00:26Sacramento, California
00:28It's really a town rich in Strongman history
00:32It was here four years ago that Tom Stoltman won his first ever title
00:36It was here the following year that his rival, Mitchell Hooper, announced himself on the Strongman stage
00:42Well, as the pair continue their dusty duel, what will Sacktown hold this year?
00:46Tom's already shown what he can produce, now it's the turn of the moose
00:51In 2024, I won every Strongman show on the professional circuit bar World's Strongest Man
01:01I've won seven of the last seven shows and ten of the last eleven shows
01:09I've been on a tear that I can't really comprehend
01:13Other people have referred to me as the greatest Strongman of all time
01:16And one day I might sit back and reflect on where I might be
01:19Coming out on top of World's Strongest Man 2025 would only add to that legacy
01:24Basically I feel great, I feel ready to win the competition
01:34I'm in the best physical shape of my life
01:36So it's going to be a tall task to be here
01:38Well, that's the moose and this is the beast, Eddie Hall
01:46Eddie, two years ago, Mitchell took Tom's title away
01:50Can he do it again?
01:51I think you can, you've got to look what Mitch has done
01:54In the last eleven months alone, he's won seven international Strongman events
01:59He's looking absolutely on fire
02:01Bang in form, you've also got in this group
02:03The men who finished fourth and sixth in last year's final
02:06That's Matt, Raggin, Wes, Tewinski
02:08And another man who's not been with us before at World's Strongest Man
02:10But who is potentially a real contender
02:12Paddy Haynes
02:13Paddy, the real Paddy Haynes
02:15Just came second at Europe's Strongest Man
02:17And you've got to think
02:18If you're the top two in Europe
02:20You've got to be the top ten in the world
02:22Well, that's the plan for Paddy
02:23Let's find out then
02:24Heat two gets underway now
02:25As we join Colin Bryce and Daddy Wallace
02:28Well, thank you, James
02:30Thank you, Eddie
02:31Here we go then, Colin
02:32Who do we have?
02:33What a stacked lineup it is
02:35And we have another moose
02:37Canada's Wes Dawinski
02:39A finalist last year
02:40From Britain, the pride of Banbury
02:43Paddy Haynes
02:44No doubt about it
02:46Mitchell Hooper is the man to beat
02:49Phenomenal athlete and WSM winner
02:52And you've heard from Colin Bryce
02:53We have a new Bryce
02:55Big Bryce
02:56Six foot five and four hundred pounds
02:58And rounding off the group is Matt Raggin
03:00Who finished fourth last year in the final
03:02Safely through to the final already
03:04Three-time World's Strongest Man
03:05Tom Stoltman
03:06And for the first time
03:08Eddie Williams of Australia
03:10So event one
03:11The loading medley Colin
03:13Yes indeed
03:14It's a sandbag fest
03:16For the first event here
03:17They have to load them into this Cybertruck
03:20We'll begin with the man they call
03:22The dark horse
03:24Paddy Haynes
03:26Paddy the real baddy Haynes
03:27It's his debut this year
03:32Lovely jump on him
03:34He's quite an athlete Paddy
03:35In lane number two
03:37The former SBD world's strongest man
03:40Representing Canada
03:42The man to beat
03:43Mitchell Hooper
03:44Mitchell Hooper
03:45Incredible strong man
03:47Not afraid to let us know it either
03:50No he isn't
03:52No he knows how good he is
03:53And he was very thrilled to be up against
03:55Paddy Haynes in this event
03:56Because Paddy
03:57Is one of the quickest men on the circuit
04:00And Hooper can just keep pace with him
04:03And he'll know that he's done a great time
04:05Well the horse and the moose
04:08Pretty much neck and neck
04:10And he is fast Paddy Haynes
04:14Hooper's actually just ahead of him here
04:16This is a really good time
04:17And let's not forget
04:18This isn't just about becoming
04:20Top two in your heat
04:21And making it to the final
04:22It's also about
04:24How the others do in their heats
04:26And how your performance
04:27Matches up against them
04:28Because it will count towards the final
04:31If you make it
04:32Well that's fast from Mitchell Hooper
04:34And he nearly packed himself in there
04:37Paddy Haynes
04:3841.26
04:40Let's hear it from Paddy Haynes
04:42He enjoyed that didn't he
04:43Four in 41.26
04:47And with the fastest time of the day
04:50Mitchell Hooper
04:51Four sunbags in 38.60
04:53Let's hear it from Mitchell Hooper
04:55That is one tenth of a second quicker than Tom Stoltman
04:59Because it matters
05:01That will count towards the final
