00:00Hello, everybody, and welcome to Giants Live.
00:22We're on the road to the World's Strongest Man Finals,
00:25which are coming up very soon here in Sacramento, California.
00:28Today, it's day two on the Giants Live qualifying tour,
00:32and the action comes from Leeds with Europe's Strongest Man.
00:35Now, few things in sport are as satisfying as a comeback story,
00:39and today we have potentially a doozy for you.
00:41It features a man who spent almost his entire career
00:44trying to recapture the electrifying form he showed almost a decade ago.
00:49His name is Matthias Kulaskowski, the Terminator to his friends,
00:53and could this be the year that he finally is back?
00:58Well, this is a very fast time.
01:14That is the most impressive stone run I have ever seen.
01:17That is something special right there, ladies and gentlemen.
01:19He was literally slam dunking the first three stones down
01:22to one motion that last stone.
01:24What a fit of strength.
01:26The highlight of the show for me.
01:28It's a great start.
01:30This is extraordinary.
01:32Ten seconds on the nose.
01:35Now we have a world record.
01:37Crushed it.
01:39Seriously, my career was perfect.
01:41I climbed on the top very, very fast.
01:44When I started, I started to win.
01:50I climbed very high on the top level.
01:52I said one day I have to win Europe's strongest man
01:55and world's strongest man.
01:56And I try to keep this plan until today.
02:01Then I got one injury a second.
02:03It was like something like domino.
02:05After every time when I wanted to come back here,
02:12I got some next and other problem.
02:14My life changed a lot since 2019.
02:34My son born.
02:36He's six years old almost now.
02:38And he understands a lot.
02:39He interests the sport.
02:40He wants to be strongman one day.
02:42But I said, no, it's not a guy's idea.
02:45Better if you study and become maybe doctor
02:47and fix people like me.
02:53Finally, they fix me.
02:56But my body do a lot of steps back.
03:00Everything, every muscle in my body was weaker.
03:05Sometimes I'm really afraid to lift.
03:07But during training, more and more
03:10and my confidence is stronger.
03:12Better if everything will going well,
03:15like now, I will be stronger than the past.
03:18And my confidence will be also stronger.
03:22Sometimes I think maybe I'm stupid,
03:24but I love this sport.
03:25I'm really, really love.
03:26I really like compete.
03:30I think my potential is still good.
03:33But I have to be patient.
03:35More safety.
03:37Don't get hurt again.
03:38Well, a real test of the Kieliszkowski comeback today
03:52in Leeds, where we have a very special guest presenter.
03:55The winner here in 2016, Laurence Charley.
03:58Welcome to Leeds for this year's Europe's Strongest Man.
04:01Behind me, we've got one of the best athletes we've seen in the sport,
04:04Mateusz Kieliszkowski from Poland.
04:06He's never won this title,
04:08and we haven't seen him at Giants Live for six years.
04:11He's going to be up against three former Europe's Strongest Man champions
04:15and a whole host of incredible athletes.
04:18Without further ado, let's find out all 12 of our athletes at this contest.
04:24Let's do that indeed.
04:26First up, from Italy, the Italian Stallion.
04:31He's an Italy's Strongest Man winner, Nicholas Camby.
04:39From Ireland, the Limerick Lion.
04:42Three-time World's Strongest Man competitor,
04:45five-time Ireland's Strongest Man,
04:47Pa O'Dwyer.
04:51A real veteran of the sport,
04:5342 years old, from Estonia.
04:56Finished just off the podium in fourth place here in 2021.
05:00It's Rhino Heinle.
05:01Now, this guy is getting attention.
05:08That's how he does it.
05:09Catching people's eye.
05:10Finished fourth, the Britain's Strongest Man,
05:13Paddy Haynes.
05:16Just 23 years old, from the Czech Republic.
05:20Brilliant presser.
05:21He can move like a whippet.
05:23Andre Foytu.
05:24Talking of fast movers.
05:29Andrew Flying Flynn came third place in Britain's Strongest Man.
05:33Also second in last year's England's Strongest Man.
05:36One to watch.
05:39From Latvia.
05:40Finished second place here last year.
05:42Third the year before.
05:44Tell me he's a big fan of meatballs.
05:46I don't know why they said that.
05:47Ivar Sporkstelis.
05:48And he's back.
05:53Kieliszkowski.
05:55Two-time World's Strongest Man runner-up.
05:58One of the sport's biggest talents.
06:04Remember this guy from Europe's Strongest Man.
06:07Back in 2020, he was Europe's Strongest Man.
06:11Luke Richardson.
06:14Six foot six.
06:1527 stone.
06:19Former Welsh guard and rugby player for London Irish.
06:22It's big Gavin Bilton.
06:27From Ukraine.
06:29It's handsome Pav.
06:312023 Europe's Strongest Man.
06:33Pablo Korniaka.
06:38And he needs no introduction.
06:40It'd be weird if I just stopped introducing him.
