00:00:30Lily, when we last spoke, you said you weren't quite sure you could describe what you saw at the theater that night.
00:00:35Still can't. But now I don't have to because...
00:00:38Because we got the picture sheet, Bowers.
00:00:40We have one where this thing looks like the monster version of Teddy, which was incredibly scary.
00:00:44Rich.
00:00:45Who is he?
00:00:46Ricardo Santos, sir. But you can call me Rich.
00:00:50Whatever killed Teddy, Phil, and Susie, it came after us again last night in the cemetery.
00:00:55What the hell were you doing at the cemetery at night?
00:00:57So my cousin and Bimbit told me this thing my uncle used to do.
00:01:00We were just cutting through.
00:01:01Yeah. Taking a shortcut home.
00:01:03And you all just happened to have a camera with you when it did.
00:01:05We were ready this time.
00:01:09Well, let's have a look-see.
00:01:15Oh my God.
00:01:17Kurt and Wallace, look at this.
00:01:22Jesus H. Christ.
00:01:24What the hell is that?
00:01:25Oh, is that a...
00:01:27Is this pigeon shit?
00:01:32It's not possible.
00:01:34What's this?
00:01:35Oh, dead flowers.
00:01:37Helpful.
00:01:38And Mary's headstone.
00:01:40A tree.
00:01:43Stop, wait.
00:01:44Look at that one.
00:01:45Yeah, that's it.
00:01:46Right there.
00:01:46The statue.
00:01:54No, are you blind?
00:01:56It's a clown.
00:01:56You watch your tone, young lady.
00:01:59You walk into this office telling tall tales, and you show me this is proof.
00:02:02The only thing this is proof of is that you, Lily Bainbridge, are trying to buy yourself a one-way ticket back to the nuthouse.
00:02:06You kids keep your noses out of police business, or ghouls and goblins will be the very least of your worries.
00:02:17Do I make myself perfectly clear?
00:02:19A smile is something special, a ribbon is something rare, so I'll be special and I'll be rare, with a smile and a ribbon in my hair.
00:02:41To be a girl, they notice, takes more than a fancy dress.
00:02:48So I'll be noticed, because I'll dress with a smile and a ribbon in my dresses.
00:02:57The bigger my toothy grin is, the smaller my troubles grow.
00:03:03The louder I say I'm happy, the more I believe it's so.
00:03:08So I'll have that extra something, cause I'll know what to wear.
00:03:14So I'll be special and I'll be rare, I'll be something beyond compare.
00:03:20I'll be noticed, because I'll wear a smile and a ribbon in my hair.
00:03:27The bigger my toothy grin is, the bigger my toothy grin is, the smaller my troubles grow.
00:03:33The louder I say I'm happy, the more I believe it's so.
00:03:39So I'll have that extra something, cause I'll know what to wear.
00:03:45So I'll be special and I'll be rare, I'll be something beyond compare.
00:03:51I'll be noticed, because I'll wear a smile and a ribbon in my hair.
00:04:00Maybe it's a Dracula thing.
00:04:10You know, like in the movie, how we can't see his reflection?
00:04:14But we did see him.
00:04:15It could have killed us, but it didn't.
00:04:18It's like it's messing with us.
00:04:20The first thing I do is find out if there's a history of stuff like this happening in Dini.
00:04:24Lily, your mom grew up here, right?
00:04:28Yeah?
00:04:29She ever mentioned anything strange?
00:04:31No, and if I ask her about it, she'll send me right back to Juniper Hill.
00:04:34But you heard what ba-
00:04:35Shh!
00:04:36You heard what Powers said.
00:04:39They're gonna transfer my dad to Shawshank.
00:04:41You don't come back from that place.
00:04:42Please, I'm just asking-
00:04:43No one's ever gonna believe what we saw.
00:04:46I wouldn't.
00:04:50Wait.
00:04:52I know someone who might.
00:04:55I haven't thought about it in years, but...
00:04:57Now that you mention it, I do remember some kids going missing in the 30s.
00:05:01Quite a few, actually.
00:05:04Really?
00:05:05Well, it was the Depression, and a lot of families were starving, and some kids, they just disappeared overnight.
00:05:10They probably ran away looking for something better, or trying to relieve their families of the burden.
00:05:14They were tough times.
00:05:17But nothing like-
00:05:19What you're describing?
00:05:20Oh, no, dear.
00:05:21No, nothing like that.
00:05:23But don't let that stop you from trying to figure out what's happening.
00:05:30My father always said to me that with good friends at your side, anything's possible.
00:05:36And it sounds like you have those.
00:05:38Hello.
00:06:05Oh, this is a surprise.
00:06:06Thought I'd save you the trouble of wrestling at home yourself.
00:06:10Oh, you didn't have to do that.
00:06:12I'm just happy it found a good home.
00:06:15I'm brewing coffee, if you're in the mood.
