00:00Alexa finally escapes Echo Speakers with a web version.
00:04For years, Amazon's Alexa has lived a mostly stationary life, stuck inside Echo Speakers,
00:09occasionally yelling reminders from the kitchen counter.
00:12Now, Alexa is discovering the wider internet.
00:15Amazon has begun rolling out a web-based version of its next-generation assistant, Alexa Plus,
00:21giving users a brand new way to chat with it that doesn't involve shouting across the
00:25room.
00:26For some users, typing Alexa.com into a browser now opens a full chatbot-style interface.
00:32Alexa Plus now features a text box, suggested prompts, and copy buttons, giving it a Chat
00:39GPT or Google Gemini-like interface.
00:42Intentionally familiar to users?
00:44The web version lets users type instead of talk, upload files for Alexa Plus to analyze,
00:49and manage everyday things like shopping lists and calendars on a proper screen.
00:54There's also a sidebar that pulls in your chat history from Echo devices, basic smart
00:58home controls, and access to uploaded documents.
01:01In theory, you can start a conversation in your living room and finish it at your desk without
01:06explaining everything again.
01:08Amazon is pitching this as a productivity upgrade, and honestly, it makes sense.
01:13While tasks like document editing or file review are cumbersome with voice commands, using
01:17a keyboard and mouse makes them easy.
01:20Alexa Plus can plan trips, write letters, create study guides, analyze files, shop and
01:26book restaurants, but it still feels a bit unpolished.
01:30The web interface is noticeably more barebones than its rivals, lacking advanced features like
01:35custom bots, creative canvases, or deep file handling.
01:38It works, but it doesn't yet feel like a power user's playground.
01:43For now, Alexa Plus is free while Amazon tests things out.
01:46Eventually it'll be bundled with Amazon Prime, while non-Prime users will face a $20 monthly
01:51fee.
01:52Still, putting Alexa Plus on the web is Amazon's clearest signal yet that it wants Alexa to compete
01:57with modern AI chatbots, not just turn off your lights.
02:01The question now isn't whether Alexa can chat, it's whether people will finally start typing
02:05to her on purpose.
