00:00It appears that the United States may have found a figure who could serve as an indirect link
00:06to Russian President Vladimir Putin, someone Washington believes holds a key asset,
00:11Putin's personal trust. The figure in question is Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko,
00:19Moscow's closest ally for decades. According to the Wall Street Journal, Lukashenko has
00:25reemerged through an undisclosed back channel, with negotiations conducted away from the public eye,
00:31resulting in a quid pro quo between Minsk and Washington. As part of this arrangement,
00:37Belarus released more than 250 detainees in exchange for the United States easing sanctions
00:42on key sectors. The report also said that the Trump administration views Lukashenko as a potential
00:49intermediary who could later be used to entice Moscow out of its isolation should a settlement
00:54to the war in Ukraine be reached.
