00:00Under the management of Tom Blaine,
00:04Barton Studd has become one of the leading consignors
00:06in boarding farms in Britain.
00:08Always in the pursuit of growth,
00:10the farm has reopened its stallion shed
00:12and has welcomed Group 1 winner Skorthy Champ
00:14to stand for 2026.
00:16Blaine tells TDN about his ambition
00:18to have a stallion operation
00:19and what it means for the British breeders.
00:27Skorthy Champ was,
00:28he's a horse that we've been following
00:30for a couple of years.
00:31He was obviously an incredibly good two-year-old.
00:33He won the national stakes.
00:35We've been following him for a number of years.
00:37I never thought we'd get him
00:38because being a new stallion operation,
00:41I just thought he was going to be too good.
00:43Group 1 winner, he's got a very good pedigree
00:45out of a new approach mare.
00:46So there's a lot of things that we liked about him.
00:49Speaking with Joseph,
00:50that we realised that there probably is a deal to be done.
00:52There were a number of other people interested,
00:54but Joseph was very helpful in helping us get the horse
00:57and was very keen to support us.
00:58So I've got him to thank
01:00and a lot of other people to thank.
01:01Billy Jackson Stops did the deal
01:03and we're really excited to have him.
01:06Have you asked,
01:07would we stand a Group 1 winner
01:08with a pedigree like his?
01:10I just would have laughed.
01:11I would have never thought it was possible.
01:12So we're delighted to have him.
01:14Skorthy Champ, he's a lovely big horse.
01:16I think people are already being pleasantly surprised
01:18by the sort of scope he's got.
01:20He's got a lovely walk.
01:21There's plenty of new approach about him.
01:23He's correct and he's sort of 16-1 and a bit
01:27and just got a lovely sort of presence.
01:30He's settling great
01:31and I really like what I see when he shows
01:33and he's just a lovely person to have around.
01:35And I think that's a lot.
01:36For us, it's really...
01:38Our first horse being a nice character is lovely.
01:40He goes out every day
01:41and it's just very straightforward
01:42and Teddy's looking after him at the moment
01:44and just says he's an absolute gentleman.
01:47Barton's got a rich history of standing stallions
01:49and I've been here,
01:50I've been running the stud for sort of 13 years
01:53and ever since I first came here,
01:55it became apparent to me that we could do it
01:58and it's something I've always wanted to do
02:00and it's taken me 10 years or so
02:02to build the business up.
02:03We've built the consigning up.
02:04We've got a great team of clients here,
02:07they've supported us.
02:08We've got amazing mares.
02:09So I feel we've got to a stage
02:11where it was the obvious next step.
02:14The day he arrived,
02:15it's a different feel to the stud having a stallion
02:17with the stallion yard back open
02:18and I think it's how a stud should be run,
02:22especially a stud of our size.
02:24We've got loads of space
02:25and it means a lot
02:27and I just want to knuckle down
02:29and give it our best shot
02:30and give him the best shot
02:31and just try and do our best really.
02:33I've been blown away by the clients that we do have,
02:36the support that they've already shown
02:39is they've all sort of jumped in behind this horse
02:41and I feel very lucky.
02:44I just want to help British breeders
02:45do as well as they can
02:46and then we all do well
02:47and it's as simple as that.
02:48It sounds sort of slightly sort of cliche
02:50but it is an industry
02:53that has its many struggles.
02:55I'm an optimist, always have been.
02:56I love what I do
02:57and I think it's a great industry
02:59and I think racing will be around
03:00for a lot of years to come
03:01but it's not going to be easy
03:03and I want to do my bit
03:05to help as best we can.
03:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:09Yeah, yeah.
03:10I love it
03:10but I can help as well as this
03:11don't know
03:13the story, you let me know
03:15how I do
03:15and I think
03:17it does
03:18well
03:18and I think
03:20I've seen
03:21when I紹介
03:22that
03:22I've seen
03:23and I have seen
03:23that
03:25utan
03:26and
03:27I think
03:29that
03:30and
03:30and
