02:07there's more out there for us we know there's a lot more room to improve and there's answers
02:14out there that we have to find and and put them to work and and and elevate we have to use that as
02:20we go into this week of preparation this is resolves over time right that red line right there is what
02:26we think should happen right we put a little bit of work in we should see an improvement and then we put
02:32more an improvement improvement a steady improvement is what we should see without question that's what
02:37we should see because if i don't see that then it's not worth doing we got another opponent ahead of us
02:42and you know be another great challenge so we got to continue to prepare the right way and uh if we do
02:49that saturdays will take care of itself
03:07you know going into this week for nc state we're going to prepare just like any team
03:11our preparation doesn't change based on our opponent we pride ourselves of not beating ourselves so that's
03:16the things we're going to work on to continue to improve and not try to make it bigger than what
03:20it is you know it's another game at home which is a huge huge deal for us take a lot of pride in
03:26defending our house defending our home at the stadium go work go work go work the biggest thing for us is
03:32to not get complacent with the last two weeks i we've won three in a row but uh everybody in the

04:13feels bad but there's things you got to do so you got to continue to do the things that help you
04:19be able to come out here and prepare the right way let's go get a break get a break get a break get a
04:26baby
04:44i wasn't really that big on football yet
04:52I definitely became more a fan of Notre Dame.
04:55It was because my dad.
04:56Bryant is a huge individual.
04:59277.
05:01He's got arms as big as my legs.
05:03Johnson, hit and cross.
05:05Bryant Young.
05:07I always knew he played football.
05:10And he is sacked.
05:12You just have kids coming up to you,
05:14finding out who your dad is.
05:15And it's like, wait, your dad is blah, blah, blah, blah.
05:18Saturdays were for Notre Dame football.
05:22Notre Dame has always been a special place to me.
05:2497 Bryant Young.
05:26His tackles are special.
05:29Just to be back here in this capacity as a parent,
05:34everybody adopts and makes it feel like your family.
05:39It feels like home.
05:41Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Bryant Young
05:45for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
05:49I proudly wore gold throughout my career.
05:52I'll cherish this jacket for the rest of my life.
05:56Today, for me, it's about faith, football, and family.
06:02From my pain, I found purpose.
06:04I entered the hall as a member of its 22, 20, 22, 22.
06:18It was Kobe's favorite number.
06:21We ran into these strange people selling lemonade in the area.
06:27Do you want some?
06:30Kobe was a great older brother.
06:32Super passionate about everything.
06:35He was the goofy guy in the room.
06:37Like, he brought a smile to all our faces.
06:40There were some moments where we butted heads,
06:42but the majority of the time, it was very, like,
06:45him telling me what I needed to be successful.
06:47I know that's, like, kind of hard to understand.
06:49Like, we're just little kids.
06:51Bryce, as a younger brother, looking up to his older brother.
06:55He respected him highly.
06:57He always wanted to kind of be around him and fit in
07:00and just kind of do what he was doing.
07:02Hey!
07:03What do you say, Janet?
07:04Back's up right here!
07:05Kobe was very passionate about football.
07:07Go Kobe! Go Kobe! Go Kobe! Go Kobe!
07:10That was his thing, and he was doing anything he could
07:13to get better every day.
07:14All right, Kobe!
07:16I think he loved the camaraderie of the sport
07:18and just the competitive nature that it had to it,
07:21and that always brought the best out of him.
07:28The first time that we realized
07:30that something was wrong with Kobe
07:31was the day that he was supposed to leave
07:34with his middle school class
07:36to go to this retreat that they did
07:38at the beginning of school year.
07:40But he was like,
07:42Dad, I got a headache.
07:44My head hurts really, really bad.
07:47And so it was hurting bad enough
07:52where we kept him back
07:53from going on this three-day retreat with his class
07:56that we took him to the pediatrician.
08:00She wanted him to get a CT scan.
08:06She called my wife and basically was like,
08:10Kobe has a mask on his brain.
08:12We need to get him admitted to the hospital
08:15to run further tests.
08:19And so we discovered that he had cancer,
08:22and that was probably the most devastating news
08:25that I had heard ever in my life.
08:28I remember they went to the doctor.
08:33They came home.
08:34I hear the car pull up,
08:35and I see Kobe jump out the car,
08:38and he's like, he's like kind of hysterical,
08:41tears running down his cheek.
08:43My parents come in the house.
08:44They sit us all down,
08:45and they're like, yeah,
08:46Kobe has a brain tumor.
08:48No way this is real.
08:50Like, I was only, what, eight or nine?
08:52But I was like, no way this is real.
08:58It's like worse than a curse word.
09:00I would rather somebody curse me out
09:02than hear the word that your kid has cancer.
09:05Because as a parent,
09:06it was one thing that I could not protect my kids from
09:11as a father, and I felt helpless.
09:15The thought of him passing away never crossed my mind.
09:18Oh, he's going to make it through this.
09:19Like, we're going to get through this.
09:20We're going to go back to normal.
09:22Kobe's initial response to the news
09:25that he had cancer was distraught.
09:27He was emotional.
