00:00Hello there and welcome to your final one show of the year live on BBC One and I play with Clara
00:12Ampho. Oh we certainly are live are we not Alex Jones. Tonight we've got a show packed full of
00:16treats guaranteed to get you in the festive movie. We've got live music, a Christmas repair shop
00:21exclusive with Dame Helen Mirren and of course a sofa full of stars brightening up our Christmas
00:26TV schedules. Yes Bradley Walsh will be telling us all about celebrity gladiators as four famous
00:33faces prepare for an epic Christmas Day showdown plus we'll find out what's in store for the
00:38celebrity special of Blankety Blank. It's coming and joining Bradley is the fabulous Lucy Punch
00:45who's bringing together comedy legends Jennifer Saunders and Dame Joanna Lumley for the first
00:50time since their AB fab movie in the new Christmas special of the brilliant Amanda Land. I can't
00:56for that plus we'll have a festive live performance from Olly Murs he'll be singing his latest single
01:01Christmas stars tonight with the ordinary boys and later they'll be telling us all about working
01:07with 90s icon Mr. Blobby. The one and only we're looking forward to that and as mentioned the repair
01:13shop opens its doors this boxing day to very special guests including Dame Helen Mirren who's
01:17hoping to restore a World War II cello and later will be exclusively revealing the magical moment it's
01:23given a brand new lease of life and in true repair shop style it really is an emotional one
01:28very nice and if all that wasn't enough we will be looking back at some of our favourite one show
01:33moments from the last 12 months that's lovely isn't it I mean we don't want to blow our own trumpet
01:38but it is nice you might cry a little bit yeah you will like that so lots coming up but first
01:42let's get the party started shall we shall we do it I mean it's already started because we've got
01:46Olly Murs Bradley Walsh and Lucy Punch
01:48Anyone seen Bradley Bradley? Oh there you are Bradley!
01:56You were blending in a little bit there yeah I was going to wear that but you've worn it so I'm gutted
02:00He looks like the head teacher from Grange Hill what do you think?
02:02You know I think it's a really nice festive outfit
02:05It's a great look thanks thanks Al
02:07I think it's really nice I love him dearly I've known him since he was that big honestly I love him dearly I really really do
02:14Well here we go I mean we're heading into Christmas busy weekend people doing last minute shopping all of that
02:20Where are you Lucy because I'm about to explode are you alright?
02:23I've done my gifts I've done all of that but I've got all my family coming over tomorrow
02:29for a Christmas party and I have nothing and I have to get up very early I tried this afternoon
02:36with my three-year-old and who had a meltdown and I just it was what was I thinking you've got to go on your own to the supermarket
02:42I've got to go I'm getting up early tomorrow and getting all the food God's food yeah snacks yes just snacks I'm not doing a meal
02:49Chris yeah well however organised you are this Christmas you can relax knowing that the BBC has your festive viewing covered with gladiators
02:57making a return for a celebrity special on Christmas Day now we've already chatted about it didn't we with Joe Wicks
03:03he'll be joined by Olympic boxer Nicola Adams podcaster Sam Thompson and I'm a celeb star Vogue Williams
03:10so the thing is then Brad I mean these are all really fit they're going to give the gladiators a run for their money aren't they?
03:16it was fantastic I kid you not last Christmas we had you know it's comic Rob Beckett Joel Dominic and
03:22guys you know and uh and Lumenchin and that but this year they've they've really gone for it they've upped their game
03:28Nicola Adams and Joe Wicks and all they've really gone for it Sam Thompson's a bundle of energy and Vogue Williams
03:34you're not going to believe it when you watch it it's nail-biting the the eliminators and the travel
03:38I promise you it's nail-biting mesmeric it really is fantastic
03:42is it really as tough as it looked like is it really do they go a little bit easier on the celebrities though
03:47Oli I won't give him his nickname I've called him a nickname for years and years I won't give it to you because it will stick
03:51but let me tell you Smurf the thing is right
03:54if um if Oli Smurf if you the thing is Smurf is this right you everyone says I can do that I'm kid you not mate
04:02it is absolutely it is so tough because you've got to get all the way through them up the cargo net
04:08downloads it and then you've got they changed the balance beam this year so it's made it more difficult
04:12like a zigzag a zigzag and then you've got the you should come on it who would you take on it sounds
04:16like I should do it you've got to do it you really send it to me no no you've got to do it because
04:21you're very fit okay so what would you do who would you go against I think me and righty Mark
04:25right that's it Mark oh that's all right next Christmas ladies and gentlemen here on BBC One don't
04:32forget that'll be coming out pretty soon coming to the screen near you next gravy how to make it
04:37I'll tell you what I'll tell you what as you mentioned Nicola is incredible they're all
04:43incredible Nicola really is proofing that she's not just got skills in the ring so take a look at
04:47this so Nicola's turn to take on the collision bridge or just take it apart how easy was that
