00:00En este episodio, tenemos un doctor vanishing, una nuke-loving, villainous Prime Minister
00:10y también una pequeña chica que oscura la mierda de todo el mundo que ella habla.
00:15Bienvenidos a Doctor Who Unleashed.
00:18Comenzamos, ¿qué dice la chica realmente para hacer la gente rune?
00:22No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:30Doctor Who baddie.
00:31It's always more fun to play a villain. Romeo's boring, you know, like, it's so wet.
00:37And spoiler alert, we've got an Unleashed exclusive clip from the next episode of Doctor Who.
00:52Welcome to Cardiff, centre of the Who-niverse.
00:57You're watching Doctor Who Unleashed, the show that gives you VIP access to all things Who.
01:04In this episode, we'll draw back the curtain on the making of 73 Yards, a spooky story that threatens to go nuclear.
01:12And don't look now, there are going to be spoilers.
01:16But first, let me twist your mind.
01:19Today is Monday, the 5th of December, 2022, and we're here in Wolf Studios in Cardiff and about to film Ruby's ageing sequence when she goes from her 20s to her 30s to her 40s.
01:32But do you want to know something a bit weird?
01:34Even though we've seen loads of Ruby in the series already, and even though you've seen plenty of me in the previous episodes of Unleashed...
01:41Hello, Unleashed.
01:42This is actually my first day on set for this series.
01:47One of the many strange things about making a drama is that nothing gets filmed in the right order.
01:53So for reasons that will soon become apparent, episodes 1 and 3 of this series aren't being filmed until March 2023, and episode 2 will turn over in April.
02:04But here and now, in December 2022, we're filming episode 4.
02:11Are you with me? It is Doctor Who. We're constantly travelling through time and space.
02:15So yes, genuinely, this is my first day on set for the new series.
02:19So lots of the crew you can see milling around behind me might have featured on some of the earlier episodes of Unleashed.
02:25But at this moment in time, I've not met any of them, I've not spoken to them, and I've certainly not filmed with any of them.
02:31And the first person I need to meet is the star of 73 Yards.
02:37No, not the Doctor, let's be honest. He's hardly in this episode.
02:40It's the companion Ruby Sunday, played by 18-year-old Millie Gibson, who's also enjoying the first day on set.
02:48Hello, has anybody seen Millie anywhere? Has anybody...
02:51Oh, you're there! Sorry! I didn't see you behind the court!
02:55He's only... I'm not coming, it's a minute away!
02:58I'm sorry. I thought you were going to be...
03:01I don't know, I knew you were doing a photo shoot.
03:02A big transformation! I thought it was going to be big, you want to be on like a big plinth or something.
03:05I was more shocked than you, and no one knew you were coming.
03:09Hello, nice to meet you.
03:11That's not a great first impression to give, is it?
03:13Can I go on that side? This is my good place.
03:14Oh, yeah, of course, I've got a bad set this day.
03:16Oh, well, you know.
03:17I'll put up it just for you.
03:18Thanks, Cam, Jesus.
03:19Well, this is mad, isn't it?
03:20I know, it's bloody crazy, yeah.
03:22Yeah. Are you finding it so far?
03:24Yeah, it's been the most incredible start to the journey.
03:29I mean, I wouldn't think I was going to be in this get-all for my first scene.
03:32Yeah. Is that a wig?
03:33That is a wig.
03:34It's really a good wig, isn't it?
03:35It's a good wig, is it?
03:36I'm just trying to see where the wig starts.
03:38Well, you know, that secret can't be revealed.
03:41Yeah, it can't be revealed.
03:42You look a bit older than normal here, aren't you?
03:45Yes, so this is Ruby when she's 25.
03:4825?
03:49Yeah.
03:49So, yeah, we've just put the wig on and a bit of dull make-up,
03:52cos she's not the best in this thing.
03:54No, she's struggling, isn't she?
03:55She's a bit depressed.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah, she is a bit depressed.
03:58Well, it's going to be easy for you to go and, you know,
04:00be depressed now in the next scene,
04:01cos you've just had to spend five minutes in my company.
04:03Oh, my gosh.
04:04Well, it's been lovely to meet you.
04:05Oh, it's been lovely to meet you.
04:06And good luck with all the make-up and stuff.
04:08Oh, yeah.
