00:00Hane House is here, cottage number one and cottage number two.
00:04My daughter, Ella, the cottage is her little design project.
00:08This is what we ordered and their new tile is lighter green.
00:12Oh no.
00:13I was afraid to show you, but I knew I had.
00:14I have to see it.
00:15Steve's going to be our connection point to get this project finished.
00:18I wanted to point out we had a visitor.
00:21Oh my gosh, it's a bear.
00:23Any major hiccup, what are you thinking?
00:26The fireplace has me up at night because it's in zoning.
00:28Oh, that's not what it's supposed to look like.
00:31The biggest variable is the fireplace.
00:33Other than that, I feel like it's smooth sailing from here, but I shouldn't have said that out loud.
00:37Sounds like I get to keep both my fireplaces.
00:40You're going to jinx yourself?
00:41I don't want to jinx myself.
00:42Let's go.
00:44Oh, I love me somehow.
00:51What makes the Mountain House so unique and perfect for our family is that it's got three distinct structures.
00:56And it finally feels like we're getting close on all of them.
01:00It's got the main house, which now has all of this beautiful wood that's blending perfectly.
01:05And then there's the large cottage, which is looking great with the new plaster that we added.
01:09And then the tiny cottage.
01:12This is the cottage that really spoke to Ella.
01:14So she's designed it.
01:16The paint, the wallpaper, all of that is done.
01:19Now it's just the little things that are going to really make it feel special.
01:24And today we're hoping to find some treasures at one of our favorite stores in Waco.
01:28I love you see art, trays for your coffee table, a holder for your soap.
01:32You know, just like anything.
01:35I don't really use bar soap, but...
01:37Oh.
01:39Well, you should.
01:40You can use this plate.
01:43It's like the ruffle, but do you think that it's too much ruffle?
01:46No.
01:46And we should change it down?
01:47As I'm saying both.
01:48Oh.
01:49So you have a pairing, you know?
01:50Mm-hmm.
01:51We found a lot of these really cool little treasures that are going to be perfect in Ella's space.
02:01Since Ella's starting college in a month, today is a really important day to just nail down all of the final details to this little cottage.
02:09So we taped out the exact measurements.
02:11I wanted Ella to be able to see how the selections that she chose for the space work in it.
02:16So we have a plan to work off of.
02:19What made you go green and blue?
02:21That's so fun and unexpected, and I love that.
02:23I wanted it to feel, like, cozy and a little bit darker.
02:26Yeah.
02:26But then the kitchen to feel more, like, light.
02:28Yeah.
02:28So that's why we went with the cream, but then the green cabinets to tie it all together.
02:34You did a really good job.
02:36Ella has always been, from early on, very interested in design, but also just has that natural instinct.
02:42And now that we've got all the dimensions, this is a lot smaller than I remember.
02:50Here's your settee.
02:52Thoughts on lamp and rug?
02:54I like the lamp.
02:55Okay.
02:56I like the little ruffly things.
02:58Okay.
02:58But it might be a little bit tall.
03:00That's what I'm nervous about.
03:01I do wonder if we get a plan B for the lamp.
03:03Mm-hmm.
03:03Trying to find one that's more the scale of the settee.
03:06How do you like the settee?
03:08I like it.
03:08I think it looks good.
03:09And then with your fireplace here, the little nook that you created here, this may be a little big.
03:15Let's see what this looks like.
03:17I just love the legs.
03:21I think that's cute.
03:22She has found a way to make the space feel so dreamy and cozy.
03:27When it's a small space, you always hear people say, paint it light to make it bigger.
03:31Well, you chose to go dark.
03:33You kind of bucked the rules and said, but this is what I want.
03:38It's fun to see her come into her own style.
03:41On your first design project, you really stepped out to kind of just teach me something,
03:48which is like, don't be afraid in a tiny space to go big.
03:52Yes.
03:52And I love it because I feel like it's you.
03:56It's the cutest little space.
03:59And crew is going to love it.
04:00Mm-hmm.
04:00It's been about three weeks since our last trip to Colorado, and we've made a ton of progress.
04:17Most of the drywall is up.
04:18We started installing the oak paneling on the ceilings and the walls throughout the house.
04:26We added the trim in that primary bedroom, and the parquet floors went into the reading room.
04:33We're still waiting on those permits for the fireplaces, but we're really moving forward.
04:38It's just a fun day to be here and to see all of this activity.
04:42We got a lot going on, so get ready to enter the beehive.
04:46Oh, man.
04:47Oh, hi, guys.
04:48Hey, Steve.
04:49Steve.
04:49You made it home.
04:50Yes, sir.
04:51Home sweet home.
04:52How you doing?
04:53Good, good.
04:53This is good.
04:53Beautiful.
04:54Didn't it turn out sweet?
04:56Yeah.
04:56Look at this wood.
04:56Turned out great, man.
04:57I knew I wanted to do, like, a special treatment in that foyer where it's kind of like, hey,
05:02you got a small space.
05:03I wanted to make it feel a little extra special, a little more intentional, so we did this,
05:07like, stair step install with the wood.
05:10I can't believe it.
05:11I love it.
05:12Yeah.
05:12This feels special.
