01:43Since then, she's become an Oscar-nominated star of films
01:46like The Lost Daughter, Wild Rose and Wicked Little Letters.

01:53It is...
01:54Jesse Buckley, everybody!
01:56CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
01:58And we have the two very funny stars of the comedy reboot of Anaconda.
02:14One made us laugh in comedy classic Anchorman
02:17and kicked Tiny Butt as Marvel superhero Ant-Man.
02:21The other is the star of hits like Jumanji
02:23and this year's blockbuster smash The Minecraft Movie.
02:26It's our good friends Paul Rudd and Jack Black!
02:29CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:33Come on!
02:34Come on!
02:35There you go!
02:37You did it!
02:38You did it!
02:39Hello!
02:40Happy to see you!
02:41Welcome, Michael!
02:42Welcome back!
02:43Welcome back!
02:44Welcome back!
02:45That!
02:46That is gorgeous!
02:47Get that thing out of here!
02:49Here's a hug you twice!
02:51This is a second hug!
02:52We're hugging!
02:53It's all nice!
02:54You're waving!
02:55Oh, okay!
02:56Oh, oh, oh, oh!
02:57No, no, no, no!
02:58Oh, oh, oh!
02:59Mind the champagne!
03:00OK, there we go!
03:01Yeah, yeah, nice, nice, nice!
03:03I just want to hug you.
03:04CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:06Merry Christmas, everybody!
03:08LAUGHTER
03:09Sorry.
03:10I just hugged.
03:11Merry Christmas!
03:12There you go!
03:14Yeah, that's what it is.
03:15Are you OK there?
03:16I just had a panic that my fly was down.
03:18LAUGHTER
03:19I should have checked back there.
03:20The tie covers it.
03:21LAUGHTER
03:22You look me down.
03:24No one's noticed.
03:25It's a warm welcome back to Paul, Jack and Jessie.
03:27A first-time welcome to Michelle DeSward.
03:28I'm so glad you're here!
03:29CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
03:31We first met on RuPaul's Drag Race UK.
03:33You were a judge, and the fandom, the people who love that show, loved you.
03:48Did you feel all the kind of Drag Race love?
03:50I did.
03:51I did.
03:52I absolutely loved it.
03:53Also, I was like, I have trained my whole life for this panel.
03:57Do you know what I mean?
03:58I was like, yes, fashion, comedy and judging.
04:01LAUGHTER
04:02It's your wheelhouse.
04:03Exactly.
04:04And now, are you going to be OK on the couch tonight because...
04:07Michelle has feelings for someone on the couch.
04:11Oh...
04:12LAUGHTER
04:18Who might that be, Michelle?
04:20LAUGHTER
04:21Jessie.
04:22LAUGHTER
04:23If you could just move out of the way, Jack.
04:25LAUGHTER
04:27APPLAUSE
04:29Oh, my God.
04:30When?
04:31OK.
04:32I am a massive fan, and, like, early on...
04:33Sorry, guys.
04:34LAUGHTER
04:35Tenacious D is, like, the blueprint of...
04:36Yes.
04:37If there was a score for my early 20s, it would be...
04:38It would be Tenacious D.
04:39Oh, my God.
04:42You kept me so much company.
04:43That was so sweet.
04:44Wow.
04:45Now, here's...
04:46I...
04:47I...
04:48I feel I should apologise to Paul.
04:49Because...
04:50Jesse Buckley also has a Jack Black thing.
04:51What?!
04:52LAUGHTER
04:53I get it.
04:54I have a Jack Black thing.
04:55LAUGHTER
04:56There's enough of me to go around.
04:57LAUGHTER
04:58LAUGHTER
04:59No, yours is very specific, Jesse.
05:01I, like, say to myself more often than is reasonable,
05:05tip it to the side, cello.
05:06Oh, yeah.
05:07From School of Rock.
05:08It's a base.
05:09It's a base.
05:10It's a base.
05:11Yes.
05:12It's a base.
05:13Yes.
05:14It's a base.
05:15It's a base.
05:16Yes.
05:17It's a base.
05:18Yes.
05:19It's a base.
05:20It's a base.
05:21It's a base.
05:22Yes.
05:23It's a base.
05:24It's a base.
05:25When do you get to say, tip it to the side, cello?
05:28I said unreasonably.
05:29Like, there's no reason.
05:30LAUGHTER
05:31You know, that line...
05:32But you live, like, rent-free, saying that in my head.
05:35LAUGHTER
05:36That is sweet.
05:37That line...
05:38I remember, that wasn't in the script.
05:40Uh, George Draculius, great record producer,
05:43and also, he, uh, was in charge of, like, the music on that movie.
05:48He, uh, would hang out on the set,
05:50and he was in charge of, like, the music on that movie.
05:53Uh, would hang out on the set in my trailer,
05:56and he threw that to me.
05:57He was like, you should say, on this next, uh, take,
06:00you should say, uh, you play cello?
06:02Tip it to the side.
06:03Cello, it's a base.
06:04And I just took it straight from the end of the movie.
06:07And it is some of people's favourite line.
06:10I'll tell George.
06:11George, if you're watching, thank you.
