00:00The stockings are up, the carrot is laid out for Rudolph and of course a mince pie for the big man himself.
00:07All that's left to do is decorate the tree.
00:09Oh, hi guys, you're here.
00:11Oh, I think we're going to need a bit more help.
00:14Hi.
00:15Our celebrity potters.
00:17You're all ready. Okay, let's get on with it.
00:20Oh.
00:21That one's going to look beautiful just there.
00:23Oh, they're putting it there.
00:25That looks lovely.
00:26Yeah, happy night.
00:28It's looking good.
00:43All right then, we're ready.
00:46Welcome to the festive pottery throwdown.
00:58Make it time.
01:04Shootin' the lines.
01:09People have their uses.
01:13People have their uses.
01:17Right, here we go. Origami.
01:32I haven't got it wrong again, have I?
01:33The festive pottery throwdown is back.
01:35This will be like the footballer walking into Wembley.
01:38And getting competitive in clay...
01:40This is the Wembley of pottery.
01:42...is host of Countdown, TV and radio presenter Colin Murray.
01:47To not try and win this is disrespectful to the show,
01:51disrespectful to the judges, disrespectful to Christmas.
01:55So I'll be giving it everything.
01:56This is where it gets real. Bye.
02:00Get in here.
02:01Author and broadcaster Amber Gill.
02:03I'm a very competitive being. I want to win everything that I do.
02:07I might pull it out the bag when I get in there.
02:08I might get in the zone and pull it out the bag.
02:10That's what I'm hoping for.
02:11Don't start, Tim. That's disqualification.
02:14We know you're... We're up... Do it up.
02:16Comedian and actor Tim Vines.
02:19Someone's got to win, I suppose.
02:21But we're not here to win. We're here to make art.
02:24Come on. Nobody believes that.
02:27And twinkle-toed actress Sarah Hadland.
02:30For me, pottery starts from the feet up.
02:33And this is what I'm bringing.
02:35A bit of glitz.
02:37Keith hasn't seen these yet, but I think he will like what he sees.
02:40Like, that might be de rigueur. You have to wear those.
02:43Tim, how would you feel about wearing those?
02:45I wouldn't mind.
02:46Well, no, I couldn't... With my back?
02:48Why don't you give your love?
02:53Oh, here we go.
02:57Hello.
02:58Hello.
02:59Well done.
03:03Well done.
03:04Well done.
03:07Welcome, Potters, for your main make challenge.
03:12The judges would like you to hand-build Santa's North Pole.
03:16Now, this could be a nice, cosy cabin or a pimped-up sleigh
03:21or whatever you think Santa's North Pole is.
03:24Now, your North Pole scene must consist of three model figures,
03:30at least one slab-built building and two other large items.
03:34Judges, any advice for our newbie Potters?
03:37Now, this is a hand-building challenge,
03:39so you should slab-build your main building,
03:43but you can use any other hand-building technique
03:45for your other pieces.
03:46But make sure you choose the right one suited to your design
03:50and, more importantly, your abilities.
03:52Oh.
03:53Rich?
03:54One of your model figures must be Santa,
03:57but the other two can be human or animal form.
04:00But all of your pieces should complement each other
04:03to create a cohesive, eye-catching festive set.
04:07OK, then, Potters, you have been given six hours
04:11to make and refine Santa's North Pole,
04:14and your time starts now!
04:17Potters, get potting!
04:19First things first.
04:21Clay.
04:22Each Potter has been gifted 12 1⁄2 kilos of clay.
04:26I've never seen anyone on the programme just do this.
04:29It's really satisfying.
04:30And, in the spirit of Christmas...
04:32Oh, my God, I've got so much to do.
04:34...all have received a few hours of basic pottery training.
04:38Oh, Colin, what's going on there?
04:40I'm having a nightmare start.
04:41I need to learn how to calm down.
04:43For their festive builds to work,
04:45the Potters must use a rolling machine or guide sticks
04:48to create clay slabs, even in thickness and size.
04:52A potter who sings...
04:54Ow! Flip!
04:55Oh, just stuck your finger under the flat knot.
04:58Before using templates and formers
05:01to cut and shape a kit of parts.
05:03Oh, Tim, what am I doing?
05:07Woo!
05:08Cutting clay with a knife.
05:10That's what I call it.
05:11Normally, when I talk about pottery, people glaze over.
05:13We're going to the North Pole, Rich.
05:18We are, Keith.
05:19We've got four incredibly talented people up in the pottery.
05:23Now, whether they're talented for clay is another matter.
05:26At the very, very outset, they've got to have a plan.
05:29They've got to have a design plan.
05:31Yeah.
05:31I mean, their building is slab built,
05:33so it's not just about rolling a flat slab,
05:35keeping it plain and constructing a box.
05:36It's all about kind of injecting life into the surfaces.
05:40Yeah, and look, you don't have to be incredibly proficient at pottery
05:43to be able to get some really decent mark-making in there.
05:47I mean, this is a simple idea,
05:49just to cover the roof with something that looks like snow.
05:52That's fairly easy to do.
05:53Completely.
05:54And it would be great to see in their three modelled figures
05:57real character, real expression,
06:00and that can be by adding pieces on or decorating.
06:02That's right, but there's lots of risk here.
06:04How are they going to secure arms, legs, wings?
06:07If they're going to produce a Rudolph,
06:09how are they going to secure those antlers on there?
06:12Completely.
06:12So they need to make sure that those adornments
06:14are being put on at the right stage
06:16when everything is good and wet
06:17and you can get a good, solid join.
06:19And then they need to handle the items really carefully.
06:22The tiniest little movement, and they're off.
06:24I just want something that feels joyful.
06:27Yeah.
06:27Feels like Christmas in a set.
06:29Yeah, Merry Christmas, Rich.
06:30Merry Christmas to you too, Keith.
06:34Hi, lovey.
06:35Hi.
06:35Hi, guys.
06:36Oh, I feel scared.
06:38So, look, tell us about your North Pole design.
06:41It's all based around a gingerbread house.
06:43Right.
06:43I had this mug when I was younger
06:44that had, like, gingerbread house on, like candy canes.
06:48And when that came out,
06:49I knew I was getting a sick hot chocolate
06:51with, like, whipped cream marshmallows.
06:53Nice one.
06:53And then it was Christmas.
06:54So that's what I'm doing right now.
06:56Amber's sweet retreat for Santa
06:58would be reached by Polar Express
07:00and shared with a gingerbread friend,
07:03snowman and faithful animal companions.
07:06What else are you doing?
07:08I'm undecided on one.
07:10OK.
07:10OK.
07:11Between a reindeer or my dog.
07:13See how it turns out.
07:14Yeah, if they go up like this, it's an antler.
07:16If it goes down like this, it's a cocky spaniel.
07:17So we'll see.
07:19We'll see when I get there.
07:20Yeah, it's a lot to think about.
