00:00:14Marjorie!
00:00:15Oh!
00:00:17Morning, Helen!
00:00:18Christmas begins.
00:00:20It's Eve.
00:00:21Oh.
00:00:22There you go.
00:00:24Jingle bell time and jingle bell time
00:00:27Dancer and prancer
00:00:29In jingle bell square
00:00:31In the frosty air
00:00:34What a prime time
00:00:36Well, I'll get you with a nice cup of tea after that.
00:00:40I've never seen the town centre so busy.
00:00:46Oh, I'm sorry, Helen. I didn't know there was a team meeting.
00:00:49Oh, you're fine, Marjorie. I was just making a small announcement.
00:00:53You'll never believe it.
00:00:54She's only taking us away for the office Christmas party.
00:00:56It's been a tough old year
00:00:58And I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me get through it.
00:01:02Guess what?
00:01:03We're only going to the ruddy Caribbean.
00:01:05Oh, my goodness gracious me!
00:01:08Oh, although it does mean missing the away game of Colchester.
00:01:11What's that matter?
00:01:11It's the Caribbean!
00:01:14What a way to celebrate our...
00:01:15And you've properly budgeted for it, Mum?
00:01:17Yes, Neil. It's all accounted for.
00:01:19Quite sure?
00:01:21You know, I've always wanted to visit that part of the world.
00:01:26Oh, um...
00:01:27Not you, Marjorie, love.
00:01:31It's senior staff only.
00:01:32I am so sorry.
00:01:33I should have said...
00:01:34Oh!
00:01:35Of course.
00:01:36I'm sorry, Helen.
00:01:38Silly old me.
00:01:39Duh!
00:01:39Oh, I probably should get that.
00:01:47We are so at going bikini shopping after work.
00:01:52You might treat yourself to some speed, or as...
00:01:54Duckdale's branded merchandise.
00:01:56Marjorie speaking.
00:02:03Duckdale's branded merchandise.
00:02:04Marjorie speaking.
00:02:06Yes, I'll just put you through to our warehouse.
00:02:07Yes, I'll just put you through to our warehouse.
00:02:37My guest is a professor of the Winklandrum.
00:02:41A-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la,
00:02:42A-la...
00:02:43I'm sorry...
00:02:44No...
00:02:45No...
00:02:45No...
00:02:45No...
00:02:46Yes, I'll just put you through to the seaside.
00:02:47I'm sorry.
00:02:48Oh, I'll just put you through to the seaside.
00:02:49Let's go.
00:03:19Happy Christmas.
00:03:21Who's it?
00:03:35Hi, Marjorie.
00:03:37I just want to let you know that there's a Commissioner Patterson arriving.
00:03:42It's a serious situation over here.
00:03:45Give him access to anything he needs.
00:03:48I've told the police here that we're going to cooperate fully.
00:03:51Will do, Helen.
00:03:52Oh, I hear him now.
00:03:53Um, we'll speak later.
00:03:55Okay.
00:03:57Ah!
00:03:58You must be the policeman from the Caribbean.
00:04:01Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:04:03Selwyn Patterson.
00:04:04So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:04:09The police were called to your colleague's holiday villa, where, I'm sorry to see, a man was formed, shot dead, murdered.
00:04:17All right.
00:04:21See you later.
00:04:27I'm sorry.
00:04:29You are here.
00:04:31I love him.
00:05:01Morning, Miss Baudet.
00:05:04Morning, Seb.
00:05:05It's a final rehearsal for the Nativity this evening.
00:05:08I wish you all the best, and good luck to you, little king people.
00:05:12Yes, I... Yes, yes.
00:05:15Allez, let's go.
00:05:25Good morning, Seb.
00:05:27Morning, Seb.
00:05:28Got a card from Darlene.
00:05:29Oh.
00:05:30Looks like she won't make it back for Christmas.
00:05:33Her auntie's still sick, so she's staying on Montserrat.
00:05:36Nothing in the post for the inspector, you know, from Antica.
00:05:41His brother, you mean?
00:05:43It's been three months.
00:05:45I guess it's like a lot, you know?
00:05:47I mean, getting a letter from a brother you never knew you had...
00:05:51might take some time.
00:05:53I just feel sorry for him.
00:05:55He keeps saying he's fine about it, but I don't think he is.
00:06:01Where is D.I. Wilson?
00:06:03Rehearsing.
00:06:04Oh, yes.
00:06:05Oh, I am so jealous.
00:06:06He must be hyped up to wear that costume, huh?
00:06:08I bet he is.
00:06:12I'm really not happy about this.
00:06:14Why not, Mervyn?
00:06:15Because I look like a ninny.
00:06:17No, you don't.
00:06:19You look very...
00:06:21authentic.
00:06:22I just don't think the boots are helping.
00:06:29Look, with all due respect, Miss Baudet,
00:06:31I just think it'd be better off finding somebody else for this.
00:06:35You know, somebody less...
00:06:37me.
00:06:37Mervyn, it has always been the commissioner
00:06:40who carries out this task for me.
00:06:43With him gone.
00:06:44Inspector!
00:06:45Oh, great.
00:06:46Yes, sir.
00:06:48You look cool, man.
00:06:49Not another word.
00:06:50You're welcome.
00:06:52Could we have a chat, sir?
00:06:59We have a murder to attend.
00:07:02For real?
00:07:05Well, that's that, then.
00:07:06I've got work to do.
00:07:08Conversation over.
00:07:09Conversation post.
00:07:10Sorry, Catherine.
00:07:11Come on, let's go.
00:07:14Um, Inspector.
00:07:17You think maybe you should change first?
00:07:22No, I'm not.
00:07:34I'm not.
00:07:34What are you doing?
00:07:35What are you doing?
00:07:35Oh, my...
00:07:36What are you doing?
00:07:36I don't know.
00:07:36I don't know.
00:07:37I'm not.
00:07:37I don't know.
00:07:38I don't know.
00:07:38The victim's name is Darian St. Jules.
00:07:49He's a local fisherman, lives half a mile up the coast.
00:07:52Right.
00:07:53The guests staying here are from the UK.
00:07:55They all say they haven't a clue who he is or what he was doing here.
00:08:00But clearly, someone must have shot him and left him there.
00:08:03Right.
00:08:04No sign of the gun, but paramedic sourcing with the bullet still lodged in the victim's shoulder.
00:08:11Cause of death was possibly from internal bleeding.
00:08:15Right.
00:08:16And what about you, Inspector? Anything of interest?
00:08:20Well, he certainly liked his aftershave.
00:08:24Have a sniff.
00:08:29I guess that's pretty strong.
00:08:31I don't know if it was cause of his work.
00:08:34You know, slapped on the old cologne to cover the smell of fish.
00:08:37I know a big man in Tootin did the same thing.
00:08:39And that's what bothers you the most.
00:08:41The fact that the victim used a bit too much aftershave.
00:08:45Actually, what's bothering me the most is what's written on the palm of his left hand.
00:08:52Blitzen.
00:08:53Like the reindeer.
00:08:54Is there anyone I can think of?
00:08:58Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donna, Blitzen.
00:09:03And Rudolf.
00:09:05Thank you, Officer Rose.
00:09:09The ink seems fresh.
00:09:11Which means he wrote it in the last 12 hours or so.
00:09:15I mean, not long after, he was shot.
00:09:17When it is Christmas, sir, could just be a coincidence?
00:09:21We have no idea who this guy is or what he's doing in our villa.
00:09:30So how can we know why he wrote the name of one of Santa's reindeer on his hand?
00:09:33I don't know.
00:09:34I'm just asking the question.
00:09:35Not a problem, is it?
00:09:38No.
00:09:39No, of course not.
00:09:41Let's start with you telling me what you're doing here on St. Marie.
00:09:44Well, we flew here for our office Christmas party.
00:09:47It wasn't cheap.
00:09:47We were having the time of our lives.
00:09:54Life's a beat.
00:09:56Life's a beat.
00:09:58No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:10:00No!
00:10:01Oh, my God.
00:10:03Everyone get in.
00:10:10Maybe talk us through the events of last night.
00:10:12Yeah, what happened exactly?
00:10:14We said we'd take it easy for our last night.
00:10:16Then we got back here and carried on drinking.
00:10:30Yeah, looks like quite a party you had.
00:10:32Yeah, damn right it was.
00:10:35Sorry, that's not appropriate.
00:10:37The rum out here, um, it's stronger than we used to.
00:10:43Oh!
00:10:44What happened to Bob?
00:10:45One more straight away and no one is allowed to.
00:10:47Come on, it's our last night!
