Transcript
00:00Returning to our top story now, the death of Australian rock legend, Chrissie Amplard
00:08and our entertainment editor Richard Wilkins is back with us in studio. Dickie, this is really sad news.
00:13What more do we know?
00:14Well, we know that she's been battling this breast cancer for some time now.
00:18In fact, Chrissie posted on her Facebook page a little while back.
00:22She said, unfortunately the last 18 months have been a real challenge for me having breast cancer and MS.
00:27And all the new places that will take you.
00:30You become sadly a patient in a world of waiting rooms, waiting sometimes hours for a result or an appointment.
00:37End of quote.
00:38There was some hope that the breast cancer was in remission but it moved on and as we've learnt today has taken her life.
00:45Yeah, and only 53. She had a rough time. She also battled MS. Tell us about that.
00:50Multiple sclerosis, yeah.
00:51In 2007, she actually invited me to interview her and told us what was going on with her.
01:00Performed and throwing myself around and probably took its toll on my body.
01:06But they say that that is not the reason.
01:10What was your first reaction when you found out?
01:12Oh, I was very angry. I was terrified.
01:17The show must go on, huh?
01:18Oh yes, and that's the most important thing to me. You know, there's an audience and there's songs to be sung.
01:24And I've got a great team around me.
01:26Yeah, there sure was an audience and some great hits they had as well.
01:29And plenty of tributes coming through this afternoon.
01:31That was just after she'd been playing the role of Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz.
01:35She did the original production with Todd McKinney and then ten years later played opposite Hugh Jackman.
01:39She was fantastic in that too. Just absolutely perfect.
01:43Yeah, look, plenty of people are saying nice things about Chrissy today as they should.
01:48Jimmy Barnes has tweeted,
01:49RIP, my dear friend Chrissy, love you and will miss you.
01:53And Eddie Perfect, Chrissy Amflit was properly rock.
01:56She won't be forgotten by anyone who values danger, courage and chaos.
02:00What an icon.
02:02The two lads summing up her life and career there pretty accurately, I would think.
02:08Just a great talent and a no-nonsense gal.
02:11Yeah, wasn't she great?
02:12And weren't those great songs?
02:13I think we'll be seeing plenty more of those tributes in the next 24 hours or so, Dickie.
02:17Thank you very much for that.
02:19Appreciate it.