04:08And the next time I see you on set,
04:09I'll just be sure that I, you know,
04:11I don't...
04:12Where's Millie?
04:12..not realise who you're there.
04:14Have you ever seen Millie?
04:15Yeah, just the star of the TV show
04:17that I didn't recognise in the flesh.
04:20That's great.
04:20But that's great, cos...
04:22Shall we scrap this?
04:23This works.
04:23Shall we do it again?
04:24Yeah, yeah, shall we just start again, please?
04:25Shall we start again?
04:26You go back there.
04:26Yeah, OK.
04:27I'll come over here and we'll do it all again.
04:28Right, see you in five.
04:29Nah, there's no time for that.
04:31We've got too much to get in to go back.
04:32So we've established that Millie is flying solo
04:36on her first gig as Ruby.
04:38No doctor in sight to support her,
04:41just straight in at the deep end.
04:43We also know that this series is being filmed
04:45out of sequence, so why is that?
04:48What exactly was Russell T Davies thinking?
04:51The whole set-up of this is partly because
04:52Shooty is busy filming sex education.
04:55We had to start filming,
04:57so we kind of happily embraced that opportunity
04:58to say, let's focus on Millie as Ruby.
05:01And that gives you a chance to explore her character.
05:05It gives us a chance to explore her as an actor.
05:07And it's really rewarding.
05:08It's really paying back.
05:09She's doing the most brilliant job.
05:10OK.
05:12Very clever.
05:15Very clever.
05:17What is a joy watching this
05:19is seeing that Millie was part of a huge cast
05:22on Coronation Street,
05:23hugely famous because of that.
05:25But the culture shock, I think, for her,
05:27of coming on to Doctor Who,
05:28which is a huge, big, important show
05:31and being not just the lead actor
05:33but the lead of the whole set
05:34is a huge thing to put on someone's shoulders
05:38when they're that young
05:39and she's just been absolutely magnificent.
05:41I've never done anything like that before.
05:43I mean, I sort of went from
05:45doing a bit of a cough and a spit of the cobbles
05:47and then sort of coming on to this
05:48and it's like, right,
05:49so we're starting with your own episode
05:51and I'm like, what?
05:53Millie is amazing.
05:54She's our youngest cast member.
05:56She is brand new to the series and this world
05:59but yet she always gives these amazing performances,
06:02these amazing, really heartfelt performances.
06:05I've cried so many times watching episode four.
06:07It's incredible.
06:09I just hope it's turned out well
06:10but, yeah, I just, I'm excited to see it.
06:14I think it's going to be funny seeing myself at 40.
06:18There's no other opportunity
06:19in which we'll ever see Ruby's life pass
06:22without the Doctor and her strength
06:24and her dedication
06:25and the fact she never gives up.
06:28And it shows that when the world's in danger,
06:30actually, some people in this Doctor Who world,
06:32these people who are companions,
06:34step forward and are strong enough
06:37to become the people who save the world.
06:42This episode had some complex set-ups.
06:45Clifftops, city centre sieges,
06:48a spooky storm-wracked pub.
06:50For the Who crew, though,
06:52the most challenging scene was one of the shortest.
06:56Ruby's train journey to London
06:57takes up just 20 seconds of the episode
07:00but it required teamwork, military precision
07:03and a race against the clock to pull it off.
07:05Ready? Let's go.
07:07So today we are going to be filming on a train
07:13that has originated at London Paddington
07:16and it's going to go through to Swansea.
07:18We are here now at Newport train station
07:20with the camera and the grips team.
07:23We'll be getting on here,
07:24getting the kit on
07:25and then meeting everyone else at Cardiff
07:27to then get the rest of the departments on
07:29and start filming on the train.
07:31It's 90 seconds to get on the train
07:33so that's a minute and a half
07:34so hopefully, fingers crossed,
07:37everything goes well.
07:38It's going to be stressful
07:39but I think we can do it.
07:41Yeah, I think it's going to be
07:42a little bit stressful
07:44but yeah, we'll get it done.
07:45I think if we miss it, we miss it,
07:47so yeah, it should be alright.
07:49So I've got camera grips here.
07:51We're going to get on
07:52and then we'll come to you guys
07:53approximately for about 11.40
07:55so about 10-11 minutes.
07:57Yeah, we're good.