09:29He was afraid.
09:30You know, the thought of him dying came up.
09:34He dealt with it.
09:35He had a day of just, you know, feeling it,
09:38or two or three.
09:39And then it was like, okay, what do we got to do?
09:44When the doctor advised him not to play football again,
09:48the news of that crushed him.
09:50He cried like a baby because he couldn't play football again.
09:58Like, that probably hurt him more than actually having cancer
10:01and not being able to play football.
10:03Knowing that his dreams were taken away from him in that way.
10:07Less than two weeks post-op from having a brain surgery.
10:12He was back in school.
10:13Coach invited him to come out and be a part of the team running out of the tunnel.
10:20It was Friday Night Lights.
10:22Kobe was excited.
10:23That one was super cool.
10:33Kobe led the team out.
10:36You just see his big smile.
10:39Everybody cheering him on.
10:41And it was his moment to be back on the field in this capacity.
10:46That gave him a lot of hope.
10:48I think that lifted his spirits a lot.
10:52Kobe was a very strong individual.
10:54Not only physically, but mentally.
10:56You never knew when he was having a bad day.
10:59Because he was always the brightest light in the room.
11:02But he could only take so much, you know?
11:07He was in remission for a couple months.
11:09And then they found it again going down his spine.
11:12And that's when things really took a turn for the worst.
11:17I knew how much pain he was going through every day.
11:22Like, he couldn't talk anymore.
11:24Like, he wasn't talking.
11:26And that was very hard.
11:27But every once in a while, he would walk in.
11:30And he would just smile at you.
11:32And he knew he was thinking about you.
11:37We just wanted him to be comfortable.
11:39And not suffer anymore.
11:41Because I felt like he had fought a really tough battle.
11:48As a young 15-year-old kid, doing the very best he could.
11:54He looked at his square in the eyes.
11:57And he faced it head on.
11:59And we loved on him to the very, very end, bitter end.
12:04The date, October 11th, is special to our family.
12:08And it's when Kobe transitioned to heaven.
12:15That was really hard.
12:17I wasn't ever going to see him smile or hear him laugh
12:20or make me laugh again.
12:22I lost my big brother.
12:24That was very hard to cope with.
12:28Toward the end of Kobe's life,
12:30Kobe leaves a message to Bryce.
12:32And he says something to the fact that he,
12:35Bryce would be able to write his own ticket
12:38and go to any college he wants to
12:40because he's a bright kid.
12:45He saw the best in Bryce.
12:47He championed Bryce.
12:49Here comes the pressure!
12:51He goes down!
12:52Bryce Young with a sack!
12:55I tell Bryce a lot.
12:57I say I could see Kobe and the big smile on his face.
13:03Kobe just loved sports.
13:05He loved Notre Dame.
13:06He was a huge Notre Dame fan.
13:08And he would be cheering Bryce on.
13:12Now I have his love for the game.
13:14So I've kind of take his mission and my mission
13:17to combine it.
13:18And he's really my why.
13:20He's like why I'm inspired to play football.
13:22Good afternoon and welcome to Notre Dame football.
13:40Fighting Irish winners of three straight
13:42looking to keep it rolling today
13:44against the Wolfpack of North Carolina State.
13:49First time that NC State has made the trip
13:52up to Notre Dame Stadium since 2017.
14:01Let's go to work, man.
14:02Here we are.
14:03Right?
14:08Think about this, man.
14:09We've elevated and we're at the next stage.
14:13We were just here seven days ago
14:15and we had to elevate to get to this stage.
14:17Well, we elevated.
14:19Remember our foundation.
14:22Right?
14:23Remember that feeling.
14:24Remember the pain.
14:25Because that's when we learned how to sacrifice.
14:29Everybody said, don't lose it.
14:31Don't lose it.
14:33Submit to the mission.
14:37Submit to the mission of Team Glory.
14:41If we respect each other enough, we'll submit to it.
14:43Marcus Freeman has him out the tunnel.
14:44And in the sixth game of the season, here come the Irish.
15:02I think our identity is the same every week.
15:05You want to start fast.
15:08We've got to be physical and then take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to us.
15:13Bailey stands in the shotgun, claps for the football and takes the snap on second and five.
15:22Looking left.
15:23Now looking right.
15:24He's in trouble.
15:25And he goes down.
15:26Boubacar Traore sacks him.
15:27He has just been a monster.
15:28At the end of the day, we've got to be who we say we are as a defensive front.
15:41And it's only getting better every week.
15:43That line starting to make things happen here over the last couple of weeks.
15:48Way to start.
15:49Way to start.
15:50Now the Irish go to work offensively.
15:54Carr takes the snap.
15:55Looks left.
15:56Now rolls right.
15:58Fires downfield.
15:59Will Pauling's wide open at the NC State 40.
16:01Makes the catch.
16:02Turns upfield.
16:03Takes it inside the 30.
16:04He's all the way down to the Wolfpack 26-yard line.
16:08Wide receivers open up things for us and us running backs making plays.
16:13Opens up plays for wide receivers.
16:15Now Carr checks the play at the line.
