The Eclipse Theophany: The foundational astronomical event of Christianity suppressed for millennia, now the subject of a groundbreaking academic paper that sets out to prove Jesus descended to earth in fully human form during a total solar eclipse over Capernaum in 29 AD. Presbyter Chat gets the first look at the paper and questions the author.

It turns out that a botched reservation at a Bethlehem horse stall has nothing to do with how Jesus arrived on earth...

The question isn't what are the implications - the question is what AREN'T the implications.

00:00Time for another edition of Presbyter Chat, where your questions are answered through the
00:06prism of pre-Nicene Christianity. Now your host, Presbyter Darren Kalama.
00:16Thanks for joining us. Our normal format is to answer theological questions from parishioners
00:23and general listeners, but today we're pulling on a single thread that begins with an astronomical
00:29fact and unravels the foundational narrative of traditional post-Nicene Christianity.
00:37It's an academic paper from the Journal of Pre-Nicene Christian Studies, and it's quite a
00:43mouthful, but it's titled, The Theophanic Replacement Protocol, A Forensic Reconstruction of Divine
00:50Identity Theft, Textual Erasure, and the Formation of Nicene Christianity. And part of its focus is
00:59on perhaps the most widely ignored celestial event that transpired during the time of Jesus on Earth.
01:08Now, before we start, a necessary preface. What we're discussing today isn't a new creed or
01:15some sketchy scroll in a clay pot found by fast-talking grave robbers in a desert.
01:21No, it's a historical forensic model. What we're doing is examining textual and astronomical evidence to
01:29reconstruct a possible sequence of events. Now, whether you end up agreeing with it or not,
01:35our goal is to simply follow the evidence and see if this model provides a coherent explanation for
01:42some of the most persistent puzzles in Christian origins. Now, here's our starting fact.
01:49As astronomers will tell you, a total solar eclipse can only occur during a new moon, and only during
01:58a new moon. Now, for Jews, it's called Rosh Chodash. Not sure if I'm pronouncing that correctly. And it's
02:05a divinely appointed feast in the Torah. It holds, I guess, apparently very important religious significance
02:13for them. So much so that I think you'll appreciate the soon-to-be-revealed irony contained in the
02:20statement from their prophet Amos in the Torah Old Testament. And that's from Amos chapter 5,
02:2718 through 20, who describes the day of the Lord as quote-unquote darkness. And with that, let's move on
02:36to our key text. The Evangelion, also called the Gospel of the Lord, the revelation received by the
02:43Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus, opens with this first sentence. Quote, In the fifteenth year of
02:51Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Jesus descended into Capernaum, a city in
02:59Galilee. Unquote. And the corresponding date of Tiberius' fifteenth year is 29 AD. And on November
03:08twenty-fourth of that same year, a total solar eclipse was one hundred percent visible over that
03:16very city named Capernaum. That's right. Jesus descended from heaven during a total solar eclipse
03:24over Capernaum and took on a fully human form, just as the Gospel describes it. Now, this isn't
03:32just a curiosity. Beyond the verified celestial event itself, it forces a deeper, uncomfortable
03:41question. Is this a random celestial coincidence or a deliberate, strategic declaration of war by the
03:50one descending? And this is where it's important that we be very clear about things, because a lot
03:57of people are going to immediately object. Some will hear this and say, this is just an attack on
04:04the Old Testament Torah scriptures. Well, let's disarm that right now. This model depends on taking
04:11the Hebrew scriptures with utter seriousness. It accepts their portrait of Yahweh, the commands for
04:19conquest, the genocidal commands, the covenant of law, the conditional blessings and curses, as an
04:27accurate, coherent character portrait. You see, the problem only arises when another religion, in this
04:34case Christianity, later claims that this same deity is identical to the Father of Infinite Grace revealed
04:42only by Jesus. So, the academic paper is not an attack on the Torah, but a textual analysis of a later
04:51theological claim made about it. So, if this theophanic model, the eclipse and its new moon and descent of
04:59Jesus is correct, the revealer of a new God appeared on the day of the new moon and weaponized its very sign
05:08by darkening it, just as a Yahweh prophet seemed to predict it. And, as an aside, a tangential
05:15sub-reference, it seems a little bit odd that Yahweh's prophets would describe the day of the Lord as a
05:22dark day if they weren't referring to a literal solar eclipse. Eh, something to think about. Anyway, this moves
05:30us beyond irony into the realm of cosmic confrontation. And, for those on the wrong side of this confrontation,
05:38they knew exactly what it meant. And, this confrontation becomes terrifyingly personal.
05:45Jesus's first act is to enter the synagogue in Capernaum and confront an unclean spirit, a demon.
05:54It looks at him and screams, I know who you are, the Holy One of God. Have you come to destroy
06:00us? Now, think about this. The demon automatically assumes, no, it knows Jesus's purpose is destructive,
06:11destructive to them, to their order, perhaps even to the synagogues where they obviously hang out and
06:18pass the time before Jesus so rudely interrupted them. Now, at this point, the implications become
06:26stark. And, for those from the apologetics industry, their defensive reflexes will kick in right about