06:44Luke Stoltman.
06:47He's won this twice.
06:48He is the defending champion.
06:54And we start with the press medley.
06:58Yes, indeed.
06:58You've got to do two reps with a dumbbell.
07:00Then two with a safe press.
07:01Two with an axle.
07:03And then two with a log at the end.
07:05And this is what happened with Rauno Heinle.
07:06He struggled on the dumbbell.
07:08Paddy Haynes made it through to two reps on the dumbbell.
07:12But failed on the safe.
07:13Flynn.
07:13Well, he managed the dumbbell for two.
07:17Was anyone going to get anywhere near competing this?
07:21Parr O'Dwyer struggling with that safe.
07:25So difficult to lock it out.
07:27Just two reps for him.
07:28Well, we have some Strongman royalty in the crowd.
07:34Magnus Samuelsson.
07:36World's Strongest Man of 1998.
07:38One of the greats of all time.
07:41Now an actor.
07:44Came along to say hello.
07:45And to watch big Gavin Bilton.
07:53He has been paired with, again, the Italian stallion.
07:57Born in Florence.
07:58Phyllis Camby.
08:01Yes.
08:01Now living in New Jersey.
08:03Yes.
08:05Sounds more American than he does Italian.
08:07But he is Italy's Strongest Man.
08:11And look at the size of that dumbbell.
08:13He's not a small man, Camby.
08:15Even with big gab, it looks ridiculous.
08:19Two reps is what's needed.
08:20Paulie go on to this safe press.
08:2590 kilos that dumbbell now then.
08:28No problem at all for Camby.
08:29He goes straight off the floor to overhead.
08:32Being just under six foot.
08:34Maybe just helps a little bit there.
08:35Less of a wobble at the top.
08:39On to the axle.
08:41Now then.
08:42He steadies it.
08:43He's a great presser, Camby.
08:44Up it goes.
08:46Slightly more slender man than big gaff.
08:49He uses that power belly.
08:52It's a great effect.
08:54Up it goes.
08:56Yep.
08:56Both men on five now.
08:57Camby got the sixth one.
08:59But it's on his windpipe.
09:02Paul's at a day there.
09:04He's had enough.
09:04And it can have been supposed to.
09:07Fifteen seconds left.
09:10I don't think we're going to see him getting onto the log.
09:12But he might just about squeeze this sixth rep in.
09:16Five seconds to go.
09:17Come on, Gav.
09:19Up it goes.
09:20Loxel gets it.
09:21He's ready for more.
09:27Come on.
09:28Well, six reps then.
09:29One minute.
09:31Fourteen.
09:31He's looking in great shape, big guy.
09:35But good to see.
09:37Remember back to Britain as he fainted there.
09:40He was struggling for fitness.
09:41But now he's looking solid.
09:42Really solid.
09:45Schmork Stelis then.
09:46Don't forget the fun fact I told you earlier.
09:48Stablet food is meatballs.
09:50Memorise it.
09:50Write it down.
09:51Tell a friend.
09:52He's been paired with Foytu.
09:57Just 23 years old.
09:59Foytu's best event.
10:29Onto the axle for Foytu.
10:33And Schmork Stelis told to put his toys back into position as he goes onto the safe.
10:39Yes.
10:40Otherwise it's not fair on the other side.
10:43Part of the rules has to end up on the mat.
10:45Onto the second axle.
10:47And this is certainly to take the lead.
10:49And look good.
10:50Doing it too.
10:51Now then.
10:52The log.
10:52The final bit.
10:54Well, Foytu, the first person to do this.
10:59First man to touch it anyway.
11:01Can he get it up?
11:02Yes, he can.
11:03150 kilos.
11:04Little bit of a wobble.
11:06One more rep.
11:08Schmork Stelis is beaten.
11:10Managed three.
11:11But look at this.
11:13Foytu completes eight reps in just one minute, five seconds.
11:19Wow.
11:20A lot of people said this was an impossible medley, but he just proved it was doable.
11:25And Mr. Foytu is with Loz now.
11:28Andre, 64 seconds to do all eight implements.
11:33How are you feeling after that one?
11:35Tired, but good.
11:36Anything you can put in front of me, I'll press.
11:39And how's training been going for the next event?
11:41Obviously, pression, we know what you like.
11:43The next event's a bit more athletic.
11:44How are you feeling for the whole contest?
11:46Well, definitely in training, I was focusing more on rest of the events.
11:49Because I know the pressing is okay.
11:51So we'll have to see and hopefully it will go well.
11:54Well, it's a great start so far.
11:56Good luck with the rest of the show.
11:57Thank you very much.
11:59A great performance from Andre, but still to come in the press medley.
12:02And no less than three former European champions.
12:05We'll find out how they fare next on Giants Live.
12:20Well, welcome back to Leeds.
12:23Where Europe's strongest man continues.
12:25And it continues with the welcome return of the mighty pole, Kiela Szkowski.