05:14How hard to do this downstairs.
05:16Like, I know we didn't plan for it, but anywhere where I'm doing this wood, this is going
05:21to feel dramatic.
05:22Because even looking up, but knowing the walls will be like that, there's almost no dimension.
05:26Do you want to see the old tongue and groove?
05:28Show what you're wanting to show us in here.
05:30So this is the tongue and groove that we were originally going to go with.
05:33Compare this to the stair step or the step entryway.
05:36I just feel like if you could add that little piece, it would just make it richer.
05:41So my question to Steve was, do we have enough material to accomplish this downstairs and
05:45in the main living and kitchen area?
05:47You just say you can or you can't, and I'll just get over it.
05:49I can do it.
05:50How's that?
05:50Because the tongue and groove we can use as this.
05:53So we're not losing material and we're not going to have to buy new material.
05:57Awesome.
05:58Steve is like, so nice.
06:00Love this guy.
06:01He's like, not only do I have enough material.
06:03Contractors are built to say no.
06:05You have to force a contractor to get to the yes.
06:09We'll get more bang for our buck doing it like this.
06:11At the very beginning, I didn't know to say no.
06:14So when she asked for something, I said yes.
06:17And I was romantically involved with this woman.
06:19So in some ways, I was trying to impress her every step of the way.
06:23But it was like, Steve is just kind of like that.
06:25He's like, let's do it.
06:26I do want to see the reading nook.
06:30Well, that's dramatic.
06:32Ooh, Steve.
06:33This is that floor that you sent me.
06:36Yes.
06:37It's so beautiful.
06:38Wanted to get our eyes on the flooring in the little reading nook.
06:41It's this beautiful reclaimed parquet flooring.
06:44I really wanted to add texture and more story next to all the simpler paneling.
06:48Love this place.
06:49It's like, man, these old floors really look like you've stepped back in time.
06:52It does, yeah.
06:53Yeah.
06:53Well, let's go look at the primary.
06:55Yes, sir.
06:56So we're just about done with your primary.
06:58Oh, my gosh.
07:00Gorgeous.
07:01The trim in the primary, it felt like this beautiful reveal.
07:05I hadn't seen it fully installed.
07:07The goal was you see a little feminine, you see a little masculine detail.
07:11You've got the beams that are masculine.
07:13You have the wood that feels more textured.
07:14But then you have the little arch detail that makes it feel a little more cottage feminine.
07:18It's almost all masculine.
07:19You haven't seen it done.
07:21All you're looking at are the big shiny things.
07:23But are you saying, are you going to screw it up from here out?
07:25Is that what you're trying to imply here?
07:25It's going to be a little balance of me and a little balance of the ginger right here.
07:29Joe, remember last time we were here, that artist was sitting there hand painting these
07:33beams.
07:34It was like unbelievable.
07:35He was so meticulous, giving it the illusion of cracks.
07:38This really was the least expensive option.
07:41Yeah.
07:42It just looks super sharp.
07:43And the space, super tiny.
07:46And we already knew it was going to be tiny.
07:47But it's going to work.
07:48This wide-case opening gives you that illusion that it feels bigger.
07:51A hundred percent.
07:53It's awesome.
07:54So we have three samples on the deck for you guys to look at.
07:58And plus we have your window box up.
07:59Yep.
08:00The window box looks really good.
08:01This is obviously going to patina over time.
08:04But I think this color.
08:05Yeah, I'd go the darker route.
08:07Yeah.
08:07So there's your answer.
08:09Sign.
08:09Easy.
08:10Okay.
08:10Darker than lighter.
08:11Bear fence.
08:12Bear fence.
08:13The artist, you're going to do all the steel work.
08:15He's going to design us a gate with metal, kind of going with the stair rail and like
08:19a normal man gate.
08:21If you think something's simple and minimal.
08:24Those null posts at the end, we're going to go at 42 inches.
08:27We'll keep the bear out.
08:29Hey, Steve, what do you think about us building a fire pit down here by the river?
08:33It'd be fun to incorporate some little quirky patio sitting area.
08:37Oh, okay.
08:38I hope the bear gate works.
08:40And with this new fire pit, we have a lot to accomplish in the next six weeks.
08:44But it feels like everything's coming together and we have a few more days here to finalize
08:48details for the rest of the house.
08:58Oh, good.
08:58I really wanted to see these cabinets.
09:00I know.
09:01They've gotten a lot done.
09:02They're so pretty.
09:03I love the vent hood.
09:05I love the scale.
09:07Today's the walkthrough of the kitchen.
09:09The more I started thinking about what this home would become, it was really around the
09:13kitchen.
09:13You know, 15 to 20 people could be here at one time.
09:16And so the existing kitchen was not conducive to what I knew we were wanting to create.
09:21The cabinets are halfway installed and they look very lodgy.
09:24Like, I like the way that that's coming together.
09:26It's just finalizing the floor stain.
09:28Okay.
09:29That feels too orange.
09:31Wondering if they can come in with a bleach.
09:33So it just feels a little more natural.
09:34Okay.
09:35Because it's making that look green.
09:38It is.
09:39The backsplash is about to get installed because we finally received those hand-painted tiles.
09:44This is the new batch of tile.
