00:00In this episode, we've got a vanishing doctor, a nuke-loving, villainous Prime Minister,
00:15and also a little old lady who scares the hell out of everybody she speaks to.
00:20Welcome to Doctor Who Unleashed.
00:23Coming up, what does the old lady really say to make people run away?
00:27Mum, don't listen to her! Mum, don't!
00:31Guest star Anaïrin Barnard reveals the appeal of playing a Doctor Who baddie.
00:36It's always more fun to play villain. Romeo's boring, you know? Like, he's so wet.
00:42And spoiler alert, we've got an Unleashed exclusive clip from the next episode of Doctor Who.
00:57Welcome to Cardiff, centre of the Hooniverse.
01:02You're watching Doctor Who Unleashed, the show that gives you VIP access to all things Hoon.
01:09In this episode, we'll draw back the curtain on the making of 73 Yards, a spooky story that threatens to go nuclear.
01:17And don't look now, there are going to be spoilers.
01:21But first, let me twist your mind.
01:25Today is Monday, the 5th of December, 2022, and we're here in Wolf Studios in Cardiff,
01:31and about to film Ruby's ageing sequence when she goes from her 20s to her 30s to her 40s.
01:37But, do you want to know something a bit weird?
01:39Even though we've seen loads of Ruby in the series already,
01:42and even though you've seen plenty of me in the previous episodes of Unleashed...
01:46Hello, Unleashed.
01:48This is actually my first day on set for this series.
01:52One of the many strange things about making a drama is that nothing gets filmed in the right order.
01:58So, for reasons that will soon become apparent,
02:01episodes 1 and 3 of this series aren't being filmed until March 2023,
02:06and episode 2 will turn over in April.
02:10But here and now, in December 2022, we're filming episode 4.
02:15Are you with me? It is Doctor Who.
02:17We're constantly travelling through time and space.
02:20So, yes, genuinely, this is my first day on set for the new series.
02:24So, lots of the crew you can see milling around behind me
02:27might have featured on some of the earlier episodes of Unleashed,
02:30but at this moment in time, I've not met any of them,
02:33I've not spoken to them, and I've certainly not filmed with any of them.
02:37And the first person I need to meet is the star of 73 Yards.
02:42No, not the Doctor, let's be honest.
02:44He's hardly in this episode.
02:45It's the companion Ruby Sunday,
02:47played by 18-year-old Millie Gibson,
02:50who's also enjoying the first day on set.
02:53Hello, has anybody seen Millie anywhere?
02:55Has anybody...
02:55Oh, you're there!
02:56I'm sorry, I didn't see you behind the court.
03:00He's only...
03:01I'm not having me eat, I'm in a wig.
03:03I'm sorry.
03:04I thought you were going to be...
03:06I don't know, I knew you were doing a photo shoot.
03:07A big transformation.
03:08I thought it was going to be big,
03:08you were going to be on, like, a big plinth or something.
03:10I was more shocked than you.
03:11No one knew you were a cunt.
03:14Hello, nice to meet you.
03:15I'm looking to meet you.
03:16That's not a great first impression to give, is it?
03:18I'm outside, this is my good thing.
03:19Oh, yeah, of course, I've got a bad set this day.
03:21Oh, well, you know.
03:22I'll put up it just for you.
03:23Bex camp cheese.
03:24Oh, well, this is mad, isn't it?
03:25I know, it's bloody crazy, yeah.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Are you finding it so far?
03:29Yeah, it's been...
03:30It's been the most incredible start to the journey.
03:34I mean, I wouldn't think I was going to be in this get-all
03:36for my first scene, as you can see.
03:37Is that a wig?
03:38That is a wig.
03:39It's really a good wig, isn't it?
03:40It's a good wig, sir.
03:41Just trying to see where the wig starts in your...
03:43Well, you know, that secret can't be revealed.
03:46Yeah, it can't be revealed.
03:47You look a bit older than normal here, aren't you?
03:50Yes, this is Ruby when she's 25.
03:5325?
03:53Yeah, so, yeah, we've just put the wig on
03:56and a bit of dull make-up because she's not the best in this thing.
03:59No, she's struggling, isn't she?
04:00She's a bit depressed.
04:01Yeah, she is a bit depressed.
04:03Well, it's going to be easy for you to go and, you know,
04:05be depressed now in the next scene
04:06because you've just had to spend five minutes in my company.
