00:00:42Well, I'll get you with a nice cup of tea after that.
00:00:46I've never seen the town centre so busy.
00:00:52Oh, I'm sorry, Helen. I didn't know there was a team meeting.
00:00:55Oh, you're fine, Marjorie. I was just making a small announcement.
00:00:58You'll never believe it.
00:00:59She's only taking us away for the office Christmas party.
00:01:02It's been a tough old year.
00:01:04And I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me get through it.
00:01:08Guess what? We're only going to the ruddy Caribbean.
00:01:11Oh, my goodness gracious me!
00:01:13Oh, although it does mean missing the away game of Colchester.
00:01:17What's that matter?
00:01:18It's the Caribbean!
00:01:20And you've properly budgeted for it, Mum?
00:01:23Yes, Neil. It's all accounted for.
00:01:25Quite sure?
00:01:27You know, I've always wanted to visit that part of the world.
00:01:32Oh, um...
00:01:35Not you, Marjorie Love. It's senior staff only.
00:01:38I am so sorry. I should have said.
00:01:40Oh!
00:01:41Of course.
00:01:42Um...
00:01:43I'm sorry, Helen.
00:01:44Silly old me.
00:01:45Duh!
00:01:50Oh, I...
00:01:51Probably should get that.
00:01:53We are so...
00:01:54We are so going bikini shopping after work tonight.
00:01:58You might treat yourself to some speed, or was...?
00:02:01Duckdale's branded merchandise. Marjorie speaking.

00:03:05Happy Christmas.
00:03:26Wizard.
00:03:35Hi, Marjorie.
00:03:42I just want to let you know that there's a Commissioner Patterson arriving.
00:03:48It's a serious situation over here.
00:03:51Give him access to anything he needs.
00:03:54I've told the police here that we're going to cooperate fully.
00:03:57Will do, Helen.
00:03:58Oh, I hear him now.
00:03:59We'll speak later.
00:04:01Okay.
00:04:03Ah!
00:04:05You must be the policeman from the Caribbean.
00:04:07Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:04:09Selwyn Patterson.
00:04:11So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:04:15The police were called to your colleague's Holiday Villa,
00:04:18where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found, shot dead, murdered.
00:04:24I must be the murderer.
00:04:35Good night.
00:04:36Let's go to Mr.
00:04:41Good morning, Miss Baudet.
00:05:09Good morning, Seb.
00:05:11It's a final rehearsal for the Nativity this evening.
00:05:14I wish you all the best, Anne.
00:05:16Good luck to you, little king people.
00:05:19Yes, I... Yes. Yes.
00:05:21Anne, let's go.
00:05:31Good morning, Sarge.
00:05:33Morning, Seb.
00:05:34Got a card from Darlene.
00:05:36Looks like she won't make it back for Christmas.
00:05:38Her auntie's still sick, so she's staying on Montserrat.
00:05:41Nothing in the post for the inspector, you know, from Antigua.
00:05:46His brother, you mean?
00:05:48It's been three months.
00:05:50I guess it's like a lot, you know?
00:05:53I mean, in getting a letter from a breadie you never knew you had.
00:05:57It might take some time.
00:05:59I just feel sorry for him.
00:06:01He keeps saying he's fine about it, but I don't think he is.
00:06:06Where is D.I. Wilson?
00:06:09Rehearsing.
00:06:10Oh, yes.
00:06:11Oh, I am so jealous.
00:06:13He must be hyped up to wear that costume, huh?
00:06:16I bet he is.
00:06:19I'm really not happy about this.
00:06:20Why not, Mervyn?
00:06:21Because I look like a ninny.
00:06:23No, you don't.
00:06:25You look very...
00:06:27Authentic.
00:06:29I just don't think the boots are helping.
00:06:35Look, with all due respect, Miss Baudet,
00:06:37I just think it'd be better off finding somebody else for this.
00:06:41You know, somebody less...
00:06:43Me.
00:06:44Mervyn, it has always been the commissioner
00:06:46who carries out this task for me.
00:06:49With him gone.
00:06:50Inspector.
00:06:51Oh, great.
00:06:53Yes, sir.
00:06:54You look cool, man.
00:06:55Not another word.
00:06:56That's right, man.
00:06:58Could we have a chat, sir?
00:07:05We have a murder to attend.
00:07:08For real?
00:07:11Well, that's that, then.
00:07:13I've got word to do.
00:07:14Conversation over.
00:07:15Conversation paused.
00:07:16Sorry, Catherine.
00:07:17Come on, let's go.
00:07:20Um, Inspector.
00:07:21You think maybe you should change first?
00:07:25You think maybe you should change first?
00:07:25Victim's name is Darion St. Jules.
00:07:54He's a local fisherman, lives half a mile up the coast.
00:07:58Right.
00:08:00The guests staying here are from the UK.
00:08:01They all say they haven't a clue who he is or what he was doing here.
00:08:06But clearly, someone must have shot him and left him there.
00:08:10Right.
00:08:10No sign of the gun, but paramedic sourcing with the bullet still lodged in the victim's shoulder, cause of death was possibly from internal bleeding.
00:08:21Right.
00:08:22And what about you, Inspector?
00:08:23And what about you, Inspector?
00:08:24Anything of interest?
00:08:25Well, he certainly liked his aftershave.
00:08:28Have a sniff.
00:08:29I guess that's pretty strong.
00:08:30I don't know if it's cause of his work.
00:08:31You know, slapped on the old cologne to cover the smell of fish.
00:08:36I know a big man in Tootin did the same thing.
00:08:37And that's what bothers you the most.
00:08:38The fact that the victim used a bit too much aftershave.
00:08:39Actually, what's bothering me the most is what's written on the palm of his left hand.
00:08:43Blitzen.
00:08:44Like the reindeer.
00:08:45It's the only one I can think of.
00:08:46It's the only one I can think of.
00:08:47Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen.
00:08:52And Rudolph.
00:08:53Thank you, Officer Rose.
00:08:54That the only thing I think seems fresh.
00:08:55This means he wrote it in the last 12 hours or so.
00:09:02And then not long after, he was shot.
00:09:05That the thing is Judy, let's see what he was shot.
00:09:10Not long after, he was shot.
00:09:12You know, not long after he was still shot.
00:09:15Something seems to me.
00:09:17I don't know.
00:09:19I don't know.
00:09:20If you're a young woman, I'm a young man who was not.