09:45They did try to eliminate some of the variation and darken and friction the color.
09:50So I think it turned out good.
09:52Okay.
09:52The tile has been one of those things where the color variation has been a bit of an issue.
09:57But I saw the tile today.
09:58It's beautiful.
09:59It's a lighter green, but it's still going to be pretty.
10:01I mean, I feel like it's going to still play off of what's happening on the outside of the windows.
10:04This was meant to be the kitchen all along.
10:06Oh, yeah.
10:06That's crazy.
10:07Moving that kitchen from where it was into this living room feels natural.
10:11I cannot wait to get to cooking in there and having that huge table right down the middle.
10:16Looks so nice with the windows.
10:19It's looking awesome.
10:21I know that when we leave, it's in good hands.
10:24When we get back to Texas, the biggest thing on my list is furniture.
10:27I really want to find the perfect dining table for the kitchen.
10:35We're back in Texas, and I'm on the hunt for some big furniture pieces for the main house and Round Top.
10:40I love this little detail.
10:43I love finding older pieces with tons of character and giving them new lights.
10:47Mixing new stuff with antique accents creates great design moments for almost any project.
10:54Good news.
10:55We found a dining table.
10:57I think out of everything we were looking for, the table was the thing we thought we were going to have to custom build.
11:04It's going to be right down the center of the kitchen.
11:07It's like over 40 inches wide, which is perfect.
11:10So I think this will seat about 12, and we love it.
11:15It's been a long day.
11:16I have no other words to say, except it's been very successful.
11:19So it's almost time for Ella to head off to college.
11:27We finished the styling plan for her cottage, but there's one last finishing touch I want to work on right before she leaves.
11:34I love this little shelf, Ella.
11:36The scallop, I think, is really sweet, and I also know you love mugs and cups.
11:39So we needed a place to put those on the walls.
11:43Today, Ella and I are doing a little makeover on a piece that will go in the kitchen pantry in our cottage.
11:49We found this cute little vintage scallop shelf, but she didn't love the color or the finish, and so today we're painting it.
11:55This is where I want you to decide, do you want to paint it green, the color of your cabinets, or do you want to paint cream the color of the wall?
12:02I think I like the cream.
12:04Perfect.
12:04Ella, this is what I used to do the early days of Magnolia, where I was painting everything and then sanding it.
12:13I loved that I could take an old piece and just put a little paint on it and a little, like I would say, the fairy dusting of the sanding and watching that fly off the shelves, because I think that's what people love.
12:23They love that story and that character.
12:26I don't want it to be perfect, so I'm just kind of coming in.
12:31You want it perfect?
12:32Well, do you?
12:36It's like a little bit cleaner strokes.
12:38Cleaner strokes.
12:39Okay.
12:39I love that she's taking control, and she has no problem telling me this is what she wants.
12:46I keep telling Chip, oh, she's going to come back and be my boss.
12:49I'm a little scared.
12:51I'll show you how I like to just sand some of the edges and to let that wood come through so it doesn't look like a piece someone just built for you.
12:58Okay.
12:59Once this is dry, you're going to come in, and you're going to do it just, like, naturally.
13:04Like, hey, where would a distress be?
13:06Does that make sense?
13:07Uh-huh.
13:10Getting to do this with her right before she goes off to college feels really meaningful, especially on a project like this that does feel so much about family and being together.
13:19She's going off to college in one week.
13:23I'm going to be a friggin' mess.
13:26Okay.
13:27I can't wait to see your art project, Ella.
13:31I'll see you soon.
14:02I'll see you soon.
14:32Oh, wow.
14:33That's cute.
14:34As I got to unpacking this, I'm not going to lie, I was a tad surprised about the color palette.
14:41I mean, literally maroon.
14:43It's burgundy.
14:44A&M Aggies have no place in any project that I've ever been a part of in my life.
14:49I think these aren't ours.
14:51This is Ella's project.
14:53She wanted some color.
14:54Ella's tile selection.
14:55She's got maroon, baby blue mixed into this template.
15:00There's no Baylor green.
15:01There's no Baylor gold.
15:02She didn't go to Baylor University.
15:04Her mom and I's alma mater.
15:06So he feels a little bit...
15:07Betrayed.
15:10Hi, Ella.
15:11Do you have a second?
15:12He's laying your tile.
15:14Do you like it?
15:15I think that looks good.
15:16But you know what's not right?
15:18Maroon tile, babe.
15:22Ella, for real.
15:23Yeah.
15:23It reminds him of a certain college, Ella.
15:26Ella, do you feel guilty at all?
15:28No, I like it.
15:31Oh, yeah.
15:31She's got to go.
15:32Oh, okay.
15:33I love you, Ella Rose.
15:34You did great.
15:34I'm only kidding.
15:35Wait, I want to show you one more thing.
15:36Ready?
15:37Look at your arches.
15:38Isn't that cute?
15:40I like those.
15:40I know.
15:41That's really cute.
15:41Tell Ella I'm sorry and to come back.
15:43Okay.
15:44Okay, Ellen.
15:45Love you so much.
15:46Okay, I love you.
15:47Bye.
15:48She had to eat her lunch.