00:10:51And what time did the party end?
00:10:53I haven't got a clue, mate, to be honest.
00:10:55Yeah, it's all a little bit hazy.
00:10:57I really don't remember very much.
00:10:59You lot are lightweight, man.
00:11:00I remember everything.
00:11:05Helen, you and me put Neil to bed about midnight.
00:11:08I'm sure I wasn't that bad.
00:11:09Oh, you so were.
00:11:12Oh, he's always had a low tolerance.
00:11:14Mum!
00:11:15Sorry, love.
00:11:17Can we just...
00:11:19Yeah, Helen, you went to bed as well.
00:11:21Me and you kept on it till about half three.
00:11:28Gav, you were so cute.
00:11:29You were dead to the world by then.
00:11:31So, uh, I left you asleep in the hammock.
00:11:35And then what?
00:11:39Oh, and then, um, the taxi for the airport woke me up.
00:11:44Everyone!
00:11:45Wake up!
00:11:47Wake up!
00:11:49That's when I saw him.
00:11:51I thought he was asleep at first.
00:11:53But when I got closer, I saw the blood.
00:11:56Someone call an ambulance!
00:11:57Now!
00:12:00You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
00:12:03You didn't hear the gunshot?
00:12:05Well, yeah, yeah, you thought.
00:12:06But, well, it's like Helen said, you know, the room out here, it's, uh...
00:12:09Stronger than you used to.
00:12:11Inspector!
00:12:14That's something you should see.
00:12:18This is the only security camera footage from the villa.
00:12:21Footage is from this morning, outside the front door.
00:12:24The victim arrives at 5.32 a.m., heads inside.
00:12:28The door was unlocked, so he let himself in.
00:12:30After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
00:12:33So, the only way in or out is from the front.
00:12:36And the drop at the back is too steep for access.
00:12:39So, it's got to be one of these four who shot Darren in St. Jules.
00:12:44Which means the gun that they used must still be here.
00:12:47But they're all saying they've never met him before.
00:12:49So, why would one of them kill a total stranger?
00:12:53Hello, can I help you?
00:13:08Have you come to check-in?
00:13:09The name's Helen Dugdale.
00:13:11Of course.
00:13:12One moment, please.
00:13:13I can't believe they're not letting us fly home.
00:13:17This police overreach is what it is.
00:13:20So much for doing something different.
00:13:23Should have just gone to the Red Lion like last year.
00:13:26None of this would have happened.
00:13:29Girl, do you think there's something Helen's not telling us?
00:13:34She's been on edge ever since the police arrived.
00:13:36So, why did Darren go to that villa at 5.30 in the morning?
00:13:48Hmm.
00:13:49Let's see what we find at his house.
00:13:56How are you getting on, sir?
00:13:58Well, I haven't found anything that connects our victim to the suspects.
00:14:02But I have found this.
00:14:04The victim's aftershave.
00:14:05Really?
00:14:06This again?
00:14:06It's different to the one he was wearing at the crime scene.
00:14:09Here, have a sniff.
00:14:13I haven't found any others here.
00:14:15And there certainly wasn't one on his person.
00:14:17So, why did he smell different to the brand of aftershave that he owns?
00:14:20So, I searched the suspects, the villa, and the surrounding areas, and there was no bond.
00:14:42No, it has to be there.
00:14:44No one left the villa after the victim was shot, so the weapon has to be there somewhere.
00:14:48Yeah, no, I totally get the logic, inspector.
00:14:50But you're staying there?
00:14:52For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
00:14:54But that doesn't make any sense.
00:14:55So, sorry.
00:14:56Excuse me.
00:14:57Hello?
00:14:57Yes.
00:14:58Well, this is a strange one.
00:15:01We've got four people suspected of shooting a man they don't know with a gun they don't
00:15:04have.
00:15:05Let's start working through the victim's laptop, see what's on there.
00:15:08We need to find that gun.
00:15:09What?
00:15:13Actually, sir, it's the nativity service, if you'd forgotten.
00:15:17Are you serious?
00:15:18And we promised Catherine we'd make sure you get there.
00:15:22Look, we've got a murder case to solve, in case you hadn't noticed.
00:15:26And I haven't got time for play-acting with a bunch of kids at some school nativity.
00:15:30Then you'd better find the time, inspector.
00:15:35Why is she...
00:15:37Good evening to you, inspector.
00:15:39Officer Curtis was a pleasant surprise.
00:15:42My niece is performing in the nativity tonight, and word has got back to me that they might
00:15:48not have a narrator, because the man who's supposed to be doing it is being a grumpy goose
00:15:54about the whole thing.
00:15:55A grumpy...
00:15:56Now, listen...
00:15:57No, you listen to me.
00:15:58You are doing it.
00:16:00End of.
00:16:01So, get your backside down to that church and man up.
00:16:09You know what, I never did like this sort of thing.
00:16:22Yes, sir!
00:16:22The nativity, carol services.
00:16:26Right.
00:16:27Is there anything about Christmas you do like, sir?
00:16:30No, not really.
00:16:31Oh, hang on.
00:16:32Yeah.
00:16:33The Great Escape.
00:16:34The what?
00:16:35The Great Escape.
00:16:36The movie, it was on telly every Christmas.
00:16:40You know, with the motorcycle stunt.
00:16:42And the cooler.
00:16:43The dirt down the trousers.
00:16:47Oh, I give up.
00:16:48Me too.
00:16:49Nervyn, we're waiting.
00:16:50Ready when you are.
00:16:51Right.
00:16:56Right.
00:16:58Um, here we go then.
00:17:01I guess.
00:17:21You okay?
00:17:26Okay, then.
00:17:31A long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary.
00:17:38She was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.
00:17:41I understand he didn't want to wear a costume, but did he really have to do it in the heart?
00:17:47And then one day, an angel called Gabriel came to Mary and said to her...
00:17:57Sorry, it was mine.
00:18:09I knew it was going to be his.
00:18:15Sir.
00:18:17Sir.
00:18:19It's someone calling from Antigua.
00:18:23It could be...
00:18:23Your brother.
00:18:27Listen, sorry, everyone.
00:18:29I need to take this, yeah?
00:18:36Well, I think one of us shoot her.
00:18:39Don't worry, Miss Baudet.
00:18:41Officer Sebastian Rose to the rescue.
00:18:44Yes, Milika King people.
00:18:46Oh, my God.
00:18:47Oh, my God.
00:18:48Woo!
00:18:50So, a long, long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman, very nice woman.
00:18:58Her name was Mary.
00:18:59She was engaged to a carpenter near Joseph.
00:19:02Mervyn Wilson speaking.
00:19:10Mervyn Wilson speaking.
00:19:12Mr. Wilson?
00:19:13It's Tyree, said Kareiba phone network.
00:19:15I just noticed your contract's coming up in the new year and I thought we could have a chat about upgrading your phone.
00:19:25Mr. Winston, are you still there?
00:19:26Yeah, I'm here.
00:19:29No, no upgrade, thanks.
00:19:31Are you sure about that?
00:19:45The first Noel, the angels did sing, was to certain born shepherds in fields as they lay, in fields as they lay.
00:20:11Teeth, teeth, teeth.
00:20:41Hey sir, you didn't come back. Just wanted to check how you're doing.
00:20:48Yeah, it wasn't Solomon on the phone.
00:20:50Anyway, I've been thinking, we really don't know anything about these people.
00:20:57You know, their lives in the UK.
00:21:00I was thinking we could use someone to do a bit of digging into our suspects back in their hometown.
00:21:04Right. You want me to get in touch with the Swindon police?
00:21:07No, no, no, I've already done that. They're flat out till New Year.
00:21:10But then I remembered we do have someone in the UK who maybe could give us a hand.
00:21:14Ah! You must be the policeman from the Caribbean. Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:21:27Selwyn Patterson. I'm no longer a commissioner. I'm retired now.
00:21:33Right. Okay. So now you're just...
00:21:36Helping out. Somewhat reluctantly, if I'm honest with you.
00:21:41So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:21:45The police were called to your colleague's holiday villa, where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found.
00:21:51Shot dead. Murdered.
00:21:54I'm keen to get on with things and get out of here as quickly as I can.
00:21:58Rightio. Well, I'll give you the guided tour.
00:22:01Uh, welcome to Dugdale's branded merchandise.
00:22:06Uh, so, uh, that desk over there is Helen. She's the managing director.
00:22:12Uh, this desk belongs to our graphic designer, Gavin.
00:22:16Uh, accounts manager, Neil. And Karen, head of sales.
00:22:21And this one?