07:58Alright, nice one, Jase.
07:59Thank you very much.
08:00Thanks.
08:00Bye.
08:01That's the Cardiff lock
08:01so they're just asking about
08:03what time the train's estimated to get there
08:05if we're still on schedule
08:07and we are so that's okay.
08:08Yeah, I reckon.
08:09I reckon we'll get 30 seconds.
08:1030 seconds.
08:11Okay.
08:12Well, I'll do it.
08:13As soon as it stops.
08:19Let's go.
08:21We've got 58 seconds to go.
08:24Come on, guys.
08:25Let's go.
08:26Let's get in.
08:26Let's get in.
08:27No, don't chuck it on.
08:28That's not out.
08:29My back's not going to hunt.
08:30We all good?
08:31All good?
08:32Let's go.
08:33Look at that, Jase.
08:3430 seconds.
08:3547 seconds.
08:36You were 30?
08:3730.
08:37We love it.
08:38We love it.
08:39We love it.
08:40We've got 21 seconds to go.
08:41If you let me know,
08:42let me hear this.
08:43You've got 21 seconds
08:44before the train's got to go.
08:46Next stop, Cardiff.
08:49So I got on at Cardiff
08:50with the extras and with Millie.
08:52We'd hired out two carriages
08:54so one carriage was full of the crew
08:55and the second carriage
08:57was obviously where we were filming.
08:59Nice and quiet.
08:59Nice and still everywhere then,
09:00please, for rehearsal.
09:02Thank you.
09:03I don't think we have that long
09:04to do this scene
09:04so it's a good job
09:05I don't have any lines
09:06to mess up on
09:08but it's been really fun.
09:10And action.
09:11We had about half an hour
09:13to get these two or three shots.
09:15As soon as the train
09:16pulled out of Cardiff Station
09:17we were kind of rolling the camera
09:19and going for takes.
09:20The first shot of the scene
09:21is actually this kind of
09:23push-in shot
09:24down the corridor
09:25of the train
09:26which then peels off
09:27and finds Millie sat by the window.
09:29And to execute that
09:30we used a Ronin
09:31which is kind of a gimbal device
09:33a bit like a steadicam
09:34but smaller
09:35which allowed us
09:36to get this kind of smooth shot
09:37but it was really tricky
09:37for the brilliant
09:39camera operator James
09:40because he had to
09:41literally battle against
09:43the kind of natural
09:44rocking motion of a train
09:45and still keep himself steady
09:47and try and get a really smooth
09:48push-in shot on Millie
09:49which he absolutely executed.
09:51Right there, that's pretty good.
09:53Enboard, enboard.
09:53Enboard.
09:54Well done, Mill.
09:56So the current stakes is
09:57we have not just one department
09:59we have two separate departments
10:01to get off this train
10:02in 90 seconds.
10:03Can it be done?
10:05Who knows?
10:06We'll find out.
10:07Are you done?
10:08Thank you.
10:08Right guys, 90 seconds.
10:12We're moving out.
10:14We just arrived at
10:15Cardiff Central Station.
10:17This has been a successful day
10:19on the train.
10:20We've just come back
10:21with one of the emails here.
10:23And we've alighted
10:25the Cardiff Central.
10:26We're going to go into the BBC now
10:27and spend the rest of the day in there.
10:30So, yeah, we're good.
10:31Thank you.
10:31Still to come on Doctor Who Unleashed.
10:38It is just bonkers.
10:39We meet a family daft enough
10:41to let Doctor Who film in their home.
10:42Total chaos.
10:44It is chaos.
10:45I come face to face
10:47with a 73 yards woman.
10:49Bless you.
10:50Bless you.
10:51Thank you so much for the shrug.
10:52Thank you so much for the shrug.
10:54And spoiler alert,
10:55we've got a world exclusive peek
10:57at the next episode of Doctor Who.
10:59But first,
11:02for Millie,
11:04there's only one thing more scary
11:06than being the star of the show.
11:08The woman who stands 73 yards away
11:11throughout the episode.
11:12What unnerves you most
11:15about the woman that is 73 yards away
11:17is that you can never see her face.
11:19Even when Ruby takes a picture of her
11:21and tries to zoom in
11:22and looks at her
11:23and it's all blurry and distorted,
11:25you're like,
11:25what, why?
