00:00What a matchup tonight I mean this
00:03is this is the highlight of this
00:04weekend across baseball and it's
00:06the highlight pitching matchup I
00:07think to this point of the whole
00:08year yeah Paul Skeen's it's been
00:11magnificent the rookie of the year
00:12last year and then on the other
00:13side with Yamamoto it is fastball
00:16immaculate precision accuracy
00:19Yamamoto with his national league
00:20leading 093 ERA takes the field
00:24last Friday in Texas tied a career
00:26high with 10 strikeouts didn't
00:27walk anybody in that game seven
00:29scoreless innings O'Neal Cruz who
00:32has homered in back-to-back games
00:34he's hit leadoff home runs in three
00:36of his last seven and a leadoff walk
00:39so immediately you've got to pay
00:40attention to Cruz who's not been
00:42caught trying to steal in more than
00:43a year 31 consecutive successful
00:46steal attempts Brian Reynolds has
00:48more hits than any outfielder since
00:50his debut in 2019 there goes Cruz
00:54he is safe 42 in a row for O'Neal
00:59Cruz yeah really nice job getting the
01:01hand in on the back side of second
01:03base fly the left center field Pajes and
01:06Conforto coming together it's
01:08Conforto and there's the first out
01:10there's some things in baseball that
01:11just look right and Andrew McCutcheon in a
01:13Pirates uniform is one of them
01:15swing and a miss two out of the league now
01:18two for 18 off of him with that
01:21strikeout Valdez said they got from
01:23Boston this offseason averages is 218 on
01:26the ground and through base hit for
01:28Valdez Cruz is in this score and
01:32Manuel Valdez knocks in the run with two
01:34outs and two strikes Pirates lead one to
01:37nothing first earned run against Yamamoto
01:39and 22 innings skeins coming off seven
01:42innings against the Guardians his last
01:44time just two runs two and two with a
01:46287 this season it's amazing and it's a
01:49testament to how well he's pitched how
01:51dominant he's been in a team with very
01:52little offense well the Dodgers saw skeins a
01:55couple times last season Ohtani took him
01:57deep in the matchup of otherworldly
02:00the talents the ballpark will hold it
02:06skeins wins round one Mookie Betts
02:09coming off a three hit performance on
02:11Wednesday in Chicago after what he
02:13said was a really good day of work in
02:15the cage golf the center field for
02:16Cruz Freddie Freeman with the bases
02:20empty and two out another three two he
02:23struck him out let him have it 99
02:26schemes a one two three first seven
02:30catch of this at bat against Frazier
02:32and he walked in seven walks all year
02:34coming in three walks already today
02:36there's Isaiah Kiner-Falefa who the
02:38Pirates acquired at the deadline last
02:39year from Toronto and he's got a base
02:42hit to left center field that is a
02:43snapshot of who Isaiah Kiner-Falefa
02:46is line drive hitter Henry Davis here
02:48was the first pick of the draft in
02:502021 bounces this ball down to third a
02:53juggle from Muncie gets the out there
02:54across the diamond and offline back to
02:56the top of the order and here's O'Neal
02:58Cruz and finished him off with the
03:00curveball got the three walks but he's
03:03got three K's now as well bounce back
03:06to Yamamoto and he's out of this
03:08second and he jammed Andy Pajas a guy
03:11that saw him pretty well last year was
03:13two for two and took him deep shoots a
03:15fly ball to right field Reynolds has
03:17been busy and on the run for a lot of
03:19the day not going to get to this ball
03:21it's fair and it's a double and Andy
03:23makes a mistake and get caught off a
03:29second and he's going to head to
03:31second and he makes a mistake and
03:32get caught off the second and he's
03:34going to head to second and he's
03:35still alive until now and he makes a
03:40mistake and get caught off the second
03:53tight running scoring position two
03:55gone here in the third and Mookie
03:57bats fly to center field his first
03:59time right side Frazier gets the final
04:04out so the Dodgers strand Ohtani at
04:08second has not been the same Yamamoto
04:11so far tonight already a career high
04:12four walks but just one run against
04:15it but then three straight trips to
04:17the postseason for the Mariners in 22
04:19the Orioles in 23 and the Royals last
04:21year kicks and throws a one two and a
04:24curve to get kind of for left waving
04:26and missing one two three inning on
04:28ten pitches restoring that pitch count a
04:30little bit Freddie Freeman struck out
04:32his first time one of the three for
04:34skiing so far there's a hit down the
04:37line for Freeman makes the turn and
