00:00:00Backfield is empty as they motion him out right.
00:00:06Able to get it to Moreau.
00:00:08And he works this to the 15 before they make the stop.
00:00:12We have a timeout here, second one taken by New Orleans.
00:00:16And they still have one in their pocket for what's left of this half.
00:00:27Halfway to the marker, it's second and five.
00:00:30Halfway to the marker, it's second and five.
00:00:36Working out of the gun, it's caught.
00:00:38This one's caught.
00:00:40And he'll get this inside the 10 to the 9.
00:00:44It's a six-yard gain, that sets up first and goal.
00:00:48Now just before the break, a timeout taken by the offense.
00:00:51And they can try for some points going into the break.
00:00:53What's up?
00:00:54Only time left for one more snap rock, so they're going to run out their field goal unit.
00:01:16High percentage look for him here from the left half.
00:01:19Mikatami's kick is good.
00:01:21And that will push it to double digits in a two-possession game.
00:01:24In that close, kicks have to be automatic.
00:01:28That won't stop the head coach, though, from holding his breath for a couple seconds
00:01:32until he sees it's up and good.
00:01:34Well, Brock Byrne, the touchback.
00:01:55This kickoff should run out the half, so better make that return good as it's away.
00:02:00Gibson now to return.
00:02:04He's hauled down on what is the final play of our first half.
00:02:08So at halftime, the Saints fighting to an advantage on the road.
00:02:12Now down the coast we go to Orlando, Florida in our studio there.
00:02:16Jonathan Coachman waiting by with the EA Sports Halftime Report.
00:02:21All right, Kate, thanks very much.
00:02:22Back to you and Brock in a bit.
00:02:24But first, time for our EA Sports Halftime Report.
00:02:27Both of these offenses had their share of high points in that first half.
00:02:32Each team had some big moments, and it would seem this could turn out to be a game
00:02:36where the last score wins.
00:02:44All right, thank you, Coach.
00:02:46And we are back and about set to begin the second half.
00:02:49Well, if you love high-scoring games, no doubt you have been glued to your television so far.
00:03:16And no signs of slowing down as we begin our second half.
00:03:21And pretty solid field position starting out here, Brock.
00:03:24He's tackled at the 29.
00:03:26The Visitors headed back out on offense.
00:03:28Their quarterback returning to the field now.
00:03:31And the type of game that he has been putting together.
00:03:33Wow, we're going to see some of these highlights now, Brock.
00:03:36And I expect a lot of times over the next week, too.
00:03:39He has thrown this offense to the end zone time and again.
00:03:42What a showing.
00:03:43This is one of the elite games that we have seen from him.
00:04:00And the drivels start out with a first and ten.
00:04:09Pistol snap to car.
00:04:10There's the importance of staying in phase as a defender.
00:04:25He was all over him in coverage.
00:04:28And that really did help force the incompletion.
00:04:30No dice on that prior pass.
00:04:32Here's second down.
00:04:36Back to the air.
00:04:37Kahn.
00:04:39Has him on the quick hitter.
00:04:41And now bottle this up after a four-yard gain.
00:04:44Now a softs Gardner dropping him there.
00:04:46Textbook hits route.
00:04:49He's hit him in the short field.
00:04:51It's deliberate.
00:04:51Once that defense turns their attention elsewhere.
00:04:54Okay, this is a low-ceiling play.
00:04:56But a reliable source of yardage.
00:04:58They come to the line here.
00:04:59And this is third and six.
00:05:02Kahn.
00:05:03He fires one deep down the middle.
00:05:07Brought in inside the 20.
00:05:10There it is.
00:05:11Touchdown, New Orleans.
00:05:14The Saints grow the lead coming out of halftime.
00:05:18That is his sixth passing score of the game.
00:05:21A lot of quarterbacks could go several weeks without throwing that many touchdowns.
00:05:24And now, keep in mind, he's only one off the NFL record of seven in a single game.
00:05:36Groupie to try the point after.
00:05:44Extra points sent in through the rain.
00:05:47And the Saints take a three-possession lead.
00:05:54Here's Groupie on now to handle the kickoff.
00:06:24Here's Abani Konda on the return.
00:06:31Tackle made as the return gets it out to the 32.
00:06:35The Jets back out on offense.
00:06:37They're running back, headed out once again.
00:06:40And those legs must be tired.
00:06:42But he ain't shopping, Brock.
00:06:43Not with the type of game that he's been having for himself on the ground.
00:06:46Oh, no.
00:06:50There's a whole lot of time.
00:06:52Man, look what you're talking about.
00:06:53It's a new set of downs for him at the 32.
00:07:04They start the half with a give to Hall.
00:07:07And he found some running room for a nice game.
00:07:11It's an eight-yard pickup.
00:07:12And they're going to have second and two next.
00:07:13So much to like about that run, Kate.
00:07:17Particularly what he was able to get out of it.
00:07:18The defense, I think, feels a little fortunate they were able to track him down before an even bigger run and crossing that first down marker.
00:07:25They give on second to Hall.
00:07:32And he's tackled with a first down yardage.
00:07:36I don't know about you, Kate, but he sure made getting that first down look really easy.
00:07:40A lot easier than it's supposed to be for that defense.
00:07:43And I think they'll hear about it when they get to the sidelines.
00:07:45From the 44-yard line now, first and ten.
00:07:53From the shotgun, Rogers.
00:07:59And he just hooks this one away.
00:08:01Wasn't going to risk a thrower for something.
00:08:03It brings up second down.
00:08:04Shotgun snap.
00:08:24A gift to Hall.
00:08:25And it's a nice game, but they needed just one more yard to move the chains.
00:08:30They get about four there.
00:08:31Need a little more than that now on third and six.
00:08:35When you don't have great success on first down, Kate, it's a little bit like a hitter in baseball falling behind in the count.
00:08:41And all you want to do as a hitter is get back to a fighting chance.
00:08:44Give yourself a better count.
00:08:46That play, well, it does the same here.
00:08:47Now a much more manageable and opportune third down situation.
00:08:52He's got it to him yet again.
00:08:54That is cut.
00:08:56It's a gain of 12 there.
00:08:58And it'll give the Jets a first down.
00:09:00I'm not sure how this defense let that guy slip through him like that.