00:22:22Oh, oh, she's not here anymore. She left a couple of months ago.
00:22:26Who?
00:22:27Uh, Ashley. Ashley Sims, her name was.
00:22:30It was all somewhat clandestine, if you ask me, Mr. Patterson.
00:22:38She did what they call a midnight flit.
00:22:41Never came back.
00:22:43Are you sure you don't want a cup of tea?
00:22:45I'm going to make myself one.
00:22:47This drawer is locked.
00:22:50Oh, yes. It's been like that since Ashley left. She has the only key.
00:22:54I've been meaning to sort it.
00:22:56Oh, yes.
00:22:57Oh, yes.
00:22:58Oh, yes.
00:22:59Oh, yes.
00:23:00Oh, yes.
00:23:03Oh, yes.
00:23:06Oh, yes.
00:23:07Commissioner, you do know what time it is over here, right?
00:23:19Half past three in the morning.
00:23:22But as I've abandoned a good friend's wedding to travel to Swindon and help you out.
00:23:26OK, fair do's.
00:23:28How can I help?
00:23:28The bullet you recovered from your victim.
00:23:31Have you had the ballistics report back on it yet?
00:23:33Yeah, it was a .45 calibre.
00:23:35Most likely fired from a pistol.
00:23:37And did you find the weapon?
00:23:39No.
00:23:40Why?
00:23:41Because I'm currently looking at a .45 calibre pistol in a desk drawer in Swindon.
00:23:51It can't be the same one.
00:23:54Can it?
00:23:55Morning, sir.
00:24:12Morning, Inspector.
00:24:14This can't be right.
00:24:16It just can't be.
00:24:18What's going on?
00:24:18Commissioner found a gun locked in the desk drawer of an ex-employee called Ashley Sims in the Dugdale's offices back in the UK.
00:24:25What?
00:24:26Local forensic lab fast-tracked it and they say that is the gun that fired the bullet that killed Darren St. Jules.
00:24:32Look, security footage shows that no one touched that drawer since the shooting.
00:24:37Wait, so how was that gun used to shoot Darren St. Jules on this island if the same gun was locked in a drawer 5,000 miles away?
00:24:44I know, right?
00:24:45It makes no sense.
00:24:50We need to speak to Helen Dugdale.
00:25:03Helen?
00:25:04If you're in there, can you open the door, please?
00:25:06We need to speak with you about Ashley Sims.
00:25:08There's something you need to see.
00:25:18I guess I want to say sorry.
00:25:22I know it's not enough.
00:25:25And it won't change how you feel about me, but I do mean it.
00:25:33I don't know why I keep doing this.
00:25:37Blow everything up.
00:25:38But, um, this is why I've come here.
00:25:47To get away.
00:25:51Try and understand why I hurt people.
00:25:58That's Ashley.
00:25:58The way that I do.
00:26:02She stole from me, from the company.
00:26:04How much?
00:26:05£500,000.
00:26:07Ouch.
00:26:08My husband, Keith.
00:26:11Dugdale's was his company until he passed away at the start of the year from a heart attack.
00:26:16I'm sorry to hear that.
00:26:17That's when I took over the reins.
00:26:21I really wanted to make it work.
00:26:23And it was around that time that we had a position to fill.
00:26:26And you gave the job to Miss Sims?
00:26:28I knew she had a past, that she'd been to prison, but Keith always believed in giving people a second chance and I wanted to honour that.
00:26:35What Miss Sims let you down?
00:26:36What Miss Sims let you down?
00:26:37Not even a year has passed and I've already lost half a million pounds.
00:26:41Did you report Ashley to the police?
00:26:43I was too embarrassed.
00:26:45So I hired someone to find out where she sent the email from.
00:26:50And that video she recorded, that was sent from this island?
00:26:54Yes.
00:26:54Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Darian St. George?
00:27:00The man I hired discovered that Darian had rented a holiday let to Ashley.
00:27:04That's why I came here to try and get my money back.
00:27:07I made sure our villa wasn't far from Darian's house so it would be easy to go and visit him.
00:27:11So you were lying when you told us you didn't know Darian?
00:27:14Did you meet with him?
00:27:16Yes.
00:27:16A few days ago.
00:27:18He confirmed that Ashley had rented this little place he has down on the beach.
00:27:23That so?
00:27:24So she was definitely here.
00:27:26She'd arrived a few months ago, at the start of October.
00:27:30He still had all the paperwork, but he said that she'd moved on a few days ago and he didn't know where.
00:27:36So what was Darian doing turning up at your villa in the early hours yesterday?
00:27:41I don't know.
00:27:43I really don't.
00:27:44How much do the others know about this?
00:27:46Nothing.
00:27:46They don't know anything.
00:27:47They think they're on a works do.
00:27:49Not even your son?
00:27:50No, not even Neil.
00:27:52So then the only person who knew Darian and therefore wanted him killed was you?
00:27:56No.
00:27:57I swear I didn't.
00:27:59I can see how this looks.
00:28:02But I didn't shoot him.
00:28:04I don't...
00:28:05I need to take this.
00:28:11Commissioner, you got something?
00:28:14Inspector, I've searched Ashley Sims' flat and emailed you over some photographs.
00:28:20I'm afraid there is little of use to your investigation.
00:28:22I think she cleared out her flat before she flew to the Caribbean.
00:28:26Okay.
00:28:27Thanks anyway, sir.
00:28:28Now, if that is everything, I'm going to catch my train and enjoy the rest of my Christmas.
00:28:34Yeah, you have a good one, sir.
00:28:36And you, Inspector.
00:28:37And you.
00:28:46Thank you for your help, Miss Gortz.
00:28:49I didn't do anything, really.
00:28:51And you're nothing if not efficient.
00:28:55So, what are your plans for Christmas?
00:28:58I'm spending it with my daughter and her partner.
00:29:02They've rented a cottage up in the, um, Yorkshire Dales.
00:29:06Oh, it's lovely up there.
00:29:07So, I'm told.
00:29:08I better...
00:29:09I'm flying solo this Christmas.
00:29:12I mean, that's how it's been since Mum passed.
00:29:15Just me, myself and I.
00:29:17Sorry.
00:29:18I really...
00:29:18Oh, no.
00:29:19No, no.
00:29:19I rather enjoy it, actually.
00:29:21You know, there's no family arguments.
00:29:23I can eat what I like, watch what I want on the telly.
00:29:26Christmas alone is underrated, I say.
00:29:30Indeed.
00:29:30No, I really don't want to miss my dream.
00:29:38Goodbye, Mr. Patterson.
00:29:40Goodbye.
00:29:42And Merry Christmas.
00:29:44And a very Merry Christmas to you.
00:29:46Oh, my God.
00:29:49Four passengers on platform.
00:29:52One, awaiting the 3152.
00:29:55Leave.
00:29:56Please be aware that due to frost on the line,
00:30:00this train is now delayed.
00:30:01Please wait for further announcements.
00:30:03So, immigration confirmed Ashley Sims arrived on the island two months ago.
00:30:26But they have no record of her ever leaving.
00:30:29So, in theory, she's still here.
00:30:32Mm-mm.
00:30:35Okay, Officer Rose.
00:30:36I want you to check the harbors.
00:30:37See if anyone matching Ashley's description was taken to one of the other islands in the last few days.
00:30:41Ashley Harbor last few days.
00:30:43Got you.
00:30:43Check the hotels, holiday rentals, guest houses on the island.
00:30:46Hotels, rentals, guest houses.
00:30:48Got you.
00:30:48You need to do whatever it takes to find it.
00:30:50Do you understand?
00:30:51Cool.
00:30:52Totally getting you right now, Inspector.
00:30:53I guess that means we're working Christmas Day then.
00:30:56Obviously.
00:30:57It's a murder investigation.
00:30:58And we need to find out who did it.
00:31:01Right.
00:31:01Only, that's a lot of work for Seb to do by himself over Christmas.
00:31:06Well, my mother has a whole church thing going on and everybody else is busy.
00:31:10So, it's cool.
00:31:11There you go.
00:31:12Sorted.
00:31:12Thanks, Seb.
00:31:16No worries.
00:31:17See you in a bit.
00:31:20I'll let my parents know I won't be flying home this evening.
00:31:24Appreciate it.
00:31:25Ashley Sims aside, we still don't have a scooby how the killer made the gun they shot Darian with disappear from that villa,
00:31:32then reappear in a locked desk drawer back in the UK.
00:31:37And that, Glitzen, what's that about?
00:31:40Unless it has nothing to do with Darian's murder, sir, and it is just a cold.