00:06:17I will never say no to a cup of coffee.
00:06:19All right.
00:06:21Come on in.
00:06:25So your folks are from around these parts originally?
00:06:29My ancestors settled in the valley here,
00:06:32but our homelands were much bigger back then.
00:06:34We would follow the elk herds all the way into Nova Scotia and back.
00:06:40That was before Manifest Destiny, of course.
00:06:43I've never been to Canada myself.
00:06:44No?
00:06:45Mm-mm.
00:06:47I still have cousins up there, north of the border.
00:06:50Well, what they call a border anyway.
00:06:53To us, it's just a line on a map.
00:06:57Hmm.
00:07:00So how is your husband adjusting?
00:07:02I suppose they're keeping him busy working on that new pipeline.
00:07:05Oh, Leroy's a pilot.
00:07:07I doubt he's got anything to do with that.
00:07:09Not that he'd tell me if he did, but...
00:07:12No?
00:07:13Every time I ask about his day,
00:07:15it's national security this and classify that.
00:07:18Man's got more secrets than King Tut's, too.
00:07:21That sounds a little lonely.
00:07:25Oh, I knew what I was signing up for when I married a five-boy.
00:07:29He doesn't question orders.
00:07:30I question everything.
00:07:32That's the dance.
00:07:33Mm-hmm.
00:07:34Mm-hmm.
00:07:38May I ask you something?
00:07:40Of course.
00:07:41This business with the theater,
00:07:46the missing kids...
00:07:49It's a terrible thing.
00:07:52Do I need to be concerned?
00:07:58Derry is a beautiful place,
00:08:02but things do happen from time to time.
00:08:04Never a bad idea to keep the people you love close.
00:08:12Tell you what.
00:08:13If you need anything to talk,
00:08:18a friend,
00:08:21call me.
00:08:24Yeah, mama, don't you treat me wrong?
00:08:27Come and love you, daddy, all night long, all right now.
00:08:30Hey, hey, all right now.
00:08:41See the girl with the diamond ring?
00:08:43She knows how to shake that thing, all right now, now.
00:08:48Hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:08:56Here we go.
00:08:57You tell your mama...
00:08:58This is it.
00:08:59Now the rap.
00:09:00Let's go.
00:09:00I've seen this shit.
00:09:01Oh, hell no.
00:09:02I saw that.
00:09:03Come on.
00:09:04Yo, hold on.
00:09:04Let me find the light up in here.
00:09:06Oh, I got it.
00:09:06Hold up.
00:09:07Hit the light.
00:09:08Hey.
00:09:08Hey.
00:09:08There you go.
00:09:09You did it.
00:09:10You did it.
00:09:12Hey.
00:09:13Ain't it a little far from base?
00:09:15That's good.
00:09:17I mean, there's no one to hassle us.
00:09:19You sure it's ours?
00:09:20Colonel said we could use it.
00:09:22Right, right.
00:09:23And no one else comes here.
00:09:25Boy, do you know what decommissioned means?
00:09:28No, it was all storage out here.
00:09:29Anything they needed, they cleared out a long time ago.
00:09:32Come on, now.
00:09:33Look at this.
00:09:34What?
00:09:35It's a damn mess.
00:09:36Yeah.
00:09:37But the important thing is, you've got potential.
00:09:41Oh, hell no.
00:09:42Now, look.
00:09:43You put the bar here, put the hi-fi there.
00:09:46Hey.
00:09:48Hey, hey, hollerin.
00:09:49Maybe you could get, like, a grill or a hot plate or something.
00:09:52You know, we could turn this into a kitchen.
00:09:53Throw a little chow down for the fellas.
00:09:55And that day, you can't do that on base.
00:09:59Can't do nothing here neither till we clean this motherfucker.
00:10:03Come on.
00:10:04Y'all laughing like we don't got to clean that shit.
00:10:06Dang.
00:10:07Let's clean this up, gentlemen.
00:10:08Yes, sir.
00:10:11Y'all helping with this?
00:10:12It's heavy as hell.
00:10:12I know, but maybe we can use a couple of these things around here.
00:10:15What's up, Denver?
00:10:16It's full here.
00:10:18It's full here.
00:10:19Oh, oh.
00:10:20There's a bright flash, brighter than the sun.
00:10:27It could knock you down hard or throw you against a tree or a wall.
00:10:32It is such a big explosion.
00:10:33It can smash in buildings and knock signboards over and break windows all over town.
00:10:39But if you duck and cover like Bert, you will be much safer.
00:10:44The atomic bomb flash could burn you worse than a terrible sunburn, especially where you're not covered.
00:10:50Now, you and I don't have shells to crawl into like Bert the turtle, so we have to cover up in our own way.
00:10:56First, you duck, and then you cover.
00:11:01And very tightly, you cover the back of your neck, your face.
00:11:05Duck and cover underneath the table.
00:11:07Duck and cover underneath the table.
