00:00Hello, everybody, and welcome to Sacramento, California,
00:24state capital and venue for this year's World's Strongest Man Finals.
00:29Pretty soon, 25 of the most gargantuan gentlemen anywhere on the globe
00:33are going to be a gathering here in search of glory.
00:36But before they do that, they've got to book their places
00:38via the Giants Live qualifying tour.
00:41It's event one today, Britain's Strongest Man,
00:44the oldest, most prestigious national title in the sport.
00:47Previous winners include Jeff Capes, The Beast and Tom Stoltman,
00:51who's going to be adding their name this time around.
00:54I've seen myself study with that gold in my hand.
01:00I'm thinking of it right now.
01:02I've done it since the leader.
01:04I picture myself against someone else every single time.
01:09If you can't see in your mind, you won't manifest it.
01:11For me, it's when I'm, like, falling asleep on a night.
01:16I can feel my heart rate up.
01:18I'm lifting the stones.
01:19They're calling out my name.
01:20I'm raising a gold trophy.
01:24To have that gold trophy of Britain's Strongest Man,
01:27I see it every time.
01:29It's just that ability to see that you're kind of good enough again.
01:35It's Britain's Strongest Man.
01:40It just vibrates.
01:42There's nobody in Britain that's stronger than you.
01:45There's not a strong man in this country
01:47who doesn't want to be Britain's Strongest Man.
01:49There's so much weight on this title for us, lads.
01:52Everyone here wants to win it.
01:53I certainly want to win it, so that's what I plan to do.
01:56Yeah, I mean, you know, this year I'm the only guy in the field
01:59who knows what it's like to win Britain's Strongest Man.
02:02And, you know, for me, I'm trying to get that third title.
02:05I've really cement myself into British Strongman history.
02:08I think if you're on the podium at Britain's Strongest Man,
02:11you are World's Strongest Man finalist.
02:13And I think the whole world will be watching
02:15and to see what kind of shape we're in.
02:17But I would definitely agree it's wide open.
02:19And could it be my year?
02:21I think it absolutely could be my year.
02:23100% this could be my time.
02:26I really, truly believe that I've got the ability this year
02:29to really kind of showcase my strength
02:31and to win Britain's Strongest Man.
02:34All things considered current form, I think I'm the favourite.
02:37I don't think anyone can take that away from me.
02:39I've beaten everyone in this line last year,
02:40coming back off five surgeries with a few more mums training.
02:44If I don't win this title tomorrow, it's because I've made a mistake.
02:49This is my time.
02:50This is my time.
02:55This is my time.
02:57This is my time.
03:01This is my time.
03:04Again.
03:04As we can see from the lads, time really is of the essence.
03:11We are backstage at the Sheffield Utility Arena.
03:13Moments away from Britain's Strongest Man.
03:1520-25 getting underway.
03:16Delighted to be joined by Eddie Hall.
03:18And Eddie, let's get right into this.
03:19As we saw Adam Bishop looking confident.
03:21Two times Britain's Strongest Man.
03:23Multiple winner.
03:24Is that a factor?
03:26It is a factor.
03:26I mean, Bishop's going to have really high confidence coming into this.
03:29But it also adds a lot of pressure.
03:31Being a previous winner of Britain's Strongest Man, all the eyes are on you.
03:34And, of course, he wants that title going into Will's Strongest Man.
03:37So, it gives you that confidence going into bigger shows.
03:40On paper, he'd be favorite from an experience level.
03:43A lot of the Strongman community talking about Luke Richardson.
03:46Would he be under pressure having that almost target on his back?
03:49I think Luke's probably my favorite for this show.
03:51And that's just because you can see what he's done in previous shows.
03:55What he's doing in training.
03:57He is the youth of the sport right now.
03:59He's the young gun coming up.
04:00And, you know, he's won Europe's Strongest Man in the past.
04:03So, you know, he can win this show.
04:04It's evidently there.
04:06He's got a bit of a demon on his shoulder.
04:08You know, he's had some bad injuries.
04:10Really bad injuries.
04:10Which required surgery to get things reattached.
04:13And that's going to be lingering in your head.
04:15So, he might...
04:16You know, stuff like that for me.
04:17It's going to hold you back that little bit.
04:19Just giving that 100%.
04:20And that's something that takes years to get over.
04:23We cannot wait for this one.
04:25We've mentioned a few of the athletes.
04:26Let's meet all of them.
04:29Well, let's meet them right now, in fact.
04:31Colin, this is my time.
04:34First up.
04:35It is the reigning Wales' Strongest Man.
04:38They call him Bam Bam.
04:41It's Matt Diamond.
04:42From Alloa in Scotland.
04:44Making his Britain's Strongest Man debut.
04:47Chris Beetham.
04:49They call him Beetham.
04:50Not to his face.
04:52Andrew Flynn.
04:53The Flying Flynn.
04:55Just a steam train of a man.
04:57Came second.
04:57The England's Strongest Man last season.