04:54two points scored straight away and she's having a chat with the gladiators a friendly greeting
05:00it nearly came back to bite and knocked off her feet but a good recovery from Nicola who is
05:06absolutely loving it up there you told no lies when it comes to the challenges at this point
05:13what is the one that the contestants are most worried about I think sometimes well you've you
05:19came up yes did you come up now the pugil sticks people go oh they I tell you what they weigh a ton
05:24and they're so heavy around the bonce with one of them you know about it and it knocks them for six
05:28you look there you are this is you get yeah me and get and they said oh we're gonna put you on the
05:33floor yeah and I wanted to go on you know those big on the podiums but I would have knocked get off
05:38yeah it's too much you can you get clubbered around the edit to last knock you know they're really
05:44heavy they are they are and you feel like you've been hit by a boxer it's true it's absolutely true
05:48intense I'm not doing it next year too late it's too late signed up now Bradley next year the one
05:56show are going behind the scenes of the brand new series of gladiators tell us about some of the new
06:00challenges because we had noticed a bit of a change to the eliminator yes it is uh uh so you've got to
06:06do it you've got to run the eliminator backwards it's very tricky um it's very very hard no it's the
06:14it's the balance beam the balance beam used to go up and along that was your lot now it goes up
06:18does run it in goes like that along like that goes like that like that goes like that and then it's
06:24like that and uh and it's hard and you after you've done all the cargo net and everything you get on the
06:29balance beam you lose your balance then you're off got to go to the start and that gives people
06:33the chance to catch up oh goodness me it's great fun lucy's like she can't wait to do it one year either
06:38maybe not now Bradley lucy lives in la she'd be walking down sunset boulevard
06:44just soaking it all up yeah this is hard yeah yeah uh now Bradley no one can ever accuse you of
06:49being a part-timer because not only are you giving us gladiators you've also got the blankety
06:53blank celebrity christmas special you've got daniel mays on there yeah great charlotte church the
06:57iconic stephanie beecham was on it yeah what was stephanie beecham like yeah great we've had we've
07:02been very lucky to have some real lovely uh turns on the show joe lumley dame joe came on the show
07:08with us as well and um stephanie was brilliant uh lovely bride blessed was i've been on we just
07:14really really have and and i don't do any mozzies on it and she's on tomorrow as well with obviously
07:18the final of strictly and and the great thing about doing um blanks is i don't have to do any of
07:24the heavy lifting you just i stand there laughing my head off because some of the answers are just
07:28ludicrous ludicrous ludicrous like mozzies yeah yeah yes just put what did she put sausage or something
07:34yeah so it's it's a wonderful show to work on and i love it i really do and i've been very fortunate
07:39because many many years ago a lot of people don't know this but i was actually les dawson's studio
07:44warm-up man when he hosted blankety blank i was the studio i was a kid walking at les les bless him
07:49and he was a lovely lovely man and les is spitting into my dad actually and um and i was his warm-up
07:54man it's a full circle for you yeah yeah beautiful yeah it really is great yeah it's fantastic it's
07:59a lovely thing truly truly well we're very excited for everyone to tune into that so don't forget you
08:03can watch blankety blank tomorrow 6 20 and gladiators christmas day 3 35 both on bbc one and iplayer
08:11thank you and later that evening we are very excited because lucy will be bringing us a christmas
08:16special of amanda land the spin-off series of course the bafta winning comedy motherland now it follows amanda
08:21who is navigating life as a single mom and this christmas she is heading to our aunt jones for
08:26a day to remember we'll have the perfect family christmas at our jones wow god she's still got
08:35that is it plastic didn't i just gift you that yes and could you just lean out because the day stains
08:44i'm vegan i really think amanda deserves to know what do i deserve to know
08:48other people's christmas as a mental oh lucy this is everything we wanted i mean a brilliant cast
08:58and the idea really is that amanda is trying to relive some of her christmas childhood memories
09:04yes yes she is and of course she fails it's a disaster um her cab doesn't turn up so her
09:13neighbor mal has to escort her to the party and uh her best friend frenemy sort of misses her flight
09:22she joins and um felicity is in a foul mood all day and then a huge family secret is revealed and um
09:33chaos ensues we love the chaos now of course dame joanna lumley plays your mom and now jennifer saunders
09:40turns up as your fabulous aunt and jennifer really threw herself into the role didn't she she did we
09:45need to talk about that bath bomb scene without giving away too much yes i get re-gift her a gift um and
09:53there's a a bunch of it's a classic yes and but it was we were laughing so much because she had to eat
10:00those bath bombs she ate so many they weren't bath bombs but they were revolting nevertheless i think