06:13Great job.
06:14Great writing.
06:15I feel like we should stop saying lovely things
06:17about Jack Black now.
06:18It's been too much.
06:19One more for Michelle.
06:20Well, no, I did just watch you take one sip of Campari,
06:23then take a tea chaser, and then drink some water.
06:26I mean, I don't take compliments.
06:28It's amazing.
06:29You have a tea and a Negroni.
06:31A white tea, a Negroni, and a regular water.
06:34Nice.
06:35With a little bit of morphine drip.
06:37All the food groups.
06:39Well, Jack Reddy, let's go.
06:43We'll start with our first big movie tonight.
06:46Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in Anaconda.
06:49It opens in cinemas on Boxing Day.
06:51Check this out.
06:53This is Anaconda.
06:55And we no longer have a snake for our snake movie.
07:00We have to go out in the jungle.
07:02And find another one.
07:13What is that?
07:14Oh.
07:15My.
07:20We're in the middle of the jungle,
07:21and we are being hunted.
07:25Now we die.
07:26My name is Anaconda.
07:28It's OK.
07:29You're safe.
07:30I'm here.
07:31Holy shit.
07:36Scary.
07:37Scary.
07:39It is great.
07:40It's scary.
07:41Jump of stairs.
07:42Big laughs.
07:43It's everything you want.
07:44How did this...
07:45It's kind of amazing that no one's done this before,
07:47an Anaconda reboot.
07:49How did this come about?
07:50How involved were either of you?
07:51Well, there was...
07:53The director of this movie made a movie,
07:55before this called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,
07:58which was with Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal,
08:00and both Jack and I were huge fans of that movie.
08:03And when this script kind of showed up,
08:06it seemed to have similar DNA to that one,
08:09in that it was just kind of a clever meta-comedy,
08:11a take on a reboot.
08:14So I think I kind of worked on it a little bit with them,
08:17developing it.
08:18I was interested in doing it.
08:21I was very excited that they would want to work with me,
08:24and then I heard that Jack was maybe going to be involved.
08:27And then it was...
08:28It was just the most exciting day.
08:30And then we got on the phone and talked about it.
08:32And it's basically...
08:33It's two friends kind of coming together later in life.
08:37Yeah.
08:38Yeah.
08:39Four friends.
08:40Four, you're right.
08:41Steve Zahn and Tandway Newton.
08:43And, yeah, we're these four dumbbells who love each other
08:46and had great experiences in high school making little dumb films.
08:50And we shared a love of the original Anaconda.
08:53And we decided to go remake this movie out in the jungle.
08:56And then we get swept up in an actual Anaconda nightmare.
09:00But it's really funny and crazy.
09:03I never read anything like it.
09:04And I was mainly excited to work with this guy right here
09:07because he makes me laugh so hard until I cry.
09:09And I thought, this is it.
09:11And I told my manager, I was like,
09:13I'll do it as long as Paul Rudd is, in fact, attached.
09:17Because sometimes they'll pull a fast one.
09:19They'll pull a switcheroo.
09:20Tennessee switcheroo.
09:21Yeah, no.
09:22Paul Rudd's in it.
09:23And then you say, okay, I signed the thing.
09:24And then they say, oh, Paul couldn't do it.
09:26He had to do it.
09:27No!
09:28So now it's supposed to be set in South America,
09:31but you filmed in Australia, was it?
09:33Yeah.
09:34Yeah.
09:35Apparently that wasn't our decision.
09:38But we had a great experience in Australia,
09:40pretending to be in Brazil, in the rainforest.
09:43Yeah.
09:45The Gold Coast.
09:46Nice.
09:47And you were in real swamps.
09:50Yeah.
09:51The first day of shooting, for me, was a night shoot.
09:57And we were in a swamp.
09:59Selton Melo and I were in a swamp up to our chest.
10:02And it was terrifying.
10:03And they were trying to put us at ease.
10:05And they said, we had guys come out,
10:07and they cleared out the swamp yesterday.
10:10Like, you can clear out a swamp.
10:12You were in there and I said,
10:13you know there's things swimming around.
10:15And even some of the crew said,
10:17I can't believe you're going in there.
10:18Which is not...
10:19I'm gonna jump in here.
10:20There was someone on the crew
10:21who had a creepy crawly stuck to their leg.
10:24And you saved them.
10:25I didn't...
10:26It was a beetle.
10:28And you knew what to do.
10:29You were like...
10:30You saved their life.
10:34You're a life saver, dude.
10:36I mean...
10:37It was a beetle with a horn on it.
10:42It was a beetle that had a horn on it.
10:44Yes.
10:45Only found in the Australian hat back.
10:47But then...
10:48This is weird.
10:49What's your nuts off if you're not careful?
10:51No.
10:52It was a nut-biting beetle.
10:54Because, Michelle, you know,
10:56before you got into comedy,
10:57we'll talk about this later,
10:58you were a model.
11:00Yeah.
11:01And didn't you have a beetle thing?
11:02Yeah.
11:03Yeah.
11:04Because they would just get you to do,
11:05like, random things in modelling
11:06where they were just sort of like,
11:07you're lucky to be here.
11:08We're going to do this shoot now.