07:22Well, look, good luck with it all.
07:24See you later on.
07:24Thank you very much.
07:28Does that look like tiles on a roof?
07:30Now that their slabs are cut to size
07:32and the clay is still soft and malleable...
07:35I'm going to make a feature of the heart.
07:36..the potters can use tools to add texture and details
07:40to the surface of their slabs.
07:42Do you know what might be quite cute?
07:43It's a little circular window.
07:46Well, that's where the chimney's going to go.
07:48It's not about what you leave in, it's what you take out.
07:51This is the roof, is it?
07:52That's the roof.
07:52That's gorgeous, thanks.
07:53This is the front of my house.
07:56I'm going to place, like, a 3D Christmas tree on the top
07:58just to give it a little bit of pizzazz.
08:01Yeah.
08:01And are you going to scratch and sniff that on now
08:04or are you going to assemble it later on?
08:07Yeah.
08:08Yeah.
08:09I think we're done here.
08:10Yeah.
08:12Everything's sort of labelled with the countdown letters.
08:15On the house, it'll say North Pole
08:17and inside the house, it'll say Home.
08:21Oh, I love you.
08:22Hey.
08:22Hi, Colin.
08:23Hi, are you?
08:24Hello.
08:24How are we doing?
08:25Good.
08:25My piece is called Home is Where the Heart Is.
08:27Yeah.
08:27And it's all based about Santa getting back to the things that he loves
08:31because he's shattered.
08:32Yeah.
08:33So when he comes home, he wants his wife and he wants his dog.
08:37Colin's North Pole scene is all about creature comforts.
08:41Santa's house will have a detachable roof
08:43revealing a snug bed for Santa and Mrs Claus,
08:46while outside there's a hot tub for Rudolph to blow off steam.
08:50What are you most worried about?
08:53Rudolph's hot tub.
08:54I'm about ten minutes behind.
08:56That's quite detailed.
08:57Yeah.
08:57So you've really marked out your time management, have you?
09:00Yeah.
09:01They were generous with my GCSE art.
09:03They gave me a U.
09:04But what I'm good at is maths.
09:07Like, everything has to be scheduled for me or I get panicked.
09:10Hopefully you'll calm down a bit.
09:12Yes.
09:12And you'll let the clay process do its thing.
09:15Best of luck with it, Colin.
09:16Thank you so much.
09:17That's Rudolph relaxing.
09:19He's going to have a few drinks.
09:20His mates are coming round later.
09:22Colin isn't the only potter aiming to take the stress out of Christmas.
09:27Hot tubs are so, so passe.
09:30Santa's not going to be going in a hot tub.
09:32He's going to have a little ice bar
09:33and then he's going to have a little chocolate fountain.
09:35Post-Christmas pampering is the order of the day at Sarah's Spa,
09:41where Santa can soothe his aching muscles
09:43before joining his friends, Grandpa Robin and Penguin,
09:47for some festive fun.
09:48This illustration wasn't done by myself.
09:50Right.
09:51This is done by my child.
09:52This is our cat Percy.
09:53So it's going to be Santa paws.
09:55Do you see?
09:56I see what you've done there.
09:59Also, what I'm doing is a fisherman's cottage,
10:01which is where I spend my family Christmases on the Kent coast.
10:04And what I'm trying to do...
10:05There's lots of spares.
10:07Oh, OK.
10:07No thinking ahead.
10:08Because you can let all this now dry off leather hard
10:11and then put it all together not too wet.
10:15Yeah.
10:16Good luck.
10:16Thank you very much.
10:19Potters, the drying room is...
10:22Oh.
10:24Open!
10:26I presume the drying room does what it says on the tin, does it?
10:29In we go.
10:31Before the celebrity potters can start to construct their North Pole buildings,
10:35two pepperoni for Siobhan.
10:38She knows my order.
10:40They must ensure each piece is dry and firm enough to support its own weight.
10:44Sarah's made more slabs than the entire eight series of the pottery throw down.
10:49While most of the potters are creating their structures entirely from slabs,
10:54Tim is treading a different path.
10:56I have to build a little staircase using the Tim Vine gouging method.
11:01I know what you're thinking.
11:03This isn't going to work.
11:04I think it might.
11:08What are you doing?
11:10It looks like you're stuffing a turkey.
11:11Yeah.
11:13I'll show you what I'm doing here.
11:14Look, I'm building Santa's Snowshull Club.
11:18I beg your pardon?
11:19Snowshull Club.
11:19It just rhymes with social.
11:21Nice.
11:21The way in is you go up the stairs on the side of the building and down the chimney on the top.
11:24Right.
11:25So there needs to be stairs on the side.
11:27So long as Santa doesn't get stuck in the chimney,
11:30Tim's North Pole Snowshull Club will offer darts,
11:34carol okey and sprout golf to take his mind off his Christmas duties.
11:38Christmas to me is all about fun and family.
11:41So there's me as Santa Claus hitting sprouts to my dad.
11:46And then the reindeer is my mum sat in the armchair doing carol okey.
11:50Right.
11:50And is your mother called carol?
11:52She's not.
11:52She's called Diana, but she does like to sing.
11:55You have given yourself an awful lot to do, so we will leave you.
11:58A lot of awful to do.
11:59Yeah, good luck, mate.
12:02Right.
12:02Now then, where was I?
12:04Who were those guys?
12:07Potters!
12:08You're halfway through!
12:11Time really does go whizzing by when you don't know what the hell you're doing.
12:14The judges are expecting to see at least three modelled figures.
12:18Don't think about it, just do it.
12:20Here we go.
12:21One of which needs to be the main man himself.
12:24This is Santa.
12:25This is him.
12:27It's supposed to be a leg.
12:29And the Potters must use their artistic skills to bring him to life.
12:33This is going to be my Santa paws.
12:35I don't know why, but it looks more like a bird.
12:38It looks more like a bird than a cat.
12:39The smile is the moment the character comes alive, and it's done with a simple spoon.
12:46Oh, that's nice.
12:48That's nice.
12:49Come on, just give us a little grin.
12:50Oh, now he looks a bit more like a cat.
12:54Little Percy boy.
12:56He would be perfect for Santa.
12:58My Santa is terrible, but you know what?
13:00When you paint him red, he's Santa.
13:03This is Santa's beard.
13:04I thought it would be nice to have a cute little texture up of the beard, you know, rather than just, like, painting it.
13:09I can think about that.
13:10I think he looks great.
13:12Are you going to win?
13:12Uh, you know, because funny enough, I'm not the most competitive person here.
13:19Gotcha.
13:20Yeah, yeah.
13:22You don't care if you win.
13:24No.
13:24You're going to win?
13:24I mean, all right, I'd rather win than lose.
13:27It's not called the Great Pottery Friendly, is it?
13:34Potters, that's two hours left.
13:37Aye, aye, aye.
13:37Get out of my way.
13:38Where's my leather hearts?