05:02Two-time Ireland's Strongest Man.
05:05Holds the Irish Log Press record.
05:07A brilliant deadlift through it.
05:09Sean Gillen.
05:09Ben Shain.
05:14Flower power.
05:15Flowers.
05:16He's placed fourth twice before.
05:18A fan favourite.
05:20Made his debut here last year.
05:22This guy.
05:22Former long-distance runner.
05:24Enjoys the odd double marathon.
05:26Paddy Haynes.
05:27And they call him Big Bad Ben.
05:32One of the fastest improving Strongmen in England right now.
05:36First Britain's Strongest Man appearance tonight.
05:38Ben Glasscock.
05:40Two-time Scotland's Strongest Man.
05:43Known as the Bulldozer Andy Black.
05:46Also from Scotland.
05:50The Highland Oak himself.
05:52Two-time Europe's Strongest Man.
05:53Luke Stoltman.
05:58And look who's back.
06:00Bilton's back.
06:01Six foot six.
06:03Over 27 stone.
06:05Came so close last year.
06:06Wants it this year.
06:10And this man.
06:11Comes in off the back of two consecutive podium finishes last year.
06:142020 Europe's Strongest Man.
06:17Luke Richardson.
06:19And what would Britain's Strongest Man be without this guy Adam Bisher?
06:24It is Bish.
06:25Two-time Britain's Strongest Man champion.
06:27This very much his comeback.
06:29He ruptured his Achilles at World's Strongest Man last year.
06:33And these are your Strongmen.
06:37Curated.
06:38Hand-selected.
06:39No returns I'm afraid.
06:42Welcome to the Steve for Chase medley.
06:44And this one is a big one.
06:46The objective is simple.
06:48Walk down this 15-metre course.
06:50And take a 150-kilogram sandbag.
06:53And place it on the plink at the end there.
06:55Navigating your way over the steeple.
06:57That, by the way, is the first of the timing markers.
07:00But you don't just have to do it once.
07:02You have to do it three times.
07:05Three of these colossal bags.
07:07This is going to be a lull buster.
07:09This is going to be a lactic inducer.
07:11And this is going to be very close indeed.
07:14Well, he doesn't make it sound fun, does he, old Radzie?
07:19Well, it isn't.
07:20It's meant to be hard.
07:21This is Britain's Strongest Man, Danny.
07:23Well, our first three men.
07:26Diamond, Black, Glasscock.
07:29They were first up.
07:31Good stuff from Glasscock.
07:33Managed all six in under a minute.
07:37And a very fit man.
07:38That shows you how hard it is.
07:39Diamond, I'm afraid, did five in the six in 48.
07:43And Big Andy, five in one minute and ten.
07:46And he was out of puff.
07:47And all our competitors know how important it is to place today.
07:52If they're in the top three at the end,
07:54they will qualify for World's Strongest Man.
07:58Which would be great for Chris Beefy Beetham.
08:02That's his actual nickname.
08:03I didn't just invent that.
08:05And from Banbury, Paddy Haynes.
08:08Third of England's Strongest Man.
08:13He's very fast, Paddy Haynes.
08:14Very athletic as well, as he's desperate to show.
08:17And Sean Gillen, two-time Ireland's Strongest Man.
08:25Big man, Sean.
08:26This is going to be hard for him.
08:28He's just carrying that extra bulk at 160-odd kilos,
08:32350 pounds in weight.
08:34On his Paddy Haynes, he's lean and mean.
08:37I expect him to do a really good time here.
08:40Very long-armed, good deadlifter as well.
08:42Yeah, he's in the lead at the moment.
08:44No problem at all.
08:46Gillen doing well as well, though.
08:47Well, look at the speed that Paddy Haynes is bringing to the table.
08:51Really means business.
08:53Wants to launch this as far as he can.
08:57Yeah, it's a good trick, isn't it?
08:58The further you get it down the course, the better.
08:59It doesn't go that far, though, let's be honest.
09:03Now, then, Paddy Haynes back for his last one.
09:05Gillen still holding second.
09:07The Scotsman on the far side struggling a bit here as he goes for his fourth.
09:11Well, if Haynes was showing any signs of tiring, he's making up for it.
09:20On it goes.
09:22Yes.
09:22And that's a fast time.
09:26Faster so far.
09:2747 seconds.
09:28That's going to be really hard to beat.
09:31Gillen's just the big brown bear's got on his back.
09:34He's in trouble.
09:34I'm not sure how easy this is to pick up once you put it down.
09:42This could be Beetham's opportunity, though.
09:44Five seconds.
09:45No, not likely, actually.
09:48Well, both men, it seems.
09:50Beetham on the fifth.
09:53Five in one minute three.
09:58Five in a faster time for Gillen.
10:00You know, I don't think there's a harder event you can start with.
10:02Unless you're someone like Paddy, who finished it in a good time.
10:06And he's with Bradsey now.
10:10Paddy, if there was any question about how athletic you are,
10:14you put comprehensively any doubt out of the window.