16:17Takes the snap.
16:18Looking right.
16:19Carr fires all the way across the field.
16:21Pauling makes the catch at the 13.
16:22Sheds one tackle at the 10.
16:24Cuts inside of the five and he's down.
16:26Another big pick up for Will Pauling.
16:30Pistol set again with love at the back.
16:33My mindset going into every game offensively is just to, you know, go out there attacking
16:37the one game.
16:38Carr takes the snap.
16:39Gives it to love.
16:40Puts his head down for the goal line.
16:42He's in.
16:43Go score.
16:44Touchdown.
16:45Notre Dame.
16:46Jeremiah Love opens it up.
16:51I don't want to get in there.
16:52He got a lot of confidence in handing the ball to Jeremiah Love at any point in
16:57any yard line on the field.
16:58Because you know he protects the football and he runs hard.
17:01And so there's a lot of confidence built in Jeremiah Love.
17:04Jeremiah Love.
17:09We came out swinging.
17:10Let's go D!
17:11Let's go!
17:12Let's go D!
17:13Let's go!
17:14Let's go D!
17:15Let's go!
17:16I came aggressive.
17:17I think it was just, we got too relaxed.
17:19Notre Dame trying to provide some pressure.
17:22The ball is going deep downfield with plenty of time and it's complete!
17:28And that is Terrell Anderson for the touchdown!
17:3245 yards!
17:35They did an out and up and took a shot on the young freshmen.
17:38And explosive plays will happen.
17:39We don't love it.
17:40But they went on and scored.
17:46Whatever coaching points we have to make, let's make them.
17:49We have to clean it up man.
17:51We just become undisciplined.
17:53And then we got to refocus and win the next play.
17:55Notre Dame is going for it on fourth down and three.
17:59The ball at the eight.
18:02You know, I think a lot comes down to conviction that we'll get it.
18:06Convert it.
18:07And then analytics plays into a lot of my decision making in those situations.
18:12They fake it to Bryce and now Carr's running for his life.
18:18Just heaving it into the end zone and it is picked up in the end zone.
18:24And now that's two red zone trips in which they're empty today.
18:28Both phases.
18:30Let's go.
18:31Bailey takes the snap.
18:33Looking right.
18:34Here comes the pressure.
18:35Now spins.
18:36Stays on his feet.
18:37Trying to get away.
18:38He's across the 35.
18:39Up to the 40.
18:40Taken down.
18:41Marcus Freeman uses his final timeout.
18:44Notre Dame is going to get the ball back.
18:46And this is a big one.
18:47Final play most likely of this first half.
18:50Tied at seven.
18:51A chance to grab some points before the break.
18:53Good snap.
18:54Good hold.
18:55Burnett drives a low one.
18:56And this kick is good.
18:57Right before halftime.
18:58Notre Dame takes the lead.
18:59Thanks to a 48 yard field goal from Noah Burnett.
19:00And a breath of relief from Coach Freeman as it goes through the uprights.
19:02Everybody's nervous.
19:03As a loss almost surely knocks them out.
19:05This game ain't nothing but a whole bunch of one-on-ones.
19:06All right.
19:07And that's what we have to make sure we do.
19:08Everybody, every coach, every player has a job to do on this play.
19:14Time to take a night, is the guy to do that, is it a gull嘛.
19:19everybody's nervous it's a loss almost surely knocks them out this game ain't
19:26nothing but a whole bunch of one-on-ones right and that's what we got to make sure
19:29we do everybody every coach every player has a job to do on this play and it's
19:36your job to get that job done you have a job to do on that play the only thing
19:43they got is what we give them we give them the touchdown because we don't
19:48play with the proper technique how do you stop you just do your job with the
19:51proper technique because you're so locked in on this moment get your jobs done
19:56all of us all of us all of us get it done and let's celebrate my message was very
20:07clear don't beat Notre Dame the only people that can beat Notre Dame is
20:10Notre Dame we got to eliminate some of the mistakes and self-inflicted issues fourth
20:16down and two I don't think Marcus Freeman can risk it in his own territory
20:20have them ready have them ready now I think Butner's in the shotgun number 10's
20:25in Butner's in the shotgun takes the snap he's gonna fake the handoff run forward and
20:30he's got the first down up to the 41 how about that unbelievable execution by Notre Dame and what a moment for Tyler
20:40we're in execution good job
20:44good job
20:49Carr is gonna make a check at the line take the snap here comes the pressure they pick it up Carr firing endzone touchdown KK Smith brings it in and the Irish extend the lead
21:0118-yard strike from car to Smith and some breathing room for the Irish
21:07the biggest thing for me you know coming out in the second half was to play fast and once you make a decision be a hundred percent in that decision
21:28let's get Jeremiah Love going just 12 carries 32 yards
21:32and if somebody's in your way
21:34you know hit him
21:35second and ten
21:37loves the back gets the carry now bounces out to the left along the far numbers here he goes down the far sideline over the 30 up to the 40 best run of the day for Jeremiah Love
21:45345 left
21:49345 left in the third
21:51Carr surveying just picking apart this defense now that is KK Smith for another big game
21:57Hey! Execute! This is important!