11:27And it is really creepy.
11:28Like, imagine that
11:30following you around all the time.
11:31I always try to wrap my head around that.
11:33It's horrible.
11:34The concept of 73 yards
11:37is a really interesting one.
11:38So obviously in this episode,
11:40Millie's character,
11:41Ruby,
11:42discovers this old woman
11:4373 yards away from her
11:45who she can never get any closer to.
11:46So no matter how quickly
11:48she walks towards her,
11:49the woman always maintains
11:50a 73 yard distance.
11:52It's 73 yards
11:53simply because when I was writing this,
11:55I had no idea what my distance was.
11:57So to get the distance,
11:59I went out to Swansea Pier
12:00and on Swansea Pier,
12:01the railings are three and a half feet long
12:03so I could measure,
12:04so I literally stood on Swansea Pier
12:06until I could stare
12:07just at people passing by.
12:08So a woman eventually
12:10was about 73 yards away
12:11and I thought,
12:12that's the right distance.
12:13She's a blur,
12:14but she's not a blur.
12:15I can just about see her.
12:16And I handed the script in saying,
12:17that's not exactly
12:18a very scientific method.
12:19I think that's right.
12:20It might be 90,
12:22it might be 60.
12:23It turns out I was right.
12:23But my scientific methods
12:26using railings on Swansea Pier
12:27were exactly right
12:28and we've stuck the 73 yards.
12:31For the crew,
12:32that didn't just mean
12:33plonking the woman 73 yards
12:35from the camera and shooting.
12:37They also required some science.
12:39We did loads of tests.
12:41Sam, our DP,
12:42and Dylan, our director,
12:43they went out
12:44and they measured
12:45what 73 yards was
12:47and then we messed around
12:48with lenses to see
12:49whether we could
12:50trick ourselves
12:51into thinking
12:51it was closer
12:52or further away.
12:53We had to stand
12:54at 73 yards away
12:56to make sure
12:56A, we could see the woman
12:58and she was mysterious enough.
13:00So we had to make sure
13:01that even if we put
13:03a particular lens on it,
13:04we still couldn't see
13:05who she was.
13:07Even on the shoot,
13:08they were still calculating to do.
13:10And action.
13:12So I've been watching
13:12and obviously
13:13it's a logistical challenge,
13:14isn't it?
13:15Yeah.
13:15And a maths one.
13:16To make sure
13:17that she's the same distance
13:18away all the time.
13:18Yeah, totally.
13:19So every time we see
13:21the old woman,
13:21we only see her
13:22from this very particular perspective
13:23which makes you kind of squint
13:24and you never are able
13:25to really see her face
13:27in any great detail.
13:28And that was really
13:28Russell's idea
13:29that was, I think,
13:30pretty much written
13:30into the script.
13:31And when I first saw it,
13:32I sort of thought,
13:33that's not going to work.
13:34I said to Russell, Russell,
13:35that we've got to get closer,
13:36we've got to get some close shots.
13:37And he was like,
13:37no, no, no, trust me,
13:38it'll work.
13:38I was like, okay.
13:39And we tested it
13:40and it worked really well, I think.
13:41And what it means is
13:42you never really get in there
13:43and you're always squinting
13:44and there's something
13:45kind of scary about that, really.
13:47Cut the reset, please.
13:48Cut the reset.
13:49Every time we do a shot like that,
13:50we have to pull up
13:51our kind of favourite
13:52original take
13:53that we first did
13:54and match every other shot
13:56so that the woman
13:56is exactly the same size
13:58in the shot.
13:58So, yes,
13:59it is a bit of a logistical challenge.
14:00It's a headache, isn't it?
14:01Yeah, definitely.
14:02So that's how
14:03the 73-yard woman was filmed.
14:05Though, of course,
14:06what the whole world
14:07actually wants to know
14:08is what on earth she says.
14:12Russell?
14:13You will never know.
14:14I'm never going to tell you
14:15what she says.
14:16It's kind of up to you
14:17to sit there and think,
14:18well, what could someone say
14:19that would make a mother
14:19run away from her daughter forever?
14:21You could look at yourself
14:22and think,
14:23what would make me do that?
14:24And once you start to do that,
14:25you enter the real horror story
14:26that the dreadful things
14:28are being said there.
14:29Terrible things.