00:09:04On third down, nonetheless, he took that snap as an opportunity.
00:09:08Man, did he make an impact play.
00:09:10On first down, here comes Hall.
00:09:15And he's stopped at the 31-yard line.
00:09:19They come through with a nice gain of 10 and a first down.
00:09:22If you call that first down running play, you don't always expect to get those kind of yards.
00:09:28They'll take that every single time.
00:09:30They've got first down from the 31.
00:09:40Here's Hall, once more.
00:09:42Jukes at a one stop.
00:09:44And he has it down officially to the red zone at the 20.
00:09:48That's an 11-yard pickup, and it gives them the first down.
00:09:52Yeah, you want to get above five yards to carry?
00:09:55I'll put together runs like that.
00:09:56And I'll tell you what else a run like that does, Kate.
00:09:58That sets up the play action.
00:10:00When you really just gouge and gash a defense like that,
00:10:05the next time you run that action,
00:10:06they're going to be thinking running the ball.
00:10:08It'll go right over their head.
00:10:10And they sent it straight ahead, but the front stops him after a gain of three.
00:10:13Second down now, seven to go.
00:10:33Rodgers here off the play action.
00:10:37Finds his fullback.
00:10:39And he'll pick up enough to move the chains.
00:10:43They like to say it's about the Jimmys and the Joes.
00:10:45I think that's about the X's and the O's.
00:10:47That's a well-drawn-up completion that nets them a first down.
00:10:54This offense in position now.
00:10:56It's first and goal.
00:11:01Rodgers here from the gun.
00:11:04Into the end zone, but someone's able to knock it away.
00:11:07That's incomplete.
00:11:09That's just simply great positioning to swap the ball away.
00:11:12He stayed in a spot where he could disrupt the throw before the target
00:11:16and make a play on it.
00:11:20So the incompletion on first.
00:11:22Here's second and goal.
00:11:23From the gun, it's Hall.
00:11:30And he will take it in.
00:11:33Touchdown, New York.
00:11:35The Jets struck the second half with some needed points.
00:11:39Reese Hall with the touchdown.
00:11:42It's what every player who scores a touchdown wants to do, Brock.
00:11:46He wants to get right back there and put another six on the board.
00:11:49I've never met an NFL player content with one end zone trip in a game.
00:11:53Nope.
00:11:54Yeah, if you're content, you're not making it to this league.
00:11:56You get one, you're instantly thinking of another.
00:11:58And the fortunate few are able to actually deliver on it.
00:12:02Zerline on now for the extra point.
00:12:09Got a good play in the rain there.
00:12:11The extra point flies through.
00:12:12And the Jets cut the lead down to 10.
00:12:15That lead trimmed just a bit down to 10 points now
00:12:44as the kick is up and away.
00:12:47Shahid now to return.
00:12:51And he manages the 35 before they can stop him.
00:12:56The offense being led back out by its quarterback
00:12:58as they get geared up for their next possession.
00:13:01And he'll be happy to keep letting it fly as much as he has all game.
00:13:04Look at these numbers.
00:13:05They show just how effective he's been in captaining this offense.
00:13:09The Saints enjoy some good field position to start this drive off.
00:13:22First and 10 coming up.
00:13:26Here's Karn.
00:13:30Fits it through the middle.
00:13:31And he takes it just inside the 40, down to the 39.
00:13:36That's going to pick up the first down after a gain of 26.
00:13:40And someone has officially flown higher than the Dutchman, Brock.
00:13:44That completion pushes him past Norm Van Brockman
00:13:47for the most passing yards in a game in NFL history.
00:13:52The mark of 554 yards has stood resolute since back in 1951.
00:13:57And then seven decades later, someone has finally topped it.
00:14:09Karn with it on first.
00:14:12He had it for a moment, but a great defensive play to jar it loose.
00:14:16Incomplete.
00:14:18Tough one to retain through that hit.
00:14:20So second down coming up.
00:14:23Stanley keeping him involved in their passing game, Brock.
00:14:25But that throw now didn't work out the way his earlier targets had.
00:14:29It kind of felt like you could see that from the booth.
00:14:31This defense was sick and tired of this running back catching the ball.
00:14:34A whole lot more active in their coverage.
00:14:37And somebody was ready to...
00:14:38And he brings it in, but got too close to the sideline there.
00:14:41They're rolling him out of bounds.
00:14:42We've got third down.
00:14:44The kick cover is much better than that really well-covered team on that play.
00:14:48There just simply was not a window for him to sneak that throw in.
00:14:51Last pass unsuccessful, and they have third down here.
00:15:04Throwing again.
00:15:05It's Karn.
00:15:06Put some heat on this.
00:15:08He's got it deep down field.
00:15:10It's a New Orleans touchdown.
00:15:11From Sid Luckman in 1943 to Drew Brees in 2015.
00:15:19We've had eight quarterbacks throw seven touchdowns in one game.
00:15:22And now we have a ninth who's accomplished that feat as his dominance over this defense continues.
00:15:27Group B to trot that point after.
00:15:51Bad weather doesn't affect that extra point.
00:15:54It's good.
00:15:55And the Saints take a three-possession lead.
00:16:20Here's Groupion now to handle the kickoff.
00:16:24Here's Abani Kanda on the return.
00:16:30And a decent return ends as they bring him down inside the 30.
00:16:35The Jets returning their offense and this running back to the field.
00:16:40And he finds himself across an important benchmark for yards this season after that last drive.
00:16:45He stayed pretty busy this season, and the numbers show just that.
00:16:49Drive starts out with a first and ten.
00:17:03Working out of the gun.
00:17:05It's Rogers.
00:17:07Short pass brought in.
00:17:08And he'll get taken down after advancing this to the 37.
00:17:13That is a textbook first down completion.
00:17:17Sets up second and very manageable.
00:17:19And creates space to take that shot downfield.
00:17:22After a good pick-up, they're set up with second and short.
00:17:33From the 37.
00:17:34He's on the move.
00:17:38He's on the move.
00:17:39They get an even ten on that play.
00:17:42And it's good enough for a New York first down.
00:17:45As long as these are the results he's getting, they're going to be just fine with him calling his own number.
00:17:51He does such a good job of seeing the field and knowing when it's his time to take it himself.
00:17:56Football on that 47-yard line.