10:17That was superb.
10:19Yeah.
10:20This is my bread and butter in this sport.
10:22I'm really happy.
10:23There are definitely guys that can beat it.
10:24But hopefully that time holds up.
10:27From a conditioning level, how tough is it,
10:29with the lactic course into your body, not to make any errors?
10:32I mean, I've run a lot of marathons in my time.
10:36This is harder.
10:37Good luck, mate.
10:38We can't wait to see you.
10:38Thank you, buddy.
10:39Thanks, guys.
10:42The chase is on.
10:44Haynes, the early leader,
10:45becoming up more big people doing steeple
10:47as Paddy's rivals take their shot at that top spot,
10:51including two-time Britain's strongest man,
10:54Adam Bishop.
10:55Welcome back to Britain's strongest man in Sheffield.
11:08Back to the action now with Colin Bryson, Danny Wallace.
11:10Well, thank you, James.
11:13And yes, it is the turn of Andrew Flying Flynn
11:17against the Englishman Shane Flowers.
11:25And completing this line-up in spectacular fashion,
11:29as always, Big Gavin Bilton.
11:32It's always good to see Bilton, isn't it?
11:38Yes, it is, though.
11:40Really, the kind of event you'd think Gab would do particularly well at,
11:43unless he's in tremendous shape.
11:45It's not a huge man's event.
11:47You expect someone like Flowers there in the middle.
11:49Yes, he's doing very well.
11:50And Flynn on the left-hand side,
11:51but right out Big Gab in the lead by a fraction.
11:55Yes, pretty much neck and neck and giant neck.
11:58But the two lighter men,
12:03making lighter work a bit.
12:0520, 26-inch neck for Big Gab.
12:08And his Flowers now, yeah.
12:10He made up a lot of time in the sprint back.
12:12Gab lost a lot of time there.
12:14He's starting to slow down a little bit.
12:18I don't think any of these guys are going to beat Paddy Haynes.
12:20He did 47-70.
12:22That's what they're chasing.
12:23He couldn't nip into second, couldn't he, Flowers?
12:30Gab just looks like he's had enough.
12:32That's a huge breath of air.
12:34Now then, Flowers to finish.
12:37That's tight.
12:38No.
12:40Got to get both hands off.
12:41Well, that's all six in.
12:4259.9.
12:44Andy Flynn.
12:44Oh, good Gab sneak in.
12:46He does.
12:46Wow.
12:47That's a nice sportsmanship there from Flowers.
12:53Really encouraging Flynn for that literal final push.
12:58Do you see his legs there?
12:59Big Gab.
13:00Six in one minute and six.
13:01Good effort from Gab.
13:02There's the look of a wounded puppy there.
13:06Oh, wow.
13:07Great stuff from Flowers.
13:09Not as good as we saw from Paddy Haynes.
13:11Slow and steady from Big Gab.
13:14Now this is to beat Flynn.
13:17There's the puppy look.
13:21On to Luke Richardson then.
13:25He's impressed in the past.
13:28Big weight of expectation on his shoulders though.
13:33As there always is with this guy as well.
13:36Luke Stoltman.
13:38Another Europe's strongest man with that.
13:39And Adam Bishop.
13:44He's back.
13:46Fighting strong.
13:48Yes, that Achilles.
13:50Horrible snap.
13:51He suffered at World's Strongest Man.
13:52It was a horrifying moment, wasn't it?
13:57He's been plagued by injuries in the past.
14:00He was leading his group in World's Strongest Man and then he felt something go and then tried to pick it up again and that was it.
14:07A full rupture of the Achilles tendon.
14:10And it wasn't just a matter of out of the contest.
14:13He couldn't walk.
14:15And he had some months of rehabilitation.
14:17It's been really tough for Adam to get back to this position.
14:21To be honest, I'm amazed he's back this early.
14:25That was a big blow for him.
14:27He's had quite a few major injuries.
14:29So it's great to see him back.
14:30But a brutal event to start on.
14:37Yeah, luckily not too high impact though.
14:40It's more just a constant pain here and more for the lungs than anything.
14:44Bishop starts a little slow but he's against two Europe's strongest man with us who have yet to win a British title.
14:50I like how you said this wasn't a hard event apart from the constant pain.
14:57Stoltman.
14:58He's 40 now.
15:00Putting anyone in their 40s to shame.
15:03He's in fantastic shape.
15:06I guess he's got a good training partner and wee brother.
15:08Who's not here of course.
15:10No Tom Stoltman.
15:12He is the reigning three times Britain's strongest man.
15:15But this is in many ways Luke's opportunity.
15:18Which Luke isn't there.
15:19Richardson on the far side looking really good.
15:22His legs starting to wobble there though.
15:24And I think Stoltman might get the quick go.
15:26No he doesn't.
15:27Richardson again.
15:27Well there's a wobble there from Richardson.
15:33Stoltman takes full advantage.
15:35Six in 55.
