00:00What if we tried to put the word medical in front of a harmful drug to give the impression that the harmful drug was actually not harmful, it was medicine?
00:08That's exactly what advocates have been doing for the last four or five decades, by putting the word medical in front of marijuana, a drug much more harmful today than it ever has been.
00:17Medical marijuana is a red herring to give marijuana a good name and a stepping stone to full marijuana and other drug legalization.
00:31A brand new study at the Journal of the American Medical Association, one of the most esteemed medical journals in the country, said evidence from randomized clinical trials does not support the use of cannabis or cannabinoids for most conditions for which it is promoted, such as acute pain and insomnia.
00:50As for safety, they said one in three people that say that they're taking it for medical purposes actually are addicted to marijuana.
00:58This is further evidence of other things we already know.
01:02We just had new research come out finding that daily marijuana users had a 40% increased risk of stroke, 25% increased heart attacks, four times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, five times more likely to have a psychosis or especially schizophrenia, which is really incredible.
01:18There's no other drug that has that connection.
01:20It's much worse than alcohol when it comes to things like psychosis and schizophrenia.
01:24I mean, it's unbelievable how marijuana has been touted as medicine, even though it's failed every single FDA clinical trial for medicine.
01:33But it's gotten around that by having people vote for whether something's medicine or not.
01:39And last time I checked, popular vote was not the right way to figure out what a medicine is.
01:45It gives kids the impression that marijuana is more safe now than it was before, whereas it's actually more dangerous now than it was before.
01:53So it's going in the opposite direction of the evidence and science.
01:57We do not need to commercialize marijuana.
01:59It doesn't mean we want to throw people in prison for marijuana.
02:02But this idea that marijuana should be used as a regular medicine, like other medicines approved by our regulatory scientific bodies, is completely ridiculous.
02:12We don't have codeine or morphine dispensaries.
02:15We have a pharmacist and a doctor who you have a relationship with to tell you whether or not you should have codeine or morphine.
02:21We should apply that exact same standard to marijuana.
02:24But for now, there is zero proof that marijuana is medicine.
