00:30U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a politically charged speech as he addressed the nation on primetime television on Wednesday,
00:39claiming victories during his first year in office despite growing disapproval about the economy.
00:45Public polling shows most U.S. adults are frustrated with his handling of the economy,
00:50as inflation picked up after his tariffs raised prices and hiring slowed.
00:54In his speech, Trump insisted his policies would bring down costs and strengthen the job market.
01:00This historic trend will continue.
01:02Already, I've secured a record-breaking $18 trillion of investment into the United States,
01:09which means jobs, wage increases, growth, factory openings, and far greater national security.
01:15Much of this success has been accomplished by tariffs.
01:21My favorite word, tariffs, which for many decades have been used successfully by other countries against us, but not anymore.
01:29Trump blamed challenges his country is facing on Democrats and his predecessor Joe Biden.
01:35One year ago, our country was dead.
01:37We were absolutely dead.
01:39Our country was ready to fail, totally failed.
01:42Now, we're the hottest country anywhere in the world.
01:47And that's said by every single leader that I've spoken to over the last five months.
01:532026 will be a test for Trump's leadership as the nation heads into the midterm elections
01:58that will decide control of the House and the Senate.
02:01The U.S. military said four people were killed after it attacked another boat accused of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
02:15Trump has justified the attacks as a necessary escalation to combat drug trafficking
02:20and asserted the U.S. is engaged in an armed conflict with drug cartels.
02:24Tensions have risen with Venezuela as Trump expressed willingness to conduct strikes on land
02:30and ordered a blockade this week on sanctioned oil vessels coming into and out of Venezuela.
02:36Trump vowed to continue the military buildup until the country gave the U.S. oil, land and assets,
02:42though it was not clear why he felt the U.S. had a claim.
02:45Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had, they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching.
02:54But they're not going to do that. We want it back.
02:57They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there.
02:59As you know, they threw our companies out and we want it back.
03:03The Trump administration is facing increasing scrutiny from congressional Democrats over the boat strike campaign.
03:09House Republicans rejected Democratic-backed resolutions on Wednesday
03:13that would have forced the government to seek authorization from Congress before continuing its attacks.
03:20Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth defended the campaign as a successful counter-narcotic effort,
03:28but did not inform Congress about its ultimate goals when it comes to Venezuela.
03:32After more than half a century, the Oscars will depart ABC and will begin streaming on YouTube.
03:432028 will be the last year that the U.S. TV channel will broadcast the Academy Awards, making it the end of an era.
03:52Several media are calling it a seismic shift,
03:55but top representatives of the Academy said the shift of the show to YouTube
03:59will make it more accessible to a broader worldwide audience.
04:03They say the move will be beneficial to both Academy members as well as the film community.
04:09The Academy Awards will stream for free worldwide on YouTube.
04:13It will be available with audio tracks in several languages, in addition to closed captioning.
04:19YouTube will not only stream the award show itself, but will also include red carpet coverage,
04:24stream the Governor's Awards and the Oscar nominations announcement.
04:29Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Moscow will expand its gains in Ukraine by force
04:37if Kyiv and its Western allies reject the Kremlin's demands.
04:42In a speech to top military officers, Putin dismissed an amended U.S.-led peace plan.
04:47The Russian President slammed Europe and chastised European leaders over their stance towards ending the war in Ukraine.
04:53He also blamed the West for starting the war and called European leaders swine
05:16that were hoping to profit from a potential Russian collapse.
05:19Putin also claimed that 92% of Russia's nuclear arsenal is modernized and unmatched by any other power.
05:44He also announced the Oreshnik missile will enter service this month, claiming it cannot be intercepted.
05:54The United Kingdom issued a license to allow the funds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club
06:03to be transferred to humanitarian causes in Ukraine.
06:06Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich sold Chelsea in 2022 under pressure from the British government.
06:12The funds from the sale have since then been frozen.
06:16UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer is now allowing him to use the money, but only to help Ukraine.
06:23Under the new license, proceeds must be directed to humanitarian causes in Ukraine,
06:28but future gains may be spent more broadly on victims of conflicts worldwide.
06:34The UK sanctioned Abramovich in a crackdown on Russian oligarchs after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022,
06:42which had triggered the rushed sale of the English Premier League Football Club.
06:47The UK government has now promised to establish a foundation to disperse the funds,
06:52headed by the former head of UNICEF UK.
06:58This week, the European Union is facing two major decisions that could shape its global image.
07:06First, it must decide how it can keep Ukraine economically afloat and able to withstand Russian aggression.
07:12Secondly, it must choose whether to seal a free trade deal with the South American Mercosur countries.
07:19European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the upcoming summit talks as pivotal
07:24for Europe's security and independence and warned of the dangers of the rapidly shifting world order.
07:30Europe must be responsible for its own security.
07:35This is not longer an option.
07:38This is a must.
07:46And we know the threats that we face and we will confront them.
07:50This means we need to be ready.
07:52We have to develop and deploy new capabilities so that we can fight a modern hybrid war.
07:59Here again, we are moving mountains.
08:02After decades of underinvestment, we are turning a corner.
08:07The two crucial talking points have resulted in division within the bloc.
08:12On Ukraine, von der Leyen is in favor of using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's reparation loan.
08:18But Belgium remains unconvinced and continues to demand for the risks to be equally distributed between EU countries.
08:25And on the Mercosur trade deal, which needs the backing of the majority of member states,
08:30some countries remain undecided like Italy or have voiced their opposition like France.
08:37The European Union and United Kingdom have finalized a deal to reintegrate British students into the Erasmus Plus scheme in 2027.
08:49It takes place seven years after the UK formally left the EU, including all its institutions and bodies.
08:56The British government had been under considerable pressure from student bodies, including universities, to rejoin Erasmus Plus.
09:04Yet a history of proportionately lower take-up by British students studying in the EU made the British government reluctant.
09:12More than 100,000 people from the UK are likely to benefit from the program in 2027, according to the British government.
09:20Good morning, everyone.
09:20The deal is being held in London as a step towards greater EU-UK relations.
09:25But the recent failure to agree on UK involvement in the Safe Defense Fund has critics complaining about a piecemeal approach to Europe.
09:33EU-UKака
09:55That is what is needed to do that in the future, that is what is needed to do that.
10:08This is where in the third year, when I was placed in the class 3, I was not ready to get out of the place, but the yellow light is not coming from the Brussels.
10:17The answer is, in the end, the summit of the Balkans, the European Union, as the EU, as the president of the Czech Republic of the Czech Republic,
10:26the first time in the 13th century, neither one nor anyone else from the Czech Republic of the Czech Republic of the Czech Republic,
10:31not to be able to do it. He said that he talked about it with several European leaders and his great president of the European Union and the president of the European Commission.
10:42That's from the Euronews, Vladimir Bekic.
10:47Police in Spain have cleared an abandoned school north of Barcelona
10:53where around 400 mostly undocumented migrants were living.
10:59Many sub-Saharan migrants from countries such as Senegal and Gambia
11:03had occupied the empty building in Badalona town since 2023.
11:10Badalona's mayor, Javier Garcia Albiol, known for his anti-immigration stance,
11:15announced the eviction on social media.
11:19Most residents left ahead of Wednesday's winter operation,
11:22but lawyers warn many will now end up sleeping on the streets.
11:27Local authorities must offer access to social services,
11:31though they are not obliged to find housing for everyone.
11:35Community groups say a wider housing crisis is forcing even people with work permits into unsafe squads.