05:03Assuming he makes it there
05:04Assuming he makes it there
05:05But that's a great time indeed
05:10In lane one
05:11So now the turn of Matthew Ragd from New Zealand
05:13Matthew Ragd
05:14Third time here
05:18Making fourth in the final last year
05:20So close to being on the podium
05:22Representing Canada
05:24Taking on
05:25Wetty Dawinski
05:26Dawinski
05:28Stable mate of the moose
05:31Coached by
05:32J.F. Caron
05:34There's so many who come out of J.F. Caron's
05:37Circuit
05:38And he's a
05:39Tremendous athlete
05:40Made the final last year
05:41Sixth in his debut
05:43Who knows how far he could go this year
05:45But we've got two WSM finalists from last year
05:48Going
05:49We've just seen Hooper
05:50This is a stacked heat no doubt
05:53This is fast from Dawinski
05:54He's been
05:56Recovering
05:57From a few injuries
05:58He's been battling his way back
06:01Randy Ragd did a great pick up there
06:02He was behind Dawinski
06:03Going into the pick up
06:04And he managed to load it first
06:06Now then
06:08If you look
06:09He's doing it
06:10Pick and then turn
06:11Which is a bit of a gamble
06:13This means you take a couple less steps
06:16Saves you a little time
06:17If you can do it
06:18He's done it
06:19Well look at that
06:20From Matt Ragd
06:23Left Dawinski standing there
06:28Well you've got to gamble
06:30When you're this close to each other
06:32In terms of performance
06:34It's paid off
06:35In a time of 49.14
06:37It's a four in 49.14 for Dawinski
06:41Puts him in fourth so far
06:44A fast time of course
06:45For Matt Ragd
06:46Four in 43.79
06:49Wow that's a great time
06:51But
06:52That's tough to take third with that
06:54Paddy Haynes and Mitch were so good
06:58So the fastest moose in the west
06:59Mitchell Hooper holds the lead
07:01Still to come though
07:03Is Big Bryce Johnson
07:05He's a massive man
07:06But can he move?
07:07We'll find out when we return
07:08On the SPD
07:09World's Strongest Man
07:10Welcome back to the SPD
07:23World's Strongest Man
07:24It's the opening event for Group 2
07:25The Loading Medley
07:26Last man to go
07:28Is the former Dallas Cowboy
07:29Big Bryce Johnson
07:31Over to Little Bryce
07:32With Danny Wallace
07:34Well thank you James
07:35And yes we continue with
07:36Bryce Johnson
07:37From Wisconsin in America
07:40Johnson!
07:41We've had a mouse infestation here at World's recently
07:46And this is the best solution we could come up with
07:51To attract them into the audience
07:55So Johnson
07:56Who's from the Dairyland
07:59The Dairyland
08:00Where
08:01They call the
08:02The fans of the football team
08:03The Cheeseheads
08:04That's what that was
08:06He's making light work
08:07Of these
08:08Sandbags
08:09So far
08:12He's a big man
08:13And there's a lot of running to be done here
08:16Interesting to see just how his fitness is
08:19First World's Strongest Man
08:21First event
08:22And
08:23He's shifting along here
08:24He's up against some really quick men though
08:27With the likes of Hooper
08:28And Paddy Haynes
08:29And Wagg did a great time
08:30And a fumble
08:31Oh no!
08:33It is a fumble
08:35From Big Bryce
08:38There's heat beating down on him as well
08:40The addition of the gloves
08:43But in it goes
08:46Well the time's taken when his hands are off
08:47There's Magnus Fair Magnussen
08:49The head ref
08:51Would have been taking the time
08:53And look at that fumble
08:54That cost him three, four, five seconds
08:55Maybe more
08:57Let's hear it for Bryce Johnson
09:00Well all four
09:0251.83
09:04Cheesy but not easy for Johnson then
09:07In event one
09:08Paddy Haynes making a great start
09:09But Mitchell Hooper top
09:11Three seconds clear
09:12And faster two
09:13Than Tom Stoltman in group one
09:14The moose is with Michelle Akerley
09:16Well done Mitch
09:17Starting off strong with the first event
09:19A tenth of a second faster than Tom Stoltman
09:23Just how important is that first win?
09:25Yeah well look
09:26Now that the heat counts towards the finals
09:28That matters
09:29And that's a good thing
09:30Because it means we're all going to have to put in full efforts
09:32Through ten events
09:33If you're lucky enough to make the finals
09:34So it means a lot to get off to a good start
09:36You shake off the nerves
09:37And now it's just another strongman show
09:39Be fair to say in the last twelve months
09:41You've had a stellar year
09:43Seven consecutive wins
09:44With international competitions
09:47What does that do to your confidence levels?
