43:44But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
43:49My parents were both junior hockey coaches.
43:52And they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years old.
43:59Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
44:02Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas Scholarships existed.
44:06I didn't have anybody else to help me.
44:11I had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge hole in my heart.
44:17St. Thomas filled it with hope, the hope of a new family.
44:24Things weren't always easy.
44:25Things weren't always easy.
44:27You know, they never are for anybody.
44:29But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
44:33First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the Admirals.
44:38And I never looked back, because I never had to.
44:46The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today, hockey gave it to
44:54me.
44:55And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
44:59So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight, and for
45:04supporting this cause, because it's not just a scholarship.
