00:00So today at Sotheby's we have the opening of our Legends of Sport auctions.
00:29Which include Kobe Bryant's first ever jersey which is right behind me as well as Michael Jordan's first ever jersey and LeBron's jersey from the
00:372013 NBA Finals
00:59So it's really special to have the first jerseys ever from two of the greatest athletes to ever play in the NBA
01:26Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan and they're exceptionally rare, you know, you think about the first time a pro athlete walks on court
01:33Well, that's something that just happens one time
02:26Behind us we have Kobe Bryant's rookie debut jersey and preseason debut jersey
02:40So not only did he wear this in his first preseason game
02:43But he actually wore it for the first time when he stepped on court as a rookie
02:48This is a really exceptional item and we expect it to achieve in excess of ten million dollars
02:56So
03:24So what's really special about
03:26Michael's preseason debut jersey is in the early 80s
03:29You know, the Bulls were a little bit strapped for cash
03:31And so they actually recycled a previous players jersey
03:35and so you can actually see on the jersey if you look at it closely that they took the name and letters and
03:41Even the numbers of another player off the jersey and put Jordan's numbers on there
03:45And so it's kind of an amazing thing to think that the greatest player of all time
03:50Actually didn't even get his own jersey when he joined the NBA
03:56They went on to tie the series and ultimately claim their second consecutive title
04:26I
04:30Think what makes game worn objects special is that they are a very personal object to the athlete, right?
04:38You know, they might use it for an important moment in their career
04:41You think about the NBA Finals something like that
04:43In this case, they might use it for their first ever NBA game
04:46And so if you're a fan or you're passionate about the team and you know
04:50Oftentimes the name on the front is just as important as the name on the back
04:53This is a really tangible connection to the athlete the moment
05:23You
