00:00The holidays are upon us, and that means lots of holiday gatherings among family and friends.
00:05So what can you do to make yourself a gracious guest in their home?
00:08HuffPost says that rule number one may be to not try too hard.
00:12Offer to help, but don't be so insistent that you end up underfoot.
00:15HuffPost quotes event planner Awana Borkomen as saying
00:18a true host wants their guests to enjoy themselves and not be working,
00:21so the insistence might make your host uncomfortable.
00:24Nonetheless, there are some specific things you can do to make yourself useful.
00:27For example, if you're visiting for a big meal, Rose Morolori of The New York Times
00:31recommends bringing your own containers for leftovers.
00:34Don't demand food to take home, of course,
00:36but lots of hosts will be happy to clear some space in their fridge.
00:39And Annalisa Barbieri of The Guardian says that hosts make the best guests.
00:43So consider getting perspective from the other side of the serving tray
00:46by hosting a get-together of your own.