11:10And this is editorial.
11:11It's high fashion.
11:12So we're going to put these beetles on your face.
11:14Stay very still and look gorgeous.
11:19Try and look nice.
11:20But if you've got a beetle on your face,
11:21you're like...
11:24You're like, smile.
11:25You're like...
11:26Yeah.
11:27There's a lot of stuff like that.
11:28And then I did another shoot
11:29where they wanted me to sit on,
11:31like, a bit of wood.
11:33And as I sat down on it,
11:35it was in Texas,
11:36and I was like,
11:37there's all these ants crawling on me.
11:38But obviously, from England,
11:39I didn't realise there's ants that bite.
11:41Do you know what I mean?
11:42Yeah.
11:43Like, what's the worst that can happen to you
11:44in this country?
11:45Pigeon shits on you or something.
11:48So I sat there and I was like,
11:49they're burning.
11:50They're burning.
11:51They're like, oh, it's a fire ants nest.
11:52And I was like,
11:53I should probably get up.
11:54And they were like,
11:55it's the last shot.
11:56If you could just stay there.
11:57And look gorgeous.
11:58And they were like, yeah!
12:00Yeah, fun times.
12:01Fun times.
12:02I don't know why you gave it up.
12:04Jesse Buckley,
12:05you grew up in the Irish countryside,
12:06so are you good with animals?
12:08Um,
12:09I feel like,
12:11out of respect,
12:12they,
12:13you know,
12:14I should leave them alone.
12:15OK.
12:16Not because I would do anything to them,
12:18but they might do something to me,
12:19because they're animals.
12:20That is true.
12:21Well observed.
12:25But have you ever,
12:26have you had a bad experience or something?
12:27Well actually,
12:28my mom grew up in a bull farm.
12:30What?
12:31Yeah.
12:32And she had like,
12:33Can I just say,
12:34that seems problematic.
12:37Why?
12:38Well,
12:39you need more than bulls on your bulls.
12:40Oh,
12:41but there are no pedigree bulls.
12:42They,
12:43I don't know.
12:44It's like a gay cow bar,
12:45or something.
12:46I love it, Chris.
12:47Only bulls?
12:49I don't,
12:50I don't know.
12:51I'm like...
12:55Are they just bred bulls?
12:56Yeah,
12:57they were like,
12:58prize bulls,
12:59so they'd bring them to shows,
13:00and kind of,
13:01wash them,
13:02and brush their hair,
13:03and show them around.
13:05He's a gay cow bar.
13:06Yeah.
13:07But,
13:09I remember once,
13:11my grandfather,
13:12brought me out into the fields,
13:14and put me on his tractor,
13:15and,
13:16I had never really been around a load of bulls.
13:19Like,
13:20a mass.
13:21Good.
13:22Good.
13:23And,
13:24he went to open the gate,
13:25and close it,
13:26and there was a load of hay,
13:27on the back of the tractor.
13:28And,
13:29he,
13:30all of a sudden,
13:31this like,
13:32it felt like,
13:33a hundred bulls,
13:34were running towards me.
13:36And,
13:37since that moment,
13:38I just think,
13:39you know,
13:40out of respect,
13:41I don't need to wrangle,
13:43anything.
13:44Leave them alone.
13:45Really.
13:46I leave them alone.
13:47Wise.
13:48Wise.
13:49And,
13:50Paul Rudd,
13:51what is the connection to Ireland,
13:52that you love Ireland so much?
13:53I just think it's the greatest place.
13:54I just love Ireland.
13:55I first went there,
13:56on my own,
13:57I loved Irish music,
13:58and I was just very drawn to Ireland.
13:59Okay.
14:00And then,
14:01my father spent a lot of time in Ireland,
14:02because he was a Titanic expert,
14:03and he used to take groups of people,
14:05throughout Ireland,
14:06to Belfast,
14:07to Harlan Wolfe,
14:08where the ship was built,
14:09and he'd go down to Cove,
14:10which was the last port of call.
14:11Yeah.
14:12Yeah, so,
14:13we spent a lot of time in Ireland.
14:14Yeah.
14:15Was that his job?
14:16Yeah.
14:17Yeah.
14:18Wow.
14:19That's very niche.
14:20Yeah, he,
14:21it is.
14:22It really is.
14:23He,
14:24he used to work with airline,
14:25with the airlines,
14:26and,
14:27it was a big history buff.
14:28He loved history.
14:29But he was a real Titanic enthusiast,
14:31and that was,
14:32he started,
14:33kind of,
14:34giving these Titanic historical tours,
14:35to other people,
14:36who were,
14:37as interested in Titanic,
14:38as he was.
14:39And,
14:40uh,
14:41late in his life,
14:42that was what he did.
14:43Yeah.
14:44Wow.
14:45And is,
14:46is Rod an Irish name?
14:47I think there's,
14:48are there Rod sausages?
14:49Is that rig a male,
14:50Jessie Buckley?
14:51I'll bet you are.
14:59I can ask,
15:00was your granddad,
15:01was he Irish?
15:02They were English.
15:03Everyone's British.
15:04Oh, that's a burn!
15:09Did you live in America then?