00:09:22he was shot when it is christmas sir could just be a coincidence
00:09:33we've no idea who this guy is or what he's doing in our villa so how can we know why
00:09:37he wrote the name of one of santa's reindeer on his hand i don't know i'm just asking the question
00:09:41not a problem is it no no of course not thank you let's start with you telling me what you're doing
00:09:49here on saint marie well we flew here for our office christmas party wasn't cheap we were having the
00:09:55time of our lives
00:10:01life's a beach maybe talk us through the events of last night yeah what happened exactly we said we
00:10:21take it easy for our last night then we got back here and carried on drinking yeah looks like quite
00:10:37a party you had yeah done right it was sorry that's not appropriate the rum out here um it's stronger
00:10:46than we used to and what time did the party end i haven't got a clue me to be honest yeah it's all
00:11:02a little bit hazy i really don't remember very much you got a lightweight man i remember everything
00:11:11helen you and me put neil to bed about midnight i'm sure i wasn't that bad
00:11:15are you so uh oh he's always had a low tolerance mom sorry love
00:11:24can we just yeah helen you went to bed as well me and you kept on it till about half three
00:11:34gab you were so cute you were dead to the world by then so uh i left you asleep in the hammock and then
00:11:42what oh and then um the taxi for the airport woke me up
00:11:50everyone wake up wake up wake up
00:11:55that's when i saw him i thought he was asleep at first but when i got closer i saw the blood
00:12:01someone call an ambulance now you were in the hammock when whatever happened happened you didn't hear
00:12:10the gunshot well yeah yeah you thought but well it's like helen said you know the room out here it's
00:12:15stronger than you used to inspector that's something you should see
00:12:21this is the only security camera footage from the villa footage is from this morning outside the front door
00:12:30the victim arrives at 5 32 a.m heads inside the door was unlocked so he let himself in
00:12:37after that nobody is seen leaving or arriving so the only way in or out is from the front
00:12:42and the drop at the back is too steep for access so it's got to be one of these four who shot down
00:12:49in st jules which means the gun that they used must still be here but they're all saying they've never
00:12:54met him before so why would one of them kill a total stranger
00:13:13hello can i help you how have you come to check in the name's helen dugdale of course one moment please
00:13:19i can't believe they're not letting us fly home this police overreach is what it is so much for
00:13:27doing something different should have just gone to the red lion like last year none of this would have
00:13:32happened do you think there's something helen's not telling us she's been on edge ever since the police
00:13:49so why did darian go to that villa at 5 30 in the morning let's see what we found at his house
00:14:02how are you getting on sir well i haven't found anything that connects our victim to the suspects
00:14:08but i have found this the victim's aftershave really this again it's different to the one he was wearing
00:14:13at the crime scene here have a sniff i haven't found any others here and there certainly wasn't one
00:14:22on his person so why did he smell different to the brand of aftershave that he owned
00:14:26so i searched the suspects the villa and surrounding areas and there was no gun no it has to be there
00:14:50no one left the villa after the victim was shot so the weapon has to be there somewhere yeah no i totally
00:14:55get your logic inspector what you think there for definite there's no gun at the villa but that
00:15:00doesn't make any sense so sorry excuse me hello yes well this is a strange one we've got four people
00:15:08suspected of shooting a man they don't know with a gun they don't have let's start working through the
00:15:13victim's laptop see what's on there we need to find that gun
00:15:15what actually sir it's the nativity service if you'd forgotten are you serious and we promised
00:15:26katherine we'd make sure you get there look we've got a murder case to solve in case you hadn't
00:15:31noticed and i haven't got time for play acting with a bunch of kids at some school nativity then
00:15:36you better find the time inspector
00:15:42why is she good evening to you inspector officer curtis was a pleasant surprise
00:15:48my niece is performing in the nativity tonight and word has got back to me that they might not
00:15:54have a narrator because the man who is supposed to be doing it is being a grumpy ghost about the
00:16:01whole thing a grumpy now listen no you listen to me you are doing it end of so get your backside down
00:16:08to that church and man up
00:16:14you know i never did like this sort of thing the nativity carol services right is there anything
00:16:34about christmas you do like sir no not really oh hang on yeah um the great escape the what the great
00:16:42escape the movie was on telly every christmas you know with the the motorcycle stunt and the cooler
00:16:49the dirt down the trousers no i give up me too mervyn we're waiting ready when you are right

00:20:07It builds as they lay
00:20:12It builds as they lay
00:20:18Deep in the sea
00:20:31Hey sir, you didn't come back
00:20:50Just wanted to check how you're doing
00:20:53Yeah, it wasn't Solomon on the phone
00:20:56Anyway, I've been thinking
00:20:59We really don't know anything about these people
00:21:02You know, their lives in the UK
00:21:05I was thinking we could use someone to do a bit of digging into our suspects back in their hometown
00:21:10Right, you want me to get in touch with the Swindon Police?
00:21:12No, no, no, I've already done that
00:21:14They're flat out till New Year
00:21:16But then I remembered we do have someone in the UK
00:21:18Who maybe could give us a hand
00:21:20You must be the policeman from the Caribbean
00:21:31Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:21:33Selwyn Patterson
00:21:35I'm no longer a commissioner
00:21:37I'm retired now
00:21:38Right, okay
00:21:40So now you're just...
00:21:42Helping out
00:21:43Somewhat reluctantly
00:21:44If I'm honest with you
00:21:46So, erm, what has actually happened out there?
00:21:50The police were called to your colleague's holiday villa
00:21:53Where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found
00:21:56Shot dead, murdered
00:21:58I'm keen to get on with things and get out of here as quickly as I can
00:22:03Rightio
00:22:05Well, I'll give you the guided tour
00:22:07Welcome to Dugdale's branded merchandise
00:22:10So, that desk over there is Helen
00:22:15She's the managing director
00:22:17This desk belongs to our graphic designer, Gavin
00:22:21Accounts manager, Neil
00:22:23And Karen, head of sales
00:22:25And this one?
00:22:27Oh, oh, she's not here anymore
00:22:29She left a couple of months ago
00:22:31Who?
00:22:32Er, Ashley
00:22:33Ashley
00:22:34Ashley Sims, her name was
00:22:36It was all somewhat clandestine, if you ask me, Mr. Patterson
00:22:43She did what they call a midnight flit
00:22:46Never came back
00:22:48Are you sure you don't want a cup of tea?
00:22:51I'm gonna make myself one
00:22:53This drawer is locked
00:22:55Oh, yes, it's been like that since Ashley left
00:22:57She has the only key
00:22:59I've been meaning to sort it
00:23:01Commissioner, you do know what time it is over here, right?
00:23:03Half past three in the morning
00:23:05But as I've abandoned a good friend's wedding to travel to Swindon
00:23:06And help you out
00:23:07Okay, fair dues
00:23:08How can I help?
00:23:09The bullet you recovered from your victim
00:23:11Have you had the ballistics report back on it yet?
00:23:13Yeah, it was a .45 calibre
00:23:15Most likely fired from a pistol
00:23:17And did you find the weapon?
00:23:18No
00:23:19Why?
00:23:20Because I'm currently looking at a .45
00:23:21No
00:23:22Why?
00:23:23Because I'm currently looking at a .45
00:23:25caliber pistol
00:23:26In a desk drawer
00:23:27In Swindon
00:23:28No
00:23:29Why?
00:23:30Because I'm currently looking at a .45 calibre pistol
00:23:32In a desk drawer
00:23:33In Swindon
00:23:34It can't be the same one
00:23:35Can it?
00:23:36No
00:23:37It can't be the same one
00:23:38Can it?
00:23:39No
00:23:40Okay, fair dues
00:23:41Okay, fair dues
00:23:42How can I help?
00:23:43The bullet you recovered from your victim
00:23:44Have you had the ballistics report back on it yet?
00:23:45Yeah, it was a .45 calibre
00:23:46Most likely fired from a pistol
00:23:47And did you find the weapon?
00:23:48No
00:23:49Why?
00:23:50Because I'm currently looking at a .45 calibre pistol
00:23:53In a desk drawer
00:23:54In Swindon
00:23:55It can't be the same one
00:23:57Can it?
00:24:00Can it?
00:24:17Morning sir
00:24:18Morning inspector
00:24:19This can't be right
00:24:21It just can't be
00:24:22What's going on?
00:24:23Commissioner found a gun
00:24:25Locked in the desk drawer
00:24:26Of an ex-employee called Ashley Simms
00:24:28In the Dugdale's offices back in the UK
00:24:30What?
00:24:31Local forensic lab fast tracked it
00:24:32And they say that is the gun
00:24:34That fired the bullet
00:24:35That killed Darren St. Jules
00:24:37Look
00:24:38Security footage shows that no one touched that drawer since the shooting
00:24:42Wait, so how was that gun used to shoot Darren St. Jules on this island
00:24:46If the same gun was locked in a drawer 5,000 miles away?
00:24:49I know right?
00:24:50It makes no sense
00:24:52We need to speak to Helen Dugdale
00:24:56Helen?
00:24:57If you're in there can you open the door please?