00:31:46You don't believe in coincidences.
00:31:49I mean, in what circumstance does someone write the name of one of Sansa's reindeer on the palm of their hand?
00:31:58Are you doing all right, sir?
00:32:00After last night?
00:32:02Look, if Solomon doesn't want to get in touch, I'm cool with that.
00:32:06Well...
00:32:06D.S. Thomas, I'd rather we didn't talk about it anymore.
00:32:10All right.
00:32:23D.S. Thomas, I'm at Swindon East.
00:32:28D.S. Thomas, your tannoy keeps announcing there is a rail replacement service to Leeds,
00:32:33but it hasn't turned up.
00:32:36Yeah, it got cancelled.
00:32:39I'm sorry?
00:32:40The service replacing the service that got cancelled also got cancelled?
00:32:46Yeah, that's about the sum of it.
00:32:48No more trains until Boxing Day.
00:32:50So, what do you suggest I do?
00:32:54You know, mate.
00:32:55Have a merry one yet.
00:32:57See ya.
00:32:58And a merry Christmas to you, too.
00:33:02I'm sorry, mate, but it's Christmas Eve.
00:33:14None of my drivers are going to want to go outside of Swindon.
00:33:17You tried a hire car company?
00:33:18Yes, but nothing is available in the area until the 27th.
00:33:29You have no rooms available at all?
00:33:32We're fully booked.
00:33:35Everywhere will be this time of year.
00:33:37Maybe you could try the Salvation Army?
00:33:46This is Andrina.
00:33:48Leave me a message when you hear the beep.
00:33:51It's me.
00:33:52I'm still in Swindon.
00:33:54There's no transport, no hotels.
00:33:56And there's no one here who seems able to help me.
00:34:02And I don't know what to do.
00:34:10Mr. Patterson.
00:34:13I think you'd better come with me.
00:34:16Oh.
00:34:20How did you know I would still be here?
00:34:23Had the local radio on.
00:34:24Said all trains cancelled.
00:34:27We've got to look after each other at Christmas, haven't we?
00:34:33Thank you, Miss Dawgs.
00:34:35It must be freezing.
00:34:37Yes.
00:34:37After you.
00:34:54Good morning to you all.
00:34:55It's 6 o'clock on this beautiful Christmas Day morning here on San Marie.
00:34:59And there's a surprise guest with me here in the studio.
00:35:02I've got a young officer, Sebastian Rose, from the San Marie Police talking with me right now.
00:35:07Yes.
00:35:08It is me, Officer Sebastian Rose from Honoré Police Station.
00:35:12Merry Christmas, everybody.
00:35:14He and his colleagues want your help looking for a young woman called Ashley Sims.
00:35:18Am I right?
00:35:19That is it.
00:35:20You are totally right, Alphonse.
00:35:22If anybody has heard anything, or seen anything,
00:35:24what can happen?
00:35:26Well, what I would say, Jacinta, is even if it was just a glimpse,
00:35:31one of your viewers had this woman, they should still get in touch.
00:35:34Oh, Seb.
00:35:36Oh, and also, the people can check out the video I made on our social media page.
00:35:41At SM Police.
00:35:42Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:35:45If you see her call, it's number.
00:35:47Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:35:50If you see her call, it's number.
00:35:53Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:35:55If you see her call...
00:35:56Commissioner, morning.
00:36:12This is a surprise.
00:36:13Inspector, have you seen that video Officer Rose has put on social media?
00:36:19It's deeply inappropriate.
00:36:21Would you like another sherry, Selwyn?
00:36:23Oh, er...
00:36:25No.
00:36:29Wow, is that...
00:36:30Is that the receptionist?
00:36:33Marjorie Donth.
00:36:34I'm spending Christmas Day with her.
00:36:37Well, I'm glad you two hit it off.
00:36:38Good for you, sir.
00:36:39It's not like that, Inspector.
00:36:42I got stock in Swindon.
00:36:43There were no trains to Leeds.
00:36:45OK.
00:36:45Look, just take that video down.
00:36:48No disrespect, sir, but, um, it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:36:52Just sort it.
00:36:53Inspector!
00:37:03Yeah, I've got his bank statement in front of me.
00:37:06That's great.
00:37:06Could you email it over?
00:37:08I'll do that right away.
00:37:09Cheers.
00:37:20Literally every tree.
00:37:21Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:25Have you seen us?
00:37:27Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:32All right!
00:37:33I'm coming!
00:37:34I've got a lead.
00:37:39A possible suspect for Darien St. Julesy's murder.
00:37:42I need to go and talk with them now.
00:37:44Merry Christmas, sir.
00:37:48Oh, um...
00:37:49Merry Christmas.
00:37:53I'll be right with you.
00:37:54Our financial checks show that two days ago, you wired £100,000 from this island to your bank account back in England.
00:38:12No, he didn't.
00:38:14Do you want to tell us where you got that money from?
00:38:22What did you do, Liam?
00:38:25Yes, Neil.
00:38:26What did you do?
00:38:28I followed you.
00:38:30Why?
00:38:31You were acting so weird.
00:38:33A few days ago, when you went off by yourself.
00:38:36I knew that it had to be about the money that Ashley had taken.
00:38:39I'm sorry.
00:38:40I couldn't understand why you didn't tell me.
00:38:42And I know you were just trying to protect me, Mum.
00:38:44I was worried about you.
00:38:45I was just trying to help.
00:38:49So I waited until the guy, Darien, had left.
00:38:54Doors unlocked, so I let myself in.
00:38:56There wasn't anything I could find.
00:38:58Until I found an old biscuit tin.
00:39:01It was full of money.
00:39:02And what did you think?
00:39:04When you opened this and saw £100,000 in cash inside?
00:39:07Well, I still think that it was money that belonged to the company.
00:39:11I mean, why else would this local fisherman have that much money in sterling in his house?
00:39:16And that's why you took it?
00:39:17Because it was money that Ashley had stolen from us.
00:39:19From Mum.
00:39:22And I don't want to see her lose everything.
00:39:27She'd already lost my dad.
00:39:29Sweet.
00:39:34All right.
00:39:35Okay.
00:39:37So, fast forward to the morning you're due to leave the island, yeah?
00:39:41And our victim turns up at 5.30.
00:39:45We've been trying to work out why he went there that morning.
00:39:48But what if he realised that you stole from him and came to confront you about it?
00:39:53No.
00:39:55On my life, I didn't even see him that morning.
00:39:58This aftershave, it's yours, right?
00:40:00Ravage Mystique.
00:40:01Yeah.
00:40:02Why?
00:40:03This is the exact same aftershave Darien was wearing.
00:40:05The morning of the murder.
00:40:08Right?
00:40:11You're not suggesting that this is evidence I shot him.
00:40:13Why would I kill someone and then spray him with my own aftershave?
00:40:17Achoo!
00:40:21Darien definitely smelt of this when we found him.
00:40:24But why?
00:40:25What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
00:40:31You know, a bit like a bin man.
00:40:34Yeah, but what?
00:40:38Neil's right.
00:40:39It's not enough.
00:40:41Some Christmas this is.
00:40:43Oh.
00:40:44Come here.
00:40:45Give your mum a hug.
00:40:46Oh, hi.
00:40:48I'm sorry.
00:40:52Oh.
00:40:53No.
00:40:54Not now, Marjorie.
00:40:56Hi.
00:40:57This is Helen Dugdale's phone.
00:40:58Please leave a message after the tone.
00:40:59I'll call you back.
00:41:01Hello, Helen.
00:41:02It's Marjorie.
00:41:03I'm burning to wish you a Merry Christmas.
00:41:06We're about to have our lunch, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you.
00:41:10I hope everything sorts itself out soon.
00:41:21Dinner is served.
00:41:27This looks wonderful.
00:41:34Here's to a Merry Christmas.
00:41:38Merry Christmas.
00:41:40Merry Christmas.
00:41:44Right, then.
00:41:46Tuck in.
00:41:49I would like to offer you an apology, Miss Dodds.
00:41:54Oh, Marjorie, please.
00:41:56There's really no need for an apology.
00:41:58Oh, there is.
00:42:00You've been nothing but gracious and welcoming for the last couple of days,
00:42:04while I, I've been nothing but, um, rousy.
00:42:10Oh, no, no, I wouldn't go that far.
00:42:14Though, I did sense you weren't very happy.
00:42:20Is it to do with your old job?
00:42:22What makes you ask that?
00:42:24I don't know. It's just, when we first met, the way you said you were retired,
00:42:30it was like you weren't entirely comfortable with it.