21:59Carr, a laminere hash, takes the snap, looks, throws, Pauling catches at the two for the goal line, he's in!
22:06Yeah! Yeah!
22:10Touchdown, Notre Dame! Will Pauling is back in the endzone
22:16Hey, protect! Let's go, protect! Protect!
22:20Wolf at 11, Wolf back, gonna give it a shot, Bailey steps up, goes over the net, and that pass is picked off by Yvonne Shuler!
22:28Every week, we go in our keys to victory, plus two and takeaways are always our number one
22:36Bailey takes the snap, rolls right, here comes the pressure, everybody's getting home, now a throw and it's picked off!
22:43Kingston-Biliamuasa has it at 35, down the near sideline, second interception for Notre Dame
22:50You're seeing a defense that's improving and the intentionality that they're putting into the work
22:56What a play by Kingston-Biliamuasa, right in the perfect spot, and that's where he's been all season
23:02Hell yeah, D! Hell yeah, D! Hell yeah, D!
23:05You know, this journey is gonna be a long one, and you can't define who you are based off one day, one game
23:12It's the ability to put your head down, continue to work, no matter if you had a great game and gave up seven points or you gave up more
23:18Clock hits six minutes to play, Carr claps for the football on first and ten
23:24Looking left, has a clean pocket, now he's gonna step up, trying to find Reardon
23:28Oh, he goes up and brings it in, on the far sideline, at the two-yard line!
23:34What a throw from Carr, and an incredible catch by Eli Reardon, 36 yards
23:42First and goal, Irish will hand it off, it's Love for the end zone, Love's in, another touchdown for Jeremiah Love!
23:50Exclamation point on the day against the Wolfpack
23:54That's Notre Dame right there, that's Notre Dame, that's how you're supposed to play, good job
24:00We're not satisfied with anything that's going on right now, we always want more, we want to be able to just get better every single week
24:09They've won four straight, and they hit the halfway point at 4-2 with all kinds of momentum as they get set for USC next week
24:20We're still on a mission to reach our full potential, and we'll do anything necessary to reach that
24:30I just want you to think about one thing before you say this, right?
24:33The work, the work you put in all week, the work this coaching staff puts in all week, to be able to say this at the end of a game
24:42That's important man, alright, so let's make sure we enjoy this thing
24:45One, two, three, here come the Iron Man!
24:48Oh, yeah, man!
25:16Welcome to the Pro Football Hall of Fame
25:18It is my pleasure to welcome you to the formal opening of our newest exhibit,
25:23Gold Helmet to Gold Jacket.
25:25It is our way of showing appreciation to the 14 members of the Fighting Irish Football alumni
25:32who are enshrined here in Canton.
25:36No institution has sent more players into professional football.
25:41No institution has sent more individuals into enshrinement in Canton, Ohio.
25:47The Pro Football Hall of Fame.
25:49And no institution can show a direct thread from the beginning of professional football in 1920
25:56and our inaugural class in 1963 up through the present day like the University of Notre Dame.
26:05Notre Dame, throughout the decades, even though they haven't won a national championship since 1988,
26:10is still able to put the best players on the field and get players through the NFL.
26:16It's a lineage. It's a brotherhood. It's a family.
26:19And it shows that spanning the course of multiple decades, Notre Dame has been a constant.
26:25I want to thank Dave Casper for coming here.
26:29One of the 14 that you learn a little bit more about from this exhibit.
26:33Dave was an offensive lineman to start his career at the University of Notre Dame.
26:39Moved to tight end for the 1973 season and responded immediately by becoming a collegiate All-American.
26:46Notre Dame won the national championship that season.
26:49Thank you, Dave, for being here.
26:51Member of the class of 2002, Dave Casper.
26:54We started in 1887.
27:08We've been here together an awful lot in an awful long time.
27:11And all I can tell you is I'm so very fortunate to be part of this Notre Dame group
27:17because we don't know how to get along with each other. We love each other.
27:21That is the one, I think, truth about college football.
27:24At the end of the day, Notre Dame is going to be there.
27:27Notre Dame and Southern Cal, the most spectacular of all the intersectional series in the realm of collegiate football.
27:34So many great rivals, but nobody comes to mind more. And I love to see the Irish beat as USC.
27:40So could you share maybe any memorable stories about the atmosphere?
27:44The Trojan horse is coming onto the field.
27:47Notre Dame crushes USC 30 to nothing.
27:51They're a great team. You know, you can't have a great rivalry without a great rival.
27:55So I don't dislike Southern Cal because they've given us so many opportunities to have a great rivalry.
28:01And I actually hope they generally win. I don't want them to lose to a crummy team.
28:05I just want them to lose to us.
28:12USC and Notre Dame is one of the biggest national rivalries in college football.
28:17The amount of history and success that both of these teams have is part of the reason it means so much to beat each other.
28:24Southern Cal-Notre Dame rivalry throughout the years has just been an unbelievable football game.
28:30I think it's up on top of all the rivalries in the country.
28:33And, you know, of course, year in and year out, it's a hard-hitting contest and just a great football game.