15:36Richardson taking a tumble.
15:39Goodness me.
15:41He's hit the wall.
15:42He's just a couple of yards away.
15:46Come on Luke.
15:47You can finish this one off.
15:48Adam Bishop struggling as well.
15:51Well he's out of time.
15:53Oh no.
15:54One minute 15.
15:56The whistle goes.
15:57Magnus for Magnuson.
15:58The head ref.
15:59That I'm afraid is not good enough.
16:02Just five for Richardson.
16:03Well five also for Adam Bishop.
16:0651.05.
16:09Yeah Richardson.
16:10A lot of energy he wasted there.
16:12Yeah you think about it.
16:1375 seconds of incredible hard work.
16:16He's in lactate hell there.
16:19Is that the word for it?
16:19Lactate.
16:21That's in lactic acid.
16:22Can't milk a strong man.
16:25At least no one's tried.
16:27Well Richardson.
16:28Came so close there.
16:30But not close enough.
16:32Indeed.
16:33Paddy Haynes taking event one.
16:34And by a massive margin.
16:36Almost eight seconds faster than the rest.
16:38Luke Stoltman second.
16:40While Adam Bishop's off to a disappointing start.
16:42The two time champ.
16:43Down in ninth.
16:44Others though.
16:45Had it even tougher.
16:46With Andy Black withdrawing now from the event.
16:49Luke Richardson was in trouble too.
16:51All right Saren's up too.
16:52No it's great.
16:53What are you having to help?
16:54I just feel bad man.
16:55My head's pounding.
16:58Okay.
17:00Luke.
17:01Eddie Hall's favorite for this year's title.
17:02Instead heading off to get himself checked out.
17:06Our best wishes for the future.
17:11The sandbag steeplechase then claiming two victims.
17:15For the remaining men.
17:16The tension builds now as we head back to the arena.
17:19For event two.
17:19The deadlift ladder.
17:21Here's Colin and Danny.
17:21Well dramatic scenes here at Britain's Strongest Man.
17:25We're only one event in.
17:28The deadlift ladder is next.
17:30Yes and they have to tackle these five bars.
17:33Rising from 300 to 380 kilos.
17:36And results so far.
17:37Only Shane Flowers has done all five.
17:40In 39.59 seconds.
17:42That puts his toys down nicely.
17:47So we move on to Adam Bishop and Sean Gillen.
17:50This is pretty much England's best deadlifter against Ireland's best deadlifter.
17:55And the pressure really on Bishop now after not the best of successes in event one.
18:02Synchronized deadlifting so far.
18:03That was quite something.
18:06Oh.
18:06Bishop's just gone ahead.
18:09Now there are loud straps.
18:11And how much you use them is half the battle here.
18:14That's really the tactics.
18:15Bishop now starting to wrap it more so he can hang on to it.
18:18And look how much easier it is to pull even though it gets heavier.
18:21Well now Bishop.
18:22On to the fifth and final one.
18:24Manages it.
18:2530 seconds.
18:26That's great from Adam Bishop.
18:29Unbelievable.
18:30I mean Gillen's quick.
18:31He's going to be almost as quick as Flowers.
18:33He did 39.59.
18:35That's come and gone.
18:36He gets those straps on.
18:38This should be no problem for Sean.
18:43Probably not that easy.
18:44But he got it.
18:46Managed all five.
18:4849.13 seconds.
18:51This was fast from Adam Bishop.
18:54And he needed that.
18:55Yes he did.
18:59I could have done a sixth one he says.
19:01I don't know what I can pull.
19:05Terry Hollands there.
19:06His training partner of old.
19:09Andy Flynn against Big Gab.
19:11Built at all.
19:12Steady Gab.
19:16Down Sadler gets them underweight.
19:18Andy Flynn closest to camera.
19:20He's a good deadlifter.
19:21Not using the straps either Danny.
19:24Neither is Big Gab yet.
19:28Oh that's a surprise.
19:29Number three.
19:30That's an impressive grip from Andy Flynn.
19:33But so too from Gab.
19:36Well.
19:37On to the fourth bar.
19:38Taking a little more time now.
19:40Andy Flynn.
19:43360 kilograms.
19:49Refusal at the first for Andy Flynn.
19:52And Big Gab moves on to number five.
19:54Slow and steady as he was with the sacks.
19:56And Andy Flynn I think calls it a day at three quick ones.
20:07Double Bishop's time as Bilton.
20:09Oh goodness me.
20:16Well that belt was so tight there.
20:18You've seen Big Gab faint before.
20:21He's up on his feet.
20:24He's all right.
20:25Four and 38 seconds.
20:26Wow.
20:27This was the moment.
20:29He is absolutely fine.
20:31A certain ballet quality to his feints.
20:34He even feints well Colin.
20:37With style.
20:37Big Gab.
20:39On to Luke Stoltman and Paddy Haynes.
20:41You're not really a strong man unless you've fainted at some point in your career.
20:49Be it training or competition.