15:51The fact that I'm getting to install some of the tile that she had a part in selecting is the sweet daddy moment.
15:57Here we are sending our little girl off to an entirely different city, and I feel proud.
16:04Jo doesn't want to hear it.
16:05She only wants to hear Holtney.
16:08Hey, but I'm like getting better every day.
16:10This is, like, risky.
16:12Like, I'm glad that she took a couple of chances.
16:14I feel like I'm learning from her.
16:16Babe, I'm so proud of you both.
16:17Good job.
16:18Okay.
16:18All right, I'll get it done.
16:25Man, it's been a great week.
16:27A lot has been going on downstairs in the main house.
16:30The wallpaper is starting to go up in the bunk room.
16:33We're laying the tile in the bunk room bathroom.
16:36Down by the river, we've been working on that fire pit that I'm really excited about.
16:43And we're hustling to get the foundation for both of these fireplaces completed on the exterior.
16:50Wow.
16:51Look at this, y'all.
16:54Coming together.
16:56That's massive.
16:57Yeah.
16:57It's a big, big.
16:58Because we got two fireplaces.
17:00So they're working on the foundation on the outside for the main fireplaces in the house.
17:05It's crazy to think that they need that much support to carry a couple of fireplaces.
17:10So you're saying upstairs, it'll be more this side, and then downstairs, it's this side, which is hence the width.
17:16Yeah.
17:16We're actually going to angle the chimney flue under the deck and tie into this fireplace above.
17:21This is massive concrete right now.
17:23Wow.
17:23It looks like we're building a subway underneath this thing.
17:26Once we get this up, then we can go inside and do all the veneered stone and do the fire brick.
17:30You're good to go.
17:32Heck, yeah.
17:32I'm going to go check out your hard work downstairs.
17:34Yeah, go through the patio.
17:35So we decided to split up.
17:38Chip wanted to see what Steve had worked on down on the river with the fire pit.
17:41And then I wanted to check on the bunk room and then a few other spaces downstairs.
17:46Oh, this looks cute.
17:47It's quaint, which is what I wanted.
17:49Bunk beds, when are they coming in?
17:51Bunk beds can be here in about 11, 12 days.
17:53Golly.
17:54This is being made in the shop.
17:55It's going to come assembled.
17:57So this wall will go wallpaper.
17:59We got the green ceilings.
18:01And then you've got the entry into the bathroom.
18:03Yeah, everyone.
18:03Let me see that.
18:04Yep, and we'll get in there and we'll put in some shelving to fit.
18:08Look at the tile.
18:08So we started putting in your tile.
18:10It looks so cute.
18:12The bathroom tile, one is something, again, a little more feminine, a little more charming and cottagey.
18:17I just think it's so sweet.
18:18And it's a nice balance to all the wood on the walls and even on the ceiling.
18:22I'd say the downstairs is about 80% there.
18:25So I just feel like I'm moving into every space and I can see the finish line.
18:30Oh, man, this looks great.
18:32Well done, Steve.
18:36This is the spot for sure.
18:39Joe is going to love it down here.
18:40It looks great.
18:41This is awesome.
18:43This fire pit and this awesome flagstone sitting area.
18:47I can see this being a really special addition to our family.
18:51I mean, when you think about memories and time spent with your family, it feels like there's going to be some special gains moments that occur on this property.
18:59And for Joe and I, we hope to facilitate a situation like that, you know.
19:06Amen.
19:07Sweet chip.
19:08I was just, it must have been the ragweed.
19:16I don't think I've processed the yellow thing.
19:19And I may be processing it here as we speak for the first time.
19:22I'm about to cry too.
19:23Seeing the vision, seeing the future and planning for it.
19:27That's really been the best part of this whole project.
19:29And we can't wait to come back in a few weeks to finish bringing our dream to life.
19:33Okay, Mikey, I need your help with the Colorado indoor plant vibe.
19:50Construction on the mountain house is almost finished, so I'm finalizing all the styling and everything we're going to be putting in the house.
19:58The thing I've kind of waited a little bit on are plants, which I wanted to source in Waco at one of my favorite greenhouses.
20:06I wanted Mikey to come with me today because she's the plant lady expert of America and Colorado and Texas.
20:14Right?
20:15Thanks.
20:16The vibe is like cottage meets mountain lodge.
20:19I think rubber plants feels good.
20:20I think anything that's trailing, anything that's sweet.
20:24You love Colorado.
20:25You love the vibes.
20:26I feel like you're going to be the best.
20:29This one, she knows Colorado pretty well.
20:31Mikey would work there in the summer.
20:33She'd also play guitar for money, you know, and in pearl.
20:38And maybe got a dollar.
20:40She and her friends would, like, go with mattresses.
20:43We would boulder and we'd take our mattress and it would be our crash pad.
20:47Can you imagine me doing that?
20:50A lot of plants actually adapt.
20:54Plants are just so sweet.
20:55I love plants.
20:57My favorite thing, though, Mikey, because you have not seen this place, there'll be room for all of us.
21:02We never get to actually vacation together, but I feel like because there's these little side cottages, we could all fit.
21:09The week that we go to put all the furniture in, you probably can't come because you have six kids.
21:15But if you can come, will you help me?