09:49Does that give you a sense of calm
09:51Or invincibility even?
09:53I wouldn't go so far as invincibility
09:55But certainly the confidence in myself
09:56That no one else can have in themselves
09:58And ultimately
09:59If I get nervous or concerned about an event
10:00I can think
10:02I have such a strong history
10:03Of being consistently the best one
10:05In recent times
10:06So I can lean on that
10:07And other people can't
10:08They have to prove it to themselves
10:09At the same time
10:10They're proving it to everyone else
10:11I've already proved it to myself
10:12I've already proved it to everyone else
10:13It's just time to repeat
10:15Deadlift next
10:16How are you feeling?
10:17Great
10:18Deadlift for reps haven't been beaten
10:19In about eighteen months
10:20So it should be another good result
10:21Good luck
10:22Thank you
10:24Well Mitchell Hooper
10:25Top of the pile after one event
10:26But will it be another five points in the bag
10:29As we move on to event two
10:32It is the deadlift for reps
10:34And there are 350 kilos on the bar
10:36And 60 seconds on the clock
10:38For as many reps as possible
10:41Hooper competing here remember
10:42Not only with this group
10:43But with our first two finalists
10:44Stoltman and Williams
10:45Who managed seven reps back in group one
10:48Well our first man out today
10:50American debutant Bryce Johnson
10:52Bounced back from event one's disappointment
10:54To match that seven
10:55With a mighty display of static strength
10:57Could he take the win here?
10:59Let's find out
11:00For Colin and Danny
11:02Well thank you
11:04And Matt Rag
11:06I was going to say warming up
11:07But he looks boiling already
11:12And calm
11:14Again not cool
11:15But collected
11:16Wesley Dowinski
11:17I think Matt Rag
11:22Will be putting a lot of pressure on himself here
11:24He's a great deadlifter
11:26Especially for reps
11:27Leaves the towel on his head
11:30Get a little bit of shade
11:32It is nearly a hundred degrees here in Sacramento
11:36So not exactly great deadlifting weather
11:39Weather
11:43What is good deadlifting weather?
11:44I don't know
11:45I was just thinking that as I said it Danny
11:47Well Dowinski
11:48Pulling ahead
11:49Onto five now
11:51Probably colder to shed some heat
11:53Dowinski
11:54Wow this is impressive
11:56I thought Rag
11:57Would be the one who would be making the running here
12:00Not at all
12:01Dowinski for seven
12:03Oh yes he locks it out
12:06Well what more can Dowinski give us?
12:10Oh Rag
12:12Slow and steady is the game
12:14If he can get an eighth
12:18Not that much time left though
12:20Five seconds to go
12:21He's got to lock it out
12:23He's not locked it out yet
12:24No!
12:25Well that was so close there
12:28I think you'd have been forgiven as a referee for giving that
12:31But he was still soft
12:33And you can lock it out
12:34You can hold it
12:35And he couldn't
12:37We're currently tying for first with seven
12:38With seven
12:39Matt Rag
12:44What an effort that last one was
12:46That eighth but
12:48No
12:49He got pulled back down
12:50You can tell that
12:52Is not a good rep
12:55And Dowinski there
12:57Gave it his all
12:58Yeah much quicker
13:00Yeah much quicker Dowinski
13:01Surprisingly so
13:03Seven seems to be the mark isn't it?
13:06Same as Big Bryce
13:08And in group one of course
13:09Tom Stoltman
13:10Managed seven
13:12And Eddie Williams
13:13Eddie Williams as well
13:15So if one man
13:17Can take his to eight
13:19Might as well be Mitchell Hooper
13:20Mitchell Hooper
13:22And nipping at his heels
13:24Banbury's Paddy Haynes
13:26Yeah Paddy doesn't look like he's the strongest man in the world necessarily
13:30He's not carrying any excess weight that's for sure
13:33But he's a great dead lifter
13:34And a former long distance runner
13:38So was Mitchell Hooper
13:39He used to run marathons
13:41Surprisingly
13:42We're not playing top drums here
13:43I'm just saying
13:44I'm just saying
13:45A little bit of colour
13:48Well, fast start from Hooper
13:52You can see Paddy's got very long arms
13:54That's a big assistance in this kind of thing
13:56They're getting longer by the second
13:58Hooper seems rather deliberate
13:59A little bit shaky
14:01At six
14:02Paddy's on six
14:03Going for seven
14:05There's the magic number
14:09I'm not sure Hooper is going to take the win here
14:12He seemed pretty confident coming into this
14:14He's not a man weighed down by self-doubt
14:18That's true
14:20There it is
14:21Number eight
14:23No!