00:17:58First down.
00:18:01Off play action.
00:18:02Rogers.
00:18:04Pocket isn't holding up.
00:18:05They're able to drop him.
00:18:07And the big play drives them backwards.
00:18:10Second down coming up.
00:18:12You're going to go play action, Kate.
00:18:14You've got to sell, sell, sell.
00:18:16If you don't convince that defense you're running it,
00:18:18or if it's a situation where you never run the ball,
00:18:21you really do leave your quarterback dead in the water.
00:18:23They're vulnerable against a defense who will storm right past that fake and right into that pocket.
00:18:29All right.
00:18:29Here we go.
00:18:30Second down.
00:18:36Trying again.
00:18:37Following the set.
00:18:38That's going to be an incomplete pass on the throw to the right.
00:18:42That is normally a gimme for this offense.
00:18:44These short throws.
00:18:46But the defense, well, they had just enough influence on that play to force the incompletion.
00:18:53So after that prior incompletion, we've got third down.
00:19:00Here's Rogers.
00:19:03Escapes the pocket.
00:19:05Oh, he's going to run for it.
00:19:10You know, that may have been a situation when you look back on it,
00:19:13and he watches the tape the next day.
00:19:15And he's got to find a way to throw the ball,
00:19:16because his running ability, while it gets him some yards,
00:19:19is not enough to get the first down.
00:19:28So out now comes the punter.
00:19:30And this is the fifth time he's been called upon today.
00:19:35And he drives this into the pouring rain.
00:19:38So this one will go out of bounds,
00:19:39and they'll start to drive inside their own 30.
00:19:42The Saints come marching onto the field.
00:19:45And all the touchdowns are sure going to catch some eyes around the league,
00:19:49but sure not unexpected for those of us who saw how well he was throwing it
00:19:53back when he got his first couple of scores.
00:19:55Yeah, and if anything, he's only continued to improve and play better,
00:19:58as this defense tried and tried and failed and failed to find any way to slow him down.
00:20:15They're out and set.
00:20:17First and ten.
00:20:17Running back, motioning right.
00:20:28Carnau on first and ten.
00:20:31Pocket isn't holding up.
00:20:32They're able to drop it.
00:20:34And the big play drives them backwards.
00:20:37Second down coming up.
00:20:39Here's what I know.
00:20:40I know this one, Cade, from personal experience.
00:20:42After this one's over QB,
00:20:44well, he's going to spend some time in that cold tub
00:20:46because he's spending so much time on the ground
00:20:48taking a beating today.
00:20:51This offensive line, this offense has got to find a way to protect the passer.
00:20:56Everyone's prepped.
00:20:57It's second down now.
00:21:06Another try following the sack.
00:21:08And he just got it away before the hit,
00:21:12but the pass winds up incomplete.
00:21:13It's going to be third down.
00:21:16You need to buy your receivers enough time to get open along the route
00:21:19and your quarterback enough time to find and hit them with the throw.
00:21:23When the line doesn't hold up,
00:21:25incompletions follow.
00:21:27No connection on the last play,
00:21:28and out's third down.
00:21:29From the shotgun, Carr.
00:21:35He throws a bullet deep to the right side.
00:21:38That's complete inside the 35-yard line.
00:21:43And he's into the end zone.
00:21:44Touchdown, New Orleans.
00:21:47The Saints could push this to a four-score game
00:21:50as they take a 23-point lead.
00:21:53Chris Olave with the touchdown.
00:21:56His fourth receiving score of the game.
00:21:58And it's one of the records that's always there lurking.
00:22:01In the back of your mind,
00:22:02whenever QBs have a really good game, right, partner?
00:22:05And we're just fortunate that we were here to finally see it fall.
00:22:08He's the first ever to throw eight touchdowns in a single game.
00:22:12Well, with that score right there, Brock,
00:22:26he has reached one of the pinnacles of playing quarterback here in the NFL.
00:22:30The most touchdown passes in a single game.
00:22:33And I can promise you, after this game, he's going to do...
00:22:36I remember Peyton and Marvin having a back-and-forth after breaking the record.
00:22:39Neither of them wanted the ball because they knew it took all of them.
00:22:43And I promise you, after the game at the podium,
00:22:45he'll say the same thing today.
00:22:46It's his name in the record book,
00:22:48but this is an offensive explosion for a day.
00:22:50Here's Groupion now to handle the kickoff.
00:23:20Here's Abani Kanda on the return.
00:23:26And pretty solid field position starting out here, Brock.
00:23:29He's tackled at the 29.
00:23:31Their offense ready to take the field now.
00:23:34That score pushed the deficit to 24,
00:23:36so every opportunity to chip away at it important as they take the field.
00:23:40Offense ready to begin this drive.
00:23:52First and ten.
00:23:56To throw is Rogers.
00:23:59He's on the move.
00:24:01He takes it himself.
00:24:02You know, Kate, they always say that QB clock.
00:24:06You know what it's more like?
00:24:06It's more like an alarm.
00:24:08Especially in a situation like that.
00:24:10And it's a good thing you woke up to.
00:24:11Able to make something out of nothing
00:24:12and at least keep him moving forward.
00:24:18Second and three now.
00:24:19A give left side for Hall.
00:24:29And he'll go down.
00:24:30It will say right at the 39-yard line.
00:24:33Give him three on that game.
00:24:35And it'll give the Jets a first down.
00:24:38You know what I like about a second and short run play, Kate?
00:24:41Yeah, I like getting a first down.
00:24:43But you know what I like even more?
00:24:44That's going to set up a play-action pass
00:24:46in a similar down in distance.
00:24:48And that defense is going to have to key on the run.
00:24:51Going to the ground again on first.
00:24:54And he's going to work his way almost to midfield.
00:24:57That's stopped at the 48.
00:24:59Pickup of eight on the run.
00:25:00And that sets up second and two.
00:25:03That does not show up on any explosive stat sheet.
00:25:06But let me tell you, Kate, that's the real deal right there.
00:25:09You run for that kind of yardage consistently in the NFL.
00:25:12You do set yourself up for success.
00:25:16Hall gets it again on second down.
00:25:18And he's dropped just short of the marker, maybe a yard away.
00:25:34One yard, all that's needed.
00:25:36This is 13 inches.