28:39You've had Heisman Trophy campaigns, national championship hopes.
28:47You've had these things dashed in that game.
28:50But ultimately, these are programs that are iconic.
28:54They're blue bloods. Everyone knows them.
28:57So even if you're not a fan of either of these teams, you've got strong feelings about USC or Notre Dame.
29:02Probably the moment that it hit me harder than any time was actually on a Friday night pep rally.
29:14Call this one the game of the millennium.
29:16Number nine, Notre Dame against number one, USC.
29:25And they decided that they were going to have a pep rally not in the Joy Center where they normally did.
29:31But they were going to have it in the stadium.
29:39I go, you have got to be kidding me.
29:42We're in front of 45,000 in a Friday night to get ready for the biggest game of the season between, at this point, Notre Dame and USC.
29:50In the ten years I've been on this show, I've never seen build up in anticipation for a game like this.
29:55It was nuts. For a pep rally?
29:58I remember Rudy being out there.
30:03You beat! You beat! You beat!
30:08People were absolutely off the chain. They were nuts. You would have thought the game was being played.
30:14People were that fired up about the possibility that maybe Notre Dame football is back.
30:26The build up has been tremendous and the moment is here.
30:30So just the last couple of minutes of that game, you could write a book about.
30:35Quinn, the short drop. He's going to take it.
30:37Quinn and Brady Quinn. Stopped!
30:40Touchdown!
30:41Brady Quinn leads Notre Dame down the field, but then USC faced a fourth and long.
30:50Leinert on fourth down, in the pocket, goes down the sideline! It's caught!
30:55Jarrett! Just stopped!
30:59And got all the way down inside the Notre Dame ten-yard line.
31:04Matt Leinert rolling to his left. He's going to tuck it under. He is!
31:10Stops short! The clock's still running. Can he get out of bounds?
31:16Time run down! The clock says zero!
31:20Notre Dame has won!
31:23And the students stormed the field.
31:27And it was like, holy cow, they beat this invincible USC team.
31:33Ball comes out. Ball's out. Ball comes out. So that the clock should have stopped.
31:38The game wasn't over. And they had to get all the students back off the field.
31:43Matt Leinert was lined up and Reggie Bush was in the backfield.
31:48Leinert gonna try to sneak it ahead. He got in. Touchdown, SC!
31:56Reggie Bush helps push him into the end zone for the touchdown.
32:01Back then, that was illegal. You weren't allowed to push the runner.
32:05Now everybody does it.
32:07People thought that that should have been a penalty, that that shouldn't have counted.
32:12I mean, one of the best games I've ever seen in my life.
32:15One thing for sure, we have awakened the echoes today.
32:21We asked you in the summer about the state of the series with USC.
32:35So, just ask you again since it's game week.
32:37What are your thoughts on kind of where that is right now?
32:40My opinion is very clear. Let's continue this thing.
32:45The head coach of this football program desires to continue this rivalry.
32:51It's not just because I'm at Notre Dame.
32:58The rivalry between Notre Dame and USC is a great rivalry.
33:02One of the best. And I think it's great for college football and the two institutions to continue this rivalry.
33:09What a game setting up in South Bend, Indiana.
33:14This Saturday night, USC-Notre Dame. How big is this? College football playoff fate.
33:20That's what's on the line.
33:22And if this is the last time these two play in Notre Dame Stadium, I'm gonna riot.
33:28This is the last game under contract. At Notre Dame, there's one more next year in Los Angeles. And then there is no contract.
33:38The future of the USC-Notre Dame rivalry is uncertain.
33:43Notre Dame wants to challenge itself in its schedule, wants to play rivals.
33:48And USC seems more hesitant about moving this forward, not knowing what the college football playoff format looks like,
33:55dealing with all of the additional travel and new opponents that USC has as a member of the Big Ten.
34:01I think at the end of the day, strap it up and go play.
34:04And give fans the best matchups where the best teams are playing each other consistently.
34:10I want those teams to keep playing because a great transcontinental rivalry, as Notre Dame and USC have,
34:18that's pretty rare in college football. Here we go!
34:20Considering the backdrop of maybe this rivalry isn't gonna continue...
34:25Ready, ready?
34:26Yes!
34:27It's gonna be good this year. It's gonna be spicy.
34:29All right, good? Go Cibra!
34:33Southern Cal. Here they come.
34:38It's different, and you know it's different.
34:41The crowd's gonna have a little more juice to it.
34:46This is a long storied history.
34:51And if you're a young guy sitting in the back, the guys that are in the front here that have made a name for themselves in this program,
34:59and the people that have played before you, some of that has come from playing in this game.
35:05And doing well in this game.
35:07And the legends for you guys in the front of Notre Dame that people don't forget them ever.
35:13They don't forget who they are.
35:14They don't forget their name.
35:16They don't forget the plays they made.
35:18A lot of it has to do with what happens in this game.
35:21What a privilege.
35:27What a privilege to be challenged by a life you created on purpose.
35:34This is what you asked for.
35:37And now you got it.
35:39What are you gonna do with it?