21:17With the plants?
21:18With the plants or to be our first official guest.
21:21I would love to.
21:22So if you want, I'll tell you the date.
21:24And, like, this will be fun.
21:26I think this is a good start.
21:27This house just feels like Mikey's going to love it.
21:32So it feels right that she's going to be the first to see it in a few weeks.
21:36We finally finished all of our preparations in Waco, and over the last few weeks, trucks have made their way to Colorado for staging at the Mountain House.
21:50The distance has definitely been a challenge, but now that it's all ready to go, I can't wait to start bringing these spaces to life.
21:57So it's the first day of staging at the Mountain House.
22:00So exciting.
22:02I have been waiting for this day for, it feels like, a long time.
22:06This reminds me of every other fixer where we're moving into rooms that are still not completely finished.
22:11There's still so many workers in the house.
22:13And what we're trying to do just for our minds is maybe try to finish one room at a time as far as getting everything hung and all of the furniture placed.
22:22But I love the energy of just the hustle, the saw, everything about it.
22:28It's like work is happening.
22:30So this is where we're at.
22:32This room looks pretty much done.
22:34Look over here.
22:35Peek in here.
22:36Hi.
22:37Hi.
22:39This, I'm not even going to think about that.
22:41Oh, there's a big bear.
22:43Seriously?
22:43I mean, big.
22:44I'm not kidding.
22:45See him right there by the big rock.
22:46Look at him crossing over.
22:47Oh, my gosh.
22:47Oh.
22:48Oh, my gosh.
22:50Oh.
22:51Too bad I'll never go down there.
22:53He's kind of cute.
22:54George, who missed it?
22:55They all think it's funny.
22:56It's totally funny.
22:58So I actually forgot what we were talking about, but we're back.
23:01The bear has crossed the river, and there's so much to do.
23:04I'm just going to pretend that never happened.
23:07What I'm trying to do is get it down to the brawl.
23:10All of the intricate details of these legs now have this highlight on it because we sanded
23:19them down.
23:20Chip isn't here, but if he was, I wouldn't let him do this because to me, you have to have
23:25a light hand.
23:26You can overdo it, and then it just feels a little too shabby or something.
23:32So we're going to go try this out.
23:34This is such a tight timeline on just trying to get everything in the house.
23:38And so we have so many Magnolia family members here with us.
23:43I just think this is like a fun party.
23:44Where do we start?
23:45Everyone's kind of tackling each room.
23:49We planned it pretty tight to where everything's like a map.
23:52Basically, when everyone got here, it was like, this goes in room one, this goes in room
23:55two.
23:56So it's so thought out.
23:58So they just cleaned out this portion of Ella's cottage, and I'm wanting to get the bulk
24:03of her stuff in here.
24:04She actually comes tomorrow, which I'm so excited.
24:07I haven't seen her since I dropped her off at her dorm.
24:10Really trying to get everything buttoned up in there today and tomorrow before she gets
24:14here so she can just have full reign in there.
24:17You know, this project has been very personal as a family and an extended family.
24:22This is where we come.
24:23It's not just about, I want it to be pretty.
24:25How does this tell the story of us here?
24:28Now as I'm stepping in and it's all coming together, it's like, ah, it feels like it's right.
24:32We're about 80% done with the staging in the main house, but we're still waiting on the
24:42kitchen and the living room.
24:44In the meantime, we're focusing on the cottages.
24:46I like this.
24:48I do too.
24:50Ella really wanted to be here as we started moving in, and so we timed it to where she could
24:56fly here over the weekend and tackle her little cottage.
25:00She's been in here putting all her stuff together, so I'm going to check on her.
25:06If you want something here, we were thinking cherries or persimmons.
25:11Persimmons.
25:12Persimmons.
25:13That's a soft one if you want to eat one.
25:15These are her favorites.
25:16Before I pop this, do you like this Audrey Ficus here?
25:20Yeah, maybe a stool.
25:22So put it on a little stool?
25:23Yes, because I think I'd kind of like it to like...
25:26Then let me go find a couple stool options.
25:28Did we have more candlesticks, like that one?
25:32Because I think that looks a little bit weird.
25:33By itself?
25:34Yeah.
25:34I will go get you more candles.
25:37Throughout this journey with Ella, taking a backseat, letting her lead has been so fun.
25:43I feel like I'm the design intern.
25:45Ma'am, do any of these suit your fancy?
25:49So I got you all of these little things, if you like them.
25:55That's cute.
25:56I think so, yeah.
25:57I mean, that's really sweet.
25:59You know, there's so many things that I love about this little cottage that I feel like Ella really saw from day one.
26:05I love the kitchen.
26:07I love how she played with blue and green.
26:11She was not afraid to mix colors.
26:13Do you feel good about the kitchen?
26:16Um, yes.
26:18You want to tackle it yourself?
26:20Mm-hmm.
26:21Okay, I'm going to go work on the big cottage.
26:24If you need me, I'm right over there.
26:26Have some fun in here, babe.
26:27Okay, I'm proud of you.
26:28This place is so cute.
26:32The last time I saw Ella is when I dropped her off at college, almost a month ago.
26:35So getting to see her and how much she's grown in just that one month period, it does something to my heart.