13:41Definitely, like, feels like it's going to stand up, though.
13:44Now that their slab pieces have reached the sturdy leather heart stage...
13:47I'm trying to see if my house is going to connect together.
13:51...the celebrity potters can start to assemble their main buildings.
13:55It's okay.
13:55I mean, it's about right.
13:57Where's the back of this thing?
14:01Sides, base.
14:04I never wrote back on here.
14:07Are you missing a piece, buddy?
14:09Yeah, I forgot to make a back, despite the fact that I did have a cutout for the back here.
14:13No.
14:15Um, I'm just going to go over here a moment, here.
14:19Yeah.
14:20You know, you, uh, you've got these spare bits of wool.
14:25Yeah.
14:27Have you got any, any chance of a bit of wool?
14:33I can have that, can I?
14:34You can have it.
14:35Let me just see if it fits.
14:35He's got that in it, though. Is that all right?
14:36Well, I'll probably chop that off.
14:38Let me have a little look.
14:38This fits like a dream.
14:40He got me out of pottery jail.
14:43You're absolutely welcome, Tim Vine.
14:45To create strong structures, the potters must score either side of their pieces.
14:51This is just basic entry-level scoring.
14:53Before bonding them together with slip.
14:55I didn't put any slip in that. What an idiot. I'll fix that in a bit.
14:59And well-made joins are vital to prevent a Christmas catastrophe in the kiln.
15:03I am putting it in like a sealant. That's how I hope it's going to stay up.
15:06Oh, there's a massive crack.
15:08Gaps.
15:09Gaps, sorry. Hello. Gaps and cracks. How may I help you?
15:15That would be my building company's name.
15:17Well, this is bad. So, that's the number, actually.
15:21Potters, guess what? Half an hour left. Make it matter.
15:26All right. Major point.
15:28I've connected my roof by accident. So, we've got to cut this away.
15:32Why?
15:33Because all my bits have to fit inside.
15:35Ah!
15:35Max them off.
15:36Wow. This is so cool.
15:38With their buildings constructed...
15:40Next up, the dartboard.
15:42Dartboard, please, Vine.
15:44The potters can turn their attention to crafting their remaining
15:47pieces.
15:48He looks like one of those novelty loo roll holders.
15:52I'm making my dog. He's called Buddy.
15:54He's only like 20 months this Christmas.
15:56But it's definitely a risk because there's bits that can fall off.
15:59I know my dance. I play for a pub team.
16:02They're called the Wallis.
16:03And Christmas is about games, isn't it?
16:05I'm actually doing a train. This didn't stick properly.
16:09I'd push it together and like wet it.
16:11But it is extremely dry. So, I'm just going to have to wing it.
16:16Right, moving on now to the penguin.
16:18Now, the trick about the penguin is to make it really quickly.
16:21I've got one more character to do.
16:22It might be a penguin, but I've just heard that Sarah's got a penguin in hers.
16:25So, I'm wondering whether I should change mine last minute and make the Yeti.
16:30I'm doing my father represented by the Yeti.
16:33He's coming up now.
16:39How long we got?
16:39Potters, that's 10 minutes left.
16:43Holy flip.
16:44Tim's just having a little week at his bench.
16:46It's all right, Tim.
16:47Happy Yeti. They must be happy.
16:49He's going to have a little bit of a smile here.
16:50Santa.
16:52Let's get you looking better.
16:53That's Grandpa Robin.
16:56He's rock hard. I don't think I can do a lot with that.
16:59But he hasn't got any wingers.
17:01Rudolph looks all right.
17:02I don't know.
17:03One of his antlers is a bit messed up, but it could be an injury or something.
17:07I don't know.
17:08Animals aren't symmetrical, are they?
17:10They're just, you know.
17:12I've just realised I haven't made my chocolate fountain.
17:14Santa is looking a little bit more like Santa now.
17:17Ha!
17:19Idiot.
17:21My Santa fell off the table.
17:24Man down.
17:26Potters, you have five minutes left.
17:30Don't panic.
17:31The key thing is not to panic.
17:32How are we getting on here?
17:33My Santa is getting remade from scratch.
17:35What? He looks great.
17:36Look at his beard.
17:37Who amongst us doesn't have a beard that's slightly flat on one side?
17:40I'm absolutely in pre-fall here.
17:44At the moment, I'm debating the size of the sprouts.
17:46I think they should be quite big sprouts.
17:48Tim, I'm having a bit of a crisis.
17:50One moment, please.
17:50I need to help out a friend.
17:51Yes.
17:52How can I make that into a chocolate fountain?
17:54What about if you had lots of rolly-rollies coming out?
17:58Yes!
17:59Yes!
17:59One minute left.
18:00I need to get back to the sprouts.
18:02Everything has to be in the drying room.
18:04But I've got a desperately ill Santa here.
18:06This is a mess.
18:07That's my bad.
18:08OK, my friends, whatever you do, don't explode.
18:11If this doesn't make Keith cry, I don't know what will.
18:14I want my roof off for the kiln.
18:15Can you do that for me?
18:16Yep.
18:17All fine with Princess.
18:18There we go.
18:20I don't want to drop it.
18:2110, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
18:29Well done.
18:30Well done.
18:31Well done.
18:31Yeah.
18:32Congratulations.
18:34Well done.
18:34Have a well-deserved rest.
18:36Maybe a mince pie, some eggnog and go away.
18:38Bye!
18:39Ho, ho, ho.
18:43I'm an idiot.
18:44I drop my Santa.
18:46I'm 80% on surviving the kiln.
18:48Something might fall off or I might lose a dog's tail.
18:51But that doesn't matter.
18:52Dogs lose tails.
18:53I think the hardest thing is just knowing the steps and making sure everything's cut to the
18:57right size.
18:58But my gingerbread house is sick.
18:59I'm happy with Santa.
19:00I'm happy with the whole gang.
19:02In my lack of preparation, I forgot to make the back of the Snowshull Club.
19:07And Sarah was very good to me.
19:08That kept me in the race for fourth position.
19:10I absolutely saved his bacon.
19:12He did pay it back though, because he helped me out with the chocolate fountain.
19:15Although now, on reflection, did he help me out?
19:28My money's on granite sculpture.
19:31With their North Pole scenes and the kiln.
19:34Do you think on a show called The Throwdown, we might be throwing it down.
19:37Throwing it down?
19:38Yeah.
19:39The Celebrity Potters now face a festive second challenge.
19:53Welcome back, Potters, to your second challenge, which is a very festive throwdown.
19:59You will be making the well-known reindeer drinking bowl.
20:04Right now, to show us how it's done is Master Potter, Keith Primer Jones.
20:10Keith, please take the wheel.
20:11Okay.
20:13So here you have a kilo of clay.
20:15So get your ball, shove it on the wheel, wet your hands, wet the clay.
20:20What I'm doing now is I'm kneading the clay to get it all the same consistency.