14:24Came out of his grip
14:25But what about Haynes?
14:27This could be a great moment
14:29Just hanging on by his fingertips
14:32He's done it!
14:34Oh, but at what cost?
14:36That great performance there from Paddy Haynes
14:39Got a bit of concern here
14:40Well, Mitchell's going to be unhappy with that
14:44What happened there?
14:45It came out of his grip and he had straps on
14:46That's very unusual
14:50A little bit of oxygen
14:52Should get him back on his feet
14:56He'll be very happy with that
14:58That's an event win
15:00At World's Strongest Man
15:01In his debut
15:02Where's he come from, you know?
15:04I mean, Banbury
15:06But...
15:07I mean, on the seat
15:11Certainly gave it his all
15:13And he has risen
15:15Paddy Haynes
15:16The winner
15:18Eight reps
15:19Finishes first
15:21Paddy Haynes
15:25This is a real childhood ambition
15:26Realised as his girlfriend Daisy
15:29Who's wanted this
15:30To appear here
15:31Since he was a kid
15:32And now he's beaten Hooper
15:34Yes, Moose's deadlift winning streak
15:37Set firmly back to zero
15:38By Britain's Paddy Haynes
15:40What a way to claim your first ever event win
15:42At World's Strongest Man
15:43Paddy, that was very impressive
15:46First time at World's Strongest Man
15:48First win
15:49Well done
15:50Thank you so much, yeah
15:52I had to dig in for that one
15:53And it meant a lot
15:54So... to come out
15:55I had no idea how many Mitch had done as well
15:56Beside me
15:57So...
15:58I was just pulling for my life
15:59I left nothing out there
16:00Well, you cannot underestimate
16:01Just how difficult this event is
16:03I mean, we saw you took a tumble
16:05Yeah
16:06At the end there
16:07Are you doing okay?
16:08Yeah, it was just...
16:09Equipment
16:10I think my suit was probably a little bit too tight
16:11Because the bar almost sits lower as well
16:13So it's just...
16:14It's the most awkward setup that ever
16:16Like, it's so difficult
16:17So...
16:18I think on a bar and plates
16:19I'd probably be good for like three...
16:20For ten reps
16:21It's just different gravy out here
16:22In the...
16:23California sun as well
16:24It's...
16:25It's tough
16:26And for you in this group
16:27Up against a former World's Strongest Man
16:30Mitchell Hooper
16:32How did that feel to you?
16:33You know, going head to head?
16:34Yeah, it's really cool
16:35I've been...
16:36I've been unlucky enough
16:37To have to go against Mitch a few times now
16:39You get used to it
16:40It's a...
16:41I love coming in as an underdog
16:42It's what I live for
16:43And...
16:44Yeah, just...
16:45Just really pleased to be holding my own
16:46World's Strongest Man
16:47It's absolutely crazy to me
16:48You absolutely are
16:49Is this giving you the...
16:50The confidence, the pep and the step
16:52For the next event?
16:53Absolutely, yeah
16:54The next event's probably my worst event on paper
16:56So for me, I just need to get in
16:58And...
16:59And minimize the damage basically
17:00But...
17:01I'm in a really good spot guys
17:02I just need to keep...