14:30We're filming the scene
14:30where Ruby's mum
14:32runs away after speaking
14:33to the woman
14:34at the end of the street.
14:35What do you think
14:36she says to her?
14:37I think she asks her
14:38why she's stalking her daughter
14:40and nobody knows.
14:41Does the woman speak even?
14:43Yeah.
14:43Does she hear
14:44or is she just,
14:45who is she?
14:46Who is she?
14:46Is she a manifestation
14:47of our subconscious?
14:49We don't know.
14:50In this show,
14:52anything could happen.
14:53You're the director.
14:55What do you think
14:55she's saying to people
14:56to make them peg it?
14:58That's a tough question.
14:59I don't know.
15:00I seriously don't know.
15:01I thought long and hard.
15:02I can't come up
15:02with a good answer.
15:03Yeah.
15:04It's whatever the worst
15:05thing is in the world
15:05that that person
15:06could possibly hear.
15:07That's all I tell the actors.
15:09Yeah.
15:09Maybe I do know
15:10and I just don't want
15:10to tell you.
15:10Yeah, maybe.
15:11That's probably what it is.
15:12What do you think
15:12the woman says?
15:13I'm sorry.
15:16Oh, that's quite tea.
15:18Maybe she's saying
15:19that she's her
15:20from the future.
15:21Who knows?
15:22I don't know.
15:23It's a time travel show.
15:24Exactly.
15:25So there's anything's possible.
15:26She could be like,
15:27I'm from the future
15:28and I'm your daughter.
15:30Some people have just gone with,
15:31she's offered them
15:32laws of cash.
15:33Cash?
15:34She wouldn't run away
15:34without having to run cash.
15:36Would you?
15:36I mean, me.
15:37Run to it.
15:38Run to the cash.
15:39She's done to run to the cash.
15:41I think she's talking about
15:42how much she loves
15:43pineapple on pizza.
15:44I think that's really
15:45scaring people off.
15:46You know, I'm not going
15:47to lie to you, Devontae.
15:48I was not expecting that.
15:49To be fair,
15:50if someone said that to me,
15:50I'd run away as well.
15:51Yeah, yeah.
15:52There's got no place
15:53on a pizza.
15:53No, no, unfortunately not.
15:54I can't agree with it.
15:55Yeah.
15:55I can't agree with it.
15:56At one point,
15:56I thought she was saying,
15:57don't listen to this girl,
15:59don't talk to her,
16:01everything will change,
16:03your life will change
16:03in the future.
16:04Yeah.
16:05And that's what made
16:05them run away.
16:06Right.
16:07So that's what I think
16:08she's saying.
16:08Well, we'll never find out.
16:11But we'll never find out.
16:11Or will we?
16:12We're never going to know.
16:15So, the mystery remains
16:17unsolved.
16:19But never fear,
16:19I have one more trick
16:21up my sleeve
16:21before the end
16:22of this episode.
16:27From Cardiff to Bristol
16:28to the West Wales coast,
16:3012 different locations
16:32have been used
16:33in the making
16:33of this episode.
16:35That's lots of councils,
16:37landowners and homeowners
16:38who've allowed the team
16:39onto their properties.
16:41And if you've ever wondered
16:42what it's like
16:43to have the Doctor Who crew
16:44descend on you,
16:46here's a bit of an insight.
16:52This is the White Cross Inn,
16:53set in the hills
16:54above Cofilly
16:55in the rural village
16:56of Groiswen.
16:58The 18th century pub
17:00is doubling
17:00as a Pren Maru,
17:01the dead wood,
17:03the spooky hostelry
17:04with the strange locals
17:05that Ruby Sunday
17:06stumbles into.
17:07But in real life,
17:10it's the business
17:10and home
17:11of landlady Maire.
17:13So Maire,
17:14how did this happen then?
17:16How were we
17:17outside your pub
17:18and there's all
17:19his camera crew
17:20and all his actors
17:21here and all this fuss?
17:23Total chaos.
17:24It is chaos.
17:26Alex rung me one day
17:27and said,
17:28please could you come
17:28and have a look at the pub?
17:29He needed a pub
17:30close to Cardiff
17:31that had stones and beams.
17:33Yeah.
17:33And he came up
17:34and he's seen it
17:34and in a couple of days
17:35he said,
17:36yeah, we'll go with it.