26:44Crew and Chip get here tomorrow.
26:46Crew doesn't know he's about to see his big sister.
26:48So we've kept that from him because he has missed her so much and she has missed him.
26:52So that's going to be a fun little reunion, especially because he'll be the first to see Ella's first finished design project.
26:59And then my sister, Mikey, and her husband, David, get here the day after that.
27:03So we've got a really tight timeline to button everything up.
27:14Oh my, I've been waiting for you!
27:18You've got your boots on.
27:20Hey, look what I need help with today.
27:22Remember this little cottage?
27:24Do you see that blue tape?
27:25What do you think that says?
27:27Wet paint.
27:27So what does that mean?
27:29Don't step on it.
27:29Don't step on it.
27:30Hold on, hold on before you go in.
27:31Hold on one second.
27:32I need you to peel the blue tape off.
27:35Okay.
27:36Wow, okay.
27:37Are you ready to see your little fixer-upper?
27:41Ready?
27:43Okay, step over the paint.
27:44Oh my goodness.
27:55Ella!
27:56Oh my goodness, do you love it?
28:01I miss you too, buddy.
28:03Do you want to look around?
28:05Yes.
28:09Look up there.
28:10Isn't it awesome?
28:11This is so cool.
28:15This is so cute.
28:16It's so fun to see Ella and y'all.
28:18Are y'all having fun?
28:19So much fun.
28:20You wait till you see this.
28:22I can't wait.
28:23Do you love the little cottage?
28:25Yes.
28:26Look at our little fireplace.
28:28So cute.
28:30We need to collect some pine cones, okay?
28:32For our little swan.
28:34And look, you need to do some artwork for that, okay?
28:37Some watercolors so that we can put it right here.
28:39Okay.
28:40Okay, do you know what you're going to draw?
28:42Probably a fish.
28:43Probably a fish.
28:44You want to go look in the bathroom?
28:50Do you like the tile?
28:51Mm-hmm.
28:54That's for your laundry.
28:56Or we can put the fish that I can't catch in here.
29:01That's a great idea.
29:05This is like the perfect size for both of them.
29:09Probably my favorite reveal ever.
29:15We are at the last day before the reveal at the main house.
29:19And as only we can do it, you know, it's like there's never a dull moment.
29:22There's so much action going on here in the mountain house.
29:25I don't know if we've had another project where there's like multiple little units.
29:29Yeah.
29:29This feels like a little tiny compound.
29:31We are finishing up the main space, which is the kitchen, dining, and the living room.
29:36We can't control that right now.
29:37But what we can control is the tiny cottage and the big cottage.
29:41Now that the big cottage is done, I really wanted Chip to walk through it.
29:45We repainted the siding a really beautiful green, added new shutters, and then the hand-hewn beams on the porch.
29:52Love that we've been able to refurbish those cool rocking chairs.
29:55I love them.
29:57After you.
29:57Ladies first.
30:00Let me see what you've done to the place.
30:02That's so cute.
30:02What have you done to the place?
30:06As you step into the house, we added the fireplace, which I think is the biggest statement in that room.
30:12And then the two new windows.
30:14Golly, babe, the place looks great.
30:18Look at Ella and crew.
30:24Best friends.
30:25I was really thinking about our boys when I designed this cottage.
30:29This just feels like a more masculine-feeling space.
30:35We painted the ceiling and the trim a really pretty green.
30:39And then we plastered all of the walls and the main space, which is really, like, moody and earthy.
30:45And then added a few feminine touches.
30:48We added some gingham fabric to the window seat.
30:52I love that that was existing, so I wanted to really highlight that.
30:55Something about it is super charming, you know?
30:58The Dutch door that was in the existing kitchen in the main house is now here,
31:02and I feel like it feels just perfect in that spot.
31:06And we just galley-kitchened this by adding all new cabinets, because theirs were shot.
31:12Added this cute little scallop bin hood, which I love.
31:15Love it.
31:16And then this really pretty tile for the backsplash.
31:19Used the existing butcher block countertops.
31:21Chip, remember the lights?
31:23Oh, of course.
31:24Steve said those are going to take another month or two.
31:25Okay, so we're going to late.
31:26We had these for Ella's cottage, and her ceilings were too low.
31:29So these are placeholders.
31:30Yes.
31:31Good.
31:32And then into the bathroom.
31:34We kept the tub, sink, toilet all in place.
31:39Kept the existing vanity, added new countertops.
31:42And then we did a really pretty black and white tile on the wall,
31:45and then added new light fixtures and hardware.
31:48I just think this turned out great.
31:50This was simple.
31:50And last but not least, the bedroom.
31:56I love this room.
31:56Love this plaid wallpaper.
31:58Yeah.
31:58I feel like we just matched the green to the wallpaper.
32:02Even adding those pretty sconces just elevated a little bit, but...
32:05Gorgeous, babe.
32:06Again, that mix of, like, masculine, but then with these little floral chairs,
32:10so it didn't feel so boyish.
32:12Yeah.
32:12It was like a mix of both.
32:14Well, you did it.
32:15You just gave me the fastest tour in Fixer Upper history.
32:18Well done, Steve.
32:19Guess what?