10:06they were like candy something with some gooey stuff she was such a good sport and laughing along and then
10:13it would cut and she looked queasy and but ready to do it again um so yeah with that was a very but you
10:19know to have jennifer saunders and joanna lumley together what was it like for you and the rest
10:25of the cast then working with the two of them it was amazing they're so warm and they're so generous
10:29you'd think it would be intimidating um and they're just it was wonderful and the and the special i think
10:39everyone is going to love because everyone is but wants to see them both together it's a different
10:44dynamic they're playing sisters they're different characters um but it's hilarious and warm-hearted
10:52as well for christmas genius i'm very much like bradley here you had a beautiful full circle moment
10:59because one of your first acting roles was on the show let them eat cake that's right jennifer
11:04saunders and dawn french back in 99. yes and i had i got that job i screamed with delight
11:12find it and i dropped out of university to valid yes i was like fine yeah and um and i'd grown up of
11:19course i was a huge fan of french and saunders and had watched had all the vhs uh copies of their
11:26sketches and their shows and had studied them and particularly jennifer who has just been always an
11:33inspiration and a hero to me she's so um she can be really restrained and subtle and then do something
11:40broad and big and just um she's magnificent so getting to work with her again was really amazing
11:49and this time i was able to hold a conversation because back i think i was about 21 and i was
11:53neat completely terrified of them both yeah come back into your life yeah and the thing is you know in
12:00motherland and amanda land we watch and the reason we love it is because obviously you see situations and
12:05you think that happened to me this morning yes i mean you're a mum of two and any of the scenarios
12:10that have popped up you know do you think oh yeah i know this one i've been here before constantly i
12:16mean just today and the superman sainsbury's with my my child having a meltdown um but uh at the
12:23school gates i live i was uh telling bradley i live in la and um the what's that like then at the
12:30school gates there's i would say the difference is about 50 of the mothers are amandas so it's a very
12:37yes that's high state it is it's type a glossy
12:42pilates that's a lot of stress oh yes and kind of lovely um so yeah it's and uh so that's that's very
13:00funny yeah don't sit on the fence what are you bradley what kind of international incident now in
13:05america i heard her on the television she talked about american women i don't like i don't like it
13:11the way she talks about american moms it's not right don't wish that okay sorry go on sorry go
13:17what kind of uh school gates dad were you badly oh what's that supposed to mean i don't know what
13:22you mean at the school gates did you like a bit of a chat with the other parents were you no i used
13:26to pull i used to pull up pick up barney my lad he's 28 now my lad pick up barney and he'd come
13:31out with someone else's shoes on and his shirt hanging out and stuff like that and his cap on back the
13:35front it's just they were scruff bags when they come out the lads it's terrific it was lovely it was
13:40lovely we had a van we started to go and pick him up in a van well and on the van the door wouldn't
13:44open and the but only the window opened and it was a red old ex-post office fan so we used to sing
13:49postman packs keep make sure he could go to school if we sing postman patty go to school postman pat
13:53and i in front of everyone i had to climb out the window of the driver's seat to get him out of the
13:58fan well i swear to god alan saw's old fan and ollie you've got all that to look forward to yeah
14:03it sounds great it sounds good it's coming well you can watch the christmas special of amanda land
14:08on christmas day at quarter past nine on bbc one and iplayer and there's a new series coming next year
14:14yes yes still to come we're going to be following dame helen mirren as she calls on the repair shop to help
14:20restore a treasured possession and we'll be chatting of girls to ollie or smurf plus pressure

17:53you're such a big star to me you're everything i want to be
18:10you're such a big star to me
18:14two million seven hundred and four thousand five hundred and eighty five
18:19this is why we love the one
18:29it's lovely to look back so many incredible moments and more still to come tonight
18:41because we have a festive performance from ollie and the ordinary boys and joining us now is the lead
18:46singer preston
18:50hi how you doing preston
18:52delighted to have you here we need to talk about you and ollie's history we worked together
18:55on the banger that is heart skips a beat thank you very much
18:58great shout out to rizzle kicks and now you're back together for this new single christmas tonight
19:01so how did this musical romance come to be between you two uh well heart skips a beat i was
19:07originally going to be i was going to do a preston solo record and i bottled it yeah do you know that no no
19:12so so i'd written it for a preston solo record which i was going to do never did it didn't want
19:17to be a songwriter and then here what 15 years later you vicariously enjoying my solo career that
19:23i could have had if i was 10 years younger and much better looking but um yeah so that so then