15:10Yeah,
15:11I was born in America,
15:12but both my parents are from London.
15:13And so,
15:14I grew up in America,
15:15but,
15:16we actually spread my dad's ashes,
15:18in Ireland as well.
15:19Wow.
15:20Which is an interesting thing,
15:21to try and get your dad's ashes,
15:22through TSA.
15:25Did you say what it was?
15:26Or did you pretend it was something else?
15:27I did. No, I did.
15:28I, uh,
15:29we put it,
15:30like a duffel bag,
15:31and put it on the belt,
15:32going to fly on the airline.
15:34I thought,
15:35oh, I probably should have,
15:36seen this.
15:37And they wanted to,
15:38examine it,
15:39and check it out.
15:40They said, what's in the bag?
15:41I said, it's my dad.
15:42In Ireland,
15:43they would have loved that.
15:44Oh, yeah.
15:45You know you're on the right flight home,
15:46if you're going home for a funeral,
15:47so.
15:48Yeah.
15:49You're welcome.
15:50That's why it's the best.
15:51That's why it's the best.
15:52That's why it's the best.
15:53And now,
15:54there's a tradition,
15:55I feel, Jack,
15:56every time you do a movie,
15:57somehow,
15:58it inspires you,
15:59musically.
16:00Have you come up with an Anaconda song?
16:02I have, actually.
16:03Do you want to hear it?
16:04No.
16:05No.
16:15Quiet on the set.
16:16Anaconda,
16:20the most beautiful creature in the wild.
16:23Anaconda,
16:24you're the most popular with boys and girls.
16:28You bite and you swallow and you take it down.
16:31You are the scariest snake in town.
16:34Big as a bus and a hearty too.
16:37I made up this song just now.
16:40Beautiful.
16:42Beautiful.
16:43I lied.
16:44I lied.
16:45I didn't have a song.
16:47That was EBD extras.
16:49EBD extras.
16:50Did you know that I was making it up as we went along?
16:53Because I lied, I did not have a song.
16:55Oh.
16:56Oh, it's very good.
16:57Anaconda,
17:01the scary snake in the line.
17:03I think it's a hit though.
17:04Yeah.
17:05It's pretty good.
17:06That's how all songs are written.
17:08At first, you don't have a song.
17:10And then, did you see the Beatles documentary?
17:13When you watch Paul McCartney and Sir Paul come up with
17:16Get Back right in front of your eyes.
17:18That's what you just saw.
17:21Beautiful work.
17:22Beautiful work.
17:23A reminder, you can see Anaconda in cinemas
17:25from Boxing Day.
17:26Amazing.
17:31Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley.
17:33Jessie Buckley gives an extraordinary performance
17:35in Hamnet.
17:36It is in seminars from the 9th of January.
17:39And Hamnet is this incredibly beloved novel
17:42by Maggie O'Farrell.
17:43When they approached you, were you familiar with the book?
17:46No, no.
17:47I met Chloe Zhao first and then they sent me the book.
17:50Yeah.
17:51And for people who haven't read the book, and lots of people
17:53have, tell us about Hamnet and kind of its relation to
17:57Shakespeare and sort of, you know, why it's so special.
17:59I guess it's a peek behind the curtain of who the family man,
18:03Shakespeare, William Shakespeare might have been.
18:06And, um, and where Hamlet might have kind of been born from,
18:11which was, Shakespeare actually did have a son called Hamnet,
18:14who died of the plague.
18:16I had no idea about that.
18:18I thought it was about a Danish prince.
18:20Yeah.
18:21Um, and it's about love and loss and motherhood and, uh, art and the
18:29need of kind of storytelling to hold the parts of us that we can't
18:32hold by ourselves.
18:33Um, that's it really.
18:35And it is, it's such a beautiful woman.
18:37You are God, you're good in it.
18:38And, uh, Paul Mesco, we should say, plays, uh, William Shakespeare.
18:41And the Hamlet, Hamlet thing, those names, am I right?
18:46They were interchangeable at the time.
18:47Yeah.
18:48Yeah.
18:49And the same, and you're Anne Hathaway, but you're Agnes.
18:52Well, she was kind of written out of history as, you know,
18:56I think her father called her Agnes, but she was known as Anne Hathaway
19:01and as the woman that kind of pulled Shakespeare back,
19:05which is a, you know, not the truth.
19:08Well, we've got a clip.
19:09This is you as Agnes with Paul as, uh, William Shakespeare.
19:12And, uh, the children, because you have three children,
19:15they've prepared you a surprise.
19:18One step.
19:20Come to your right step.
19:21Step.
19:22Step.
19:23One more.
19:24One more.
19:33When shall we three meet again?
19:36In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
19:39When early birds' time, when the battle's lost and won!
19:43That will be right.
19:45The best!
19:46The best!
19:47Where's the place?
19:48The place!
19:49There to meet with Agnes!
19:51I come, Green Mountain.
19:52Had it cool.
19:54And I!