06:34now, and another objection will arise. This is ancient Gnosticism or Marcionism. It's a heresy the Church
06:43rejected. To which theologians, the intellectually honest ones anyway, should reply, well, the Church
06:50fathers were brilliant theologians and politicians, making canon and creed in the wake of empire and
06:58persecution. They were building a unified system. But, this paper is conducting a historical autopsy,
07:07asking if that unified system they built was the original foundation, or a later structure built over
07:16a different one. So, invoking their authority to end the discussion is to assume the very thing that
07:23we're investigating. So, let's just hit the mute button on the wild-eyed peanut gallery and quietly and
07:30thoughtfully follow the evidence wherever it leads. Now, in this case, we have a foundational event that
07:37declares a new beginning by quite literally eclipsing the old. We have a spiritual entity from the old order
07:47instantly recognizing an alien destructive authority, and it is very, very afraid. And then we have
07:56centuries of history, the systematic editing of texts, the intimidation of communities, the burning of rival
08:03scriptures, culminating in an imperial council that legally defined Yahweh as the maker of heaven and
08:12earth. So, let's add all this up. When we try to fit an identity to the force that would orchestrate such
08:19a campaign to overwrite the original revelation, only one identity fits all the evidence. It's the identity
08:28implied by the demon's cry and vindicated by the centuries-long historical campaign. Simply put,
08:37the force that orchestrated the replacement of the eclipse theophany functioned as the cosmic adversary to
08:44the true God of grace. Its nature is that of the accuser, the legalist, the deceiver who masquerades as
08:53ultimate authority. And you know, I can already hear the final, loudest objection of them all.
08:59This destroys the unity of the Bible. It destroys the unity of God. To which we must ask, is that unity
09:08an original, divine fact? Or is it a hopelessly contrived palimpsest, a later editorial achievement
09:17guided partially, perhaps, by a powerful, malignant force? If a unity has to be in front of the
09:23force by councils, explained by complex allegory, or by dancing on the head of theological pins,
09:30and defended by calling all alternatives heresy, then perhaps we're witnessing the brilliant success
09:37of the stapled-together Judeo-Christian synthesis, not the proof of its pre-existence. You see,
09:45the power of this eclipse theophany model is in its explanatory coherence. It doesn't create
09:52new problems. In fact, it provides a single, stark solution to the oldest problems. The character
10:00clash between the testaments, the quote-unquote silent years of Jesus, where he sleeps on mom's
10:07couch until he turns 30, the violent political history of canon formation, it ties them all together
10:14into one narrative. And isn't that the way of things that are truthful or of truth? Are we not reminded
10:22of the verse that God is not the author of confusion? So what does this mean for us? Well,
10:29it means the crucifixion was not the adversary's defeat. In fact, it's actually his tactical sacrifice.
10:37Think of it as a chess move. His real victory was in the study in the council chamber, where the
10:44revealer's message, the gospel of the Lord, was captured, edited, annotated, replaced, and synthesized.
10:52This is why the eclipse theophany is not a detail. It's the original foundational stone that was buried.
10:59And our choice is this. Do we build our faith on the later synthetic house constructed over it,
11:05a horse stall in Bethlehem? Or do we dig down, find that original foundation, and build anew?
11:14You see, to be a Christian in the restored sense is to be a follower of the Evangelion alone,
11:20the first and only gospel preached by Paul the Apostle. And he defended it with the words,
11:26But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which is preached by me is not after man. For I neither
11:32received it received it of man, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. And that, de facto,
11:38makes you a citizen of a kingdom not of this world order. It makes you a child of a father who was,
11:47until the eclipse over Capernaum, entirely unknown. And it's important to be crystal clear about this.
11:54This discipleship doesn't reform the old house. It acknowledges the old house belonged to a different
12:02owner. It walks away, and with clear eyes and steady hands, builds a new one on the foundation of the
12:1029 AD eclipse theophany and the Evangelion gospel. Again, using only the materials delivered by the
12:19revealer. And by the way, for a free copy of the Evangelion, the gospel, visit theveryfirstbible.org.
12:28The eclipse was the puncture and the fabric of the old world. The light that came through was the
12:34light of a newly revealed sun. Our calling is to live by that light and that light alone. And you may
12:42find it of interest that the Marcionite church still celebrates the November 24th descent every year.
12:49The eclipse theophany is just one of many subjects that the paper sheds light on. It's actually quite
12:55amazing. But like most academic papers, it probably had little chance of seeing the light of day. And if
13:02you're interested in an expanded podcast on that paper, let us know in the comments below where I'll also
13:10include a link directly to it. Thanks again for joining us. And by the way, we don't sell anything. But if you
13:16derive some benefit from the program, please share it with others.
13:23May our Father's Holy Spirit find and guide you in these confusing times and lift the veil from your
13:29hearts and minds. I'm Darren Kalam and we'll see you next time on Presbyter Chat.