19:29ollie did it and we wrote a lot of stuff together and then he just said let's do a christmas song
19:34yeah and run this town was actually on the new album he's up it's been a demo for 15 years sam
19:39had played it to me and i loved it i said to him i did strictly a few weeks back actually a bit
19:43longer than that now and i said i just think this is a christmas song so we've rewrote the whole song
19:47and that's what we're going to sing tonight right yeah and you've got this wicked video to go with
19:51it it's got a very 90s 90s feel uh what was the inspiration for taking it back to that decade
19:56i just think 80s the christmas was better in the 80s right just was in fact the future heads have just
20:02released a song called christmas was better in the 80s and like 100 agree with them and mr blubby just
20:07reminds me of christmas we thought bring blubby back yeah was it chaotic it was it was exactly
20:13what we expected was it yeah and we just we had fun with the video like sort of taking it back to
20:17like the 80s and 90s vibes and we just really hs and like we did it yeah we just it's just what we
20:23grew up watching as kids and i've got mr blobby on actually probably couldn't be here tonight so
20:27i'm wearing blobby socks my wife bought these for me because uh she's been doing an advent calendar for
20:31the whole of this month and uh i get socks every day and they're mr blobby socks thanks darling for
20:37the socks well ollie's album knees up is out now and in just a few minutes ollie and preston will
20:43be performing their single christmas starts tonight outside there we go and christmas has come early
20:48for fans of the repair shop as we are about to have that sneak peek of their boxing day special
20:52which is packed with incredible stories from stars including rob bryden our fave uh best-selling
20:57author julia donaldson too and tonight we've got an exclusive look at the moment an acting legend
21:02calls on the team for some help academy award winner dame helen mill she has a little known story of
21:13resilience from wartime germany to put center stage oh my goodness what an iconic place to find myself
21:25welcome to the bar thank you how can we help well got a big challenge for you interesting well i work
21:32with a residential home called denville hall that specializes in people from the performing arts
21:38one of the supporters of denville hall was a man called martin landau and he was a theater producer
21:44but martin had the most incredible story martin was on a kinder transport at the age of 14
21:5015 children were put on these trains by their parents to escape the nazis and they came to england
21:57and the one thing he wanted to bring with him was his cello but before he got on the train
22:02the nazis who were you know bullying everyone broke the cello cruelly deliberately monstrously just
22:10broken oh and when uh martin died he left it to denville hall and that is what i would love you to
22:18restore so what's the plan if we're able to get it repaired well we're really hoping that this
22:23christmas it will be heard again it will be singing to the residents of denville hall that sounds perfect
22:31the vandalized cello has been delivered it's a task for stringed instrument restorer becky horton
22:39this is such a gorgeous instrument i feel so sad that it's been brutalized in this fashion there's cracks
22:46all over the place this is a particularly nasty one in the ribs the most obvious area of damage is
22:52the fact that the neck is out of the body of the instrument this is never good the first thing i'm
22:57going to have to do though is remove the front so i can see what's going on inside
23:05i can just feel this seam starting to give now so far so good
23:09now she has access to the interior of the cello becky can begin repairing the many cracks in its body
23:22i'm going to steam bend this lovely thin bit of maple
23:27i'm going to have to throw a whole load of clamps at this crack and this stud to make sure it all adheres
23:32perfectly reattaching the neck of the cello is a demanding process becky's drafting in will
23:44to play more than just second fiddle we've got one chance to get this perfect okay up for it
23:49yeah right okay all right okay clamp ready yep stop right okay we're not done yet no no right no i've
24:00got to check don't oh god i'm shaking you're doing really well oh i'm checking the angle of the neck
24:07here i would like that a bit lower unnip it and just move it slightly short me yeah just slightly
24:14yeah it's like yeah yeah yeah yeah now now nip it down there yeah yeah yeah okay tension
24:26yes yes yes yes yes better yes i'm happy
24:34with the more stressful part of the cello repair behind her becky's work is nearly done
24:40dame helen mirren hopes it can be the centerpiece of christmas celebrations
24:46hello hi welcome back thank you was it a challenge it was a challenge yes yes it has tested me well
24:56are you ready to take a look i am i'm so excited i'm so excited to see it
25:02hello hello wondrous absolutely wondrous becky that's fantastic many many many congratulations
25:19well done i'm just so pleased oh how incredible and you can see the lovely moment that cello is
25:37played to the residents of denville hall care home on the repair shop at christmas 7 30 on boxing day
25:42on bbc one and iplayer and the repair shop is on the lookout for more cherished festive
25:47items that are in need of restoration so if that's you head over to the website for more information