12:34Going head-to-head.
12:36This presser medley against Luke Richardson.
12:39Well, this is a massive pairing.
12:43And Andre 42 leads, the only man to finish all eight reps so far.
12:49Watches on with a keen eye as these two men, two of the big favorites for today.
12:56Both do two reps and go on to the safe.
13:01Just fantastic to see Kiela Szkowski back and looking so strong.
13:05Wow, that was really impressive.
13:09He's a great presser, Kiela Szkowski.
13:12But his big injury was to his right tricep.
13:14Well, Luke Richardson, he knows all about damage to the body as well.
13:19These two guys have had so many operations between them.
13:22And right now they're in sync.
13:23On to the sixth rep.
13:25Well, this is massive for both men.
13:32As they move on to the lock.
13:35But again, only Foytu has had a crack at.
13:38He managed it.
13:39Look at that one motion from Kiela Szkowski.
13:42Wow.
13:43That's the way to catch up.
13:46And yes.
13:48Not just catch up, but dominate.
13:50Goodness me, that was fast and powerful.
13:54My goodness me, Luke Richardson as well.
13:57Eight reps.
13:58106.
14:00Very good.
14:01But Kiela Szkowski, the man to beat.
14:03Eight reps.
14:05He's never happy.
14:06One minute and two seconds.
14:07He's never happy.
14:08Is he not happy there?
14:09I don't know what's wrong with him.
14:11No performance is good enough for him.
14:13He's got very high standards.
14:16And that was extraordinary.
14:16Didn't rest on his shoulders at all on the way up.
14:19That's how to grab the lead.
14:25The final pair there.
14:27Handsome Pav.
14:30Kordiaka.
14:32Ukrainian.
14:35And from Scotland.
14:37Inver Gordon.
14:39Highland Oak, Luke Stoltman.
14:41And his little brother, Tom Stoltman, watches on.
14:45Yes, the reigning Europe's strongest man on the right-hand side.
14:52Also the reigning Britain's strongest man now.
14:54Between them, him and his big brother or little brother, Tom.
14:58They've got all the big titles.
14:59Tom, of course, world's strongest man.
15:02Decided not to do this contest to rest his body.
15:05And Luke.
15:07Looking really solid on the safe.
15:09The second one, super quick.
15:14Well, Kordiaka misjudging this.
15:20It's a real wobbler at the top, isn't it?
15:23Especially for a long-armed man.
15:25You take too long.
15:26It's so easy for it to come back down.
15:29First rep there on the axle for Luke Stoltman.
15:31And, oh no, he's not got it yet.
15:33He keeps going up.
15:34But Magnusver Magnussen's not happy with Pav's lockout.
15:37And he's getting tired.
15:39He's usually such a technician when it comes to this thing.
15:41It's unusual to see him stumble here.
15:44But the focus is on Stoltman.
15:46He manages the second axle.
15:50Has he got time for a log?
15:52Just nine seconds, eight seconds left.
15:54Goodness.
15:54And Pav, this is a disaster for him, really.
15:57He's an Olympic lifter.
15:58Probably the best of all strongmen.
16:00And he just flopped massively there in the safe press.
16:03Well, Stoltman knew he didn't have time.
16:05It wasn't worth it.
16:06Expending the energy.
16:09Kordiaka, only three reps.
16:11Very happy Terminator.
16:13And that's six reps there for Stoltman.
16:17Should be good enough for fourth.
16:22Was six reps disappointing for Luke,
16:25a man who has such a big rep when it comes to pressing,
16:27but only three men made all eight,
16:29with Kieloskowski finishing on top two seconds faster than Foytu.
16:33Hopefully that's brought a smile to the Terminator.
16:37I'm with the winner of the first event.
16:39It's been six years since we've seen you at Giants Live.
16:41First event back and you take the win.
16:44How does that feel?
16:45Oh, I feel amazing.
16:46I'm very happy.
16:48I was thinking that my time was slow because over 60 seconds was a very long time.
16:56And in my training, I did 45, 47, but the equipment here is different.
17:03It's harder, of course, if the hockey is slower, the axle is not in the role.
17:08So it's less comfortable for us.
17:11So anyway, I'm a winner.
17:14So I should be happy.
17:16You should definitely be happy.
17:17First event, first win.
17:18How do you feel about the next events?
17:20Training been going well?
17:21Body feeling okay?
17:23Yeah, hopefully I will go really fast with Shield.
17:26I practice in the same because I made same Shield.
17:29And I hope, I hope also about for a good result.
17:33Well, we're happy to see you smiling.
17:35Good luck with the rest of the competition.
17:37I'm sure we'll be speaking to you later.
17:39So the Shield walk then, 200 kilos, this thing.
17:46If you've ever carried a Llama, think back to that day.
17:50That's very much what it's like.
17:51Heinle managed to carry that metal Llama about 30 meters.