00:11:37Duck and cover underneath the table.
00:11:39Hmm, looking for these?
00:11:44I was tidying up, and I found these stuffed in an envelope in the back of that drawer.
00:11:50What's going on, Will?
00:11:52And don't lie to me.
00:11:57Ronnie is my friend.
00:11:59She swears her dad didn't do it, and I believe her, but the police don't because he works at the theater.
00:12:04Yeah, I know, baby.
00:12:07So, we and some other kids, we met up to try to figure out how to help her when...
00:12:17When what?
00:12:22What happened?
00:12:26It was dark.
00:12:26Someone came after us.
00:12:32We were scared.
00:12:33We ran, but Ronnie had a camera, and she was trying to get some pictures, and...
00:12:38Okay.
00:12:42Alright, no more running around till I find out what's going on around here.
00:12:51What?
00:12:51School and back, and that's it.
00:12:52Mom!
00:12:53Not another word.
00:12:54Your daddy finds out you've been running around wild at night, you're going to get a worse punishment than that.
00:13:01We'll keep it between us...
00:13:02This time.
00:13:21How was your first week at school?
00:13:24Fine.
00:13:25Fine.
00:13:26Give me some details.
00:13:27Go on, baby, tell him.
00:13:37Oh, for goodness sake.
00:13:39There is a girl.
00:13:42Mom.
00:13:43Oh, it's okay.
00:13:45Don't embarrass the boy, Sean.
00:13:47Can I be excused?
00:13:49You haven't even had dessert.
00:13:51I have homework.
00:13:52All right.
00:13:55Go on.
00:14:03So the girl is...
00:14:05I mean, she...
00:14:09You know?
00:14:13Are you working this weekend?
00:14:18Oh, um...
00:14:19I don't know.
00:14:21I was waiting on a call.
00:14:22Hmm.
00:14:24Well, I was thinking, if you're free, y'all two could do something.
00:14:29Been so busy since we got here.
00:14:31Could be good to get him out of his head for a change.
00:14:36Yeah.
00:14:38Maybe.
00:14:39Yeah?
00:14:41What are you thinking?
00:15:06Nice.
00:15:09Dad?
00:15:09Hmm?
00:15:11How long do we have to do this?
00:15:15Have to?
00:15:17I'm having the time of my life.
00:15:19Spending time in nature with my boy, like I used to with my pops.
00:15:24It doesn't get better than this.
00:15:28Tell me about this new girlfriend of yours.
00:15:32She's not my girlfriend.
00:15:33Not yet.
00:15:39Years young.
00:15:42Years young, my friend.
00:15:48I got something.
00:15:49What?
00:15:50I got something.
00:15:51Oh, oh, oh.
00:15:52Okay, son, relax, relax.
00:15:53Don't force it.
00:15:54Just reel it in a little bit at a time.
00:15:56Easy.
00:15:57Keep going.
00:15:57I'm doing it, Dad.
00:15:58You got it.
00:15:59Stay with it.
00:15:59You got to stay with him.
00:16:00There it is.
00:16:02Ah, damn it.
00:16:04I got it.
00:16:05You had it.
00:16:06Listen, he's gone.
00:16:08We're in the back.
00:16:09At least we know they're biting.
00:16:11Ah, oh, hold on, hold on.
00:16:12The fly came off.
00:16:15Yeah, so.
00:16:17Watch my line.
00:16:18I left the spares in the car.
00:16:19Oh, God.
00:16:19Oh, God.
00:16:26I left the car.
00:16:27No one to die.
00:16:28Please.
00:16:28Oh.
00:16:30God.
00:16:31Oh, God.
00:16:35Oh.
00:16:42Oh.
00:16:43Oh.
00:16:43Let's go.
00:17:13Let's go.
00:17:43Let's go.
00:17:45It pulled me out.
00:17:46It came out of the water.
00:17:47What, son?
00:17:47Breathe.
00:17:48What the?
00:17:50With you.
00:17:52You were all burnt like that.
00:17:53But you got through the water when you went down in that way.
00:17:55Son, you got to relax.
00:17:56You're not making any sense.
00:17:57It's the tube.
00:17:58Hold down.
00:18:03Son, what the hell?
00:18:04There's something here in the area.
00:18:09Something bad.
00:18:10All right.
00:18:28Reports suggest the Soviet shipments that recently arrived in Cuban ports may contain military equipment, including surface-to-air missiles.
00:18:35If confirmed, sources say would mark a significant...
00:18:38Chief, we've got a visitor.
00:18:50No details, no description.
00:18:53There's not a lot to go on.
00:18:54They're kids. They got scared and ran.
00:18:57We'll look into it. Is there anything else, Mrs...
00:19:00Panlin, I don't mean to be presumptuous, Chief Bowers,
00:19:03but if there is someone out there still accosting children,
00:19:07isn't it a possibility you have an innocent man in your jail?