35:41Take it for granted?
35:43Or you gonna dig in?
35:46Are we going to the next level?
35:49Are we continuing to climb?
35:50Are we continuing to improve?
36:00What we settled for last week
36:05ain't good enough anymore.
36:07Because we've already passed that level.
36:11It's time to raise the ball.
36:14Welcome to Notre Dame football.
36:15Tonight 13th ranked Notre Dame
36:17and 20th ranked Southern Cal at Notre Dame Stadium.
36:22And as is so often the case in this nearly century-old rivalry,
36:27the stakes are incredibly high.
36:29For Notre Dame, the margin for error is gone.
36:31We had known it was going to be an electric environment.
36:36Big rivalry game.
36:38We don't like them.
36:39They don't like us.
36:40Mayanna claps for the football and looks to throw.
36:43The far side of the field.
36:44Lane makes the catch and sheds one tackle at midfield all the way into Irish territory.
36:48That's 17 more through the air for the Trojans.
36:51They get on the ball quickly.
36:52There's some miscommunication in the secondary.
36:53Oh, Hines is wide open down the near side of the field.
36:56Makes the catch the 20 and he's out of bounds.
36:58Christian Gray was all the way on the far side of the field.
37:01He couldn't get back in time.
37:03Come on, Christian. Come on.
37:05Going into the game, we knew their offensive scheme mind.
37:08We knew it was going to come down to defense and we had to win the game.
37:11Maiava in the shotgun along the near.
37:13Hash takes the snap.
37:14Looks right.
37:15Pumps.
37:16Throws.
37:17End zone.
37:18McCree goes up in the back right corner against Shuler.
37:21And it's a touchdown.
37:23USC strikes first.
37:26Pretty impressive opening drive for the Trojans to begin the game.
37:29We're good.
37:30We're good.
37:31We're good.
37:32We're good.
37:33Let's go.
37:34Keep swinging.
37:35Yeah, we knew going into the game it was going to be a great challenge.
37:37One of the top offenses in the country.
37:40Two receivers to the far side of the field for CJ Carr, who claps for it along the near
37:45hash and gives it to Jeremiah Love.
37:46Has a hole.
37:47And here he goes.
37:48Across the 30.
37:49Now he's out to midfield.
37:50Hits the Jets at the 40.
37:51Down the near sideline to the 30.
37:52Across the 20.
37:53All the way down to the 10.
37:55What a run by Jeremiah Love.
37:5864 yards.
38:03We want to go in every week, being able to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage.
38:07So him starting off the game with that big run and breaking free was huge for our team
38:12just to set the standard of how we wanted to kind of roll into that game.
38:17Most surprising thing was that Kamari Ramsey, the safety, was able to actually track him
38:20down in space.
38:21Yeah.
38:22Usually you get Jeremiah Love in a foot race.
38:24He's not losing.
38:25Irish trails 7-0.
38:26It's their first offensive drive.
38:28Pistol set.
38:29Love another carry.
38:30Sheds one tackle at the 10.
38:31Here he goes.
38:32Across the 5.
38:33He's in.
38:34Touchdown.
38:35Jeremiah Love starts the game with a bang.
38:42Got a way to go, baby.
38:43Each week, you know, we want to start fast.
38:46Offensively drive the ball down and score was a really great way to start that game.
38:51All right, way to go for him.
38:58Carl start the shotgun and give it to Jadarian Price.
39:00Up the middle has a hole.
39:01He's across midfield.
39:02Now he's on the move.
39:03Over the 40.
39:04Up to the 30.
39:05Great run by Jadarian Price to open the drive.
39:12Pistol set.
39:13Fresh set.
39:14And it's Price getting the carry.
39:15Running left.
39:16Angling to the far post.
39:17For the end zone.
39:18He's in.
39:19Touchdown.
39:22Jadarian Price is in.
39:24And the Irish take the lead.
39:2616-yard touchdown.
39:28And Notre Dame's on top.
39:3013 to 10.
39:32Hey, all day.
39:33All day.
39:34All day.
39:35All day.
39:36All day.
39:37Good job, J.D.
39:38Good job.
39:39Second down and four.
39:40Carr.
39:41Takes the snap.
39:42Hands it to Love.
39:43Gaping hole.
39:45Up the middle.
39:46Across midfield.
39:47Stays on his feet.
39:48Lowers the shoulder at the USC 40.
39:49Drags defenders.
39:50Inside the 35.
39:52Down to the 33.
39:53He is so fun to watch.
39:5527 yards for Love.
39:57That offensive line is just manhandling.
40:01Billy Trout again.
40:02The left guard just caving down the defensive line.
40:06First and 10.
40:07Love's back in the game.
40:08Gets the carry.
40:09Gets to the outside.
40:10Farhash turns upfield inside the 10.
40:11Throws a stiff arm at the 5.
40:12And he's all the way down to the 3-yard line.
40:1517 more for Love.
40:17He's up beyond 1.30 in the game already.
40:21And Billy Shrouth is down grabbing his knee.
40:23Oh, no.
40:24Yeah.
40:25He's in a lot of pain.