00:24:58We need to speak with you about Ashley Simms
00:25:02There's something you need to see
00:25:17I guess I want to say sorry
00:25:21I know it's not enough
00:25:22And it won't change how you feel about me but I do mean it
00:25:36I don't know why I keep doing this
00:25:40I blow everything up
00:25:43But this is why I've come here
00:25:53To get away
00:25:57Try and understand why I hurt people
00:26:03That's Ashley
00:26:04The way that I do
00:26:08She stole from me from the company
00:26:10How much?
00:26:11500,000 pounds
00:26:12Ouch
00:26:13My husband, Keith
00:26:16Dugdale's was his company
00:26:17Until he passed away at the start of the year from a heart attack
00:26:21I'm sorry to hear that
00:26:23That's when I took over the reins
00:26:26I really wanted to make it work
00:26:28And it was around that time that we had a position to fill
00:26:31When you gave the job to Miss Simms
00:26:33I knew she had a past that she'd been to prison
00:26:36But Keith always believed in giving people a second chance
00:26:39And I wanted to honour that
00:26:41What Miss Simms let you down?
00:26:43Not even a year's passed and I've already lost half a million pounds
00:26:46Did you report Ashley to the police?
00:26:49I was too embarrassed
00:26:51So I hired someone to find out where she sent the email from
00:26:55And that video she recorded
00:26:57That was sent from this island?
00:26:59Yes
00:27:00Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Darian St. Jules?
00:27:06The man I hired discovered that Darian had rented a holiday let to Ashley
00:27:10That's why I came here to try and get my money back
00:27:12I made sure our villa wasn't far from Darian's house
00:27:15So it would be easy to go and visit him
00:27:17So you were lying when you told us you didn't know Darian?
00:27:19Did you meet with him?
00:27:21Yes
00:27:22A few days ago
00:27:23He confirmed that Ashley had rented this little place he has down on the beach
00:27:28That so?
00:27:29So she was definitely here
00:27:31She'd arrived a few months ago at the start of October
00:27:35He still had all the paperwork
00:27:37But he said that she'd moved on a few days ago and he didn't know where
00:27:41So what was Darian doing turning up at your villa in the early hours yesterday?
00:27:46I don't know
00:27:48I really don't
00:27:49How much do the others know about this?
00:27:51Nothing, they don't know anything
00:27:52They think they're on a works due
00:27:54Not even your son?
00:27:55No, not even Neil
00:27:57So then the only person who knew Darian and therefore wanted him killed was you?
00:28:01No, I swear I didn't
00:28:05I can see how this looks
00:28:07But I didn't shoot him
00:28:09I don't
00:28:12I need to take this
00:28:16Commissioner
00:28:18You got something?
00:28:19Inspector
00:28:20I've searched Ashley Simms' flat and emailed you over some photographs
00:28:25I'm afraid there is little of use to your investigation
00:28:28I think she cleared out her flat before she flew to the Caribbean
00:28:31Okay
00:28:32Thanks anyway, sir
00:28:33Now, if that is everything
00:28:35I'm going to catch my train and enjoy the rest of my Christmas
00:28:39Yeah, you have a good one, sir
00:28:41And you, Inspector
00:28:42And you
00:28:43And you
00:28:52Thank you for your help, Miss Woods
00:28:54Oh, I didn't do anything really
00:28:57And you're nothing if not efficient
00:29:00So
00:29:02What are your plans for Christmas?
00:29:04I'm spending it with my daughter and her partner
00:29:07They've rented a cottage up in the, um, Yorkshire Dales
00:29:11Oh, it's lovely up there
00:29:13So, I'm told
00:29:14I-I-I better
00:29:15I'm flying solo this Christmas
00:29:18I mean, that's how it's been since Mum passed
00:29:20Just me, myself and I
00:29:22Sorry
00:29:23I really
00:29:24Oh, no, no, no
00:29:25I rather enjoy it, actually
00:29:26You know, there's no family arguments
00:29:28I can eat what I like
00:29:29Watch what I want on the telly
00:29:32Christmas alone is underrated, I say
00:29:35Indeed
00:29:36No, I really don't want to miss my train
00:29:39Oh, God
00:29:44Goodbye, Mr. Patterson
00:29:46Goodbye
00:29:47And Merry Christmas
00:29:49And a very Merry Christmas to you
00:29:51Christmas deal
00:29:55Four passengers on platform
00:29:57One
00:29:58Awaiting the three
00:29:59Fifteen
00:30:00Two
00:30:01Thieves
00:30:02Please be aware that due to
00:30:03Frost on the line
00:30:05This train is now delayed
00:30:06Please wait for further announcements
00:30:21So, immigration confirmed Ashley Sims arrived on the island two months ago
00:30:32But they have no record of her ever leaving
00:30:34So, in theory, she's still here
00:30:40Okay, Officer Rose
00:30:41I want you to check the harbours
00:30:42See if anyone matching Ashley's description was taken to one of the other islands in the last few days
00:30:46Ashley Harbour, last few days, got you
00:30:48Check the hotels, holiday rentals, guest houses on the island
00:30:51Hotels, rentals, guest houses, got you
00:30:53You need to do whatever it takes to find her, do you understand?
00:30:56Cool
00:30:57Totally getting you right now, Inspector
00:30:59I guess that means you're working Christmas Day then
00:31:01Obviously
00:31:02It's a murder investigation
00:31:03And we need to find out who did it
00:31:05Right
00:31:06Only
00:31:07That's a lot of work for Seb to do by himself over Christmas
00:31:11Well, my mother has a whole church thing going on
00:31:13And everybody else is busy, so
00:31:15It's cool
00:31:16There you go
00:31:17There you go, sorted
00:31:21Thanks, Seb
00:31:22No worries
00:31:23See you in a bit
00:31:26I'll let my parents know I won't be flying home this evening
00:31:29Appreciate it
00:31:31Ashley Sims aside
00:31:32We still don't have a scooby
00:31:33How the killer made the gun they shot Darian with
00:31:36Disappear from that villa
00:31:37Then reappear in a locked desk drawer back in the UK
00:31:40And that
00:31:41Glitzen
00:31:42What's that about?
00:31:43Unless it has nothing to do with Darian's murder, sir
00:31:45And it is just a cold
00:31:47You don't believe in coincidences
00:31:49I mean, in what circumstance does someone write the name of one of Santa's reindeer on the palm of their hand?
00:31:59Are you doing all right, sir?
00:32:01After last night
00:32:02Look, if Solomon doesn't want to get in touch, I'm cool with that
00:32:05Well
00:32:06D.S. Thomas
00:32:07I'd rather we didn't talk about it any more
00:32:08All right?

00:35:47at SM police
00:36:00Commissioner, morning. This is a surprise.
00:36:19Inspector, have you seen that video Officer Rose has put on social media?
00:36:25It's deeply inappropriate.
00:36:27Would you like another sherry, Selwyn?
00:36:31No. Thank you.
00:36:35Is that the receptionist?
00:36:39Marjorie Dolce. I'm spending Christmas Day with her.
00:36:43Well, I'm glad you two hit it off. Good for you, sir.
00:36:46It's not like that, Inspector. I got stock in Swindon. There were no trains to Leeds.
00:36:51OK.
00:36:52Look, just take that video down.
00:36:54No disrespect, sir, but it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:36:58Just sort it, Inspector.
00:37:09Yeah, I've got his bank statement in front of me.
00:37:11That's great. Could you email it over?
00:37:13I'll do that right away. Cheers.
00:37:25Literally every tree.
00:37:27Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:29Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:30Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:31Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:33Have you seen her call this number?
00:37:39All right! I'm coming!
00:37:45I've got a lead. A possible suspect for Darien St. Julesy's murder.
00:37:48I need to go and talk with them now.
00:37:50Merry Christmas, sir.
00:37:54Oh, um...
00:37:56Merry Christmas.
00:37:59I'll be right with you.
00:38:01Our financial checks show that two days ago, you wired £100,000 from this island to your bank account back in England.
00:38:19No, you didn't.
00:38:25What?
00:38:26You wanna tell us where you got that money from?