00:19:11You're talking about Hank Rogan? Not a chance.
00:19:13Not a chance. We questioned him, we caught him in a lie.
00:19:16The man has no alibi.
00:19:18Has he been able to consult an attorney?
00:19:23Mrs. Hanlon, this is at the South.
00:19:25He and his family have had regular contact
00:19:27with the public defender's office.
00:19:29I didn't mean to offend you, sir. I'm sorry.
00:19:31I can imagine where I come from.
00:19:35What I'm used to.
00:19:40May I speak with him, please?
00:19:42You're neither counsel nor family, so no.
00:19:45Now, if you'll excuse me.
00:19:52Thank you for your time.
00:19:53Mm-hmm.
00:19:54Grogan, Grogan.
00:20:23I don't understand, Miss...
00:20:34Mrs. Hanlon.
00:20:36Call me Charlotte.
00:20:38My boy Will is a friend of your granddaughter's.
00:20:41He told me the situation with your son,
00:20:43and I just thought I'd check in.
00:20:46You the lawyer?
00:20:46No, ma'am, but I was active in the movement down south.
00:20:50Did my bit helping other colored folks
00:20:53who got forced into false confessions.
00:20:55If that's the case with your son,
00:20:57I'd like to see if I could help him, too.
00:20:59That's kind of you,
00:21:00but I don't see as it'll do much good.
00:21:03I thought he was in his room.
00:21:06Turns out someone saw him out walking, so...
00:21:09Hmm.
00:21:09Doesn't mean he hurt anybody.
00:21:12Of course not.
00:21:13My Hank wouldn't hurt a fly.
00:21:16Especially not no kids.
00:21:18So if he wasn't at the theater,
00:21:19and he wasn't home,
00:21:21where else could he have been?
00:21:23The only one who knows where my son was that night
00:21:26other than himself
00:21:27is God.
00:21:31And neither one of them's talking.
00:21:33Hey!
00:21:41Hey!
00:21:42Damn!
00:21:43You gonna clean it off?
00:21:50Coming together.
00:21:51Coming together.
00:21:52Red, get the fuck out.
00:21:53Come on, there you go, Red!
00:21:54Red!
00:21:57Sure.
00:21:57Looking at the mother
00:21:58You can't judge the book by
00:22:01Looking at the cover
00:22:03Oh, can't you see
00:22:05Back against the wall.
00:22:06Back against the wall.
00:22:07Sit back.
00:22:09Jack, you're looking back against the wall, Jack.
00:22:11Back against the wall.
00:22:13Back on the wall, man.
00:22:15Howl around.
00:22:16I can't play.
00:22:18Hey!
00:22:18Howl around!
00:22:19Let's go!
00:22:20Hey!
00:22:21Hey!
00:22:23Okay!
00:22:24Hey!
00:22:24Hey!
00:22:24Hey!
00:22:27Hey!
00:22:52Dick.
00:22:55Baby.
00:22:57Mind me now, you want yourself here, keep that lid on tight.
00:23:27You said I'd find you here.
00:23:30Well, here I am.
00:23:33Hey, thanks again for that home-cooked meal.
00:23:37The best sleep I've had since I stumbled out of a cat house.
00:23:42So, you heard anything from General Shaw, Colonel Fuller?
00:23:46Just wondering when we're going up again.
00:23:48Oh, no, that's above my pay grade.
00:23:50I hear you.
00:23:51But, uh, you know, Operation Precept showed me to sound like a real priority.
00:23:58One brother to another.
00:24:00Maybe don't be so eager to put yourself in the line of fire on this one.
00:24:05What are you trying to say?
00:24:07The Colonel is kind enough to lend us this old requisition shed to use at and for our leisure.
00:24:13We're just setting up inside. You want to help us out?
00:24:21Listen, I went fishing today with my son.
00:24:28And when I went back to the car to get more bait, something attacked him.
00:24:34Jesus, I'm sorry. You all right?
00:24:37When I asked him what, he said...
00:24:40He said it was me.
00:24:42All burnt up and charred like I crawled out of a plane crash.
00:24:45And I came up out the water, tried to pull him under.
00:24:48You believe him?
00:24:50The boy's got bruises and cuts like an animal scratched him all up.
00:24:55And he looked at me, he said...
00:24:59He said, Dad, there's something bad here in Derry.
00:25:03Halloran, what the hell are we actually looking for?
00:25:13Huh?
00:25:14And I know we're trying to develop some shit. Russia too.
00:25:16Or did something go missing?
00:25:18A machine that fucks with your head.
00:25:20What is it?
00:25:22Answer me! I don't know!
00:25:25I don't know what the hell it is.
00:25:27Hell, I'm not sure I want to know.
00:25:31Look, I do. I do what I'm told what I'm told, just like you.
00:25:36I'm sorry about your son.
00:25:48I used to have nightmares as a kid about my dad going down on a plane like he did in Korea.