32:20I think I have about 10 minutes left, and we can move in.
32:23He keeps telling me 10 minutes.
32:25Any minute.
32:25Because I just got to finish those beams in that kitchen,
32:27and we can move into the kitchen, and we're finally done.
32:29And then...
32:30The big house.
32:30Revealed tomorrow.
32:31Let's go.
32:31Okay.
32:32Well done, babe.
32:33I'm proud of you.
32:34Thank you, Chip.
32:35Now all of our efforts can go into the main house.
32:39Mikey and David, my sister and brother-in-law, are flying in.
32:42We wanted to reveal this to them.
32:44They're going to be one of the first families that come to visit,
32:46so we thought it'd be fun to kind of show them the lay of the land.
32:49But, I mean, we're crossing our fingers we get in before dark
32:52because there's still a lot of work to happen in there.
32:55Wow, y'all.
32:57Yes.
32:58Joe has this innate ability to take something across the finish line
33:03that appears impossible.
33:05I think a part of me really feeds off that energy.
33:08And then it's game time.
33:10Tomorrow's the reveal.
33:16Oh, babe, your sister's here.
33:23All right.
33:25Today is the day.
33:27The project is finally complete.
33:29And to top that off,
33:30my sister Mikey and David are going to be our first guests.
33:34Welcome, y'all.
33:35So we're going to get to show them the property,
33:37show them the house.
33:38We can't wait.
33:39Okie dokie.
33:41Goodness, look at that landscape.
33:43You step in here
33:44and it just feels like this magical little fairy world.
33:47Mikey, look at this house.
33:51So pretty.
33:52Let's let them look at this house.
33:54Me and David are going to go look at the river.
33:57You two are on your own.
33:59You two are on your own.
34:00Have fun.
34:01David and I will meet you back in maybe an hour or so.
34:03Grab crew.
34:04He's on the back porch waiting for you.
34:06You got it.
34:06Okie, so Mikey, let's go look at the house.
34:08Okie, bye.
34:09David, you're going to love that river.
34:11I can't wait.
34:12So out here, we painted the exterior green.
34:15We added a new front door, wood shutters,
34:18and then we cleaned up all of the landscape
34:20and added some new plants.
34:23You going first?
34:24Okie.
34:25Oh my goodness, Jo.
34:26Isn't it so pretty?
34:27The wood.
34:29The floors were original.
34:31We added all this really beautiful antique oak.
34:35But I just love this idea of this place to put your stuff.
34:39It felt like a nice welcome.
34:40Yeah.
34:42And then stepping into here, the fire.
34:44Oh my goodness, Jo.
34:45Oh my goodness, Jo.
34:46The fire.
34:46Don't look okay.
34:48Okay, sorry.
34:48I just.
34:50That red fireplace is original.
34:53These beams were existing, but so dark that when we added all the wood to the ceilings,
34:58we had this amazing painter come in and paint every one of these beams.
35:02It's crazy.
35:03It's crazy.
35:03Is this plaster?
35:04This is plaster.
35:06These are fun.
35:06These are vintage, and I just recovered them with the gingham.
35:09This is probably one of my favorite little settings.
35:11Okay, we'll go here first.
35:14We opened this up to really define the space.
35:17This is the living room.
35:20This fireplace we added, and I love this red rock just because it ties back to that.
35:27They had two small windows, so we opened that up to bring in more natural light.
35:34So it feels like you're in the tree house.
35:37Like the small Aspens.
35:38I know.
35:40Imagine playing cards here, having coffee.
35:44Okay.
35:45To the kitchen.
35:47This used to be their living room.
35:50Oh, Jo.
35:51This is amazing.
35:53We added green tile.
35:56Oh, wow.
35:57Custom cabinetry.
35:59This beautiful vent hood.
36:02There's nothing she can't do.
36:03Stop it.
36:05Seriously.
36:05Imagine all of us at this table.
36:07Wow.
36:08Isn't it so pretty?
36:10The table's like the best thing.
36:12And then here you see this really pretty black countertop, more of that green tile, and then these really pretty cabinets.
36:21I want it to feel like lodge and cottage.
36:25The strong green tile, all of the wood, but then you have these like dainty little chairs.
36:30So it's like masculine, but then also charming and sweet.
36:35Yes.
36:35That's the style.
36:37Oh, I love this style.
36:38I want to show you what was the kitchen.
36:40Okay.
36:41You won't believe how little it was.
36:42So this walked into the kitchen.
36:44It was cottagey.
36:45It was really sweet.
36:46But I thought for this amount of space, a cozy reading room would be perfect.
36:51This was the original range.
36:54So we just put this little stove here, added shelving.
36:58We created this little nook right here.
37:02These beautiful floors are antique.
37:04We added paneling on the walls, a darker color, but then vertical and horizontal.
37:09So it just felt super interesting.
37:12And then here we created a cased opening to make this feel a little more defined.
37:18This is a tiny powder bath.
37:20Look at the tile.
37:23Fun little sink.
37:23Yeah.
37:24So pretty.
37:25Okay.
37:25Now we're walking into the primary.
37:28That is beautiful.
37:30This is another space where it's like, oh, if you could imagine it before, this was all
37:35walled off.