00:42:33My superiors back on Saint-Marie, they tried to get rid of me.
00:42:38After 50 years of doing a job I loved.
00:42:45In the end, I just walked away.
00:42:50I know what it's like. I'm just silly old Marjorie on reception.
00:42:56Don't even get invited to the Christmas party they're having out there.
00:43:00I'm sorry.
00:43:02And I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
00:43:08Look at us, moving like this on Christmas Day.
00:43:15When you cook this feast for us, we should be enjoying ourselves.
00:43:20Here, will you do me the pleasure?
00:43:24Well, if you insist.
00:43:26Oh, I won! I won!
00:43:32Oh, where's it gone? Where's it gone?
00:43:35No!
00:43:38Here it is. It's a tiny little sewing kit.
00:43:41Alright, um, let me check with the inspector.
00:43:50Okay, speak to you soon.
00:43:51Alright.
00:43:54Hey!
00:43:55Merry Christmas, guys!
00:43:57Merry Christmas, Seth!
00:43:58Hey, dear.
00:44:00Now, where are we at with the search for Ashley Sims?
00:44:03So, um, B&Bs, hotels, guest horses, nobody's heard from her.
00:44:08And no one's called in with her sighting either.
00:44:10It's like she's vanished into thin air.
00:44:11Oh, and, uh, Catherine just called.
00:44:13She said she can still squeeze us in for her Christmas Day lunch,
00:44:16but it's her last sitting, so we have to go now.
00:44:19And we're still asking ourselves,
00:44:21how was Darian shot with a bullet, fired from a gun,
00:44:24locked in a drawer in Swindon at the time that it happened?
00:44:28And what has Blitzen got to do with all of this?
00:44:32Are you coming, sir?
00:44:35Well, yeah, you guys go.
00:44:36I'll just keep working.
00:44:38Are you sure, sir?
00:44:40Wait a minute.
00:44:42What are these?
00:44:43Oh, those are the invices, sir, you know?
00:44:46Put a stuff for organized to help find Ashley Sims.
00:44:49You have, um, posters, adverts for TV and radio, and, uh...
00:44:53There's over $1,000 that we owe.
00:44:54We can't afford this.
00:44:55Well, um...
00:44:56Well, how big do you think our budget was?
00:44:57It's only because you said whatever it takes.
00:45:00Yeah, but not this much!
00:45:02I mean, what were you thinking?
00:45:04All right, let's...
00:45:05Let's calm it.
00:45:10Seb, why don't you head over to Catherine's,
00:45:11and I'll catch up with you.
00:45:18With respect,
00:45:20he's just doing his best to help.
00:45:23And he's given up his Christmas to do it, sir.
00:45:29Look, I know the case is frustrating,
00:45:31and you've got other things on your mind.
00:45:32What other things?
00:45:34Well, your brother not calling.
00:45:37What?
00:45:37That's not bothering me.
00:45:40It isn't.
00:45:41It isn't?
00:45:41No, it isn't.
00:45:42Yes, it is.
00:45:44Of course it is.
00:45:45And I really wish you'd just admit that,
00:45:48rather than pretending like you don't care
00:45:49when you so clearly care.
00:45:51Just don't take it out on the rest of us.
00:46:05What's that?
00:46:26joyeux noël camille and to little chloe her grandmother is missing her today has she
00:46:45opened a present yet no not yet ah one moment camille yes okay yes
00:46:56no moving
00:47:26so
00:47:33so
00:47:38Inspector, everything all right?
00:48:05I'm feeling bad, sir, about messing up your Christmas.
00:48:07I'm sorry you couldn't get to spend it with your daughter.
00:48:10It's not your fault.
00:48:11If anyone's to blame, it's the British transport system,
00:48:14which I am told is not uncommon.
00:48:17I mean, I'd like to say you get used to it by belying.
00:48:20Just a minute.
00:48:22Is that the sea?
00:48:26Yeah.
00:48:27Yeah.
00:48:28I'm at the shack.
00:48:29It's beautiful out here.
00:48:30It's a really clear night.
00:48:31But then all nights are like that here, aren't they?
00:48:33The moon here is a little more grey than I remember it in Saint Marie.
00:49:09This is when I put myself on the line.
00:49:12I feel like I'm just hanging around, waiting.
00:49:16Your brother?
00:49:18Yeah.
00:49:23I don't think he wants to get in touch.
00:49:26I'm sorry, it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:49:30Whether I stay or go.
00:49:31It still feels like it is.
00:49:37Inspector, if you are not sure what to do, the only advice I can offer is that you put
00:49:45your trust in that island, I did for most of my life.
00:49:53And in return, it delivered me true happiness.
00:50:02If Saint Marie won't bring your brother to you, then perhaps it will bring you someone
00:50:12or something else.
00:50:16Be patient.
00:50:18Yeah, well, you know patience isn't my forte, right?
00:50:22I know.
00:50:24But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
00:50:26Might I suggest you focus on solving that, Keith?
00:50:31Yes, you have.
00:50:34You're missed here, you know?
00:50:42Good night, Inspector.
00:51:04Good night, Inspector.
00:51:10Blitzen, why Blitzen?
00:51:20Officer Rose?
00:51:22Inspector.
00:51:24What's up?
00:51:25I wanted to come and say I'm sorry for spending all that money you don't have in your budget.
00:51:30So, I wanted to pay it back.
00:51:37There's $322.86 in there, which I took from my savings.
00:51:41I mean, it's all my savings, but that's cool.
00:51:45And if you deduct $20 from my wages each month, you should be paid back in about two years, I reckon.
00:51:52Officer Rose, you've got a good heart. Anyone ever tell you that?
00:52:01Well, my auntie, like, all the time, you know?
00:52:08Take this.
00:52:09You don't have to pay anything back.
00:52:12We'll find it in the budget.
00:52:14And there's no need to apologise, all right?
00:52:17In fact, I should apologise for blazing at you like that.
00:52:21What you did was, um, was really good work.
00:52:26Anyway, come on, I've got a new lead.
00:52:29Let's go and wake D.S. Thomas up.
00:52:37He can't keep doing this.
00:52:41Happy Boxing Day, D.S. Thomas.
00:52:44Listen, um, I want to apologise for losing it and ruining Christmas.
00:52:52I'll make it up to you.
00:52:54I promise.
00:52:58And you were right about me taking it out on you because of Solomon.
00:53:04I just really wanted it, you know?
00:53:10I'm sorry, too.
00:53:13Good morning, Sarge.
00:53:14The inspector tell you the good news yet?
00:53:18He's only going to make a big breakthrough in the case,
00:53:20which is a big relief.
00:53:22Because I was drawing a blank.
00:53:24You have tea?
00:53:27So, I've been going through Darien St. Jules's phone records,
00:53:30and he phoned someone the day before he was murdered.
00:53:33A friend of his called Trishawn King.
00:53:36Now, he was over on Montserrat for Christmas.
00:53:39So, I asked Darlene to speak with him.
00:53:41Darlene?
00:53:42Last night?
00:53:43Yeah.
00:53:43And how was she with that?
00:53:45Er, you know, she was...
00:53:47She was cool with it.
00:53:48Inspector, it's Christmas Day.
00:53:52What in God's name do you think you're doing?
00:53:58Anyway, it turned out Darien feared for his life,
00:54:01and was asking Trishawn where he can get hold of a gun for protection.
00:54:06He thought someone was going to kill him.
00:54:09Did he say who?
00:54:11But he did say he was caught up in something he shouldn't have,
00:54:14and get this, he thought the woman he was trying to help had been murdered.
00:54:18Now I'm caught up in it all.
00:54:19And now he was worried that he was going to suffer the same fate.
00:54:22Whoa, wait.
00:54:24Darien told Trishawn he thought Ashley Sims was murdered?
00:54:28But it would explain why no one's seen her the last few days.
00:54:30So then, if this is true, that means that whoever killed Ashley Sims
00:54:35probably also murdered Darien St. Jude.
00:54:37To silence him.
00:54:39So what we need to start looking for now is anyone who had a reason to kill Ashley Sims.
00:54:44But both Helen and Neil Dugdale, to start with,
00:54:47Ashley stole half a million pounds from their company.
00:54:50And there's someone else as well.
00:54:53We've been looking at your phone records and these, Miss Hickson,
00:55:03are text messages from you to Ashley Sims just before she came out here.
00:55:07You'll regret ever meeting me.
00:55:09Stay away from my boyfriend or else I'm not afraid to hurt you.
00:55:15The list goes on.
00:55:17Care to explain?
00:55:20They had a thing, right?