20:51Now then.
20:52Paddy Haynes.
20:52He is just a phenom of deadlifting.
20:55There might not be anybody who is thick in the body of someone like Big Gab.
21:01But those long arms and incredibly strong back.
21:05That farmer background.
21:06Number four for Paddy.
21:07And Stoltman.
21:08He's been left in his trail at the moment.
21:11This is a very determined performance.
21:14From Paddy Haynes.
21:16He's not going to meet Bishop.
21:18He wants to do this properly.
21:23Yes.
21:23A solid second place maybe.
21:26No.
21:26I think he's going to be slower than Flowers.
21:28But he does it all the same.
21:31Well that was a strong performance from Paddy Haynes.
21:34In every respect.
21:37Luke Stoltman might be beaten.
21:41Deadlift's never been his forte.
21:43Stoltman.
21:44But he did a very quick four.
21:454-29.
21:48All of which means.
21:49That this man Adam Bishop.
21:51Takes the win.
21:53But what a performance from Paddy Haynes as well.
21:56That's the look of triumph.
21:59Or pain.
22:00I'm not sure.
22:03Well that's big for Bish.
22:05Adam eclipsing the rest by a full nine seconds.
22:08Flowers, Haynes and Gillen.
22:10The only other athletes to complete all five lifts.
22:13Bilton despite his tumble.
22:14Claiming sixth.
22:15And he's with Radity.
22:16Big Gav.
22:17Good to see you still standing.
22:18There's no question of you coming out of this competition.
22:20No definitely not.
22:21I take a lot more than that to stop me.
22:22It was just a bit of a rush of blood to the head.
22:25Belt was a bit loose.
22:26So obviously I moved to the 380.
22:27I tightened the belt up.
22:29And obviously as I stood up and did it, it was like a rush of blood.
22:31It just, I can't remember falling over.
22:33I'm all good.
22:34I've been through worse.
22:36Still within a shot at that podium.
22:38With two lads out, there's less points up for grabs.
22:41But it makes it more interesting for the guys at the top.
22:43So I'm just going to go out, do my thing.
22:45Smash the log press.
22:46Smash stones.
22:47Get on that podium.
22:48Get to the world.
22:48The race for the British title and those World's Strongest Man qualifying spots is heating up.
22:54Haynes in top spot for now with Flowers and Stoltman close behind.
22:58And Bishop moving up to joint fourth.
23:02Something foul awaits for Luke, Gavin and the rest.
23:05Event 3 is the Duck Walk.
23:07Who will be the first to quack?
23:09We'll find out next on Britain's Strongest Man.
23:11Welcome back.
23:19We've not been short on drama so far in Sheffield with athletes pushed beyond their limits.
23:24The good news is both Andy Black and Luke Richardson are on the road to recovery.
23:29For the remaining men, the challenges aren't going to get any easier as we head into Event 3.
23:34What lies ahead?
23:35Here's Radzi with five-time British champion Hedy Hall.
23:38Event number three, Duck Walk into Farmers and Eddie kicking off with about 200 kilograms.
23:44It's a big one.
23:45This was actually stemmed from Olympic powerlifting.
23:48So they used to do this to really strengthen the glutes, the back and the grip strength.
23:51So it's designed to fatigue you, to make you stronger.
23:55So doing this for 20 meters is a big, big ask.
23:58And then it goes into the Farmers.
24:00In terms of the transition, that could really separate the top from the guys underneath.
24:05Oh yeah, I mean, 160 kilo each hand, that's me.
24:09So they're picking up me in each hand and running another 20 meters back.
24:14So yeah, it's a big ask.
24:15There's knowing where to pick the apparatus up and how fast to go.
24:20You go too fast, you trip up.
24:21So it's a lot of experience comes into this.
24:23The margins, once again, are tiny on this one.
24:26Don't move a muscle.
24:27I don't know where Eddie got his mic from.
24:30I think he brought it off ABBA.
24:32So first up, it was Glasscock, Diamond.
24:35Glasscock managing 31.78 on this event.
24:39On to Beetham and Flynn.
24:42And if you think strongmen can't be funny, watch this.
24:45Yes, the duck walk, one of the most ridiculous boobers there is in the Strongman Arsenal.
24:54And my goodness, Andy Flynn is quick.
24:57440 pounds is exchanged for 320 kilos.
25:01And he is flying.
25:03The flying Flynn.
25:06Well, this is very fast from Flynn.
25:08Down they go, 23 seconds.
25:11There or thereabouts, 22.81 for Andrew Flynn.
25:13That certainly takes the lead.
25:16Chris Beetham there.
25:17No, his hands struggling.
25:19Once they go, they go.
25:2025 meters for him.
25:24Flying Flynn, goodness me.
25:27I think his grip was starting to go near the end.
25:29But yeah, so quick.
25:32It's going to be really hard to beat.
25:34On to Big Gav and Luke Stoltman.
25:38Real test of giants here.