00:25:37Now looking to throw with Rodgers.
00:25:44That's caught for the first.
00:25:46And they're going to haul him down just shy of the 40.
00:25:49Give him an even 10 yards on the play.
00:25:52And it's good enough for a New York first down.
00:25:54You know, they call that the money down for a reason.
00:25:58Because you're just simply not going to last long in the NFL if you don't convert a good portion of your third downs.
00:26:04It's the money down.
00:26:05And nice to see them roll the dice and continue the series.
00:26:09And they love to see him fighting forward, but he only gets them three.
00:26:12That's the kind of run play that feels like tug-of-war at field day.
00:26:16And you're just not moving the other side.
00:26:19Just a short run.
00:26:20Neither side feels particularly good about it.
00:26:22And we'll move to the next.
00:26:24Second down now.
00:26:25Seven to go.
00:26:26From the 38.
00:26:35Got Williams and it's complete.
00:26:38He gets it ahead and winds up with about three.
00:26:40Willie Gay there on the tackle.
00:26:52Third and four coming up now.
00:26:56Now here's Rodgers.
00:27:01Setting up the running back screen.
00:27:04And they bring him down.
00:27:05Looks like he got it to the 27.
00:27:08Eight yards on the gain and the drive continues forward.
00:27:11At that down and distance, this group is pretty confident that the screen will get them enough yards for the person it did.
00:27:17And so long as it keeps working like that, I bet you it'll be a go-to play for them when they need it the next time.
00:27:27Paul running between the tackles.
00:27:29And he's only able to power this forward for about three yards.
00:27:33Got to be rush hour, Kate, because there's a whole lot of traffic up the middle right there.
00:27:38He ran right into some gridlock and he can only manage a few yards at most.
00:27:45Second down now.
00:27:46Seven to go.
00:27:46Play fake.
00:27:53It's a Rodgers.
00:27:57That's cut at the four.
00:28:00And he's going to be tackled, but still all the way down to the six.
00:28:04They'll have first and goal to go now after they gain 18 on the previous play.
00:28:09Move the chains.
00:28:10Got to move the chains.
00:28:12Full momentum to keep that defense on its heels.
00:28:14Four downs now to get in.
00:28:17Here's first and goal.
00:28:20They'll run here.
00:28:21It's all.
00:28:22And they'll make this stop after a small push to the five.
00:28:26It's a gain of one on first and goal.
00:28:28Now it's going to be second and five.
00:28:32Okay.
00:28:32All right.
00:28:33There's a little progress on first and goal.
00:28:35You keep it safe.
00:28:36You push a little closer.
00:28:37And now you're set up for what you want to do on second down.
00:28:40Rodgers will look to throw.
00:28:48Almost had six, but can't find it in the end zone.
00:28:51Incomplete.
00:28:53You've got to have a short memory in the NFL.
00:28:56Incompletions happen.
00:28:57Now you've got to make the adjustment and go get the next one.
00:29:00So now here's third and goal.
00:29:11Pressure comes.
00:29:12Rodgers.
00:29:17Looking end zone, but touchdown denied.
00:29:19Knocked away.
00:29:20Incomplete.
00:29:22Boy, take a look at that.
00:29:23Look at him locking down his area of the end zone.
00:29:26They can bring it in close enough to take shots, but there are no easy touchdowns.
00:29:32So the Jets are going to try a field goal on fourth down.
00:29:35Greg Zerline headed out.
00:29:37A pretty automatic look for him from the left.
00:29:41Bass's kick is good.
00:29:43And that lowers the lead to 21.
00:29:46That's the type of long, sustained drive that takes some of the starch out of your opponent.
00:29:50The only negative is that the kicking team was out there for a field goal and not an extra point.
00:29:55But they do come away with three.
00:30:15It's all lined up.
00:30:16Morstead, ready to send this flying.
00:30:21Here's Miller on the return.
00:30:23He's got a lead.
00:30:25Up past the 30.
00:30:27They track him down, but a nice return in the end there, Brock.
00:30:30He's up to the 38.
00:30:32This offense and their quarterback making their way back out there.
00:30:35Ready to take over once again.
00:30:37And like we've seen from him before, Brock, he got a good game going early through the air
00:30:41and kept the pressure up from then on.
00:30:44He's still taking it to him now as we work through this second half.
00:30:46The Saints enjoying some good field position to start this drive off.
00:30:56First and 10 coming up.
00:30:58Throwing his car.
00:31:01Kamara's got it.
00:31:03And they're on him after about a two-yard gain.
00:31:05Wrapped up on that play by big Quinton Williams.
00:31:07It may not look like much on the stat sheet, but this is kind of good on good.
00:31:13An offense gets a completion, not going backwards.
00:31:16And the defense, well, they rallied.
00:31:18They pursued and kept that screen to a minimal gain.
00:31:21Second and eight.
00:31:30Into the hands of Olave.
00:31:33And they get this down to the 44 before he stopped.
00:31:37The end result there, 15 yards and a first.
00:31:39I don't care how good a secondary you are, how loaded you are with talent.
00:31:45When you've got time to allow a receiver to work from one side of the field
00:31:48all the way to the other versus zone coverage,
00:31:52well, you're going to make a defense pay.
00:31:55Throwing on first down.
00:31:56It's gone.
00:31:59This is reeled in by Kamara.
00:32:02And this one's worked down to the 33 before being stopped.
00:32:06And that one goes for a gain of 11.
00:32:08And that's good for a New Orleans first down.
00:32:12This running back is a mismatch maker.
00:32:16That's how I label him on my little sheet right here.
00:32:19Right under his bio.
00:32:20This guy just creates match-up nightmares for every defender on the field.
00:32:25They go play action with Karr.
00:32:30And he just gets rid of it.
00:32:32Knew he had a couple of plays left.
00:32:34Didn't want to take a risk there on first down.
00:32:38So after the incompletion, here comes the second down call.
00:32:52Back to the air.
00:32:53Karr.
00:32:54He'll dump this one off to his running back complete.
00:32:58And he pushes this down to the 22-yard line.
00:33:02It's a pickup of 11.
00:33:04And the Saints are going to have a first down.
00:33:07Year after year, the best offenses are multifaceted.
00:33:11It's not just the receivers or the tight ends that can make plays through the air.