19:55Oh
20:18Beautiful sweet scenes like that have this kind of added poignancy because as a viewer, you know that
20:23something
20:25Really tragic is on the way. Yeah, I actually had no idea. They're going to shoot that scene
20:30They were so giddy all day because they've been rehearsing it for like the week and except
20:38Bodhi who plays Susanna the my daughter in the blue really didn't
20:46Like she's like my emo teenager in that I'm kind of proud that she's like, oh my god
20:53um
20:55But it was such a gorgeous shoot and those kids are incredible and Paul is promising
21:05And we shouldn't say though if you go to see this film be prepared it will put you through the emotional
21:12ringer
21:13there's a
21:14Long section at the end where your Agnes and how he's watching Hamlet this this play that will be and there's a moment right at the end
21:21uh that I
21:23You and and Chloe the director you came up with together. Do you know what I'm talking about the the hands? Yeah
21:30Yeah, I mean the end we didn't know what to do
21:34It's quite scary because it was like the whole end of shooting the whole film and we'd had this amazing journey
21:40We're like God we've got to like land the plane now
21:42How do you like land the plane after this and go to the globe which is epic in just its name?
21:49and
21:50There was a moment at the I mean there was these incredible extras 400 extras
21:56and then there was a moment where I was standing in the middle of the of our recreated globe and there was all these
22:02incredible faces around me and
22:04And I sent chloe max Richter's on the nature of daylight and from that piece of music
22:13This ending came where they all
22:17Reach 400 people behind me reach their hands to try and touch
22:21The play and I guess touch the things that they've lost in their own life. Yeah in some way
22:27That's a really beautiful moment and this wonderful things happen to you. You're now a mom
22:32He became a mom after the film congratulations
22:40Does that kind of when you watch the film now as a mom does it kind of make it even more kind of emotionally upsetting for you?
22:48Or is it kind of the same?
22:53I watched it first when I was eight months pregnant and I was not okay
22:59There's nothing this you know embarrassing to cry at your own film, but I was pregnant, so I'm
23:06But it felt it was you know, it's about a lot. It's got a lot of birth and death and motherhood and children and
23:14I wanted to be a mom for a long time and
23:18I got pregnant like a week after I wrapped
23:20Wrapped this film so it was pretty yeah, it's beautiful. Well, it's lovely that those things are all kind of entwined now
23:27Yeah, talking of Hamlet Shakespeare Paul Rudd you've played Hamlet, haven't you I?
23:33Did in a scene. Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I did it. You were really good in it. Yeah
23:39I cried when I did it
23:41I did a I did I did I did do a
23:45Production of it, but it was very posh wasn't it it was pretty posh. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it was
23:50It wasn't that posh. It wasn't directed by somebody very famous
23:56Are you talking about Sir Ben Kingsley? That's exactly I'm talking about yes
24:02Yeah
24:04Another one that I did a I was going to school. I did a production of Hamlet. I was working on a scene Ben King Sir Ben Kingsley came to do it
24:12Don't forget the sir. Nope. So Ben Kingsley came to do a
24:16like a master class and
24:19He directed it. We worked on it. Yeah, it was just for an afternoon really and
24:24And when I was starting my career
24:27I had a manager
24:29Bit of a Broadway Danny Rose type manager who said we need to create a CV
24:34For you and he was and I had no credits and he said well, what did you do in school? And I was in this I did a thing with Hamlet
24:42Then Sir Ben Kingsley came in and directed it and so he put down
24:47I played Hamlet in a production
24:50Directed by Sir Ben Kingsley
24:58Very funny about it
25:00But those that seemed to kind of hang around and my biggest fear in life was that sir
25:07Maybe not my biggest fear in life
25:09but my biggest fear was that he
25:11He might
25:12somehow see my CV
25:14What?
25:15Ooh
25:16It never went away
25:18Until now
25:19Yeah
25:20He watches every week
25:22He watches every week
25:24Now I wouldn't have thought Jack Black had never done Shakespeare but you have done Shakespeare
25:27Yes, I was a theatre major at UCLA theatre department and we did a production of
25:35Much Ado About Nothing
25:36That's the one
25:37And I played a character
25:38I can't remember what it was called
25:40But I remember that I was very very good in the play
25:46I like when you refer to your own character as it
25:48It
25:49It's such a very fogging memory
25:52But I remember the director
25:53I can't remember his name either
25:54He was like
25:55Was it Sir Ben Kingsley?
25:57It might have been
25:59I think it was Sir John Geelgood actually
26:00And he said Jack
26:02When you do this part
26:04Just look straight ahead and don't move a muscle
26:07Let all the emotions come through your eyes
26:10And say the part plainly
26:13And if you do this Jack
26:14And hold on to these lessons throughout your life
26:17It will serve you well in a career that spans far and wide
26:22And I obviously did not take that to heart
26:25Because I spent my career overacting
26:28And not staying still
26:30And speaking the lines blatantly
26:31But it was a great experience
26:34I'm sure it was, yes
26:36Very good
26:39Beautiful
26:39Michelle
26:41Michelle
26:43You do acting now
26:44You have eating things
26:45Would you do Shakespeare?
26:46Have you done Shakespeare?
26:46Nah
26:47I'm sorry
26:48Nah
26:49And this is what
26:50I feel like
26:51I don't have the range for that kindness
26:54You've got one accent with me
26:55And it's this
26:56You know what I mean?
