Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed to start the final week of the year as U.S. futures steadied after the S&P 500 hit fresh highs and closed a strong holiday-shortened week.

00:02Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed on Monday as investors began the final trading week of the
00:07year, according to CNBC. Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.44% while the topics edged higher,
00:14as South Korea's Kospi and Kostak posted gains of 2.2% and 1.4%, respectively. Hong Kong's
00:22rose 0.7%, while China's CSI 300 fell 0.38%, and Australia's S&P ASX 200 declined 0.42%.
00:33U.S. equity futures were flat in early Asian trading after the S&P 500 hit a new high
00:39and posted weekly gains on Friday. The S&P 500 slipped 0.03% after briefly rising 0.2%,
00:48while the NASDAQ fell 0.09%, and the Dow edged down 0.04%. The S&P 500 rose 1.4% for the week,
00:58marking its fourth gain in five weeks, while the Dow and NASDAQ each advanced more than 1%.