00:25:53It scared me more than anything else in the world.
00:25:56How did I know that?
00:25:58It could have killed me way before my dad got to me.
00:26:01It can probably kill any one of us any time it wants to.
00:26:08Unless...
00:26:09Unless what?
00:26:12What if it doesn't want to kill us?
00:26:16Not yet, anyway. What if it's just trying to scare us?
00:26:19Like Louie said.
00:26:20Why would it just want to scare us when it killed all the others?
00:26:23We don't actually know Maddie's dead. Not for sure.
00:26:29But he did tell me he'd been seeing weird stuff for a while before he disappeared.
00:26:34Phil and Teddy said the same thing.
00:26:37Oh, man.
00:26:40I hate being right.
00:26:41What?
00:26:43Adrenaline.
00:26:45Cortisol.
00:26:48They're called the fear hormones.
00:26:50When you get scared, not just you, any mammal.
00:26:52Your adrenal glands secretes them into your bloodstream, which some predators like the taste of.
00:26:58So they'll stalk and scare their prey until they smell just right.
00:27:03Then...
00:27:04No, no, no. You're saying it wants to eat us?
00:27:06It's just a theory.
00:27:07It's a horrible theory!
00:27:08Well, if it's the facts.
00:27:09Okay, let's just for the moment assume that you're right.
00:27:12No, I do not want to assume that.
00:27:14But if he is, what are we supposed to do?
00:27:18I mean, it's not like we can just stop ourselves from being scared.
00:27:22Guys, what if we could?
00:27:23How'd you get them?
00:27:24I swiped them for my mom's compact.
00:27:25I got one for each of us.
00:27:26What did you do?
00:27:27Whenever she's really nervous about stuff like bills or, you know, me, she just sticks one under her tongue. She says it makes all her fears and troubles melt away like magic. She calls it mommy's little helper.
00:27:40That sounds pretty good.
00:27:42So I guess the second something weird starts to happen, we take it and hope for the best.
00:27:47Yeah.
00:27:48There are almost 20,000 species of worms on Earth, each one unique, each with its own purpose in the grave.
00:27:53Swirling apparatus of our planet's function.
00:28:06There are almost 20,000 species of worms on Earth, each one unique, each with its own
00:28:16purpose in the great swirling apparatus of our planet's function.
00:28:23Here we see the parasitic flatworm Leucochloridium paradoxum, which burrows into the bodies of
00:28:30land snails, causing their eyes to swell and expand into multicolored stalks, which subsequently
00:28:38attract the attention of birds who then swoop down and pluck them out.
00:28:44Now the most fascinating aspect of Leucochloridium paradoxum is how the parasite not only alters
00:28:51the snail physically, but also hijacks its brain and alters its behavior.
00:28:56I've been thinking about what a shit I've been lately.
00:29:01I was wondering if, I don't know, do you want to go to lunch with me today?
00:29:08Just me and you?
00:29:11I miss you.
00:29:16That'd be swell.
00:29:18Peachy.
00:29:19Can't wait.
00:29:21I'm thinking of nature.
00:29:22Now, as we consider the durability of parasitic infections in the animal kingdom, we should
00:29:28never lose sight of how easily they can leap between species.
00:29:33I don't know.
00:30:03Are you family?
00:30:13No, but I have a letter here signed by his mother, granted permission to visit with her son.
00:30:24Yeah. You'll have to wait for the chief.
00:30:27And when will he be in?
00:30:29Hard to say.
00:30:31That's just not good enough.
00:30:33Listen, lady.
00:30:35I suggest that you take it on the arches before you find yourself in a cell right next to him.
00:30:42My name's not Lady. It's Charlotte Hanlon.
00:30:45And that may not mean much to you right now, but it will when you see all the scary shit I can do with the telephone.
00:30:51Excuse me?
00:30:52No, I don't think I will.
00:30:54In fact, if you don't let me see Hank Grogan right now, by tomorrow morning I'll have MLK, JFK, RFK, and a whole bunch of other FKs breathing down your neck.
00:31:03Along with a bus full of Freedom Riders after another from here to the turnpike, singing, we shall overcome in the streets.
00:31:10Do you have to call the world's largest cow catcher to clear him?
00:31:12Are you going to let me see the man?
00:31:16Or do I need to make a call?
00:31:25Forgive me, Mrs. Hanlon, but you don't know my situation.
00:31:27I know the cops locked you up without a shred of hard evidence.
00:31:31I spoke with the public defender's office, asked some questions.
00:31:35Turns out they charged you without a bail hearing, which is your legal right.
00:31:39Public defender ain't saying nothing about that.
00:31:41We'll worry about him later.
00:31:43Right now we need to file papers citing prejudicial treatment, show discrimination, which would be easy to do in your case.
00:31:50It'll allow you to skip bail altogether.
00:31:53You can go on house arrest while you wait for trial.
