!
36:26This looks awesome!
36:27Wow.
36:31You know, that storm was awful.
36:33And honestly, when I came out here and saw that 90-foot tree on our camp, I said,
36:39there is probably no way we're going to get it done for this summer.
36:44How are you?
36:45We're good.
36:46Good to see you, young lady.
36:47Good to see you.
36:48I'm very excited.
36:50And as always, the Cabin Masters makes a silk purse out of a pig's ear every time.
36:55This is awesome.
36:57Wow.
36:58Yeah, nice safe steps down towards the water.
37:00You don't have to go down over the hill like a billy goat.
37:03You don't have to worry about breaking an ankle.
37:05Exactly.
37:06Exactly.
37:07New side entrance over here.
37:08I think that's going to work so much better.
37:10Yes.
37:11Just what the Cabin Masters did with the Hardsgate, the steps.
37:16Incredible.
37:18Wow.
37:19Oh.
37:20Oh.
37:21Wow.
37:22This is beautiful.
37:23This is beautiful.
37:25This is incredible.
37:27Absolutely.
37:28What a transformation.
37:29Look at those windows.
37:30Wow.
37:31I know.
37:32We can see the lake.
37:33Unbelievable.
37:34Unbelievable.
37:35Unbelievable.
37:36So bright and bigger and just to be able to see the water.
37:44Oh.
37:45Wow.
37:46Beautiful.
37:47I did go down to get some nice slabs to make you some beautiful live edge shelves over
37:52there.
37:53It looks amazing.
37:58I cannot believe how they transformed the space.
38:01It's beautiful.
38:02It's so nice.
38:05We have grass.
38:06Oh, wow.
38:14We have some storage.
38:15You got storage underneath.
38:16Yeah, watch this.
38:17This is perfect.
38:18That is going to make it easy.
38:19Yes.
38:20We continued with the black.
38:21The black.
38:22Yeah.
38:23A little bit of privacy in between them.
38:24That's awesome.
38:25Brian nailed that.
38:26He did a great job.
38:27Gave us some storage to get to easily and not have to worry about it over the winter.
38:32This is beautiful.
38:33It seems like there's so much more space.
38:36Great.
38:37That was the point, right?
38:38I mean, originally, the stairs came down, so that kind of took up space.
38:41Yeah.
38:42That took up space.
38:43Yeah.
38:44The gift that cabin masters have is just making it like it belongs there.
38:53Like it's been there since the early 1900s when this camp was built.
38:58They truly have a gift when it comes to that.
39:01Yeah, so called Ryan right after the storm.
39:04You were looking to rebuild the porch but incorporate it more into the house.
39:08We had six weeks and $50,000.
39:10Francis came in, did the landscaping.
39:12Everybody worked together.
39:14Camp is ready for summer.
39:16Here are your keys.
39:17Awesome.
39:18Perfect.
39:19Yeah.
39:20It's ready to go.
39:21Can't thank you guys enough.
39:22We are so fortunate to know them and call them our friends.
39:26If that means I get to stay in this breeze, I will be here all night.
39:30We've got room now.