26:57Even this
26:58When you're talking about Hamlet
26:59And he was Anne Hathaway
27:00I was like
27:01Is this
27:01That's an actor?
27:02That's an actor
27:03I kept on thinking that too
27:04Thank you
27:05People were kind of pissed off
27:07That I was playing it
27:08And not Anne Hathaway
27:09Is Anne Hathaway named
27:12Do I sound fake?
27:13Wait
27:14No
27:14She must have been named after the
27:15Well obviously
27:16After the Hollywood actors
27:17Yes
27:18Right
27:19Yeah
27:19Um
27:20Yeah, no
27:21None of that for me
27:22No period dramas here
27:23I think it'd
27:25There'd definitely be some questions
27:26I'll come in
27:27I'm like
27:28No, you could crush some
27:28Do you reckon?
27:29Yeah
27:30You and I
27:30Maybe this is our next movie
27:32Yes
27:33What would it be?
27:34Romeo and Juliet
27:35Juliet!
27:36Am I too old to play Romeo?
27:37No
27:38No!
27:39I can't wait
27:40I think we would be
27:41Perfect
27:42Delilah
27:43I feel so awkward in the middle of this
27:47I have since the beginning
27:49I asked if they wanted to swap
27:51They said no
27:52I'm bringing you back to Hamlet
27:54I bring you back to Hamlet
27:55Because I've got to say
27:56Congratulations
27:57You've got amazing reviews
27:58And Golden Globe nominated next month
28:00Good girl
28:01Woo!
28:02Thank you
28:03Yeah
28:04Fantastic!
28:05100
28:06100
28:07So listen
28:08Good luck with that
28:10And all the other awards
28:11That I'm sure are in your future
28:13Hamlet is in cinemas from the 9th of January everybody
28:16Woo!
28:17Very good
28:18Woo!
28:19Now here's the thing
28:23Being an actor on stage is you know difficult
28:26And all those things
28:27But at Michelle de Swart
28:29You've tackled possibly the toughest stage of all
28:31The catwalk
28:32Oh
28:33Oh yes
28:34No
28:35No
28:36Here's the thing
28:37But no you walked for like really big designers and labels
28:40Tell us some of the people you did
28:42Yeah
28:43Not well I'll say that
28:44But yes I did it
28:45I did it
28:46Walked for
28:48Missoni
28:49Gucci
28:50Versace
28:51D&G
28:53Or Dolce & Gabbana
28:54Yeah
28:55Which is the real deal
28:56The real deal
28:57Yeah yeah yeah yeah
28:58And then gravity came along and I've pivoted and now I'm doing stand-up
29:02Was it the fire ants that took you off as you come out with?
29:06You say gravity
29:08Gucci 2002
29:10You're walking
29:11And this is quite a famous thing
29:13Before we get into it
29:14We should say you're fine about this
29:16This isn't triggering or anything
29:17No
29:18Well 2002
29:19Can you imagine if I still triggered now
29:20Imagine it
29:21How dare you
29:23It feels like yesterday
29:24Yeah no I'm fine
29:26So
29:27Should
29:28Should we talk about it before we see the clip or see the clip?
29:31You know what?
29:32It's worth chatting about it first
29:34Okay
29:36Okay
29:37No maybe
29:38Set it up
29:39No go on go on
29:40Should we just see it?
29:41No talk about it
29:42Okay
29:43So
29:44I'll say this
29:45I got I was pulling pints in a pub
29:47All right
29:48I've got scouted
29:49They sent me to Milan
29:51Everyone was like
29:52She's the new model of the moment
29:53We're all gonna book her
29:54But no one had asked me if I could walk in hills
29:56Everyone just
29:57Now you've been knighted with the word model
30:01Then you're that
30:02You know what I mean?
30:03But I had a walk like a bookie
30:04You just like got a winning or something
30:06I was like
30:07Yeah
30:08Here you go
30:09I had a wide gate
30:11It's what I will say
30:13And so I go to Milan
30:15I book all of these shows
30:16And everyone's like
30:17Yeah you're a model
30:18Now I'm like
30:19Yeah proper
30:20And
30:21At the time Tom Ford was designing for Gucci
30:25Oh yeah
30:26And yeah proper Jack
30:27Yeah
30:28And I'm standing backstage
30:30And I'm in these hills
30:31And I was like
30:32This
30:33I'm gonna fuck this
30:34Proper
30:35I just knew
30:36I was like
30:37There's no way I can walk in these
30:38And it was on this shag pile carpet
30:39And Tom Ford was there
30:40And I was like
30:41He went
30:42How you doing?
30:43I went
30:44Not good
30:45Anyway
30:46Don't worry
30:47You're just gonna stand there
30:48And everyone's gonna die
30:49And I was like
30:50Right onto the runway
30:51Now most runways
30:52Are like
30:53Really short
30:54But because it's Gucci
30:55It's like the longest runway ever
30:56And I start
30:57I start walking
30:58And I just thought
30:59Imagine if you fell
31:01And with that
31:03Stacked it
31:04Shall we
31:05Shall we watch it now?