20:26Now, it's easier to centre the clay when the wheel is going as fast as it possibly can.
20:32This left hand on the outside, your right hand over the top, and you just push towards the centre.
20:43So you want a nice contained lump of clay on there, okay?
20:48So once you've got it centred, use your middle finger and just press down and then move the clay out.
20:56If one hand is working on the clay, the other hand is always there to support what the other hand is doing.
21:02So I'm making a nice flat bottom.
21:05Don't go down too far.
21:07We don't want napkin rings.
21:08We want a base to this thing.
21:10And just gently squeeze the clay out.
21:15Now you slow the wheel down a bit.
21:16Okay, yeah.
21:18You get your hands like a crab and then just change the direction of the clay.
21:26And then we want a nice straight side.
21:31Oh, look at that.
21:34Get your wooden template to make a nice clean finish.
21:40Get your wire.
21:42Don't ruin it now by wiring through your pot.
21:46Wire it through one more time and there you go.
21:48Wow.
21:50That's amazing.
21:52Beautiful.
21:52Look at that.
21:53Symmetry.
21:56All right then, potters, please back to your benches.
21:59You have been given 30 minutes to make as many identical reindeer drinking bowls as you can.
22:07And your time starts now.
22:10Remove the Hessian.
22:13He's off.
22:14Colin's off.
22:19Sarah, try not to grip it too hard.
22:21Sorry.
22:23Yeah.
22:23Looking nice and steady, Amber.
22:26See, she scented it.
22:28I'm going to bring it up.
22:29Watch me.
22:30Up.
22:30Up.
22:31Up she comes.
22:32And then I go down.
22:33That's it.
22:34Down.
22:35It's exhausting.
22:36That's why I'm on this side, wearing the nice frocks.
22:39What did I say about supporting?
22:41If one hand is working on the clay...
22:44It's a lot at once.
22:45I find it a bit overwhelming.
22:46I can't remember how I get my middle finger in.
22:49Slow the wheel down, Colin.
22:51More water.
22:52Now can I do my crab and push away?
22:54See, it's a million things.
22:56How am I going to play the drums and guitar?
22:58Oh, no.
23:00I think I'm going to take it off and start again.
23:02Oh, ah, lost it.
23:07It's a real nuisance there.
23:08How are you doing, Tim?
23:10Uh-oh.
23:11Hang on.
23:12I'm just trying to get this thing back onto the centre.
23:15Oh, this is really tall.
23:17Try and make it slightly wider.
23:21Get that one off.
23:22What, this one off?
23:24Yeah.
23:24Clean it out.
23:25Where's my sponge?
23:26I should have quit while I was ahead and taken it off.
23:28Anyone taken one off yet?
23:29Yeah, but it's terrible.
23:30I'm about to.
23:31I think that's perfect.
23:33The best looking ball I've ever seen in my life.
23:35Absolutely delighted.
23:38Well done, Colin.
23:39That's my second.
23:40And it was better than my first.
23:43I'm going to have to start again.
23:44There's no point in using that, is there?
23:46I'm going to restart.
23:47I might as well just get one decent pot.
23:49Do you feel that the second one is going to go well for you?
23:54Uh...
23:54Good.
23:56Try not to rush it, Colin.
23:57Try not to rush.
24:00I love this pot.
24:01I'm basically behind.
24:03Everyone's...
24:03Look, there's all this success going on.
24:05Don't press down too far because you'll end up with no bottom.
24:08No.
24:09We don't want that.
24:10Nobody wants no bottom.
24:11I don't know what I'm doing.
24:12I want rib action on the outside.
24:14Yeah.
24:16Oh!
24:20I feel like I'm just making a plate here.
24:23It never felt so crap in anything in my life.
24:27Potters!
24:28Oh, let me guess.
24:29We're halfway through.
24:30Yeah, you're halfway through.
24:32Are you serious?
24:33Yeah.
24:34Plenty of time.
24:35Come on.
24:36Oh, no!
24:37Oh, that was my really good one.
24:39Right, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
24:40Nothing to see here.
24:42Wow.
24:43Try and relax with that one.
24:44OK, Colin.
24:45I'll try and salvage it.
24:46Oh, Tim!
24:47Oh, well done, Tim!
24:48Wee!
24:49That's a bit of rubbish.
24:50Now get one sip out of that.
24:51I knew you'd be really good at this.
24:54Yeah, it's probably about jeans.
24:56It doesn't look like what you're meant to do.
24:58It's very good, but is it a reindeer drinking bowl?
25:02Yeah.
25:03But their little red noses will get stuck in it.
25:05There's only one with a red nose.
25:06That's for the other ones.
25:08Yeah, you have an answer for everything.
25:09Cheerio.
25:11Potters!
25:13Five minutes left.
25:14That's looking great, Colin.
25:18Much better.
25:20Tim, how many have you done?
25:21Two, I think.
25:22Sarah?
25:22Three, I think.
25:23Colin?
25:24One.
25:25And four for the bin.
25:26OK.
25:27Amber?
25:28Two.
25:29I need out of those.
25:30We're looking for identical.
25:32Oh, identical.
25:33Oh, dear, I don't think I heard that bit.
25:35This is like a plant plant.
25:38Oh, a bit better.
25:39Colin, that's brilliant.
25:42Well done, Tim.
25:43Time for one more.
25:45Right, let's get one in.
25:46Let's get one and a buy.
25:47Come on.
25:48I'm going for it.
25:53You all right there, Tim?
25:55I'm trying.
25:56Are you allowed to do this?
25:58Just scrape out that middle bit.
26:00Oh, no, no.
26:01OK.
26:01I think I can save that.
26:03Ten!
26:04Nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
26:13Step away from your festive reindeer drinking bowls.
26:18Oh, they look really nice.
26:20I've done my best.
26:22He's and Rich are looking for reindeer drinking bowls,
26:25identical in shape and size.
26:27And any that don't make the grade will be devoured
26:29by the bucket of doom.
26:31Hello, lovey.
26:32Hello, Sarah.
26:32Hello.
26:36Well, that's not very good, is it?
26:40The base was too thick.
26:41He loves it.
26:42Just don't think of him as the same Keith.
26:43He's just a different Keith.
26:44You'll have to fight me for them, Keith,
26:47because I'm really happy with them.
26:48Do you like them?
26:49No, it's fine.
26:50But that one might have to go in.
26:53It was too wide, but it had sort of slightly collapsed.
26:55But these two, really, really good.
26:57I can see the consistency in the wall thickness.
27:00This one is definitely the most aligned with Keith's shape.
27:02Yeah, brilliant.
27:03I'm so sorry about it.
27:04That's all right.
27:08You're going to need a bigger bucket.
27:10Look, they laughed at Salvador Dali, didn't they?
27:13Well, that's going in.
27:15I'd have put it in for you.
27:17That's going in.
27:17That's going in.
27:19This one.
27:19That's cruel.