17:37So have you had to close down
17:39for four days then?
17:40Yeah, we shut
17:40from Monday
17:41till Friday afternoon.
17:43That's a big thing
17:44to do, isn't it?
17:45To close down your business
17:45for that one?
17:46It is,
17:47but it is also
17:49really exciting
17:49to have this happening.
17:50The village,
17:51it's good for the village.
17:52I'm sure eventually
17:53there'll be people
17:54looking out,
17:55where was that place
17:56that they filmed at?
17:57Let's go and have a look.
17:58So it'll be good
17:59for the village as well
17:59as for the pub in the future.
18:01And Rich,
18:02as well as working in the pub,
18:03you're a bit of a move,
18:05yeah?
18:05Yeah, I like Doctor Who,
18:06yeah, I love a bit of Doctor Who.
18:07So it's really exciting for me
18:09to have a childhood dream come true
18:12and see how it all works.
18:14It's a new era as well,
18:15you know,
18:15this is being filmed now
18:17in 2022,
18:19but it won't be aired
18:19until 2024,
18:20so I'll have to keep
18:22stum for quite a while.
18:23Yeah, you'll have to keep
18:23a secret for ages.
18:24Yeah.
18:25So what practically,
18:27what does it mean then?
18:28For you, Ma,
18:28so obviously you've had
18:29to tell the locals,
18:30listen,
18:31sorry team,
18:32see you in a week.
18:33See you in a week.
18:34Sorry boys,
18:34we are shutting,
18:35you know,
18:36through the week,
18:36there are things,
18:37we have a quiz on a Tuesday,
18:38this Wednesday
18:39would have been
18:40nitta natta
18:40with the girls
18:41come and have a chat and that.
18:42Yeah.
18:43Monday would have been dart.
18:44So while there is
18:47movement every night
18:48in the pub,
18:49something's going on,
18:50they all understood,
18:52you know,
18:52it was something
18:53we couldn't really turn down.
18:54Yeah.
18:55But never in a million years
18:56did I realise
18:57that it was going to be
18:58not so much disruptive
19:00because you've given
19:00the pub over to them,
19:01but there's so much going on.
19:03It is just bonkers
19:04how many people are here.
19:06So are you trying
19:06to avoid spoilers
19:07so you get to watch it
19:09for real
19:09when it goes out
19:10on the show?
19:11I have been having
19:12a sneaky look
19:13on the monitors
19:13but you can't hear
19:14what they're saying
19:14on the monitors.
19:15Yeah.
19:15So it's,
19:16I can't lip read
19:17very well either.
19:17So, you know,
19:19it's just nice
19:20to sort of,
19:21you know,
19:22know that at some point
19:23in 2024
19:24I'll see,
19:25you know,
19:26the White Cross
19:26pretending to be
19:28whichever pub it is trying
19:30to...
19:30Yeah,
19:30Pren Maru,
19:31Deadwood.
19:32Yeah.
19:32Pren Maru.
19:33I said,
19:33you need to keep the sign up,
19:34there's plenty of Deadwood
19:35up here.
19:36You should just keep that.
19:37And on that note,
19:39thank you very much
19:40for chatting to us.
19:42The villagers
19:43are going to see that now,
19:44they're not going to be
19:44happy to hear you,
19:44are they?
19:53Traditionally,
19:53Doctor Who 4s
19:54tend to be
19:55otherworldly.
19:57But in this episode,
19:58the monster
19:58is 100% human.
20:05Roger Apguilliam,
20:06a nuke-loving,
20:08fictional
20:08future Prime Minister
20:10is brought to life
20:11with sinister relish
20:12by Anairin Barnard.
20:14But how hard is it
20:15to play the bad man?
20:16It's always more fun
20:17to play a villain.
20:18Romeo's boring,
20:19you know,
20:19like,
20:20it's so wet.
20:22Do you know what I mean?
20:23It's not really
20:23that attractive.
20:24I mean,
20:25most people are attractive
20:26to the bad guy anyway
20:27or the bad girl,
20:28you know,
20:28it's what we love.
20:29I will go
20:30to his majesty
20:31and prepare
20:33for government.
20:35Anairin Barnard
20:36is prime casting
20:37for Roger
20:38because I wanted
20:39someone young
20:39and it'd be very easy
20:40to cast a man
20:41in their 50s and 60s
20:42as a prime minister figure.