17:57Flynn managed considerably further, 51.04.
18:03After that, the Italian stallion himself, Nicholas Camby,
18:09was head-to-head with Gavin Bilton.
18:12Good men managing that awkward turn.
18:15Camby, well, it was an awkward tumble at around 27 meters.
18:20Bilton gritted it out for 41 meters.
18:24Well, Parr O'Dwyer is up next against Paddy Haynes.
18:27And Parr has some experience here.
18:31Yes, former world record holder.
18:33I'll tell you what, I just have a feeling
18:35Paddy Haynes is going to be magnificent in this.
18:38He's Solomon Britton's strongest man.
18:40Anything that needs any movement at all, he's your man.
18:44Well, that is a great turn from Paddy Haynes,
18:48who's turning on the gas.
18:51I'll tell you what, Paddy Haynes is one of the few people
18:54who can actually lock his arms around the Shield.
18:56No, Dwyer is the other one.
18:58And he goes down at 33 meters.
19:00And Haynes is on his own now.
19:03He's at 60.
19:04He's near Tom Sultman's record.
19:06He's passed it.
19:07Well, that's a world record that Paddy Haynes is just almost literally taking in his stride.
19:14The endurance of this man.
19:16Another turn.
19:1780 meters.
19:18He's happy.
19:21Is that a wee cheeky comment to Pied Wire?
19:23This is now 90 meters or thereabouts.
19:26Wow, look at that.
19:28And every centermite accounted, didn't it?
19:3089.99.
19:33And he wanted to give it a little push at the end.
19:35That is a world record for this man.
19:38Absolutely.
19:39But once those fingers went, that was it.
19:41Let's hear from him now.
19:42He's with Loz.
19:43Paddy Haynes, you absolutely smashed it.
19:4689 meters.
19:47I mean, you looked a little lazy then.
19:48You could have done more.
19:49Well, I don't want to show off all at once, do I?
19:51But I'm buzzing with that.
19:52I really didn't think...
19:53I thought 60 meters would be really good on that.
19:56So surprised myself, to be honest.
19:58It's a perfect event for me, but I really hope it holds up.
20:01There's some good shield carriers here, so...
20:03There is indeed.
20:03First event out of the way.
20:04Not your best event.
20:06That is going to look very, very hard to beat.
20:08Three more events to go.
20:09Do you feel you can claw your way back into this contest?
20:11100%.
20:12You know better than anyone.
20:13I'll fight till the end, to that last whistle.
20:15So I'm here.
20:17Three more good events for me now.
20:19So we're going to do it.
20:21You want to get that spot at Worlds?
20:22I want to get that spot at Worlds.
20:24Good luck, mate.
20:25Well done.
20:25Thank you, guys.
20:26Appreciate it, boss.
20:28On to Schmork-Stellis and Kordiaka.
20:34Oh, Schmork-Stellis, he stood up with an ass,
20:36wondering whether he needs to go or not.
20:38Oh, this is fast from Kordiaka.
20:40Such an athlete.
20:42Yes, he is.
20:45He's rather like Paddy Haynes, in fact.
20:49Tall man, rangey, long arms.
20:51And actually, he can lock his hands around it as well.
20:5423 metres.
20:55Schmork-Stellis goes down just after the first line.
20:58But we're up and past 40 here for the Ukrainian,
21:02who's heading towards 60.
21:03Are we going to see another man pass the all-world record?
21:05Well, he's very careful to cross that line.
21:08He's made that mistake before.
21:11And the shield goes down at 61.84.
21:14Not far off the old world record.
21:18But yes, Kordiaka did make that mistake back in 2023.
21:22Didn't cross the line.
21:24That's right.
21:24Yes, he got penalised heavily for it.
21:27Made absolutely certain there.
21:29And that was a great distance.
21:33So it's the Lukes.
21:35Stoltman and Richardson.
21:38Oh, the Scotsman on the left there was trying to lock his fingers.
21:41He couldn't quite get round.
21:43Richardson has, however.
21:45And that'll be a big advantage here as he charges off into the lead.
21:50Well, I say charges.
21:51Neck and neck at the first line, eh?
21:53In fact, I think Stoltman may have overtaken him.
21:57Is he leaning back too far, Richardson?
21:59With a lot of pressure on his chest, he might not be breathing well enough.
22:03Got to be careful here.
22:04The bicep power of Luke Stoltman, though.
22:07This is impressive, but it's starting to slip.
22:10It is starting to slip.
22:12He does not want to let go, Luke Stoltman.
22:14He's going to have to.
22:17Well, that's 47.49.
22:20Richardson, 56.1.
22:23Really took it out of both men.
22:29I mean, it's a very high standard.
22:30Both men doing a good distance there, but I don't know.
22:33In today's field, it might not be that good.
22:36One pair to go.
22:374-2 against Kieliszkowski.
22:41Well, Kieliszkowski, you have to say, his athleticism could be a threat to Haynes.