25:40And again, if you've ever been intimidated by either of these men,
25:43just remember them doing this.
25:47Two less intimidating men you can find.
25:49Gentle giants of the highest order.
25:52Now then, Luke Stoltman.
25:54Looking really good there.
25:56Under the farmer's walk.
25:59The problem with really, really big men is often they have their thick hands.
26:03They struggle just to hang on to things for long.
26:05You see his grip starting to go.
26:06Look at his fingers opening up.
26:07He's just going to make it.
26:09He just had to keep that pace up.
26:1124.38 for Luke.
26:14What's Big Gav going to give us?
26:16Around 32 seconds.
26:1931.78 for Big Gav, Bilton.
26:22Getting that encouragement as well, wasn't he, from Stoltman?
26:26Stoltman worried.
26:27Bilton didn't know what to do.
26:29Here, put it down there.
26:31Well done.
26:34We'll get you, you know.
26:36On to Sean Gillen and Paddy Haynes.
26:39Something tells me Paddy Haynes is going to be quick at this.
26:47Gillen looking very solid as well, but those long legs of Paddy's is trying to round up.
26:53Now, how's the grip?
26:54Well, you know it's brilliant.
26:56He's got one of the best grips in the world.
26:58So he should hang on to these.
27:00Oh, if it doesn't take his legs out.
27:02Well, as Whitey Hall was saying, he's got the grip a little wrong.
27:04He's holding it too far up the front.
27:06And maybe that's just causing it to knock around.
27:10Oh, it goes down again.
27:11So hard to get it back once you let it drop.
27:14But 29.42, still a fast time for Paddy Haynes.
27:18Gillen beaten.
27:21He's lost a bit of skin there, I think.
27:25Paddy Haynes, though.
27:27He looked so good at the start, but it started to go and tap at the back.
27:30And then it swung forward, even hit the ground there.
27:34Oh, my goodness.
27:36Twice he had to pick it up.
27:41All England then, the final pair.
27:42Shane Flowers and Adam Bishop.
27:49It's the top two for the deadlift.
27:52Bishop would be really quick there, but here you go.
27:54Shane Flowers catching him on the line.
27:56And it's even Stevens onto the farmers.
27:58Who's going to get the quickest pick-up?
28:00He really is neck and neck here, isn't it, with these two?
28:04Oh, my goodness me.
28:05It couldn't be any closer.
28:07There's your money on Danny.
28:09Adam Bishop there.
28:11Well, there it is.
28:12Adam Bishop just pips him.
28:1424 and a half seconds.
28:17So hard to tell who was going to triumph there.
28:24Bish was just a little bit quicker.
28:26They're going to put Flowers under pressure.
28:29Stumbles, goes down, and Bish grabs his moment.
28:32It's just the front that has to cross the line.
28:34And Flowers went down again just before it.
28:36It's that look of frustration from Flowers.
28:42Andy Flynn for the win.
28:44Behind him, Luke takes second from Adam by two-tenths of a second.
28:48And Flowers and Haynes also hitting sub-32nd times.
28:51It's enough to keep Haynes joint top of the standings for now.
28:55Paddy, three events down.
28:56We are looking pretty good.
28:58We've seen half a smile so far.
29:00How are you feeling?
29:01Just keeping calm, Radzi.
29:02I'm keeping calm.
29:03I'm doing all right.
29:04I'm very happy.
29:05It's nice to be sharing the lead with a Stoltman.
29:07It's not a bad thing, is it?
29:09Like I say, I've probably got my one sort of worst event now.
29:13So for me, it's just clutching as many points from this as I can.
29:15And then I like the Stones.
29:18And are your arms longer after that, Farmers?
29:20Because you grit and bared that one.
29:22I hope not, because they're already pretty long.
29:24But it'll be better for the Stones.
29:25I'll get round them.
29:26And just a word.
29:28How cool is it to be competing at a Giants,
29:30have a Britain's strongest man, and to be in the mix?
29:33Oh, it's ridiculous.
29:33I'll wake up in a minute.
29:35Probably after log.
29:36But we'll see.
29:37Yeah, I'll just be on blessed.
29:38It's just amazing.
29:39And hopefully, let's get some people talking about me now.
29:42Mate, two events to go.
29:43Good luck.
29:44Thanks, Fitz.
29:44Well, might Luke Stoltman be Paddy's wake-up call?
29:49The Scotsman is now tied with Haynes atop the standings, with Shane Flowers just one point further back.
29:56Adam Bish have been fourth, also looking well within striking range.
29:59However, backstage, there's bad news for Bish.
30:02Things have taken a turn for the two-time champion, making his return to the sport after that major injury last year.
30:11Ratsy is catching up with Bish.
30:15Bish, the reason I'm stood here is just because, obviously, I've known you when you first started in Strongman,
30:21and we're obviously now two times Britain's strongest man.
30:23This isn't the ideal conversation we want to be having, but you're making the decision rightfully that you're going to pull out.
30:29I'm just done, Rats.