00:38:29What did you do, Liam?
00:38:31Yes, Neil. What did you do?
00:38:34I followed you.
00:38:36Why?
00:38:37You were acting so weird.
00:38:39A few days ago, when you went off by yourself.
00:38:42I knew that it had to be about the money that Ashley had taken.
00:38:45I'm sorry.
00:38:46I couldn't understand why you didn't tell me.
00:38:48And I know you were just trying to protect me, Mum.
00:38:50I was worried about you.
00:38:52I was just trying to help.
00:38:55So I waited until the guy, Darien,
00:38:58I had left.
00:39:00The door was unlocked, so I let myself in.
00:39:02There wasn't anything I could find.
00:39:04Until I found an old biscuit tin.
00:39:07It was full of money.
00:39:08And what did you think?
00:39:09When he opened this and saw £100,000 in cash inside?
00:39:13Well, I still think that it was money that belonged to the company.
00:39:16I mean, why else would this local fisherman have that much money in sterling in his house?
00:39:22And that's why you took it?
00:39:23Because it was money that Ashley had stolen from us.
00:39:25From Mum.
00:39:29And I don't want to see her lose everything.
00:39:31Oh, she'd already lost my dad.
00:39:34Sweet.
00:39:40All right.
00:39:41Okay.
00:39:43So, fast forward to the morning you're due to leave the island, yeah?
00:39:47And our victim turns up at 5.30.
00:39:50We've been trying to work out why he went there that morning.
00:39:54But what if he realised that you stole from him and came to confront you about it?
00:39:59No.
00:40:01On my life, I didn't even see him that morning.
00:40:04This aftershave.
00:40:05It's yours, right?
00:40:06Rivage Mystique.
00:40:07Yeah?
00:40:08Why?
00:40:09This is the exact same aftershave Darien was wearing.
00:40:12The morning of the murder.
00:40:14Right?
00:40:15You're not suggesting that this is evidence I shot him.
00:40:19Why would I kill someone and then spray him with my own aftershave?
00:40:23Achoo!
00:40:27Darien definitely smelt of this when we found him.
00:40:30But why?
00:40:33What if...
00:40:35There was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
00:40:37You know, a bit like a bin man.
00:40:41Yeah, but...
00:40:42What?
00:40:43Neil's right.
00:40:45It's not enough.
00:40:47What's some Christmas this is?
00:40:49Oh.
00:40:50Come here.
00:40:51Give your mum a hug.
00:40:54Oh, hey, I'm sorry.
00:40:59Oh.
00:41:00No.
00:41:01Not now, Marjorie.
00:41:03Hi, this is Helen Dugdale's phone.
00:41:04Please leave a message after the tone and I'll call you back.
00:41:07Hello, Helen.
00:41:08It's Marjorie.
00:41:09I'm phoning to wish you a Merry Christmas.
00:41:11We're about to have our lunch and I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you.
00:41:17Hope everything sorts itself out soon.
00:41:27Dinner is served.
00:41:29This looks wonderful.
00:41:38Here's to a Merry Christmas.
00:41:43Merry Christmas.
00:41:45Mmm.
00:41:51Right then.
00:41:52Tuck in.
00:41:55I would like to offer you an apology, Miss Dodds.
00:42:00Oh, Marjorie, please.
00:42:02There's really no need for an apology.
00:42:04Oh, there is.
00:42:05You've been nothing but gracious and welcoming for the last couple of days.
00:42:11While I, I've been nothing but, um, rowdy.
00:42:15Oh, no, no, I wouldn't go that far.
00:42:20Though...
00:42:22I did sense you weren't very happy.
00:42:26Is it to do with your old job?
00:42:29What makes you ask that?
00:42:31I don't know.
00:42:32It's just...
00:42:33When we first met, the way you said you were retired,
00:42:36it was like you weren't entirely comfortable with it.
00:42:39My superiors back on St. Marie,
00:42:43they tried to get rid of me
00:42:46after 50 years of doing a job I loved.
00:42:51In the end, I...
00:42:54I just walked away.
00:42:56I know what it's like.
00:42:59I'm just silly old Marjorie on reception.
00:43:02Don't even get invited to the Christmas party they're having out there.
00:43:06I'm sorry.
00:43:09And I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
00:43:17Look at us.
00:43:19Moving like this on Christmas Day.
00:43:22When you cook this feast for us,
00:43:25we should be enjoying ourselves.
00:43:28Here.
00:43:30Will you do me the pleasure?
00:43:32Well, if you insist.
00:43:33I won!
00:43:35I won!
00:43:37I won!
00:43:39Where's it gone?
00:43:40Where's it gone?
00:43:42No!
00:43:44Here it is.
00:43:46It's a tiny little sewing pit.
00:43:49I won!
00:43:51I won!
00:43:53Alright, let me check with the inspector.
00:43:56Okay, speak to you soon.
00:43:58Alright.
00:44:00Hey!
00:44:02Merry Christmas, guys!
00:44:04Merry Christmas, Seth.
00:44:05I know.
00:44:07Now, where are we at with the search for Ashley Sims?
00:44:09So, um...
00:44:11B&Bs, hotels, guest horses, nobody's heard from her.
00:44:14And no one's called in with her sighting either.
00:44:16It's like she's vanished into thin air.
00:44:18Oh, and Catherine just called.
00:44:20She said she can still squeeze us in for her Christmas Day lunch,
00:44:22but it's our last sitting, so we have to go now.
00:44:25Are we still asking ourselves,
00:44:27how was Darian shot with a bullet fired from a gun
00:44:30locked in a drawer in Swindon at the time that it happened?
00:44:33And what has Blitzen got to do with all of this?
00:44:37Are you coming, sir?
00:44:39Well, yeah, you guys go. I'll just keep working.
00:44:44Are you sure, sir?
00:44:46Wait a minute.
00:44:48What are these?
00:44:50Oh, those are the invices, sir, you know?
00:44:53For the stuff for organized help, find Ashley Sims.
00:44:56You have, um, posters, adverts for TV and radio, and, uh...
00:45:00There's over $1,000 that we owe. We can't afford this.
00:45:02Well, um...
00:45:03Well, how big do you think our budget was?
00:45:05It's only because you said whatever it takes.
00:45:07Yeah, but not this much!
00:45:09What were you thinking?
00:45:10All right, let's... let's calm it.
00:45:16Seb, why don't you head over to Catherine's
00:45:18and I'll catch up with you.
00:45:25With respect,
00:45:27he's just doing his best to help.
00:45:30And he's given up his Christmas to do it, sir.
00:45:35Look, I know the case is frustrating
00:45:37and you've got other things on your mind.
00:45:38What other things?
00:45:40Well, your brother not calling.
00:45:43What? That's not bothering me.
00:45:45It isn't.
00:45:47It isn't?
00:45:48No, it isn't!
00:45:49Yes, it is!
00:45:51Of course it is!
00:45:52And I really wish you'd just admit that,
00:45:54rather than pretending like you don't care
00:45:55when you so clearly care!
00:45:58Just don't take it out on the rest of us.
00:46:10Just don't take it out on the rest of us.
00:46:12Just don't take it out on the rest of us.
00:46:43Joyeux Noël Camille, and to little Chloe.
00:46:48Her grandmother is missing her today.
00:46:51Has she opened a present yet?
00:46:52No, not yet.
00:46:54Ah, one moment Camille.
00:46:56Yes, okay.
00:46:57Yes, see you.
00:47:04No Mervyn?
00:47:13No Mervyn.
00:47:43No Mervyn.
00:48:13I'm sorry you couldn't get to spend it with your daughter.
00:48:16It's not your fault.
00:48:17If anyone's to blame, it's the British transport system.
00:48:21Which I am told is not uncommon.
00:48:24I mean, I'd like to say you get used to it by belying.
00:48:26Tell us a minute.
00:48:29Is that the sea?
