A Christmas message from the editor of the NDL, Fiona Ferguson.
Transcript
00:00Well, 2025 is quickly coming to a close and it's certainly had its challenges.
00:04No one would say it's ended on a high note.
00:08The recent terror attack in Bondi has rocked our society to the very core.
00:13We all have a role in stamping out terror,
00:16but now is the time to wrap our arms around our family and our friends and our neighbours,
00:22make sure they're okay.
00:24Closer to home, 2025 was the year of political upheaval in the New England.
00:30With Barnaby jumping ship to One Nation,
00:33only time will tell if that gamble will pay off for him.
00:37We lost a few familiar faces this year too,
00:40including Eddie Whittam, the face of multicultural Tamworth.
00:44He will be missed, but his legacy lives on in our community
00:48as a welcoming place for those who have been displaced.
00:52We have plenty to look forward to in 2026,
00:56with a number of major projects also taking the next steps.
01:00The Tamworth Skywalk is due to be completed in 2026.
01:05The new Tamworth campus of the UNE is due to start construction.
01:09And that's just the beginning.
01:10As for the festive season,
01:13if you are heading away for the Christmas period to be with those you love,
01:17take it easy.
01:18You won't be the only one on the road.
01:21And it is, as they say, better to arrive late than not at all.
01:26I know I will be enjoying the company of my family at this time.
01:31If you know someone who is spending Christmas alone,
01:34why not drop in?
01:35On that note, from our family here at the NDL to yours,
01:40have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