00:33:15When you get running backs that can attack the middle of the field like that,
00:33:18man, is it difficult on the defense.
00:33:20Why not go back to it again if it's working complete?
00:33:26And he gets this forward to the 19.
00:33:30A very active quarter for us.
00:33:32Plenty of points in that frame as we reach the end of three.
00:33:36The Saints have it as we start the fourth.
00:33:37And they can probably go on cruise control with that lead.
00:33:40Second and six coming up here.
00:33:59Running back, sent in motion left.
00:34:03Rowing again.
00:34:04It's Karr.
00:34:06Got to him right as he threw it.
00:34:08And it falls to the ground.
00:34:10Trying to get it to Chris Olave.
00:34:13And that makes it third down.
00:34:15This is why we hear about closing speed so often when you evaluate players.
00:34:20You know, once he senses the pressure, he's getting rid of that ball.
00:34:23It takes a player who can close quickly to get to him before it's released and alter that throw.
00:34:29Karr throwing on third.
00:34:31Hits him on the out route.
00:34:33And not much doing.
00:34:35He stopped quickly.
00:34:37You can earn your money in the NFL in all sorts of different ways.
00:34:40But defensively, in a league where you're just not hitting as much in training camp,
00:34:44you're not tackling as much as they got to in the old days,
00:34:47when you can make a play in the open field, keep them short like that,
00:34:50I promise you some money will follow.
00:34:52A 34-yard attempt.
00:34:56Mickazomney's kick is good.
00:34:58And the advantage now sits at 24.
00:35:01Get another shot across the bow of a ship that's already sinking here, Kate.
00:35:05He could have made that field goal.
00:35:06Heck, he could have turned around and kicked it directly in his coach
00:35:09because it feels like they've got this one in hand.
00:35:11Here's groupie on now to handle the kickoff.
00:35:37Gibson now to return.
00:35:39And a decent return ends as they bring him down inside the 30.
00:35:46Another drive coming up for this offense.
00:35:48And the last drive did end in points.
00:35:50Not as many as they wanted, though.
00:35:52They had to settle for that field goal despite advancing the football pretty well.
00:35:55They'll get this drive started.
00:36:10First and ten.
00:36:14From the shotgun, Rogers.
00:36:16And there's a man there.
00:36:21It's intercepted.
00:36:23Alante Taylor has it.
00:36:25And the Saints take possession down inside the 30 after the interception.
00:36:30Well, the QBs in this league, they love their slot guys.
00:36:33We see it all over the NFL.
00:36:35That close relationship between quarterback and slot receiver.
00:36:39They play in such, well, just such chemistry.
00:36:42But then when you get a defender that can get in the middle of it
00:36:45and mix it up and read and react in that kind of way,
00:36:48you get interceptions right out of the slot.
00:36:51That is a job well done.
00:36:54The offense returning to the field now as we get a look at their wideout.
00:36:57And even though they've got a three-score lead,
00:37:01still a lot of time left.
00:37:02So they're going to try to grow it even further.
00:37:08And the drive will start out with a first and ten.
00:37:15Running back sent in motion.
00:37:22And he's just going to get rid of this one.
00:37:24Smart move there.
00:37:25When you saw the field, it's going to be second down.
00:37:27There was almost no resistance offered against a rush
00:37:31that came off the line ready to maul anything in sight.
00:37:34It was all the QB could do to get rid of that
00:37:36before he gets absolutely clobbered.
00:37:39Couldn't connect on first.
00:37:40It's second down.
00:37:49Car here from the gun.
00:37:51Getting a lave on the slant.
00:37:54And he'll be brought down here at the 23-yard line.
00:37:57Good luck defending that short yardage slant.
00:38:00Just not going to happen.
00:38:01There's a reason.
00:38:02This is a go-to play for just about any quarterback in every situation.
00:38:06So now here's third and five.
00:38:09They kick the running back in motion.
00:38:15And he just gets rid of this one.
00:38:21But unfortunately, that means fourth down coming up.
00:38:25Well, that's when you chalk up to the pressure of earning that incompletion.
00:38:29They came in before he could find a target.
00:38:31Hit him.
00:38:32Altered that last second attempt to get rid of him.
00:38:34On fourth down, out comes the Saints' field goal team and Blake Groofy.
00:38:39This one from an even 40 yards out.
00:38:43Mick Adomney's kick is good.
00:38:46And that throws the lead to 27.
00:38:48So many of these players on the field, Kate, they just strive for consistency.
00:38:53But not the kickers.
00:38:54They strive for perfection.
00:38:55And so far, he's just that.
00:38:57Here's Groofy on now to handle the kickoff.
00:39:22Gibson now to return.
00:39:24They'll have decent field position to begin with here.
00:39:28Brock Eastsackle just beyond that 30-yard line.
00:39:32The Jets offense now set to take over.
00:39:34They are coming off their first interception of the game.
00:39:37This drive now a chance to rebuild some confidence.
00:39:51They've got first down from the 31.
00:39:54Looking to throw here and shake off that previous INT.
00:40:03Throwing the out route complete.
00:40:05It's a 13-yard play, and that's enough for the first.
00:40:09When you watch the combine, you'll watch guys try to make this throw.
00:40:12Without chemistry, it's so hard to execute.
00:40:15That was picture perfect.
00:40:16That's a QB and receiver on the same page, because that route, that deep out to the field,
00:40:21that takes just a different level of connectedness.
00:40:25That just goes to show you can't take any completion for granted, even on some of the shortest passes in the game plan.
00:40:40No dice on that prior pass.
00:40:47Here's second down.
00:40:52Working out of the gun.
00:40:53It's Rogers.
00:40:53Escapes the pocket.
00:40:56He tucks it and takes off.
00:40:58Gets out of harm's way after stringing together some nice yards on that run.
00:41:01You know, Kate, back in the day, we had a slip and slide of practice for moments just like that.
00:41:07Actually practicing how to slide and get out of harm's way.
00:41:11Nice gain on the play.
00:41:12And denied that defense.
00:41:13He had another chance to take a shot on him.
00:41:18Now Rogers on third and short.
00:41:22Complete beyond the marker.
00:41:23And they catch up to him, but not until he's got a huge gain and a first down.
00:41:30They pick up 20 yards there.
00:41:33And it'll give the Jets a first down.