00:48:44I'm at the sea.
00:48:45Yeah.
00:48:46I'm at the shack.
00:48:48It's beautiful out here.
00:48:49It's a really clear night.
00:48:51But then all nights are like that here, aren't they?
00:48:54The moon here is a little more grey than I remember it in St. Marie.
00:49:00I'm just wondering if I made a mistake staying on in St. Marie.
00:49:11Why?
00:49:12Why?
00:49:13Because I know I'm not good when I put myself on the line.
00:49:17I feel like I'm just hanging around, waiting.
00:49:21For him.
00:49:22Your brother.
00:49:23Yeah.
00:49:24I don't think he wants to get in touch.
00:49:28I'm sorry, it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:49:29Whether I stay or go.
00:49:30It still feels like it is.
00:49:31Inspector.
00:49:32If you are not sure what to do, the only advice I can offer is that you put your trust
00:49:35in that island.
00:49:36I did.
00:49:37For most of my life.
00:49:38And in return, it delivered me true happiness.
00:49:39Ah.
00:49:40If you are not sure what to do, it still feels like it is.
00:49:45Inspector.
00:49:46If you are not sure what to do, the only advice I can offer is that you put your trust in
00:49:53that island.
00:49:55I did.
00:49:56For most of my life.
00:49:59And in return, it delivered me true happiness.
00:50:06If Saint Marie won't bring your brother to you, then perhaps it will bring you someone.
00:50:18Or something else.
00:50:21Be patient.
00:50:23Yeah, well, you know patience isn't my forte, right?
00:50:28I know.
00:50:29But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
00:50:32Might I suggest you focus on solving that case?
00:50:37Yes, you have.
00:50:40You're missed here, you know?
00:50:43Good night, Inspector.
00:50:49You'reall, you are a suspend.
00:50:50Perhaps you're booked out.
00:50:55Blitzen, why Blitzen?
00:51:25Officer Rose. Inspector. What's up?
00:51:30I wanted to come and say I'm sorry for spending all that money you don't have in your budget.
00:51:36So, I wanted to pay it back. There's $322.86 in there, which I took from my savings.
00:51:48I mean, it's all my savings, but that's cool. And if you deduct $20 from my wages each month,
00:51:54you should be paid back in about two years, I reckon.
00:52:00Officer Rose. You've got a good heart. Anyone ever tell you that?
00:52:07Well, my auntie, like, all the time, you know?
00:52:14Take this. You don't have to pay anything back. We'll find it in the budget.
00:52:20And there's no need to apologise, all right? In fact, I should apologise for blazing at you like that.
00:52:27What you did was, um, was really good work.
00:52:33Anyway, come on. I've got a new lead. Let's go and wake D.S. Thomas up.
00:52:43He can't keep doing this.
00:52:46Happy Boxing Day, D.S. Thomas.
00:52:49Listen, um, I want to apologise for losing it and ruining Christmas.
00:52:59I'll make it up to you. I promise.
00:53:03And you were right about me taking it out on you because of Solomon.
00:53:10I just really wanted it, you know?
00:53:16I'm sorry, too.
00:53:19Good morning, Sarge.
00:53:21The inspector tell you the good news yet?
00:53:24He's only going to make a big breakthrough in the case,
00:53:26which is a big relief, cos I was drawing a blank.
00:53:29You have tea?
00:53:33So I've been going through Darien St. Jules' phone records,
00:53:36and he phoned someone the day before he was murdered.
00:53:39A friend of his called Trishawn King.
00:53:42Now, he was over on Montserrat for Christmas.
00:53:45So I asked Darlene to speak with him.
00:53:47Darlene?
00:53:48Last night?
00:53:49Yeah.
00:53:50And how was she with that?
00:53:51Eh, you know, she was... she was cool with it.
00:53:55Inspector, it's Christmas Day.
00:53:57What in God's name do you think you're doing?
00:54:04Anyway, it turned out Darien feared for his life
00:54:07and was asking Trishawn where he can get hold of a gun for protection.
00:54:12He thought someone was going to kill him.
00:54:15Did he say who?
00:54:17But he did say he was caught up in something he shouldn't have,
00:54:19and get this, he thought the woman he was trying to help
00:54:22had been murdered.
00:54:24Now I'm caught up in the war.
00:54:25And now he was worried that he was going to suffer the same fate.
00:54:28Whoa, wait.
00:54:30Darien told Trishawn he thought Ashley Sims was murdered?
00:54:34But it would explain why no one's seen her the last few days.
00:54:37So then, if this is true,
00:54:39that means that whoever killed Ashley Sims
00:54:42probably also murdered Darien St. Jules.
00:54:44To silence him.
00:54:45So what we need to start looking for now is anyone who had a reason to kill Ashley Sims.
00:54:50Well, both Helen and Neil Dugdale to start with.
00:54:53Ashley stole half a million pounds from their company.
00:54:56And there's someone else as well.
00:54:59We've been looking at your phone records.
00:55:03And these, Miss Hickson, are text messages from you to Ashley Sims just before she came out here.
00:55:12You'll regret ever meeting me.
00:55:15Stay away from my boyfriend or else I'm not afraid to hurt you.
00:55:19The list goes on.
00:55:23Care to explain?
00:55:26They had a thing, right?
00:55:28Gavin and Ashley had a thing behind my back.
00:55:31Sort of.
00:55:33Sort of?
00:55:36Yeah, like, it wasn't like a real thing.
00:55:37Like, they never really got together.
00:55:39But he liked her.
00:55:42Yeah.
00:55:44God knows why.
00:55:46She was weird.
00:55:47But I think Gav liked that about her.
00:55:49And he called things off between us.
00:55:54And that's when I started warning her off.
00:55:56Guess I just got a bit carried away.
00:55:59I just...
00:56:01I just didn't want to lose him.
00:56:03And you didn't.
00:56:05Now that Ashley's conveniently disappeared, you've got Gavin to yourself now, haven't you?
00:56:09What?
00:56:11Is that what you think?
00:56:12That I killed her?
00:56:16Look, I wouldn't.
00:56:18I didn't.
00:56:20It'll be about Gavin.
00:56:22We need to tell him what we know.
00:56:24But Ashley called things off with Gav.
00:56:27Why would I kill her?
00:56:28Inspector.
00:56:30You need to hear the truth.
00:56:32What?
00:56:33And I'm afraid you're not going to get that from her.
00:56:35No disrespect, Karen.
00:56:37Yo, come on, man.
00:56:39What are you saying?
00:56:40Whatever she's told you, it's ten times worse.
00:56:43Neil, what are you saying?
00:56:44Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:56:45You've had your chance.
00:56:46Go on.
00:56:48He had a thing for Ashley.
00:56:50Is that it?
00:56:51We already know.
00:56:52No, it was more than that.
00:56:53Gavin was obsessed.
00:56:55When Ashley said they couldn't see each other anymore, he had to take time off work.
00:56:58And I've seen the posters you've been putting up.
00:56:59If Ashley's gone missing, then I'm telling you, it'll have something to do with Gavin.
00:57:05Inspector.
00:57:06Someone's just broken into the villa where Darian was shot.
00:57:13Billy.
00:57:14He had a chance for a second angle.
00:57:15What is he doing?
00:57:16He's dead.
00:57:17He's dead.
00:57:18He was never dead.
00:57:19I'm actually dead.
00:57:20He's dead.
00:57:21I'm just dead.
00:57:22He just slowed down.
00:57:24What?
00:57:55Mr. Bradbury, this doesn't look good at all.
00:58:01But then I don't think you need me to tell you that.
00:58:07You want to start by telling us what we're going to find in that pool you've just emptied?
00:58:11And we know it's not the gun used to kill Darian St. Jules,
00:58:14because that's currently sitting in a police station somewhere in Swindon.
00:58:17So what's down there?
00:58:18Why have you come back to the crime scene, Gavin? What's so important?