20:44But actually,
20:44we're in the future,
20:45you kind of look
20:46at the way things are going,
20:47you look at
20:48the power of young men online,
20:50terrible young men online,
20:51I'm not even going to name,
20:52who gather worship
20:54around them.
20:55Not that Roger's that exactly,
20:56he is a politician,
20:57but he's social media savvy.
20:59He's the future of politics,
21:00I think.
21:01He's a grafter,
21:02he's clever,
21:02but he's a user as well.
21:04He's using all this stuff
21:05for his own aims
21:06and is secretly
21:07quite insane.
21:10Roger's a bit
21:10of a complicated one,
21:11really.
21:12You know,
21:12he's gunning
21:13for extreme power
21:14on the world stage.
21:17He wants to be
21:17the center of attention.
21:19One thing with Roger
21:20is there is
21:20no empathy whatsoever.
21:22There's a huge charisma,
21:23there's a huge charm,
21:24but it's just a tool.
21:26It's just there
21:26to manipulate others
21:27so he can get
21:28what he wants,
21:29even though he says
21:30what he's trying to do
21:30is unite the United Kingdom
21:32to be the greatest nation
21:33in the world.
21:34He doesn't really care
21:36about that.
21:37He cares about
21:37how powerful he is.
21:38Excuse me,
21:39I'm sorry.
21:40Are you saying
21:41that you actually
21:42want to fire
21:43a nuclear missile?
21:47Well,
21:47cut that bit out,
21:48right?
21:49I'm quite fascinated
21:50with people
21:51who are quite powerful
21:52and dangerous
21:53and, you know,
21:54have really lost their way.
21:55For me,
21:56selfishly as an actor,
21:57they're way more engaging.
21:59You know,
21:59to come and play
22:00someone who doesn't care
22:01about anyone else
22:01but themselves
22:02is quite a lot of fun,
22:03really.
22:0873 Yards
22:09sees the return
22:10of the Unified Intelligence
22:11Task Force,
22:12a.k.a. UNIT.
22:15Created in the Hooniverse
22:16by the United Nations,
22:18UNIT is a military organisation
22:19where the Doctor helps
22:21defend Earth
22:21from extraterrestrial
22:23and paranormal threats.
22:26Since the 60th anniversary
22:27specials,
22:28UNIT has been housed
22:29in a swanky new tower block
22:31in central London.
22:33A major step up
22:33from its first appearance
22:34way back in 1968
22:36when the Web of Fear
22:37saw the newly formed
22:39elite band
22:40being pursued
22:41through disused
22:41tube tunnels
22:42by killer yetis.
22:43into the 1970s,
22:47UNIT was led by
22:49Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon
22:50Lethbridge-Stewart
22:51who helped the Doctor
22:53overcome everything
22:54from Daleks
22:55in Day of the Daleks
22:56to murder us maggots
22:58to murder us maggots
22:58in the Green Death.
22:59Jumping forward to 2012,
23:03Kate Lethbridge-Stewart,
23:05daughter of Brigadier General
23:06Sir Alistair,
23:07played by Gemma Redgrave,
23:09was appointed UNIT's
23:10Chief Scientific Officer,
23:12the role she holds
23:13to this day.
23:17In Newport City Centre,
23:19the Doctor Who crew
23:20gather to shoot
23:21a mini action sequence
23:23where Kate and UNIT
23:24attempt to come
23:25to the rescue
23:26of Ruby Sunday.
23:27I'm Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
23:29and I think I can help.
23:32Any time we shoot
23:33on a high street,
23:34it's quite a big deal
23:35for us.
23:36We have a lot of fans
23:37show up,
23:38which is really lovely,
23:39but at the same time,
23:40we become responsible
23:40for their safety as well.
23:42Road closures,
23:44most fun in the
23:45location department's life.
23:47And then when you add
23:48stunts,
23:48when you add people
23:49with guns
23:49and you add fast-moving cars,
23:51that, again,
23:52ensuring everyone's safety,
23:54making sure everyone
23:55is happy,
23:56everyone knows
23:56what they're doing.
23:57And it was raining,
23:58which was really fun.
24:01Rain?
24:02Rainy stunts?
24:04Even more rain?
24:06Water off a duck's back.