00:55:21Gavin and Ashley had a thing behind my back.
00:55:25Or sort of.
00:55:27Sort of?
00:55:30Yeah, like, it wasn't like a real thing.
00:55:31Like, they never really got together.
00:55:33But he liked her.
00:55:36Yeah.
00:55:38God knows why.
00:55:39She was weird.
00:55:40But I think Gav liked that about her.
00:55:43And he called things off between us.
00:55:48And that's when I started warning her off.
00:55:49Guess I just got a bit carried away.
00:55:52I just...
00:55:55I just didn't want to lose him.
00:55:57And you didn't.
00:55:58Now that Ashley's conveniently disappeared,
00:56:01you've got Gavin to yourself now, haven't you?
00:56:03What?
00:56:05Is that what you think?
00:56:06That I killed her?
00:56:10No, I wouldn't.
00:56:12I didn't.
00:56:13It'll be about Gavin.
00:56:16We need to tell him what we know.
00:56:18But Ashley called things off with Gav.
00:56:21Why would I kill her?
00:56:22Inspector.
00:56:24You need to hear the truth.
00:56:26What?
00:56:27And I'm afraid you're not going to get that from her.
00:56:29No disrespect, Karen.
00:56:30Yo, come on, man.
00:56:32What are you saying?
00:56:33Whatever she's told you,
00:56:35it's ten times worse.
00:56:36Neil, what are you saying?
00:56:37Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:56:38You've had your chance.
00:56:39Go on.
00:56:41He had a thing for Ashley.
00:56:43Is that it?
00:56:44We already know.
00:56:45No, it was more than that.
00:56:46Gavin was obsessed.
00:56:49When Ashley said they couldn't see each other anymore,
00:56:50he had to take time off work.
00:56:52And I've seen the posters you've been putting up.
00:56:53If Ashley's gone missing,
00:56:54then I'm telling you,
00:56:56it'll have something to do with Gavin.
00:56:58Inspector.
00:57:04Someone's just broken into the villa where Darien was shut.
00:57:10Good.
00:57:36Hi.
00:57:37Mr. Bradbury, this doesn't look good at all.
00:57:55But then I don't think you need me to tell you that.
00:58:01You want to start by telling us what we're going to find in that pool you've just emptied,
00:58:04and we know it's not the gun used to kill Darien St. Jules,
00:58:08because that's currently sitting in a police station somewhere in Swindon.
00:58:11So what's down there?
00:58:12Why have you come back to the crime scene, Gavin? What's so important?
00:58:15Inspector! Found something.
00:58:18What is it?
00:58:20A bullet. One that's been fired.
00:58:27Why is there a bullet in the pool, Gav?
00:58:30It's like...
00:58:32keepsake.
00:58:34Something to remember Ashley by.
00:58:40A bullet?
00:58:42There are other things that I've got of hers as well, like...
00:58:46more like normal things.
00:58:49I'm really not interested in those, funny enough.
00:58:52Ashley, she's...
00:58:53she's not like anyone I've ever met before.
00:58:56Like, it was exciting being around her,
00:58:58and her life was so different to mine.
00:59:01Yeah, I hear that. The bullet.
00:59:04Yeah.
00:59:06She has a gun.
00:59:08She was looking after it as a favour for someone that she knew from prison,
00:59:12and she...
00:59:12well, we went out to the woods one day, and she let me fire it.
00:59:18It was amazing, right?
00:59:20It was a...
00:59:20You know, like exhilarating.
00:59:23And I went and got one of the bullets.
00:59:24You know, like I said, that I would keep it with me to remind me of her.
00:59:27And they say romance is dead.
00:59:31So, why did it end up in the pool?
00:59:34I panicked.
00:59:35When there was that dead guy, and Neil called the police,
00:59:40I was worried that if you found it, you'd think it was me that shot him.
00:59:43So I took it out, and I was wondering what to do, and...
00:59:46I dropped it.
00:59:50It fell in the pool.
00:59:52And the more you were sniffing around,
00:59:54the more I started to worry that you'd find it.
00:59:55So I came back, and I...
00:59:56So you loved Ashley, then?
01:00:03Yeah, I guess, yeah.
01:00:06Must have really hurt when she ended things.
01:00:10Kevin, we believe Ashley Sims was murdered on this island in the last few days.
01:00:14What? No. What? If she can't be...
01:00:18I'm kind of wondering if maybe you did it.
01:00:20Me?
01:00:23Why would I kill Ashley?
01:00:24Because you couldn't have her.
01:00:26And it hurt like hell.
01:00:27No, no, no, no. You've got this wrong.
01:00:28I didn't kill her.
01:00:30Like all that man.
01:00:32You seem a bit edgy, Kevin.
01:00:35Is there something you weren't telling us?
01:00:37There's nothing.
01:00:40Really, there is nothing.
01:00:44Paradise Corp Hotel, please.
01:00:56What is it that he's not saying?
01:00:57Hey, this is Ashley's phone. You know what to do.
01:01:07Ashley, it's me.
01:01:08We need to talk. I'm worried about you.
01:01:11The police have been asking questions, and I think they know about us, so...
01:01:15Just let me know what you want me to do, yeah?
01:01:18Please call me back.
01:01:20I love you.
01:01:21You all right, sir?
01:01:35You seem I've been...
01:01:36Pensed.
01:01:37I just can't work this one out.
01:01:40I mean, we've got one potential murder victim whose body we haven't found.
01:01:43Another murder victim whose body we have found, but that murder weapon was locked in a death's drawer on the other side of the world when that murder took place.
01:01:52I mean, where do we even start?
01:01:53Well, sounds like you need to go get a little shoulder rub, you know? Release some of that tension.
01:01:59No, you all right, Officer Rose.
01:02:04This guy again.
01:02:05Listen, mate, I told you before, I'm not interested in upgrading to another phone, so stop calling me, eh?
01:02:12Is that Mervyn Wilson?
01:02:14Yeah, it's still Mervyn Wilson, and I'm still not interested.
01:02:17It's me, Solomon.
01:02:19Your brother.
01:02:26Are you there, Mervyn?
01:02:30Mervyn?
01:02:31Yes.
01:02:34Yes, he's here.
01:02:35Don't hang up.
01:02:48Solomon.
01:02:50It's Mervyn.
01:02:52Yeah, it's always, you know that.
01:02:55Look, mate, I'm sorry.
01:02:57I just wasn't expecting your call.
01:02:59Yeah, I know.
01:03:00I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but it was, you know.
01:03:06No, no, no, mate, I totally understand, yeah?
01:03:09I mean, it's a process, right?
01:03:12But, hey, you're calling now, aren't you?
01:03:15Yeah, man, it's a process.
01:03:17But I'm glad to be calling now.
01:03:23Are you still there?
01:03:26Mervyn?
01:03:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
01:03:32Look, Solomon, I'm really, really sorry to do this to you, and I am so glad you called
01:03:39and that we're finally speaking.
01:03:40And I really, really want us to talk again, but right now, there's something I need to do, yeah?
01:03:49Yeah, man, no problem, but I'll tell you.
01:03:53That was quick.
01:03:55Officer Rose, that billboard, you did that, right?
01:03:58Yes, sir, I did.
01:04:00But you should already have the invites for that.
01:04:02It's not going to cost any extra.
01:04:04No, no, no, I don't care about the cost.
01:04:05It was worth every penny.
01:04:06Come, come, look.
01:04:07You see, all along, we've been looking at Ashley's footage on phone screens and laptops, yeah?
01:04:19Well, they were too small.
01:04:22I don't understand.
01:04:24You see where Ashley is?
01:04:25This is a still from the video she made.
01:04:28And in the background, there's a ship passing by.
01:04:31Now, before, that was just a speck.
01:04:33But now you've blown it up.
01:04:35Look at it.
01:04:35What about the ship?
01:04:38Look at what it's called.
01:04:42Blitzen.
01:04:43Blitzen.
01:04:45Yeah?
01:04:46Now we know.
01:04:48Oh, Officer Rose, if you were so tall, I'd kiss you.
01:04:52Why would Darian write the name of that ship on his hands?
01:04:55Well, he obviously saw the footage himself, and then, um, he saw something in it.
01:05:01But what?
01:05:05It's like she's vanished into thin air.
01:05:10Why I've come here.
01:05:11I thought I was helping someone.
01:05:14You know what?
01:05:15I think I'm starting to work out what went down here.
01:05:19But I need to make a phone call.
01:05:22And you need to get on to airport security.
01:05:24Come on.
01:05:24All right, mate.
01:05:28Much appreciated.