27:21And that one's going in.
27:22Yeah, I agree.
27:24So there you go.
27:24Oh, you're keeping three.
27:26Keeping three.
27:27The wall thickness is very consistent.
27:29The height's very consistent.
27:30And actually,
27:32they're kind of in line with Keith's shape.
27:33It's a fantastic effort.
27:35Fantastic.
27:35Thank you so much.
27:36Cheers.
27:40You know what, Tim?
27:42You've messed it up.
27:45You've done all right, mate.
27:46I saw you struggling on the wheel.
27:48And the fact that you've never done it before,
27:50it's amazing, mate.
27:51You should be really proud of yourself.
27:53Oh, thank you.
27:54That one's going.
27:54Of course.
27:55That would be my first go as well, actually, Keith.
27:57There's a real sense of sort of continuity
27:59between these three, isn't there?
28:01They are incredibly consistent.
28:02Really good job, really good job.
28:03Thank you very much.
28:04Well done.
28:04Nice work.
28:09My gosh, they look amazing.
28:11They do.
28:12They're not quite what we were looking for.
28:14Oh, no.
28:14You just needed to pull the clay out wider.
28:17I mean, that one.
28:18No, but, no.
28:19Oh.
28:20No.
28:21But it'll be OK.
28:22No, no, no, I don't think.
28:24Look at that.
28:25Keith, do what you need to do.
28:26No.
28:26What's that?
28:27Oh, no.
28:27Oh, no.
28:28Oh, yeah.
28:29Oh, yeah.
28:30Yeah.
28:31Wow.
28:31That's a look.
28:34I'm actually really upset.
28:35But you know what, Amber?
28:36These are amazing.
28:37Do you know I actually really enjoy it, though?
28:39Like, I think that's what it is.
28:40Yeah, like, I love it.
28:41Well, you should really pursue it, I think.
28:43Well done, lovey.
28:44Go on, Amber.
28:45Yeah, well done.
28:46Keith and Rich will now rank the Potters from worst to first.
28:54In joint third place is Tim and Amber.
28:59The reason for this, Tim, yours are a bit low, but the right width.
29:04And Amber, your throwing is probably the best.
29:07It just wasn't the shape that we were looking for.
29:11So, in second place, Sarah, well done.
29:17Wow.
29:17So, Colin, first place.
29:20Well done.
29:20Wow.
29:21Well done.
29:22Well done, Colin.
29:23Wow.
29:25When he said joint third, I'm like, brilliant, I'm not last.
29:28When he said Sarah second, I was like, are you kidding me?
29:30Well done, babe.
29:31I'm going home.
29:32I'm getting a wheel.
29:33I'm buying clay.
29:34Because if Keith says I've got a talent for it, how can I not?
29:37How can I not take it up?
29:39I have to.
29:46Christmas time.
29:47It's decoration day for our celebrity potter's North Pole scenes.
29:51Well, here we go.
29:53The big reveal.
29:54After a 24-hour bisque fire, kiln technician Princess is laying out the pieces, ready for glazing.
30:00I'm worried.
30:03Lots of talk of explosion this one, Anne.
30:06Oh, my word.
30:07Look.
30:08Oh, that's slightly hopeful.
30:09There's no priest at the end of any of the tables.
30:15Decorating is where we'll really see me fly.
30:17I love painting.
30:18I just painted some stairs freehand.
30:21Welcome back, potters.
30:29Now, as you can see, your North Pole scenes have been bisque fired and are hiding under
30:34the hessian, waiting to be decorated.
30:37Rich, any advice for our, I think, quite nervous-looking potters?
30:41Your decoration is going to help bring your North Pole scenes to life.
30:45Just give proper consideration to your colour choices, where you put that colour, and how
30:50you're applying it.
30:51We're just all really keen to see your artistic sides coming through.
30:55Keith?
30:56Now, you're just about to see if your pieces have survived that biscuit kiln.
31:00Don't worry if they're not how you had hoped.
31:03You can still give us that magic.
31:05You have been given a range of glazes and three hours to use them, and your time starts...
31:14Now!
31:15Remove the hessian!
31:17Oh, hello.
31:19My Rudolph's lost his nose.
31:21Rudolph the no-nosed reindeer.
31:23Oh!
31:24Oh, no!
31:25What?
31:26Grandpa Robin's lost a wing.
31:28Well, Santa's hat fell off.
31:30The train in Newcastle has no back on it.
31:32No, that seems to have mainly been one bit.
31:35And incidentally, very pleased that the dartboard is still stuck to the inside wall there.
31:40I'm especially pleased with this.
31:41Oh, no, that's what put in the painting, sorry.
31:42The celebrities have a range of underglazes to help bring their North Pole scenes to life.
31:50I think the thing is, is to do colour by colour. Otherwise, you're just gonna cross-pollinate.
31:57The more layers of underglaze they add, the stronger and more defined their colours will become.
32:02It's all about doing it three times. It's so porous, this, that the first layer you put on just disappears, goes straight into it.
32:08So I need to crack on, really, getting some of this paint on, and then on again, and then on again.
32:12I thought I'd start at the roof, and then just figure the rest out later. Whatever colour I feel in the moment, that's what I'll do.
32:21While most of the potters are going with the flow, I want to have a nice, relaxing paint.
32:26Colin is forging ahead.
32:29She's already painted the whole thing yellow.
32:31I worked out, if I spent a minute on every heart I had to paint, I'd have no time.
32:36I can't do the art, but I can do the maths.
32:37Colin's like the Usain Bolt of pottery, but I'm taking a different tactic.
32:43I'm doing VDW, very detailed work.
32:47Everything all right?
32:49Well, I've had a bit of a casualty. Grandpa Robin's wing fell off.
32:53Oh, OK. Usually, you can use glaze to stick things back on, but obviously, it being on the side,
32:59it's probably gonna fall off. So you could paint a wing on there. I could see you doing that.
33:06Really? Yeah. And then it also shows a bit of coping in very difficult circumstances.
33:10Just a bit more original, isn't it? Yeah.
33:12See you later. Thank you.
33:17Potters, that's one hour gone. An hour?
33:20Yeah. That's one bow gone.
33:25How's my wall doing, Tim? It's very good, actually.
33:28Your wall is the one I've got the dartboard on. Have you even painted anything?
33:31What have you been doing? It's inside the house.
33:35Oh, it looks cute.
33:37My praise indeed.
33:40That's not enough, though. Can you need to hurry up?
33:42Well, I realise that, yeah. Thank you.
33:49I love anything, like, artsy and creative. Like, it's a bit of a hot mess,
33:52but it looks like it's meant to be like that.
33:55Oh, I can't wait to take this home.
33:57My little one is going to be very happy with this. I mean, obviously not Percy. I think he'd be horrified.
34:03This is Rudolph's naughty spa. I think Santa's born old and Rudolph never grows up.
34:09So you're Rudolph in this scenario?