00:58:21Inspector! Found something!
00:58:25What is it?
00:58:26A bullet. One that's been fired.
00:58:33Why is there a bullet in the pool, Gav?
00:58:37It's like...
00:58:38Keepsake.
00:58:41Something to remember Ashley by.
00:58:43A bullet?
00:58:48There are other things that I've got of hers as well, like...
00:58:52More like normal things.
00:58:55I'm really not interested in those, funny enough.
00:58:58Ashley, she's...
00:58:59She's not like anyone I've ever met before.
00:59:02Like, it was exciting, being around her, and her life was so different to mine.
00:59:08Yeah, I hear that. The bullet.
00:59:10Yeah.
00:59:12She has a gun.
00:59:13She was looking after it as a favour for someone that she knew from prison, and she...
00:59:18Well...
00:59:19We went out to the woods one day, and she let me fire it.
00:59:24It was amazing, right?
00:59:26It was a...
00:59:26You know, like, exhilarating.
00:59:29And I went and got one of the bullets.
00:59:31You know, like I said, that I would keep it with me, to remind me of her.
00:59:33And they say romance is dead.
00:59:37So, why did it end up in the pool?
00:59:40I panicked.
00:59:42When there was that dead guy, and Neil called the police.
00:59:46I was worried that if you found it, you'd think it was me that shot him.
00:59:49So, I took it out, and I was wondering what to do, and...
00:59:53I dropped it.
00:59:56It fell in the pool.
00:59:58And the more you were sniffing around, the more I started to worry that you'd find it.
01:00:01So, I came back, and I...
01:00:03So, you loved Ashley, then?
01:00:09Yeah, I guess, yeah.
01:00:12Must have really hurt when she ended things.
01:00:17Gavin, we believe Ashley Sims was murdered on Miss Island in the last few days.
01:00:22What? No. What? If she can't be?
01:00:24I'm kind of wondering if maybe you did it.
01:00:27Me?
01:00:29Why would I kill Ashley?
01:00:30Because you couldn't have her, and it hurt like hell.
01:00:33No, no, no, no. You've got this wrong.
01:00:35I didn't kill her.
01:00:36Like, all that man.
01:00:39You seem a bit edgy, Gavin.
01:00:41Is there something you aren't telling us?
01:00:44There's nothing.
01:00:44Really, there is nothing.
01:00:54Paradise Court Hotel, please.
01:01:02What is it that he's not saying?
01:01:03Hey, this is Ashley's phone. You know what to do.
01:01:13Ashley, it's me.
01:01:15We need to talk. I'm worried about you.
01:01:17The police have been asking questions, and I think they know about us, so...
01:01:20just let me know what you want me to do, yeah?
01:01:24Please call me back.
01:01:26I love you.
01:01:27You all right, sir?
01:01:41You seem a bit tense.
01:01:42I just can't work this one out.
01:01:46I mean, we've got one potential murder victim whose body we haven't found.
01:01:50Another murder victim whose body we have found,
01:01:52but that murder weapon was locked in a desk drawer on the other side of the world when that murder took place.
01:01:58I mean, where do we even start?
01:01:59Well, sounds like you need to go get a little shoulder rub, you know?
01:02:03Release some of that tension.
01:02:05No, you all right, Officer Rose.
01:02:06This guy again.
01:02:12Listen, mate, I told you before, I'm not interested in upgrading to another phone, so stop calling me, yeah?
01:02:19Is that Mervyn Wilson?
01:02:20Yeah, it's still Mervyn Wilson, and I'm still not interested.
01:02:24It's me, Solomon, your brother.
01:02:32Are you there, Mervyn?
01:02:36Mervyn?
01:02:38Yes.
01:02:40Yes, he's here.
01:02:41Don't hang up.
01:02:54Solomon.
01:02:56It's Mervyn.
01:02:58Yeah, you should already know that.
01:03:01Look, mate, I'm sorry.
01:03:03I just wasn't expecting your call.
01:03:04Yeah, I know.
01:03:07I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but it was, you know.
01:03:12No, no, no, mate, I totally understand, yeah?
01:03:15I mean, it's a process, right?
01:03:18But, hey, you're calling now, aren't you?
01:03:21Yeah, man, it's a process.
01:03:24But I'm glad to be calling now.
01:03:29Are you still there?
01:03:30Mervyn?
01:03:32Mervyn?
01:03:33Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
01:03:38Look, Solomon, I'm really, really sorry to do this to you, and I am so glad you called
01:03:45and that we're finally speaking.
01:03:46And I really, really want us to talk again, but right now, there's something I need to
01:03:54do, yeah?
01:03:56Yeah, man, no problem.
01:03:57What's our tune?
01:03:59That was quick.
01:04:01Officer Rose, that billboard, you did that, right?
01:04:05Yes, sir, I did.
01:04:07But you should already have the invites for that.
01:04:09It's not going to cost any extra.
01:04:10No, no, no, I don't care about the cost.
01:04:11It was worth every penny.
01:04:12Come, come, look.
01:04:19You see, all along, we've been looking at Ashley's footage on phone screens and laptops, yeah?
01:04:25Well, they were too small.
01:04:28I don't understand.
01:04:30You see where Ashley is?
01:04:31This is a steal from the video she made.
01:04:34And in the background, there's a ship passing by.
01:04:36Now, before, that was just a speck, but now you've blown it up.
01:04:41Look at it.
01:04:43What about the ship?
01:04:44Look at what it's called.
01:04:48Blitzen.
01:04:50Blitzen.
01:04:51Yeah?
01:04:52Now we know.
01:04:54Oh, Officer Rose, if you were so tall, I'd kiss you.
01:04:58Why would Darian write the name of that ship on his hands?
01:05:01Well, he obviously saw the footage himself, and then, um, he saw something in it.
01:05:07But what?
01:05:14Blitzen.
01:05:15It's like she's vanished into thin air.
01:05:16Why have come here?
01:05:18I thought I was helping someone.
01:05:20You know what?
01:05:21I think I'm starting to work out what went down here.
01:05:25But I need to make a phone call.
01:05:28And you need to get onto airport security.
01:05:30Come on.
01:05:33All right, mate.
01:05:34Much appreciated.
01:05:35Cheers.
01:05:37Wow.
01:05:39What?
01:05:39Wow.
01:05:42So, that ship behind Ashley Sims, it's owned by a Scandinavian container shipping company.
01:05:48Now, we know from the information on that footage, Ashley recorded it on the 4th of October, right?
01:05:53Right.
01:05:54Well, check this.
01:05:56The Blitzen was passing by the south coast of England on the 4th of October.
01:06:00Thousands of miles from the Caribbean.
01:06:02So, Ashley recorded that video on a beach back in the UK.
01:06:06Which means she was never even here.
01:06:09Inspector, the airport just emailed over security camera footage the day Ashley Sims arrived on the island.
01:06:18Wait, she was here?
01:06:19Thank you for a wonderful Christmas, Marjorie.
01:06:23Oh, it's been lovely.
01:06:24Let me give you a hand with that.
01:06:26Oh, don't be daft.
01:06:27You don't know where anything goes.
01:06:29Then you can tell me.
01:06:30It's the least I can do.
01:06:33Living room.
01:06:34Sideboard drawer.
01:06:35Living room.
01:06:36Sideboard drawer.
01:06:41But if Ashley Sims has never been here before, why do immigration records show that she has?
01:06:46Because someone else came pretending to be Ashley, presumably on a fake passport,
01:06:51and that someone paid Darian 100k to lie and say Ashley rented his property for the past few months.
01:06:56But why would they do that?
01:06:58To misdirect and confuse anyone looking for her.
01:07:01Because they'd already killed Ashley and taken the money.
01:07:04So one of our four suspects has been here three months previously.
01:07:07Which is why we're going through this footage, because it will show who was pretending to be Ashley Sims.
