00:00Paddy Whelan has spent a lifetime dreaming of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
00:08A chance encounter is set to make that dream a reality.
00:11I've spent all of my younger years looking at all the guys flying out here from home
00:16and being part of that is a once in a lifetime opportunity for guys like me.
00:20The concierge here at the CYCA had some sailors wanting a ride
00:25and thank our lucky stars, Paddy was one of those people.
00:29Unlike the super maxis that dominate the sea with sophisticated navigation systems
00:34and crews of more than 20, the little crew on the clockwork has always had one simple motto.
00:40We're going to follow Australia until there's no Australia, find Australia again,
00:44keep going, keep Australia on the left, er right, and then turn right and go to Hobart.
00:49We've got chartplotter which is our sort of primary source of not hitting anything.
00:53But for the first time the clockwork will have its very own navigator.
00:57Doing the navigation side this time is going to be super exciting because, you know,
01:00there might be some interesting holes and opportunities there that we can take advantage of.
01:04While the super maxis are tipped to take the major runners,
01:08the clockwork has an eye on winning its own race for the second year running.
01:12We've got our own Sydney 38 Division, seven boats that are one design, no handicap between us.
01:19It's first over the line so it's a sprint all the way there.
01:22So this is a bid.
01:24The crew of ten is confined to tight quarters for the four day journey
01:28and has made it their mission to raise awareness for those living rough.
01:32Part of our journey is being partnered with Orange Sky.
01:34They're an amazing charity that look after people doing it tough and living rough.
01:39It may not be the fastest but this small but perfectly formed crew
01:43will certainly be looking to make a big splash.
01:45It's a big splash.
01:46It's a big splash.