40:28Shrouth the captain.
40:30Left guard.
40:31Time out for an offensive player.
40:32Great leader on this team.
40:34Stand up.
40:35Breathe, boy.
40:36Breathe.
40:37Breathe.
40:38Breathe.
40:39Breathe.
40:40Breathe.
40:41Breathe.
40:42Breathe.
40:43Breathe.
40:44Breathe.
40:45Breathe.
40:46Breathe.
40:47Breathe.
40:48Breathe.
40:49Breathe.
40:50Breathe.
40:51There you go.
40:52There you go.
40:53And it's third down and goal from the 2-yard line.
40:56Love is the back.
40:57They're all bunched tight to the formation.
40:59Carr's in the shotgun.
41:00Motion's Raritan.
41:01Gives it.
41:02No.
41:03Fakes it.
41:04Love rolls left.
41:05Now he's in trouble.
41:06Carr rolling right.
41:07He's at the 10.
41:08Scrambling.
41:09Back to the 20.
41:10Carr keeping the play alive.
41:11Looking downfield.
41:12Heaves it.
41:13Oh, it's picked off.
41:14A disastrous play in the red zone for Notre Dame.
41:16You can't do it.
41:17You can't do that to your team.
41:18You can't do that to the team.
41:19You can't do that to your team.
41:20You can't do that to your team.
41:21You can't do that to your team.
41:22You can't do that to your team.
41:23You can't do that to your team.
41:25You can't do that to your team.
41:26Can't do it.
41:27Just made a poor decision throwing the ball.
41:30Next time we get it, you know, know where we are,
41:32know we have points and throw the ball away.
41:35Well, there's a lot to digest in that first half.
41:38Yes, there is.
41:39But one thing is for sure, that feels the way it used to look.
41:42That is Notre Dame-USC if you've ever seen it.
41:43It really does.
41:44And it feels like USC has been out playing Notre Dame,
41:46but Notre Dame's winning by a point.
41:48Play a clean second half and it should be a good ending for you.
42:05Rain begins to fall even harder here as the second half begins.
42:09Just aim out anything else.
42:11Just be you.
42:12Just be you.
42:13That's why you're here.
42:14Well, that's what makes you special.
42:16Second play of this drive.
42:19This time Love gets the carry running left.
42:21Over tackle.
42:22Has some space across the 40.
42:23Now getting to the edge along the numbers.
42:25Over McField.
42:2616 yards on that carry for Love.
42:28I thought the weather helped us, to be honest with you.
42:30I thought we could control the line of scrimmage throughout the whole game.
42:33Third down and seven suddenly for Notre Dame there.
42:360 for 5 on third down tonight.
42:38Carr takes the snap.
42:40Hands it to Love.
42:41Stutter steps in the hole.
42:42Breaks a tackle up to the 10.
42:43Stays on his feet.
42:44Got the first down.
42:45Another impressive run from Jeremiah Love.
42:48Gets 10 yards.
42:49And sets up first and goal.
42:51Carr claps the football.
42:54Looks over the middle.
42:55For Pauling.
42:56At the goal line.
42:57He caught it.
42:58Touchdown.
42:59Notre Dame.
43:00They open the second half with a score.
43:04Boy, that's how you come out in the third quarter with the ball.
43:0775 yards on 13 plays.
43:10They take nearly half of the third quarter clock off the board.
43:14Let's go.
43:15Let's go.
43:16Let's go.
43:17That's the O.
43:18Yes, sir.
43:19Yes, sir.
43:20Good job, T.
43:21Yeah, baby.
43:22There's a huge drive and take off all that clock.
43:25You get points and then it's great coming out of half and putting points on the board like that.
43:32Five minutes and 25 seconds left in the third quarter between the Irish and the Trojan.
43:36And Notre Dame leads 21-16 in a rainy South Bend, Notre Dame Stadium.
43:43They really need to hold USC out of the end zone here.
43:46They're picking on Christian Gray.
43:48They know that Notre Dame plays a lot of man and they're going to find their spots.
43:53Those are some of the top guys in the country.
43:56And we knew that, you know, the game plan was to get the ball to them.
44:00And we knew defensively, like, we were going to have to be on our eight game all game to have a chance
44:05to have a chance to win.
44:07Shot done for Mayaba on second and four.
44:09Pumps now looking downfield.
44:10Has Lane with a step in the 25 and he caught it.
44:12At the 20.
44:13Breaks a tackle and he's gone.
44:15Inside the 10.
44:1659 yards.
44:18Jacoby Lane gives the Trojans the lead.
44:22Well, they've had a game plan going in.
44:24They're going to go on Christian Gray.
44:27I was just trying to play to my leverage.
44:29And then, you know, unfortunately he just, you know, got back over the top.
44:33Ran a double move route.
44:35I remember I was just really trying my hardest just to run.
44:39We saw this exact thing last year.
44:41Christian Gray just got beat by Jacoby Lane.
44:44Nobody feels bad.
44:45You either step up to a challenge, right?
44:47Or you get your ass replaced.
44:48Step your ass up!