22:50Tell you what, he's not just linked one finger.
22:53He's got all of his fingers interconnected there.
22:56Let's just hope he hasn't got them stuck together with Tacky.
22:58If he goes down, goodness me, he is quick.
23:00It's worth all those late nights in the workshop, creating his own shield, wasn't it?
23:08Yes, it was.
23:10Oh, he's starting to slow down now, though.
23:12That pressure on his chest.
23:15He's got to get it down so he can breathe a bit better.
23:17There we go.
23:18As Foyt, who starts to catch, goes down about where Stoltman went down.
23:21Just under 50 meters.
23:23No, no.
23:24Well, he's almost amused at the fact he had to put it down.
23:2856.82 for Kieliszkowski.
23:31You could really see it in his eyes, couldn't you?
23:34The moments where he was just thinking, I'll put this down, actually.
23:37It's pretty heavy.
23:38Well, event two, Paddy Haynes blitzing the field in the shield, finishing 28 meters ahead of Kordiaka and obliterating the world record, one of the performances of the season.
23:52After two events, Kieliszkowski is still in pole position, three points clear of Luke Richardson.
23:57Foyt to his third, with Paddy Haynes moving up to just two points off the podium after that incredible shield run.
24:03There's mixed emotions backstage at the First Direct Arena in Leeds after those first two challenges.
24:11Things are only going to get tougher with Event 3, a grueling carry and drag, next on Europe's Strongest Man.
24:25Welcome back to the First Direct Arena in Leeds and Europe's Strongest Man.
24:30So far, the fired-up crowd here have seen the return of the Terminator and a world record smashed.
24:36What's next? Over to Big Loz.
24:39Event number three is the carry and drag.
24:41Our athletes have to carry 125 kilo anvil all the way down this course and then drag this anchor and chain 20 meters all the way back.
24:51Their legs are already feeling it from event number two.
24:54I expect we might see some athletes fumbling on the pickup and potentially falling as they pull this drag all the way across.
25:03It's going to be important not to make a mistake.
25:05The athletes need to do this as quick as possible before event number four, which is the deadlift, where their legs are going to be even more exhausted.
25:12Who's going to win?
25:13Let's find out.
25:14Yes, it is the carry and drag.
25:18So far, Nicholas Canby, the man to beat, leads with 29.1 seconds.
25:25Carry and drag could be our nickname.
25:27I carry and you.
25:29Anyway, it's O'Dwyer, Bilton and Stoltman next.
25:31Thanks, Danny.
25:37Well, O'Dwyer, my goodness me.
25:39How quick was that?
25:42It says the box flying as well.
25:44Tell you what, though.
25:45Mass calls mass.
25:46Get ready for Big Gab to play catch-up, surely.
25:50Oh, no.
25:51It's Stoltman.
25:52Legs like pistons.
25:54Well, absolutely.
25:55Stoltman bearing down on O'Dwyer.
25:56O'Dwyer.
25:57Oh, my goodness me.
26:01That was, that was very tight from Stoltman at the end.
26:04Yeah, it was when it's all the way over the line, but O'Dwyer got it.
26:07And I have to say, Big Gab, he's not picking enough links off the floor.
26:10There's far too much friction there.
26:14Well, Gavin Bilton manages it in 39.22 seconds.
26:19A little bit of a love-in.
26:21That can happen with the carry and drag.
26:23It's very emotional.
26:25Oh, it brings out a lot of hidden feelings.
26:29It does, you know, it does.
26:32Stoltman, 28 seconds.
26:34Oh, oh.
26:35Something's not right.
26:37Yeah.
26:37Stand back.
26:41Getting shouted at there by Tom, his brother.
26:43World's strongest man.
26:44And he goes for the big dive.
26:46Four backwards.
26:47But no, O'Dwyer definitely got it.
26:49Foytu.
26:50Flynn and Richardson next.
26:51Should be a fast start, you'd think, from Flynn on this.
26:57Yes, Foytu on the far side, though.
26:58Getting the quickest of all.
27:00Richardson on the near side.
27:02Shocks that.
27:03My goodness, we almost rolled into the crowd.
27:05He went mad there.
27:06On to the drag.
27:07And it's neck and neck, really.
27:10Flynn's looking good at the centre.
27:11But it's Richardson.
27:12Closest to camera.
27:14Well, this is fast work from Richardson over the line.
27:19Good result for him.
27:22Well, you think O'Dwyer was 27 seconds.
27:23He was just over 20.
27:25Wow.
27:26May have a slight injury here.
27:28But Luke Richardson, 22 and a half seconds.
27:31And Flynn just behind.
27:3226.89.
27:34And Foytu.
27:35Well, 25.
27:40Tell you what, though.
27:40All of them were quicker than Pardo Dwyer in the last group.
27:43Amazing.
27:44But Richardson.
27:45Wow.
27:46Let's hear from him now.
27:49Luke, 22.58 there on the carrying drag.