17:03Keep working hard
17:04Not letting my foot off the gas
17:05And just keep going
17:06Keep up, well done Paddy
17:07Thank you so much, cheers
17:09It is a good spot
17:10Paddy has now moved to the top of group 2
17:12One and a half points ahead of former champion
17:15Mitchell Hooper
17:16A happy Paddy Haynes for now
17:19But ahead of him on the SPD World's Strongest Man
17:22Is one of the hardest tests of all
17:24The overhead medley
17:25Right behind him
17:26One of the hardest men to beat
17:28Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man
17:37In Sacramento, California
17:39Next up for group 2
17:41It's the overhead medley
17:43A tough one this
17:44A test of pressing power
17:45Dumbbell, log, circus barbell and axle
17:48With just 75 seconds to complete a combined 7 reps
17:52Once again it was Big Bryce Johnson out first
17:56The former Dallas Cowboy raising a cheer
18:00Hosting a score of 6 reps in just over 65 seconds
18:04An impressive display
18:07To see how our remaining 4 men get on
18:09It's over to Colin Bryce and Danny Wallace
18:11Well thank you James
18:21Wesley Dawinski
18:23For Johnson
18:24We move to Wes Dawinski
18:30The Rat is in New Zealand
18:32The Kiwi Matthew Rag
18:34We talked early didn't we about Paddy Haynes being a huge childhood fan
18:44Of World's Strongest Man Dawinski
18:46He actually has a dog named after our head referee
18:50Magnus
18:52Magnus
18:53So good they named him twice
18:55Magnus Van Magnussen
18:56Four times World's Strongest Man
18:58That's been the far side at the moment
19:01And on the near side, Dave Warner
19:03There's that
19:06Dawinski
19:07Wow that was impressive
19:08Just rolled it out
19:09Wow
19:10Goodness me
19:11A straight lift
19:12I was about to say top that Matt Rag
19:14And he did
19:15Well Rag moves ahead
19:18With an elegant leap
19:20That was really impressive
19:22Now these guys aren't so used to these circus barbells
19:27Very wide grip there for Matt Rag
19:30Must make it
19:32Making it difficult to get his elbows under it
19:35He does eventually
19:37Thick bars as well
19:41There's not much bend on them
19:43Ooh, Dawinski gets under it
19:45Has he got anything left to hit it?
19:47Yes!
19:48Yes!
19:49Oh, more than enough
19:53Five seconds
19:54Well the clean phase of this is proving to be very difficult for Rag especially
19:58Did he manage to get one in the end there?
20:01I don't think he did
20:02Well Dawinski did
20:04And it seems to have caused him some discomfort
20:08Matthew Rag manages four in 31.07
20:11So quick in the log
20:15So good there
20:17Dawinski manages five
20:21One minute and five
20:23For Wesley Dawinski
20:25He did it for Magnus
20:26The dog
20:27Indeed
20:28He managed to get one
20:29With his circus barbell
20:30It's so awkward
20:31Remember the first heat though
20:32Tom Stoltman
20:33He did all of them
20:34Representing Canada
20:35The former
20:36Well Mitchell Hooper
20:37He's a massive favourite here
20:38Holds the world record for the axle
20:39At 218 kilos
20:40Yeah, if he gets to that last implement I don't see him having problems
20:59And Paddy Haynes
21:01Bit of an unknown quantity with these
21:03Though, he said it earlier, this is not his best event
21:07He's not a tremendous presser
21:09Not by these standards anyway
21:11His first 90 kilo dumbbell
21:13He's very athletic
21:14Shouldn't have too much problem with this
21:16He can really get his legs into it
21:18There we go
21:19Good catch
21:20You don't even need to press it
21:22If you're explosive enough
21:24The log for Hooper
21:26He's not rushing it Hooper
21:29That's interesting
21:30I thought he might be attacking it like Matt Rag did
21:32Just a bit quicker
21:34A little rhythm there
21:36Paddy onto the log
21:39How's Hooper going to handle this circus bar belt?
21:43I don't know he's having touched one before
21:45But that was pretty easy
21:46One more of these
21:50And he might be in line to beat what Stoltman managed
21:55Which was 56.95
21:57We know how good he is at this axle
21:59Just one rep at this is all you need
22:01And you're right
22:02He's got plenty of time here
22:03He's had plenty of time
22:06It's tight
22:08He hasn't done it
22:09He hasn't locked it out yet
22:10Well
22:12Has he made a mistake here?
22:15Well he's done enough to win this heat anyway
22:18Oh!
22:19Getting that rep was massive for Paddy
22:21But did he drop it on his foot?
22:23He said this was his worst event
22:25That'll get him third
22:27Just behind Bryce
22:28Put your hands together for Paddy Haynes
22:30This is huge for Paddy Haynes
22:32And Mitchell Hooper
22:33Not such a bad presser after all
22:35Absolutely
22:37He's excelled at his strengths
22:40And
22:41Well he's not lost too many points here on his weakness
22:43Great stuff
22:44The winner of the overhead medley
22:46With seven objects
22:48In a time of 59.74
22:51Let's hear it
22:52From Mitchell Hooper
22:54Well it was very good
22:57He'll be thinking it wasn't quite good enough though
23:01Gosh he had it overhead with time to spare
23:03But
23:04Struggled so badly to lock it out
23:08A rare Mitch glitch
23:12Well it might be a mild misfire for the Moose
23:15But still good enough to take first in his heat
23:17Ahead of Bryce Johnson in second
23:19Paddy getting third
23:24Top two looking good after three events in heat two
23:29No surprise to see Mitchell Hooper there in top spot
23:31But how about Paddy Haynes only half a point behind?