37:35There's no bathroom.
37:36There's no closet.
37:38So we opened that up, added wallpaper and a sweet scalloped trim.
37:42We added the light oak onto the ceiling.
37:45And then again, we faux painted these beams to match.
37:48That balcony was already there.
37:50These windows were there.
37:52I think the biggest thing here is I didn't want to do a door to the bathroom because I
37:55wanted this space to feel larger.
37:57And now you walk into the primary bath.
38:01And then again, there were no closets.
38:03So adding all of this closet space, water closet, shower, a tub by the windows, added
38:09the double vanity, all this beautiful wood.
38:12All the wood and all the detail looks original.
38:15That was the goal.
38:17Okay.
38:17So now I want to take you downstairs.
38:21Hey, Mikey.
38:22I love this gorgeous wood.
38:25Beautiful.
38:25Just kind of Swiss chalet inspiration.
38:30And then here, I want to show you another guest bedroom.
38:35So we just plastered the walls, painted this trim green, added new sconces here.
38:41There was no bathroom connected.
38:43And now we created a really pretty bathroom with a double vanity in that same light oak, black
38:52countertops, these pretty mirrors, and a picture frame tile in the shower.
38:57That's amazing.
38:58Yeah.
38:59And then let's walk out into this hallway.
39:03Just cut into the stairs and created this little nook moment so it felt bigger.
39:08And then stepping in here.
39:10So this was their primary suite.
39:12Okay.
39:12But I turned it into living space.
39:15Wow.
39:17I can imagine all the kids.
39:20So this is kind of the game room, hot cocoa coffee bar.
39:23I love this hand-painted tile.
39:29If you look in here, this is the laundry room.
39:33This was actually their bathroom.
39:35But I felt like we needed a larger space for all of our winter clothes and boots.
39:39Added all of the paneling on the walls, washer, dryer, the sink.
39:44And then that vintage ski wallpaper.
39:46Cute.
39:48And then stepping into here, this was the primary bedroom, but now this is the den.
39:53Pretty.
39:55Love that every room almost has a fireplace.
39:57Isn't that crazy?
39:59You know, Chip loves wood-burning fireplaces.
40:01So we added that new fireplace, the French doors.
40:05I love this little nook right here with new fabric.
40:09I'd be happy just to see me here.
40:10I know.
40:10I feel like this is like a cute moment to read a book.
40:14This is where we're all going to probably hang out.
40:17Wow.
40:19One thing I'm probably the most excited about, this was their closet.
40:25And now this is the bunk room.
40:28So four beds.
40:31These beams were there.
40:31I added some tongue and groove, added the pretty wallpaper, all the little sconces.
40:36This room was inspired by our girls.
40:38This is the space that they're going to be in.
40:41It's really sweet.
40:41All the stories.
40:42And then the bathroom for this space, but also for the guests out here, is right here.
40:47Okay.
40:48So we turned this part of the closet into a bathroom that ties into the design of the bunk room.
40:54But look at that plaid tile.
40:56And I love the mirror and these sweet little sconces.
41:00All the wallpaper and tile is still so special.
41:02I do feel like they all have a little story.
41:05Yes.
41:10Okay.
41:11Last but not least, I want to show you the deck.
41:15Oh, my goodness.
41:16I purposely did lounge chairs because I just think it's so good to lay here and listen to the river.
41:22Look.
41:23Chip looks like a natural.
41:25Let's go down there.
41:26When the weather's nice, we can hang here.
41:30Do you see it?
41:30Look.
41:31Let's see if it gets attacked.
41:36Hey, Chip.
41:37Look who I found.
41:38Oh, finally.
41:40Crew sees a trout.
41:41Oh, man.
41:41It's going to be hard to get him home.
41:43How was the tour?
41:44Oh, amazing.
41:46Yeah, what did you think?
41:47Once again, in awe.
41:47What was your favorite spot?
41:48Hey, Joe.
41:49I love walking into that fireplace.
41:51And then you can see the kitchen.
41:53It's like a 360 of awesomeness.
41:56Awesome.
41:56360 of awesomeness.
41:58All right.
41:59I can live with that.
42:00With all the glass and looking out at the table.
42:02Yeah, that view.
42:03It's so pretty.
42:04You can just feel the love and the effort that you guys put into this thing.
42:08So it just looks like a million bucks.
42:09This has been such a unique journey.
42:12Now that we're at the finish line, we can finally enjoy it.
42:16This feels like a home for us.
42:17And even the fact that we didn't get to be here every day like we're used to doing in Waco on those projects.
42:22It was truly the next best thing to have to do.
42:24He was probably thankful that you weren't here every day.
42:27I'm sure he was.
42:27But see, for real, like genuinely, we're so grateful.
42:29Well done, man.
42:30It feels so special.
42:31The last 10 years, we've spent time here in Colorado as a family.
42:35So it just feels like a full circle moment, seeing the future, but also just sitting in it now presently.
42:41It feels like such a gift.
42:42And I can't wait for all that's to come.
42:44Steve, congratulations, man.
42:45Enjoy.
42:45Well done.
42:46Well done.
42:47Proud of you.
42:47We'll see you next time.
43:01Bye.