31:06Let's watch it
31:07Let's watch it
31:08So
31:09Here's the shag pile carpet
31:10The beautiful
31:11Here we go
31:12Here comes
31:13Here comes
31:14Michelle de Swart
31:15Oh
31:16Oh
31:17She's okay
31:18She's okay
31:19Oh
31:20No
31:21No
31:22Come on
31:23You can do this
31:24Oh
31:25Oh
31:26Oh
31:27Shoes off
31:28Shoes off
31:29You're a woman
31:30Oh
31:31Oh
31:32Yeah
31:33I love this
31:34I love this
31:35Oh
31:36Still working it
31:37Still working it
31:38Still working it
31:39Yes
31:40You are beautiful
31:41Thank you
31:42But also
31:43It says so much about the fashion world
31:45You stack it
31:47And one man just kind of went
31:49No one tried to help you
31:52No no
31:53But where this thing is
31:54I've been doing stand-up for over a decade now
31:56Hands down
31:57The funniest thing I've ever done
31:59That is rude
32:01Like
32:02That is
32:03That's me at my comedy best
32:04So listen
32:05The comedy's going great
32:06You're on your first major tour
32:08It's called The Afters
32:09You've already done a bunch of it
32:11And it kicks off again in
32:12Is it March?
32:13March
32:14Okay
32:15The Afters
32:16Why is it called The Afters by the way?
32:17Well as mentioned
32:18I was a model
32:19Used to live in New York
32:20So I'm an ex-party girl
32:21And I think much like an Afters
32:23It is me chatting at ya
32:24For an hour
32:25And hopefully funny and entertaining
32:28Oh my god
32:29And hopefully your sister
32:31Well because she doesn't sound like a great audience member
32:33Your sister
32:34Oh my
32:35Yeah
32:36Alright so thank god now I do bigger rooms
32:38But when I first started
32:39Like upstairs in pubs and stuff like that
32:41Very glamorous
32:42And I was doing one gig
32:44And my sister came to support me
32:46And um
32:47Every time
32:48Back then I used to do a lot of stories
32:49About my mum and stuff
32:50And every time
32:51I'd just be getting to the punchline
32:52I'd be like
32:53You know like my mum
32:54And my sister would shout out the punchline
32:56And just like
32:57I was just like
32:58What are you doing?
32:59Because she knew the story
33:00Do you know what I mean?
33:01She was like oh yeah yeah yeah
33:02Like that
33:03This is pure sabotage
33:05And then she would get a massive laugh
33:07And then they would look at me
33:08And I was like
33:09No that's it
33:10I don't
33:11I don't have anything after this
33:15Fun times
33:16And you talk about your mum
33:18Your mum got you into jobs
33:20Now did she get you
33:21She got you a cleaning job
33:22Yes
33:23Yes
33:24That she
33:25That was her job already?
33:26Yes
33:27Merry Christmas mum
33:28So
33:29Yeah
33:30I've done a lot of
33:31I've done a lot of
33:32Different jobs
33:33Before I started modelling
33:34But my first job was a cleaner
33:36In an office building
33:37And my mum was like
33:38Right
33:39I'm going to do this day
33:40You do the other days
33:41Right
33:42And my mum
33:43She's a changed woman now
33:44But my mum really got a kick out of nicking
33:46And
33:47We were in this corporate
33:50In this like corporate office building
33:52And my mum would send me in
33:53I think
33:54I was pretty young
33:55Like 13, 14 at the time
33:56This was my first job
33:57And she'd be like
33:58Right
33:59Alright
34:00So when you do the second floor
34:01If you go into the kitchen
34:02They've got a really good dinner set
34:03Now I've got the cups
34:04Right
34:05And you've got to get the plates
34:07OK
34:08That is your job
34:09You've got to nick the plates
34:10And I was just like
34:11I was such a
34:12You know like
34:13Anxious kid
34:14I'd like be freaking out
34:15It was like I was doing a heist
34:16In the loop
34:17You know what I mean
34:18I've got to nick these plates
34:19My mum
34:20So we can have the full set
34:21Which is weird
34:22Because she doesn't cook
34:23So it's sort of like
34:24What are they here for?
34:25Yeah
34:26Why don't you just have them on display?
34:27Well no
34:28No
34:29I don't know
34:30You know
34:31But we did get the full set
34:32Well done
34:33Yes
34:34That's very bad
34:35And
34:36Talking of early job of things
34:39Jack
34:40You got into acting really early
34:42I did
34:43I was a child actor
34:44It's true
34:45Yeah
34:46I'm a little defensive
34:47I know
34:48Yeah no
34:49All actors get a bad rap
34:50But I survived
34:52And I'm fine
34:53Nothing wrong with me
34:55Was your first job
34:56The commercial for Pitfall?
34:58Yes
34:59That was my first booking
35:00But I want to clarify
35:02I didn't have the kind of parents
35:04That were like
35:05Get out there and make money for us
35:07Ya kid
35:08Bring back home the bacon for us
35:10We want to go
35:11Put it on the slots
35:13No
35:14I was a lot
35:16I drove that car
35:18I was a real ham
35:20I loved putting on a show from a very early age
35:23And I wanted to go on auditions
35:25I wanted to get out there and be
35:26I wanted to be on TV
35:28So the kids at school could see me
35:30And my step father David Katz
35:33Actually drove me around town
35:35To go on the auditions
35:36And I went
35:37I remember that audition
35:38Like it was yesterday
35:39I went in there
35:40And I did the lines
35:41And they said
35:42Could you do it again Jack?