00:41:36That's what we call situational football.
00:41:38You spend all week working on your nickel passing game package to take advantage of third downs just like that.
00:41:47First down throw by Rogers.
00:41:51He's got a man left.
00:41:52And he'll be brought down here at the 23-yard line.
00:41:57He's just one of those guys, Kate.
00:41:58Even when he's not open, he's still a target thanks to that physicality and his ability to just play bully ball.
00:42:04They don't like forcing it into coverage, but sometimes when you've got a bully like him that can create space,
00:42:10you just find a way to get him the ball.
00:42:15They'll go right side with Hall.
00:42:17Room to the right.
00:42:19And he has it all the way down in the eight.
00:42:22And that one goes for 15.
00:42:24And now they're going to have first and goal.
00:42:27That right there, that will make the coaches happy.
00:42:29He didn't just get the first down, but got a healthy choke of bonus yards afterwards.
00:42:35They'll break the huddle and come up on first and goal.
00:42:37From the red zone now.
00:42:45He's on the move.
00:42:48And he protects himself for the slide there after a decent game.
00:42:52That is quarterback play in 101.
00:42:56Maybe not the first chapter of it, but man, is that important.
00:42:59Getting downfield.
00:43:00Get what you can with your legs.
00:43:02Then most importantly, protect yourself.
00:43:04Get down and don't take any extra contact.
00:43:07Rodgers here from the gun.
00:43:12Has it in close.
00:43:14And in.
00:43:15Touchdown, New York.
00:43:19Well, Brock, this one has not been good to them so far,
00:43:22but they are still fighting and able to get in there for six.
00:43:26Just a drive that was all about scratching and clawing.
00:43:29As much as anything, Kate, it was just a pride drive to go and get your job done.
00:43:33Zertaline on now for the extra points.
00:43:50Extra points sent in through the rain.
00:43:53And the Jets still have a lot of work to do, Brock.
00:43:55It's a 20-point difference now.
00:44:03It's all lined up.
00:44:27Morstead, ready to send this flying.
00:44:29Here's Miller on the return.
00:44:35And he's going to make this to the 28 before going down.
00:44:38Take over for a dead stand.
00:44:40At the road, 28-1.
00:44:42Drive starts out with a first and ten.
00:45:09They're going to start on the ground with Camara.
00:45:11And this one gets to the 33-yard line before it's stopped.
00:45:16First down play.
00:45:17Nets them five.
00:45:18It's going to be second and five.
00:45:20Fans love the long ball in baseball.
00:45:22It's like they have the home run derby.
00:45:23But you know what?
00:45:24Talk to managers and they will tell you small ball can win, too.
00:45:27Singles and doubles.
00:45:28You add them up, you could win a lot of baseball games.
00:45:31Football coaches will tell you, you get runs of that length.
00:45:33It may not be a home run.
00:45:34It may not score points.
00:45:36But it can do some serious damage.
00:45:38And he's tackled after gaining a handful.
00:45:42Give him four yards there.
00:45:43And they only need one more now on third down.
00:45:47They'll come away happy getting that type of output on most run plays.
00:45:50It's a sign that they're getting some good push up front.
00:45:52And this running back is seeing the lanes and paying them off.
00:45:55It's Kamara on third down.
00:46:03And he'll get them enough for a first down.
00:46:07Yeah, I get it.
00:46:08Fans will measure a running back's merit by touchdowns, yards.
00:46:11Fantasy football world we live in.
00:46:13But as coaches and teammates, Kate, they want something a little bit more.
00:46:16They want to see plays like that.
00:46:17A guy who will always get the short yards in a critical spot like that.
00:46:21Slated downs to approach here from the 40.
00:46:25They'll send him over right.
00:46:28First down and they go right back to him.
00:46:32And this is a nice game.
00:46:33Let's stop to the 47.
00:46:35Good rip on first down.
00:46:37That brings up second and two.
00:46:39I'm not kidding you, Kate.
00:46:40A run of that length at the NFL level, honestly,
00:46:43is the equivalent of a run of 15 plus at the high school level.
00:46:46It's hard in the run game to make yards.
00:46:49And they just got a very successful one.
00:46:51Give on second to Kamara.
00:46:58And he's tackled with the first down yardage.
00:47:02Kate, I know you can see that smile on my face as we stand next to each other.
00:47:06Sure, I love that run.
00:47:08But I'm thinking about some great running backs.
00:47:09In fact, Corey Dillon,
00:47:11who created a lot of negative grades on my play sheet
00:47:14because I didn't want to carry out no fake.
00:47:16I wanted to watch the damage he could do like we just saw.
00:47:24Kamara now on first and ten.
00:47:27And he lines up with a solid gain down past the 45.
00:47:31Halfway there on first down.
00:47:33That brings up second and five.
00:47:36A humble five to six yard gain on the ground.
00:47:38Not a huge gain.
00:47:38Not a game-changing play by any means.
00:47:41But one that keeps you on schedule
00:47:42and takes some of the starch out of that front seven.
00:47:46Counter give to Kamara.
00:47:52Oh, and get to him behind the line.
00:47:54And he loses the football.
00:47:56And no turnover.
00:47:57It's going to stay with the offense.
00:47:59Well, you don't like to see the fumble,
00:48:01but hey, at least they were able to be the ones to recover it
00:48:03and they keep possession.
00:48:05Yeah, and I think the key there was to stay calm through the chaos.
00:48:08Cooler heads prevailed and got him the ball back.
00:48:16So near disaster a moment ago,
00:48:22but the drive's still in trouble if they can't convert on third.
00:48:26They run it from the gun with Kamara.
00:48:29And he's short of the first after a mild gain.
00:48:33A five-yard gain.
00:48:34That's going to bring up fourth and three.
00:48:37That run's not going to turn many heads,
00:48:39but at the end of the year, I promise you,
00:48:41if you average over five yards a run,
00:48:44you're going to be a pro borer.
00:48:46Fourth and three.
00:48:46Drive on the line.
00:48:48From the shotgun, Kahn.
00:48:58And that one's going to be knocked away,
00:49:00and that's going to force a change in possession.
00:49:03So the defense rises to the challenge
00:49:05and gives the ball back to their offense.
00:49:09The home teams and Mike Williams
00:49:11getting set for another go on offense.