23:34Yeah Paddy's doing amazing beating Mitchell Hooper in the deadlift
23:37Mitchell Hooper as of now
23:39Is the second best deadlifter on the planet
23:41That's a fact
23:42So for Paddy to beat him
23:44Incredible
23:45What do you make of Mitchell's performances so far?
23:46We know he came into the competition in great form
23:48But has he looked his usual flawless best?
23:51He's not
23:52I mean the deadlift was definitely down for him
23:54And then you look at the overhead medley
23:55That last implement, the axle
23:57It just took that extra second to sort of get his balance
24:00And even though he won the event
24:02It's going to cost him overall
24:03Because it didn't beat Tom in the previous group
24:05So you've got to look at the points going into the final
24:07He needs to keep on top of things
24:09Yeah Tom Stoltman back in heat one
24:11Posted the fastest time on the overhead medley
24:13And he also posted the fastest time on our next event
24:16The Titans Toss
24:17Let's see how Mitchell matches up to that
24:19As we rejoin Colin and Danny
24:21Yes
24:22Thank you very much James
24:23We move on to this event
24:25The Titans Toss
24:27I'm not sure how many meetings were had about
24:30What to name this
24:32But we must just accept it
24:34Matthew Rag
24:36Well he was first up wasn't he?
24:38In the aptly named Titans Toss
24:40And 10 sacks
24:42Each one weighing 14kg
24:44Getting further and further away
24:46Matt managed 9 in 32.22 seconds
24:50So he's set the standard
24:53Representing Canada
24:55Now
24:56Wesley Dowinski
24:57Looking to obliterate
24:58That time
24:59Wesley Dowinski
25:01Damasio's world's strongest man final
25:03Of course he broke the world record in cake tossing
25:06Paddy Haynes
25:09Paddy Haynes
25:10And against him
25:13There's a great deadlifter Paddy
25:16So normally
25:18That equals
25:19He's very good at throwing as well
25:21Now then
25:23And he's first to the sack
25:26And off it goes
25:27These first ones
25:29So far haven't been a problem for anybody
25:31anybody each one getting a each pair getting a meter further away starting at seven the last
25:37one though found at 12 meters well eight hit the upright there and that one went under
25:45and another doesn't make it for haynes he's on six dowinski now hitting the upright one two
25:52there's tenth oh no i don't think it went over did it no right four marks for style what an effort
26:01tom stoltman did get all ten over remember oh didn't go over either last one here for haynes
26:09i think this is uh pretty unlikely it's even further away
26:14well a good effort and really a first try at this veins
26:18and wesley dowinski yeah no kidding first time for everyone at the titans toss
26:25to winski so close six in 18.72 for paddy haynes
26:34but bettering that of course the champion of this kind of event dowinski managed nine just shy of 30
26:42seconds when he delivered he was expected to didn't quite get the 10th let's have a look at that one
26:50again look at the angle he had to throw it at to get the right trajectory wow ended up on the floor
26:58but he gave it everything and he had to he's five and a half points behind paddy he's a big result here
27:04big bryce johnson next to take this on
27:13against the ever confident mitchell hooper
27:18how will he do we've seen him glitching slightly as i mentioned the old mitch glitch
27:22it's maybe not the mitch we've seen over the last seven internationals that's for sure where he's won
27:30every one of them almost at a canter at times he is very good at throwing but he needs to put in a
27:38solid performance here he's only just ahead of paddy haynes the overall scores big price
27:43it's slower didn't manage that one he's got plenty of power though oh hooper immediately rectifying
27:51his technique adding a little extra power look at the flatness of uh big bryces
28:00he's so tall he's almost launching them dead flat that one's hit the upright hoop has done eight
28:06what can bryce do with the last one
28:07oh no no no no no just ripping it that way too early show your appreciation a little panic there
28:15for bryce it felt like maybe some fatigue as well it makes sense but the hooper managed eight
28:23yeah another mitch glitch i guess he wanted ten and now he's been beaten by two men who did nine
28:31so big bryce let's hear it only managed four 17.75 seconds he had some wild power but just shooting
28:46in the wrong direction and mitchell hooper surprise finishes third eight in 27.97
28:53another hitch for mitch and with paddy himself having a baddie too that's a great result for
29:01matthew rag and wes dowinski and their hopes of making top two while wes is with michelle
29:07wes it was amazing to watch you in that event and we know just how good you are at throwing was this
29:13something that you were looking forward to uh yeah very much so um having not the best day yesterday and
29:18having this in my back pocket was definitely uh my ace of spades and i knew i had to go a bit quicker
29:23with mitch going out last so i pushed the pace and i guess uh he made a little mistake and i
29:28capitalized you were a rookie last year your first time at world's strongest man coming back again does
29:34it feel any different uh yeah it's not quite as nerve-wracking but it's still world's strongest man and
29:39the nerves are always going well you're doing really well it's good to see you well done wes thank you very