01:07:14There.
01:07:15Why didn't I see that before?
01:07:17Why I've come here to try and understand why I hurt people.
01:07:21No, it was more than that.
01:07:22Gavin was obsessed.
01:07:24Of course.
01:07:25After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
01:07:28So it's got to be one of these four who shot Darian St. Jules.
01:07:30You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
01:07:35Did you hear the gunshot?
01:07:36It's like how it said, you know, the room out here, it's stronger than you used to.
01:07:40What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
01:07:44It makes perfect sense now.
01:07:46For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
01:07:47The commissioner found a gun locked in the desk drawer at Dougdale's offices back in the UK.
01:07:52We need to call the commissioner.
01:07:54The commissioner?
01:07:55Why?
01:07:55Because he's with the killer as we speak.
01:08:10Come on, sir.
01:08:12Pick up.
01:08:16And what about these ones?
01:08:18Same drawer.
01:08:19Oh.
01:08:20I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:45I said the same drawer.
01:08:47That necklace, the stone is lithmer, unique to St. Marie.
01:09:01You told me you always wanted to go to the Caribbean like you've never been.
01:09:10You were lying.
01:09:11No, no, Selwyn.
01:09:14It was you that went to St. Marie three months ago.
01:09:19If Ashley never went then, is she dead?
01:09:24Oh, I'm sorry.
01:09:26I didn't mean to.
01:09:27It just happened.
01:09:30Miss Jones.
01:09:31I think you should put the knife down, no.
01:09:43Please.
01:09:51That video she made, it wasn't in the Caribbean, was it?
01:09:57Bournemouth.
01:10:01On a Sunday, she'd gone to the seaside.
01:10:05She realised she'd made a mistake stealing that money, didn't she?
01:10:10Then she wanted to give the money back and send the video as an apology.
01:10:16I want to say sorry.
01:10:18I don't know why I keep doing this.
01:10:19Miss Sims didn't leave the country.
01:10:22I'd gone in to the office that day to deal with an order that had gone wrong.
01:10:29It wasn't my fault.
01:10:31But I was the one who had to go in and fix it.
01:10:34And then when I let myself in, I found Ashley there and I knew, I knew straight away what the money was.
01:10:42You overhear a lot when you sit at reception all day.
01:10:46I knew it was you.
01:10:48And I went to call the police.
01:10:51Wait, I'm giving the money back, Marjorie.
01:10:53Don't.
01:10:55Please.
01:10:56I'm calling the police now.
01:10:58Don't do this to me.
01:10:59You're not.
01:11:00And Ashley tried to stop me.
01:11:02I won't let you, Marjorie.
01:11:04Get off me.
01:11:05Pushed her off me and...
01:11:07And I wasn't even supposed to be in that day.
01:11:25Miss, like I told you, nobody, nobody cares for me there.
01:11:30They just take me for granted and...
01:11:33You saw the money and thought...
01:11:36Finally, you could take something back for yourself.
01:11:42All you had to do was dispose of the body.
01:11:49Where?
01:11:56In my back garden.
01:11:57And then you made a fake passport in Ashley's name.
01:12:06Oh, that wasn't hard, you know, with all the kit we've got in the office.
01:12:10You flew on that passport to St. Marie to make it look as if Miss Sims had run away to the other side of the world and rented her property there for the last few months.
01:12:23You know, I really did want to go to the Caribbean.
01:12:29It's just that I never had the chance or the money until...
01:12:34And if you were going to misdirect from what really happened here, in Swindon, where the dead body was, then the farther away, the better, and no one would realize.
01:12:49Until things started to go wrong and you received a phone call.
01:13:00You're saying Marjorie killed Ashley Sims?
01:13:10Our receptionist, that Marjorie?
01:13:12That Marjorie.
01:13:13Yes, Marjorie Dodds, the receptionist, killed Ashley Sims in England and made it look as if she ran away to the Caribbean with your 500k.
01:13:22Oh, my. I did not see that coming.
01:13:24So which one of us shot the man found in our swimming pool?
01:13:27Well, it wasn't any of you.
01:13:30But it had to be. You said so.
01:13:32No one else was here.
01:13:33Yeah, you're right. I did say that.
01:13:35But what I didn't know then was that Darian St. Jules wasn't shot at your villa.
01:13:41It just looked like he was.
01:13:43That's why no gunshot was heard, because there wasn't one.
01:13:47He'd already been shot.
01:13:48We know now from our colleague in the UK that Marjorie had paid Darian money.
01:13:58She came to the island three months ago on a forged passport and she gave him £100,000 to lie and cover if anyone ever came to the island asking after Ashley.
01:14:08She'd convinced him he was doing a favour for a very vulnerable friend of hers.
01:14:14But when you visited him a few days ago, Mrs. Dogdale, asking questions, mentioning the missing £500,000, Darian started to wonder what he'd gotten himself involved in.
01:14:24And when he'd re-watched that footage more closely, the footage of Ashley you'd shown him, as an experienced fisherman who knew the waters of St. Marie very well, something about it bothered him.
01:14:35Zooming in, he was able to read the name of the boat Blitzen.
01:14:39He knew this was not a St. Marie vessel.
01:14:42He worked out that the video of Ashley was actually shot in the UK.
01:14:48And having heard from you, Mrs. Dogdale, that Ashley went missing with £500,000 of your money, Darian started to realise that Ashley had never been to the island.
01:14:58He'd only ever met Marjorie.
01:15:00So, he phoned Miss Dodds, asking what was going on.
01:15:09We need to talk.
01:15:11Listen, Darian, you've got this all wrong.
01:15:14All throughout this case, we thought Darian's killer had to be one of you four.
01:15:20The one person we never suspected was Marjorie Dodds.
01:15:24It was all the way back in Swindon.
01:15:26Or so we thought.
01:15:27With Darian threatening to go to the police, Marjorie asked him to hang fire.
01:15:32And she would fly out here and speak to him in person.
01:15:36Marjorie was here?
01:15:37On this island?
01:15:38At the exact same time we were?
01:15:39Yeah.
01:15:39She arrived the night before Darian was shot and flew back to the UK the next morning.
01:15:43Unable to convince Darian to keep quiet and carry on with the lie, Marjorie started to grow desperate.
01:15:51Worried he'd tell the police.
01:15:53I can give you more money.
01:15:54How much?
01:15:55Just tell me and I'll give it to you.
01:15:57We know Darian was searching around for a gun, for self-protection.
01:16:02I just want you to leave.
01:16:05Now!
01:16:06He never expected Marjorie would use it against him.
01:16:10After shooting Darian, Marjorie left and headed for the airport.
01:16:25Before getting back on the plane, arriving at Dugdale's offices just in time to meet with our very own Commissioner Patterson.
01:16:31Well, if Marjorie shot Darian at his house, how did he end up at our villa?
01:16:37Marjorie thought she'd killed him.
01:16:39But what she didn't know when she left Darian's place was that he was still alive.
01:16:47It was the fact that he smelled so strongly of someone else's aftershave that helped us work it out.
01:16:52Neil's aftershave, in fact.
01:16:54We thought it was there to cover up another smell that we now know was antiseptic.
01:17:01The stuff used to clean up a wound.
01:17:03Because as soon as Marjorie quit the scene, Darian regained consciousness and patched himself up.
01:17:09As far as he was concerned, the bullet was just lodged in his shoulder.
01:17:12It wasn't life-threatening.
01:17:14So he put on a fresh T-shirt and headed off for the hospital to get it properly seen to.
01:17:18But on the way, it passed your villa, which was just half a mile down the road.
01:17:24And I think Darian intended to alert you to what had gone down.
01:17:28He stopped here to tell you the truth about Ashley and to warn you about what Marjorie had done.
01:17:34That's why he came here that morning.
01:17:36To tell you what your colleague had done to Ashley and in turn to him.