04:08Oh, my gosh.
04:09Well, it's been lovely to meet you.
04:10Oh, so lovely to meet you.
04:11And good luck with all the make-up and stuff.
04:13Oh, yeah?
04:13And next time I see you on set,
04:14I'll just be sure that I, you know,
04:15I don't...
04:17Where's Millie?
04:17I don't realise, I don't realise you're there.
04:19I don't see Millie.
04:20Yeah, just the star of the TV show
04:22that I didn't recognise in the flesh.
04:25That's great.
04:25But that's great.
04:27Should we scrap this?
04:28This works.
04:28Should we do it again?
04:29Yeah, yeah, should we just start again, please?
04:30You go back there.
04:31I'll come over here and we'll do it all again.
04:33Right, see you in five.
04:34Nah, there's no time for that.
04:36We've got too much to get in to go back.
04:38So we've established that Millie is flying solo
04:41on her first gig as Ruby.
04:43No doctor in sight to support her,
04:46just straight in at the deep end.
04:48We also know that this series is being filmed out of sequence,
04:51so why is that?
04:53What exactly was Russell T Davies thinking?
04:55The whole set-up of this is partly because
04:57Shruti is busy filming sex education,
05:00we had to start filming,
05:02so we kind of happily embraced that opportunity to say,
05:04let's focus on Millie as Ruby.
05:07And that gives you a chance to explore her character,
05:10gives us a chance to explore her as an actor.
05:12And it's really rewarding.
05:13It's really paying back.
05:14She's doing the most brilliant job.
05:15Okay.
05:17Very clever.
05:20Very clever.
05:21What is a joy watching this
05:24is seeing that Millie was part of a huge cast
05:27of Coronation Street,
05:28hugely famous because of that,
05:30but the culture shock, I think, for her,
05:32of, like, coming on to Doctor Who,
05:33which is a huge, big, important show,
05:36and being not just the lead actor,
05:38but the lead of the whole set,
05:39is a huge thing to put on someone's shoulders
05:43when they're that young,
05:44and she's just been absolutely magnificent.
05:46I've never done anything like that before.
05:48I mean, I sort of went from doing, like,
05:51a bit of a cough and a spit of the cobbles
05:52and then sort of coming on to this,
05:53and it's like, right,
05:54so we're starting with your own episode,
05:56and I'm like, what?
05:58Millie is amazing.
05:59She's our youngest cast member.
06:01She is brand new to this series and this world,
06:04but yet she always gives these amazing performances,
06:07these amazing, really heartfelt performances.
06:10I've cried so many times watching episode four.
06:12It's incredible.
06:14I just hope it's turned out well,
06:15but, yeah, I just, I'm excited to see it.
06:19I think it's going to be funny seeing myself at 40.
06:22There's no other opportunity
06:24in which we'll ever see Ruby's life pass
06:27without the Doctor
06:28and her strength and her dedication
06:30and the fact she never gives up.
06:33And it shows that when the world's in danger,
06:35actually, some people in this Doctor Who world,
06:37these people who are companions,
06:39step forward and are strong enough
06:42to become the people who save the world.
06:44This episode had some complex set-ups.
06:50Clifftops, city centre sieges,
06:53a spooky storm-wracked pub.
06:56For the Who crew, though,
06:57the most challenging scene was one of the shortest.
07:01Ruby's train journey to London
07:02takes up just 20 seconds of the episode,
07:05but it required teamwork, military precision
07:08and a race against the clock to pull it off.
07:10Ready? Let's go.
07:15So today we are going to be filming on a train
07:18that has originated at London Paddington
07:21and it's going to go through to Swansea.
07:23We are here now at Newport train station
07:25with the camera and the grips team.
07:27We'll be getting on here,
07:29getting the kit on
07:30and then meeting everyone else at Cardiff
07:32to then get the rest of the departments on
07:34and start filming on the train.
07:36It's 90 seconds to get on the train.
07:38So that's a minute and a half.
07:40So hopefully, fingers crossed,
07:42everything goes well.
07:43It's going to be stressful,
07:44but I think we can do it.
07:46Yeah, I think it's going to be
07:47a little bit stressful,
07:49but yeah, we'll get it done.
07:50I think if we miss it, we miss it.
07:52So yeah, see how it goes.
07:53Should be all right.
