00:00Closed 14 years ago when civil war broke out, Libya's National Museum has at last reopened its doors.
00:07It's a symbolic moment for a country torn apart by conflict and a reminder of the country's long and shared history.
00:16Its collection spans more than 5,000 years.
00:21The National Museum is considered a cultural fortress, one of the largest existing collections in Libya,
00:28as it encompasses all the civilizations that Libya has experienced throughout history, from prehistoric times to the present.
00:41One of the museum's most famous exhibits is a tiny child mummy.
00:48More than 5,000 years old, it was found at the ancient site of one muhujaj in southern Libya in the 1950s.
00:58There were also prehistoric stone tools and artifacts.
01:03All survived the years of war.
01:06To be honest, we took up precautions, and these pieces were hidden and preserved.
01:11And no theft, or even attempted theft, occurred inside the museum.
01:16To be transparent, even attempts didn't happen.
01:20The museum's collection includes many Greek and Roman statues, testament to the rich and complex history of the North African nation and the civilizations it emerged from.
01:33Today, I visited the museum with my children.
01:38Thank God, after being closed for more than 14 years, the museum has reopened beautifully.
01:44And to be honest, I took this opportunity to teach the little ones about Libya's wonderful history.
01:51The atmosphere was very nice.
01:54Organization was more than wonderful.
01:57We saw a collection of antique artifacts related to the Libyan resistance against Italian colonialism.
02:05Libya is still facing ongoing changes and enormous challenges.
02:10But for many, the reopening of its national museum is a sign of a return to stability and a consolidation of national identity.