01:17:40To make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
01:17:44But what Darian didn't know was that his wound was worse than he thought.
01:17:48And he was bleeding internally.
01:17:51And so despite his brave effort to alert you all to the truth, he died.
01:17:56Here in your villa.
01:17:59But then someone proceeded to stage the scene as if he was shot in this villa.
01:18:07Didn't you, Mr. Bradbury?
01:18:11Me? What?
01:18:12We don't know. Of course not. No.
01:18:15And you did it because Ashley told you to.
01:18:17You're crazy.
01:18:19Ashley, I don't know what you're talking about.
01:18:23Let me have your phone.
01:18:28Gavin, please.
01:18:32It's OK.
01:18:35Unlock it.
01:18:35Bingo.
01:18:50Bingo.
01:18:50Text messages seemingly from Ashley Sims from the moment she disappeared right up to today.
01:18:55But all of these were sent by Marjorie Dodds.
01:19:02Who kept Ashley's phone after she killed her.
01:19:04No, you know, you're wrong.
01:19:06You've been texting her?
01:19:07No.
01:19:07This whole time?
01:19:08Karen, I'm sorry.
01:19:09Look, look.
01:19:10No, no.
01:19:10Karen!
01:19:13And here, proof of what happened.
01:19:15Messages exchanged on the morning of Darian's death.
01:19:17Because despite what you told us, Gavin, you were actually the first to discover Darian's body.
01:19:25You knew who Darian was because Ashley had told you all about him.
01:19:30And so you contacted Ashley.
01:19:32Left a message telling her that Darian had turned up to the villa and died.
01:19:36And asking her what was going on.
01:19:38A few minutes later, she, or rather, Marjorie, texted back.
01:19:45See, Marjorie realized that if the police were called and found Darian with his wound patched up,
01:19:51they'd know he was shot somewhere else.
01:19:53And the trail would lead right back to her.
01:19:56So, she had to do two things.
01:19:59First, she texted you with instructions.
01:20:01Second, she had to clear up the real scene of the crime.
01:20:04Marjorie's confessed to her colleague in the UK that she quickly doubled back from the airport
01:20:08and returned to Darian's house before disposing of the gun and the t-shirt he was wearing when she shot him.
01:20:13Meanwhile, you moved the body outside to the swimming pool.
01:20:16There's also a mention here of that bullet you kept as a memento
01:20:19in the text messages you sent to Ashley.
01:20:22Well, that's how Marjorie knew.
01:20:24So, as Ashley, she asked you to remove the bullet she killed Darian with
01:20:28and replace it with the one she knew you had.
01:20:31However, in your haste, you must have dropped the bullet you extracted into the swimming pool.
01:20:40But you knew you could come back and retrieve it later.
01:20:43Once you switched the bullets, the heartbeat was over.
01:20:47You disposed of the dressing.
01:20:51Then made a hole in his t-shirt and let the blood around the wound soak in.
01:20:56So, now, it looked like Darian had been shot after he entered the villa, not before.
01:21:02The last problem you had was getting rid of that antiseptic smell.
01:21:06Because that stuff lingers, right?
01:21:08And if the police noticed it, we'd certainly be asking who cleaned up the wound and why.
01:21:13So, you ran into the bathroom and got hold of some aftershave, nails and doused him in it.
01:21:18So, now all you had to do was pretend to be asleep when Mrs. Dogdale discovered the body.
01:21:24Gavin, we need to get to the airport.
01:21:27You've got to pack.
01:21:28Leaving us without a scooby, as to how a man was shot with a gun that was locked in a desk drawer 5,000 miles away in a Swindon warehouse.
01:21:37In the end, it wasn't just the police that Marjorie Dodds had duped.
01:21:41It was you as well, Gavin.
01:21:42You see, you thought you were helping the woman you loved.
01:21:45A woman you'd do anything for when you were actually helping her killer.
01:21:50Officer Rose.
01:22:07Mr. Bradbury, I'm arresting on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
01:22:11You don't need to say anything.
01:22:12But it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question, something you later rely on in court.
01:22:17Anything you do say may be used as evidence.
01:22:19I need to know, why did you come to the train station that night and invite me into your home?
01:22:27Why take that risk?
01:22:30Because I didn't want to spend Christmas on my own again.
01:22:39I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:22:41I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:22:49Inspector.
01:22:50Inspector.
01:22:51Inspector.
01:22:55Commissioner.
01:22:56The arrest has been made.
01:22:59I'm pleased to see.
01:23:00Same here.
01:23:01We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:23:04Oh, and are you doing all right?
01:23:06Me?
01:23:07Yes, of course.
01:23:09I'm fine.
01:23:10Merry Christmas, sir.
01:23:11I'm doing fine.
01:23:21We regret to announce that the 10-15 to Leeds will be delayed due to a shortage of train staff.
01:23:37Chief Commissioner, it's Selwyn Patterson.
01:23:41And to you, and apologies for calling you during the holidays.
01:23:47But I wanted to know if you found my replacement as yet.
01:23:57I see. I've been doing some thinking.
01:24:01And I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the road.
01:24:09If it's still vacant.
01:24:12I know it's been a long time since I've been searching.
01:24:20Since I've been searching to find you.
01:24:25The thing is, Harry, the classic Christmas Day Sunday roast lunch is all well and good.
01:24:31But when push comes to shove, the real culinary high point is the turkey and stuffing sarni.
01:24:39Because my friend, in my humble opinion, it is one of the greatest delicacies known to mankind.
01:24:46Like bacon and eggs?
01:24:50RDS Thomas, you're just in time. Come in. Come in.
01:24:55Grab those for me, would you?
01:24:56So, uh, what is this about, sir?
01:25:04I promised I'd make up for spoiling Christmas Day.
01:25:07And that is exactly what I'm doing.
01:25:09Come on.
01:25:09I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
01:25:16My front room on the beach.
01:25:18Is that a good idea, do you think?
01:25:21Yeah, why not?
01:25:22So we're watching something.
01:25:24We certainly are, DS Thomas.
01:25:25And not the...
01:25:26The great escape. Yeah.
01:25:31Beers and butties, everyone.
01:25:32And thank you to our local mayor for letting me have the leftovers from the bar.
01:25:38And you've put it all between two slices of bread?
01:25:42Yeah.
01:25:43How English.
01:25:46Excited for this film, Inspector. Sounds dope.
01:25:49Um, sir.
01:25:54Is this really your favourite thing about Christmas?
01:25:57Well, yeah.
01:25:59When I was a little boy, growing up,
01:26:01most times,
01:26:03I didn't know where I was going to end up spending Christmas, right?
01:26:06With a foster family or in a care home.
01:26:11But wherever I ended up,
01:26:13the one constant every Christmas was this film.
01:26:18And it was a comfort to me.
01:26:21I bet that little boy
01:26:22never thought he'd be here in the Carribeer.
01:26:26All these years later,
01:26:29watching that same film,
01:26:32surrounded by his friends.
01:26:38He certainly didn't care for him.
01:26:40So, um...
01:26:44To him.
01:26:49OK, then.
01:26:52Showtime.
01:26:52Yeah.
01:26:53Look, uh...
01:27:04Just give me a few minutes, yeah?
01:27:07Yeah?
01:27:07Solomon, how you doing, man?
01:27:15What do you think this morning is?
01:27:17You got my message, yeah?
01:27:19Um, look...
01:27:21I'm sorry I had to cut you off like that before, yeah?
01:27:25It was just an emergency at work I had to deal with.
01:27:28So, how's your Christmas been?
01:27:32Yeah?
01:27:34Good.
01:27:34Mine, um...
01:27:38Yeah, yeah, it's been really good.
01:27:44Look, um...
01:27:46I don't know how you feel about this, but...
01:27:49I was wondering if you wanted to meet up sometime.
01:27:55Yeah?
01:27:59Yeah, I definitely would like to.