29:44much
29:53patty himself though just one and a half points behind the misfiring mitchell so it's all to play
29:58for coming up we have the finale of group two four men in contention for two spots in the grand final
30:04we'll make it through we'll find out when we return
30:07welcome back to sunny sacramento and a dramatic finale for group two of the spd world's strongest
30:21man four men are still in contention for the two places in the final four stones will now decide who
30:27goes through it's the stone medley rock against the clock an all-new event for 2025 but a time trial of
30:35ancient origins with four natural stones to be pressed shoulder carried and lifted out first and
30:42completing his debut performance at world's strongest man was the usa's bryce johnson the
30:47man from dodge county wisconsin lifting two stones in a time of just under 46 seconds next up on the trial
30:54by stone and needing a monster performance here matthew rag over to colin and danny well thank you jane yes
31:01the stone medley different weights different tasks incredibly hard incredibly awkward on the whistle
31:12and it starts with uh probably the hardest element first this rectangular stone weighing only 123 kilos
31:19is very difficult to balance and press overhead paddy haynes will be watching this
31:25worried because he's not a great presser by these standards it's so awkward someone like matt rag were
31:34to do a great performance here though it hasn't started that well he could in theory still steal
31:40second place and go to the final he's gonna get this up on his chest which is not comfortable
31:49oh no thought he had it well that's already 45 seconds gone yeah that that walk he was just doing
31:58there suggests he's maybe not uh be feeling a little faint i think this isn't good he's run ragged
32:05thank you so getting this back up i mean this is now a herculean task he's exhausted it's already
32:17beaten him once oh no and now twice 20 seconds this is a really hard first element i'm getting 23 kilos
32:27it's just so difficult in this sun as well the heat sure you appreciate it ladies and gentlemen for
32:34i'll be gutted with that that's his chances over
32:38that's a real shame for matt rag the man who finished fourth in the world's strongest man final
32:45last year will not get a chance to compete for that this year athlete out to the natural stone medley
32:52wesley darwinski so darwinski
32:59observed that he's the man in third position at the moment ready
33:06nipping at the heels of paddy haynes
33:08what can he do different to matt rag leaning back is it looks like a bad idea but it actually helps
33:23you rest it on your chest and can give you the necessary time to get your hands in position
33:28still that kind of weight pressing down on the chest for too long
33:34yes is the answer it can go wrong so it's starting to feel faint pretty quick and you just gotta get
33:44it off your chest no matter what and that's just what happened there well well well if you don't get
33:49even a single rep it's a zero points it'll mean paddy will be in the final without even having to do a lift
33:58he's taking those straps off
34:02it hasn't helped 90 seconds you're allowed though he's still got plenty of time 30 seconds to go
34:07well he's going to give up just yet
34:09in the spare magnuson happy for him to have another go
34:17can he get one overhead lift
34:19just one lift you get a huge points here but no and he's beaten
34:30put your hands together for wesley so both rag and dowinski beaten by the natural stones
34:41which presents us actually with a very interesting situation
34:45because paddy haynes representing is up next and rag and dowinski failing means paddy knows he is now
34:56in the final before he even touches these stones which is extraordinary colin given this was
35:03a childhood ambition and now here he is on his debut and he knows he's in the final yes only done four
35:11of five events and he's in the final now as we know pressing not exactly his favorite element in
35:19strongman if he were to get this you never know he could put pressure on mitchell hooper oh yes well
35:26that's huge for paddy haynes huge for his confidence he could still win the group okay the pressing part
35:32is over now he's just got to lift this to his shoulder he's a great stone lifter let me move on to the
35:38next element which is a carry this weighs about 350 pounds
35:4725 stone up onto your shoulder
35:52he manages it with relative ease by lifting bryce johnson to your shoulder not easy he looks happy
35:58well this element should be the easiest part for paddy it might weigh 400 pounds 180 kilos but once he gets
36:10it up he's tremendous at carrying events well it's fast from haynes and it's made in the shape of the
36:19who's about stone a famous icelandic stone and he's carrying it well to the finish section yes
36:29he has one element left he's almost out of time
36:32but he still well touches it ladies and gentlemen extraordinary stuff from paddy haynes a star is
36:44born absolutely and putting in a huge performance there he knows he's into the final already before
36:51this event but this all counts to the start of the final how many points he'll carry into it
36:59that was huge three in one minute 22 it's better than tom stolman did and is he well just extraordinary
