People flock to Bethlehem to celebrate Christmas after two years of war on Dec. 24, 2025, as a precarious ceasefire in Gaza enters its second month. Most years, Bethlehem basks in the central place it holds in the Christian story of Jesus' life.
He was born there in a stable because there was no room for his parents at the inn and was placed in an animal's manger, the humblest of all possible beds.
Thousands of Palestinians and tourists filled the square, erupting in cheers when singers and performances took place at Manger square.
But for the past two years tourism dropped in the city, and Christmas festivals were cancelled.