00:31:56House arrest?
00:31:56Mm-hmm.
00:31:58So what you saying?
00:31:59I don't got to go to Shawshank?
00:32:00The papers take a minute to process, and it sounds like they're busting you out tomorrow, so you may have to spend a few days there, but the fact of the matter is your right to due process was violated.
00:32:12Whatever you did or didn't do, you're going to be going home.
00:32:20At least for now.
00:32:23That's a promise.
00:32:29But at some point, Mr. Grogan, you'll have to go on record with the truths.
00:32:36The truth.
00:32:39The truth is I didn't do nothing to those kids.
00:32:41Told the police about it, too!
00:32:43It doesn't change the fact that you weren't where you claimed to be that night.
00:32:49Where were you, really?
00:32:50You realize that answer could set you free.
00:33:03Whatever you were doing can't possibly compare to what you're being accused of.
00:33:07Do you want your daughter to go without a father?
00:33:16Do you want your mama to mourn a son?
00:33:18Do you think I want that?
00:33:20Do you think I want that?
00:33:22Man, y'all don't understand.
00:33:26All right.
00:33:28So tell me.
00:33:31Please.
00:33:33I think you know by now I'm on your side.
00:33:35I, um, I was with a woman.
00:33:50A married woman?
00:33:54Not just married.
00:33:59A white woman.
00:34:00Yeah, it just happened.
00:34:06It just happened.
00:34:12Look, if anybody finds out,
00:34:15I'm going to be headed to no Shawshank.
00:34:18They'll just find the nearest tree.
00:34:20Not to mention what I was going to do to her.
00:34:22Mm-hmm.
00:34:25Now, if there's a way out without anyone getting hurt,
00:34:28I'll take it.
00:34:30But I might, I might need some help finding it.
00:34:45Sir, we checked the areas the Indian woman told us to stay away from.
00:34:49Either she's telling the truth
00:34:50or sending us on a wild goose chase,
00:34:52but there is nothing there.
00:34:54Of course there's nothing there.
00:34:57She's a smart woman.
00:34:58And now we've confirmed her suspicions.
00:35:02Believe me, Colonel,
00:35:03these people take their obligations very seriously.
00:35:05And whatever comes next,
00:35:06it's not going to be a cease and desist letter.
00:35:09Not that it matters.
00:35:11Because the cycle will be over soon,
00:35:13and the weapon gone to ground.
00:35:14Maybe it's time to begin cleanup, sir.
00:35:16How often are those kids out there watching the base?
00:35:40The kids from Indian Marsh?
00:35:41I don't know, every couple of days.
00:35:44Sir, they may be curious,
00:35:46but they know to stay on their own side of the fence.
00:35:48Maybe it's time we open the gate.
00:35:51Invite them in.
00:35:52So, how are things with your...
00:35:59and your friends?
00:36:02What do you mean?
00:36:03I don't know.
00:36:05I guess I'm just curious.
00:36:07What's Ronnie Grogan like?
00:36:10People talk.
00:36:12If you invited me to gossip, I'm not...
00:36:14Lily?
00:36:14No.
00:36:15I just...
00:36:17I guess I just don't know how to talk to you anymore.
00:36:21Everything's changed so much since you got back from...
00:36:25You know...
00:36:28Look, we've been best friends since first grade.
00:36:33Forget the patty cakes.
00:36:35I don't want to lose you.
00:36:37Can we just start over?
00:36:39Please?
00:36:41I'd like that.
00:36:43Hey, Marge.
00:36:45Hey, Lily.
00:36:51Hey, Tim!
00:36:53Oh, my gosh.
00:36:55Did you see the way Tim Flanagan just looked at you?
00:36:58You should talk to him.
00:37:00What?
00:37:01No way.
00:37:02He's totally sweet on you.
00:37:05Come on, at least say hi.
00:37:08After everything you've been through this year,
00:37:10you deserve it.
00:37:12Well, I should at least freshen up first.
00:37:16Okay.
00:37:23I'll be right back.
00:37:24Did she go for it?
00:37:39I think so.
00:37:40She's freshening up.
00:37:42Good.
00:37:43Because it's all set.
00:37:44The second she goes over to him, he's going to embarrass her in front of the whole school.
00:37:49It's going to be so boss.
00:37:51Yeah.
00:37:52Real boss.
00:37:53Don't check it out now, Truman.
00:37:56Get in there before she changes her mind.
00:37:58What's the holdup?
00:38:13I have a seat.
00:38:16Oh, you can barely see it.
00:38:18Let me touch you up before you go back out.
00:38:21You'll be dropped dead.
00:38:22Okay.
00:38:24Let me pee first.
00:38:25I'm nervous.
00:38:32I can't believe Tim likes me.
00:38:35I can't believe Tim likes me.
00:38:54Wills?
00:38:55Yeah?
00:38:56Yeah?
00:39:01I need to tell you something.