27:52That was absolutely blistering.
27:53And, yeah, I kind of knew as I was doing it,
27:56you can tell when you do a fast run.
27:58And when it felt the same as when I started at the end,
28:00I was kind of like, yeah, this is going to be a hard one to beat.
28:02So, hope it stands up.
28:04I think that it's going to be very tough to beat
28:05and it will kind of take something equally as special
28:08to kind of get the job done.
28:10You look like you've really evolved as an athlete.
28:12Just mentally, you're mentally stronger.
28:14You understand that you're a contender in every comp that you do.
28:18And when things don't go perfectly,
28:19you seem to just get on with it now
28:21and just move on to the next event.
28:22But, yeah, I think that's just part of getting older, isn't it?
28:24I'm still a young pup in terms of strongman at 27.
28:27But, obviously, when I came into this game,
28:29I was kind of like 22, 23.
28:31And then, given all the life experience
28:33that I have hopefully learned from now,
28:35which I think I have, you know,
28:37definitely got a wiser head on my shoulders, thankfully.
28:40So, hopefully it sees me through.
28:42I'm expecting some good performances here on out this year.
28:44So, good luck with it.
28:46Still can take this competition.
28:48Doing amazing.
28:48Get yourself ready for the deadlift.
28:49Cheers, Loz.
28:50Thanks very much, mate.
28:52Our final throuple.
28:53Do I mean throuple?
28:55Trios probably better.
28:57Kieliszkowski, Koryaka and Haynes.
28:59Oh, Kieliszkowski had to knee up there in the end
29:05to hang on to that anvil.
29:08Goodness me, Paddy Haynes lobbing it over the line.
29:10It's pretty much neck and neck when they get to this drag.
29:13Kieliszkowski, look at this.
29:16He's going to beat Richardson at this pace.
29:18Well, 22.58 to beat.
29:21That's tight.
29:22He just slowed up.
29:25And followed by Haynes and Koryaka.
29:31Koryaka, 27.1.
29:33Kieliszkowski, 22.58.
29:36That's the dead heat with Richardson, despite his error at the start.
29:42It could have been quicker.
29:44Mateuszkowski, I know you very well.
29:46And you messed up the start with that anvil.
29:48But you managed to compose yourself super fast.
29:51And somehow you ended up exactly the same time as Luke Richardson.
29:56Joint first.
29:57I know you'll be disappointed with the mistake,
29:58but it's still very good points.
29:59Yeah, it was really small mistake.
30:01And small mistake sometimes decides about points.
30:03But I should get more points because I'm older.
30:07He's younger and he should get less.
30:09But anyway, it was very hard event.
30:12At the last few meters, my quam streak was pumped.
30:16Very, very pumped.
30:17Do you think a lot of the athletes will be struggling
30:19with how fast this competition is going?
30:20Already three events were done.
30:22We've still got two more.
30:23It's super fast.
30:24Yeah, it's going too quick for me.
30:27We'll let you go and rest up for all the five minutes.
30:29But get yourself ready for the deadlift and good luck.
30:31I mean, it's crazy.
30:32It's nothing.
30:33I need a few hours.
30:35But I should fight.
30:37Go and get yourself ready, buddy.
30:38Take care.
30:40Breathless stuff.
30:41Event three finishing a dead heat between Mateusz and Luke Richardson.
30:45Andre Foytu continuing his fine evening in third place
30:49and just two-tenths of a second separating Haynes and Flynn in fourth and fifth.
30:54With two events to go then, the Kieloskowski comeback is still on course for the crown.
30:58He's three points clear of Luke with Foytu leading Haynes in the race for the last podium place.
31:04Back to Colin and Danny.
31:05Well, the latest news.
31:08Luke Stoltman has withdrawn from the competition.
31:11He wasn't feeling right.
31:13And backstage.
31:16Into their tightest little suits.
31:18Because it is the axle deadlift next.
31:24That's right.
31:25£770, 350 kilos.
31:2760 seconds.
31:29World record.
31:30Pablo Nakanecini.
31:3111 reps.
31:32If you do five or six, that's brilliant.
31:34And Pao Dwyer leads the way right now with five ahead of Kordiakas.
31:37Four.
31:37So we rejoin the action.
31:42They're head-to-head.
31:43Schmork, Stelis and Heinle.
31:47Great deadlift to Heinle on the right-hand side.
31:50The old Estonian warhorse.
31:54I think you could well win this, actually.
31:57He puts in the kind of performance he normally does.
31:59Very wide stance with his feet.
32:06It's five to beat.
32:07And Heinle is bearing down on that.
32:10Equals it.
32:13Should breeze past that, really.
32:15Schmork, Stelis grinding out the fourth.
32:17Oh, my goodness me.
32:19That will have hurt.
32:21Heinle.
32:23On to number seven now.
32:26If you do double figures.
32:28He hasn't had a great competition so far.
