Hi, I'm Eva Schoenaik here. This is how I host. Come on in.
00:09
So today I'm hosting a Sunday family lunch.
00:11
People often think that a Sunday lunch will be very simple, but I love to go overboard and bring color and pattern into play.
00:17
So the table is literally the centerpiece of our living space.
00:20
I love it because it's large, it's bold, and when I style it, I also like people to see the actual wood
00:27
because it has a feeling, it has stories to tell, so I love it.
00:30
So when I started tablescape, color is the foundation for me, for any tablescape.
00:35
Generally for my designs, I always think about color first.
00:38
I'm going to add a lot of other colors, but my foundation or my key colors are pink and green.
00:43
And I'm taking all the details, all the little items that I love, that are my favorites, that are in this cabinet,
00:48
to style the table and give it real personality.
00:51
So the first stage of my tablescape is laying the placemats.
00:55
They're really plain in comparison to what else I'm going to put on, but it's quite a nice contrast.
01:01
It also works really well with the sparkling table runner there.
01:05
So it gives you a bit of texture and a bit of frills.
01:10
You hardly find plates with African patterns.
01:14
Every plate is different, everything is colorful, patterned, but nothing really matches.
01:19
So I think they're perfect for this.
01:21
So even when it comes to the dishes that I'm preparing, I love to bring color into play.
01:26
I love greens, I love fresh vegetables, maybe light fish.
01:29
To have conversations over a nice meal, but nothing too precious.
01:32
Something that's just fun and easy to digest.
01:34
So this is a really beautiful cutlery.
01:39
My parents actually got, I think it must have been in the 1980s, on a trip to Florence.
01:45
And they look all different and I like that.
01:47
They have a nice shine to them.
01:49
So it kind of frames it nicely, I like that.
01:51
So I've only got four coasters of these really beautiful amber-colored glass ones.
01:56
But then I also have some really nice African-inspired raffia.
01:59
So I'm just going to do a mix and match.
02:06
So I picked these glasses up in a charity shop the other week.
02:09
And I have a lot of glasses, but they just spoke to me.
02:12
Just really, really beautiful bubbles.
02:14
And they're quite heavy.
02:15
And I love the way the kind of purple-pink color kind of fades in at the bottom.
02:19
Perfect for my tablescapes.
02:21
So I think today I'm going to make this beautiful orchid my centerpiece.
02:28
It's wide, really floaty, and it doesn't interfere with the colors.
02:31
But this basket I picked up in Marrakesh.
02:34
It's perfect if you want to put breads in or potatoes.
02:37
It keeps them nice and warm.
02:39
And I like it, I think, at the end of the table here.
02:42
Next is to get the vases for all the greens and all the foliage and everything I'm going to put on the table.
02:50
So I'm just going to put them down for now.
02:52
And once I have decided which plants and flowers go into which, I'm going to style them properly.
02:58
Really beautiful tangene, which we use for salt and pepper.
03:01
I love Marrakesh for its beautiful table accessories.
03:04
I'm very kind of clear with the curation when I put a tablescape together.
03:07
Does it fit in?
03:08
If it doesn't fit in, it doesn't come onto this table.
03:10
I love these elephants.
03:11
They're very, very heavy.
03:13
And someone told me to always place elephants towards the door for kind of good luck and prosperity.
03:19
So we're going to place them towards the door.
03:22
But when our guests come and share with us, we have a conversation starter.
03:25
I love napkins.
03:26
I love cloth napkins.
03:27
I think they elevate a table.
03:29
I've got my own napkins design.
03:31
I'm a textile and interior designer.
03:33
They're inspired by Kano, which is a city in northern Nigeria, which is well known for its beautiful architecture.
03:39
You can have them in a really minimalist setting and they're just the wow effect.
03:45
For the next step, I'm going to arrange some flowers just to bring a bit of color, a bit of texture to the table.
03:50
Also a bit of height that we can play a little bit with the layering.
03:53
So when I was a kid, we always had family lunches and my parents had a kid's table where we sat separate from them.
04:00
But what I love here, we all sit together.
04:02
We are all so busy and, you know, everyone is doing their own things.
04:05
My kids are at teenage age, so, you know, they have their own life.
04:08
Coming together on a Sunday lunch is the time when we really get together with family.
04:13
We laugh, we debate, we discuss what happened during the week.
04:16
Something like this actually looks really nice. I think that may already be enough.
04:24
They bring life to the table. I really feel like there's more going on right now.
04:28
I just have to place them in the right spot.
04:30
So I'm really happy with the tablescape. It just looks really nice and welcoming.
04:36
They're little personal stories kind of intertwined in it.
04:39
Travels we did together, things that I experienced by myself, it's all coming here together.
04:43
So I think it's more than just like an aesthetic look.
04:46
It's a real kind of story, conversation starter, but also something which is really personal to me and my family.
04:53
I think my family will really enjoy the Sunday lunch here today.
04:56
I have this really beautiful goat spell which was given to me when I was a child on a hiking trip in Switzerland by a farmer.
05:05
I'm going to use that to call them in a second.
05:07
Thank you so much for joining me and I hope you loved it.
05:13
Still so much fun.
05:14
I will show you you guys I've been here who Marchegiani other people and everyone.
05:15
Never ever know why.
05:17
You guys are such an amazing event.
05:20
Have you been back.
05:21
You have been a crazy scout, and you have to kind of share.
05:22
All right, twelve videos.
05:24
I've seen theštengi plac radii, which I'm my favorite team.
05:26
Me too, therefore, my son, not my desire.
05:27
I love what you wanted to be like today.
05:28
I'm going to have a great track.
05:30
I've seen the