07:54So I've got camera grips here.
07:56We're going to get on
07:57and then we'll come to you guys
07:58approximately for about 11.40.
08:00So about 10, 11 minutes.
08:01Yeah, wicked.
08:03All right, nice to have a chance.
08:04Thank you very much.
08:05Thanks.
08:05Bye.
08:06That's the Cardiff lot.
08:06So they're just asking about
08:07what time the train's estimated to get there,
08:10if we're still on schedule,
08:12but we are.
08:12So that's okay.
08:13Yeah.
08:13Yeah, I reckon.
08:14I reckon we'll be 30 seconds.
08:1530 seconds.
08:16Okay.
08:17Well, I'll do it.
08:17As soon as it stops.
08:20Oh!
08:24Let's go.
08:26We've got 58 seconds to go.
08:29Come on, guys.
08:30Let's go.
08:31Let's get in.
08:31Let's get in.
08:32Now, don't chuck it on.
08:33That's blocked out.
08:34My back's not going to hunt.
08:35We all good?
08:36We all good?
08:36All good?
08:37Let's go.
08:38Look at that, John.
08:3930 seconds.
08:4047 seconds.
08:41You were 30.
08:4130.
08:4230.
08:42We love it.
08:43We love it.
08:44We love it.
08:45We've got 21 seconds to go.
08:46If you let me know, let me hear the studio.
08:48We've got 21 seconds before the train's got to go.
08:49Yeah.
08:51Next stop, Cardiff.
08:53So I got on at Cardiff with the extras and with Millie.
08:57We'd hired out two carriages.
08:59So one carriage was full of the crew and the second carriage was obviously where we were
09:02filming.
09:04Nice and quiet.
09:04Nice and still everywhere then, please, for rehearsal.
09:08I don't think we have that long to do with the scene.
09:10So it's a good job.
09:10I don't have any line to mess up on, but it's been really fun.
09:15And action.
09:17We had about half an hour to get these two or three shots.
09:20As soon as the train pulled out of Cardiff Station, we were kind of rolling the camera
09:24and going for takes.
09:25The first shot of the scene is actually this kind of push-in shot down the corridor of the
09:31train, which then peels off and finds Millie sat by the window.
09:34And to execute that, we use a Ronin, which is kind of a gimbal device, a bit like a steady
09:38cam, but smaller, which allowed us to get this kind of smooth shot.
09:42But it was really tricky for the brilliant camera operator, James, because he had to
09:46literally battle against the kind of natural rocking motion of a train and still keep himself
09:51steady and try and get a really smooth push-in shot on Millie, which he absolutely executed.
09:56Right there.
09:57That's pretty good.
09:58And board, and board.
09:58And board.
09:59Well done, Mill.
10:01So the current stakes is we have not just one department.
10:04We have two separate departments that get off this train in 90 seconds.
10:08Can it be done?
10:10Who knows?
10:11We'll find out.
10:12Are you done?
10:13All right, guys, 90 seconds.
10:15Oh, yeah.
10:17We're moving out.
10:19We just arrived at Cardiff Central Station.
10:22This has been a successful day on the train.
10:26We've just come back and respond to Millie's here.
10:28And we've alighted the Cardiff Central.
10:31We're going to go into the BBC now and spend the rest of the day in there.
10:35So, yeah, we're good.
10:38Still to come on Doctor Who Unleashed.
10:43It is just bonkers.
10:44We meet a family daft enough to let Doctor Who film in their home.
10:47Total chaos.
10:49It is chaos.
10:51I come face to face with a 73 yards woman.
10:54Bless you.
10:56Thank you so much.
10:57Thank you so much.
10:57For the Shrug.
10:58And spoiler alert, we've got a world-exclusive peak at the next episode of Doctor Who.
11:04But first, for Millie, there's only one thing more scary than being the star of the show.
11:12The woman who stands 73 yards away throughout the episode.
11:17What unnerves you most about the woman that is 73 yards away is that you can never see her face.
11:25Even when Ruby takes a picture of her and tries to zoom in and looks at her and it's all blurry and distorted, you're like, what, why?
11:31And it is really creepy.
11:34Like, imagine that following you around all the time.
11:36I always try to wrap my head around that.
11:38It's horrible.
11:39The concept of 73 yards is a really interesting one.
11:43So, obviously, in this episode, Millie's character, Ruby, discovers this old woman 73 yards away from her who she can never get any closer to.
