00:00So the Mets, they continue to revamp their core this offseason.
00:04Jeff McNeil is out the door.
00:06He's heading to Oakland, and this is a time for Mets fans to think about
00:10how a lot has changed in the last couple of weeks.
00:12Brandon Nimmo was traded away, Pete Alonzo, and with Diaz,
00:16they were not re-signed, and now Jeff McNeil,
00:19part of that core of Mets players, is out the door.
00:23And look, I think when you think back about Jeff McNeil,
00:25you'll think back about how he was a two-time All-Star,
00:28how he was a former NL Baton champion.
00:32That was four years ago.
00:33But since then, the numbers really haven't been that great.
00:35He never reached that height once again.
00:37He was 33 years old.
00:39Yes, he had versatility as a guy who could play multiple positions.
00:42You saw him play around the infield a little bit.
00:44You saw him also play in the outfield even last year,
00:47played some center field.
00:48But the numbers were declining.
00:49The defense also was declining.
00:51It was time to move on.
00:52So the Mets make this trade.
00:54They're able to save some money here, about $10 million.
00:56The Mets are trying to change this core,
00:58and they're also trying to change the vibes in the locker room.
01:01And we knew the vibes were not good
01:02between Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor.
01:05So that wasn't going to work,
01:07because Lindor is the face of the franchise.
01:09And I think what Mets fans have to try to embrace at least bit,
01:13because some are going to be sad about the fact
01:15that some of these guys are gone.
01:17But at some point, you have to try to change the culture.
01:20And that is what the Mets are trying to do here.
