00:00The world has a lot of ecological problems like biodiversity loss, climate change, ecological pressures.
00:09Now time to take actions. The work we do, it's not for us, for the world, for the nature and for the future generations.
00:23Across Azerbaijan, environmental action covers more than biodiversity alone.
00:27National institutions and companies such as IDEA work across land and sea and environmental protection.
00:33One of the clearest responses can be seen in the expansion and protection of national parks across the country.
00:41The first protected area was created in 1910 and then the network of protected areas has enlarged.
00:48Now we have 12 national parks, 9 state national reserves and 24 state nature sanctuaries.
00:58The area is home for endangered and rare species such as imperial eagle, goat red gazelles, brown bear, white-tailed eagle and others.
01:07While it's great to see the work of the government creating national parks such as this, what's even more impressive is the work of local organizations such as IDEA,
01:19who have helped reintroduced bison to northern Azerbaijan and also helped to protect its most important asset, the Caspian Sea.
01:26Bison, which are symbols of our Caucasus eco-region, lived in our country in very old times.
01:42We started this project in 2018 and Ismaili district was selected as one of the points where this species could still be restored.
01:57And after that we found animals in European zoos which still have genes of Caucasian bison.
02:07So we bring here only those individuals which have genes of Caucasian mountain race of bison.
02:17Now they live in the wild.
02:19In the summer time they graze in alpine belt and in cold season in winter time they come down to forest and spend winter period in the forested areas.
02:38IDEA have used the same approach, working on projects in the Caspian Sea.
02:44Macroplastic pollution is one of the another problematic issues of the Caspian Sea.
02:49A lot of plastic pollution is distributed from the other countries, come across the currents to the Caspian coast.
02:56A number of the activities being held are lead by the IDEA to clean up the Caspian coast from these plastics.
03:02These environmental pressures are now shaping wider conversations about cooperation, responsibility and the future.
03:11IDEA was created with a clear purpose to respond to environmental challenges in Azerbaijan and around the world.
03:18From the very beginning we understood that ecology is much more than saving species or addressing climate issues.
03:27It's about the way we live, our lifestyle, our culture and the impact each of us has on the environment.
03:32While unfortunately many countries are losing their reserves, Azerbaijan continues to increase them.
03:40Two new national parks have opened in recent years and others have been expanded.
03:46Next year we are expecting to open the Garabakh National Park which will bring the country's protected areas to around 30% of its territory.
03:54Today we are focusing on new urgent challenges, especially the situation in the Caspian Sea, declining water levels, pollution and growing threats to marine life, including the Caspian Sea.
04:08This is a crisis no single country can solve alone.
04:12We must work together and value the Caspian Sea as a shared national treasure.
04:17I think at the moment we reach the stage where environment is much more about action.
04:24We spoke about it enough, of course it's important, but nature doesn't need us speaking anymore, it needs us to act.
04:31And the most important is to stay positive, understand that you by yourself can make a huge difference and together we can achieve miracles.
04:41Together these efforts are strengthening protection for ecosystems, restoring species and building cooperation across land and sea to safeguard biodiversity for future generations.