32:30So this would be a real redemption for him
32:32if he were to bang out a massive number.
32:3415 seconds to go.
32:36There might be one or two more.
32:37From the looks of things, I think it might just be the one.
32:41Yeah.
32:44That's that for Heinle.
32:45But eight reps is huge.
32:48Yeah, in 60 seconds.
32:50Very hard to beat, indeed.
32:55Schmork, Stelis.
32:56So he's four.
32:57He'll be pretty happy with that.
32:58He's not the greatest deadlifter in the world.
33:00And that'll get him some good points so far.
33:03My goodness me.
33:03He's in a happy place somewhere, isn't he?
33:07In the zone.
33:08So it's Haynes and Foytou.
33:16And Haynes just continues to surprise.
33:18And he is a world-class deadlifter.
33:22And he gave so much in that shield carry.
33:26You wonder quite how much he's got left in his hamstrings and lower back.
33:30And right now, Foytou's pretty much keeping up with him.
33:33Not really known for his deadlifting, but looking solid so far.
33:39Look at Haynes.
33:40He's up to six.
33:42I know we call Kieliszkowski the terminator, but I'm starting to think we should give that title to Haynes.
33:47He just keeps going.
33:48Here he goes.
33:49Can he equal Heinle's eight?
33:52Yep.
33:5325 seconds to go.
33:55Well, no.
33:58Tell you what, on a different day, he could probably match the world record 11.
34:02And that's very impressive.
34:04Hugely impressive for Paddy Haynes.
34:07Eight there.
34:10This is the fourth event in this competition.
34:13The exhaustion already in his body.
34:15That's so impressive from Paddy Haynes.
34:18He chooses to put it down and stop there with two men to go.
34:21Well, we saw Kieliszkowski there, didn't we?
34:24Keeping a keen eye on what was happening.
34:28Here's up against Luke Richardson.
34:30Who is a former world champion in powerlifting.
34:33And that is something Kieliszkowski really is.
34:35That this was always his weakness in competition.
34:38The deadlift.
34:39Lower back pains.
34:41Whatever it is, it used to hamper him.
34:44If he can get maybe three, maybe four, that'll be good for Kieliszkowski.
34:48Hang on a second.
34:49What's up with Richardson?
34:49He's stopped here.
34:52I expected him to be right up there with Paddy Haynes.
34:55Something's not right.
34:56Maybe his suit's too tight.
35:01Another man making this look particularly easy.
35:04But Richardson manages his fourth rep.
35:07Kieliszkowski.
35:09It's very deliberate, Richardson.
35:11Maybe he's being deliberate about being deliberate.
35:14No, no.
35:15This isn't quite the Richardson we expected here.
35:18Does he lock it out?
35:19No.
35:20The referee's not happy with it.
35:21Finally, I think he gives it.
35:22Yes, he does.
35:23Now, Kieliszkowski.
35:24Do we have time for one?
35:26Nope.
35:27We don't.
35:28I don't think he's realized the time is up.
35:31He does it anyway.
35:33And accepts the loss.
35:36That would have been huge for him as well.
35:39Five reps for Richardson who looks a little bit lost out there.
35:43Lost for the answers as to why he couldn't perform.
35:46Kieliszkowski's pretty happy though.
35:47I think he was begging for that extra rep.
35:51He could have done with it.
35:53I mean, he pulled it, but just not in time.
35:55And as for Luke Richardson,
35:57I think the fuel tank's just on empty.
36:00He's world-class at deadlifting normally,
36:02but he's way behind Paddy Haynes today.
36:05It took him forever to get the fifth up.
36:07Just out of time for Matthias.
36:11Event four belongs to Haynes and Heinle then.
36:13Eight reps apiece.
36:14Yet another good performance by Mr. Consistency Foytu in third spot.
36:19Luke Richardson sharing fourth with Pairo Dwyer.
36:21Kieliszkowski down in joint eighth.
36:23Which means we have a new leader.
36:25Luke, the winner here five years ago,
36:28and another man on the comeback trail,
36:29is now top.
36:31But Foytu, Kieliszkowski and Paddy Haynes
36:33are all within striking range.
36:36I knew he beat Matthias.
36:38He's one point behind me.
36:40Not Hondras.
36:41Hondras by the Paddy.
36:42Paddy's all by two and a half.
36:44Well, it's one of the closest races we've ever seen at this tournament.
36:51Four men separated by just two and a half points.
36:54Who will take the Continental Crown?
36:56The Stones will decide next on Europe's Strongest Man.
37:00Welcome back to Leeds, where after a tremendous day of action at Europe's Strongest Man,
37:11it's incredibly tight in the race for the Continental Crown.
37:15To set us up for the finale,
37:17let's get over to our commentators, Danny Wallace,
37:19and first, Colin Bryce.
37:20And this is how the table is.
37:24Four men, two and a half points between them.
37:27Any of those guys can take the title.