24:07So what was the one thing
24:09that threatened
24:10to sink the whole sequence?
24:12Two fellas in a shop window.
24:16We were filming
24:17the final shot of the day.
24:19We were losing light.
24:20We had no time.
24:21It was incredibly stressful.
24:22We had to get this wide shot
24:24of the cafe
24:25where they were seated.
24:26And suddenly,
24:26I look up
24:27and I see these, like,
24:28two guys standing
24:29in the shop
24:30across the road.
24:31And I think,
24:32that's really bizarre.
24:34Like, they're so
24:34massively in the shop.
24:36So, kind of naively,
24:38I just headed over there
24:39to talk to these two men.
24:40I didn't know who they were.
24:41And I just said,
24:42you know, guys,
24:42you're right in the back
24:43of our shop.
24:44Would you mind please moving?
24:45And they were like,
24:46no.
24:47And I was like,
24:47OK, cool.
24:48Thanks.
24:49Turns out they were
24:50press photographers
24:51hoping to get some shots
24:52of Millie and Gemma.
24:54Bit of a standoff ensued,
24:56but who would snap first?
24:57The snappers
24:58or the crew?
25:00I thought, you know what,
25:00I might as well try one more time.
25:02I made about five minutes
25:03left at this point
25:04and they were literally
25:05ruining the kind of
25:05very important shots.
25:06So, I was like,
25:07OK, I'm going to try again
25:07and I went back.
25:09And this time,
25:09I can't even remember
25:10what I said,
25:10but I was, you know,
25:11in that state
25:12which directors are often in
25:13of just being so intensely stressed.
25:16I think I just sort of begged
25:17and almost got down
25:18on my knees and said,
25:19please,
25:20I kind of, you know,
25:21humiliated myself,
25:22but said, you know,
25:23we're really at our wits end here.
25:24We've got one more shot to get.
25:25We've got five minutes of light.
25:27Would you please,
25:27please, please mind
25:28moving out of the shot,
25:30which for some reason they did.
25:32So, it was great.
25:32I kind of couldn't believe it,
25:33but they eventually agreed to move.
25:36In the end,
25:36we did manage to just about
25:38get the shot.
25:39So, there was a happy ending.
25:41Thank you.
25:41Thank you.
25:42Thank you.
25:42Thank you.
25:43Thank you.
25:45Thank you.
25:50One of the fantastic things
25:51about Doctor Who Unleashed
25:52is the fact that we get to places
25:54that other shows
25:55could only dream of.
25:57So, right now,
25:57we've got an exclusive
25:59that even the main show
26:00couldn't get their hands on.
26:02Take that, Russell.
26:03Here's our interview
26:03with the 73 Yards woman.
26:06I suppose the first thing
26:07is to say is
26:08what was it like
26:09when you found out
26:10that you were going to
26:10be playing this character
26:11and you started
26:12finding out more about her?
26:14What was that like?
26:14I don't know anything about her.
26:16They haven't told me anything.
26:17I don't know who she is.
26:19I don't know what she's there for.
26:21And I don't really know
26:23what she's saying.
26:23I have a little script
26:25sort of to follow
26:26but the words I'm saying
26:27are pretty meaningless, really.
26:29but Paul, the movement coach,
26:31gave me a little
26:32sort of scenario
26:33and script
26:34and so I've stuck to that
26:35and it seems to be working fine.
26:37I've been watching you
26:38for a while now
26:39doing the scene.
26:40Right.
26:40You've got a very specific
26:41set of movements, haven't you?
26:42Right.
26:42What are you up to?
26:44Hold my hot water bottle
26:45and I'll demonstrate.
26:45This wasn't an excuse
26:46just so I could hold
26:47your hot water bottle, Hillary.
26:48I promise.
26:49What I'm doing
26:49is I'm saying
26:50bless you.
26:51Thank you so much.
26:53That's so kind of you
26:54when you gave me
26:55that little thing
26:56that was just so precious.
26:58How am I ever
26:59going to repay you?
27:00But we'll think of something.
27:02I'm back to the beginning.
27:03Bless you.
27:04That's it.
27:05Wow.
27:05Because here
27:05without even hearing it
27:06it looks really sinister
27:07but when you say
27:08those nice words
27:08there's nothing scary
27:10about what I'm actually