00:39:04What?
00:39:05I am.
00:39:12Well.
00:39:17The truth is.
00:39:19Ah!
00:39:21Marge?
00:39:21Marge, are you okay?
00:39:26Ah!
00:39:27How?
00:39:29What?
00:39:33Ah!
00:39:33Ah!
00:39:34Marge, what's wrong?
00:39:37Ah!
00:39:39Ah!
00:39:40My eyes!
00:39:44Marge!
00:39:45Oh, boy.
00:39:51Ah!
00:39:52Whatever you do, just don't look at it, okay?
00:39:54Marge!
00:39:55Who knows?
00:39:55It's so funny.
00:39:56It's so funny.
00:39:57I don't know.
00:39:58All right.
00:39:58Why do you want me to find her?
00:39:59Oh, boy!
00:39:59Oh, boy!
00:40:00I don't know.
00:40:00I don't know!
00:40:02No, look.
00:40:02No, no, you're there.
00:40:02Ah!
00:40:03More sweet!
00:40:04No!
00:40:04Oh, boy!
00:40:05No!
00:40:05Oh, boy!
00:40:06No!
00:40:06Oh!
00:40:07Don't miss me!
00:40:07No!
00:40:08Oh, boy!
00:40:09Oh!
00:40:10Oh!
00:40:10Oh!
00:40:11Oh!
00:40:12Oh!
00:40:12Oh!
00:40:13Oh!
00:40:13Oh!
00:40:14Oh!
00:40:15Oh!
00:40:16Oh!
00:40:16Oh!
00:40:17Oh!
00:40:18Oh!
00:40:18Oh!
00:40:20Oh!
00:40:20Oh!
00:40:21Oh!
00:40:22Oh!
00:40:22Oh, my God.
00:40:52Oh, my God.
00:41:22Let go!
00:41:24Let go!
00:41:26Let go!
00:41:28Go!
00:41:30No.
00:41:32No, I didn't...
00:41:48You scared me.
00:42:06What were you doing in town today?
00:42:08What do you mean?
00:42:10Paulie said he saw you walking into the police station.
00:42:16I can see the wheels turning, so why don't you just tell me, Shaw?
00:42:20Same way you tell me what happens at that base?
00:42:22That's a security issue. What is this?
00:42:24The man that got arrested at the movie thing?
00:42:26A black man who's arrested for a murder he swears he didn't commit.
00:42:30And his daughter is friends with our son.
00:42:34His daughter?
00:42:39Don't be looking for trouble.
00:42:41There's gonna be trouble anywhere we go.
00:42:43That's the country you swore your life to defend.
00:42:46I'm just making it worth defending.
00:42:48You swore to me that you wouldn't start up here.
00:42:50I can't have you getting arrested again, Shaw.
00:42:53Not now.
00:42:55What I'm doing here is too important.
00:42:58So I just need you to trust me.
00:43:00Just trust me and don't stir the pot.
00:43:02Please, just promise me that.
00:43:06Please.
00:43:09You won't have to worry about me.
00:43:32What Don't you make me feel my way to drive through to me.
00:43:34Please?
00:43:35Yes, sir.
00:43:36You won't have to worry about me.
00:43:37We'll be taking off the ground and you like how does it make an exam rude.
00:43:39There must be a problem for you.
00:43:41I bet I just needed to because you never find it.
00:43:42In powerpoint...?

00:44:00Oh, my God.
00:44:30Oh, my God.
00:45:00Hey, what's wrong?
00:45:15What happened?
00:45:16What?
00:45:17I couldn't sleep.
00:45:18I was using a telescope and there was somebody outside staring at me.
00:45:21What's wrong?
00:45:28You see what you did?
00:45:29Someone's watching the house.
00:45:39Who's out here?
00:45:40Show yourself!
00:45:43Huh?
00:45:45Ah!
00:46:15Wait! You can't just...
00:46:38Handle it. Get back to me.
00:46:43I'm sorry, General.
00:46:45What the hell do you have us chasing?
00:47:08We caught him and his friends scoping out the base,
00:47:10trying to get a peek over our fence, as it were.
00:47:15What's he doing here?
00:47:18Our young Indian friend, Taniel is his name,
00:47:22he knows the location of exactly what we're looking for,
00:47:25but he refuses to answer our questions.
00:47:28So Airman Halloran is going to answer them for us.
00:47:34They're watching over there.
00:47:44What they want me to do to you,
00:47:46it's not going to be pleasant.
00:47:48So why don't you just tell them what they want to know?
00:47:51Save us both a whole lot of pain.
00:47:55Yeah.
00:48:00I don't tell you what I...
00:48:05God, I'm so sorry about this.
00:48:21God, I'm so sorry about this.
00:48:26God, I'm so sorry about this.
00:48:40God, I'm so sorry.
00:48:44Come on.
00:49:14You promised.
00:49:44No!
00:50:14I need to tell you something.
