Kobe Bryant's signed 'Grinch' sneakers tipped to fetch more than $10M at auction

A pair of Grinch-themed Nike sneakers worn and signed by late NBA legend Kobe Bryant are on display in Beverly Hills, California before heading to auction. The Nike 'Grinch' sneakers were worn by Bryant, who played his entire 20-year career for the Los Angeles Lakers, on Dec. 25, 2010 during a game against the Miami Heat. Each bright-green sneaker is signed and the pair is one-of-a-kind, according to Joopiter, Pharrell Williams’ digital auction house which is selling the bright-green sneakers. 00:00If you guys should invest in these assets, they're pushing.
00:03I tell you a few words.
00:04There are platforms, but they're pushing and we'll see other businesses.
00:09How nasty is this part, it's in Texas to be able to try and get a lot of issues.
00:17So they're probably not going to be successful.
00:21But the investment is going live on eBay live at night.
00:28Right at night.
00:28So these Kobe Sixth Grinch sneakers came about on December 25th, 2010.
00:53Kobe Bryant came on Christmas Day on the court wearing a pair of green sneakers, which were
00:57the first time in NBA history didn't match his uniform.
01:03So these sneakers have not been seen since that game.
01:07And I think what's really important to note is that game became one of the most famous
01:13kind of sneaker moments in history.
01:15And the Kobe Sixes and the Grinches in particular became one of the most prolific sneakers after
01:21that game.
01:23And Kobe Bryant only wore these sneakers once in his entire career and entire lifetime.
01:28And these are the sneakers that we're offering here on Jupiter.
01:30These sneakers came from a private collector.
01:33And again, what's amazing about these shoes is that they were worn once in history on December 25th, 2010.
01:40And now December 25th approaching 2025, almost 15 years later, is the only the second time
01:46that the world has seen these shoes.
01:48You know, they went kind of hidden for many, many, many years, never being seen.
01:54So it's really exciting for the collecting community that these shoes have come to light
01:58and that we can allow both fans and collectors have this experience with these extraordinary shoes.
02:05It's really hard to put a number on something that has had such an important part in history.
02:10You know, these shoes have transcended sports collectibles to become items of current cultural
02:16property.
02:17But, you know, what we imagine these shoes to fetch, given what we know about the market,
02:22is $10 million plus.
02:24I think one of the most interesting things about the collectible community these days is
02:29we're seeing a shift and a change.
02:31So sports collectibles has become an incredible market, but it has gone further than that.
02:36You know, we have both fans, we have people who are interested in these shoes because they were at
02:41that Lakers game or they watched that game on television, fans of Kobe.
02:45Kobe himself really transcended sports.
02:48Therefore, people who collect Kobe memorabilia aren't only sports collectibles fans.
02:53But, you know, the Mamba mentality really kind of shaped people of generations to come.
02:59But what we're really seeing is we're seeing an interest from VC funds,
03:04from people who are, you know, looking to buy these shoes as an investment,
03:08far beyond the sports collectibles collector of maybe the past.
03:12But we're seeing a rise as VC funds become more interested in teams and franchises
03:18and in the collectibles that surround them.
03:20So I think that we're really interested to see who's going to be interested in these shoes.
03:25And one step further is that Kobe has such a global presence.
03:29So across Asia, across the U.S., of course, across the Middle East,
03:34we see people who are collectors of Kobe memorabilia.
03:38When thinking about, you know, investment in these shoes, you know,
03:42currently I think these items kind of transcend just sports collectibles,
03:46but they go further as to being really important pieces of cultural property.
03:50But absolutely, you know, the idea that these shoes could sell for $10 million now,
03:54in my mind, they could sell for $100 million in a few years from now.
03:58I think we're only at the very genesis, the beginning of the sports collectibles market,
04:03and we're really excited to see where the community and the market continues to rise to.
04:29We're always excited for the most of them both.
