00:00magnetospheres like the one that encompasses earth are quite amazing they shield our planet
00:07from much of the harmful radiation from the sun meaning they essentially allow life to survive
00:12on our planet however they also have another peculiarity they sing and while the magnetosphere
00:17around mercury isn't powerful enough to allow life to survive there it still sings and experts
00:22at nasa have just captured its sounds they're aptly called chorus waves and this is what they
00:27sound like mercury's magnetic field is quite weak but it still exhibits many of the phenomena you
00:41might expect from a planet with a magnetosphere in fact despite an extremely thin atmosphere
00:45astronomers recently discovered that it still has auroras though no doubt less gorgeous than
00:50those on our own planet and that might be why the sounds of mercury's magnetosphere
00:53we're only recorded in one particular area one known as the dawn sector with the experts saying
01:02the better understanding these chorus waves could help us better understand how
01:06magnetized planetary environments are shaped by the solar winds of a system