01:05:29Cheers.
01:05:31Wow.
01:05:33What's wow?
01:05:36So, that ship behind Ashley Sims, it's owned by a Scandinavian container shipping company.
01:05:42Now, we know from the information on that footage, Ashley recorded it on the 4th of October, right?
01:05:47Right.
01:05:48Well, check this.
01:05:50The Blitzen was passing by the south coast of England on the 4th of October.
01:05:54Thousands of miles from the Caribbean.
01:05:56So, Ashley recorded that video on a beach back in the UK?
01:06:00Which means she was never even here.
01:06:03Inspector, the airport just emailed over security camera footage the day Ashley Sims arrived on the island.
01:06:11Wait, she was here?
01:06:13Thank you for a wonderful Christmas, Marjorie.
01:06:17Oh, it's been lovely.
01:06:18Let me give you a hand with that.
01:06:20Oh, don't be daft.
01:06:21You don't know where anything goes.
01:06:23Then you can tell me.
01:06:24It's the least I can do.
01:06:27Living room.
01:06:28Sideboard drawer.
01:06:29Living room.
01:06:30Sideboard drawer.
01:06:33Sideboard drawer.
01:06:34But if Ashley Sims has never been here before, why do immigration records show that she has?
01:06:40Because someone else came pretending to be Ashley.
01:06:43Presumably on a fake passport.
01:06:45And that's someone paid Darian 100k to lie and say Ashley rented his property for the past few months.
01:06:50But why would they do that?
01:06:52To misdirect and confuse anyone looking for her.
01:06:55Because they'd already killed Ashley and taken the money.
01:06:58So one of our four suspects has been here three months previously?
01:07:01Which is why we're going through this footage, because it will show who was pretending to be Ashley Sims.
01:07:08There.
01:07:09Why didn't I see that before?
01:07:10Why I've come here to try and understand why I hurt people.
01:07:15No, it was more than that.
01:07:16Gavin was obsessed.
01:07:18Of course.
01:07:19After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
01:07:22So it's got to be one of these four who shot Darian St. Jules.
01:07:24You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
01:07:29You didn't hear the gunshot?
01:07:30It's like Helen said, you know, the room out here, it's stronger than you used to.
01:07:33What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
01:07:37It makes perfect sense now.
01:07:40For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
01:07:41The commissioner found the gun locked in the desk drawer at Dugdale's offices back in the UK.
01:07:46We need to call the commissioner.
01:07:48The commissioner?
01:07:49Why?
01:07:50Because he's with the killer as we speak.
01:07:52Come on, sir.
01:08:05Pick up.
01:08:10And what about these ones?
01:08:12Same drawer.
01:08:13I've always wanted to go to the caribbean.
01:08:39I said the same drawer.
01:08:43That necklace, the stone is lithma, unique to St. Marie.
01:08:55You told me you always wanted to go to the caribbean like you've never been.
01:09:03You were lying.
01:09:06No, no, Selwyn.
01:09:08It was you that went to St. Marie three months ago.
01:09:11Well, if Ashley never went then, is she dead?
01:09:17Oh, I'm sorry.
01:09:19I didn't mean to.
01:09:21It just happened.
01:09:24Miss Dulles.
01:09:25I think you should put the knife down, no.
01:09:37Please.
01:09:38That video she made, it wasn't in the caribbean, was it?
01:09:51Bournemouth.
01:09:53Bournemouth.
01:09:55On a Sunday, she'd, she'd gone to the seaside.
01:09:58She realised she'd made a mistake stealing that money, didn't she?
01:10:04Then she wanted to give the money back and send the video as an apology.
01:10:09I want to say sorry.
01:10:11I don't know why I keep doing this.
01:10:13Miss Simms didn't leave the country.
01:10:15I'd gone in to the office that day to deal with an order that had gone wrong.
01:10:23It wasn't my fault.
01:10:25But I was the one who had to go in and fix it.
01:10:28And then when I let myself in, I found Ashley there and I knew, I knew straight away what the money was.
01:10:36You overhear a lot when you sit at reception all day.
01:10:40I knew it was you.
01:10:42And I went to call the police.
01:10:44Wait, I'm giving the money back, Marjorie.
01:10:47Don't.
01:10:48Please.
01:10:50I'm calling the police now.
01:10:52Don't do this to me.
01:10:53You're not.
01:10:54And Ashley tried to stop me.
01:10:56I won't let you, Marjorie.
01:10:58Get off me.
01:10:59Pushed her off me and...
01:11:01And I wasn't even supposed to be in that day.
01:11:19Miss, like I told you, nobody, nobody cares for me there.
01:11:24They just take me for granted and...
01:11:27You sold the money and thought...
01:11:30Finally, you could take something back for yourself.
01:11:36All you had to do was dispose of the body.
01:11:43Where?
01:11:50In my back garden.
01:11:51And then you made a fake passport in Ashley's name.
01:12:00Oh, that wasn't hard, you know, with all the kit we've got in the office.
01:12:04You flew on that passport to St. Marie to make it look as if Miss Sims had run away to the other side of the world and rented her property there for the last few months.
01:12:17You know, I really did want to go to the Caribbean.
01:12:23It's just that I never had the chance or the money until...
01:12:28And if you were going to misdirect from what really happened here in Swindon, where the dead body was,
01:12:36Then, the farther away, the better, and no-one would realise.
01:12:42Until things started to go wrong, and you received a phone call.
01:12:53You're saying Marjorie killed Ashley Sims?
01:13:04Our receptionist, that Marjorie?
01:13:06That Marjorie.
01:13:07Yes, Marjorie Dodds, the receptionist, killed Ashley Sims in England and made it look as if she ran away to the Caribbean.
01:13:14With your 500k.
01:13:16Oh, my. I did not see that coming.
01:13:18So, which one of us shot the man found in our swimming pool?
01:13:21It wasn't any of you.
01:13:24But it had to be. You said so.
01:13:26No-one else was here.
01:13:27Yeah, you're right. I did say that.
01:13:29But what I didn't know then was that Darian St. Jules wasn't shot at your villa.
01:13:35It just looked like he was.
01:13:37That's why no gunshot was heard, because there wasn't one.
01:13:41He'd already been shot.
01:13:42We know now from our colleague in the UK that Marjorie had paid Darian money.
01:13:52She came to the island three months ago on a forged passport, and she gave him £100,000 to lie and cover if anyone ever came to the island asking after Ashley.
01:14:02She'd convinced him he was doing a favour for a very vulnerable friend of hers.
01:14:08But when you visited him a few days ago, Mrs. Dogdale, asking questions, mentioning the missing £500,000, Darian started to wonder what he'd gotten himself involved in.
01:14:17And when he re-watched that footage more closely, the footage of Ashley you'd shown him, as an experienced fisherman, who knew the waters of St. Marie very well, something about it bothered him.
01:14:29Zooming in, he was able to read the name of the boat Blitzen.
01:14:33He knew this was not a St. Marie vessel.
01:14:34He worked out that the video of Ashley was actually shot in the UK.
01:14:43And having heard from you, Mrs. Dogdale, that Ashley went missing with £500,000 of your money, Darian started to realise that Ashley had never been to the island.
01:14:52He'd only ever met Marjorie.
01:14:54So, he phoned Miss Dodds, asking what was going on.
01:15:03We need to talk.
01:15:04But listen, Darian, you've got this all wrong.
01:15:09All throughout this case, we thought Darian's killer had to be one of you four.
01:15:14The one person we never suspected was Marjorie Dodds.
01:15:18It was all the way back in Swindon.
01:15:20Or so we thought.
01:15:21With Darian threatening to go to the police, Marjorie asked him to hang fire.
01:15:26And she would fly out here and speak to him in person.
01:15:30Marjorie was here?
01:15:31On this island?
01:15:31At the exact same time we were?
01:15:33Yeah.
01:15:33She arrived the night before Darian was shot and flew back to the UK the next morning.
01:15:37Unable to convince Darian to keep quiet and carry on with the lie, Marjorie started to grow desperate.
01:15:45Worried he'd tell the police.
01:15:47I can give you more money.
01:15:48How much?
01:15:49Just tell me and I'll give it to you.
01:15:50We know Darian was searching around for a gun for self-protection.
01:15:56I just want you to leave.
01:15:58Now!
01:16:00He never expected Marjorie would use it against him.
01:16:04After shooting Darian, Marjorie left and headed for the airport before getting back on the plane, arriving at Dugdale's offices just in time to meet with our very own Commissioner Patterson.
01:16:25So, if Marjorie shot Darian at his house, how did he end up at our villa?
