At least 13 people were killed and nearly 100 injured when the Transistmo train, part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, derailed in the community of Nizanda, southern Mexico. The locomotive was carrying 241 passengers and nine crew members when it left the tracks. Of the injured, 36 were hospitalized, five in serious condition. Emergency services transferred victims to local hospitals and launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Rescue operations continue with the support of land and air ambulances, as well as naval security personnel.