34:11Well, no. Santa is 748 years old. I'm 48 and I need to nap in the afternoon.
34:17But you have the best excuse. You do live radio on Christmas Day.
34:23I do. It feels lovely because live radio is company.
34:28Yeah. I feel that...
34:30It's for me as much as for anyone listening. I love it.
34:32We don't realise how important it is to just having a friendly voice.
34:35I completely agree with you. And I either have, will be, or am currently listening to you on the radio right now.
34:42I think that the guys in the dance team would look at this and go, uh, yeah, that's not bad.
34:49Is that red?
34:50Ho, ho, ho!
34:52There's nothing ho, ho, ho going on here. I'll tell you for why.
34:55Because I've been doing incredibly detailed work. I haven't really got very much done.
35:00Do you want to do something that's really fun about Christmas?
35:02Yes. Hello.
35:05Uh...
35:05Oh, I got a cracker.
35:08Where'd you get the cracker from? I'm jealous.
35:11Right. So you ready?
35:12Yeah.
35:15Oh, no. We're halfway.
35:18Well, that's a terrible thing to do to me.
35:20What an awful thing to do.
35:22I was thinking, oh, she's picked me to pull the cracker. That's nice.
35:25That's nice. I've been singled out for that.
35:28That's savage.
35:29And also, I've lost count of my coats.
35:36Should have made a freaking plan. I haven't even done the Yeti yet.
35:40Oh, my God. I love that North Pole sign.
35:43That's my countdown letters.
35:45I love it.
35:46Best game ever.
35:47How are people doing very detailed work in a rush?
35:51Tim, are you doing detailed work?
35:52Nope. Sorry. Just a bit under it here.
35:57Yellow armchair.
35:59Potters!
36:01A reminder of what you're playing for.
36:04Oh, it's so beautiful. Can I touch it?
36:07No. This is going to be yours, or yours, or yours.
36:12Don't come round my bench, lady. You've absolutely burnt your bridges round here.
36:16This looks so bad.
36:21I'm not going to try to stick the back back on, because I feel like that's a lost cause.
36:24It stays facing forward.
36:25My nose has fallen off, so I'm going to paint the backup nose on.
36:29Like, and that way, if it falls off again, there's a backup nose behind it, right?
36:33Oh, yeah. That's essential. Yeah.
36:35I made a mistake. I was going to do the armchair yellow, and I've gone and done this top yellow.
36:39So he can't have the armchair yellow, or he'll disappear.
36:42Come on, Vine. It's basic stuff.
36:44Ho, ho, ho. Hello.
36:46What's that?
36:47This is Santa's hat, but it's now removable.
36:49He doesn't want the hat on all the time, right?
36:50Oh, please. It gets very stuffy. And also, he's indoors. He's not an animal.
36:53Yeah, he doesn't need the hat on. He's got decorum.
36:55Yeah. And a bald head.
36:59Is he not bald?
37:01Yes, he is.
37:01Potters, that's half an hour left.
37:05We've got Potter's wilks from all the dabbing and daubing.
37:08Oh, Timmy, no. Every single brushstroke is over the line.
37:12I don't even know what Santa looks like anymore. What does he look like? I forgot.
37:15Where's red? Absolute carnage. Right.
37:18Just focus on Grandpa Robin. That's the wing. What do we think about that?
37:22Do we think that's very detailed work?
37:25Very proud of Rudolph, because it actually looks like what it's supposed to look like.
37:29Mrs. Claus, you almost did not have hair.
37:32Now she does.
37:36Rudolph's head's just fell off.
37:41What the hell, man? I think I'm going to glaze it back together.
37:46Potters, a reminder that all your items need to be glazed.
37:50And remember, wipe those bottoms.
37:52I don't know that there's anything ready yet.
37:54Yeah, I'm going to go for it. I'm going to go now.
37:55I haven't even done my sprouts yet.
37:57Oh, no, I've just lost my red nose in there.
38:01You haven't. Oh, no, there it is.
38:03Oh, he's all right. Crisis over.
38:05Come on, come on, come on. I mean, this should be very detailed work.
38:08Tim, are you glazing all those peas?
38:11Sprouts. Sprouts, sorry.
38:12No, look, the sprouts is the one thing I'm not glazing.
38:15I can't wipe the bottoms of every single blooming sprout.
38:18I feel like it's going to break.
38:19Go all the way in. You'll be all right.
38:22Guess what, Potters? You've five minutes left.
38:24Am I the only one that hasn't dunked?
38:27Not yeti. Covering up all that hard work.
38:31You're going to have to dunk, Sarah.
38:32Slap it on. Absolutely savage, isn't it?
38:35That's kind of really poorly painted-ish. Oh, well.
38:38You're done. Oh, yeah.
38:40How does everybody not get hysterical doing this?
38:44I can't get it here. I can't get down.
38:48There you go. It's absolute mayhem.
38:51May I just ask whether you think that's the bottom?
38:53That is the bottom. Thank you.
38:55I feel like we've put in nine hours of care
38:57and then ten minutes of ruin in it.
39:03Wait, that looks so nice.
39:05I've never seen this. I've never seen this.
39:07A panicked glazing session before. Really?
39:10Five, four, three, two, one.
39:14Items down. Ye are finished. Well done.
39:18Oh, wow.
39:20Now, the only thing you've left to do is to bring your North Pole scenes down to Princess.
39:26Who's waiting for you in the kiln? Potter's dismissed.
39:28Wouldn't it be awful if you dropped something now?
39:31Don't say that.
39:33I think I've approached this the same way I approach life.
39:35Half a plan, half not a plan.
39:37Just see how it goes.
39:39I'm keeping both my fingers crossed.
39:42I didn't stop for three hours. It was like bang, bang, bang.
39:46Ho, ho.
39:47I've got him.
39:48It's rough and ready, but I think I got through everything.
39:51These sprouts are rolling everywhere.
39:53There's some way of ring-fencing my sprouts.
39:56I think that one of the main things that I've taken away from this is you've got to go for it.
40:01And that's what I've done, is I've gone for it.
40:03Can I say I love your Yeti?
40:05Oh, thank you.
40:06High hopes for him.
40:07Yeah.
40:08Everyone else seemed, like, relatively stressed, but I became hysterical.
40:12Very few bottoms have been wiped. Maybe his.
40:15OK. Don't know about that.
40:18But then I realised that very detailed work means you're about an hour behind.
40:22And there's no point lying.
40:24It was slapdash, and I don't know what Keith's going to have to say about it.
40:37It's Judgment Day, and just like a helpful elf,
40:40Princess is collecting the celebrity Potter's North Pole scenes from the kiln.
40:45I hope we all have something to take home.
40:47I'd like to take home your pieces, not mine.
40:52I've created this teeny little world, unimportant, pointless in many ways,
40:56but it was important to me that all three of the inhabitants of that world were happy.
41:02I'm actually very excited.