04:40heads for second with the lead off at
04:42least double he's going to end up at
04:45third as that ball gets by Reynolds
04:47Dodgers in business in the fourth
04:50probably going to be a double with an
04:51air either way it's a runner in
04:53third time run 90 feet away and
04:55nobody out Hernandez said that his
04:57first time hit to Hayes and Freeman
05:02has to hold one out but still in
05:05Harrell Tommy Edmonds at the plate
05:07struck out his first time and a
05:08fastball outside comes back to strike
05:11him out sweeper down and in and
05:13Edmonds strikes out a second time
05:15tonight against skates just making
05:17swing schemes trying to get out of it
05:19Dodgers now over seven with men on
05:21base today right guy coming up here
05:23though Will Smith who is 11 for 15
05:26with runners in scoring position this
05:28year some up magic from Paul skeins
05:35gets out of the jam and keeps the
05:37pirates in the league Henry Davis
05:39leading off with O'Neal Cruz on
05:40deck down the line but Muncie had
05:44him played that way on a wild throw
05:47allows Davis to reach there it is
05:49getting that dugout not a place where
05:51Freddie could pick it or get the tag
05:53and Henry Davis will get second base
05:55as that ball gets out of play top of
05:57the order and O'Neal Cruz walking
05:59a strikeout that's a nice job right
06:01there hard hit to right here comes
06:05Davis he's coming in O'Neal Cruz
06:08knocks him in to nothing pirates
06:11that ball right there was hit so
06:13hard 117 was the exit below so
06:16first and third two gone and the
06:18hitters Hayes walked his first
06:20time bounce into a double play his
06:21second time up the middle and
06:23throw key Brian Hayes drives in
06:27Cruz Pirates winning Yamamoto and
06:30the Dodgers three to nothing Yamamoto
06:32had given up four runs his first
06:34five starts Michael Conforto starts
06:37the fifth for the Dodgers and he has
06:38five strikeouts and he strikes out
06:42Muncie back-to-back strikeouts for
06:44Paul skeins six K's for skeins who
06:48now goes to work against potheads
06:49fought off down the line and a fair
06:52ball and he continues to do it against
06:55skeins and 44 is four for four
06:58against Paul skeins so two out
07:01chance for Ohtani who is 0 for two
07:03today and one for his last 14 skeins
07:06wins again striking out Shohei Ohtani
07:09and the Dodgers still scoreless against
07:11Paul skeins with skeins 88 pitches 89th
07:15is a 1-0 and it's smacked on the line
07:18to center field hangs up for Cruz
07:20skeins his pitch seven innings twice
07:22this year he's gone over a hundred
07:24pitches twice this year
07:26underneath it
07:30and the second out is an offense
07:32FAM has the second out to lose five
07:34hits for the Dodgers tonight think
07:36about this skeins has never allowed
07:38more than six hits in a game eight
07:41strikeouts tonight for Paul skeins
07:44blanking the Dodgers over six innings
07:47here in L.A. not so fast says Paul
07:50skeins at one hundred and three
07:51pitches he heads back out there for
07:53the seventh inning with Will Smith
07:55coming up oh nine strikeouts for
07:58schemes what a night and he
08:02finishes off his night for good
08:04measure here this ninth K into
08:06the seventh he went did not
08:08disappoint so the Dodgers have
08:10six hits three of those coming
08:11from Paz who has a perfect night
08:13goal and now they need the big
08:15boys to get going Tony one out of
08:17his last 15.
08:25Cruz has it and here's Ben's
08:30bounce to Triolo try to start it
08:34and they get the lead out well
08:36three of the six sets are from
08:37Paz two of them are from Freddie
08:39Freeman who's got a double and a
08:40single on the line in the foul
08:44ground fan makes the final out and
08:48Dennis Santana puts up a zero in
08:50the eighth to the bottom of the
08:51ninth we go last chance here and
08:53it's coming against David Bednar
08:56to Oscar Hernandez who's one for
08:58three leads off pop fly right
09:01field was a fastball and hit
09:03softly for Reynolds there's a walk
09:08and a spark perhaps when they're
09:11trying to avoid their second three
09:13game losing streak he struck him
09:16out up and in with the fastball
09:18Bednar strikes out Will Smith
09:20Dodgers down to their last hour
09:22he struck him out Bednar throws
09:2598 by him the Pirates shut out the
09:29Dodgers in Los Angeles for the
09:31first time in 15 years what an
09:33impressive win right there
09:34obviously starting with Paul
09:36Steins second shutout loss of the
09:38season this one a little less
09:39embarrassing than the 16-0 against
09:41the Cubs and they're gonna have to
09:42turn it around quickly