30:32I've had a bit of a mental wobble.
30:34I should be, you know, chomping at the bit to compete, and I don't want to go out there.
30:38So I don't know what's wrong.
30:40I can't get my head around it because, you know, I'm in contention, and I just don't want to do it.
30:45And I don't know why that's happened to me, but the last thing I need to do is go out there, force things, and hurt myself.
30:54Can I just say, on a personal level, I mean, we obviously know how strong you guys are,
30:59but to have the courage to speak vulnerably and speak as you are says everything about you as a man.
31:05Thanks, mate.
31:06I appreciate that.
31:09We've, like, mental issues.
31:12I've always struggled with them, as in I struggle to understand them.
31:14I didn't understand why people would have them, and so this is all very new for me.
31:18I don't get it.
31:19And I don't know, I just, all I know is I just don't want to go out there for the log press, and it's, or the stones.
31:27And it's, as I said, it's mind-boggling for me because I'm in a good position,
31:30and every single other time I've competed, I've been chomping at the bit to get out there,
31:33and I think it's the smartest thing just to, you know, step down and sort things out and work out why this has happened.
31:41Adam, really appreciate your time, mate. Best of luck.
31:46Remarkable. Remarkable honesty there.
31:49And as Radzi said, vulnerability from Adam Bishop, Colin.
31:53Well, 160 kilos to be pressed overhead is, it's a dangerous thing.
31:56We make light of it often.
31:59Chris Beetham, the first man to come out, does one rep, and you see just how difficult it is.
32:03Finest in Britain.
32:05Three reps from Gillen.
32:07The Irishman.
32:08Chainflowers.
32:09The world's best pressers.
32:11Two reps.
32:12I mean, this is a serious thing to have to go out and do, and, well, perhaps that's exactly why Adam Bishop didn't fancy it.
32:21I'm afraid Paddy Haynes, zeros, as Ben Glasgow and Gab Bilton are our next pair out.
32:27Now, Bilton gets the measure of the log.
32:35It's three to beat.
32:36Ascock gets the first one up, so too Bilton.
32:43Good opportunity for these guys to try and put some daylight between themselves and Paddy Haynes.
32:49And we saw zero.
32:50One thing we do know is Luke Stoltman is a great presser.
32:55Still got to see him.
32:58Both on two reps at the moment.
33:01We are halfway through the time already.
33:05Bilton rolling out the chest.
33:07Glascott getting his third.
33:08So too Bilton.
33:11The other man gets a fourth.
33:12They'll be in the lead.
33:16This is a huge weight.
33:18350 pounds, 160 kilos.
33:20For a British Championships.
33:22A massive test.
33:24Well, Glascott, he checked he had time to do it.
33:27He knew he did.
33:29Has Bilton got time for one more?
33:31No.
33:32Well, this is extraordinary.
33:34Gavin Bilton manages the three reps.
33:37But this guy, Ben Glasgow, manages four.
33:42He's quite something, isn't he, Ben?
33:44And he's quietly making a charge towards the podium.
33:50He knows he did well.
33:54Yeah, baby, I think he said.
33:57And the final pair, Luke Stoltman and Andrew Flynn.
34:00Here we go.
34:03Stoltman on the left.
34:04Flynn on the right.
34:06Scotland gets it up first.
34:11Flynn really takes his time on his chest.
34:13And look at that.
34:14That's a great technique from Flynn.
34:16What he lacks in power.
34:18Stoltman has plenty of shoulder power.
34:20But Flynn, watch his technique on the right.
34:22He has to use all of his legs to get it up.
34:25He really does.
34:28Real athleticism there from Flynn.
34:30Stoltman.
34:31That pure power.
34:33The shooter power.
34:35Well, with this fifth rep,
34:38he manages it.
34:42That's important for Stoltman, isn't it?
34:44Absolutely.
34:45Has he taken the lead?
34:46But he's putting some massive daylight between him and Paddy Haynes,
34:49who's zeroed.
34:51One event to go.
34:5440-year-old Luke Stoltman.
34:55He knows it.
34:57He's in a great position now to win Britain's strongest man.
35:00Now, what can Flynn do with two seconds?
35:03He got it.
35:04Wow, that's impressive from Flynn.
35:07Nerves of steel.
35:09Shades off.
35:10Shoulders of steel as well.
35:11Yeah.
35:12I think it was pretty much all leg-mined.
35:14I mean, he caught it, though.
35:16Caught it with just a second to go.
35:18That was tremendous from Flynn.
35:25See him again.
35:26As he catches it, he catches it almost in a bench-press position
35:28to maximise the drop-down.
35:31Really impressive.
35:32Well done to Andrew Flynn,
35:35who ties Ben Glasscock for second with four reps.
35:38But that one extra rep for Luke Stoltman could be huge.
35:41The Scotsman, with his massive shoulders,
35:43taking the event win and moving into the lead out right now
35:46at Britain's strongest man.