41:03There is something really satisfying about making something with your hands
41:08and then having something at the end of it.
41:11I just really, really want it all to be lovely.
41:13Look, there they are!
41:18Blimey!
41:18Oh, look!
41:20Oh, my Lord!
41:22I'm really happy!
41:24Your house is fab.
41:25What is that?
41:26Look at the fire.
41:26What is that?
41:27It's a chocolate fountain, obviously.
41:28Oh, that's gorgeous.
41:29Yeah.
41:30Oh, Colin, look at the detail.
41:32I want to live here.
41:33This is the world you want to live in, right?
41:35I think that's pretty cool.
41:36It actually looks so good.
41:39Oh.
41:40Oh.
41:40Don't look at that.
41:41Don't look at that.
41:44Of the three characters, I think the Santa with the binoculars has come out the best.
41:47I'm pleased with the stairs.
41:49I like the sort of slightly wonkiness to them.
41:52It looks almost deliberate.
41:53I absolutely love my house.
41:55A few weeks ago, I wouldn't even know how to create anything like this.
41:59This is, like, pleasing my soul.
42:01That's not good news.
42:03My roof doesn't fit.
42:05Oh, no.
42:05Are you sure?
42:06Yeah.
42:07If you'd have said to me the roof would be a bit loose and that's it, like, I'd be very happy.
42:11I'm so happy the dog's together.
42:13I just really hope my child likes it.
42:19I mean, I really hope so.
42:20I want this to be like the Christmas thing that we have every Christmas and we go and get it.
42:25And we say, where's Santa Paws?
42:28I am really happy.
42:29I'm really happy.
42:43Well, Potters, I think Santa would be very happy in any of your North Pole scenes,
42:50but, unfortunately, it's not up to me.
42:52It's up to the two judges themselves.
42:54So, shall we get on with it?
42:55Yeah, absolutely.
42:56Okay, then.
42:58Tim, would you please bring your North Pole scene up to the judges?
43:01Wow, Tim.
43:02Serving up the sprouts.
43:08Good grief.
43:13It's a place of fun, games and laughter.
43:20The Santa Claus figure is me.
43:22The other two may be my mum and dad.
43:24And it's a slightly weird way to represent them.
43:27But, nonetheless, they were the people who filled my life with fun and laughter.
43:33And so they are.
43:35It's amazing how the people that you love come into your head.
43:38And you express that through what you make.
43:40And, look, it's a wonderful, joyous sort of scene.
43:43It really is.
43:44I think there's so much, so much to love about this.
43:47I love your stairs.
43:49Where you've carved it with a wire, it's got this lovely softness.
43:52It's kind of this aged quality.
43:53They look warm, don't they?
43:54Yeah, they look warm.
43:55They look great.
43:56Do you know what I love about it the most?
43:58The dartboard.
43:59The dartboard's great.
44:01The dartboard is incredible.
44:03To be able to do that in such a detailed way is really, really wonderful.
44:07And the quality of making is pretty good.
44:09You know, the slabs are nice and thin.
44:11Nothing's opened up.
44:12Actually, on the subjects of the slabs, of course, the back slab was provided by Sarah Hadland.
44:18And what a kind thing to do that was.
44:19Yes, exactly.
44:20Potters, you do tend to find, are very generous, you know.
44:23They give their time, their knowledge, even their slabs.
44:25Yeah.
44:26Great.
44:26Thank you very much.
44:32It's a gingerbread house.
44:34I don't know if you know, but in Newcastle, all the houses are made out of gingerbread.
44:39You know what?
44:39It's fantastic.
44:41This construction is really, really good.
44:43For someone who's never done clay before, that is great.
44:46But we saw that on the wheel as well.
44:48Yeah.
44:49You got a real affinity with the clay.
44:51I know you were a bit upset about the back of your train coming away.
44:55Yeah.
44:55Yeah.
44:56But it's not to take away from what is a really funky little object.
44:59Yeah, it's cute, right?
45:00And Santa's beard, you know?
45:02There's just loads of little quirky details that just kind of make it feel really, really
45:06well thought out.
45:07And you know what?
45:08The reindeer, I really like that.
45:10Do you do?
45:11I do.
45:11Okay, the antler's fallen off.
45:13But it's the fact that the reindeer's really quite expressive.
45:16His head's listening to one side, you know.
45:19Oh, no mind, it's come off.
45:20Yeah.
45:21Because that's how they talk.
45:22Oh, no mind, I'll grow another one.
45:24Exactly, yeah.
45:25So, that really, really works.
45:27Well done, Amber.
45:36Well, look, lovey.
45:39It's great.
45:40It's fantastic.
45:41It's wonderful.
45:42A really bold move to make something this big when you haven't really done anything,
45:46but structurally incredibly sound.
45:49Really, really wonderful.
45:50The construction of your house is almost faultless.
45:54No warpage at all on those slabs.
45:57It would have been nice to see a bit more decoration around the sides, maybe.
46:01Well, I started doing very detailed work.
46:03I remember.
46:04And then it slipped into slapping it on in a slightly hurried fashion.
46:09I mean, I know you lost a wing on your robin, but, you know, you've decorated it back in.
46:14There's just a beautiful simplicity to the design somehow.
46:17It just has a lovely kind of warm, soft quality to it.
46:21I would love to think, if it isn't too maudlin, that maybe when I'm no longer here,
46:25my child would get those out as an adult and be like,
46:29my mum made this and have it as a Christmas tradition, if that's not too bleak.
46:33You've manipulated this, Clay.
46:34You can feel your fingerprints.
46:35That's going to be a direct connection between you and your family.
46:39It's a beautiful, beautiful thing.
46:41Just really lovely.
46:42You should be so proud of it.
46:43Are you surprised by your reaction of what you've made?
46:47Yeah.
46:48Yeah.
46:49Well, that's good, isn't it?
46:51That's great.
46:52Absolutely brilliant.
46:53I mean, I feel a bit sorry for my child that that's what I go through and I read.
46:58But, yeah.
47:00Well done, thank you very much.
47:01It's a wonderful set.
47:02Really lovely.
47:02Well, thank you.
47:04I'll be home for Christmas.
47:11Can I put it together?
47:12Great.
47:13Excellent.
47:14So, Santa's coming home.
47:15So, I wanted to give him what he would want.
47:18After all that work, he wants a bed.
47:20Look at that.
47:22And watch TV.
47:24There's only one thing he's watching, which is you guys, right?
47:27Of course he is.
47:29Wow, look at that.
47:31Amazing.
47:32Second of all, it's very cold.
47:34Oh, nice.
47:34So, let's just get the bubbles into that bath.
47:37But there you go.
47:38So, that's it put together.
47:39Colin, we can see there's a hell of a lot that's gone in here.
47:46The characters are really, really expressive, even down to the dog.
47:50I love the way that you've worked the eyeballs off the head there.
47:54They sort of come out.