11:51So, no matter how quickly she walks towards her, the woman always maintains a 73-yard distance.
11:57It's 73 yards simply because when I was writing this, I had no idea what my distance.
12:02So, to get the distance, I went out to Swansea Pier.
12:05And on Swansea Pier, the railings are three and a half feet long, so I could measure.
12:09So, I literally stood on Swansea Pier until I could stare just at people passing by.
12:13So, a woman eventually was about 73 yards away.
12:17And I thought, that's the right distance.
12:18She's a blur, but she's not a blur.
12:20I can just about see her.
12:21And I handed the script in saying, that's not exactly a very scientific method.
12:24I think that's right.
12:25It might be 90.
12:27It might be 60.
12:28Turns out I was right.
12:29My scientific methods using railings on Swansea Pier were exactly right.
12:33And we've stuck the 73 yards.
12:36For the crew, that didn't just mean plonking the woman 73 yards from the camera and shooting.
12:42They also required some science.
12:44We did loads of tests.
12:46Sam, our DP, and Dylan, our director, they went out and they measured what 73 yards was.
12:52And then we messed around with lenses to see whether we could trick ourselves into thinking it was closer or further away.
12:58We had to stand at 73 yards away to make sure, A, we could see the woman, and she was mysterious enough.
13:05So, we had to make sure that even if we put a particular lens on it, we still couldn't see who she was.
13:11Even on the shoot, they were still calculating to do.
13:15And action!
13:17So, I've been watching, and obviously, it's a logistical challenge, isn't it?
13:19Yeah.
13:20And a maths one.
13:21Yeah.
13:21To make sure that she's the same distance away all the time.
13:23Yeah, totally.
13:24So, every time we see the old woman, we only see her from this very particular perspective, which makes you kind of squint, and you never are able to really see her face in any great detail.
13:32And that was really Russell's idea that it was, I think, pretty much written into the script.
13:36And when I first saw it, I sort of thought, that's not going to work.
13:39And I said to Russell, Russell, that we've got to get closer, we've got to get some close shots.
13:42And he was like, no, no, no, trust me, it will work.
13:43I was like, okay.
13:44And we tested it, and it worked really well, I think.
13:46And what it means is you never really get in there, and you're always squinting, and there's something kind of scary about that, really.
13:52Cut the reset, please. Cut the reset.
13:54Every time we do a shot like that, we have to pull up our kind of favourite original take that we first did,
13:59and match every other shot so that the woman is exactly the same size in the shot.
14:03So, yes, it is a bit of a logistical challenge and a headache, yeah, definitely.
14:07So that's how the 73-yard woman was filmed.
14:10Though, of course, what the whole world actually wants to know is what on earth she says.
14:17Russell?
14:18You will never know. I'm never going to tell you what she says.
14:21It's kind of up to you to sit there and think, well, what could someone say that would make a mother run away from her daughter forever?
14:26If you could look at yourself and think, what would make me do that?
14:28And once you started to do that, you went to the real horror story, the dreadful things are being said there, terrible things.
14:35We're filming the scene where Ruby's mum runs away after speaking to the woman at the end of the street.
14:40What do you think she says to her?
14:42I think she asks her why she's stalking her daughter, and nobody knows.
14:46Does the woman speak, even?
14:48Yeah.
14:48Does she hear, or is she just... Who is she?
14:50Who is she?
14:51Is she a manifestation of our subconscious? We don't know.
14:55In this show, anything could happen.
14:58You're the director. What do you think she's saying to people to make them peg it?
15:03That's a tough question. I don't know. I seriously don't know. I thought long and hard. I can't come up with a good answer.
15:08Yeah.
15:09It's whatever the worst thing is in the world that that person could possibly hear. That's all I tell the actors.
15:13Yeah.
15:14Maybe I do know, and I just don't want to tell you.
15:15Yeah, maybe. That's probably what it is.
15:17What do you think the woman says?
15:18I'm sorry.
15:21Oh, that's quite deep.
15:23Maybe she's saying that she's her from the future. Who knows? I don't know.
15:28It's a time-traveling show.
15:29Exactly. So, anything's possible. She could be like, I'm from the future, and I'm your daughter.
15:35Some people have just gone with, she's offered them laws of cash.
15:38Cash? She wouldn't run away without a cash. Would you? I mean, me?