37:29And of course, our top three today will qualify automatically for the World's Strongest Man Finals.
37:35But first, the small matter of the big stones, the Castlestones.
37:39Getting heavier and heavier, up to 200 kilos.
37:43And then, can they lift in 60 seconds?
37:46Well, so far, it's Heinle out in front.
37:49Managed all five stones in 28 and a half seconds.
37:52And we've got Heinle and Kieliszkowski to come.
38:00Yes, normally the penultimate pair is for a battle for third place, but not today.
38:05It's all so tight.
38:06Either of these men could go on and win the title today.
38:10They need to put in a huge performance here.
38:12We know Kieliszkowski can do great stones from the past,
38:15but Paddy Haines is putting pressure on him.
38:18It's so tight onto the fourth.
38:20He really is.
38:21These men, so well matched.
38:25And Paddy Haines looks to have done it.
38:29Oh, it goes in the hole finally.
38:31If he touches it again, it would change the clock.
38:34Another error from Kieliszkowski.
38:37He just tried to throw it, didn't he?
38:39And didn't quite get it on.
38:42And one pair to go.
38:44That certainly has taken the pressure off a little bit from them,
38:47but Haines' time is quick.
38:48Well, Haines is just growing in confidence, isn't he?
38:54Yeah, ramping the crowd up there, trying to up the pressure on the last two.
38:58Massive opportunity for him.
39:00On to Foytu and Richardson.
39:06And it's winner-takes-all here.
39:08These men know that Paddy Haines has put up five stones in 26 seconds.
39:16Ideally, they would beat that time and that would guarantee it.
39:19And that's a very quick time.
39:23Right now, I can't believe it.
39:24Andre Foytu is ahead of Richardson.
39:27Richardson won his first European title in 2020.
39:30Will he make it number two?
39:32Yes, is the answer.
39:37Five stones in 25.96 seconds for Luke Richardson.
39:43Faster than Paddy Haines, he's guaranteed the European title for a second time.
39:48As for Foytu, he's got to get this up.
39:52Or at least beat Kieliszkowski, which he hasn't done.
39:55He's done a slower four.
39:57This could be heartbreak.
39:58I think Kieliszkowski's made it onto the podium.
40:02Well, there's Luke Richardson's fiancée.
40:04His team just so happy for him.
40:07And that's how he did it.
40:10Just as he did in 2020, he popped up the fifth stone the fastest and took the title.
40:18Luke Richardson, today you have put in a masterclass, a strongman.
40:23Thoroughly deserved win against former European champions.
40:27Some of the best athletes in the world.
40:29How does it feel?
40:30Yeah, I think the measure of a man is how he gets back up after he's been kicked.
40:34You know this yourself, Loz.
40:35You've been rather unfortunate in this sport as well.
40:38I've had five surgeries in the last three years.
40:40And every time I've got just close enough that I think the dangling carrot I'm going to get a hold of it,
40:45I get kicked away from it really and back down to the floor.
40:48And I've got to dust myself off and get up.
40:50So this really for me, after everything that I've been through, to be here now winning this comp for a second time,
40:56my second time doing it, you know, it means the world to me.
40:58I've trained so hard.
40:58I've trained so hard.
40:59We've absolutely, you know, in the dark for four years.
41:03No one's known what I was doing.
41:04I've been knackered.
41:05But I'm back now and I'm back for real.
41:08So I don't think we can call you the future anymore.
41:10It's the present, the now.
41:12You've got World's Strongest Man coming up now.
41:15Can Europe's Strongest Man become the World's Strongest Man?
41:18I mean, with Mitch Hooper, I'll be honest, it's going to be a tall order.
41:21But I feel in fantastic shape and in the best shape of my life.
41:24I'll be going to World's Strongest Man with all intentions of getting on the podium.
41:28And I think, you know, I want to be a future winner of that comp.
41:31That's why I've worked myself back.
41:32And that's what I plan to do.
41:33So I'm not going anywhere.
41:35You're showing everyone watching.
41:36If you keep working hard, keep believing and keep coming back.
41:39More importantly than anything, you can achieve great things.
41:41Good luck with the rest of the comp this year.
41:43And good luck with World's Strongest Man.
41:44Cheers, loves. Thanks, mate.
41:47Well, he's a grafter.
41:48And it's paid off.
41:51Luke Richardson, with that time,
41:54takes Event 5.
41:56And more importantly, takes the title.
42:00Final stand-in show.
42:01Paddy Haynes.
42:02Man is second place.
42:03And Kieruskowski overtaking Foyti for third, meaning those three men.
42:08We will see the finals of World's Strongest Man.
42:11But this moment belongs to Luke Richardson.
42:14He's had setback after setback.
42:16But all that hard work has led him here.
42:21The result and the reward.
42:23He is Europe's Strongest Man.
42:26But here's a little something for you, yeah?
42:31Because you're the real winner here.
42:33Please accept this.
42:35Mantage.