47:55It's incredible.
47:56And, you know, it's no mean feat doing letters.
47:59Oh.
47:59Letters are always dodgy.
48:01Because if one goes wrong, you lose that whole concept.
48:04So, well done you.
48:06Completely.
48:06You've managed to kind of impart the most exquisite level of detail.
48:11Rudolph in the hot tub.
48:12His nose stayed on.
48:14His nose stayed on, yeah.
48:15It's great.
48:16I had real problems with my roof.
48:18It's a wee bit wobbly.
48:19Well, you didn't fire that roof on top of the structure.
48:22You fired it flat on the kiln shelf.
48:24It just stretched out in the heat.
48:26But you've given us something so beautifully creative, so wonderfully expressive, you know.
48:31And it just feels like such a joyful celebration of Christmas.
48:36You enjoyed the process, did you?
48:37Yeah, I love it.
48:39Where does the emotion come from?
48:41It's clay and all of a sudden you get overawed by it.
48:43Yeah.
48:43But clay is so expressive and you lose yourself in it.
48:47I mean, I'll just say now, and Rich hopefully will agree with me, you've done amazingly well.
48:54Oh.
48:54You really have.
48:55I mean, it's fantastic to see all your pieces here.
48:59And I hope you all had a really positive experience from it, because we're just so
49:04pleased and appreciative of you making your memories in clay for us.
49:09It's fantastic.
49:10Yeah, wonderful.
49:12Congratulations.
49:13You should be so proud.
49:14Well done.
49:14Thank you, Colin.
49:15Thanks for all your help.
49:15Well done, lovey.
49:16Brilliant.
49:17Well done, Colin.
49:18Well done, Colin.
49:19Nice work.
49:21Well done, mate.
49:22Oh.
49:22Potters, you've made it very difficult for our judges.
49:27And for that, I personally thank you.
49:31Now you all deserve a bit of a rest while our judges decide who will be our festive champion.
49:36Potters dismissed and well done.
49:38Well done.
49:39Great work.
49:40Well done, Jane.
49:40Did you cry?
49:41That was amazing.
49:43I'll be honest, like, I've watched this.
49:48I've had friends on this.
49:50And I've never connected to why it's emotional.
49:54I get it now.
49:56When you've finished your piece, it's frozen in time.
50:00That's amazing.
50:01I think my favourite comment has to be that basically they have a natural talent for pottery,
50:06which I think is the biggest compliment I can get.
50:08I was delighted with what they said.
50:10They seem to genuinely like it.
50:12And to get any compliments from these people who know what they're doing is a thrill.
50:16They were just so generous and lovely about what we've made.
50:19Within families, it's lovely to have traditions.
50:22It's what really makes your Christmas memories really special.
50:26And I hope that my child will be holding Percy dressed as Santa on top of an ice bath.
50:32And A will go, that was our beloved family cat.
50:35And that will say, my mum made that.
50:40And that will be really special.
50:51What a gang.
50:52Absolutely.
50:53They've done really well, haven't they?
50:54They have.
50:54And I think they all had a really genuinely positive experience from it.
50:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
50:59I think it shows in what they've made.
51:01You occasionally get someone who displays an innate affinity with the clay.
51:07We've had that with Amber, haven't we?
51:08Yeah, she just was really patient with the clay.
51:11And that's what you need to be.
51:12Yeah.
51:13You know, that slow, very centred, very calculated approach really worked in her favour.
51:17It did.
51:17And you could see that with what she'd made for her North Pole scene.
51:20Tim had fun.
51:22Yeah, he did.
51:22Yeah, out of all our pots, he had the most out there story.
51:25Every single piece played its part in this wonderful story of his family.
51:30A slight lack of knowledge with the clay, but the staircase was a marvel.
51:34That's where that lack of knowledge can really pay off.
51:36Yeah, yeah.
51:37You take those risks where you wouldn't ordinarily.
51:39And I think he was really pleased with it as well.
51:42And of course, Colin, how he managed to get so much done, like the energy.
51:47I mean, the moment he opened the bag, he was on it.
51:50He was really, really focused, wasn't he?
51:52And the level of detail, the intricacy in the surfaces was just extraordinary.
51:57What do you think about Sarah's North Pole scene?
52:00The construction of that house, the construction of Santa Paws was really lovely.
52:05Really nice.
52:05All of the individual components, all of the modelled figures had such character.
52:10And a lovely story as well.
52:11Yeah.
52:12Do you know who's going to be Fester Potter?
52:14Is there a winner?
52:14I think it's a decision between two of them.
52:17Ooh.
52:18Well, I'll leave you to ruminate on that.
52:21But before we go, let's pull a cracker.
52:23Yes.
52:24Happy Christmas, guys.
52:25Finally.
52:26Finally.
52:27One, two, three.
52:28Yay!
52:30Happy Christmas!
52:31It's a story of my life.
52:32As Keith and Rich make their final decision, a crowd has gathered to hear who will be the
52:45winner of this year's festive Pottery Throwdown.
52:48Welcome to this year's festive final.
53:04It's great to see you all and to have the band back.
53:06Hi.
53:07Hi.
53:07Hi.
53:09Please, will you give an incredibly warm welcome to our fabulous Celebrity Potters.
53:15Sarah, Amber, Colin and Tim, come on down.
53:28Okay, the judges have made their decision.
53:34The winner of this year's festive Pottery Throwdown is...
53:45Colin!
53:48Congratulations!
53:50Well done!
53:52With a small c, I'm a pottery champion.
53:55Like, if I went into the normal series, you wouldn't even pick me out of the audition.
54:01I thought what I was bad at, at school I had to be bad at forever.
54:05That's not true.
54:07So I'm proud of myself definitely for that.
54:08I'm proud of everyone whose name is on this.
54:10Well done, really well done, really well done.
54:14Colin, I mean, talk about investment.
54:16His North Pole concept was wonderful.
54:19The attention to detail, the attention to decoration,
54:22and I'm so glad it all really came together for you.
54:25Colin put so much focus, work and dedication in it, all of it,
54:30that it actually would have been a travesty if it wasn't him.
54:32I've absolutely loved this. Did I make Keith cry? I think I did.
54:43His eyes were moist.
54:44But I just want to see my child's reaction to what I've made.
54:48That's going to be the biggest judging.
54:50We wish you a merry Christmas, fella, how big you...
54:54The main thing I'm going to take away from this is actually the desire to have another go again.
54:59Keith said this would happen and we should always believe what Keith says.
55:02And I do. I want to have another go at it.
55:04Christmas and a happy new year
55:07What a fantastic bunch of celebrity potters we've had.
55:11All of them embraced the process of making with clay
55:14and just had the most fantastic time.
55:16I mean, what more could you ask for for Christmas?
55:21Happy Christmas, viewers!
55:23Happy Christmas!
55:26Happy Christmas!
55:27Happy Christmas!
55:28Happy Christmas!
