00:00Ooh, this'll be fun.
00:11The Michael Bay Transformers movies delved into territory not seen yet in any form of
00:16Transformers fiction, giving us a grittier and more realistic version of our favourite
00:20heroes and villains.
00:21In a sense, they rebooted the franchise, taking it away from the kiddy and lighthearted taste
00:25left by the Unicron Trilogy, and bringing the franchise into a more violent and darker tone.
00:30This wasn't the only change, however.
00:32As a result, fans were left with mixed taste.
00:34There were those that loved it, and those that despised it.
00:38I'm more in between when it comes to these movies, I'll elaborate soon enough.
00:42Even those that hate it have to admit that the Michael Bay Transformers movies have had
00:45a massive impact on the series, reeling in thousands of new fans and changing the franchise forever.
00:51Most people think of these movies when someone mentions Transformers nowadays.
00:54Look up one of the main characters and guarantee the first image that comes up is a design
00:59from the movie.
01:00There's also a third party of people when it comes to reception of these movies.
01:04People who see them as normal movies, as in people who aren't fans of Transformers but
01:08saw it anyway.
01:09They likely opt for the hate side of the love-hate relationship many have with these movies.
01:14There are a lot wrong with these movies.
01:15It's the inappropriate joke, constant death, the nonsensical plot.
01:19See, this is how Michael Bates makes movies.
01:21First, he takes a good franchise.
01:25I'm throwing some explosions at Megan Fox and you've got an average Michael Bay movie.
01:42Voila!
01:43Instant 20% on Rotten Tomatoes.
01:44I would also like to take the time to address the fact that the 2007 Transformers movie has
01:48a higher rating than Rotten Tomatoes than the 1986 one.
01:52Someone please fix this.
01:53Please.
01:54In all seriousness, the Transformers movies don't do much as movies, but overall I think they're
01:59decent.
02:00Nothing more, nothing less.
02:01Here's why.
02:04One of my favourite things about the movies is what they did to the franchise and how they
02:08revolutionized it, over time rather than instantly.
02:11Without the movies, we wouldn't have awesome things such as Bumblebee in Animated.
02:15Fun fact, initially he was conceived as hotshot, and as you know, Bumblebee's my favourite
02:19animated character.
02:21As I previously touched upon before, the movies brought in brutal violence in the franchise,
02:25which serves as the influence for Prime's more serious take on the classic tale of Transformers
02:29in recent years.
02:30Though Bumblebee's lack of a voice was another aspect that spilled into Prime, overall the movie
02:34shaped the future of Transformers for the better more so than the worse.
02:37The movies bring us epic scenes, executed in gorgeous looking CGI that displays the wonder
02:43and awe caused by gazing upon these new, modern and awesome designs of our favourite characters.
02:48They perfectly encapsulated the fear and heroism intended to be given off by the Decepticons
02:52and Autobots, respectively.
02:54The relationship between humans and Transformers are simulated beautifully in these movies,
02:58whether it be from the ever annoying Sam Witwicky or awesome Cade Yeager, these movies
03:02give us an awesome live action experience never shown before in any past Transformers show
03:06movie.
03:07The first Transformers movie, in my opinion, was fantastic.
03:11There was a lot wrong with it, but I loved the overall and couldn't wait to see more.
03:14Unfortunately, Bay didn't deliver.
03:16Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon have their moments, but overall aren't that
03:19great.
03:20Age of Extinction, however, was a step in the right direction.
03:22It wasn't groundbreaking, but it was certainly an improvement over Mr Wrecking Balls and that
03:26hunchback thing.
03:27However, this is as far as my praise will go.
03:31One major problem I have with the movies is a pretty big one, the Transformers themselves.
03:34Though the designs are awesome, everyone just seems bland and lifeless.
03:38No character is full of any charisma or interesting attributes.
03:42Sure, kids will go crazy over Bumblebee because of reasons, but overall none of the Transformers
03:46stand out from one another.
03:48Instead, the movies pull a G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers on us and focus more on the humans,
03:53which isn't a bad thing in small doses, but can be ridiculous over time.
03:56I didn't come here to see a movie called Humans, am I right?
04:01I'm here all night.
04:02The Decepticons are awful in these movies.
04:03They are evil just because.
04:05They have no motive, no character or anything.
04:07They're just there to be maliciously destroyed.
04:09The Autobots aren't any better.
04:11While a majority of them have a snarky or cocky attitude, a majority don't speak or
04:15do anything, except appear in the background and attempt to advertise their toys, which are
04:19arguably full of more character than a movie character.
04:21Another major problem is death.
04:23Violence is great, especially in a series like Transformers.
04:26However, when it gets to the point that you're killing off characters simply because, or
04:29just to make room for new characters, it becomes ridiculous.
04:32The death count in these movies is astounding.
04:35No character will make it through all of the movies.
04:37That's a sad fact.
04:38Don't get attached to anyone.
04:39It's like Game of Thrones with giant robots, except the characters in Game of Thrones actually
04:43matter.
04:44Bumblebee is the only one of the original five Autobots not to die at some point.
04:48Some characters were forced into the movies for sheer recognizability, despite them not
04:52actually doing anything.
04:53A great example of this is Shockwave, the character hyped up in promos and trailers for Dark of
04:57the Moon, and then the character that actually didn't do anything in the movie, aside from
05:01die.
05:02Yeah, really.
05:03Awesome characters such as Ironhide, one of the only characters that actually possessed
05:07some form of personality, was killed by the awful and lifeless villain Saturnal Prime,
05:11as was Jazz, Ratchet, Leadfoot, Wheeljack and more.
05:14Sure, the aforementioned characters have no character or personality at all, but people
05:18seem to love them anyway.
05:19I swear to Primus, if I get one more comment claiming that I should have put Ratchet in
05:24my top 10 status death list, I will take down the video or something, where I will disable
05:29comments angrily.
05:31A reoccurring complaint is that it's impossible to tell who's fighting who, and what's going
05:35on, as a majority of the Transformers look similar if not the same.
05:38These usually come from casual fans or people who aren't fans at all, which is understandable,
05:42considering they don't know who the characters are or what they look like.
05:45Though I can agree on this point to some amount, it doesn't make all of the action scenes completely
05:49impossible to understand as the pretty supply.
05:51It just makes them less full of light and action, as by the time you work out who's fighting
05:56who, the fight's already over and another character is dead.
05:59My biggest pet peeve with these movies is its over-saturation.
06:02Hasbro must have made billions with all the merchandise.
06:05The toys are cool, but you think they realise it's time to stop when you begin putting Bumblebee's
06:09face on drink bottles and pillows.
06:11Bumblebee was literally everywhere.
06:13Not as much as that of Olaf or the Minions, but still way too much.
06:17Speaking of which, why are these movies marketed to children?
06:20These movies have scenes and jokes inappropriate for the audience the toys and other merchandisers
06:24aimed at.
06:25Seriously Hasbro, you can't dumb down scenes and put them into storybooks, it's wrong.
06:29Most kids won't even understand what the hell is going on, until their parents rip them
06:33out of the cinemas because of the occasional swear.
06:35I'm looking at you wheelie, it was your fault Grandpa made me leave halfway through Revenge
06:39of the Fallen.
06:40Oh your fault.
06:41Your f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing
06:48F***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***
07:18popular movie franchises. Wait, they're making another one? What? NOOOOOOO!
07:31Another one.
07:48Now I can't see you so proud. I look around. You'll never feel alone. You're my dream. We'll never come to just forever. Who's gonna take you home?
08:15You're my dream.