15:42Run to it.
15:43Run to the cash. She's done to run to the cash.
15:46I think she's talking about how much she loves pineapple on pizza, and I think that's really scaring people off.
15:51You know what? I'm not going to lie to you, Devontae. I was not expecting that.
15:54To be fair, if someone said that to me, I'd run away as well.
15:56Yeah, yeah.
15:57There's got no place on a pizza.
15:58No, no, unfortunately not. I can't agree with it.
16:00Yeah.
16:00I can't agree with it.
16:00At one point, I thought she was saying, don't listen to this girl. Don't talk to her. Everything will change. Your life will change in the future.
16:09Yeah.
16:10And that's what made them run away.
16:11Right.
16:12So, that's what I think she's saying.
16:13Yeah.
16:14Where are you going to go?
16:15Well, we'll never find out.
16:16But we'll never find out.
16:16Or will we?
16:17We're never going to know.
16:20So, the mystery remains unsolved. But never fear, I have one more trick up my sleeve before the end of this episode.
16:32From Cardiff to Bristol to the West Wales coast, 12 different locations have been used in the making of this episode.
16:39That's lots of councils, landowners and homeowners who've allowed the team onto their properties.
16:45And if you've ever wondered what it's like to have the Doctor Who crew descend on you, here's a bit of an insight.
16:52This is the White Cross Inn, set in the hills above Cofili in the rural village of Groiswen.
17:03The 18th century pub is doubling as a Pren Maru, the Dead Wood, the spooky hostelry with the strange locals that Ruby Sunday stumbles into.
17:12But in real life, it's the business and home of landlady Mayr.
17:18So, Maia, how did this happen then?
17:21How are we outside your pub and there's all this camera crew and all these actors here and all this fuss?
17:28Total chaos. It is chaos.
17:30Alex rung me one day and said, please could you come and have a look at the pub?
17:34He needed a pub close to Cardiff that had stones and beams.
17:38And he came up and he'd seen it and in a couple of days he said, yeah, we'll go with it.
17:42So, have you had to close down for four days then?
17:45Yeah, we shut from Monday till Friday afternoon.
17:48That's a big thing to do, isn't it? To close down your business for that one of the time?
17:51It is, but it is also really exciting to have this happening.
17:55The village is good for the village.
17:57I'm sure eventually there'll be people looking out, where was that place that they filmed at?
18:02Let's go and have a look.
18:03So, it'll be good for the village as well as for the pub in the future.
18:06And Rich, as well as working in the pub, you're a bit of a boob, you're in.
18:10Yeah, I like Doctor Who, yeah. I love a bit of Doctor Who.
18:12So, it's really exciting for me to, you know, have a childhood dream come true and see how it all works.
18:19It's a new era as well, you know.
18:20This is being filmed now in 2022, but it won't be aired until 2024, so I'll have to keep strumming for quite a while.
18:28Yeah, you'll have to keep a secret for ages.
18:29Yeah.
18:30So, what practically, what does it mean then for you, Mad?
18:33So, obviously, you've had to tell the locals, listen, sorry team, see you in a week.
18:38See you in a week.
18:39Sorry boys, we are shutting, you know, through the week.
18:41There are things.
18:42We have a quiz on a Tuesday.
18:43This Wednesday would have been nitter-natter, where the girls come and have a chat and that.
18:47Yeah.
18:47Monday would have been dart.
18:49So, while there is movement every night in the pub, something's going on, they all understood, you know, it was something we couldn't really turn down.
18:59Yeah.
18:59But never in a million years did I realise that it was going to be, not so much disruptive, because you've given the pub over to them, but there's so much going on.
19:08It is just bonkers how many people are here.
19:11So, are you trying to avoid spoilers, so you get to watch it for real when it goes out on the show?
19:16I mean, I have been having a sneaky look on the monitors, but you can't hear what they're saying on the monitors.
19:20Yeah.
19:20So, it's, and I can't lipread very well either, so, you know, it's just, it's just nice to sort of, you know, know that at some point in 2024, I'll see, you know, the White Cross pretending to be, whichever pub it is trying to...
19:35Yeah, Pren Maru, Deadwood.
19:37Pren Maru, I said, you need to keep the sign up, there's plenty of Deadwood up here.
19:41We should just keep that.
19:43And on that note, thank you very much for chatting to us.