00:49:13Sometimes a quarterback gets so focused on coverage down the field,
00:49:18you lose sight of those linemen right in front of you.
00:49:21On that occasion, he throws it right to the D lineman.
00:49:24Easy to get the paw up and swat away a potential first down.
00:49:30Nice field position for the Jets
00:49:32as they come up first and ten.
00:49:36Here's Rodgers.
00:49:37Into the hands of Conklin.
00:49:41They'll move the chains after that pickup of 12.
00:49:44You know, it sure seems like he knew exactly
00:49:46where he was going with that before the snap.
00:49:48That's a pre-snap decision
00:49:50that led to a post-snap first down.
00:49:56First and ten.
00:49:57Ball set up at the 48.
00:50:02Throwing from the gun here.
00:50:06Able to hit home.
00:50:07Complete.
00:50:09And he's brought down after pushing to that 35-yard line.
00:50:1312 yards on that play
00:50:15and a good call.
00:50:15And that's him the first.
00:50:17Sure seems like he knew exactly what he wanted
00:50:19and he got it.
00:50:21Going right where he wanted to
00:50:22with the ball off the snap.
00:50:25They're set up at the 35 now.
00:50:27To the end here on first down, Rodgers.
00:50:35Escapes the pocket.
00:50:36He's going to pull this one down and run with it.
00:50:39He gets a little something out of it
00:50:40before sliding to a stop.
00:50:43He made something out of that play for them.
00:50:45Everyone's so concerned with defending the pass
00:50:48they didn't quite keep tabs on what he was doing as a QB.
00:50:51And it gave him just enough room to run.
00:50:54Second and six coming up here.
00:51:00From the 31.
00:51:04He's on the move.
00:51:05Trying to get away from the pressure
00:51:07but he can't and they drop him.
00:51:10And that pushes him back.
00:51:12Third down coming up.
00:51:14Well, Parker, I think this defense had enough.
00:51:16This QB has been getting out of the pocket
00:51:19and doing damage with his legs.
00:51:21But not this time.
00:51:22Great pursuit.
00:51:23Great effort.
00:51:24And they're able to wrap him up for the sack.
00:51:29Wonder what's in the playbook here
00:51:31as they come up on third and 11.
00:51:38Now here's Rodgers.
00:51:41That's cut for the first.
00:51:42And they finally bring him down.
00:51:45But that is a big gain
00:51:47and a new set of downs.
00:51:49They rip off a big chunk of field
00:51:51and it sets him up with first and goal.
00:51:53Just about every offense
00:51:55since the beginning of time
00:51:56since the forward pass, Kate,
00:51:58has loved a tight end
00:51:59that could stretch the middle of the field.
00:52:00Man, I remember as a kid
00:52:02watching Kellen Winslow Sr.
00:52:04dice up right here between the ashes
00:52:06and what a difference it can make for an offense.
00:52:09And look at the footwork there.
00:52:12Touchdown!
00:52:13The Jets get it back to within two possessions.
00:52:17They were throwing for it there
00:52:19and they didn't care who knew about it, Brock.
00:52:21And it turns out, hey,
00:52:22nothing was going to stop them either.
00:52:24Yeah, there's something about an empty formation.
00:52:26You are declaring to a defense.
00:52:27Other than QB draw,
00:52:28this ball is going to be in the air.
00:52:30But at the same time,
00:52:31you also force the defense's hand.
00:52:33There's only so many coverages they can play
00:52:35and they just exposed them.
00:52:36Zertaline on now for the extra point.
00:52:46Got a good plant in the rain there.
00:52:49The extra point flies through.
00:52:51And the Jets drop the lead back to 13.
00:52:53It's all lined up.
00:53:22Morstan ready to send this flying.
00:53:27Shahid now to return.
00:53:30Oh, he's shown some burst on this return.
00:53:33Coverage team traps him down
00:53:34as the return reaches the 35.
00:53:36The Saints take over last and 10
00:53:38at their own 35-yard line.
00:53:58The Saints enjoying some good field position
00:54:00to start this drive off.
00:54:02First and 10 coming up.
00:54:03Working out of the gun.
00:54:09It's caught.
00:54:10That one is incomplete.
00:54:12Couldn't hang on through the contact.
00:54:15You go middle of the field against zone coverage,
00:54:17Brock, you know this firsthand.
00:54:18You are throwing into rush hour.
00:54:20And there just aren't a lot of easy completions
00:54:22to be found in that part of the field.
00:54:23Yeah, and a lot of those throws, Kate,
00:54:25you're signing your guy up
00:54:26to take some sort of hit.
00:54:27It's on you to protect your guys.
00:54:30Credit that defense for flying around
00:54:32and making the play.
00:54:34Second and 10.
00:54:34Here's Carr.
00:54:39No better luck than the last play, Brock,
00:54:40because he just has to get rid of it.
00:54:42Last pass unsuccessful, and they have third down here.
00:55:01Slotman in motion right.
00:55:02Here he is on third and long.
00:55:08And even on third down, he sees no choice
00:55:11other than to get rid of it.
00:55:12Not the play they wanted.
00:55:14It's going to be fourth down.
00:55:16That is a DB's best friend, pressure.
00:55:19That pressure earned that incompletion.
00:55:21They came in before he could find a target
00:55:23and hit him to alter that last second attempt
00:55:26to get rid of it.
00:55:27Punt team is on now, and they get this away.
00:55:34And a sure-handed play there in the rain.
00:55:36He brings in the fair catch without a problem.
00:55:39The home teams and this running back
00:55:42headed back out for a new series.
00:55:44And they're coming off an excellent series
00:55:46throwing the football that lent to that touchdown, Brock.
00:55:49So you and I both expecting that defense
00:55:51to be looking for that on this series.
00:55:57They're out and set.
00:56:01First and ten.
00:56:06Now Rodgers.
00:56:10Able to find Corley.
00:56:12And he'll go down after fighting his way to the 32.
00:56:16Give him 15 yards on the pickup there.
00:56:18And it's good enough for a New York first down.
00:56:22Well, that is pretty darn impeccable timing
00:56:24between the two.
00:56:25They hit a curl route of that length.
00:56:26It takes great anticipation and precision
00:56:29by the quarterback.
