00:00So this is an eastern brown snake.
00:02So this is the most common species of snake we get here in the ACT.
00:08Lots and lots of these guys are turning up around people's homes,
00:11their front yards, even in their backyards.
00:14More importantly, every now and then, just purely by accident,
00:17they're also ending up in people's homes.
00:19So they'll often end up in maybe a garage or inside a house.
00:24We had to remove a snake from inside someone's house on Christmas Day.
00:28It is very rare, though.
00:30The animals do, when it gets extremely hot, they do seek shelter.
00:34So they will look for cooler places to be.
00:36So that's why we generally recommend, if you live near a reserve or a lake or a river here in Canberra,
00:41keeping in mind it is the bush capital of Australia.
00:44You do also want to be aware not to leave your front door propped open or anything like that,
00:49especially if you have a native garden.