00:50:42No! He's hitting us!
00:50:45No!
00:50:48I'll get you for that.
00:50:53Daniel?
00:50:54Hi, Auntie.
00:50:55Hey.
00:50:57Whatcha doing?
00:50:58Nothing.
00:51:09What is it?
00:51:10You know the story about the monster in the western wood?
00:51:16The galoo?
00:51:17Mm-hmm.
00:51:18All of the kids know that story.
00:51:20The elders may just memorize it when we were like seven.
00:51:23Well, some of our stories are meant to teach us lessons.
00:51:32And some of our stories are real.
00:51:34No.
00:51:39So you're telling me the galoo is real?
00:51:44No.
00:51:45No.
00:51:55Tell me the story.
00:51:56I need to know you remember how all of this began.
00:51:59Millions of years ago, before the time of the first people, an evil spirit was cast down from the darkest part of the night sky, bound inside a falling star.
00:52:18But when the star struck the earth, it broke open, and the spirit was set free.
00:52:30It roamed the woods from many snows and countless moons until the creation of our first ancestors.
00:52:39The star that carried the monster had been its cage, and the stone it was made from still held power.
00:52:49Our wisest took a shard from that star and carved a weapon to protect our people from the monster, which we named the galoo.
00:53:02We kept the dagger close and stayed away from the western wood.
00:53:09As years went by, the legend of the galoo was passed down from generation to generation.
00:53:16We lived in balance with the monster by staying outside of its reach and never hunting in its territory.
00:53:26Until one day, the settlers arrived.
00:53:31We warned them of the danger in the western wood, but they chose to ignore us.
00:53:37They hunted the woods, and just as we had warned them, they were hunted.
00:53:44The galoo fed on them and grew stronger and more powerful.
00:53:51The monster would soon be able to hunt outside of the western wood.
00:53:58Seski, the village's great war chief, was called to counsel by the clan mothers.
00:54:04The creature had grown too powerful.
00:54:06A single dagger could no longer protect all the villages.
00:54:09To save our people, the decision was made.
00:54:14They would have to leave.
00:54:16But Seski's daughter, Nikani, did not want to leave our land.
00:54:21She believed there was another path.
00:54:24She took the dagger and journeyed past the great dead wood with her friends by her side.
00:54:29Finally arriving at the western wood.
00:54:36They entered the woods, seeking the cave where the galoo crashed, to gather more of the sacred stone.
00:54:42When Seski realized that her daughter and the dagger were missing, she formed a search party to bring them both back.
00:54:51But without the dagger, they had nothing to protect themselves from the galoo.
00:55:01The monster showed itself to them, in the shape of the things they feared the most.
00:55:16It separated the war party, one by one.
00:55:27And before she knew it, Seski found herself alone.
00:55:31She was alone.
00:55:56Seski's only hope was in her daughter's hands.
00:55:59Prepare to meet thy god!
00:56:11Even Seski, the great warrior, was no match for the galoo.
00:56:26What?
00:56:27What?
00:56:28What?
00:56:30What?
00:56:40No!
00:56:41No!
00:56:42No!
00:56:43No!
00:56:44No!
00:56:45No!
00:56:48No!
00:56:49No!
00:56:52But it was too late.
00:56:53It was too late. Seski's spirit was already slipping away.
00:57:01And she went to be with the ancestors.
00:57:04No!
00:57:22Though Nakani's tears would not stop flowing, her people were still in danger.
00:57:27She knew what she had to do. Fight for them, just like her mother always had.
00:57:33So Nakani took the dagger and braved the western wood one last time.
00:57:44They found the cave and broke off shards of the ancient star the Galoo had arrived in.
00:57:55A plan was formed. Not to kill it, but to cage it.
00:58:03They would use the shards of its old bindings, the only thing the Galoo feared.
00:58:14To keep our people safe again.
00:58:17The children circled the western wood, which had been the monster's hunting ground for so long.
00:58:23And they buried thirteen sacred shards deep into the earth.
00:58:29Over each stone, they lit a fire. To mark its place. A line the Galoo could not cross.
00:58:44Our people made a sacred promise. To guard the pillars and keep their places secret.
00:58:58So the monster trapped inside could never break free.
00:59:04Our people would be safe.
00:59:08And the Galoo would remain within these pillars forever.
00:59:14Forever.
00:59:18Well done, Daniel.
00:59:24Now you're a part of-
00:59:29Auntie.
00:59:35Are you okay?
00:59:36Well done, Daniel.
00:59:44Great story.
00:59:46So tell me, where are they now?
00:59:50The pillars.
00:59:52How do I find them?
00:59:56You can tell me.
00:59:57You can tell me.
01:00:01Come on.
01:00:28Through there.
01:00:29Through there.
01:00:36Follow the tunnels under the old well.
01:00:40And you'll find the pillars.
01:00:41Under the pillars of the walls.