44:50The conversation I had with Freeman was like, he told me, when you going to challenge?
44:55You got to do your job, right?
44:57And if you're going to be out there, there's an expectation that you get your job done.
45:01And so he understands that.
45:03We're not going to baby you.
45:04We're not going to sugarcoat it.
45:05They've got to find a way to play through it right now.
45:07They got to move on.
45:09They just took the lead and had the momentum.
45:12We were down.
45:13We needed a spark.
45:17Price might get his hands on it here.
45:21Fields a yard deep in his end zone.
45:23Bringing it back right to left.
45:25Breaks one tackle at the 15.
45:27Gets to the outside.
45:28Down the far sideline.
45:29Over the 30.
45:30Cuts back inside of the 40.
45:31Across midfield.
45:32Here goes Price.
45:33Hits the afterburners.
45:3430, 20, 10.
45:36To the house!
45:37100-yard touchdown return!
45:41Jadarian Price!
45:43He didn't know when that ball was being kicked off, that would be the result.
45:47But anytime he gets the ball in his hands, we got a chance to take the ball all the way.
45:53That's what he did.
45:54Credit to the 10 other guys that got their job done blocking.
46:01Yeah, the kickoff was a game changer.
46:03Warming up on the sideline, getting ready to go.
46:06And he breaks one off and does what he does.
46:09We've seen that before.
46:14In Notre Dame Stadium, we've seen that before.
46:16From the one-yard line is Jadarian Price.
46:1810, 15, 20.
46:20Cut back to the middle.
46:21Uh-oh!
46:2230!
46:23There he goes!
46:2440!
46:25Far side of the field.
46:2650!
46:27Farm numbers!
46:2840!
46:2930!
46:30It's a foot race!
46:3120, 10!
46:32And he will win!
46:33Yes!
46:34Touchdown Irish!
46:3599 yards!
46:36Jadarian Price!
46:38Oh, you think they've earned their lesson yet!
46:41Do not kick it to Jadarian Price!
46:45A ton of football left.
46:47Goodness!
46:48What a fun game between these two teams.
46:51Doesn't get any better than this.
46:53I just had to prove something out there.
47:06I was just really just in my head just like, all right, bro.
47:10It's time to go.
47:11It's time to go.
47:12You gotta push through this.
47:13You gotta go.
47:14You gotta go.
47:15You gotta go.
47:16You gotta go.
47:17You gotta go.
47:18Steps up.
47:19Throws.
47:20And it's intercepted!
47:21Taken away by the Irish at midfield!
47:23Christian Gray!
47:24What do you know?
47:25Bounces back again!
47:27And gets the pick!
47:28One too many times!
47:30One too many times!
47:31And he ran up to me and it was almost like a smile.
47:35Like, you challenge me?
47:36Challenge accepted.
47:37And, uh, I'm so proud of him.
47:39One too many times!
47:40One too many times!
47:41One too many times!
47:42One too many times!
47:43I love it!
47:44I love it!
47:45I love it!
47:46I love it!
47:48I was like, I'm always gonna be here.
47:50Don't ever tell me that I suck like that.
47:53Like, I was just saying so much.
47:57Wow!
48:00There's something so admirable about the way Christian Gray plays.
48:04You gotta have a short memory when you're a cornerback.
48:06Yeah, I said, this is what we do, you know.
48:09Like, this is how we play.
48:10This is our style of football and we're not done.
48:13Lane motions.
48:15Oh, they flip it to Lemon.
48:16He's rolling right.
48:17Has the option to throw.
48:19He wants to throw!
48:20He won't get it away!
48:21Shuler!
48:22Poked it free!
48:23Ball's loose!
48:24The Irish have it!
48:25Kingston Billy Amulasa!
48:27Collects the rock and Notre Dame takes it away!
48:32USC trying to get cute.
48:33Paid the price for it.
48:35Just that whole sequence was huge for the offense, for the defense, for special teams.
48:40Kind of set up an eventual victory.
48:43Carr takes the snap.
48:44He'll keep it again.
48:45Quarterback draw!
48:46Carr's in!
48:47Touchdown!
48:48Yeah!
48:49Notre Dame extends the lead to two scores!
48:54With tradition comes great responsibility and I feel like it was our responsibility to, you know, make the plays and come up on top of our rivalry.
49:04Notre Dame, in the 96th meeting against the Trojans, comes away with a victory.
49:11Another iconic win for the Irish at home against USC.
49:18You know, you grow up and you hear about the big rivalries of college football.
49:23To be a part of it for the first time and collect your first win in it, you know, stamp this team's mark on that rivalry was awesome.
49:30We've had some momentum but we needed this type of victory over this challenging opponent to continue to move forward with this journey in the direction that we all aspire to be.
49:48Everybody wants success but nobody talks about the struggle, man. There was a struggle.
49:53But if you embrace that thing, the feeling of victory is so much greater, man.
49:56And I'm proud as hell of you, man.
49:57Here goes the Irish!
49:59Woo!
50:18I'm proud to go with us!
50:26I'm proud of you.
50:30I'm proud of you who says I'm proud of you who's in the flash.