19:47The villagers are going to see that now, they're not going to be happy with you, are they?
19:50Exterminate!
19:57Traditionally, Doctor Who 4s tend to be otherworldly, but in this episode, the monster is 100% human.
20:06Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger! Roger!
20:10Roger!
20:10Roger Apgwilliam, a nuke-loving, fictional future Prime Minister, is brought to life with sinister relish by Ynairyn Barnard.
20:19But how hard is it to play the bad man?
20:21It's always more fun to play a villain. Romeo's boring, you know, like, it's so wet.
20:27Do you know what I mean? It's not really that attractive.
20:29I mean, most people are attractive to the bad guy anyway, or the bad girl, you know, it's what we love.
20:34I will go to his majesty and prepare for government.
20:39And Ynair Barnard is prime casting for Roger, because I wanted someone young, and it'd be very easy to cast a man in their 50s and 60s as a prime minister figure.
20:48But actually, we're in the future, you kind of look at the way things are going, you look at the power of young men online, terrible young men online, I'm not even going to name, who gather worship around them.
20:59Not that Roger's that exactly, he is a politician, but he's social media savvy.
21:04He's the future of politics, I think.
21:06He's a grafter, he's clever, but he's a user as well.
21:09He's using all this stuff for his own aims and is secretly quite insane.
21:13Roger's a bit of a complicated one, really.
21:17You know, he's gunning for extreme power on the world stage.
21:22He wants to be the center of attention.
21:24One thing with Roger is there is no empathy whatsoever.
21:27There's a huge charisma, there's a huge charm, but it's just a tool.
21:31It's just there to manipulate others so he can get what he wants.
21:33Even though he says what he's trying to do is unite the United Kingdom to be the greatest nation in the world, he doesn't really care about that.
21:42He cares about how powerful he is.
21:43Excuse me, I'm sorry.
21:45Are you saying that you actually want to fire a nuclear missile?
21:52Well, cut that bit out, right?
21:54I'm quite fascinated with people who are quite powerful and dangerous and, you know, have really lost their way.
22:00For me, selfishly, as an actor, they're way more engaging.
22:03You know, coming and play someone who doesn't care about anyone else but themselves is quite a lot of fun, really.
22:1273 Yards sees the return of the Unified Intelligence Task Force, a.k.a. UNIT.
22:20Created in the Hooniverse by the United Nations, UNIT is a military organization where the Doctor helps defend Earth from extraterrestrial and paranormal threats.
22:29Since the 60th anniversary specials, UNIT has been housed in a swanky new tower block in central London.
22:37A major step up from its first appearance way back in 1968, when the web of fear saw the newly formed elite band being pursued through disused tube tunnels by killer yetis.
22:48Get back!
22:51Into the 1970s, UNIT was led by Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, who helped the Doctor overcome everything from Daleks in Day of the Daleks to murderous maggots in the Green Death.
23:04Jumping forward to 2012, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, daughter of Brigadier General Sir Alistair, played by Gemma Redgrave, was appointed UNIT's Chief Scientific Officer, a role she holds to this day.
23:18In Newport City Centre, the Doctor Who crew gather to shoot a mini-action sequence, where Kate and UNIT attempt to come to the rescue of Ruby Sunday.
23:32I'm Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and I think I can help.
23:36Any time we shoot on a high street, it's quite a big deal for us.
23:41We have a lot of fans show up, which is really lovely, but at the same time, we become responsible for their safety as well.
23:47Road closures, most fun in the location department's life.
23:52And then when you add stunts, when you add people with guns, and you add fast-moving cars, that, again, ensuring everyone's safety, making sure everyone is happy, everyone knows what they're doing.
24:02And it was raining, which was really fun.
24:06Rain? Rainy stunts? Even more rain? Water off a duck's back.
24:12So what was the one thing that threatened to sink the whole sequence?
24:17Two fellas in a shop window.
24:21We were filming the final shot of the day. We were losing light. We had no time. It was incredibly stressful.
24:27We had to get this wide shot of the cafe where they were seated.
24:31And suddenly I look up and I see these, like, two guys standing in the shop across the road.
24:36And I think, that's really bizarre. Like, they're so massively in the shop.
24:41So, kind of naively, I just headed over there to talk to these two men.
24:45I didn't know who they were. And I just said, you know, guys, like, you're right in the back of our shop.