35:48Luke there, six and a half points ahead of Shane Flowers.
35:51Andrew Flynn currently holding third,
35:53but only by half a point.
35:54Here's Radzi with the man on top.
35:56We have a new leader, Luke Stoltman.
36:03Looking good, mate.
36:04Yeah, really good.
36:06Yeah, proud of myself.
36:07Didn't get too excited in the log.
36:08Just did what I had to do.
36:10I knew Andrew's a good presser.
36:11I just needed one more, that's all.
36:14So, rather than go all out,
36:17I just kind of took it nice and easy and got it done.
36:20So, enough for the win.
36:21One more to go and we'll get it done.
36:23One more good luck.
36:24I thank you very much.
36:25Appreciate it.
36:25Cheers, guys.
36:26Well, there's a dramatic finish in store then here in Sheffield
36:30where we're guaranteed a first-time winner for this prestigious title
36:34and a real battle for the podium.
36:37Shane, Luke, Andy or Ben, who's set for glory?
36:42Find out next on Britain's Strongest Man.
36:50Welcome back to Sheffield.
36:52It's Britain's Strongest Man in the Utilitar Arena
36:55where a sell-out Steel City crowd is about to witness the final act.
37:00Without any further ado, let's get back to our commentators,
37:03Colin Bryce and Danny Wallace.
37:06Well, going into the final event,
37:08here's how things stand.
37:10Flynn in third, Shane Flowers in second.
37:13Pulling ahead, Luke Stoltman in first.
37:17That's only so far, I remember.
37:19Whoever ends up in the top three,
37:20well, they qualify for World's Strongest Man.
37:23And it's this event that will decide our top three,
37:26the Castle Stones.
37:27Yes, 120 kilos going up to 200 kilograms.
37:31And this is what's happened so far.
37:32Paddy Haynes, the man who was in joint lead going into the log,
37:36pulled out a huge result in the Stones.
37:3725 seconds for five.
37:39Bilton also did five.
37:42Two pairs to go.
37:44First, it's Ben Glasscock and Andrew Flynn, relative newbies.
37:48And this really is the battle of the third place.
37:50Just half a point separates these guys.
37:52Massive moment for both of them in their Strongman career.
37:56Who can get on the podium of Britain's Strongest Man?
37:58And it's Flynn on the right-hand side.
38:00Andy Flynn, who's taking the lead.
38:02Well, this is very fast from Andrew Flynn
38:06as he moves on to the fourth.
38:09Each one getting heavier and heavier.
38:11We're up to the 200 kilo.
38:12Big daddy for Andy Flynn on the right-hand side.
38:14Look at the size of it.
38:16If he does this, we'll see him at World's Strongest.
38:19And he might as well book his ticket now.
38:21Five Stones, 28 and a half seconds.
38:24That's huge for Andrew Flynn.
38:26Quicker than Gav Bilton.
38:28Just a little slower than what Paddy Haynes managed.
38:31But yes, he's on the podium.
38:33Let's see what Ben Glasscock can do.
38:35He'll want to get this fourth up at least.
38:37Well, Flynn helped him out there.
38:39Lends him some of the tacky from his hands.
38:41That pine resin that helps grip these...
38:46Almost impossible to grip things.
38:48Oh!
38:49And he does it.
38:50I can't believe he did it.
38:52Well, Andy Flynn giving him that little bit of tacky there.
38:55What a bit of sportsmanship from Flynn as well.
38:57Glasscock gets all five up.
38:59Just...
39:00That was just a tremendous run from Andy Flynn.
39:10Not only did he get all five up,
39:11but he proves what a good chap he is.
39:14The final pair then.
39:15Shane Flowers, Luke Stoltman.
39:21Big moment for Shane Flowers.
39:23It's not lost on him.
39:24He can see just how nervous he is.
39:27But he'll have to pull out a ridiculous time here.
39:29And, well, Stoltman would have to do really badly.
39:32And he's a great stone lifter, the Scotsman.
39:34And he's showing it.
39:35He's an old hand at this, Stoltman.
39:38But Flowers...
39:39Matching him.
39:42He is.
39:42Yes, he is.
39:43Maybe even catching him there.
39:45Who's going to get the fifth one up first?
39:48Oh!
39:48Oh, that's incredible.
39:50What a result for Shane Flowers.
39:53Stoltman's slightly stunned.
39:54He stole my glory moment, he's thinking.
39:57But he is Britain's strongest man.
39:59He certainly is.
40:00But Flowers really treating this like he's won the whole competition.
40:04How huge it must be to go up against Luke Stoltman on the stones and do so well.
40:09Massive moment for him.
40:11Even bigger moment for this man, though.
40:13At 40 years old.
40:14All those thousands of hours of training.
40:17Gets the fifth one up.
40:19It was a battle.
40:20But he is Britain's strongest man.
40:22And he's with Ratsy now.
40:25Luke Stoltman.
40:272020.
40:28You make the Britain's strongest man podium.
40:30Last year, the same.
