In this report, India Today's Shibimol KG details Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's scathing attack on the Congress party following a political upset in Thrissur's Mattathur Panchayat. The Chief Minister accused the Congress of being 'hand-in-glove' with the BJP after eight Congress rebels joined forces with the saffron party to end the LDF's 23-year rule in the local body. Shibimol KG explains that Vijayan also drew parallels between the Congress government's 'bulldozer' actions in Karnataka and the BJP's policies in Uttar Pradesh, warning minorities that only the Left can be trusted to fight the BJP. The report highlights the shifting political dynamics in Kerala ahead of the 2026 elections, with the CM asserting that the Congress cannot be trusted to protect minority rights against the BJP.

00:00Breaking news coming in. This is Kerala Chief Minister's big attack on Congress BJP tango.
00:05Pinaray Vijayan has come out to say, and I quote, Congress behind the BJP Kerala in road.
00:11Kerala Chief Minister continues, Congress BJP are hand in glove, Kongnetas defecting to the BJP.
00:19Eight Kong rebels join hands with the BJP. This is BJP Congress rebels bagging.
00:24The BJP Congress rebels, in fact, end LDF's 23-year rule in this very region.
00:33After slamming Congress for the Bengaluru dozer run, this is Kerala Chief Minister's fresh strike on the Congress at this point.
00:40This is what we are learning from the state of Kerala, which also, remember, goes into elections in 2026.
00:47So the political environment there currently is quite heated up.
00:51Shubhimol, KG, joining me on the broadcast with more details on this.
00:55Shubhimol, big developments coming in from Kerala at this given point.
00:59There are attacks coming in from the Chief Minister yet again against Congress,
01:03but this time it's a BJP Congress tango he's hinted at.
01:07Well, exactly, Shreya. In fact, yesterday was the elections to the Panjai presidential post,
01:12and that's when, you know, in Mathutur drama, there's been a major shock to the Congress party.
01:17The eight Congress elected members had resigned from the party and joined hands with the BJP to oppose the LBF in the Panjai.
01:24The Panjai was ruled by the LBF for around 23 years.
01:26So yesterday, when the Congress members joined hands with BJP, the LBF had to sit in the opposition,
01:32and this was a major shock to the Congress party also.
01:34They had taken action against the Congress local leadership in the district also.
01:37So it's in that background that Chief Minister Pandraai Vijayan yesterday hit out at the Congress,
01:42saying that the Congress leadership in Kerala should answer,
01:45because we've seen this trend outside the state and many other states like Goa, Arnachal Pradesh,
01:51how Congress workers have joined hands with, the Congress leaders have joined hands with the BJP.
01:57So that trend is being repeated in Kerala, and this is concerning,
02:00and this should bother the Congress leadership, is what Chief Minister Pandraai Vijayan said,
02:04raising serious questions to the Congress party.
02:06The Congress itself is shocked seeing how the members just before the election quit the party
02:11and, you know, decide to support the BJP.
02:14Now, what we're understanding is this is going to be a narrative for the elections,
02:17upcoming elections also, that Congress cannot be trusted if it comes to minorities.
02:23It's always the LBF, the CTI and the LBF that are going to stand up for the minorities.
02:26And this, Chief Minister Pandraai Vijayan making this statement is also sending out a message to minorities in the state
02:30that, you know, for any issues regarding minorities, when it comes to opposing the BJP,
02:35it's the CTI and LBF that are going to stand up and fight the BJP in the state of Kerala.
02:41Right, Rupimol.
02:42You know, this is, in fact, if we are to look at how the relationship between the LBF
02:47and the Congress has also been panning out over just the two days,
02:51we see this is the second big attack coming in from Pinaray Vijayan against the Congress at this given point.
02:59Earlier one being with regards to the Karnataka Congress Unit
03:02and this time it is directly the state Congress Unit itself in Kerala that he has targeted.
03:10Well, exactly. In fact, you know, when we look at the election voting pattern in Kerala,
03:14the minorities have always supported the Congress Party in Kerala
03:17and it's in that background and we can see how the Hindu vote bank have started shifting.
03:23You know, there's a shift in the Hindu vote bank with many Hindu and CPI vote banks started voting for the BJP.
03:30That's what we've seen in the last few elections, the voting pattern in the last few elections.
03:33So it's in that background.
03:34Now Chief Minister Pindrai Vijayan is saying that, you know, when it comes to minorities,
03:39it's the LBF that's going to stand up for the minorities
03:42because in Karnataka we saw how a demolish, a bulldozer justice was implemented
03:47just like how we see in other North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh.
03:50Uttar Pradesh is state ruled by BJP, but here in Karnataka,
03:53the Congress who's government is taking such stand against minorities.
03:56So in these two days, with these two strong statements,
03:59Chief Minister Pindrai Vijayan is sending out a message here to the minorities in the Kerala
04:04that when it comes to the minority rights, when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities,
04:08it's the LBF that's going to stand.
04:10Because even in the last day, last week when she finished Pindrai Vijayan
04:13at the press conference, we mentioned this one statement.
04:16If we looked at the voting pattern in election results in local body elections,
04:19in many, he took certain examples and said that it's just very clear
04:22that it's the LBF that's going to oppose BJP in the state of Kerala.
04:26So that message is being sent out and I think in the coming days also
04:29we'll see more such statements coming out, attacking the Congress directly
04:32and sending a message to the minorities in the state.
04:35Right, Shibimol, thank you for bringing us those details
04:37with regards to how the political landscape is maneuvering in Kerala
04:41at this given point.
04:43And we will keep a close track of all these developments coming in from the state.