24:49Would you mind please moving?
24:50And they were like, no. And I was like, okay, cool. Thanks.
24:54Turns out they were press photographers hoping to get some shots of Millie and Gemma.
24:59Bit of a standoff ensued.
25:01But who would snap first? The snappers or the crew?
25:04I thought, you know what, I might as well try one more time.
25:07I made about five minutes left at this point.
25:09And they were literally ruining the kind of very important shot.
25:11So, I was like, okay, I'm going to try again. And I went back.
25:13And this time, I can't even remember what I said.
25:15But I was, you know, in that state which directors are often in, of just being so intensely stressed.
25:21I think I just sort of begged and almost got down on my knees and said, please.
25:25I kind of, you know, humiliated myself.
25:27But said, you know, we're really at our wit's end here.
25:29We've got one more shot to get.
25:30We've got five minutes of light. Would you please, please, please mind moving out of the shot?
25:35Which, for some reason, they did.
25:37So, it was great. I kind of couldn't believe it.
25:38But they eventually agreed to move.
25:41In the end, we did manage to just about get the shot.
25:44So, that was a happy ending.
25:55One of the fantastic things about Doctor Who Unleashed
25:57is the fact that we get to places that other shows could only dream of.
26:02So, right now, we've got an exclusive that even the main show couldn't get their hands on.
26:07Take that, Russell.
26:07Here's our interview with the 73 Yards Woman.
26:11I suppose the first thing is to say is,
26:13what was it like when you found out that you were going to be playing this character
26:16and you started finding out more about her?
26:19What was that like?
26:19I don't know anything about her.
26:21They haven't told me anything.
26:22I don't know who she is.
26:24I don't know what she's there for.
26:26And I don't really know what she's saying.
26:28I have a little script, sort of, to follow.
26:31But the words I'm saying are pretty meaningless, really.
26:34But Paul, the movement coach, gave me a little sort of scenario and script.
26:39And so, I've stuck to that.
26:40And it seems to be working fine.
26:42I've been watching you for a while now, doing the scene.
26:45Right.
26:45You've got a very specific set of movements, haven't you?
26:47Right.
26:47What are you up to?
26:49Hold my hot water bottle.
26:50This wasn't an excuse just so I could hold your hot water bottle, Hilary.
26:53I promise.
26:54What I'm doing is I'm saying, bless you.
26:56Thank you so much.
26:58That's so kind of you.
26:59When you gave me that little thing, it was just so precious.
27:03How am I ever going to repay you?
27:05But you'll think of something.
27:07And back to the beginning.
27:08Bless you.
27:09That's it.
27:10Wow.
27:10Because here, without you even to hear it, it looks really sinister.
27:12But when you say those nice words...
27:14There's nothing scary about what I'm actually...
27:17And I'm just sort of mouthing the words anyway.
27:19I'm not actually saying them.
27:20Do you mind trying to teach me?
27:22Bless you.
27:23Yeah, bless you.
27:23Thank you so much.
27:25And then you shrug your shoulders.
27:26Shrug, okay.
27:27And then you say, when you gave me that little thing...
27:31Yeah.
27:31It was so precious.
27:33But how am I ever going to thank you?
27:35Big shrug.
27:36Yeah.
27:37And...
27:37But we'll think of something.
27:39And you're nodding, you're sort of bobbing your head.
27:40And then you start at the beginning again.
27:41So it's...
27:42Bless you.
27:43Bless you.
27:43Thank you so much for the shrug.
27:45Thank you so much for the shrug.
27:46When you gave me that little thing is...
27:48A little spinny thing with the hands.
27:49In we come.
27:50It's so kind of you.
27:52But how am I ever going to thank you?
27:55We'll think of something.
27:56Think of something, yeah.
27:57I don't know as well as you, but that's very good.
27:59I've done it hundreds of times now.
28:01Are you doing it in your sleep now, Hilary, as well?
28:03Yeah.
28:05With Hilary right in front of me, it's time to play my trump card.
28:09Surely, if anyone knows what the 73-yard woman says, it'll be her.
28:16In the next episode of Doctor Who, and the weather report says it's another glorious day in fine time.
28:30In theory.
28:32Not gonna lie, we've got a little bit of trouble with the weather satellites.
28:37But we'll get that fixed as soon as we can.
28:40We'll get that fixed as soon as we can.