01:16:31Marjorie thought she'd killed him.
01:16:33But what she didn't know when she left Darian's place was that he was still alive.
01:16:37It was the fact that he smelled so strongly of someone else's aftershave, they helped us work it out.
01:16:46Neil's aftershave, in fact.
01:16:48We thought it was there to cover up another smell that we now know was antiseptic.
01:16:55The stuff used to clean up a wound.
01:16:57Because as soon as Marjorie quit the scene, Darian regained consciousness and patched himself up.
01:17:02As far as he was concerned, the bullet was just lodged in his shoulder.
01:17:06Wasn't life-threatening.
01:17:07So he put on a fresh t-shirt and headed off to the hospital to get it properly seen to.
01:17:13But on the way, it passed your villa, which was just half a mile down the road.
01:17:18And I think Darian intended to alert you to what had gone down.
01:17:22He stopped here to tell you the truth about Ashley and to warn you about what Marjorie had done.
01:17:28That's why he came here that morning.
01:17:30To tell you what your colleague had done to Ashley and in turn to him.
01:17:34To make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
01:17:37But what Darian didn't know was that his wound was worse than he thought.
01:17:42And he was bleeding internally.
01:17:45And so despite his brave effort to alert you all to the truth, he died.
01:17:50Here in your villa.
01:17:51But then someone proceeded to stage the scene as if he was shot in this villa.
01:18:01Didn't you, Mr Bradbury?
01:18:05Me?
01:18:05What?
01:18:06We talked...
01:18:07No, of course not.
01:18:08No.
01:18:09And you did it because Ashley told you to.
01:18:11You're crazy.
01:18:13Ashley, I don't know what you're talking about.
01:18:17Let me have your phone.
01:18:22Gavin, please.
01:18:26It's okay.
01:18:28Unlock it.
01:18:29Bingo.
01:18:44Text messages seemingly from Ashley Sims from the moment she disappeared right up to today.
01:18:50But all of these were sent by Marjorie Dodds.
01:18:55Who kept Ashley's phone after she killed her.
01:18:58No, you know, you're wrong.
01:18:59You can't be texting her.
01:19:01No.
01:19:01This whole time.
01:19:02Karen, I'm sorry.
01:19:03Look, look.
01:19:03No, no.
01:19:04Karen!
01:19:06And here.
01:19:08Proof of what happened.
01:19:09Messages exchanged on the morning of Darian's death.
01:19:12Because despite what you told us, Gavin, you were actually the first to discover Darian's body.
01:19:19You knew who Darian was because Ashley had told you all about him.
01:19:23And so you contacted Ashley, left a message telling her that Darian had turned up to the villa and died and asking her what was going on.
01:19:32A few minutes later, she, or rather, Marjorie, texted back.
01:19:37See, Marjorie realized that if the police were called and found Darian with his wound patched up, they'd know he was shot somewhere else.
01:19:47And the trail would lead right back to her.
01:19:50So, she had to do two things.
01:19:53First, she texted you with instructions.
01:19:55Second, she had to clear up the real scene of the crime.
01:19:58Marjorie's confessed to her colleague in the UK that she quickly doubled back from the airport and returned to Darian's house before disposing of the gun and the T-shirt he was wearing when she shot him.
01:20:07Meanwhile, you moved the body outside to the swimming pool.
01:20:10There's also a mention here of that bullet you kept as a memento in the text messages you sent to Ashley.
01:20:15Well, that's how Marjorie knew.
01:20:17So, as Ashley, she asked you to remove the bullet she killed Darian with and replace it with the one she knew you had.
01:20:27However, in your haste, you must have dropped the bullet you extracted into the swimming pool.
01:20:33But you knew you could come back and retrieve it later.
01:20:38Once you switched the bullets, the hard bit was over.
01:20:41You disposed of the dressing.
01:20:45Then made a hole in his T-shirt and let the blood around the wound soak in.
01:20:50So, now, it looks like Darian had been shot after he entered the villa, not before.
01:20:56The last problem you had was getting rid of that antiseptic smell.
01:21:00Because that stuff lingers, right?
01:21:02And if the police noticed it, we'd certainly be asking who cleaned up the wound and why.
01:21:07So, you ran into the bathroom and got hold of some aftershave, nails, and doused him in it.
01:21:11So, now, all you had to do was pretend to be asleep when Mrs. Dogdale discovered the body.
01:21:18Gavin, we need to get to the airport. You've got to pack.
01:21:22Leaving us without a scooby, as to how a man was shot with a gun that was locked in a desk drawer 5,000 miles away in a Swindon warehouse.
01:21:30In the end, it wasn't just the police that Marjorie Dodds had duped.
01:21:34It was you as well, Gavin.
01:21:35You see, you thought you were helping the woman you loved.
01:21:39A woman you'd do anything for when you were actually helping her killer.
01:21:51Officer Rose.
01:22:01Sir Bradbury, I'm arresting on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
01:22:05You don't need to say anything.
01:22:06But it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question, something you later rely on in court.
01:22:11Anything you do say may be used as evidence.
01:22:13I need to know, why did you come to the train station that night and invite me into your home?
01:22:21Why take that risk?
01:22:24Because I didn't want to spend Christmas on my own again.
01:22:27I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:22:48Inspector?
01:22:50Commissioner?
01:22:50The arrest has been made.
01:22:53I'm pleased to see.
01:22:54Same here.
01:22:55We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:22:58Oh, and are you doing all right?
01:23:00Me?
01:23:01Yes, of course.
01:23:03I'm fine.
01:23:04Merry Christmas, sir.
01:23:11I'm doing fine.
01:23:12We regret to announce that the 10-15 to Leeds will be delayed due to a shortage of train staff.
01:23:23Chief Commissioner, it's Selwyn Patterson.
01:23:35And to you, and apologies for calling you during the holidays.
01:23:41But I wanted to know if you'd found my replacement as yet.
01:23:48I see.
01:23:53I've been doing some thinking.
01:23:55And I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the road.
01:24:04If it's still vacant.
01:24:06The thing is, Harry, the classic Christmas Day Sunday roast lunch is all well and good.
01:24:25But when push comes to shove, the real culinary high point is the turkey and stuffing sarni.
01:24:32Because my friend, in my humble opinion, it is one of the greatest delicacies known to mankind.
01:24:42Like bacon and eggs?
01:24:44Oh, DS Thomas, you're just in time.
01:24:46Come in, come in.
01:24:49Grab those for me, would you?
01:24:50So, uh, what is this about, sir?
01:24:58I promised I'd make up for spoiling Christmas Day.
01:25:01And that is exactly what I'm doing.
01:25:03Come on.
01:25:08I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
01:25:10My front room on the beach.
01:25:12Is that a good idea, do you think?
01:25:14Yeah, why not?
01:25:16So we're watching something.
01:25:17We certainly are, DS Thomas.
01:25:19And not the...
01:25:20The great escape.
01:25:21Yeah.
01:25:25Beers and butties, everyone.
01:25:27And thank you to our local mayor for letting me have the leftovers from the bar.
01:25:32And you've put it all between two slices of bread.
01:25:36Yeah.
01:25:37How English.
01:25:39Excited for this film, Inspector.
01:25:41Sounds dope.
01:25:43Um, sir.
01:25:45Is this really your favourite thing about Christmas?
01:25:51Well, yeah.
01:25:53When I was a little boy growing up, most times I didn't know where I was going to end up spending Christmas, right?
01:26:00With a foster family or in a care home.
01:26:04But wherever I ended up, the one constant every Christmas was this film.
01:26:12And it was a comfort to me.
01:26:15I bet that little boy never thought he'd be here in the Caribbean.
01:26:20All these years later, watching that same film, surrounded by his friends.
01:26:32He certainly didn't care for him.
01:26:36So, um, to him.
01:26:41To him.
01:26:42Okay, then.
01:26:46Showtime.
01:26:46Yeah.
01:26:56Um, look, uh, just give me a few minutes, yeah?
01:27:01Yeah?
01:27:08Solomon, how you doing, man?
01:27:09You got my message, yeah?
01:27:13Um, look.
01:27:16I'm sorry I had to cut you off like that before, yeah?
01:27:19It was just an emergency at work I had to deal with.
01:27:22So, how's your Christmas been?
01:27:26Yeah?
01:27:27Good.
01:27:30Mine, um...
01:27:33Yeah, yeah, it's been really good.
01:27:35Look, um, I don't know how you feel about this, but I was wondering if you wanted to meet up sometime.
01:27:49Yeah?
01:27:53Yeah, I definitely would like to.