00:56:30And the receiver on the other end
00:56:31finishing it, doing his job.
00:56:35That's to the sideline.
00:56:37It's a catch by Williams.
00:56:39And he goes out.
00:56:40Just needed one more step to reach midfield.
00:56:43He finds him 16 yards and a new set of downs.
00:56:47They've run this 12-yard out route, Cade,
00:56:49at the combine, well, all the way back
00:56:51to last century when I had to throw it.
00:56:53In this throw, this is a big-boy throw.
00:56:55This is a differentiator.
00:56:56Can you make that deep out throw on time,
00:56:59on rhythm, and accurately?
00:57:01Well, that was teaching tape right there.
00:57:04And this is marked down right along that 40-yard line.
00:57:08And that one goes for a gain of 11.
00:57:10And it'll give the Jets a first down.
00:57:13Boy, they sure found the right route
00:57:15at the right time to hit the soft spot
00:57:17in that coverage.
00:57:18And that slant, it goes for big yardage.
00:57:21Here's Rodgers on first and 10.
00:57:27It's taken in by Williams.
00:57:30And he's brought down at about that 27-yard line.
00:57:34They get 13 on the pickup.
00:57:36And it's good enough for a New York first down.
00:57:38It sure seemed like he knew exactly where he was going
00:57:43with that right off the snap.
00:57:45Working quickly here.
00:57:48Throwing again.
00:57:49It's Rodgers.
00:57:51That throw finds Coughlin.
00:57:53And he gets this forward to the 19.
00:57:55That is the epitome of staying on schedule.
00:57:59That kind of completion right there on first down.
00:58:01Well, it opens up the entirety of the playbook
00:58:03for second down.
00:58:05And the third and short in your back pocket
00:58:06can get even more aggressive and take that shot.
00:58:10Moving quickly.
00:58:11Trying to get set again.
00:58:14Underneath it goes.
00:58:15Catch made by the running back.
00:58:17And he'll pick up enough to move the chains.
00:58:21So we're down at the two-minute warning here from New York.
00:58:24Jets down by a very unlucky 13.
00:58:29Down a couple of scores, but still some time left
00:58:31and three timeouts as well.
00:58:32It's first and 10.
00:58:34Again, Rodgers.
00:58:37He brings it in.
00:58:39And he'll go down shy of the end zone.
00:58:41They mark him at the four.
00:58:43You know what I love to say?
00:58:44You never go broke taking a profit.
00:58:46And you often gain profits when you use your eyes as a quarterback.
00:58:50Those hitch routes, those underneath throws,
00:58:51oftentimes it's the eyes of the quarterback looking downfield
00:58:55and then taking that short completion.
00:58:57Jets moving quickly.
00:58:58Trying to get the offense set.
00:59:01Splits a couple of defenders and completes it.
00:59:04And he's tackled for a short game.
00:59:08I'll tell you this.
00:59:09You don't want to make a living throwing into double coverage,
00:59:11but double coverage and still finding a way to beat the defense and haul it in.
00:59:15That's not a situation many players win.
00:59:18And there aren't a lot of quarterbacks willing to make that throw
00:59:21and trust their receiver to get it done.
00:59:23Looking touchdown, but can't connect.
00:59:27Thought he had a touchdown there.
00:59:30And now they're left with fourth and short.
00:59:33Just something off in the rhythm of their passing game on that one.
00:59:36Time to recalibrate and keep throwing it to get back into rhythm.
00:59:41Offense still staying out after the incompletion.
00:59:43They're going to try on fourth.
00:59:46They'll run for it with Hall.
00:59:48And he's brought down for a loss.
00:59:52And that run won't come close.
00:59:54That's a turnover on downs.
00:59:56This running back has had himself a day, but not on that play.
01:00:00Finally, a little bit of catharsis for everyone on that defense
01:00:03to keep him from the first and get a turnover, a much-needed turnover on downs.
01:00:09The Saints and Chris Olave ready to take over once again on offense.
01:00:15And they should just be able to kneel out what time remains.
01:00:17There's three timeouts defensively still available,
01:00:20but using him is not going to alter this outcome.
01:00:34Offense ready to begin this drive.
01:00:36First and ten.
01:00:43Running behind center with Camaro.
01:00:45And he's in to the front for a game of about two.
01:00:49The Jets take their first timeout.
01:00:51And they still have two available for them as we approach the end of this game.
01:00:55Eight yards to go.
01:01:08Let's see how they approach the second down.
01:01:12They send a tight end in motion.
01:01:16They stay on the ground with Camaro.
01:01:18And once again, he doesn't manage much before getting brought down.
01:01:23Timeout taken by New York.
01:01:25That's its second.
01:01:26And they'll have just one left to burn now.
01:01:28Looking at a tough spot to punt it away if this third down is unsuccessful.
01:01:46Another run for Camaro.
01:01:47And that's good yardage with a new set of downs.
01:01:53The defense takes its third and final timeout.
01:01:57That's all they had.
01:01:58So the offense free to start running the clock down now.
01:02:00Victory formation here.
01:02:12Looks like they're going to take a knee on first down.
01:02:17The Saints in victory formation.
01:02:19Content to just knee this out.
01:02:21Nothing left to do now, Kate, but celebrate on one side.
01:02:24And watch on hopelessly from the other.
01:02:27What a hard-fought effort to get to this spot.
01:02:30And now you can enjoy the victory.
01:02:33Lining up to take a knee on second down.
01:02:42Your favorite formation, right, Brock?
01:02:44The victory formation here as he takes a knee.
01:02:47Nothing left to do now, Kate, but celebrate on one side.
01:02:50And watch on hopelessly from the other.
01:02:53What a hard-fought effort to get to this spot.
01:02:56And now you can enjoy the victory.
01:02:59So this is a win on the road for the Saints.
01:03:02And we know how rain can wreak havoc at any moment on a football field, but they didn't
01:03:07let that stop them today.
01:03:08They played their game, and as a result, they're leaving here with a victory.
01:03:11So for Brock Eward, our incredible crew, everybody here at EA Sports, I'm Kate Scott, signing off.
01:03:19We'll see you next time.
01:03:21It's a win for the Saints, as we say so long from New York.
01:03:24We'll see you next time.
01:03:26We'll see you next time.
01:03:51We'll see you next time.