37:05from paddy haynes deserves it well follow that mitch you still have one man to go
37:20if you haven't taken quite so long over the first element it got that last stone up
37:24huddle for daisy why not perfectly legal representing canada on two mitchell hooper then world's
37:36strongest man faced a few difficulties so far in these events
37:43it's just this element i see people having problems with i'm not at all he's answering that
37:57criticism absolutely that was impressive good for him this is fast as well
38:04goodness me rolls it up there it is
38:06i mean it is possible to do all four elements i saw that with austin andrade
38:15in the first heat he did all four to the stone chicken nugget
38:22and this is very fast very confident round it goes that's 43 seconds wow this is really quick
38:33and friday just made it in in time the 92nd time limit could hooper do it under a minute
38:41they get the glitching
38:45moose is back with that one well
38:51extraordinary isn't it it's like the way he came back there the speed of it
38:56two two that's why he is known as super hooper let's hear it i'm glad to say that stone is
39:03well over 400 pounds you can dealt with ease and he wins the last event the national stone medley
39:10paddy haynes takes second incredible moment for him and he's with michelle now
39:15paddy haynes you are on fire out there completed three stones and you're sailing through to the
39:24final just give me an inkling of of what's going on in your mind right now it's it's mostly disbelief
39:30right now it's amazing i thought there's a chance with these events i can make the final but i really
39:36had to execute i mean the guys left the door open for me a bit but i i came through then when it mattered
39:42could not be happier i'm so happy you have clearly exceeded your own expectations
39:50to have your girlfriend daisy here as well supporting you what does that mean it means the
39:56world this is so much more than an individual sport she helps me every single day i've also got one of
40:02my best mates and my family in the crowd as well all the way from england just to do this for them
40:06for everyone my coach my nutritionist everyone that's involved in this i just get to lift the weights
40:11they're all the guys that do the work so tell you what the crowd are going wild for you you've
40:15you've definitely got their support on your first year in world's strongest man so you're in the final
40:20now paddy what's the next goal i haven't really thought that far ahead to be honest my goal here is
40:26just to become part of the furniture get here every year keep representing my country and keep making
40:32everyone i care about proud um let's see what we can do in the final congratulations paddy thank you
40:37so much so very happy paddy haynes joins very sober mitchell hooper they will go through to the grand final
40:48where the story so far with three heats still to come well we've got williams we've got haynes
40:54stoltman in seconds but so far in the lead mitchell hooper with 10 points
41:00mitchell hooper that was a seriously impressive way to finish off that heat
41:05yeah thank you i i knew i had made it through to the finals since points carry over it's good to have
41:09a good result all right uh not perfect but close and i'll take it for now yeah you say not perfect
41:16and i think we all noticed that mitchell hooper last year made no mistakes came in flying colors
41:21there were a few things in the heats like the axle press and the sandbags didn't get the 10 over
41:27any reasoning for that man i've won the last seven shows i won the last 10 of 11. i've made a couple
41:33of minor mistakes along the way and for now minor mistakes are minor mistakes we're through to the
41:37finals i'll probably have either nine or ten points to start and hopefully the mistakes are over we'll clean
41:43it up but to be imperfect and still potentially going as the leader into the finals where i have good
41:48events i'll survive mitchell the heats have been especially intense this year you're a guy who
41:55keeps your emotions so much under control but how much would it mean to you to go to the final and
41:59take that title back it would be great it would mean 12 months of uh undefeated strongman competition
42:05yeah it'd be eight in a row it'd be multiple victories across all the major shows and would start
42:10to cement me as one of the greatest full time and that would be a pretty cool thing to tell the kids
42:14down the track absolutely and you wouldn't have to hear this word former again former sucks so yeah
42:20it'd be good to be current okay excellent congratulations so mitch is through tom's already
42:25there of course and next time we'll be finding out who's joining them from heat three it features
42:29britain shane flowers matthias kiloskowski the terminator and also an american who's here for the
42:34first time but who many people are predicting big things for that's lucas hatton find out how they
42:38will get on next time on the spd world's strongest man and you can see heat three monday at seven
42:49will joe perry or jimmy white add one more title to their glittering careers the final of the british
42:55seniors open 2025 is live tomorrow at one with never before seen snapshots of the princes growing up
43:02william and harry the unseen photos is brand new next
43:08william and harry yes
43:23um