35:43And this time do it really cocksure
35:45Really overconfident
35:47And I was like
35:48I think I can do that
35:49And in my mind
35:50I was like
35:51They fell into my trap
35:52My main move is overconfident guy
35:55So I did it again
35:56And I just poured on all the sauce
35:59And I was
36:00Just last night
36:01I was lost in the jungle
36:02With Pitfall Harry
36:03Surrounded by giant scorpions
36:04And cobra rattlers
36:05And man-eating crocodiles
36:07I still remember all the lines
36:09We've got the commercial
36:10We've got the commercial
36:11Are you going to show it?
36:12We've got the commercial
36:13And you do remember your lines
36:14I do
36:15And you know
36:16Often when you watch these things
36:17You kind of think
36:18Oh that you know
36:19The person is unrecognisable
36:21This is just
36:22Jack Black Young
36:23I mean it's just
36:24It's just
36:25It's extraordinary
36:27By the way
36:28Do check out the state of the art
36:30Computer graphics
36:31In Pitfall the game
36:33Here we go
36:34Just last night
36:35I was lost in the jungle
36:36With Pitfall Harry
36:37Surrounded by giant scorpions
36:39And man-eating crocodiles
36:40If you haven't met Pitfall Harry
36:42You're missing the year's
36:43Most incredible video game adventure
36:45Pitfall for the Atari 2600
36:46And Intellivision
36:47Pitfall
36:48Designed by David Crane
36:49For Activision
36:50So good
36:51Yeah
36:52Yeah
36:53Yeah
36:54It was also the best game
36:57Yeah
36:58Pitfall was the best game
36:59You know what I realized
37:00While we were watching that
37:01Just now
37:02Is that I've been doing jungle themed
37:03Since I was a child
37:04I know
37:05There's something weird about me
37:06And the jungle
37:07Because we got this movie
37:08Also Jumanji
37:09Don't forget jungle themed
37:10And that's all I can
37:11Oh King Kong
37:12I was in King Kong
37:13Jungle themed
37:14Yeah
37:15What's going on here
37:16At Tropic Thunder
37:17Tropic Thunder
37:18Have you been to the jungle?
37:19Have you been to the jungle?
37:20Have you been to the jungle?
37:21Have you been to the jungle?
37:22Have you been to the jungle?
37:23Have you been to the jungle?
37:24Have you been to the jungle?
37:25No I went on a safari once
37:26You did? That's the jungle?
37:27It was and it was one of the most terrifying things I've ever done
37:28Yes it doesn't sound like you'd like that Jessie
37:29Well I actually typed in solo traveller adventures into the internet
37:32And found myself on the salue reserve
37:34Amongst the maasai tribe
37:35When I was about 22
37:36And I
37:37Is that in Africa? The salue?
37:38Is that in Kenya?
37:39In Tanzania
37:40Oh wow
37:41And I remember I got into my tent in the first night
37:43I did not sleep for a week
37:44Every sound I was like
37:45Oh my God
37:46Oh my God
37:47Oh my God
37:48Oh my God
37:49Oh my God
37:50Oh my God
37:51Oh my God
37:52Oh my God
37:53Oh my God
37:54Oh my God
37:55Oh my God
37:57Oh my God
37:58Oh my God
37:59Oh my God
38:00Oh my God
38:01Oh my God
38:02Oh my God
38:03Oh my God
38:04Oh my God
38:05Oh my God
38:06And they give you like a pre-chat to be like
38:08Do not open your tent
38:09There is hippos right there
38:11They will eat you
38:12Yeah
38:13The mama has just had her baby
38:14She's really hungry
38:15And you're like
38:16Okay
38:17And the only thing I could find
38:19I like
38:20I got really drunk the second night
38:22Cause I was like
38:23I'm just gonna have to like
38:24Basically pass out
38:25To get to sleep
38:26But the only thing that I could find solace in
38:28Was they had like a crate
38:30And there was like the tiniest lock on this crate
38:33crate that i found to lock the bottom of the tent like that was gonna like solve the hippo will

45:05that came out yeah a few months ago okay brilliant and uh that song here's the thing recording that
45:11track in particular apparently was kind of challenging yeah i i've actually like tried to put
45:16this song on my last three albums and it's a very emotional song and um it's kind of about grief and
45:24losing someone um but every time i came to record it i would sing the verse is fine and then as soon
45:31as soon as i get to the chorus i would sing it in an australian accent so it'd be the kid next door
45:38keeps asking me where you've gone and i tell him i tell him you've gone home when i close my eyes
45:48and i was okay with that i played it to my wife and she said you you cannot put this song out
45:54it sounds like a joke song but i think it's that thing where it was so emotional i didn't even want to
46:01like confront it so i was subconsciously trying to avoid and sort of making voices i don't know funny
